In this study, we establish a theory for dynamic behaviors of an automatic ball balancer, analyze its dynamic characteristics, and provide its design guide line. Equations of motion are derived by using the polar coordinate system instead of the rectangular coordinate system which was previously used in other researches. After non-dimensionalization of the equations, the perturbation method is applied to locate the equilibrium positions and to obtain the linearized equations of motion around the equilibrium positions. The Eigenvalue problem is used to verify the dynamic stability around the equilibrium positions. On the other hand, the time responses are computed from the nonlinear equations of motion by using a time integration method.

The aim of this study is to establish the indoor noise limits of apartment houses for mad traffic noise. To achieve this goal, psycho-acoustic experiments were carried out with the mad traffic sound sources modulated by the transmission loss characteristics of the external windows. As a result of this study, followings are suggested. 1) On correlation between dose level and psycho-acoustical response, the initial level of negative feeling is located on
$40.1{\sim}40.6$ Leq dB(A). 2) On the degree of satisfaction to road traffic noise, near 35% Point being same dissatisfaction degree is to be assumed$40{\sim}41$ dB(A) of indoor noise level presented into three vocabulary. It is suggested to be reasonable level of 40 dB(A) on the indoor noise limits for intruding road traffic noise, and it is appropriate to be the 5dB level difference between grades. -
The effects of the movable reflectors on the stage acoustics in Seoul's Sejong Performing Arts Center (3,048-seat multi-purpose hall, stage area of
$270m^2$ within an orchestra shell) and Ceramic Palace Hall (440-seat concert hall, stage area of$105m^2$ ) were investigated. Acoustical parameters were evaluated by measuring stage and audience acoustics in the two halls. The study was primarily based on the stage support parameter STI proposed by Gade (Acustica 65, pp.193-203, 1989). Results showed that STI varied on the stage of the large hall according to the position of the reflectors, whereas STI did not vary in the small hall. In the large hall, a smaller clear stage area (bounded by the reflectors) yields an increase in both STI and other early energy measures. In the small hall, early energy decreases when its stage's surface diffusion was covered with specular reflectors. -
In this study, Heavy-weight floor impact sound and vibration in concrete structures with different slab thickness have been measured in a test building. It was found that natural frequency increased according to increases of slab thickness, and acceleration level decreases. Results also show that the measurements in the 210 and 240mm slab structures are complied with the result from finite element analysis but the In and 180mm slab structures are not because the structures are constrained to the ground. Therefore, in modelling process the condition of sub-structures should be examined in relation to the boundary conditions.

For large structural eigen-analysis, the whole structure is divided into some partitioned structures and through synthesis of partitioned structural model the eigen-data of structure can be obtained. In that case, eigenvalue problem consists of semidefinite mass matrix form because of displacement constraint condition. In this work the eigenvalue problem is considered by means of several method, determinant search and null space reduction method.

A dynamic system identification technique based on the topology optimization method is developed. The specific problem in consideration is the damage location identification of a plate structure using the Frequency Response Function (FRF) of a damaged structure. In this work, the identification problem is formulated as a topology optimization problem. The importance of using anti-resonance information in addition to using resonance information is addressed. Though a simple problem was considered here, the possibility of using the topology optimization for damage identification is investigated lot the first time.

As computer capability and test skill become more and more advanced, finite element method and modal test are being widely applied in engineering design. In order to correlate and reconcile the inevitable discrepancies between the analytical and experimental models, many techniques have been developed. Among these methods, multiple-system methods are known as the effective tools in that they can supply the rich modal data available which are experimentally obtained. These abundant modal data can help structural system parameters estimated well. Multiple-system methods can be classified into the structural modification methods and feedback controller methods. The structural modification methods need the physical attachment of structures and their concept may limit the application of them. To overcome this drawback, the feedback controller methods are addressed which enable us to get more modal data without the structural change. Mode decoupling controller(MDC), one of them, is to use acceleration out)ut feedback to perturb an open-loop system. The output feedback controller generally cannot guarantee the stability of a closed-loop system. However, MDC can solve this problem under the certain constraints. So far, MDC utilizes accelerations as the sensor signals. In this research, strain sensors are going to be picked up to apply to the MDC. Strain output is recently used for structural system identification due to the drastically improved and miniaturized strain sensor. In this paper, we show that the MDC using strain output has differences compared with acceleration output in estimating the structural system parameters. The associated simulation is performed to demonstrate the above mentioned characteristics.

