Airport noise problem is a relatively new social issue in Korea, but is gaining wide attention so serious as to seek court settlements sometimes. This paper reviews the present status of airport noise problems in Korea and the measures to counter them. A particular emphasis is given to the evaluation of the effectiveness of household noise shield program which was begun in 1994. The program has proved a reasonable success so far, providing future directions in dealing with this social issue.

Flying an aircraft is not like driving a train along a railway track. There are many factors that may affect an aircraft's course, including the wind speed and direction relative to the aircraft's intended flight path. This paper investigates noise exposed area by using INM. Especially, effect on aircraft route to minimise the number of people overflown by departing aircraft is evaluate. The result shows that track keeping scheme is effective to reduce the noise area. On the other track at 4000ft is negligible to the noise contour.

An axisymmetric supersonic jet is simulated at a Mach number of 1.5 and a Reynolds number of
$10^5$ to identify the mechanism of sound radiation from the jet. The present simulation is performed based on the high-order accuracy and high-resolution ENO(Essentially Non-Oscillatory) schemes to capture the time-dependent flow structure representing the sound source. In this simulation, optimum expansion jet is selected as a target, where the pressure at nozzle exit is equal to that of the ambient pressure, to see pure shear layer growth without effect of change in jet cross section due to expansion or shock wave generated at nozzle exit. Shock waves are generated near vortex rings, and discernible pressure waves called Mach wave are radiated in the downstream direction with an angle from the jet axis, which is characteristic of high speed jet noise. Furthermore, vortex roll-up phenomena are observed through the visualization of vorticity contours. -
Exterior noise generated by the aircraft induces a serious noise pollution near the airport. For the prediction of an exterior noise radiation of aircraft an empirical formula is employed to model the acoustic sources. It is shown that the fan/compressor noise is the most dominant part of the acoustic sources in all cases.

Integrated tools are developed for the analysis of the aerodynamic performance and aeroacoustics of helicopter rotors. Heli-NK(Helicopter Navier-Stokes & Kirchhoff) code is for hovering and heli-PA(Helicopter Panel & Acoustic analogy) for forward flight. The former showed its ability to predict the hovering efficiency and high-speed impulsive noise level. Thrust calculation, noise levels, and noise directivity patterns are investigated to confirm the availability of the latter. With some proper validation and improvements. these codes will be more useful and practical.

In this paper a simulation program is developed to abate the aircraft noise in the buildings near the airport. This indoor aircraft noise prediction computer program, which is based on the various data and measured results, is useful for the understanding the noise reduction efficiency of the existing buildings as well as for the effective noise abatement method to keep the optimum indoor level for quiet environment.

The cut-off is a unique feature associated with duct acoustics due to the presence of duct walls. Duct geometry effect on sound radiation is another issue of duct acoustics. The radiation of duct internal noise to ambient from duct open ends with various geometries is studied via numerical methods. The linearized Euler's equations in generalized curvilinear coordinates are solved by the DRP finite difference scheme. A number of accurate boundary conditions are used at boundaries for the computational domain to minimize the non-physical reflections. The far field sound pressure levels are computed by the Kirchhoff integration method. We investigate the cut off phenomana and duct geometry effects on sound radiation with numerical results.

The modes of oscillation and radiated acoustic fields of compressible flows over open cavities are investigated computationally. The compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved for two-dimensional cavities with laminar boundary layers upstream. The high-order and high-resolution numerical schemes are used for the evaluation of spatial derivatives and the time integration. Physically correct numerical boundary conditions are implemented to produce time-accurate solutions in the whole computation domain. The computational domain is large enough to directly resolve a portion of the radiated acoutic field. The results show a transition from a shear layer mode, for shorter cavities and lower Mach numbers, to a wake mode for longer cavities and higher Mach numbers. The shear layer mode is well characterized by Rossiter modes and these oscillations lead to intense upstream acoustic radiation dominated by a single frequency. The wake mode is characterized instead by a large-scale vortex shedding. Acoustic radiation is more intense, with multiple frequencies present.

Aircraft noise is one of the main causes of environmental impact. It is more serious than any other noise nuisance. It has become an increasing source of annoyance to the large number of people who live in communities near airports. This paper demonstrates the prediction of aircraft noise using Integrated Noise Model (INM) 5.1 developed by U.S. FAA and aircraft noise contour map near airports.

This paper introduces the brief guidelines on general aspects of tests and experiments with human subjects. Detailed methods for measuring whole-body vibration are reviewed for those tests and experiments and compared each other. Such comparison is found to be very useful in choosing adequate methods for human related tests and experiments. Of course, it is also expected to be very meaningful to our automotive research and industrial fields that are critical to the ride quality of their products with uncomfortable acoustic noise and vibration.

This study was performed to evaluate the whole-body vibration and occupational noise for excavator drivers. Measurement, evaluation and assessment were based on the ISO 2631 and OSHA. Average vibration level was 0.65m/
$s^2$ (z axis) for breaking work and 0.36 m/$s^2$ (z axis) for excavating work. Vibration levels during breaking work exceed the health guidance caution zone and this means that the drivers are exposed to potential health risks. Average daily noise exposure level was 86.4 dB(A) for breaking work and 84.6 dB(A) for excavating work. -
차량 개발에 있어서 승차감(Ride)과 조향성능(Handling)의 평가는 차량의 동적 성능을 판단하는 주 인자인데, 차량업계에서는 이들 평가의 대부분을 주관적인 방법에 의존하고 있다. 최근에는 주관평가의 문제점을 해소하기 위해 차량의 동적 거동을 직접 측정함으로써 평가를 객관화하려는 시도가 많이 행해지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 숭차감 평가를 위한 정량화 지수를 개발하는데 있어서 저해 요인들을 분석하고 이에 대한 해결방안을 제안함으로써 측정된 물리량을 이용하여 주관평가 결과를 대체할 수 있는 방안을 정립하고자 한다. 우선 정적, 동적 승차감에 대한 모형을 통해서 승차감 정량화의 한계와 기존의 승차감 평가지수에 대해 고찰하고, 실제 차량 시험에서 얻어진 주관 평가치와 측정 가속도간의 상관관계 정립을 통해 관계식을 수립하는 방안에 대해 서술하고자 한다. 이 과정에서 주행시 간헐적으로 들어오는 충격성 입력을 처리하는 방법도 함께 논하였다.

This paper addresses experimental results carried out to investigate the transmission of seat vibration to the head for Korean. Vertical seat vibration in the frequency range of 0.5-30 Hz was applied to a seated Korean male subject. To examine the intra-variable effects on transmissibility, five different postures and three different vibration excitation levels were considered. The applied acceleration and head accelerations of the seated subject were measured simultaneously by using a 6-axes bite-bar. Detailed experimental results of measured transmissibilities are illustrated for each posture and/or vibration excitation level. They are found to allow the identification of dynamic characteristics of Korean seated body for various real vibration environments. Furthermore, they are expected to be very useful in designing new seats for automotive and railway vehicles and in improving their vibration ride quality.

In this paper, we introduce a modified six-degrees-of-freedom parallel-link manipulator, which will be applied to the human vibration experiments. We analyze the inverse kinematics and workspace of this manipulator and comprehend the characteristics of kinematics analyzed. Additionally, solutions of forward kinematics are obtained through the iterative Newton-Raphson method known as one of the most used numerical analysis. Finally, dynamic equation of the manipulator is derived in closed form through the Newton-Euler approach, which will be used for the development of control software.

The sound insulation performance of walls and floors for air-borne and structure-borne sounds in an apartment building is an important environmental factor which should be contemplated at the intial design stage for their thorough control. Recent increasing residents' demands for quality living spaces strongly urge the development of more accurate and efficient measurement and evaluation methods for the control of air-borne and structure-borne sound insulation. However, steel-structured apartment buildings, recently emerged as new building structures in the market, have not been thoroughly examined. The present work carried out an extensive survey for steel-structured apartment buildings, in an attempt to provide useful design data, and their sound insulation performances were compared with those of R.C. apartment buildings.

A mechanical equipment room with various equipments may be the largest source of noise and vibration. Without sufficient consideration for noise and vibration control in the phase of designing, it causes some problems after completing construction or enormous cost necessary to correct the problems. Therefore, it is essential to consider the method of noise and vibration control, but the systematic guideline of noise and vibration is not provided yet. This study aims to investigate the actual condition of noise and vibration generated from mechanical equipments in apartment buildings, for providing the guideline of its control.

The study about a drainpipe of water closet was performed as reduction plan on drainage noise for water closet, which of noise in plumbing systems was being indicated the major point at issue in apartment houses. A drainpipe of water closet is divided into a sleeve, a joint elbow and a traversing pipe, through the result of experiment, for an effective noise reduction in a drainpipe a threefold joint elbow is proposed among parts. And through the experiment of performance with glasswool, the removal of glasswool should be in the economical efficiency aspect.

A series of preliminary experiments were carried out to quantify the annoyance are noisiness caused by floor impact noise. From the results of the experiments. the heavy impact source was found to be felt louder and noisier than the light impact source. Measurements of noise were also conducted by a diagnostic system based on the model(the model consists of the autocorrelators and the cross-correlation for signals arriving at two ear entrants) of the human auditory-brain system. Physical factors in the model were calculated by use of the ACF(autocorrelation function) and IACF(interaural cross correlation function) of binaural signals. From the ACF/IACF analysis, it was found that perceived loudness of floor impact noise could be represented by the factors of the ACF/IACF model.

This study aims to provide an effective method to reduce construction noise generated by breakers. To reduce the breaker's noise level, a sound encloser was developed; the sound insulation's performance was tested in the field. From the field test, the following results were obtained. The sound insertion loss was about 6.5dB(A), even though part of the sound encloser for the breaker was left unclosed. This is equal to the reduction value which can be obtained by using more expensive low noise breakers, proving that there are more effective measures for sound insulation at lower cost. The characteristic of frequency was evaluated to show an even reduction through all frequency bands, except 630Hz.

The sound absorption coefficient of glass wool (bulk density of 48 kg/
$m^3$ and 32 kg/$m^3$ ) was measured by reverberation room method as varying their cross-sectional area. The results show that the absorption is larger for smaller samples because of edge effect. The absorption coefficient with two different kinds of sources, 1/3-octave band and white noise, gives similar values. -
본 논문에서는 공조용 소음기에 대한 삽입손실 및 압력손실과 같은 음향성능 평가를 위해 필요한 제반 사항을 ISO 7235에 근거하여 소개하였다. 이를 위해 시험설비의 종류 및 구비조건, 측정방법, 측정시 유의사항 등을 기술하였고, 이로서 공조용 소음기의 보다 정확한 음향성능평가가 이루어지도록 검토 하였다.

For building acoustics, the revision and establishment of ISO JIS were carried out actively in the direction of international harmonization recently. In this consideration, the trends of the ISO and JIS were reviewed and the establishment process of KS was introduced. As a result of this consideration, it is thought to be that 'International Harmonization' should be a base for KS and the speciality of domestic characteristics should be attached to annex.

Demands on a quiet environment is increasing because of noisiness and annoyance due to the extended use of noisy electronic device. Determination of sound power levels of noise sources using sound pressure in a reverberation room is usually a relevant method for devices with comparatively large volume or unevenly distributed source position. This study aims to observe the contents of ISO 3741 and analyze its changes in the revised standard ISO 3741-1999. And also aims to assess the revised ISO 1999 its effectiveness and limitations with an actual application to measure the sound power level of a refrigerator.

This first ISO/CD 7475 is a proposed revision of ISO 7475-1984, which specifies requirements for enclosures and other safety measures used to minimize mechanical hazards produced by the rotor in the measuring station of centrifugal (rotational) balancing machines. The hazards are associated with the operation of balancing machines under a variety of rotor and balancing conditions. This standard defines different classes of protection that enclosures and other protective features have to provide and describes the limits of applicability for each class of protection. At the meeting held at AFNOR in Paris in June 1999, ISO/TC 108/SC1/WG 12 agreed to prepare a first ISO Committee Draft (CD) and circulate to the member bodies for vote and comment by 3 March 2000 since publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75% of the member bodies casting a vote. The results of the ballot on this first ISO/CD 7475 was positive so that it will be prepared as an ISO/DIS (ISO/DIS 7475) and discussed in a meeting of ISO/TC 108/SC1 at BSI, London, u.K. in March 2000. Contents of this ISO/CD 7475 with some member comments accounted is briefly described in what follows.

This paper introduces international and Korean standards related to human-related vibration. It reviews recent standards of ISO and KS and compares them. This comparison and analysis reveals that the current direction and activity in ISO is in progress and presents logical ways of updating Korean standards in the future. Finally, the current activity of upgrading Korean standards in the Korean TC 108/SC4 is introduced.

Adaptive bang-bang control algorithm has been proposed by the authors to improve peak response reduction of building structures under unexpected large earthquake. At the previous research, control performance of the proposed algorithm was experimentally confirmed by using a I-DOF test structure. As an extended research, performance tests on a multi-DOF model structure have been conducted to prove the usefulness of the adaptive bang-bang control algorithm using a hydraulic AMD. It is confirmed that the proposed adaptive bang-bang algorithm is applicable to suppress the vibration of multi-DOF structures subject to severe external excitations.

A distinctive feature in vibration control of a large civil infrastructure is the existence of large disturbances, such as wind, earthquake, and sea wave forces. Those disturbances govern the behavior of the structure, however, they cannot be precisely measured, especially for the case of wind-induced vibration control. The sliding mode fuzzy control (SMFC), which is of interest in this study, may use not only the structural response measurement but also the wind force measurement. Hence, an adaptive disturbance estimation filter is introduced to generate a wind force vector at each time instance based on the measured structural response and the stochastic information of the wind force. The structure of the filter is constructed based on an auto-regressive with auxiliary input model. A numerical simulation is carried out on a benchmark problem of a wind-excited building. The results indicate that the overall performance of the proposed SMFC is as good as the other methods and that most of the performance indices improve as the adaptive disturbance estimation filter is introduced.

This paper presents dynamic modeling and controller design of a tracked vehicle installed with the double-rod type ERSU(electro-rheological suspension unit). A 16 DOF(degree-of-freedom) model for the tracked vehicle is established by Lagrangian method. After showing the spring and damping characteristics of the proposed ERSU, equivalent 2 DOF 1/12 tracked vehicle model is then formulated by regarding the spring and viscous damping coefficients under the static state as constant values. A robust LSDP(loop-shaping design procedure)
$H_{\infty}$ controller compensating spring and damping parameter variations is then designed in order to suppress unwanted vibration of the vehicle. The control responses such as vertical and pitch acceleration are presented in time domain. -
This research is concerned with the active vibration control of slewing smart structures subjected to rotating disturbance. When cantilever beam rotates about axes perpendicular to the undeformed beam's longitudinal axis, it experiences inertial loading. Hence, the beam vibrates after the slewing ends. In this paper, the analytical model for a single slewing flexible beam with surface bonded piezoelectric sensor and actuator is developed using the Hamilton's principle with discretization by the assumed mode method. The theoretial model is verified by the experimental open loop frequency response data. The controller is designed for residual vibration suppression after slewing. The designed cotroller is a positive position feedback (PPF) controller for controlling the first mode vibration.

본 논문에서는 고조파 소음을 내는 시스템의기본 주파수 추정을 통한 새로운 피드백 능동소음제어 방법을 제안한다. 기존신호를 측정하기 어려운 상황에서 종래의 다중 정현파 소음의 능동제어 방법은 기준신호를 측정하는 대신 추정된 주파수를 이용하여 기준신호를 만들어낸다. 그러나 비팅현상(beating phenomenon)이 존재할 때는 순간적으로 특정 주파수 성분이 사라지게 되므로 적응 주파수 추정이 어렵게 되어 비팅현상에 의한 주파수 추정에서의 혼돈을 만들어진 기준신호를 쓸모없게 만든다. 제안된 알고리즘은 두 가지 부분으로 구성된다. 첫째는 기본주파수 추정을 이용한 기준신호 발생기이고 둘째는 기존의 피드포워드 제어부분이다. 제안된 결정 규칙을 이용한 기본주파수 추정알고리즘은 비팅현상에 둔감할 뿐 아니라 기존의 직렬형 적응노치필터 방법에 비해 좋은 추종성능과 적은 주파수 추정 오차의 분산을 갖는다. 더욱이 신호대잡음비가 좋지 않아 기존의 주파수 검증하기 위해서 실측한 선박의 객실 소음과 자동차의 시변하는 엔진부밍소음에 대해서 모의 실험을 수해한다.

This paper describes Active Noise Control (ANC) using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) Domain Least Mean Square (LMS) Method. DWT-LMS is one of the transform domain input decorrelation LMS and improves the convergence speed of adaptive filter especially when the input signal is highly correlated. Conventional transform domain LMS's use Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) because it offers linear band signal decomposition and fast transform algorithm. Wavelet transform can project the input signal into the several octave band subspace and offers more efficient sliding fast transform algorithm. In this paper, we propose Wavelet transform domain LMS algorithm and shows its performance is similar to DCT LMS in some cases using ANC simulation.

Driving of the engine makes unbalance forces which induces vibration to the engine mount system. Active vibration control must be performed to reduce the vibration and the propagation of structure-born sound. In this study, the engine system is modeled as 3-dim. vibration system including flexible structures and an effective active noise control method is proposed. Also, appropriate actuator and sensor locations and types are selected. The miniature of the engine vibration system with multi-input multi-output is built and an active vibration control with multiple filtered-X LMS algorithm is applied to it. The applied control method was effective to reduce the transmitted vibration power through the rubber mount It showed the feasibility of the control of the engine vibration systems with flexible structures.

With recent development of technology of high stiffness material and the structural design, the construction of high rise structures such as tall building, tower has increased. The more flexible and slender structure is vulnerable to the internal and external dynamic loads induced by earthquake, wind and traffic load. There have been great effort and many researches to minimize the influence of dynamic loads on the structure. The traditional and stable method, the application of the passive damper, is not able to comply with various dynamic loads, while the mass damper which active control technology is integrated can effectively comply with load types. Therefore, the application of active control of huge structures with AMD(Active mass damper) or HMD(Hybrid Mass damper) is increasing. Up to now, most of actuators are servomotor and hydraulic actuator. But it is known that the electromagnetic actuator applies non contacting control force, which makes the control system easier with no characteristic change depending on time. In this paper, Hybrid mass damper with electromagnetic actuator was designed and applied to building scaled structure. The performance of designed HMD tested by shake table test is included.

Optimal neuro-control algorithm is extended to the control of a multi-degree-of-freedom structure. An active mass driver(AMD) system on the top roof is used as an exciter. The control signals are made by a multi-layer perceptron(MLP) which is trained by minimizing a sub-optimal performance index. The performance index is a function of both the output responses and the control signals. Structure having nonlinear hysteretic behavior is also trained and controlled by using proposed control algorithm. In training neuro-controller, emulator neural network is not used. Instead, sensitivity-test data are used. Therefore, only one neural network is used for the control system. Both the time delay effect and the dynamics of hydraulic actuator are included in the simulation. Example shows that optimal neuro-control algorithm can be applicable to the multi-degree of freedom structures.

This paper describes a theoretical and experimental investigation into an active vibration isolation system in which four electromagnetic actuators are installed in parallel with each of four passive mounts placed between a piece of equipment and a vibrating base structure. Decentralised velocity feedback control is employed, where each actuator is operated independently by feeding back the absolute equipment velocity at the same location. Although one end of each actuator acts at the sensor positions on the equipment, the control system is not collocated because of the reactive forces acting on the flexible base structure, whose dynamics are strongly coupled with the mounted equipment. Isolation of low frequency vibration is considered where the equipment can be modelled as a rigid body and the mounts as lumped parameter springs and dampers. Control mechanisms are discussed, and some experimental and simulation results are reported.