Structural Dynamics Modification (SDM) is a very effective technique to improve structure's dynamic characteristics by adding or removing auxiliary structures. changing material properties and shape of structure. Among those of SDM technique, the method to change shape of structure has been mostly relied on engineer's experience and trial-and-error process which are very time consuming. In order to develop a systematic method to change structure shape, surface grooving technique is studied and successfully applied to HDD cover model. To check the effectiveness of this surface grooving technique, the grooved HDD cover design was manufactured using rapid prototyping and experimentally tested to prove the effectiveness of the grooving method as one of SDM techniques. And the modal strain energy and eigenvalue sensitivity method for choosing the initial starting point are compared.

This paper addresses what amount of whole-body vibration is exposed to pilots of UH60 helicopters during flight. To measure the whole-body exposed from the feet and seat, the 12-axis vibration measurement system was used. It enables simultaneous measurement of vibration exposure from the body contact area of the feet, hip and back. The measured 12-axis vibration signals are exploited to the comfort level of UH60 helicopters during flight. It is shown that the evaluated ride value is close to
$0.74{\sim}0.79m/s^2$ and that it is equivalent to the semantic scale of 'fairly uncomfortable'. To assess the health effects of whole-body vibration exposed to pilots of UH60 helicopters during their flight, the rms-based and VDV(vibration dose value)-based evaluation results of measured four-axis vibration signals are shown in this work. The fatigue-decreased proficiency limit, whose level is half of the exposure limit, is expected to come after the two-hour flight. The exposure limit is shown to reach after the 10-hour flight. -
Thesedays, the reduction of hand-transmitted vibration of hand-held power tools is important issue for operators' welfare, In the study, frequency response function is measured and vibration total value is evaluated for solving the principle and effect of the BOSCH's vibration-proof handle. This handle functions as a dynamic damper and has the effect, 22% vibration total value reduction under idling condition using a system that consists of a PC with data acquisition system and LabVIEW program. The program in the system makes it possible to evaluate vibration total value according to ISO 5349. This handle offers a good example for figuring out the physical contradiction between the work efficiency and operators' health.

Generally, noise from a indoor air conditioner has been measured by overall sound pressure level, dB. Customers evaluation, however, of the noise from an air conditioners should not be depend on the only overall level but also the sensory feeling. Moreover, in this sensory evaluation, irregular, time-varying and uneven sounds which are difficult to describe itself by overall level are more affectable. Unfortunately however the formal evaluation method for this kinds of noise is not determined yet. In this research, the evaluation method for tonal noise, which is one of the unmeasurable sounds by overall level, is proposed to evaluate its acceptability based on the consumer's sense of hearing. To consider the consumer's sense, several times of Jury evaluation are carried out. The proposed approach could be applied to the other sound, which acoustical characteristics are similar to the tonal noise .

In this paper the aeroacoustic characteristics of a tilt-rotor system is measured by using a sealed model tilt-rotor. With a microphone array system and the do-dopplerization algorithm, the location and the characteristics of rotor noise are successfully measured. The most of high frequency noise (4kHz) is found to be located at rotor blade tips, but the low frequency tonal noise is dominant on the middle of the rotor blades. The measured tonal noise characteristics are compared to the results of theoretical calculation. At 0.5m distance from the rotor plane, measured and calculated data are relatively well matched regardless of rotating speed and collective pitch angie for the azimuthal angles between
$0^{\circ}\;and\;60^{\circ}$ . However, the data on the azimuthal angles between$70^{\circ}\;and\;90^{\circ}$ are not quite comparable. In addition, the compared data for far-field case (1.5m) are quite different. This is probably due to the unsteady effect which if not included in the theoretical calculation. -
Microphone array techniques are being used widely in wind tunnel measurements for identification of the distributed aerodynamic noise sources on the model being tested. Depending on the frequencies and sound levels, conventional beamforming algorithm has limitation in separating two adjacent sources. Several modifications to the classical beamforming have been developed to enhance way resolution and reduce sidelobe levels. In this Paper the robust adaptive beamforming and the CLEAN algorithm are used to compare to the result of conventional beamforming method. It is found that the CLEAN algorithm is capable of pin-pointing locations of multiple sources nearby, while these sources are unidentifiable with robust adaptive or conventional beamforming techniques.

The focus of this paper is to observe the aerodynamic and vibration characteristics of the NACA0012 blade(AR=16.6) fixed on the lower surface of the wind tunnel, by changing air speed and the blade's angle of attack. After fixing a slit-typed vortex generator on the front of the blade, it could be observed that the vibrational characteristics caused by interactions between vortex and blade through the 5-hole pilot tubes. And, also, two different blades in stiffness had been prepared for observing those characteristics above in this experiment. The results were compared with the given stiffness of blade, as well. According to the results, it is clear to recognize that the vibration spectrum increases while air speed and angle of attack increase, and, also, less stiffness means bigger vibration spectrum.

The engine mount of vehicle systems is role of support engine mass and isolate noise and vibration from engine disturbance forces. One of attractive candidates to achieve this goai is to utilize a semi-active ER engine mount. By applying this, we can effectively control damping force and hence the noise and vibration by just controlling the intensity of electric field. However, control performance of the engine mount may be very sensitive to temperature variation during engine operation. In this work, we Investigate dynamic performances of ER engine mount with respect to the temperature variation. In order to undertake this, a flow-mode type of ER engine mount is designed and manufactured. Displacement transmissibility is experimentally and numerically evaluated as a function of the electric field. The ER engine mount is then incorporated with full-vehicle model in order to investigate vibration control performance. After formulating the governing equation of motion, a semi-active controller is designed. The controller is implemented through a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS), and control responses such as acceleration level at various engine speeds are evaluated in the frequency and time domains.

Physical changes in a structural system may cause changes in mechanical impedance of the system. Due to the electro-mechanical coupling effect in piezoelectric materials, this change can be monitoring by the electrical impedance of the piezoelectric sensor. In this paper, the variability of electro-mechanical impedance caused by temperature effect is assessed to adjust impedance data used for EMI based damage detection in beams. First experiments on beams are described. Next, experiments were performed under the temperature varying condition, in the range of
$3^{\circ}C\;to\;23^{\circ}C$ . Finally, the relationship between temperatures and impedance signatures is analyzed empirically temperature-frequency patten for the test structure. -

Recently, since structures have become extremely airtight with the development of high-rise apartments, mixed use residential and commercial buildings and offices, large capacity range hoods have become commonly implemented. However, the high noise level caused by this range hood system made of thin plate is the cause of increased complaints among users. In this study, the level of noise emitted from this type of range hood was measured by height at the user's location in the kitchen. It was confirmed that a great deal of noise was emitted in the downward direction of the hood. In order to minimize the noise emitted from this type of range hood, a new type of fan was manufactured. This was done by changing only the material and shape of the fan, since it was determined to be the primary source of noise emission. Then a comparison and evaluation were carried out regarding the noise characteristics between the new type of fan and the existing type of fan. As a result, it was confirmed that the noise from the new fan was reduced by more than 2 dB compared to the existing fan without noise interference at the discharge end.

Active control method is applied to a flexible beam excited by a shock impulse by focusing on reducing the residual vibrations after the shock input. It is assumed that the shock input can be measured and is always occurred on the same point of the beam. If the system is well identified and the corresponding inverse system is designed reliably, it has shown that a very simple feed-forward active control method may be applied to suppress the residual vibrations without using an error sensor and adaptive algorithm. Both numerical simulation and experimental result show a promising possibility of applying to a practical problem.

In this paper, a dynamic model for the rotor shaft-coupling-blade system is developed. The blades are attached to a disk and driven by an electric motor shaft which is flexible in torsion. We assumed that the shaft torsional flexibility is lumped in the flexible coupling which is usually adopted in rotor systems. The Lagrangian approach with the small deformation theory for both blade-bending and shaft-torsional deformations is employed for developing the equation of the motion. The assumed modes method is used for estimating the blade transverse deflection. The numerical results highlight the effects of both structural damping of the system and the torsional stiffness of the flexible coupling to the dynamic response of the blade. The results showed strong coupling between the blade bending and shaft torsional vibrations in the form of inertial nonlinearif, stiffness hardening and softening.

The paper presents the identification of dynamic property of a rotor system with a squeeze film damper (SFD) using magnetic fluid. An electromagnet is installed in the inner damper of the SFD. The magnetic fluid is well known as a functional fluid. Its rheological property can be changed by controlling the applied current to the fluid and the fluid can be used as lubricant. Basically, the proposed SFD has the characteristics of a conventional SFD without an applied current, while the damping and stiffness properties change according to the variation of the applied electric current. Therefore, when the applied current is changed, the whirling vibration of the rotor system can be effectively reduced. The clustering-based hybrid evolutionary algorithm (CHEA) is used to identify linear stiffness and damping coefficients of the SFD based on measured unbalance responses.

This paper deals with friction-induced vibration of disc brake system under constact friction coefficient. A linear, finite element model to represent the floating caliper disc brake system is proposed. The complex eigenvalues are used to investigate the dynamic stability and in order to verify simulations which are based on the FEM model, The comparison of experimental and analytical results shows a good agreement and the analysis indicates that mode coupling due to friction force and geometric instability is responsible fur disc brake squeal. And the Front brake system reduced the squeal noise using design of experiment method(DOE). This helped to validate the FEM model and establish confidence in the simulation results. Also they may be useful during real disk brake model.