The power flow analysis(PFA) has been performed to analyze the vibration of coupled plates excited by a point force in an arbitrry direction. The energy governing equations for longitudinal, shear and flexural waves were solved to predict the vibrational energy density and intensity. The wave transmission approach was used to consider the mode conversion at the joints of the coupled plates. Numerical results for energy density and intensity on the coupled plates were presented. Comparison of the results by PFA with exact results showed that PFA can be an effective tool to predict the spatial variation of the vibrational energy and intensity on the coupled plates at high frequencies.

A structural-acoustic coupling problem involving fluid in a cavity divided with flexible walls and porous materials is investigated in this paper. In many practical problems, the use of finite elements to discretize the fluid region leads to large stiffness and mass matrices. But, since the acoustic boundary element discretization requires to put elements only on the surface of structure, the size of matrices is reduced considerably. Here, we developed a numerical analysis program for the structural-acoustic coupling problems of the multi-region cavity, using boundary elements for the fluid regions and finite elements for the structure. By considering sound transmission through layered systems placed in a cavity, the accuracy of the coupled acoustical-structural finite element model has been verified by comparing its transmission loss predictions with analytical sloutions. Example problems are included to investigate the characteristics of the multi-region structural-acoustic coupling system with porous material.

For one-dimensional structures, a vibration response consists of direct and reflected waves from boundaries. Based on this concept of separable wave components, a modified travelling wave method (MTWM) is proposed in this paper: while all allowable waves are assumed and the boundary conditions are applied on by the conventional travealling wave method (TWM), in the proposed MTWM direct and reflected waves are assumed within the beam element, and the governing relations between direct and reflected waves are described in terms of the reflection or transmission coefficients. It is shown that the vibration response with considerable accuracy can be obtained compared to TWM for single and coupled beams. It is also shown that the band analysis to obtain quadratic response, or power flow response can be carried out by a slight change of the governing equations for one-dimensional structural systems. It is thought that the suggested MTWM can be used as a unified approach for predicting linear spectral response and/or quadratic band response involved in the one-dimensional structural vibration.

Sound insulation effect of periodically arranged circular rods is studied by numerical method (BEM) and model experiment in anechoic room. Five different cylinder groups of diameter from 48 mm to 27 mm are arranged, where each group consists of 5 rows of identical rods and area ratio is kept almost the same as 60%. Comparisons of results by BEM and experiment show the band gap frequency ranges are qualitatively in agreement, while experiments gives higher attenuations. Frequency shifted attenuations (BEM results) by first group (
${\phi}$ 48), third group (${\phi}$ 34) and fifth group (${\phi}$ 27) show that attenuation curves are in reasonable agreements for both plane wave and point source. -
To predict vibrational energy density and intensity of partitioned complex system structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges, Power Flow Finite Element Method(PFFEM) programs for the plate elements are developed. The flexural, longitudinal and shear waves in plates are formulated and the joint element equations for multi-couped plates are fully developed. Also the wave transmission approach has been introduced to cover the energy transmission and reflection at the joint plate elements. Using the developed PFFEM program the energy density and intensity of the submarine and automobile shape structures are predicted with a harmonic point force at a single frequency.

In order to predict the noise of the spur gear system, a simplified model of spur system including the housing is studied. The spur gear is modeled as a single degree of freedom system. The shaft-housing system is modeled as a clamped circular plate connected with a beam. The moment components of the beam excited by the spur gear mesh force are considered in the calculation of plate vibration and radiated noise. The out-of-displacements of the clamped circular plate due to the r-direction moment and
${\theta}$ -direction moment are calculated. Radiated noise from the plate in the air is also calculated using Rayleigh integral. Using the numerical example, the numerical validation of the analytical procedure on the noise prediction are given. -
진동하는 구조물의 음향 방사 예측에는 키르히호프-헬름홀쯔 적분 방정식에 근본을 둔 경계 요소 해석이 널리 사용된다. 이 경계 요소 해석은 익히 알고 있듯이 구조물의 동적 거동이 정량적으로 표현될 수 있는 경우는 매우 높은 정확도의 예측 결과를 제공한다. 그러나 실제 현상에서 접할 수 있는 복잡한 구조물의 음향 방사 예측에는 많은 변수들로 인해 예측의 정확도가 감소됨은 확실하다. 다른 방법으로는 실험을 통한 임의의 음장 예측 방법인 근음장 음향 홀로그래피(nearfield acoustical holography) 방법을 들 수 있다. 이 방법은 실제로 발생되는 음향 방사로부터 마이크로폰을 이용하여 홀로그램면의 음압 또는 속도를 측정하고 키르히호프-헬름홀쯔 적분 방정식에 적용하여 임의의 홀로그램면에 투사(mapping)시켜 음장을 예측하는 방법이다. 근음장 음향 홀로그래피는 탁월한 정확성을 갖고 있으나, 측정의 복잡성과 홀로그램면을 형성하기 위한 많은 이산점(절점)의 필요성 등의 단점을 갖고 있다. 본 논문에서는 또 다른 음장 예측 방법인 실험의 장점과 유한 요소 해석의 장정을 복합시킨 모드 확장 방법(modal expansion method)을 사용하여 단순 구조물인 평판의 진동에 의한 음장을 예측해 보았다. 모드 확장 방법은 구조물의 동적 거동은 모드의 선형 조합으로 표현될 수 있다는 것에 그 원리를 둔다. 본 논문은 단순 평판을 대상으로 유한 요소 해석으로 구한 모드 정보와 실험에 의해 얻은 입의 가진 주파수에 대한 진동 표면의 속도 분포를 조합하여 속도 경계 조건을 구성, 경계 요소 해석으로 음장 예측을 수행하였으며 모드 확장 방법을 사용함에 있어 고려해야할 몇 가지 사항에 대해 다루었다.

In scroll compressors, there are two major noise sources. Sturctural path: excitation of the compressor housing by unbalance forces and forces generated by compression cycle. Gas cavity path: excitation of top cap by discharge gas pulsation. In this study, in order to analyze the radiated noise generated by the discharge gas pulsation, FEM/BEM model of the top cap is established. Measured pressure of discharge pulsation is introduced in the FEM model as the excitation and vibration response is calculated. Radiated sound pressure is then obtained by BEM method based on this vibration response. Results are compared with the measured data. It is shown that the trend of the noise radiation can be predicted in this approadch.

Impedance is an inherent property that represents the relation between the excitation and motion of a system. It is not only gives the frequency characteristics of the system but also help us to understand an interaction with the other systems. If the impedance to be described is not with respect to a point but to a certain area, modal impedance must be used. However, it is highly dependent on modal functions and it is needed to know all information on the modal impedance to understand the whole characteristics. In this paper, two new types of impedances are introduced: the first and second kinds of total impedances. Their definitions certainly convey the implication that their properties are similar to the conventional impedance. With some limit checks and the simulations of several simple systems, we found that they are useful to describe the frequency characteristics of systems.

Though there have been many researches to investigate the relationship between the damage location, damage size and the changes in eigenparameters, there have been few studies on the small-sized damages. Thus, this paper considers the plate with small local damages. The equation of motion for damaged plate is derived in terms of the damage distribution function and then the effects of small damages on the dynamic characteristics of plate are investigated. It is observed that the damage-induced modal coupling and a sufficient number of vibration modes should be considered especially for small damage detections.

A computational study on the effect of sweep angle of axial fan on its noise is performed in the present paper. The forward swept axial fan was designed by numerical optimization method incorporated with three dimensional flow analysis. The objective function was defined by the ratio of generation rate of turbulent kinetic energy to pressure head. And, two variables related with sweep angle distribution are used for design variables. The swept fan has better performance characteristics and noise level. The experimental result shows that spectrums of no-sweet and swept fans have differences in the blade passage frequency, especially in the broadband. And the overall noise level of swept fan is lower 10dB(A) than that of no-sweep fan. For the comparison of flow fields between no-sweep fan and swept fan, CFX-TASCflow computational fluid dynamics software is used. Standard k-
${\varepsilon}$ model is used for the turbulence model. Distributions of pressure and turbulent kinetic energy distributions are compared in order to find what happen in the low-noise swept fan. -
A noise prediction method of axial flow fan is developed by incorporating through-flow method and vortex shedding noise model. Fan noise is assumed to be generated due to the pressure fluctuation induced by wake vortices of fan blades and radiate as diploe distribution. The wake vortices are analyzed by combining Karman vortex street model and through-flow analysis results, and the vortex-induced fluctuating pressure on blade surface is calculated by thin airfoil theory. The predicted sound pressure levels and directivity patterns of fan noise by the present method are favorably compared with fan noise test data. Furthermore, the present method is shown to be very useful for predicting the aero-acoustic performance map of the fan operated at off-design point.

In this paper, a successful result of modification of an axial flow fan and a shroud for noise reduction of a window type air conditioner is presented especially in order to verify the importance of blade shape improvement and the searching for the optimal shape of shrouds. Effective ways to work out the result as mentioned above are to make the tip of the blade varied in thickness and to have special shapes. From the viewpoint of the shape in a shroud, several cases were examined and the particular value of a design parameter of the shroud was acquired to get the best noise reduction of an air conditioner. Through the application of the methods, the air conditioner became less noisy by 4.5 dB(A) in terms of air-borne noise produced only by the axial flow fan and consumed less energy by 20.9% compared to the current one.

Axial fans are widely used in heavy machines due to their ability to produce high flow rate for cooling of engines. At the same time, the noise generated by these fans causes one of the most serious problems. This work is concerned with the low noise technique of discrete frequency noise. The prediction model, which allowed the calculation of acoustic pressure at the blade passing frequency and it's harmonics, has been developed by Farrasat. This theory is founded upon the acoustic radiation of unsteady forces acting on blade. To calculate the unsteady resultant force over the fan blade. Time-Marching Free-Wake Method are used. The ideas of low noise technique are obtained from Blade-Momentum Methods. In this paper, the discussion is confined to the performance and discrete noise of axial fan in heavy equipments.

It is addressed that the turbulent broadband sound power from a sirocco fan can be modeled by the trailing edge noise. The trailing edge noise is usually influenced by inflow turbulence, separation, and boundary layer on the blade. The design parameters such as solidity(c/s) and stagger angle are specified to predict performance and noise level because the separation and slip velocity are strongly affected by them along with the flow coefficient. This paper reports the effects of the solidity and the stagger angle upon the trailing edge noise from the circular arc-shaped blade of sirocco fan.

In the Over-The-Range, the outlet size is limited by the industrial standards. Therefor to enlarge the volume of cavity, the installation height of ventilation fan is become small, the system resistance is higher than before. For that reason, the important design variables such as the diameter of a fan, the scroll expansion angle, etc. which play the significant role on flow rate and noise, are confined. In this study, we made an experiment of the diameter of fans relation to scroll expansion angle and investigated flow rate of the length of fans in enlarged cavity volume of OTR, and then we designed the new scroll to improve the flow rate and noise level. As a result, flow rate increased to 110% compared to current scroll and the blade passing frequency of a fan is disappeared by inclined cut-off shapes.

Response surface method is employed in optimizing the acoustic performance of automotive engine-cooling axial fans. The effects of modifications in blade geometry on noise reduction are investigated. Taking the far-field noise level as the objective, a quadratic response surface is constructed utilizing D-Optimality condition as the candidate-points selection criteria. It is shown that the quadratic model exhibits an excellent fitting capability resulting in the blade design with low far-field noise level.

The noise sources from a rotating cylinder were identified to describe the blunt trailing edge noise. Firstly, LES formulation was applied to a non-orthogonal grid system and was tested with three-dimensional cross-flow over a cylinder with a yaw angle. The computed far-field noise showed peaks at Strouhal numbers ranging from 0.135 to 0.165 for the yawed cylinder flow with end-plates placed at both extremes under the yaw angle of
$30^{\circ}$ and Reynolds number of$1.15{\times}10^4$ . It was observed that the slantwise shedding at angles other than the cylinder yaw angle is intrinsic to inclined cylinder, with the result of shedding angles between$15^{\circ}$ and$31^{\circ}$ . To study the trailing-edge wake thickness and unsteady lift-coefficient distribution in the span-wise direction of a rotating fan blade, the flows around rotating cylinder with 1,000 rpm were simulated and the far-field noise was exactly computed using the Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings equation with quadrupole source term. The incoming velocities and stagnant zones were continuously distributed along the cylinder, and their changes made the Strouhal sheddings to occur at different phases even at almost same Strouhal number. -
The revision was provided for the method of A-weighted sound pressure measurement for fans and blowers, in which the newly developed measurement techniques were applied to KS B 6361. This revision includes the sound power methods for radiated sound from the body, the in-duct measurement method, and the correction method for flow noise upon measuring microphone, etc.

It is shown, in nonlinear two-degree-of freedom system, that the bifurcating modes are created by the stability changes of normal modes. There are four types of stability criterion, each of which gives rise to a distinct functional form of bifurcating modes; the bifurcating mode is born in the form of eigenfunction through which the stability is changed. Then a procedure is formulated to compute the bifurcating mode by the method of harmonic balance. Application of bifurcating mode to forced vibrations is introduced.

An investigation into the nonlinear free vibrations of a cantilever beam which can have not only planar motion but also nonplanar motion is made. Using Galerkin's method based on the first mode in each motion, we transform the boundary and initial value problem into an initial value problem of two-degree-of-freedom system. The system turns out to have two normal modes. By Synge's stability concept we examine the stability of each mode. In order to check validity of the stability we obtain the numerical Poincare map of the motions neighboring on each mode.

A three-parameter model of viscoelastic damper, which has a non-linear spring as an element is incorporated into an oscillator. The behavior of the damper model shows non-linear hysteresis curves which is qualitatively similar to those of real viscoelastic materials. The motion is governed by three-dimensional non-linear dynamical system of equations. The harmonic balance method is applied to get analytic solutions of the system. The frequency-response curves show that multiple solutions co-exist and that the jump phenomena can occur. In addition, it is shown that separate solution branch exists and that it can merge with the primary response curve. Saddle-node bifurcation sets explain the occurences of such non-linear phenomena. A direct time integration of the original equation of motion validifies the use of the harmonic balance method to this sort of problem.

Impact occurs when the vibration amplitude of a mechanical component exceeds a given clearance size. Examples of these mechanical systems include impact dampers, gears, link mechanism, rotor rub, and so on. The vibration due to impact has strong non-linear characteristics, which cannot be predicted by usual linear analysis. The designs of mechanical systems with impacts should be done on the basis of overall dynamic characteristics of the systems. In this paper, the nonlinear behaviors of a beam with a periodically moving support and a rigid stop are investigated numerically and experimentally. The beam vibration with impact is modeled by the equations of motion containing piecewise linear restoring forces and by the coefficient of restitution, respectively. Experimental and numerical results show jump phenomena and higher-harmonic vibrations. The effects between the increase of stiffness during impact and the coefficient of restitution are investigated through the comparison of the experimental and numerical results.

Mechanical problems are basically three dimensional nonlinear dynamic problems, which makes it difficult to solve. The difficulties are tried to overcome by modeling, i.e., simplifications of the system with the assumptions or negligence of minute effects. However, the correctness or usefulness of the model should be verified through the comparison with experimental results, which is the process of physical understanding of the system. The understanding of physics of the system make it possible to design or operation of the system. The effects of clearance and friction are always difficult problems in mechanical system due to its nonlinearity. The nonlinearity comes from piecewise-linear characteristics of the stiffness and damping of the system. The modeling of piecewise-linearity and the experimental result are discussed in this paper for impact and friction oscillator and rotor rubbing problem, which is the combination of impact and friction problems.

HDD가 비동작중 외부충격을 받았을 경우에 대해 수치해석을 이용하여 HSA(head stack ass'y)의 거동과 헤드가 디스크 면에서 멀어지는 Lift-off level을 고찰하고, actuator의 arm blade(primary system)의 끝단에 보조의 구조물(auxiliary system)을 붙여 반사인파의 가속도입력에 의해 발생되는 HSA의 진폭을 감소시키고 내충격성능을 향상시키고자 한다. 보조 구조물의 형태와 재료는 arm blade의 공진과 연계한 공진주파수의 최적화과정에 의해 결정된다. 실제 제품의 취급에서 가장 쉽게 발생할 수 있는 0.5ms의 duration time으로부터 제품의 성능평가 요건인 2ms의 duration time까지의 반사인파의 입력에 대한 응답을 고찰한 결과 보조의 구조물을 가졌을 경우 주 시스템보다 훨씬 높은 충격에서 헤드의 lift-off이 발생되어 전체 시스템의 내충격성능을 향상시킴을 알 수 있다.

The vibration of the hard disk drive (HDD) systems, which comprises flexible disks, flexible shafts, bearings, and base structures, are analyzed by a finite element method (FEM) to cope with complicated coupling effects between them. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the uncoupled, axial and bending coupled vibrations are calculated. Modal testing of the HDD systems is performed to validate the finite element analysis (FEA) results. Good agreement was obtained between the computed and experimental results. Sizing design sensitivity analysis (DSA) of the system was performed with the thickness of base structure and bearing stiffness as design variables. The DSA results tell how can I increase or decrease eigenvalue of the system effectively.

The topology optimization of electromagnetic systems is investigated and the TOPEM (Topology Optimization for Electromagnetic Systems) is developed using the finite element method (FEM). The design sensitivity equation for topology optimization is derived using the adjoint variable method. The proposed method is validated by applying it to the topology optimizations of a C-core actuator and an optical pickup actuator.

We obtain the mathematical model of the hard disk drive actuator system from the system response data of the finite element analysis or experimental results. System response data including the dynamics of the considered system are expressed as the mathematical model. It allows the dynamic analysis of the actuator system without resort to the repetitive finite element modeling work. Even though the dynamic characteristics of the system are affected somewhat by the structural modification and the change of the dynamic properties, we can use the modified size and material properties of the actuator system in the mathematical model to some extent. In this study, we express the mathematical model of the simplified rectangular plate first and then proceed to the actual hard disk drive actuator system.

As the disk rotation speed increases in information storage devices, aerodynamically excited disk vibration is induced by airflow around the disk. This paper investigates theoretical and experimental studies on the disk flutter instability in CD-ROM drives. The effect of airflow on the disk vibration is modeled as the distributed damping and lift forces. By analyzing the eigenvalue problem of the aero-elastic coupling model, we introduces a novel technique to predict the flutter speed by comparing experimental natural frequencies with analytical ones of a disk rotating in vacuum. The new method predicts that the vibration mode with two nodal diameters in a CD disk experiences the first flutter instability at 12,000 rpm.

This paper presents a very simple procedure for determining the sensitivities of the eigenpairs of damped vibratory system with distinct eigenvalues. The eigenpairs derivatives can be obtained by solving algebraic equation with a symmetric coefficient matrix whose order is (n+1)
${\times}$ (n+1), where n is the number of degree of freedom the mothod is an improvement of recent work by I. W. Lee, D. O. Kim and G. H. Jung; the key idea is that the eigenvalue derivatives and the eigenvector derivatives are obtained at once via only one algebraic equation, instead of using two equations separately as like in Lee and Jung's method. Of course, the method preserves the advantages of Lee and Jung's method. -
Micro wave seeker detects micro wave signal reflecting from a object and modifies the angle of a antenna in the direction of a reflecting signal. Gimbal structure makes a motion in the direction of an elevation axis and an azimuth axis and change the direction of a missile toward a object. As before, Micro wave seeker is a important part of a missile. Especially, gimbal structure is designed to resist a external force generated by a strong propelling power. For that reason, it is essential to analyze a vibration feature of gimbal structure. In this paper, we analyze dynamic characteristics of a gimbal structure of a micro wave seeker. And we measure frequency response functions of a gimbal structure in order to investigate the effect of a pre-load on bearing.