An analytical method for the hydroelastic vibration of a vessel composed of an upper annular plate and a lower circular plate is developed by the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The two plates are clamped along a rigid cylindrical vessel wall. It is assumed that the fluid bounded by a rigid cylindrical vessel is incompressible and non-viscous. The wet mode shape of the plates is assumed as a combination of the dry mode shapes of the plates. The fluid motion is described by using the fluid displacement potential and determined by using the compatibility conditions along the fluid interface with the plate. Minimizing the Rayleigh quotient based on the energy conservation gives an eigenvalue problem. It is found that the theoretical results can predict well the fluid-coupled natural frequencies comparing with the finite element analysis result.

In this paper, we studied about the effects of the rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid with a moving mass. The influences of a rotating angular velocity, the velocity of fluid flow and moving mass on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe have been studied by the numerical method. The equation of motion is derived by using the Lagrange's equation. The cantilever pipe is modeled by the Euler-Bemoulli hew theory. When the velocity of a moving mass is constant, the lateral tip-displacement of a cantilever pipe is proportional to the moving mass and the angular velocity. In the steady state, the lateral tip-displacement of a cantilever pipe is more sensitive to the velocity of fluid than the angular velocity, and the axial deflection of a cantilever, pipe is more sensitive to the effect of a angular velocity.

Fluid-elastic instability and turbulence excitation for an under developing steam generator are investigated numerically. The stability ratio and the amplitude of turbulence excitation are obtained by using the PIAT (Program for Integrity Assessment of Steam Generator Tube) code from the information on the thermal-hydraulic data of the steam generator. The aspect ratio, the ratio between the height of U-tube from the upper most tube support plate (h) and the width of two vertical portion of U-tube (w), is defined for geometric parameter study. Several aspect ratios with relocation of tube support plates are adopted to study the effects on the mode shapes and characteristics of flow-induced vibration. When the aspect ratio exceeds value of 1, most of the mode shapes at low frequency are generated at the top of U-tube. It makes very high value of the stability ratio and the amplitude of turbulent excitation as well. We can consider that the local mode shape at the upper side of U-tube will develop the wear phenomena between the tube and the anti-vibration bars such as vertical, horizontal, and diagonal strips. It turns out that the aspect ratio reveals very important parameter for the design stage of the steam generator. The appropriate value of the aspect ratio should be specified and applied.

In vibro-acoustic analysis, the commercial CAE tools, such as SYSNOISE, is usually used to take into account of the coupled effects of fluid acoustics and structural vibration. The acoustic field can be solved by either FEM or BEM, while the vibration field is usually solved by FEM. The interior or exterior acoustic problems with the coupled effects of the structural boundary could be solved by the commercial tools. The commercial tools, however, could not solve the problems in case that both the interior and exterior acoustic field is coupled with the structural boundary. In this paper, a realistic method based on FEM/BEM coupling scheme is presented to analyze the acoustic radiation from the internal source in a chamber to external acoustic field through elastic structural boundary. Several numerical examples are implemented to validate the developed program.

The paper presents a numerical solution to the problem of a hot rigid indenter siding over a thermoelastic Winkler foundation with a thermal contact resistance at constant speed. It is shown analytically that no steady-state solution can exist for sufficiently high temperature or sufficiently small normal load or speed regardless of the thermal contact resistance. However, the steady state solution may exist in the same situation if the thermal contact resistance is considered. This means that the effect of the large values of temperature difference and small value of force or velocity which occur at no steady state can be lessened due to the thermal contact resistance. When there is no steady-state the predicted transient behavior involves regions of transient stationary contact interspersed with regions of separation regardless of the thermal contact resistance. Initially, the system typically exhibits a small number of relatively large contact and separation regions, but after the initial transient the trailing edge of the contact area is only established and the leading edge loses contact, reducing the total extent of contact considerably. As time progresses, larger and larger number of small contact areas are established, until eventually the accuracy of the algorithm is limited by the discretization used.

The speech intelligibility is one of the most important factors in communication system. The speech intelligibility is related with speech to noise ratio. To enhance the speech to noise ratio, background noise reduction techniques are being developed. As a part of solution to noise reduction, this paper introduces directional microphone using beamforming method and speech filtering method. The directional microphone narrows the spatial range of processing signal into the direction of the target speech signal. The noise signal located in the same direction with speech still remains in the processing signal. To sort this mixed signal into speech and noise, as a following step, a speech-filtering method is applied to pick up only the speech signal from the processed signal. The speech filtering method is based on the characteristics of speech signal itself. The combined directional microphone and speech filtering method gives enhanced performance to speech intelligibility in communication system.

This paper proposes a control system for a Galvano meter which can be used in angle multiplexing for a holographic data storage. Due to the small angle multiplexing selectivity and the exposure/delay time of a CCD camera, the system needs to be controlled to satisfy the performance specification. First, the mathematical model is derived by combining the electrical and mechanical dynamic equations. Then, the obtained model was tuned by the experiments. Finally, a PID controller using DSP was designed and was applied the holographic system. From this approach, we successfully meet the performance specification.

The present study aims to design electrically and structurally effective antenna structures in order that the structural surface itself could become the antenna. The basic design concept is composite sandwich structure in which microstrip antenna is embedded and this is termed composite smart structure (CSS). The most important outstanding problem is that composite materials of structural function cannot be used without reducing antenna efficiency. Unfortunately, such materials have high electrical loss. This is a significant design problem that needs to be solved in practical applications. Therefore, the effect of composites facesheet on antenna performances is studied in the first stage. Changes in the gain of microstrip antenna due to composites facesheet have been determined. 'Open condition' is defined when gain is maximized and is a significant new concept in the design of high-gain antennas considering bandwidth in practical application. The open condition can be made with any thickness of outer facesheet by controlling its position. In the design of CSS, glass/epoxy composites and Nomex honeycomb were used with exploiting open condition. Experiments, confirm that the gain is improved (over 11 dBi) and the bandwidth is also as wide as specified in our requirements (over 10% at 12.2 GHz). With the open condition, wideband antenna can be integrated with mechanical structures without reducing any electrical performances, as confirmed experimentally here.

This paper presents a new approach for hysteresis modeling of a magnetorheological (MR) fluid. The field-dependent hysteresis of MR fluid is investigated using the Preisach model. The commercial MR Product (MRF-132LD, Lord Corporation) is employed. Its field-dependent shear stress is then obtained using a rheometer (MCR 300, Physica). In order to show the applicability of the Preisach model to the MR fluid, two significant Properties; the minor loop property and the wiping-out property are experimentally examined. Subsequently, the Preisach model for the MR fluid is identified using experimental first order descending (FOD) curves in discrete manner. The effectiveness of the identified hysteresis model is verified in the time domain by comparing the predicted field-dependent shear stress with the measured one. In addition, the hysteresis model proposed in this work is compared to Bingham model.

Ionic-polymer-metal-composite(IPMC), one of new actuation materials of electroactive polymers plated with noble metallic electrodes is known for the fast bending upon electric field. The IPMC strip bends towards anode under electrical field. It has many merits of low driving voltage, quick responsiveness, high durability, possibility of miniaturizability. In this paper, we studied for developing the large deflection of IPMC according several fabricating parameters. We measured the large deflection by the different process of sandpaper and sandblasting in surface treatment, the initial compositing process and the surface electroding process, and the different counter ions in ion exchanging process. In fundamental, the displacement of IPMC strip depends on voltage magnitude and applied signal frequency and its maximum deformation is observed at a critical frequency, resonant frequency.

Biomimetic actuators composed of cellophane with an electrically conducting polyaniline(PANI) film have been fabricated and tested in air ambience conditions doped with two different counter ions such as perchlorate (
${ClO_4}^-$ ) and tetrafluoroborate (${BF_4}^-$ ). Fabrication of the trilayer CP//CELLOPHANE//CP substantially enhanced the tip displacement (13.2mm) compared to the small displacement (8.3mm) of the bilaye. CP//CELLOPHANE. The ion migration among layers is the main factor behind the expansion of cellophane, while the expansion/contraction of PANI are dependent on the redox reaction of the polymer. The displacement of the composite is dominated by the humidity content. This implies that the actuation principle is possibly due to the assistance of water existing. -
Social noise survey on multiple residential noises such as nut impact, air-borne, bathroom, drainage and traffic noises was conducted to investigate major variables affecting the overall satisfaction for noise environment The effect of individual noise perception on the evaluation of the overall noise environment was investigated through a questionnaire survey on annoyance, disturbance and noise sensitivity. Auditory experiments was also undertaken to determine noise level according to the percent of satisfaction for individual noise source. As a result of survey, it was found that satisfaction for floor impact noise most greatly affects the overall satisfaction for noise environment and annoyance most greatly affects the satisfaction for individual noise sources. Result of auditory experiment showed that the noise level of floor impact noise by bang machine, airborne, drainage and traffic noise corresponding to 50% satisfaction is 44dB(
$L_{i,Fmax,AW}$ ) and 40dBA, respectively. -
Finite element analysis of concrete slab system in apartment building was executed using the tables of orthogonal arrays, and optimal design process was proposed. At first, experimental results show that sound peak components to influence the overall level and the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab. Finite element model of concrete slab was compared with experimental results, and well corresponded with an error of less than 10%. The tables of orthogonal arrays were used for finite element analysis with 8 factors. 3 related to material properties and 5 related to slab shape parameters and its results were analyzed by statistical method, ANOVA. The most effective factor among them was slab thickness, and main effect factor from slab shape parameters was different from each natural frequency. The interaction was found in the higher mode over
$3^{rd}$ natural frequency. From main effect plot and interaction plot, the optimal design factor to increase the natural frequency was determined. -