Micro wave seeker consists of a gimbal structure, a antenna and many RF parts. And Missile's propelling powers excite a gimbal structure, a antenna and many RF parts. Therefore, We must inquire into external forces to act on a micro wave seeker before everything. We must inquire into design parameters and then estimate dynamic characteristics of a gimbal structure with a finite element model to reflect part's characteristics for design for a gimbal structure in consideration of vibration features. In this paper, a gimbal structure of a micro wave seeker is modeled in finite element method and then updated by using the experimental modal data. Before we make a finite element model of a gimbal structure of a micro wave seeker, we make a finite element model of a sub-structure and compare with the experimental modal data.

The types of responses which are generally measured in the modal testing are displacement, velocity or acceleration. In strain modal testing, however, strain responses subject to excitation forces are measured. In this paper, the characteristics of strain modal testing are investigated experimentally. Investigated are the effects of frequency range, excitation force level, and excitation signal on the quality of measured strain frequency response functions. It has been shown that a strain FRF at a point can be predicted from displacement FRFs and strain FRFs at other points.

The vibration shape of the structure with arbitrary boundary condition under excitation is determined by the governing equation and the boundary condition and driving force. In this paper, driving point impedance that is defined by the ratio of the driving force at one point to the velocity of that point is selected as a measure to identify the boundary condition. First, this paper deals with a string with arbitrary boundary condition. It is selected because of its simplicity, but generality of which exhibits the desired physical phenomena. Particularly the relation among the driving point impedance, the boundary condition and the vibration shape is dealt as a primary step to identify the boundary condition by using the driving point impedance.

If the displacement of the structure is obtained by integrating the signal from accelorometer and laser, the vibration mode can be examined. This conventional method, however, has the disadvantage of the necessity of multiple accelerometers and many data processing steps such as frequency response function(FRF). In order to get smooth mode shape, we should also use algorithms of cubic spline or others. In this paper, we propose a method which gets the mode shape by using the velocity signal directly obtained from the plane scanning. In this method, we just use coefficients and phases for specific frequency.

The present paper introduces a new fixed interface component mode synthesizing technique based on the notion of higher-order field-consistency. The present technique employs higher-order residual constraint modes in addition to lower fixed interface normal modes while consistency in matching field variables at the substructure interface is maintained. The present field-consistency approach does not increase the size of the synthesized system even if higher-order residual constraint modes are included. A new field-consistent higher-order synthesis technique is first presented and a numerical example is given to verify the present method.

Vibration localization of a periodic structure with mistuning is presented in this paper. Mistuning in periodic structures can lead to an increase of the forced response which is much larger than those of perfectly tuned assembly. Thus, mistuning has a critical impact on high cycle fatigue in structures, and it is of great importance to predict the mistuned forced response in efficient manner. In this paper, forced response of a coupled pendulum is investigated to identify localization effects of periodic structures. The effects of mistuning and damping on the maximum forced response are examined. It is seen that in certain condition of mistuning and coupling, strong localization occurs and this can be significant under weak damping.

The improved mode superposition methods for non-classically damped systems are presented in this paper. Generally, the mode superposition method uses a relatively small subset of the normal modes of structures. The mode acceleration method and the modal truncation augmentation method improve the results of the mode superposition method by considering effects of truncated high modes. For using these methods to analyze non-classically damped systems, the systems are approximated to the classically damped systems and thereby the errors are induced. In this paper, the mode acceleration method and the modal truncation augmentation method are expanded to analyze the non-classically damped systems. The applicability of the expanded methods is verified by closed form solutions and numerical examples. The expanded modal truncation augmentation method is conditionally stable depending on the pattern of the external loading in the non-classically damped systems whereas the expanded mode acceleration method is stable for the all cases of loading. In the stable case, the results are the same with those of the expanded mode acceleration method.

This paper presents new sensitivity analysis algorithm for the dynamic response of three dimensional rectilinear type structure. This method is derived from a combination of the transfer stiffness coefficient method(TSCM) and the Newmark method. We developed dynamic response analysis algorithm by TSCM. This method has more safe computational precision and time than transfer matrix method(TMM). We defined new design variable and object function, and computated simple three dimensional computation model by TSCM. The presented analysis algorithm was validated by results of changing design variable.

In order to make a quiet zone, one can consider methods to generate a secondary sound field that cancels a primary sound field. Active noise control (ANC) is one of the kinds. This paper mainly deals with the issues on determining the optimal positions of control sources and sensors for making a desired quiet zone. The issues address the reason why the positions are important, how the positions are optimized, and what the measure on the optimal positions is in an uncertain sound field. It is also shown that a power control is applicable to a specific uncertain sound field. In addition, this paper shows that a control material method, which passively changes a boundary condition, is essentially found to be on the same road of ANC.

The physical properties of the spatial model, mass, stiffness and damping matrix, can be defined by a specific natural frequency, damping ratio and mode shape. These modal parameters can be determined from a set of frequency response function(FRF) measured by exciting the structure and measuring the responses at various points around the structure. In this paper, The Transfer Matrix is obtained by experimental modal analysis for the 3-story scaled building model which TMD is installed on top and the physical properties of the spatial model is determined using the residue matrix and the location of poles from FRF measurement using polynomial curve fitting methods.

Tire-pavement noise is a significant portion of noise coming from road vehicles and is therefore a logical focus of efforts to reduce overall traffic noise. A small but significant reduction of noise level with positive temperature increases was observed for some tires. The reduction was evident in two of the tires at 53 km/h and five of the tires at 80 km/h. The temperature gradient of the different tires at 80 km/h range from -0.07 to +0.01 dB/
$^{\circ}C$ . Frequency analysis of the tire noise identified that noise content in the range of 1,300 to 1,900 Hz is particularly sensitive to temperature changes. -
The equivalent source method is used to calculate the internal pressure field for an enclosure which can have arbitrary boundary conditions and may include internal objects which scatter the sound. Some of the equivalent positions are chosen to be the same as the first order images of the source inside the enclosure, some are positioned on a spherical surface some distance outside the enclosure. The normal velocity on the surfaces of the enclosure walls is evaluated at a larger number of positions than there are equivalent sources. The sum of the squared difference between this velocity and the expected is minimized by adjusting the strength of the equivalent sources. The convergence of this method is checked by evaluating the velocity error at a larger number of monitoring positions. Example results are presented for various numbers of sources and evaluation points. The results showed that in general the more equivalent sources increased the accuracy of the sound field predictions but the accuracy is not too much sensitive to the numbers of evaluation points.

The background noise and transmission loss of wall were measured on site for the multiplex cinema. The results from the simulation analysis was compared with the measurements from the site for different frequencies to review the acoustical parameters, and the analysis results in the relatively small error. Therefore, it is concluded that the reliable estimation can be made once accurate data such as sound source and sound absorption coefficient of interior material is utilized during the simulation process. However, the calibration is necessary for the test room with the small room volume.

Two basic acoustic quantities, the characteristic impedances and the propagation constants, of the two different ultra lightweight concrete absorbers were examined with impedance tube method. A transmission loss was tested and compared with theoretical values. The results show that these kinds of sample have proper sound absorption and transmission loss capabilities. It means that they can be used in various fields where noise proof is needed.

The aim of this study is to compare the sound insulation performances of window depending on the measurement methods through the field test and analyze the factors that affect the sound insulation performances. Four measurement methods which are specified in the Koran Standard 2235 and the International Standard 140-5 were selected for the study; the outdoor sound source method which is classified the l000mm method and the 10mm method, the indoor sound source method, and the ISO method. The result of this study is that the sound insulation performance of the windows was the best when measured according to the ISO method and the worst the indoor sound source method. Through the study it was found that the main factors affecting the sound insulation performance of the windows were the correction of the specimen's area and the equivalent sound absorption area of the receiving room.

It has been noted that the low frequency absorption coefficient of a porous sample placed in a standing wave tube is affected by the nature of the sample's edge constraint. The edge constraint has the effect of stiffening the solid phase of the sample, which itself can be strongly coupled to the material's fluid phase, and hence the incident sound field, by viscous means at low frequencies. In recent work it has also been shown that such a circumferential constraint causes the low frequency transmission loss of a layer of fibrous material to approach a finite low frequency limit that is proportional to the flow resistance of the layer and which is substantially higher than that of an unconstrained sample of the same material. However, it was also found that the benefit of the circumferential edge constraint was reduced in a transitional frequency range by a shearing resonance of the sample. Here it will be shown that the effect of that resonance can be mitigated or eliminated by adding additional axial and radial constraints running through the sample. It will also be shown that the constraint effect can be modeled closely by using a finite element procedure based on the Biot poroelastic theory. Implications for low frequency barrier design are also discussed.

In general, structural vibration from the shock wave is more serious than the pulsating gas bubble. This shock wave may damage the important fragile structures and equipment in ship. This paper demonstrates that the shock wave propagating the structure can be reduced by ER inserts. The wave transmission of ER inserted beam is theoretically derived using Mead & Markus model, and the theoretical results are composed with the finite element analysis results. To experimentally verify the ER insert, ER insert in an aluminum plate is made and two piezoceramic disks are used as transmitter and receiver. Details of the experiment are addressed.

Design of experiments based on Taguchi's orthogonal array is utilized for exploring the design space and for building response surface models of insulator and isolator database in order to facilitate the effective solution of multi-objective optimization commonly occurred in NVH problems. Response surface models, called engineering database of design space, provide an efficient means to rapidly model the trade-off among many conflicting NVH goals in automotive. In the design of insulator and isolator in automotive interior part, it is important not only to construct effective matrices of NVH but also to build up engineering database of current products. The experimental design especially based on orthogonal array and the nonlinear optimization algorithms are successfully used together to obtain the optimal design of insulator and isolator. The
$2^{nd}$ order response surface models of absorption coefficient and insertion loss are constructed by using modified Taguchi's$L_{12}2^13^7$ orthogonal array and successfully used in optimal design of insulator and isolator. -
A finite element model for the transient dynamic analysis of a PWR fuel assembly was developed and programmed as a name of DAMASS. The Newmark time integration method was used to solve the governing equation of motion. Results of the program was compared with those of ANSYS in terms of displacement and impact forces to show the validity of the model. Up to now it has capability of solving the linear impact of FA(s) and it will be extended to the non-linear analysis of a FA in the future.

This paper reports an example of flow-induced vibration in a very large plant and the whole procedure of reducing the vibration. During the operation of flue gas desurfurization unit of the thermal power plant, serious vibration occurred at all around the unit. The worst vibration was recorded on the heat exchanger surface, which weighed 180 tones, as 17.8 m/
$s^2$ in vibration amplitude at 34Hz. To identify the vibration, frequency analysis on the response vibration, the expected excitation force and the system resonance was executed. This investigation revealed that the cause of the vibration was vortex shedding from the circular pipes in the heat exchanger. Vortices from the pipes excited acoustic resonance in the heat exchanger room, which, in turn, made the structure vibrate. Through inserting the baffles between the pipes, which had an effect of cutting the acoustic wave at resonance frequency, the vibration was eliminated dramatically. -
Estimation for the vibration behavior of a nuclear fuel rod with its supporting structure called spacer grid has been made by the both of experimental and analytical methods in order to compare the supporting performance of two kinds of the spacer grids which have been newly developed. For the analytical method the fuel rod was modeled as a beam continuously supported by the springs of the spacer grid, and ABAQUS computer code was utilized. After a modal testing was performed for the fuel rod supported by five spacer grids, two results has been compared to justify and compensate the both methods. It has been found that the spring design of the spacer grid could give significant effect to natural frequency and vibration amplitude of the fuel rod.

This paper deals with the dynamic stability of a vertical cantilevered pipe conveying fluid and having two attached masses. Some valves or other mechanical components in pipe systems can be regarded as attached lumped masses. Governing equations are derived by energy expressions, and numerical technique using Galerkin's method is applied to discretize the equations of small motion of the pipe. Effects of attached masses on the dynamic stability of a vertical cantilevered pipe conveying fluid are investigated for various locations and magnitudes of the attached lumped masses.

In this paper, Firstly, it is shown that the high vibration source of piping system is the pulsation transmission of pipe line element, such as, orifice plate, valves and the control valve is a broad band source and the branch wall and the cavity have vortex frequency. Secondly, in order to decrese the high vibration of piping system, some practical Friction damper with high damping have been developed and its effectiveness is investigated as installing it at piping system practically.

Slopping phenomena deteriorate the productivity and the stability of operation in oxygen converter process. To predict and prevent that, it needs reliable perception of the internal state of the oxygen converter chamber. Equipment was developed to measure the dynamic and static behavior of the oxygen-blowing lance 3-dimensionally and the measured signal is analyzed in relation to slopping phenomena. It was found that the behavior of the lance is strongly correlated to the change of slag foam height and the instability of molten steel behavior. So slopping phenomena can be predicted by simultaneously analyzing the measured behavior of the lance and the control factors such as the flow rate of oxygen and the height of lance.

Angular misalignment is one of the important causes for shaft vibration of turbine-generator in 1000MW nuclear power plant. It may cause the plant unexpected shutdown and subsequent accident. The change of dynamic characteristics in journal bearing and rotor due to angular misalignment in high pressure turbine is analyzed. The stiffness/damping coefficients of journal bearing increase as angular misalignment. Subsequently the natural frequency of HP turbine is changed. It was found that the natural frequency may locate near 2 times operating frequency in case of severe misalignment.

Loose parts monitoring system(LPMS) is one of the important monitoring systems for the safe and efficient operation of the nuclear reactor, since it is LPMS that can early detect loose parts which may cause a significant damage in facilities or components of the plant. Nuclear power plants in Korea have recently experienced several loose part alarms due to the metallic impact and it is expected that the frequency of the loose part will be increased along the aging of the plants. In this paper, the status of loose parts monitoring technologies and facilities in Korean nuclear power plants is presented for the establishment of LPMS installation plan in some nuclear reactors which are not yet equipped with LPMS. Sensor specification, location and mounting method for loose parts monitoring were reviewed. As a result, the location and the mounting method of the properly chosen sensor was recommended. Data acquisition algorithms and discriminating rules of loose part impact signals were also reviewed. Actual alarm cases occurred by true impact signal and false impact signal were stated here.

Reactor Noise is defined as the fluctuations of measured instrumentation signals during full-power operation of reactor which have informations on reactor system dynamics such as neutron kinetics, thermal-hydraulics, and structural dynamics. Reactor noise analyses of ex-core neutron detector signals have been performed to monitor the vibration modes of reactor internals such as fuel assembly and Core Support Barrel in Yonggwang 3&4 Nuclear Power Plant. A real time mode separation technique have been developed and applied for the analyses. It has been found that the first vibration mode frequency of the fuel assembly was around 2.5 Hz, the beam and shell mode frequencies of CSB(Core Support Barrel) 8 Hz and 14.5 Hz, respectively. Also the analyses data base have been constructed for the continuous monitoring and diagnose of the reactor internals.

This paper presents a modeling method for the vibration analysis of cantilever beams with an elastically restrained root. Mass and stiffness matrices are derived explicitly by considering the elastically restrained root coupling effect between stretching and bending motion. Numerical results show that the two effects influence the vibration characteristics of rotating beams significantly. The results also present the magnitude of the elastic stiffness of the root to avoid the dynamic buckling. The method presented in this paper can be used to provide accurate predictions of the variations of natural frequencies of rotating beams with an elastically restrained root.

The dynamic stability of spinning beam with free boundary conditions for both edges subjected to a tip follower force
$P_0+P_1cos{\Omega}t$ is analyzed. It is studied that the beam has a concentrated mass. and then the effects of the axial locations of the mass are studied. The beam is modelled with the Timoshenko type shear deformations. The Hamilton's principle is used to derive the equations of motion, and the critical spinning speed of a beam subjected to a follower force with various non-dimensional parameters is investigated. The finite elements are used with$C^0$ continuity to analyze the spinning beam model, and the method of multiple scales is tried to investigate the dynamic instability regions. The governing equations of motion involve periodic coefficients, which are not in the form of standard Mathieu-Hill equations. The result shows that the concentrated mass increases the dynamic stability of the spinning free-free beam subjected to a thrust. -
On the dynamic behavior of a simple beam subjected to an uniformly distributed tangential follower force, the influences of the velocities and magnitudes of a moving mass have been studied by numerical method. The instant amplitude of a simple beam is calculated and analyzed for each position of the moving mass represented by the time functions. The uniformly distributed tangential follower force is considered in its critical value of a simple beam, and four values of velocity is also chosen. Their coupling effects on the deflections of a simple beam are inspected too. When a moving mass moves after middle zone of a simple beam at the low velocities, its deflection is increased by the coupling of an uniformly distributed tangential follower force and moving mass.

This paper deals with the free vibrations of horizontally curved beams on an elastic foundation. Taking into account the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation, the differential equations governing free vibrations of noncircular curved beams resting on Pasternak-type foundations are derived and solved numerically. The lowest three natural frequencies for parabolic curved beams with hinged-hinged and clamped-clamped end restraints are calculated. Numerical results are presented to show the effects on the natural frequencies of the non-dimensional system parameters: the horizontal rise to span length ratio, the Winkler foundation parameter, the shear foundation parameter, and the width ratio of contact area between the beam and foundation.

The main purpose of this paper is to present both the fundamental and some higher natural frequencies of axially loaded Timoshenko beams resting on the elastic foundation. The non-dimensional differential equation governing the free vibrations of such beam is derived in which the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation are included. The Improved Euler method and Determinant Search method are used to perform the integration of the differential equation and to determine the natural frequencies, respectively. The hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped end constraints are applied in numerical examples. The relations between frequency parameters and both the foundation parameter and slenderness ratio are presented in figures. The effect of cross-sectional shapes is also investigated.

Dynamic stability of an axially oscillating cantilever beam with a concentrated mass is investigated in this paper. The equations of motion are derived and the derived equations include harmonically oscillating parameters which originate from the motion-induced stiffness variation. Under certain conditions of the frequency and the amplitude of oscillating motion, parametric instabilities may occur. The multiple scale perturbation method is employed to obtain the stability analysis results. It is found that the system stability varies with the magnitude or the location of the concentrated mass. Instability increases as the concentrated mass approaches to the free-end or its magnitude increases.

Although there have been many investigations employing the continuous wavelet transform for the analysis of dispersive waves, they seem to lack theoretical justifications for the effectiveness of the continuous wavelet transform over other time-frequency analysis tools such as the short-time Fourier transform. The goal of this paper is to answer this question by investigating theoretically the performance of the continuous wavelet transform and the short-time Fourier transform in tracing rapidly time-varying flexural waves. As a specific example, the performance of the two transforms is compared in a problem dealing with flexural waves generated by an impact in a solid circular cylinder.

The vibration of an axially moving string is studied when the string has geometric non-linearity and translating acceleration. Based upon the von karman strain theory, The equation for the longitudinal vibration is linear and uncoupled, while the equation for the transverse vibration is non-linear and coupled between the longitudinal and transverse deflections. The governing equations are discretized by using the Galerkin approximation. With the discretized nonlinear equations, the time responses are investigated by using the generalized-
${\alpha}$ method. -
The paper describes a theoretical study on the flexural vibration of an elastic rectangular plate with periodically nonuniform material properties. The approximate solution of the natural frequency and mode shape has been obtained using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidity and mass density. It has been shown that distributed modes exist in the plate which is a two-dimensional model of the flat panel speaker.

This paper presents an equivalent linearization method and application to the equations of motion of a 6 degree-of-freedom PRRS HexaSlide type parallel manipulators which are characterized as the architecture with constant link lengths that are attached to moving sliders on the ground and to a mobile platform. Since dynamic equations of parallel manipulators are complicated and highly nonlinear, control bandwidth, adjustable control gain as well as vibration characteristics cannot be easily found. The proposed equivalent linearization method can be applied over specified workspace as well as on a path of mobile platform. Through an equivalent linearization method, one can easily get a simple linear dynamic model. This linearized dynamic model may be utilized in a simplified computed torque control strategy.