Low frequency heavy-weight impact noise is the most irritating noise in Korean high-rise reinforced concrete apartment buildings. This low frequency noise is generated by foot traffic due to the fact that Koreans do not wear shoes at home. The transmission of the noise is facilitated by a load bearing wall structural system without beams and columns which is used in these buildings. In order to control low frequency heavy-weight impact noise, floating floors using isolation materials such as glass-wool mat and poly-urethane mat are used. However, it was difficult to control low frequency heavy-weight impact sound using isolation material. In this study, reinforcement of concrete slab using beams and plate was conducted. Using the FEM analysis, the effect of concrete slab reinforcement using FRP(fiber-glass reinforced plastic) on the bang machine impact vibration acceleration level and sound were conducted at the standard floor impact sound test building. The
$3{\sim}4dB$ floor impact vibration acceleration level and impact sound pressure level were reduced and the natural frequency of slabs were changed. -
Finite element method was applied to the vibration analysis of concrete slab system in apartment building. To save the time and cost the 2 dimensional finite element model was proposed. At first, experimental results show that sound peak components to influence the overall level and the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab. Second, there is linear relationship between the impact sound pressure level and vibration acceleration level. Third, 2 dimensional finite element model was enough to analyze the vibration analysis of floor structure system.

Just as the vibration modes of a beam are dependent on its end constraints or boundary conditions. Vibration modes of a tire are dependent on its patch and spindle constraints. This dependence is key to understanding the dynamic properties of a tire and is apparent in various analytical and experimental investigations in the literature. One of the main task in a modal analysis is the measurement of the Frequency Response Function (FRFs). Because all the subsequent analysis is based on these FRFs, their quality is critically important in obtaining accurate modal parameter estimates. In rotating systems, FRFs are frequently contaminated by harmonic peaks related to such factors as imbalance, misalignment. This harmonic peaks appear in the FRFs as sharp spikes, which can be erroneously treated in modal curve-fitting procedures as structural modes. The harmonic peaks removal method is demonstrated by application to modal analysis on rotating tires. The results show substantial improvement in FRF quality.

Vibration test using the MAST(Multi Axial Simulation Table) is more reliable test than conventional testing process focused on one directional vibration test. The former test could be possible with a advanced control algorithm and hardware supports so that most of the operation is automatically conducted by MAST system itself except the input information that is derived from the measured data. That means the reliability of the vibration test is highly depended on the input profile than any other cases before. In this paper, the optimal algorithm based on energy method is introduced so that the best combination of candidated input PSD data could be constructed. The optimal algorithm renders time information so that the vibration fatigue test is completely possible for any measured signals one wants. The real road test is conducted in short intervals containing some rough roads and the candidated input PSD is obtained from the extra road in proving ground. The testing is targeted for the electronically operated door and seat.

A carbon nanotube-based nanoelectromechanical device in resonance is examined theoretically. Mechanical deflections are electrically induced and resonantly excited at the fundamental frequency in cantilevered carbon nanotube. The electrically conducting elastic beam with van der Waals interactions at the tip is used for the modeling of the carbon nanotube device. Due to the elastic, electrical, and van der Waals interactions, the total energy of the system shows the unsymmetric two-well potentials. The predictions can be made that the device exhibits its nonlinear dynamic features in the two-well potentials. Also it is predicted that the fundamental frequency of the carbon nanotube device was changed by the nonlinear interactions induced by electrical and van der Waals potentials between carbon nanotube and ground surface of the device.

In this paper, the response characteristics of one to one resonance on the rectangular cantilever beam in which basic harmonic excitations are applied by nonlinear coupled differential integral equations are studied. This equations have 3-dimensional non-linearity of nonlinear inertia and nonlinear curvature. Galerkin and multi scale methods are used for theoretical approach to one to one internal resonance. Nonlinear response characteristics of 1st, 2nd, 3rd modes are measured from the experiment for basic harmonic excitation. From the experimental result, geometrical terms of nonlinearity display light spring effect and these terms play an important role in the response characteristics of low frequency modes. Dynamic behaviors in the out of plane are also studied.

Dynamic contact of a cantilever beam with Sap at the end is discussed. The gap in a structure induces dynamic contact, and the contact problem is always accompanied by inequality constraints which mean that the solution of the structure with contact condition should satisfy variational inequality. Inequality, but, can be reduced to equality condition considering convex penalty function. In this paper, formulation of a beam with contact is derived using quasi convex penalty function. General coordinate solution which is needed to increase computational efficiency is applied. Nonlinear behavior of a beam with rigid and elastic contact condition was discussed.