The resonant frequency of a gas-filled cylindrical Helmholtz resonator in a liquid is obtained analytically. The equation of motion of the resonator is derived by using the condition of equilibrium of forces acting on the mass in the neck of the resonator. The reaction force on the upper side of the cylinder due to the acceleration of external fluid and sound radiation is obtained by using the analytical results for the baffled circular-piston problem. From the frequency response function of the resonator, a formula to predict the resonant frequency of the resonator is derived. It is shown that the resonant frequency of the Helmholtz resonator significantly decreases due to the cushioning effect of gas inside the cavity. Therefore, when a pressure transducer is to be installed in a pin-hole type mounting method, much care should be paid to remove the gas from the cavity.

The cavitation-induced fluctuating pressure of the container ship named "Sydney Express" is measured in Samsung Large Cavitation Tunnel(SCAT). In the measurements, a complete ship model is employed. The effects of thrust coefficient and cavitation number on cavity pattern and cavitation-induced fluctuating pressure were investigated experimentally. It is demonstrated that the fluctuating pressure coefficient is very sensitive to the cavitation number. The results of cavitation and pressure fluctuations are compared with those of ITTC and HSVA, which shows fairly good agreement. It is exhibited that the removal of rudder can significantly change the loading condition of a propeller, and can reduce the fluctuating pressure coefficient almost by half.

Recently, the singing phenomenon was encountered during the sea trials of high speed catamaran and 46,000 TDW product carrier and remedied after various treatments, which were based on the reduction of vortex shedding strength and the avoidance of resonance, respectively. And, the numerical approach for structure-acoustical problem like singing phenomenon was established using MSC/NASTRAN and SYSNOISE. In this paper, the effectiveness of numerical approach was verified through the control of singing noise. And the results according to the modification were also discussed. Finally, the future works were described to enhance the numerical approach pattern for singing phenomenon.

In this paper, an experimental identification method is presented to identify the bulge wave and extensional wave propagation speeds in the fluid-filled elastic hose. An fluid-filled hose is hanged vertically for straight position. The exciting device of piston type is developed to generate the bulge wave and extensional wave in the elastic hose. Hydrophones are arranged in the fluid-filled hose linearly to measure the wave pressure. The wave speeds are estimated using the wavenumber-frequency spectrum analysis technique.

It has been long suspected that the transition region may give rise to local pressure fluctuations and radiated sound that are different from those created by the fully-developed turbulent boundary layer at equivalent Reynolds number. Experimental investigation described in this paper concerns the characteristics of pressure fluctuations at the transition. Flush-mounted microphones and hot wires are used to measure the pressure fluctuations and local flow velocities within the boudary layer in the low noise wind tunnel. From this experimental we could observe the spatial and temporal development process of T-S wave using Wigner-Ville method and found the possibility of relation between the characteristic frequency of T-S wave and free stream velocity and the boundary layer thickness based on nondimensional pressure spectra scaled on outer variables.

It is essential to analyze structural vibrations due to turbulent wall pressure fluctuations over a body surface which moves through a fluid, because the vibrations can be a severe source of noise affecting to passengers in airplanes and SONAR performance. Generally, this kind of problems have been solved for very simplified models, e.g. plates, which can be applied to the wavenumber domain analysis. In this paper, a finite element modeling of the wall pressure fluctuations over arbitrary smooth surfaces is investigated. It is found that the modeled wall pressure fluctuation at nodes becomes uncorrelated at higher frequencies and at lower flow speeds, and the response is over-estimated due to the aliased power. Finally, the frequency range available for uncorrelated loading model and two power correction schemes are presented.

In this article, the underwater radiated noise of the submerged cylindrical shell model is investigated using hull transfer functions which were defined in accordance with structureborne and airborne noise propagation paths. This method is very useful tool as the prediction of radiated noise from submerged structures in design stage. This approach is verified by experimental model and its measurement results.

In this study, the Rayleigh inextensional theory and extensional theory for thin shells was employed to predict the natural frequencies of the hemi-spherical shell with free and simply. supported boundary condition. The frequencies and mode shapes from theoretical calculation were compared with those of commercial finite element code, ANSYS. In order to validate the theory, modal test was also performed by impact test and FFT analysis. Modal test and FEM analysis of the free, simply supported and clamped boundary condition was also carried out.

Reverberation time is the well known theory and widely used in commercial apparatus to get reverberation time. However large fluctuation in low frequency region occurs in a small cabin due to superposition of a few modes. This paper investigates this phenomena in terms of modal density in frequency domain and suggests a method to get lower limit of reverberation time using the integration of the time-SPL diagram. The suggestion is confirmed by simulation and shows reasonable results to get lower limit of reverberation time and maximum absorbing power in the cabin.

This paper deals experimently with the difference between the cabins in ship-board and the reverberation chamber in sound transmission loss. Experimental results from the cabins show that there are various flanking transmission losses which deteriorate significantly the performance of the sound transmission loss. They also show that as a representative of the flanking transmission losses, sound leakages between a ceiling and a wall, the joints of the partitions, and the luminant devices play an important role. From the various measurements, it can be is concluded that unless one do not take any treatments on the flanking transmission loss, the field sound transmission loss will be considerably decreased by more than 10 dB, comparable to the sound transmission loss.

Statistical energy analysis is suitable for shipboard noise prediction in many respects. It could effectively model the large and complicated ship structures for noise analysis. This paper introduces the procedure of SEA for shipboard noise analysis gained from author's experiences in the past few years. Also, prediction accuracies of shipboard noise analysis using statistical energy analysis are discussed. It is found that the prediction results could be much improved when using the actual measured data of source levels and material properties such as loss factors, absorption coefficients and etc.

선박의 설계초기 단계에서 주요 진동특성인 주선체 및 상부구조의 고유 진동수와 고유 진동형을 구하게 위해서는 현재까지 주로 경험식에 의존하게 된다. 이들 경험식들은 만들어진 시기가 최소 20년 이상 씩 됨에 따라 이중선체 유조선, IMO의 visibility 규정의 강화에 따른 상부조 높이의 증가, 콘테이너 선의 초 대형화 경향과 같이 최근의 선박 변화가 제대로 반영되어 있지 못하기 때문에 최근 선박의 진동특성을 추정하는 데는 많은 오차를 유발할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 실적선들의 진동해석 및 계측 결과들을 정리하여 데이터베이스화하고 이들 자료들을 이용하여 회귀분석 방법에 의해 통계해석을 수행하므로써 설계 초기단계에서 선박의 진동 특성을 정도 높게 추정하는 방법을 개발하고 주기관 및 프로펠러 날개 수 선정에도 정확도를 기할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 본 방법을 바탕으로 windows환경의 전산프로그램으로 개발하여 사용자의 편의성을 크게 도모하였다. 본 방법의 타당성과 정도를 확인하기 위해 일련의 수치계산을 수행하여 계측치와의 부합성이 매우 양호함을 보였다.

The auxiliary engine exhaust noise in ships are directly transmitted to bridge wing with the only distance attenuation. It is not so practical that no special treatment can be applied between exhaust pipe and bridge wing in order to reduce the transmission of the exhaust noise. In general, a silencer is fitted to reduce the exhaust noise and also noise of bridge wing. The silencer should be properly designed under the consideration of the frequency component of the exhaust noise and the required insertion loss. In this paper, the frequency component of exhaust noise of various engines are compared and a design and a design and installation of silencer to reduce low frequency is introduced.

이 연구의 목적은 당사에서 제작한 멤브레인형
$130,000M^3$ 와$135,000M^3$ LNG 운반선의 진동특성을 파악하고, 거주구역의 진동수준을 예측하기 위함이다. 우선 공진 회피의 관점에서 최적의 프로펠러를 선택하기 위해 간단한 계산을 수행한 후, 주변 해수를 고려한 선박 전체를 모델링하여 3차원 유한요소해석을 수행한다. 이 계산은 보다 정확한 고유진동수를 결정하고, 프로펠러 기진의 주파수 범위에서 관련된 모드 형상을 결정하며, 선박 거주구에서 기대되는 진동수준은 잘 예측할 수 있다. 다음으로 선박이 진수되고 전체구조가 조립된 후 안벽에서 불평형 가진기를 이용해 가진기테스트를 실시하고, 해상시운전 중에도 동일한 방법으로 테스트를 실시한다. 시험은 고유진동수의 항으로 선박의 실제진동응답과 계산결과와의 좋은 비교를 가능하게 한다. 추가적으로 실제 엔진을 구동해 RPM을 최저에서 최고까지 천천히 변경하면서 실제 운항 중 진동응답을 계측함으로서 고유진동수를 예측하여 해석결과 및 가진기 시험결과와 비교한다. -
Vibration problem of deckhouse structure in a container vessel was investigated through the analysis and measurement. The natural frequency of deckhouse structure was found to be resonant with main engine 4th order excitations in the operating range, major sources of which were main engine inertial moment and axial thrust of the propulsion shafting system. To investigate and solve the problem, exciter test was performed to identify the vibration chracteristics of the ship structure and mechanical balancer was installed to compensate the 4th order inertial moment. Measurement results under the conditions with and without balancer operating were compared and analyzed to confirm the balancer effect. Good coincidence was found between the measurement and analysis results, which made it possible to predict the vibration problem in the earlier design stage.

The interest in evaluation of structural intensity arises for practical reasons, because net energy flow distribution offers information of energy transmission path, positions of sources, and sinks of vibration energy. In this paper, structural intensity analysis of local ship structures using finite element method(FEM) is carried out. The purpose of this analysis is to evaluate the relative accuracy according to mesh fineness. The structural intensity of a stiffened plate varying their mesh fineness is analyzed and the results are compared with those obtained by the assumed made method. As results, the proper mesh size in qualitative/quantitative structural intensity analysis of plate structures is proposed. In addition, the propagation phenomenon of vibration energy is investigated for the L-type plate and box-girder structures.

This experimental study is the improvement of running stability for freight car. KNR (Korean National Railroad)'s conventional wagons, light bodies running on Barber style bogies with 5-1/
$2{\times}10$ journals, would be considered fundamentally to be a most difficult car to control above 100km/h. From the results of experiment, to permit high speed operation safely, was realized with the resilient side bearing. Also, equipped with resilient side bearing, and elastowedge friction elements to eliminate bolster wedge pocket wear, KNR's wagons can be secure the running stability with lower maintenance requirements than current experience. -
Optimization of 26 design variables selected from suspension characteristics for Korean High Speed Train (KHST) is performed according to the minimization of 58 responses which represent running safety and ride comfort for KHST and analyzed by using the each response surface model from stochastic design experiments. Sensitivity of design variables is also analyzed through the response surface model which ineffective design prameters to the performance index are screened by using stepwise regression method. The response surface models are used for optimizing design variables through simplex algorism. Values of performance index simulated by optimized design parameters are totally lower than those by initial design parameters. It shows that this method is effective for optimizing multi-design variables to multi-object function.

This study have been performed to investigate the dynamic behavior of the Korean High Speed Train(KHST) during the conceptual design process. This study gets a focus on the analysis of the rigid model, for which the yaw damper layout is modified in a nonlinear limit cycle analysis. In this study, influences of the system parameters such as stiffness of suspension and connection elements as well as damping coefficients were studied and an optimized parameter set is achieved. Throughout the dynamic calculation of KHST on the straight and the curved track, vibration accelerations in car body, ride comforts and wheel rail forces are investigated. Finally the vibration characteristics from rigid car body are compared with those due to the influence of elastic car body.

The hall and the projection room of the multiplex cinema being constructed on the sixth and seventh floors at Jeonpo-dong market, Pusan, is composed of structural beams and decks considering the structures self weight problem, and the following problems are expected: - Vibration and noise generated on the floors by moving audiences may annoy the audiences in the other hall - Vibration and noise generate on the floor of the nearby hall as the audiences walk through the alley near the projection room - Vibration and noise generate on the floor of the hall nearby the projection room as the film drops This study measured and reviewed the vibration amount of the seven representative transferring routes that were selected for the halls and the alley near the projection room. Based on the analysis, the model hall was constructed and the vibration in the hall was estimated after cutting the deck. Also, this study constructed the steel stairs and investigated the vibration transferring characteristics to decide whether to construct the steel stairs in the building. Finally, the results were evaluated by actually using the stairs and reviewed the appropriateness of the measurement.

In this point, this study attempts to survey on the characteristics of piling vibration by SIP method for various earth conditions in construction field. And this study intends to get the basic data to establish a standard about construction vibration.

In this paper we present an overview of the factors and techniques that must be considered in vibration measurements in the floor structures for microelectronics facilities. Normally narrowband vibration spectrum or equivalent signals are suggested as the guide indexes of site vibration phenomina. But it cannot support perfect informations in designing vibration control systems for the vibration sensitive equipment even though the spectrum serves to illustrate the fact that most real vibration environments are dominated by broadband energy as opposed to tonal energy. The major topics cover stiffness in frequency and time domain, acceleration level and modal characteristics from experimental modal analysis as well as narrowband spectrum. The combined signal analysis through the items mentioned above can give better solutions and would be positively recomended to solve the vibration problems on a sort of limited field.

Noise and vibration generated at construction sites become serious issues because of bigger construction projects and growing use of heavy equipment. Especially in downtown construction, noise and vibration easily exceed the legal standards that can suffer the most of surrounding residents. The number of complaints by the residents who are exposed to the noise increases as their consciousness grows. However, the Korean regulations for the construction noise and vibration only present the overall limits for target areas and times zones, and this make it difficult to take effective measures. Also in rural area, disputes between construction sites and residents arise, but the dispute resolution or taking measures are difficult because clear standards concerning cause-and-effect, estimation of effective levels, calculation of damages, and future precautions and examples lack. This paper describes legal standards regarding the noise and vibration and presents judging standards for the physical damages. This paper also introduces example public complaints that happened at Daewoo construction sites to describe the problems in the existing law and further to enable smooth construction progresses by emphasizing the seriousness of public complaints.

In terms of vibration damage and the serviceability for occupants in buildings, the purpose of vibration study lies in the reduction of vibration damage. However, only when vibration level of buildings is available, measures of vibration control and base isolation can be taken. The purpose of this paper is to provide a fundamental analysis method to estimate structural vibration. After analysing by using two methods, infinite model, combination method, a comparison between analysed results and the results of previous studies was performed to prove the validity of the prediction on the vibration of building structure. Thus, if the material property of soil and quantity of load sources are known before construction being started, the vibration level could be predicted by using these methods.

This paper evaluates the serviceability of vibration that is induced by people's walking and running when the long span hollow core slab is used. The dynamic characteristics like a natural frequency and a ramping ratio are found by impact loading test on the mock-up structures. Also, the human induced loading test output is evaluated by the various serviceability criteria. As the various serviceability criteria satisfy with this result, the vibration problem of relevant slab caused by people's behavior does not matter.

This study aims to predict the particle size of blasted rock. For this purpose, Predicted particle sizes were compared with the measured particle sizes at the rock blasting sites, where various blasting patterns which controls the bench height, depth of blasted hole, burden, spacing etc were tested. the difference of mean fragment size between measured and predicted values was 0.11m.

For the accurate evaluations of influence of construction noise, it is necessary to investigate not only physical characteristics of construction noise but also the subjective psycho-acoustical respects of individual persons. To develope the effective evaluation procedures for construction noise, we investigated Korean vocabularies which can express the feelings for construction noise, and analyzed psychological factors influencing on the subjective feelings of persons, through a series of psycho-acoustical experiments to construction noise. As a result of, it was found that the construction noise sources including the six factors. And this study intends to get the basic data for the evaluations about construction noise.

One of the major differences of Korean residential building compared with other countries is a rigid diaphragm of a floor due to the panel heating system. An increment of a gravity floor load might cause vibration problem when the composite floor system is introduced to the panel heating system. Since the noise criteria of a residential building is lower than that of an office building, the development of a noise absorbing system should be preceded. The response evaluation was performed for the finished floor, that is with panel heating and noise absorbing system. The natural frequency was obtained both from an experimental study and an analytical study. An appropriate vibration condition of a floor with panel heating and noise absorbing systems was evaluated from this study.

This paper presents the system identification of a small-scale building model with an active mass driver and the controller design using Matlab program. As the AMD is a mechanical system which has a dynamic characteristic and whose mass can not be neglected compared to that of the building mass, the AMD-building interaction should be included in the controller design. The system identification is carried out for the AMD-building system with two acceleration inputs of the shaking table and the AMD and single acceleration output of the building. The mathematical model for the AMD-building is obtained and compared with the experimental result. The controller is designed based on the mathematical model using the optimal control algorithm of LQG strategy. The experimental results are compared with the numerical results. It is shown that both results are in good agreement in the system identification and the controlled responses.

This paper deals with an analysis and countermeasure of escalator vibration. The vibration characteristics of escalators are studied theoretically and experimentally to find the main cause of severe vibration. The main source of vibration in escalators is found to be chordal effect due to the step chain and sprocket system. It is also found that the vibration become significantly large at so called no load condition, in which the load due to passengers, during down-moving, is equal to the resistive force in the driving system. Dynamic absorbers are implemented to suppress the vibration. A theoretical analysis is made to determine the appropriate dynamic absorber. Theoretical and experimental study shows that dynamic absorber is effective to suppress the vibration in escalators.

This paper presents a dynamic model for escalators to be used for the analysis and design of low vibration escalators. The dynamic model is developed so as to reflect the physical observation on peculiar characteristics such as the difference between up moving and down moving, and the resonance affected by the load applied. For validation of the dynamic model developed, experimental results are compared with numerical results from the model. The numerical study shows that the developed model is useful for analysis and design of escalator systems.

The sound transmission from the machine room where air-conditioner outdoor unit is located into the adjacent room is predicted and evaluated. The software package for statistical energy analysis(SEA) is utilized to determine the transmission losses of multi-layerd panels. To determine the noise level in the machine room, ray tracing method is adopted. The various sound transmission paths have been effectively identified and evaluated by the SEA tool.

It is diffuse sound field that measuring condition of absorption ratio and sound transmission loss for material consist of building are measured in reverberartion room and on-site. In this study, for upkeeping diffuse sound field in reverberation room, it is measured and etimated that sound field is effected according to sound source lacation and characteristics of emission directivity for sound source.

This paper describes the characteristics of vibration of a hydraulic turbine mainly due to cavitation occurrence. The analysis of vibration spectra of the turbine shaft shows that hub vortex cavitation occurs in the downstream of the turbine runner, which is verified from coherence analysis between shaft vibration displacement and dynamic pressure at the draft tube. Even though acceleration level measured at the guide vane lever, which is usually used for evaluation of cavitations performance, is decreased during forced aeration, it is found from the analysis of dynamic pressure spectra that cavitation around runner blades still remains unchanged. It is also found that lateral vibration of the turbine shaft is mainly due to the hub vortex cavitation of the turbine runner.

In turbo-machines operated at high speeds through gear speed increasers a precise coupled analysis of lateral and torsional vibrations is required to achieve highly reliable designs with low vibration and low noise levels, where the vibration coupling is due to the gear pair mesh stiffness. In this paper, applying the generalized coupled lateral-torsional finite element model of a gear pair element, has been analyzed a coupled lateral-torsional vibration of the prototype 800 RT turbo-chiller rotor-bearing system with a bull-pinion gear speed increaser. Results have shown that the coupled torsional natural frequencies have decreased due to the coupling effect of lateral vibration and particularly, the 2nd torsional natural frequency and its mode shape have had big changes. However, changes of lateral vibration characteristics have been noticed only at high lateral whirl natural frequencies above 15,000 rpm.

This paper presents results of coupled axial and torsional vibration analysis of shafting system in large diesel engines and generators for stationary power plants. Axial vibration of the shafting system takes place due to mainly torsional deformation or vibration and breathing effect of crank throws, caused by cylinder gas forces and reciprocating inertia of the engine. Cross-coupled stiffness matrix of the crank throws is calculated employing a finite element model of the crank throw and a static condensation method. Forced response analysis of the shafting system is performed using the calculated stiffness matrix and derived governing equations.

The necessity of diagnosis of the rotating machinery which is widely used in the industry is increasing. If rotating machinery has fault, we can detect fault using vibration or noise. But, in diagnosing rotating machinery, the end user who doesn't have expert knowledge needs the help of vibration diagnosis expert. However, vibration diagnosis experts who well satisfy the demand of end user are rare. So, this paper propose a development of the case-based reasoning system for abnormal vibration diagnosis of rotating machinery we construct the past experiences of vibration diagnosis expert into case base and shear the experiences of diagnosis expert with the end user. In this paper, we describe that process of structured system and adapting result of abnormal vibration diagnosis of electric motor.

A projected 100 kW APU gas turbine rotor-bearing system has a main outer shaft, which is composed of some numbers of segmented sections for manufacturing and assembly conveniences. For a secure assembly of the segmented sections a tie shaft or inner shaft is installed inside of the outer shaft and a tensional axial preload of 50,000 N is provided to it. In this paper it is intended to set-up a sound modeling method of the APU rotor system, and particularly, the influences of the tie shaft on the rotordynamic characteristics of the entire APU gas turbine rotor-bearing system are investigated. Analysis results show that as a conservative design practice the inner tie shaft should be actively modeled in the rotordynamic analysis of the APU rotor-bearing system, and its effects on the dynamic behaviors of the outer shaft should be thoroughly design-reviewed.

The analysis of dynamic behaviour of rotor system for the rolling piston type rotary compressor considering hydrodynamic force between motor rotor and stator is presented. In addition to considering other dynamic, loads such as large unbalance forces, gas force and bearing force, we consider the hydrodynamic force induced by the compressed fluid flow through the air gap between motor rotor and stator, and improve the analysis of vibration in rotary compressor. The Childs' method which based on Bulk-now and Hirs' turbulent lubrication model is used to calculate the rotordynamic coefficients due to hydrodynamic force of annular clearance in motor air gap.

High speed rotor test rig was developed for flexible rotor systems which have its bending critical speed at 14000 rpm. In designing the flexible rotor systems, operating speed have to be escaped from the critical speed, due to large vibration. In this paper, dynamic characteristics of the rotor systems were analyzed and compared with test results. And the effect of allison ring damper and rotor balancing were examined both theoretically and experimentally. Finally, the magnitude of vibration was largely reduced at the critical speed.

Recently, several attempts have been made to apply high Tc superconductor bearings of thrust type to flywheel energy storage system (FESS) throughout the world. Radial type superconductor bearings, however, have never been tried to the real FESS. KEPRI has developed its own radial type bearings and is now currently applying them to a FESS designed by KIMM, for the first time. In this paper preliminary test results of bearing performance and dynamic behavior of the flywheel rotor system mounted on them are presented. The dynamic properties, i.e, stiffness and damping, of the superconductor bearings were experimentally estimated using the static loading test as well as the impact test. The test revealed that stiffness value of the present superconductor bearings is about 67,700N/m and the damping value 29Ns/m. It was also found out that these bearings have some levitation drift problems due to excessive vibrations encountered while passing through the critical speeds. With recommend backup bearings to limit the vibration amplitudes of the rotor it is predicted that the flywheel rotor will show stable operations in the design speed range.

A high speed rotor balancing machine was developed, which is capable of balancing a flexible rotor in high speed. The machine is largely consisted of vacuum chamber, oil supply system and vacuum pump system. And, in order to investigate performances of the machine, various tests were carried. After high speed rotor balancing of gas turbine engine rotor using influence coefficient method, the flexible engine rotor passed smoothly through its critical speed.

The basic equations are derived for the analysis of a stepped labyrinth gas seal which are generally used in high performance compressors, gas turbines, and steam turbines. The Bulk-flow is assumed for a single cavity control volume and the flow is assumed to be completely turbulent in circumferential direction. Moody's wall-friction-factor formula is used for the calculation of wall shear stresses in the single cavity control volume. For the reaction force developed by the seal, linearized zeroth-order and first-order perturbation equations are developed for small motion about a centered position. Integration of the resultant first-order pressure distribution along and around the seal defines the rotordynamic coefficients of the stepped labyrinth gas seal. The leakage and rotordynamic characteristic results of the stepped labyrinth gas seal are presented and compared with Scharrer's theoretical analysis using Blasius' wall-friction-factor formula.

발전기에 직류 전압을 인가하는 여자제어 시스템(exciter)은 여자 방식에 따라 간접 여자 방식과 직접 여자 방식으로 분류할 수 있다. 그러나 여자제어 시스템의 세계적인 추세는 직접 여자 방식을 채택하고 있으며, 기존의 설치된 간접 여자 방식도 직접 여자 방식으로의 교체를 추진하고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문에는 500 MW 발전기의 간접 여자제어 시스템을 직접 여자제어 시스템으로의 교체를 위해 수행된 축계 진동해석과 설계 검토 사례를 소개코자 한다. Steady 베어링의 설치 여부를 위한 설계 기준은 축계 진동해석 결과에 바탕을 두고 있으며 steady 베어링의 선정에는 안정성을 이유로 tilting pad 베어링을 선택하였다. 해석 결과를 바탕으로 실제 축계를 설계, 제작하여 운전한 결과 양호한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

In machine tools, often a gearbox is installed to control the rotating speed of spindle, which sometimes generates problems of noise and vibration due to errors in tooth-meshing. In this study, the characteristics of, noise and vibration of given gearbox for a machine tool are analyzed experimentally. From the measurement, it was observed that the tooth-meshing component of the sound pressure level from the gearbox took its maximum at a specific operational speed. Therefore, the main content of this study is to investigate the reason why the above mentioned characteristics are observed. By investigating the natural frequencies of the components in gearbox, it was found that the natural frequencies of the rotating gear-shaft and gearbox for twisting mode were closely related to the first and second peak of sound pressure levels respectively. Thereform, in this study, those relations were identified by the impact test of rotating gear-shaft and-gearbox. In addition, we inserted the rubber between housing and bed, and analyze the effect of the rubber insertion on noise reduction by Operational Deflection Shapes.

The signals that can be obtained from a rotating machine often convey the information of machine. For example, if the machine under investigation has faults, then we can measure the signal which has a pulse train, embedded in noise. Therefore the ability to detect the fault signal in noise determines the degree of diagnosis level of rotating machine. In this paper, minimum variance cepstrum (MV cepstrum), which can easily detect impulse in noise, has been applied to detect the type of faults of ball bearing system. To test the performance of this technique, experiment has been performed for ball bearing elements that have man made faults. Results show that minimum variance cepstrum can easily detect the periodicity due to faults.

A condition monitoring methodology for rotating machinery is proposed based on multivariate statistical analysis. The CMS usually are using the vibration signal amplitude such as acceleration RMS, peak and velocity RMS to detect machine faults but the information is not so enough that CMS cannot perform reliable monitoring. So new parameters are added such as shape factor, crest factor, kurtosis and skewness as time domain parameters and spectrum amplitude of rotating frequency,
$2^{nd}$ harmonics and gear mesh frequency etc. as frequency domain parameters. Many parameters are combined to represent the machine state using the Hotelling's$T^2$ statistics. The proposed methodology is tested in laboratory and the on-line experiment has shown that the proposed methodology offers a reliable monitoring for rotating machinery. -
Impulsive sound and vibration signals in gear are often associated with their faults. Thus these impulsive sound and vibration signals can be used as indicators in the diagnosis of gear fault. The early detection of impulsive signal due to gear fault prevents from complete failure in gear. However it is often difficult to make objective measurement of impulsive signals because of background noise signals. In order to ease the detection of impulsive signals embedded in background noise, we enhance the impulsive signals using adaptive signal processing.

This paper is concerned with the design and application of an Electro-Rheological(ER) fluid damper to suppress the vibration of a rotor system. The system is flexible with a slender shaft and a thin disk, being supported by two ball bearings. In addition, to investigate the system performances also in the high speed range, the driving torque is made transmit through a speed increasing gear train. Along with the experiments, to predict and compare the ER damper effect, the rotor system is simulated as to its free and forced vibration characteristics by means of a finite element method code, which is assembled with the mathematical model of the designed ER damper.

Impulsive acoustic and vibration signals within rotating machinery are often induced by irregular impacting. The detection of these impulses can be useful for fault diagnosis purposes. Recently there has been an increasing trend towards the use of higher order statistics for fault detection within mechanical systems based on the observation that impulsive signals tend to increase the kurtosis values. This paper considers the use of the third and fourth order Wigner moment spectra, called the Wigner bi- and tri- spectra receptively, for analysing such signals. Expressions for the auto-and cross-terms in these distributions are presented and discussed. It is shown that the Wigner trispectrum is a more suitable analysis tool and it performance is compared to its second order counterpart for detecting impulsive signals. These methods are also applied to measured data sets from an industrial gearbox.

This paper describes a signal recognition method for diagnosing the rotating machinery using wavelet-aided Self-Organizing Feature Map(SOFM). The SOFM specialized from neural network is a new and effective algorithm for interpreting large and complex data sets. It converts high-dimensional data items into simple order relationships with low dimension. Additionally the Learning Vector Quantization(LVQ) is used for reducing the error from SOFM. Multi-resolution and wavelet transform are used to extract salient features from the primary vibration signals. Since it decomposes the raw timebase signal into two respective parts in the time space and frequency domain, it does not lose either information unlike Fourier transform. This paper is focused on the development of advanced signal classifier in order to automatize vibration signal pattern recognition. This method is verified by the experiment and several abnormal vibrations such as unbalance and rubbing are classified with high flexibility and reliability by the proposed methods.

The frequencies of principal noise in interior permanent motor originate form two sources. One is torque ripple that is composed of cogging torque, magnetic torque ripple and reluctance torque ripple. The other is induced by natural frequencies. In this paper, the torque ripple and its influence on noise was examined by theoretical analysis. Understanding relation of dynamic characteristics and noise, natural frequencies and mode shapes were obtained by experimentation and operational deflection shape was observed. Finally, the method of predicting frequencies of principal noise was proposed.

All critical equipment installed aboard naval ships and submarines is required to be shock-qualified by tests on the MIL-S-901 shock test machines where testing is practical. The intent of the shock requirements is to produce combat vessels which are resistant to the underwater explosion weapon attack. To efficiently design equipment for passing a series of shock tests, the shock environment of the shock test machine should be clearly identified. In this paper, the shock characteristics of the MIL-S-901 Medium Weight Shock Machine(MWSM) are reviewed, based on the existing test data. An analytical model for the MWSM is also discussed.

This paper reports the development of a special impact fatigue test machine for high pressure vessels. The targeted vessels are subjected to shock pressures equivalent of explosions. This severe loading condition brings many difficulties to the design of test machine. Unfortunately, there are very rare such test machine in the world, and more worse, the machine is not opened and sold.

The tenn "Pyrotechnic Shock" or "Pyroshock" is used to describe short duration, high amplitude and high frequency transient structural responses in aerospace vehicle structures..The transients are generally initiated by firing of an ordnance item to separate or release a structural member of fastener. The objective of this paper is to present a set of pyrotechnic shock environment information - specific characteristics induced by many separation devices, prediction, testing, measurement and analysis methods of pyroshock environment. In addition, it is introduced the application of pyrotechnic shock test in Korean aerospace development program.

최근에 미국에서는 실선에 대한 충격파 실험의 제약으로 인하여 수치시뮬레이션의 필요성이 더욱 야기되어 1996년도부터 수상함에 대한 실험대체용 수치계산의 가능성에 대한 연구가 시작되었다. 잠수함등과 같이 잠겨진 구조물에 대한 연구는 활발히 이루어졌으나 수상함에 대한 연구는 단순구조물을 대상으로 한 제한적 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 특히 본 연구에서는 아주 복잡한 수상함 구조물을 최대한 정확히 유한요소법으로 모델링하였다. 이러한 실선 충격연구는 실제 실선에 마운트되는 주요 장비의 안정성평가에 아주 중요한 자료를 제공하여주므로 시급한 과제이다. 하지만 수상함의 경우 유체-구조물 상호작용, 자유표면, cavitation등과 같은 해석상의 어려움과 복잡한 구조물의 모델링시 나타나는 현 단계에서의 계산상의 한계 등등 여러 가지 난제가 존재하고 있는 것도 사실이다. 본 논문에서는 수상함 내충격 수치해석의 현기술을 알아보고 수치계산의 발전방향을 제시보고자 한다.

In recent years, the structural shock response to underwater explosion has been studied as much, or more, through numerical simulations than through testing for several reasons. Very high costs and sensitive environmental concerns have kept destructive underwater explosion testing to a minimum. Increase of simulation capabilities and sophisticated simulation tools has made numerical simulations more efficient analysis methods as well as more reliable testing aids. For the simulation of underwater explosions against, surface ships or submerged structures one has to include the effects of the explosive shock wave, the motion of the gaseous reactive products, the local cavitation collapse, the different nonlinear structural properties and the complex fluid-structure interaction phenomena. In this study, as benchmark step for the validation of hydrocode LS/DYNA3D and of technology of fluid-structure interaction problems, two kinds of cavitation problems are analyzed and structural shock response of floating ship model are compared with experimental result.

The dynamic design analysis method (DDAM) to analyze and evaluate shock response of the equipment system mounted in ships are discussed. Theoretical background of the DDAM based on the general shock response analysis was introduced. Spectrum dip effect between the equipment system and supporting structure was specially focused being peculiar to general shock response analysis. Actual shock design values used in the DDAM were reviewed in their category, general trend and establishing process. Aspects of DDAM analysis using MSC/NASTRAN were shortened. As a conclusion DDAM is regarded as a reasonable way of analysis for the onboard equipment system due to the underwater shock.

In general, the strength of hull structures can be estimated from stress evaluation considering static and hydro-dynamic load due to sea-wave. However, war ships such as submarine, have frequently experienced the underwater explosion and local structures of ship as well as hull girder can be damaged by the dynamic response excited from underwater non-contact explosion. When explosion happens at underwater, shock wave is radiated In early short time, then gas bubbles are generated, and expansion and contraction are repeated as they float to the surface. The shock wave causes the damage of equipment and its supporting structures, on the other hand, the hull girder strength can be lost by resonance between bubble pulsation and lowest ship natural vibration period. In this paper, the hydro-Impulse force due to bubble was calculated. Based on these results the hull girder strength of submarine was estimated from transient response analysis by using NASTRAN. Also, shock analysis for some equipment supporting structures was carried out by using DDAM. In order to evaluate the strength of these local structures due to shock wave.

발전소의 배관계에는 열변형은 허용하되 진동으로 인해 발생하는 응력을 줄이고 과도한 진동 작용시 배관계를 보호하기 위하여 유압식 또는 기계석 snubber가 설치되어 있다. 그러나 이들은 누유 가능성 및 사용수명 측면에서 보수 유지에 많은 경비가 소요된다. 최근 wire rope를 이용한 진동완충기가 도입되어 배관진동 완화에 매우 효과적임이 입증되었고 보수유지가 거의 필요없으므로 경제성도 높으나 고가의 수입가격으로 인해 국산화의 필요성이 절실하다.

In this study, a nonlinear aeroelastic analysis system for the fighter wing with tip-store has been developed additionally in the transonic and supersonic flow region. The unsteady CFD code based on the transonic small disturbance theory has been incorporated to consider the numerical capability for the aerodynamic nonlinear effects. The coupled time-integration method is used to observe the detailed nonlinear aeroelastic responses for elastic wings in their flight. condition. A conservative wing-box model of a fighter wing with tip-store is modeled by MSC/PATRAN and the corresponding free vibration analysis has been performed by MSC/NASTRAN. The results of flutter analyses are presented in the subsonic, transonic and supersonic flow regime.

Many analytical and experimental studies on the active suppression of nonlinear panel flutter by using piezoceramic patch have been carried out. However, these active control methods have a few important problems; a large amount of power is required to operate actuators, and additional apparatuses such as sensor systems and controller are needed. In this study passive suppression schemes for nonlinear flutter of composite panel, which is believed to be more robust suppression system than active control in practical operation, are proposed by using piezoelectric inductor-resistor series shunt circuit. Toward the end, a finite element equation of motion for an electromechanically coupled system is proposed using the Hamilton's principle. To achieve the best damping effect, optimal shape and location of the piezoceramic(PZT) patches are determined by using genetic algorithms. The results clearly demonstrate that the passive damping scheme by using piezoelectric shunt circuit can effectively attenuate the flutter.

일반적인 형태의 동적 시스템에 가해지는 외란이 유색잡음이며, 외란의 형태가 시간에 따라 불규칙하게 변할 때와 감쇠계수와 강성계수가 시간에 따라 불규칙하게 변할 때의 그 확률 시스템의 특성과 제어기법에 대하여 연구하였다. 고려된 물리적인 모델은 불규칙한 대기교란을 받는 항공익으로써 이는 "시변계"가 되며 그 지배방정식이 확률론적 관점에서 F-P-K 접근법으로 유도되었으며, "유색잡음용 허-확률제어기"의 효과를 확률 영역 및 시간영역에서 고찰하였다. 또한 확률론적 플러터경계에 대해서도 고찰하였다.

Thermally induced vibration response of composite thin walled beams is investigated. The thin-walled beam model incorporates a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear, primary and secondary warping, 'rotary inertia' and anisotropy of constituent materials. Thermally induced vibration response characteristics of a composite thin walled beam exhibiting the circumferentially uniform system(CUS) configuration are exploited in connection with the structural coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials and from ply stacking sequence. A coupled thermal structure analysis that includes the effects of structural deformations on heating and temperature gradient is investigated.

The optimization study are carried out for helicopter rotor blades with composite box-beam spar. The objective function is to minimize the weight of rotor blades subject to frequency, aeroelastic stability and failure constraints. Design variables include the number of ply and ply angles of the laminated walls. The beam model of a hinge less rotor blade is based on a large deflection beam theory to describe the arbitrary large deflections and rotations. The p-k method and unsteady two dimensional strip theory are used to calculate aeroelastic stability boundary.

A new planform of a wing having two sweep angles is proposed to enhance the aeroelastic stability of a swept-forward wing. The double-swept wing has two sweep angles with inboard wing swept-back and outboard wing swept-forward. Aeroelastic analysis is performed with the finite element method to model wing structure and the doublet point method to predict aerodynamic loads. The sweep angle of the inboard wing is varied in this analysis while the outboard wing is swept forward to a pre-selected amount. The results show that the aeroelastic stability can be drastically enhanced by adjusting the sweep angle of the inboard wing. The effect of the fiber orientation in the double-swept composite wing is studied and the proper ply angle is identified to maximize critical speed.

KOMPSAT-1(Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite), which opened the space era in Korean peninsula, was developed from 1994 and launched successfully in December of 1999 at VAFB, USA. This paper presents a launch environment test of KOMPSAT and a short description of environment test facilities at Korea Aerospace Research Institute as well. The launch environment tests of KOMPSAT-1 satellite, such as vibration, acoustic, pyro-shock and mass properties measurement test, were performed during its system integration and test period. The participating engineers concluded that KOMPSAT-1 satellite would withstand environment during its launch period.