To improve the riding comfort of high speed trains, it needs active suspension system for railway more and more. In Japan, the high speed train, Shinkansen has adopted semi active suspension system and now it is running in the main trunk. In Korea, Koeran Train Express (KTX) is opened to commercial traffic and Korea High speed Railway (HSR350) is being developed. So the vibration control of the high speed train becomes important. In Seoul, several railway depots are located at the places where a public can easily access. Since a depot occupy a large amount of land itself, it is natural to use those sites for a public building construction such as an apartment complex or a transportation terminal, as an example. Most of the buildings on a depot, however, are exposed to vibration problems, because foundations are excited from the dynamic loading whenever heavy trains pass on the track. Severe vibration may cause a damage to building structures and a troublesome to a community. In this paper, some vibration practices have been examined in order to resolve the vibration problems. First, a critical speed of a train in a railway depot is evaluated. Then, a structural effect on the transmission of a vibration energy has been investigated. Finally, practical approaches to reduce the vibration level have been proposed. In this first half part of the paper, the focus has been on the critical speed and a structural transmission phenomena.

While recent display devices are becoming light and slim, the size of a screen is especially the important issue in the field of display devices. Furthermore, it is also required that the projection TV, a large screen display device, be able to represent higher resolutions as the digital broadcasting is set off. In order to realize high resolutions in a DLP projection TV, the number of pixel on DMD should be increased. However, a large number of pixels make it difficult to realize resulting small sized pixels and this cause the increase in cost. Therefore, we propose a simple and improved pixel enhancement actuator using the existing DMD by offsetting half pixels repeatedly in the vertical direction.

Load/Unload(L/UL) technology includes the benefits, that is, increased areal density, reduced power consumption and improved shock resistance contrary to contact start stop(CSS). It has been widely used in portable hard disk drive and will become the key technology for developing the small form factor hard disk drive. The main objectives of L/UL are no slider disk contact or no media damage. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL systems. In this paper, we focus on the effect of the ramp profile. We can find out the lateral velocities in L/UL process through experiments and simulations for force of voice coil motor and friction force on ramp. And then, we will gain the optimal design of ramp slope to maintain the minimum clearance of suspension dimple and slider with FE model. In special, after finding the point at which air bearing breaks and designing the ramp, we will identify the results for improving unload performance.

This paper presents a highly efficient HDD (Hard Disk Drive) spindle motor with a passive magnetic thrust bearing and a fluid dynamic journal bearing and its effectiveness is verified through experiment. It eliminates the mechanical friction loss of a thrust bearing which is around 18% of total power consumption of a 3.5' HDD spindle motor, by replacing a conventional fluid dynamic thrust bearing with a passive magnetic thrust bearing. The passive magnetic thrust bearing using permanent magnets is inherently unstable in radial direction. However, the radial fluid dynamic force of the fluid dynamic journal bearing counterbalances the radial magnetic force of magnetic thrust bearing to achieve the stability as the motor spins up. It has less or equivalent runout and less flying height than the conventional spindle motor.

This paper presents the comparison analysis of a Journal and thrust FDB (fluid dynamic bearing) and a conical FDB in a HDD spindle motor. The Reynolds equation is appropriately transformed to describe journal, thrust and conical bearing. Finite element method is applied to analyze the FDB by satisfying the continuity of mass and pressure at the interface between the hearings. The pressure field of the bearings is numerically approximated by applying the Reynolds boundary condition. The load and friction torque are obtained by integrating the pressure and the velocity gradient along the fluid film. The flying height of the spindle motor is measured to verify the proposed analytical result. This research shows that the conical bearing generates bigger load capacity and less friction torque than the journal and thrust bearing in a HDD spindle motor.

This paper presents an analytical approach to describe the variation in the vibration characteristics such as the natural frequency of a piezoelectric transducer under static pre-pressure. The transducer considered in this paper is a bolt clamped Langevin type transducer, which consists of a couple of piezoelectric discs, a couple of metal blocks for added mass effect, and a bolt to tighten them. A new analysis model for the transducer has been developed by taking into account the contact area between the piezoelectric ceramic and the metal block. The variation of the resonance frequency due to the pre-pressure has been calculated compared with other results.

In gun stabilization systems, the torque comes from the unbalance mass of gun and the base acceleration is an important source of disturbance which degrades stabilization performance. Fatigue of gear train is another important factor affecting structural safety problems. In this paper, a feedback control gain is designed by optimal control weighting to difference between motor and gun velocity, and a feedforward controller using FXLMS algorithm is adopted to investigate those problems. Experimental results show that the feedforward compensator based on FXLMS can reduce the disturbance effects. The directional convergence property according to initial conditions of the FXLMS is also shown through experiments.