A Spacecraft container must afford the satellite a relatively benign thermal, vibration, and particle environment that is oblivious to the extreme temperatures, sand, dust, vibrations and shocks that can accompany the transportation. This paper discusses the extensive yet simple vibration test and validation of one such spacecraft container used for KOMPSA T-1 spacecraft, which was transported from KARl Taejon, Korea to Vandenberg Air Force Base(VAFB) on September 30 and launched successfully December 21, 1999. The test results are presented and compared with the design requirement. The dynamic characteristics of shipping container, such as natural frequencies, satisfied the design requirement and showed that shipping container was well. designed and manufactured. This kind of know-how will help to develop the next generation of Korean space program, such as KOMPSAT-2 and Korean tele-communication satellite.

High level random vibration environments induced while launching of spacecraft can damage sensitive electronic equipment very rapidly, unless the equipment is properly packaged. Thus very careful consideration on the launch environment, especially for high level random vibration, is required in the design stage of electronic equipment of spacecraft. This paper describes the development process of Solar Array Regulator for KOMPAT-2, which is designed and tested by Korean engineers. Both analytical and experimental techniques are introduced in this paper.

Koreasat-3 was successfully launched by an Ariane IV launch vehicle on September 5, 1999. Although the primary purpose of the satellite is to replace Koreasat-l, it also can extend its communication service coverage over the Asia-Pacific region. A spacecraft is subjected to severe dynamic loads during launch period. To verify the safety of spacecraft under the launch environment, dynamic tests should be performed such as sine sweep, acoustic and separation shock tests. This paper presents the launch environment test results of Koreasat-3. A total of 188 acceleration responses was measured and compared with the design requirements of components and spacecraft. Dynamic characteristic change was also investigated by comparing between low-level pre/post vibration results. From the review of test results, it is concluded that Koreasat-3 was designed and manufactured with the margin of safety enough to survive the launch loads of Ariane IV.

외부에서 자극이 가해질 때 상전이(phase transformations)하는 방식으로 대응하는 재료들이 최근 다양하게 연구되고 있다. 예를 들어 형상기억합금은 주변 온도의 변화에 대응하여 그 형상을 변화시키는데 이 과정은 미시적으로는 격자의 형태가 - 예를 들면 정방형 격자에서 입방형격자로 혹은 그 반대로 - 변화하는 과정이다. 강유전체 역시 외부에서 인가되는 전계의 변화에 대응하여 그 격자구조가 변하는데 그와 함께 기계적 변형이 동반하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 상전이를 하는 재료에 적용될 수 있는 1차원 구성방정식을 강유전체의 예를 들어 제시하고 간단한 계산결과를 보이기로 한다. 본 모델을 확장하여 강유전체에서의 분극역전(polarization reversals)에 대한 3차원 유한요소 모델을 개발하고 응용하려는 시도가 이루어지고 있다.

본, 논문에서는 카본/에폭시, PZT 세라믹 박판, 글래스/에폭시 층으로 이루어진 곡면형 복합재료 작동기(LIPCA)의 설계, 제작 및 성능실험에 대한 연구 성과를 제시하고 있다. LIPCA의 큰 요점은 기존 THUNDER의 성능을 유지하면서 이를 경량화 하기 위하여 THUNDER의 금속 층을 상대적으로 가벼운 섬유 강화 복합재료로 대체하는 것이다. 이러한 경량화 작업으로 LIPCA는 기존 THUNDER 보다 약
$30{\sim}40%$ 정도의 무게를 감소시킬 수 있으며, 복합재료의 특성에 따라 설계의 유연성을 가질 수 있는 장점이 있다. 또한, 에폭시 수지를 사용함으로써 접착제 없이 평판 몰드에서 오토클레이브에서$177^{\circ}C$ 로 경화되어, 탈형된 후 충분한 곡률을 형성하였다. 작동 성능 실험에서, LIPCA는 기존 THUNDER보다 작동변위가 향상됨을 보였다. -
A new concept of piezoelectric smart panels for noise reduction in wide band frequencies is proposed and their possibility is experimentally investigated. The proposed panels are based on active and passive methods. They use piezoelectric smart structure technology for active noise reduction at low band frequencies and passive sound absorbing materials for mid-range of noise frequencies. To prove the concept of piezoelectric smart panels, an acoustic measurement experiment was performed. The smart panels exhibit a good noise reduction in middle and high frequency ranges due to the mass effects of absorbing materials or/and the air gap. The use of piezoelectric smart panel renders noise reduction large at resonance frequency. Another concept of smart panel that uses piezoelectric damping is experimentally investigated. Since piezoelectric dampings can reduce vibration and noise at resonance frequencies with simple shunt circuit, they have merits in terms of economy and simplicity. Dissipated energy method(DEM) is adopted to tune the shunt circuit precisely in piezoelectric dampings. Noise reduction at multiple resonance frequencies is demonstrated.

The paper deals with a theoretical study on the vibrational characteristics of piezoelectric torsional transducers. The differential equations of piezoelectric torsional motion have been derived in terms of the circumferential displacement and the electric potential. Applying mechanical and electrical boundary conditions has yielded the characteristic equations of natural vibration in several transducer types. Numerical results have clarified the effect of the piezoelectric phenomenon on the mechanical resonance and the effect of the elastic block of a Langevin-type transducer on the natural frequency.

A new electro-rheological squeeze film damper (ER SFD) has been sealed with slotted piston rings which have electrodes at the inside of the constant gap. The slotted ER SFD can prevent the problem of electric discharge which might be occurred in the previous configuration of an ER SFD. The current paper presents the extraction of linearized dynamic coefficients within small orbit where these coefficients are controlled by the application of electric strength. Test rig has been modified to isolate the damper section for dynamic coefficient extraction. The results show that rotordynamic coefficients, damping and inertia terms, increase with increasing supply voltages, while stiffness coefficients decrease with increasing supply voltages. Rotating speed of rigid Shaft does not affect these coefficients.

외부로부터 불규칙 교란을 받는 동력학계에 대해 '허-확률 제어기법'을 이용하여 설계된 제어기의 성능을 수치모사를 통하여 검증하였다. 압전소자를 알루미늄 보에 부착하여 다중입출력의 복합재료보로 만들고, 기반에 불규칙한 외부교란을 받는계에 대한 모델링을 수행하였으며, Ito의 확률미분방정식과 F-P-K방정식을 이용하여 동적 모멘트 방정식을 유도하여 시스템의 확률영역에서의 특성을 알아보았다. 본 연구에서 제어기의 목표는 외부교란의 입력에 의해 발생하는 시스템의 모멘트 응답크기를 줄이는 방향으로 전개하였고, 확률영역에서의 MIMO PI제어기('허-확률 MIMO PI 제어기')를 설계하여 시간영역에서의 응답형태를 관찰하였다.

Electrorheological(HER) and magnetorheologica(MR) fluids have a unique ability to increase the dynamic yield stress of the fluid substantially when electric or magnetic field is applied. ER and MR fluid-based dampers are typically analyzed using Bingham-plastic shear flow analysis under Quasi-steady fully developed flow conditions. An alternative perspective, supported by measurements reported in the literature, is to allow for post-yield shear thinning and shear thickening. To model these, the constant post-yield plastic viscosity in Bingham model can be replaced with a power-law model dependent on shear strain rate that is known as the Herschel-Bulkley fluid model. The objective of this paper is to predict the damping forces analytically in a typical ER bypass damper for variable electric field, or yield stress using Herschel-Bulkley analysis.

GPS carrier phase is supposed to provide the tool for the most precise 3 dimensional positioning information. The FAST, an OTF technique, has been developed by the GPS System Laboratory of Konkuk University, and has been shown several millimeter level accuracy in root-mean-square sense. This OTF's high precision positioning capability provides an adequate tool of low frequency vibration monitoring of large structures. In this paper, the possibility of vibration measurement of a cantilever beam using FAST has been tested, which is supposed to be extended to more practical applications. The results of the experiment have been compared with those by a strain gage and laser sensor.

In this study, shape memory alloy(SMA) wires and piezoceramic actuators(PZT's) are employed in order to generate higher modes on the beam deformations. Compressive force is generated and applied to the beam by the pre-strained SMA wires attached at both ends of the beam. PZT's apply concentrated moments to several locations on the beam. Combinations of the compressive force and concentrated moments are investigated in order to understand the higher-mode deformation of beams. The first desired mode shape is obtained by controlling the temperature of the SMA wires. The first and third mode shapes are performed experimentally by heating SMA wires up to phase transformation temperature. The adaptive wing is defined as a wing whose shape parameters such as the camber, wing twist and thickness can be varied in order to change the wing shape for various flight conditions. In this research, control of the camber has been studied. The wing model consists of three plates and many ribs. Two of the plates are placed parallel to each other and they are clamped at one edge. Third plate connects the other edges of the parallel plates together. Each rib is made of SMA wire and connected to the parallel plates. It generates concentrated force and applies to the plates in oblique directions. The PZT's are bonded onto the plates and exert concentrated moments upon the plate at several locations. The object of this research is to generate various shape of wing by combining the concentrated forces and moments.

This paper is concerned with the making of smart structrures by means of piezoceramic wafers and its performance tests. It is also concerned with the implementation of the PPF controller by using the quad operational amplifier, which includes the charge and bridge amplifiers. The problems regarding the implementation of the piezoceramic sensors and actuators are discussed. The experimental process for smart structures is explained in detail. The technology demonstration which can show the effectiveness of smart structure technology is built up. Experimental results will follow.

Ultrasonic motors have an advantage over conventional electro-magnetic motors because of its excellent characteristics, such as high torque, low speed output, compact size, excellent controllability and, above of all, quite operation. The principle of operation of ultrasonic motors is to generate gross mechanical motion through the amplification and repetition of micro-deformations of active materials. A brief description of working principle and methods of analysis of dynamic behaviors of ultrasonic motors are given for the extended research and development activities anticipated in the mechanical engineering community.

The flexural vibration of laminated composite beams with active and passive constrained-layer damping has been investigated to design structure with maximum possible damping capacity. The equations of motion are derived for flexural vibrations of symmetrical, multi-layer laminated beams. The damping ratio and modal damping of the first bending mode are calculated by means of iterative complex eigensolution method. This paper addresses a design strategy of laminated composite under flexural vibrations with active control.

This paper deals with an application of Magneto-Rheological (MR) fluid to a small size mount for precision equipment of automobiles. MR fluid is known as a class of functional fluids with controllable apparent viscosity of fluid by the applied magnetic field strength. A typical MR fluid is a suspension where pure iron particles of
$1{\sim}20mm$ in diameter are dispersed in a liquid such as mineral oil or silicone oil, at the concentration of$20{\sim}40$ vol%. Electro magnetic coil is installed at the bottom of a variable-damping mount filled with MR fluid, and its performance was investigated experimentally. Furthermore, the properties of the MR Mount on experimental Study were explained analytically by mechanical model of the MR mount. -
With rapidly industrial development, a railway has become of a main traffic means. But, the railway noise has caused much annoyance for the residents living nearby railway tracks. Therefore, in our country, for established of Quite dwelling environment, execute regulation standard of railway noise from January 1, 2000. Efficiency soundproofing measures, however, are very difficult because of the lack of basic data and insufficiency of the existing research. In this point, this study attempts to survey the characteristics of attenuation and propagation of railway noise in by existence of noise barrier. And this study intends to get the basic data for establishment of a standard about railway noise.

철도 소음에 의한 환경문제가 증가하고 있으나 방음대책으로는 아직까지 방음벽을 철도 연변에 설치하는 것인데 이러한 방음벽은 주위 경관과의 부조화와 열차승객의 시아방해 등으로 높이에 제한을 받는다. 높이를 높이지 않고도 저감효과를 얻을 수 있는 방음벽과 상단형상의 개발이 중요한 연구과제로 대두되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 철도연변에 설치되는 방음벽의 종류별로 삽입손실을 ISO 10847에 근거하여 측정하였으며 그 결과를 상호 비교 분석 평가하였다.

In this study, the insertion losses of various track-side railway noise barriers are analyzed by using a two-dimensional numerical boundary element method(BEM). The BEM is implemented using two out-of-phase monopole sources for each track to represent dipole source. All model for this study is based on actual size built in Test Line of KTX. And the results suggest that vertical absorptive barrier provide as effective screening as rigid barrier which is more 0.4 m than the height of those.

KHST project plans to design and to build an high speed train. There are noise requirements in passenger room for the standing and running train, which should be reached. Noise prognosises are calculated for the standing and running TM5(Motorized car) and TT4(Trailer car) train (v=300km/h) to find out critical areas in or around the train. On those areas, actions of noise reduction are proposed to reach the requirements. Finally noise prognosises are calculated for the higher velocity of v=350km/h.

Recently, many new constructuion and large scale modification of railway are performed for cost down of goods delivery charge and effective transportation in various aspect. Although railway traffic is environmentally frendly in many part but weak in noise and vibration problem. For the reduction and efficient management of railway noise, first of all prediction of railway noise is necessarily requisted. In domestic and abroad many studies for prediction of railway nearby noise are done. In this study simple modelling technique is investigated for railway noise prediction when railway passes above elevated concrete bridge as well as ground. Predicted results are compared with measured results and it is known that suggested modelling technique can be used for more precise prediction of railway nearby noise.

Vibration caused by railroad vehicle including subway train running raises a lot of problems to the neighboring buildings. Therefore lots of methods to isolate the railway vibration have been studied and practically applied to sites. As one of them, specially designed vibration isolation device was installed in the some section of Seoul subway. This device is installed between the rail and track slab. Because the process of installation is relatively simple, this method can be applied to the existing railways in servicing. We measured the vibration and noise to check the effectiveness of this device before and after the installation. The result showed that the vibration level of the slab and platform was reduced to 7 - 10 dB. Expecially high frequency component was reduced to a large amount. From this result, we can conclude that these kind of devices are useful to the reduction of the railroad vibration, expecially the high frequency vibration which can cause structure born noise.

In this paper, a guideline of axial flow fan design for noise reduction of refrigerators is p resented. Refrigerators have components which have a role to screen particular frequency air borne-noise which is generated by an axial flow fan set in them. Effective ways to use the particular characteristic of refrigerators are shown in this study. As a result of application of the methods, we reduced the noise of the target systems by more than 3 dB(A) from the viewpoint of air-borne noise produced by the axial flow fan set.

This paper presents a new prediction method of radiated noise from grille of the airconditioning appliance. Laminar vortex sheddings behind a circular cylinder are simulated by solving two dimensional unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equation. The Finite Elements Method(FEM) and unstructured grid generation technique are applied to solve, the unsteady lift/drag coefficients are obtained to compute far-field noise using Lighthill's acoustic analogy. Grille is divided into some cylinder segments, and radiated noise from grille is obtained by summing noise generated from each segment. The effects of changing cross section of cylinder and grille geometry are studied. And sound pressure levels radiated from typical H-type grille are measured in KAIST anechoic wind tunnel at various inflow conditions and compared with numerical predictions.

The electro-magnetic noise generated from fan-driving motor is one of important items in view of abnormal noise which affect the quality of air conditioner noise. The electro-magnetic noise of the outdoor unit is identified by the serial experiments for related parts, whose effects are verified to give proper measures for reduced noise level. The weight of fan appears to be the most important factor, and the stiffness of the frame, such as motor bracket is shown to be important also.

This paper introduces the experimental analysis of the resonator in the rolling piston type compressor for air conditioner. The resonator located between cylinder and bearing is a major factor in the noise reduction of the rotary compressor. Several shapes for the resonator which can be built in the space limitations are derived. Then optimal resonator type for the noise reduction is determined by noise tests. 6 design parameters of the type are found and optimal level for each design factor is deduced from Taguchi method.

The cross-flow fans have been widely used to constitute the air moving systems in many air-ventilating and air-conditioning devices. The cross-flow fan system has many design parameters which have crucial influence on the performance and the noise characteristics of the devices. As a result, there are many difficulties in the design stage of the devices and the general design guide has not been sufficiently established yet. This study presents the experimental results of the parametric investigation of some chosen design parameters, which are the shape of the stabilizer, the profile of the scroll casing, and the diffusion angle of the flow exit. The results are expressed as the fan performance and the specific sound pressure level characteristic. These parts have been found to have crucial effects on the system performance/noise characteristics and should be considered with care in the design stage.

Suction muffler is one of the important component of a compressor for low noise level and high efficiency. The suction muffler which has the complicated flow path gives the higher transmission loss of sound, but lower efficiency of compressor results from the superheating effect and flow loss in suction flow path. It is shown that the computational analysis of fluid dynamics are very popular methods for designing of high performance and low noise suction muffler. To reduce the thermodynamic and flow loss in suction process, the flow path of suction muffler was estimated by FVM(Finite Volume Method) and verified by experiments. And to enlarge the transmission loss of sound, the acoustic properties inside the suction muffler was analyzed by FEM(Finite Element Method) and experiments. The smart muffler which gives a good efficiency and low noise character was developed by using those methods, and the effect was evaluated in compressor by experiment.

왕복동식 압축기에서 고효율 토출밸브를 개발하였다. 멈치개(stopper)가 있는 외팔보 형태의 토출 밸브는 밸브 및 멈치개의 형상과, 밸브와 멈치개 및 밸브시트에 존재하는 오일에 의한 점성력(sticky force) 등에 의한 밸브의 개폐과정과 동적 거동특성의 변화를 유발한다. 본 논문에서는 오일막에 의한 점성력을 측정하고, 그에 의하여 유발되는 지연시간(time-lag)을 측정할 수 있는 실험장치를 개발하였다. 또한, 토출밸브의 개폐과정을 최적화하여, 과압축 손실을 최소화한 토출밸브계를 개발하였다. 개발된 밸브계에 대하여 실험적인 방법으로 그 효과를 검증하였다.

This environmental influence of the noise produced by a number of air-conditioner out-door units in a multi-unit housing is predicted and evaluated. The method based on Ray tracing theory and mirror image source theory is utilized. Each ventilation window in a machine room is considered as a sound source which contributes to the overall noise level of the surrounding environment. The adopted method has been found a very efficient tool to assess the environmental noise impact.

In order to understand dynamic characteristics of centrifugal compressor supported foil bearing, of which normal operating speed is about 20,000
${\sim}$ 50,000 rpm, the rotor whirl is measured using gap sensors. Not only critical speeds of rotor system but also stability of rotor whirl, which are main concerns of the turbo compressor system, are measured using gap sensors by varying the rotating speed the rotor. The stiffness characteristics of bearing system is shown to be almost invariant according to speed variation by the measurement of eccentricity. In addition, from the directional power spectral density function of the measured vibration signal, the isotropy stiffness characteristics of foil bearing system is discussed. -
When a tube is oscillated at a resonant frequency, acoustic variables such as density, velocity, and pressure undergo very large perturbation, often described as nonlinear oscillation. In order to analyze these phenomena, nonlinear governing equation has been drived and solved numerically. Numerical simulations were accomplished to study the effect of the tube shape on the maximum pressure we can obtain. The tubes of cylindrical, conical, and cosine-shape, which have same volume and length, were investigated. Results show that the resonant frequency and patterns of pressure waves strongly depend on not only the tube shape but also the amplitude of driving acceleration. The degree of non-linearity of wave patterns was also measured by the newly defined nonlinear energy ratio of the pressure signals. It was found that the 1/2 cosine-shape tube is more suitable to induce high compression ratio than other shapes.

This paper investigates the noise reduction scheme in tractor cabin by using various steps of experiment. The experiments were performed in the field as well as in the lab to facilitate the detail test procedure. Some of the test results were compared with computational results. Several noise sources and paths were identified including the engine compartment (cooling fan and timing gear cover), hydraulic system and its components (hoses, tubes and there mount) and structural characteristics of the cab, window, mounting bracket and machine frame including steps. Throughout the several design changes, cab noise level was reduced from 80.2dBA to 74.8dBA.

Severe fork-lift truck noise is annoying to an operator as well as one of the noise pollution elements. This paper presents the noise contribution analysis of a cabin type fork-lift truck to identify the major sources and its usage to reduce the interior noise level. The methodologies for this work are sound field analysis, sound intensity test, insertion loss test of duct system and etc. An effective method to suppress interior noise level of fork-lift truck and design guides are suggested.

This paper introduces the improved moving frame acoustic holography (MFAH) method and its application. MFAH allows us to visualize the noise generated by moving noise sources by employing a vertical line array of microphones affixed to the ground. The sound field generated by moving sources is different from that of stationary ones due to the movement of the sources. Therefore the measured sound pressure by the microphone on the ground has to be processed so that it cooperates the effect of the movement. This paper discusses the effect of moving noise sources on the obtained hologram by MFAH. This assures the applicability of MFAH to the visualization of moving sources. This paper also reviews the improved MFAH that can visualize a coherent narrow band noise and a pass-by noise. The practical applicability of the improved MFAH was demonstrated by visualizing tire noise during a pass-by test.

To identify forklift's booming noise in cabin under idling engine revolution, we discussed and applied conditioned input analysis. Acceleration signals at engine mounts and front window and rear window were considered as candidate input signals and output signal was sound pressure signal at driver's ear position in cabin. To reduce the numbers of the input signals, one idea were applied; Each one input signal from each input groups was selected, respectively because input signals in the same group were highly correlated. And Hilbert transform was used to determine the ordering of three selected inputs. Partial coherence functions, multiple coherence function and conditioned spectral density functions were investigate to the effects of booming noise by partial inputs.

Theoretical models that can be used to predict the range of main lobe widths and the probability distribution of the peak sidelobe levels of two-dimensionally sparse arrays are presented here. The arrays are considered to comprise microphones that are randomly positioned on a segmented grid of a given size. First, approximate expressions for the expected squared magnitude of the aperture smoothing function and the variance of the squared magnitude of the aperture smoothing function about this mean are formulated for the random arrays considered in the present study. By using the variance function, the mean value and the lower end of the range i.e., the first I percent of the mainlobe distribution can be predicted with reasonable accuracy. To predict the probability distribution of the peak sidelobe levels, distributions of levels are modeled by a Weibull distribution at each peak in the sidelobe region of the expected squared magnitude of the aperture smoothing function. The two parameters of the Weibull distribution are estimated from the means and variances of the levels at the corresponding locations. Next, the probability distribution of the peak sidelobe levels are assumed to be determined by a procedure in which the peak sidelobe level is determined as the maximum among a finite number of independent random sidelobe levels. It is found that the model obtained from the above approach predicts the probability density function of the peak sidelobe level distribution reasonably well for the various combinations of two different numbers of microphones and grid sizes tested in the present study. The application of these models to the design of random, sparse arrays having specified performance levels is also discussed.

Complex modal testing method for rotating disks with support motion is introduced which handles the pairs of two point excitation and responses of the disk as complex input and output, respectively. This method utilizes the directivity information and the separation over the rotational speed of forward and backward traveling wave modes or bending coupled modes in the directional frequency response functions(dFRFs). This method synthesizes the normal/reverse dFRFs and complex wave dFRF, which were originally applied to rotating shaft and rotating disk, respectively, and is applied to complex system with dynamically coupled rotating disks and shaft. Experiments with a commercial hard disk drive spindle system demonstrate the validity of this method.

A micromirror actuated by piezoelectric unimorph cantilevers is proposed as a tine-tracking device for high-density optical data storage. Bending motions of the metal/PZT/metal unimorphs translate an integrated micromirror along the out-of-plane vertical direction. The micromirror alters the optical path of the incident laser beam and linearly steers the reflected laser beam by its out-of-plane parallel actuation. Numerical analysis shows that the actuated micromirror can satisfy the tracking speed imposed by the requirement on the access time for the high-density optical data storage up to few tens Gbitlin2 owing to the light mass of the micromirror. In this paper, preliminary characteristics of the micro-machined PZT actuated micromirror (PAM) are reported. Only a 360 nm-thick PZT film deposited by sol-gel process shows both good electrical and mechanical characteristics for the fine-tracking actuator. The micromirror can be easily actuated up to several micrometers under low voltage operation condition well below 10 volts.

The conventional optics and near field optics are compared numerically in the view points of the spot size and propagation characteristics. The decaying characteristics of near field light require the optics to access the object within several tens of nanometers. Therefore the gap control is one of the main issues in the near field optics area. In this paper the gap control is done by using the shear force of the NF(Near Field) probe and the characteristics are examined. The probe is modeled as a 2'nd order mass-spring-damper system driven by a harmonic force. The primary cause of the decrease in vibration amplitude is due to the damping force - shear force - between the surface and the probe. Using the model, damping constant and resonance frequency of the probe is calculated as a function of probe-sample distance. Detecting the amplitude and phase shift of the NF probe attached to the high Q-factor piezoelectric tuning fork, we can control the position of the NF probe about 0 to 50nm above the sample. The feedback signal to regulate the probe-sample distance can be used independently for surface topography imaging. 3-D view of the shear force image of a testing sample with the period of

In this paper, we propose a design method using Taguchi method and a neural network. Using this method, we can design a dual-stage actuator having the required tracking/focusing properties in real time. Also, as an application of this method, a proposed dual-stage pick-up actuator having the required properties was designed. The seek time of this designed actuator is less than 13 msec by a time optimal technique. Simulation results show that this method can potentially be implemented in all the dual-stage actuators.

Sound intensity techniques and ODS(Operational Deflection Shape) techniques are applied to identify the acoustic noise source of a hard disk drive and its control system. The sound intensity is used to visualize the noise source locations, and the ODS information to visualize the vibration pattern and to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the noise sources. The measurement systems are customized to accurately measure the sound intensity and ODS distributions of HDD system in space domains as well as frequency domains. The measurement systems for the sound absorption and transmission loss of materials are also used to support the background data for the efficient noise control. Using the visual information of source locations and its dynamic characteristics, the partial noise barrier structure and optimum absorption are designed and its controlled sound power level is proved to be under 3.1 Bel(Idle)/3.3Bel (Seek) which is the lowest level in the disk drive industry.

HDD structure is excited by the dynamic motion of disk-spindle motor components. Those excitations which are generated at stator and magnet rotor, at bearings and from disk dynamics, are transmitted through motor spindle and flange to HDD cover and base. The operational deflection shape measurement can show the structural excitation patterns at the most influent frequency on the acoustic noise level. One of those components is the axial excitation along spindle, and the other is the local orbital excitation at contact area of motor flange and base. To make a reduction of those structural transmission excitations, the structure of spindle motor is modified to the direction of reinforcement at transmission path without change of bearings, magnet and coil. Some excitation of spindle motor component carrying out essential function is unavoidable. So it is the efficient way of HDD noise improvement to control the structural transmission of excitation.

Recently, optical pickup actuators have been designed to have structures that extruded lens to decrease their height, because they are used in very thin drive for notebook computers. However, because of discordant and undesirable of forces that are supposed to happen in this design feature, subsidiary resonance such as rolling and pitching mode exert bad influence on actuator. In this paper, we presented force constituents to clarify the cause of subsidiary resonance and proposed new finite element analysis method to calculate force precisely, and performed frequency response analysis to evaluate characteristics of actuators. As a result, we could find out design parameters to diminish the influence of subsidiary resonance. Sample actuators designed with appropriate parameters were fabricated and put to practical tests. Comparing analysis with experimental results, we verified the accuracy of the analysis and the effectiveness of the method presented.

Flying attitudes of the slider, which are flying height, pitch and roll, are affected by the air flow velocity, the skew angle, and the manufacturing tolerances. Traditional designs of the air bearing surface have considered only the flying performances for the variations in the air flow velocity and the skew angle, which are determined by the radial position. In this study, we present the new shape design of the air bearing surface by considering the track seek performance and the air bearing stiffness as well as the traditional design requirements. The optimization technique is used to improve the dynamic characteristics and operating performance of the newly proposed air bearing surface shape design further. The optimized configuration is obtained automatically and the optimally designed sliders show the enhanced flying and dynamic characteristics.

하드디스크의 고용량화 추세에 따라 헤드의 정밀한 위치제어를 위한 큰 대역폭의 트랙추적 서보 시스템의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 이에 작은 신호의 마찰을 제거하고 대역폭을 높이는 방법 중 하나인 2단구동기 트랙추적제어를 실시하여 큰 대역폭의 트랙 추적 서보시스템을 구성하는 방법에 대해 연구하였다. 2단구동기는 조동구동기(기존 하드디스크의 VCM)와 전단형 압전체를 부착한 미동구동기로 구성하였다. 미동구동기의 Hinge구조는 트랙 방향의 공진 주파수와 출력변위를 만족시키기 위한 구조로 설계하였다. 제어기는 notch filter와 PI 보상기를 사용하는 조동구동기와 notch filter와 PD 보상기를 사용하는 미동구동기를 다양한 구조로 구성한 것들을 비교하였다. 2단구동기는 VCM만을 사용하여 트랙 추적을 할 때보다 트랙 편심을 잘 추적하며, 기계적 공진과 VCM의 비선형성에 의해 제한된 대역폭을 개선시키는 효율적인 방법임을 확인하였다.

In this study, the experimental modal analysis is performed to investigate the dynamic characteristics of slider-air bearings in hard disk drives. Bump response of the slider is acquired by measuring the relative velocity for two points using the laser interferometer, in which the disk is scratched lightly by a sharp knife to make a bump. From the measurements, the modal parameters of the head slider, modal frequencies and damping ratios of roll and pitch, are estimated by data processing and parameter estimation.

The dynamic characteristics of a HDD suspension system are investigated by finite element analysis and experimental modal analysis. A finite element model of the suspension Type850 was developed for unloaded case. The calculated vibration modes were compared with measurements and agree well in shape and frequency except some local modes. Local thickness and Young's modulus of the finite element model are updated by modal tuning method to develop the precise FE model. A sensitivity matrix of the natural frequencies for some design variables was calculated using finite difference method. Most natural frequencies calculated by the tuned FE model coincide with the measurements and the errors between them are less than 2%.

레이저 텍스쳐와 미케니칼 텍스쳐 컴퓨터 하드디스크의 마찰과 마코 매카니즘이 Contact Start/Stop test 실행후의 특성들에 대해 연구되었다. 다양한 분석적이고 기계적인 테스트 기술들이 이용되었다. 형상, 조도, 화학적 조성, 기계적 성질, CSS 로부터 기인된 코팅의 마찰특성들에 대해 그 변화들을 조사하였다. 즉, AFM(Atomic Force Microscopy), Nano-Indentation, Nano-Scratch, TOF-SIMS(Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy), AES(Auger Electronic Spectroscopy)등이 이 연구에 적용되었다. 레이저 텍스쳐 범프의 표면조도와 미케니칼 텍스쳐 지역의 표면조도는 각각 대략적으로 4nm 와 7nm 감소되었다. 탄성계수와 경도값은 CSS test후에 증가하였고 가장 바깥쪽의 코팅층의 변형강화가 생겨났다. 자성층과 Ni-P 층 사이에 점착성의 문제가 확인되었다. TOF-SIMS 분석은 C 와
$C_2F_5$ 의 세기에 있어서 감소를 드러냈고 이것은 코팅 표면에 윤활제 요소의 마모를 확실시 할수 있는 결과로 나타났다. -
We propose a novel adaptive feed forward controller (AFC) design method for rejecting the effect of micro actuator resonance in the design of dual-stage actuator servo systems for disk drives. Microactuator's resonance is one of important issues in dual-stage actuator servo, which varies up to
${\pm}10%$ per product and even during operation. We derive an adaptive algorithm for the proposed AFC design, which turns out to be identical to the delayed-x LMS algorithm which is a special form of the filtered-x LMS algorithm. In the algorithm, coefficients of the AFC are adapted by the residuals of constrained structure defined in such a way that the coefficients become time invariant. Contrary to the conventional AFC, it considers the phase delay of closed-loop transfer function at resonance frequency for system stability. We also apply an adaptive algorithm with frequency tracking capability. The frequency tracking algorithm is induced by the orthogonality of AFC coefficients. Computer simulations are carried out to demonstrate effect of the proposed AFCs. -
This paper is concerned with the forced flexural vibration analysis of hard disk drive (HDD) spindle systems with multiple thin disks, supported by two ball bearings based on the finite element model. This is the extension of the previous work which analytically modeled every system component taking into account its structural flexibility and also the centrifugal stiffening effect especially for the disks. Among the end results, the forced time response is expectedly useful for the vibration control of the spindle itself or the position servo control of the magnetic head. On the other hand, the steady state responses such as the frequency response function and the unbalance response are useful for system identification. Futhermore, through a coordinate transformation the equations of motion is also derived with respect to the inertial frame for convenient analyses of certain classes.

This paper presents the modeling, theoretical formulation, and stability analysis for a combined system of a spinning disk and a head that contacts the disk. In the analytical model, head interface is considered by a rotating mass-spring-damper system together with a frictional follower force on the damped annular disks. The method of multiple scales is utilized to perform the stability analysis that shows the existence of instability associated with parametric resonances. This instability can be effectively stabilized by increasing the damping ratio of a disk.

The extensive increase of the rotating speed of HDD (hard disk drive) has improved the performance of HDD. One of drawbacks, however, is that it increase noise level. For the systematic noise control of HDD, it is important to know the way in which each source of HDD contributes to resulting noise. A conventional method for contribution analysis by using statistical information, however, is not proper for HDD. This paper reviews the conventional method, and explains the reason why the method is not proper for HDD, even though it is possible to find the number of independent sources by using statistical information. This paper also shows an experimental result for the identification of the number of independent sources of HDD.

A simplified modeling approach for occupied car seats was demonstrated to be feasible. The model, consisting of interconnected masses, springs and dampers, was initially broken down into subsystems and experiments conducted to determine approximate values for model parameters. A short study of the effect of changing model parameters on natural frequencies, mode shapes and resonance locations in frequency response functions was given, highlighting the influence of particular model parameters on features in the mannequin's vibration response. Good agreement between experimental and simulation frequency response estimates was obtained. Future work should include optimization of parameter estimates, the inclusion of viscoelastic and nonlinear elements in addition to the linear springs and dampers, and finally extensions to a 3D model.

Recently, piezoelectric materials have attracted considerable attention because of its self-sensing and actuating properties. To model smart structures, numerical modeling of structures with piezoelectric devices is essential. As many factors affect the performance of smart structures, optimization of these parameters is necessary. In this paper, the shape design sensitivity analysis of the 3D piezoelectric and structural elements is developed and shape optimization is performed. For the evaluation of the sensitivity, the finite element method is used. For the shape sensitivity, the domain velocity field is calculated. An acoustic cavity model is presented as a numerical example to study the feasibility of the formulation. The continuum sensitivity is compared with the results of the finite difference method by ANSYS. And the sequential linear programming (SLP) algorithm is used as the optimization algorithm.

The finite element analysis (FEA) is widely used in modem structural dynamics because the performance of structure can be predicted in early stage. However, due to the difficult in determination of various uncertain parameters, it is not be easy to obtain a reliable finite element model. To overcome these difficulties, updating program of FE model is developed by consisting of pretest, correlation and updating. In correlation, it calculates modal assurance criteria, cross orthogonality, mixed orthogonality and coordinate modal assurance criteria. For the model updating, the continuum sensitivity analysis and design optimization tool (DOT) are used. The SENSUP program is developed for model updating to obtain physical parameter sensitivity. The developed program is applied to practical examples such as the base plate of HDD, BLDC spindle motor, and upper housing of induction motor. And the sensor placement for the square plate is compared using several methods.

The intake noise of an automobile induced by firing of an engine accompanies acoustic resonances of ducts of an intake system. Conventionally, the adoption of the Helmholtz type resonator was one of possible ways to eliminate the booming noise due to acoustic resonances of air ducts. Although the Helmholtz type resonator is convenient to attenuate the intake noise of an automobile, the usage of the Helmholtz type resonator requires cost increase or big engine room space. Therefore, reduction of the number of the resonators or the volume of the resonators is essential to increase the value of an automobile. To meet these requirements, other types of resonator are suggested instead of the Helmholtz type resonator. The effectiveness of the suggested resonators is compared considering noise reduction ability, effect to the engine performance and size of each resonator.

Theoretical analysis of noise reduction by a membrane-duct system is presented. When acoustic waves propagate in the membrane-duct, the part of membrane is also excited and its motion is coupled with interior medium. For an infinite plane membrane-duct system, a simple coupled governing equation is derived and solved. One of the characteristics of dispersion relation is that evanescent waves occur below critical frequency. Attaching damping materials to the membrane may improve the absorption efficiency of acoustic energy. The results show that the membrane-duct system can be applied to diminish and absorb low frequency noise in duct instead of passive muffler, such as simple expansion chamber or absorption material.

Recently, the regulations from the government and the concerns of people give rise to the interest in exhaust and intake noise of passenger car as much as other vehicles. In these demands, performance prediction software was developed in the previous study. In this study, Robust design was used for improving the noise reduction capacity of intake system with the performance prediction software. On the basis of the existing design, length and radius of each component that was thought to effect to capacity of intake system was selected. At first factors are arranged by using
$L_{18}$ table of orthogonal array and then optimum value can be obtained by$L_{16}$ table of orthogonal array. -
Nowadays, the two microphone method is accepted as the standard as specified in ASTM E1050-90 for measuring in-duct acoustic properties. However, research results on using the least square method with multiple measurement points and broadband excitation have been reported for enhancing the frequency response of the two microphone method. In this paper, the effects of varying the relative measurement positions on errors in the estimation of the acoustic quantities is studied for the multiple microphone method. Both of the theoretical and experimental results show that, among every possible sensor positioning configurations, the equidistant positioning of sensors yields the smallest error within the effective measurement frequency range. In addition, it is noted that the measurement accuracy can be increased and the effective frequency range can be widened by increasing the number of equidistant sensors. Measurement examples are shown and the results support the findings.

A new method is proposed to measure the flow rate in a pipe by multiple measurements of acoustic pressure using a microphone array. It is based on the realization that variation in flow velocity affects the change in wave number. The method minimizes measurement random errors and sensor mismatch errors thereby providing practically realizable flow rate measurement. One of the advantages of the method is that it does not obstruct the flow field and can provide the time-spatial mean flow rate. Numerical simulations and experiments were conducted to verify the utility of this method.

Recently the uncertainty has been made rapid progress in various fields of industry but the uncertainty measurement method of acoustical test (i.e. Insertion loss, Absorption ratio, Transmission loss etc,) hasn't been established. In this study, the uncertainty of measurement method for ducted silencers is carried out according to ISO 7235. The standard uncertainty factors are composed of sound pressure level, microphone sensitivity and pistonphone calibration in this measurement. Sound pressure level is type A evaluation of uncertainty, microphone sensitivity and pistonphone calibration are type B evaluation of uncertainty. The combined standard uncertainty is calculated by two type evaluation. The expanded uncertainty is expressed by the combined standard uncertainty multiply k value which is yield the effective degree of freedom.

Absorption silencer is one of the most noise reduction devices and covered a wide range of noise matters. On account of the acoustical properties of absorption silencers depend on variable factor and complex matters, the design of silencers couldn't to be exact in various fields. In this study, we predicted the acoustical properties of absorptive silencers based on measured data and assumed how the acoustical properties is changed following baffle thickness, variable baffle form and open area. Also we recorded the pressure drop at each other. So it may a great help to engineer who install and design a silencer in various fields.

In this paper, experimental methods to find acoustic characteristics of acoustically treated air-conditioning duct system are proposed. Existing methods to analyze acoustic properties of duct with absorbent material have a dilemma which has to assume the wave in duct to be a plane wave. Under this assumption, applicable frequency limitation makes accurate analysis of practical air-conditioning system impossible. In order to analyze the properties of in-lined treated absorbent with high degree of accuracy, in this experiments the range of exciting frequency of sound source is broadband, which means that source speaker excites higher mode of in-duct sound field. Also, to define the relations of air cavity to the acoustic characteristics, acoustic experiments on ducts with air cavity of different depth are operated. In conclusion, air-cavity makes the absorbing ability of duct improved in low frequency range. Due to the interactions between the air cavity depth and the depth of absorbents, according to depth of cavity, the magnitude of absorption coefficients vs frequencies in specific range is changed. In lower frequency range, the absorption of sound energy by air cavity is more dominant than by absorbent itself, in higher range, the inversion is true.

In operating test of medium speed diesel engine, the large noise over 110dBA would be occurred, and silencer should be needed to prevent the transmission of noise through exhaust duct. A near neighborhood of medium speed engine test shop, outbreak of low frequency noise was reported. From the result of noise measurement, it was found that the coupling of engine noise and air column between workshops was main cause of annoying low frequency noise. From this study, 3 ways of reformation methods were proposed; insertion of plenum chamber, placement of baffles, and alteration of direction of exhaust. As a result of these modification, low frequency noise was cancelled out.

While the booming occurs in a cabin, the powertrain and subframes which are the main sources and paths of the booming, show the rigid body motions. This paper presents a technique to predict the booming noise in a car using the rigid body information of the important parts. The rigid body information comes from the CAD data, from which we can predict the response of the complex system. Since the mechanism of this technique is very similar to the finite element formulation, we can apply it to the complex system with ease.

This paper proposes a spherical probe allowing acoustic intensity measurements in three dimensions to be made, which creates a diffracted field that is well-defined, thanks to analytic solution of diffraction phenomena. Six microphones are distributed on the surface of the sphere along three rectangular axes. Its measurement technique is not based on finite difference approximation, as is the case for the ID probe but on the analytic solution of diffraction phenomena. In fact, the success of sound source identification depends on the inverse models used to estimate inverse diffraction phenomena, which has non-linear properties. In this paper, we introduce the concept of nonlinear inverse diffraction modeling using a neural network and the idea of 3 dimensional sound source identification with several tests.

Estimation of damping ratio for vibration signals measured on the passenger car's seat is useful for the objective evaluation of impact harshness in car. The vibration signal is a transient signal represented by many coupled modes of suspension system. Wavelet transform automatically decouples these modes in the time-frequency domain. Damping ratios for decoupled modes are obtained by logarithmic treatment for the Wavelet transformed signal. The objective evaluation using Wavelet transform has been well corresponded with subjective evaluation done by skilled engineers.

To develop the code of predicting flow-field and aeroacoustic noise by a electrical cable, a combined CFD-acoustic analogy approach is selected. The two-dimensional, unsteady, incompressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes solver with a
${\kappa}{\omega}$ ,${\kappa}{\omega}$ SST turbulence modeling is used to calculate the near-field around electrical cable. Near-field results are then coupled with two-dimensional Curle's integral formulation based upon Lighthill's acoustic analogy with an assumption of acoustic compactness. To validate this code, numerical results are compared with experimental data for a circular cylinder. The simulation shows an overprediction on acoustic amplitudes, but overally speaking, the spectrum pattern of sound pressure agrees well with experiment in an acceptable amount of error. In addition, various cross sections of a cable were selected and compared with each other in terms of drag and radiated noise. -
This paper deals experimentally with the effect of the sound-damping sheet on building wall system; brick wall, light wall panel, and gypsum board. Experimental results show that when the sound-damping sheet is attached on wall systems, the mass and/or damping effects result in increasing of STL of wall system depending on the characteristics of the original partition. It is pointed out that the performances of sound damping sheets must be presented with specific wall structures that applied, not by the sound transmission loss of the sheet itself.

Complex dispersion relations in a cylindrical, foam-lined duct were successfully identified by using an iterative Prony series method. Techniques for using the iterative procedure successfully are described in detail, particularly with regard to model order selection and the identification of parameter starting values. It is shown that modal wave speeds and spatial attenuations per wavelength can be derived from the complex dispersion relations obtained using the iterative procedure. In addition, a finite element simulation is shown to well represent corresponding experimental measurement in terms of modal wave speeds and spatial attenuations.

The aim of this study is to analyze the sound insulation performance of windows depending on the sound source types and to propose the noise control method in the apartment house. The regions where apartment houses are constructed are varied in the dominant noise sources such as aircraft noise, railway noise and road traffic noise. For the experiment, nine noise sources including pink noise were selected and recorded, which was used in the experiment by reproducing. As a result of this study, the sound insulation performance of window was found that when the frequency contents of the noise were high level in all frequency bands the difference of sound insulation performance was negligible, but when the frequency contents were low level at particular frequency band the difference of sound insulation performance was shown very differently.

Recently the impact sound insulation performance is regarded as one of the most important factor in determining the quality of apartment house. So many studies were carried out to improve these performance and to propose an appropriate evaluation method and standard of floor impact sound insulation for apartment house by psycho-acoustic method in the laboratory. This study was carried out the field psycho-acoustic test to find a correlation between physically measured values and psychological response in apartment house, and the results will be used to establish the appropriate evaluation method and standard of floor impact sound insulation.

It is well known that acoustic signals, even measured in an anechoic chamber, can be contaminated due to the wall interference. Therefore, it is necessary to reconstruct the original signal from the measured data, which is very critical for the case of measurement of source signal in a water tunnel. In this thesis, new methods for the reconstruction of sound sources are proposed and validated by using Boundary Element Method from measured data in a closed space. The inverse Helmholtz integral equation and its normal derivative are used for the reconstruction of sound sources in a closed space. An arbitrary Kirchhoff surface over the sources is proposed to solve the surface information instead of direct solution for the source. Although sound sources are not directly known by the inverse Helmholtz equation, the original sound source of pressure-field outside of the wall can be indirectly obtained by using this new method.

This paper describes the far-field estimation using the near-field measurement data. Measurement in far-field region gives us the acoustical characteristics of the source but in general measurement is made in near-field such as acoustic water tank or anechoic chamber, so far-field acoustical characteristics of the source should be predicted from near-field data. In this case, the number of measurement points in the near field which relates to the accuracy of the predicted field and the amount of data processing, should be optimized. Existing papers say that measurement points is proportional to kL and depends on geometry and directivity of the source. But they do not give us any definite criterion for the required number of measurement points. Boundary Collocation Method which is one of the far-field prediction methods, is analyzed based on Helmholtz integral equation and Green function and it has been found that the number of measurement points is optimized as 0.54kL which is about one half of the existing results.

Estimation of reverberant time is one of important factor for the calculation of absorption ration of absorption material. In general the digital filter bank has been used for the, estimation of decay curve of the sound pressure in a reverberant room. However at low frequency, it is not easy to get a good linear decay curve for the estimation of reverberant time. Now, wavelet transform is applied to this difficult task, a good result has been obtained at low frequency. The decay curve using wavelet filter bank is better than that using digital filter bank at low frequency. At higher frequency, both curves are similar.

We report the number of calibration and test for acoustic field which were conducted in KRISS between the year of 1990 and 1999. The items contain sound level meter and calibrator for calibration and sound absorption coefficient, transmission loss, sound pressure level of siren, sound pressure level and power of acoustic instrument and relative accessories for test. The data show that the number of them have been increased continuously.

The Combat Computer Consoles installed in surface ships should endure harsh environment such as vibration from engine or propeller and shock from underwater explosion. Generally, commercial isolation mounts are selected and used for anti-vibration and anti-shock design. In this research, the environment of the Combat Computer Console was analyzed first. Selected proper mount was modeled and computer simulation was performed to emulate the environment test. The real environment test was conducted with a manufactured Combat Computer Console. The test results were same as the simulation and satisfied the performance requirements. The computer simulation proved to be a useful design tool to predict the performance before the final environment test.

When visual intrusion is an important factor, it is desirable to find alternative methods of improving the insertion loss of a noise barrier without increasing the height. Therefore, the primary object of the work attenuates the noise due to transport vehicle by small interference device installed at noise barrier edge. In this paper the performance of noise barriers with attached interference device, in terms of shape, absorptive material and split panel, are examined using the boundary element approach. Also, the scale models are moanted in an anechoic chamber and the frequency of the sound sources are appropriately scaled to simulate full scale site conditions. Lastly, experimental measurements of the designs are executed for a range of frequencies and receiver positions, and are compared with the results of numerical modeling.

Recently "ride comfort" problem becomes increasingly important because of today's needs for train speedup. The concept of term "ride comfort" is equivocal. Generally it is defined as the vehicle vibration. There are many studies on evaluation method of ride comfort for railway. But each of them recommends the different assessment method and the different guidance. So users must review whether they can apply it to their system or not. In general, the evaluation methods defined in the standards - ISO 2631, UIC 513 R, and Ride Index suggested by Sperling - have been used in the railroad. We performed the ride comfort test in KNR line(Seoul - Kwangju) and simulated the relationship between them. And we compared our results to ERRI's.

송전선로에 새로운 Spacer damper를 설계하는데 이 논문의 목적이며, 이 설계되는 새로운 Spacer damper는 매우 중요한 특징과 장점을 가지고 있다. 또한, 최근 Spacer damper의 문제가 프랑스, 일본 등 다른 나라에서도 자동화 시스템과 함께 많이 발전되어 왔다. 개발된 Spacer damper외 설치는 특별한 기기없이 설치가능하며, 최근 자동 클램핑 장치 이용한 Spacer damper가 도입되어 피로 파괴와 미풍진동에 매우 효과적임이 입증되었고 보수유지가 거의 필요없으므로 경제성도 높으나 고가의 수입가격으로 인해 국산화의 필요성이 절실하다.

The purpose of this work is to analyze the vibration characteristic of boring bar with dynamic vibration absorber and find out the effective design parameters. Using the finite element method and modified optimum design concept, conventional optimum design based on approximate lumped parameter model is checked and practical design to be measured with modal analysis is compared with optimum design from numerical analysis. Also, the performance of reducing vibration is investigated with variation of shape of boring bar. The considered model of boring bar with dynamic vibration absorber is selected among manufactured boring bars with the best performance.

The maximum and mean indicated pressure of two stroke low speed diesel engine has been continuously increased with a view of increasing engine power and also reducing fuel consumption. As a result, axial excitation has been highed comparing to that of the previous and so in standard axial vibration damper is applied to all two stroke low speed diesel engine at the free end of crankshaft. Though many studies were carried out for marine use, few has been made for diesel power plant because there was little demand for power plant. Nowadays, diesel engine is much to be used for many benefits and so in this paper, the optimum design of axial vibration on the 65 MW diesel power plant with 9K80MC-S engine was carried out. And the axial-torsional coupled vibration of this shafting system is identified by theoretical analysis and vibration measurement.

Power transformers, air-intakes, stacks in a combined thermal power plant are the main noise sources. Power transformer noise among them has being get a target of public complaint due to 480Hz component of its pure tone. The source is mainly magnetostrictive vibration of the transformer core. The first countermeasures was installing sound barrier on the front of transformer. However, 500Hz, center of the frequency is not reduced. This paper includes the measurements of noise level at the near resident apartment, the identification of noise transfer and the countermeasures for noise sources. Cavity resonance type of noise reduction devices was installed on enclosuring wall of transformers. As a result, the noise level from transformer is reduced about 3dB.

The experimental results of sodium-water reaction noise measurement in frequency range
$1{/sim}200kHz$ are presented. The experiments of noise generation under the condition of sodium test facility, water leak rate$0.01{\sim}1.2g/s$ and temperature of sodium$250{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ , were carried out. From theoretical study it is noted that the noise resonant attenuation on hydrogen bubbles in liquid sodium plays the significant role for leak noise spectra formation. Interaction of leak noise and hydrogen bubbles in sodium being accompanied by thermal, emission and viscosity energy dissipation was studied. Acoustic noise spectra were investigated from point of view of water leak detection in sodium/water steam generator. The results of sodium-water reaction noise absorption on hydrogen bubbles in liquid sodium by temperature$250{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ are presented. The theoretical model of noise absorption using the coefficients of attenuation was developed. From calculation the coefficients of attenuation were estimated. -
옥내용 변전소의 셔터 및 공기풍도에 대한 흡차음 기술은 변전소의 민원소음 방지 측면에서 매우 중요한 기술이다. 변압기는 전원 주파수 60Hz의 2배 성분을 기저주파수로 하는 하모닉 성분의 소음을 발생시킨다. 본 연구에서는 실내 변압기에서 셔터를 투과하거나 공기풍도를 통해 실의로 방사되는 소음을 효과적으로 차단하는 방법론을 개발하는데 있다. 기존의 셔터의 흡/차음 성능을 개선하기 위하여 기존 셔터 앞에 흡/차음 셔터를 추가하는 장치를, 공기 풍도에는 변압기 소음주파수와 맞는 공명기를 적용하는 방법을 검토하였다. 또한, 이 장치들을 실제 현장에 적용하여 그 효과를 확인하였으며 실내변전소 변압기 소음제어용으로 유용하게 쓰일 수 있음을 확인하였다.

In this paper, a review is attempted for understanding of aeolian noise from high voltage insulators and their aerodynamic noise characteristics were investigated using the low noise wind tunnel. The noise from the insulators was dependent upon the wind speed and their orientation relative to the wind direction. The noise spectrum revealed sharp peak which was found the cavity resonance frequency.

Cause and the elimination method for the chattering phenomena were investigated the check valve attached exit of the auxiliary cooling water pump at a korean nuclear powerplant. From the site experiment and numerical calculation the incident angle of the disk was so small that it was not able to produce the lifting force to overcome the component of disk weight. Moreover, it turned out that the installed position was not symmetric for the secondary vortical flow generated inside the elbow, so that the flow structure had strongly unstable flow characteristics. From this technical support, the tapping noise and the chattering phenomena were eliminated exactly by changing the incidence angle of the valve disk and installed position of the check valve.

Chattering phenomenon is an abrupt relative vibration between the strip and rolls of rolling machine in working. It inevitably results from the progress of the degeneration in the mill facilities. This research was carried out in order to analyze the characteristic and find the cause of chatter mark in finishing mill and it was founded that one of major cause is appearance of dead zone at pinion stand in case of excessive roll force.

Sound propagation along the surface of the ground can be affected by the roughness of the ground surface and the direction of the wind. Noise Source parameter and ground factor are estimated using the measured results of two points under particular environmental condition, and the noise level of arbitrary points under the same environmental condition can be estimated. The results can be used for the prediction of the noise level from a source above a plain and homogeneous ground surface with no obstacles nearby. Upward and downward conditions are also addressed in addition to ground effect. The proposed method can be utilized to estimate the noise level of specific noise environment and its validity was confirmed with the results of actual field measurement.

It is impossible to predict accurately the dynamic behavior of turbine-generator system because bearing, and rotor characteristics are nonlinear and different from temperature, load, operation speed and bearing lubricant oil property. Especially, the characteristics of turbine hoods affect much the entire vibration characteristics of turbine. As the dynamic stiffness of turbine hoods are changed, the critical speeds of rotor are shifted. In this paper, the vibration behavior of turbine-generator is analyzed by using component mode synthesis and the critical speeds measured during shut-down are compared with the analytic results. It is confirmed that the 1st natural frequency and the mode shape are well in agreement with actual measured data.

In this paper, an integrated system for dynamic analysis and optimal design of engine mount systems is presented. The system can simulate static and dynamic behaviors of engine mount systems and optimize design parameters such as mount stiffness, mounting locations with desired design targets of frequency or displacement. A FF-engine with an automatic transmission is used to demonstrate the analysis and optimal design capabilities of the proposed design system.

In this paper a computer aided analysis method is proposed for durability assessment in the early design stages using dynamic analysis, stress analysis and fatigue life prediction method. From dynamic analysis of a vehicle suspension system, dynamic load time histories of a suspension component are calculated. From the dynamic load time histories and the stress of the suspension component, a dynamic stress time history at the critical location is produced using the superposition principle. Using linear damage law and cycle counting method, fatigue life cycle is calculated. The predicted fatigue life cycle is verified by experimental durability tests.

During the test drive of developing vehicle, a low frequency vibration of sprung mass on front outer wheel has been frequently observed in cornering with some speed. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the low frequency vibration of the sprung mass. The analysis result shows that the low frequency vibration is caused by sudden migration of the center of gravity of vihicle and it is determined by geometric points of suspension.

The Roadway caused through Power Train engine vibration and bad ride comfort. It is very important to analyze the vibratory characteristics. The mathematical models on the Power Train, which is composed of engine-/transmission block, universal joint shaft, differential, rear axle arm and wheels, are developed and is verified by the experiments. This Paper describes the coupling influence occurred through a complete drive system for the power train. Dies study is carried out computationally with a calculation program and experimentally with the aid of the mode analysis.

In this study, the vibration screening effectiveness of barriers which can isolate structures from ground-transmitted vibration generated by harmonic forces is performed. For high frequencies, the vibration screening effectiveness of barriers is analyzed from field tests, and compared with the results from numerical analyses using a commercial program, ANSYS. Using these numerical analysis procedures, the effectiveness for vibration with various low frequencies is predicted. The frequency analysis tests of surface waves are performed in order to estimate the dynamic material properties of soil for 100 Hz, 150 Hz, 200 Hz, and 250 Hz. Three-dimensional solid elements are used in order to consider the diffraction of waves in all directions. Spring-damper combination elements are used in order to avoid the reflection of waves on the boundary. The results of numerical analysis agree with those of field tests. From the results of this numerical analyses, the reduction of vibration for low frequencies induced by the traffic loads can be predicted.

In this paper, classical vibration theories are summarized to design engine mount system of passenger vehicles. The vibrational characteristics of powertrain system and its equation of motion are introduced. Based upon the equation, the concept of the center of gravity, the principle inertia axis, the elastic center, and the elastic axis are defined and some new concepts are suggested. The theory of mode decoupling and the relationship between TRA (Torque Roll Axis) and roll mode are also reexamined to support the design concept of engine mount systems.

Dynamic characteristics of a vertically coupled structure used for micro gyroscopes, is studied. The coupled motion between the reference and sensing vibrations causes the zero-point output which means non-zero sensing vibration without angular velocity. This structural coupling deteriorates sensing performance and dynamic stability. We theoretically analyze dynamic characteristics associated the coupling phenomenon. Effects of reference frequency and coupling factor on the rotational direction and amplitude of elliptic oscillation are studied. A method to predict the existence of curve veering or crossing in frequency trajectories is introduced for the application to the design of micro gyroscopes with a vertically decoupled structure.

Damage detection methods using vibration modes are investigated on ring structures and. modal behavior of the slightly asymmetric rings is examined. Mode shapes changes, MSER(modal strain energy ratio) and MCR(modal curvature ratio) are applied to identify the locations of faults or damages. Parameters are calculated and compared by finite element analysis on rings with designed local damages. Damages are modeled as reduced stiffness in the analysis. The results show MSER and MCR can be proper factors to detect local damages in ring structures.

The partial differential equations for a coil spring derived from Timoshenko beam theory and Frenet formulae. Dynamic stiffness matrix of a coil spring composed of a circular wire is assembled by using dispersion relationship, waves and natural frequencies. Natural frequencies are obtained from maxima in the determinant of inverse of a dynamic stiffness matrix with appropriate boundary conditions. The results of the dynamic stiffness method are compared with those of transfer matrix method, finite element method and test.

Different test methods were used to measure and compare the loss factor of a steel beam. They are free vibration logarithmic decay method, half-power bandwidth method using narrow-band analysis, wide-band analysis method with inverse FFT. In these tests, specimens are clamped at one end. Free vibration method and half-power bandwidth method gave good results. Effect of vibration pick-ups were tested. We also tried center excitation method but could not obtain loss factor.