This paper is concerned with the implementation of adaptive positive position feedback controller using a digital signal processor and microcontroller The main advantage of the positive position feedback controller is that it can control a natural mode of interest by tuning the filter frequency of the positive position feedback controller to the natural frequency of the target mode. However, the positive position feedback controller loses its advantage when mistuned. In this paper, the fast fourier transform algorithm is implemented on the microcontroller whereas the positive position feedback controller is implemented on the digital signal processor. After calculating the frequency which affects the vibrations of structure most the result is transferred to the digital signal processor. The digital signal processor updates the information on the frequency to be controlled so that it can cope with both internal and external changes. The proposed scheme was installed and tested using a beam equipped with piezoceramic sensor and actuator. The experimental results show that the adaptive positive position feedback controller proposed in this paper can suppress vibrations even when the target structure undergoes structural change thus validating the approach.

This paper presents a self-levelling system for a mass, which undergoes a severe acceleration, with integrated displacement feedback control. After a general description of such a system, theoretical analysis is investigated to design an active control device. That is, the self levelling system is used to reduce the 'static' deflections while isolating the 'dynamic' vibration. A computer simulation model of 45 kg with two air spring mounts is considered to predict the performance of the control system. The results showed the controller can reduce the mass's displacement to the level of 1/3-1/5. Thus the self-levelling system can be applied usefully to reduce the dispalcement of a mass which experiences a high g dynamics.

This paper is concerned with the active vibration control of a grid structure equipped with piezoceramic sensors and actuators. The grid structure is a replica of the solar panel commonly mounted on satellites, which contains complex natural mode shapes. The multi input and multi output positive position feedback controller is considered as an active vibration controller for the grid structure. A new concept, the block-inverse technique, is proposed to cope with more modes than the number of actuators and sensors. This study also deals with the stability and the spillover effect associated with the application of the multi-input multi-output positive position feedback controller based on the block inverse technique. It was found that the theories developed in this study are capable of predicting the control system characteristics and its performance. The new multi-input multi-output positive position feedback controller was applied to the test structure using a digital signal processor and its efficacy was verified by experiments..

Noise mapping covers the whole mapping process from the collection of raw data, storage and retrieval of the data for computation/modeling, to the presentation of information related to outdoor sound levels, sound exposure, noise effects or numbers of affected person. This presentation can be in either a graphical or numerical form. In Europe, the Directive 2002/49/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise is now being implemented in the EU Member States. Here, The first maps for major areas are required by mid 2007, and action plans required one year later. These activities are repeated at five yearly intervals and all defined areas are incorporated in the following round of deadlines starting in 2012. The above are minimum requirements and some countries are expected to go further and faster. In this study, present status of domestic and international noise maps has been introduced to implemente the Korean noise map standard. This will help to get more convenient and, more fair result, and produce correct map at domestic level.

Much of the study has been dong on the design of dual controller that guarantee the stability and improvement of the system performance. A dual controller concept is proposed to consist of first controller estimates the control law and second controller suppresses the combined noises due to numerical error and internal noise as well. These irregular disturbances are not only increasing the fatigue but also destabilize the system because of unwanted output performance. The 'stochastic controller' is used to suppress the irregular random disturbance. Simulation is conducted to reveal that the proposed dual stochastic controller is highly efficient one to control a system hybrid noises.

This study performed an physical analysis on the characteristics of urban environmental sound divided into three parts depending on their features. Object sounds were classified into traffic sound, waster sound and spatial sound. Traffice sound was selected because it is dominant sound in urban environment, and water sound is selected because it generally supplies pleasantness in contrast to traffic sound, Finally spatial sound was considered because it represents sound in various places of city having lots of behaviors and types of sound due to them. Physcal analysis was carried out using sound quality indices based on Zwicker's loudness,
$L_{Aeq}$ (equivalent noise level), Ln(percentile noise level) and other acoutical attributes applied to previous study. Through the analysis, this study aims to compare the acoustical characteristics of urban environmental sound and to provide fundamental data for the evaluation of urban environmental sound. -
In environmental impact assessment, noise impact assessment usually consists of three stages surveying the existing noise levels by measurements, predicting noise levels induced by construction works and predicting noise levels after the completion of project. When predicting noise level in urban area, this method does not consider acoustic phenomena like multi reflection, diffraction and absorption due to complex topographic configuration of building and terrains. For the purpose, a noise mapping tool is utilized to produce a series of noise maps, which are those for the present, for the works of construction and for the future. For accurate noise mapping, acoustical and topographic information is essential. Standard sound power levels and directivities of various construction equipments are required and scheduling of construction processes and locations of the equipments should be provided. In the case of exceeding legal limit, mitigation measures are applied to satisfy the legal limits and subsequent noise map is obtained and checked.

In many machines handling lightweight and flexible media, such as automated teller machines and printers, the media must transit an open space. It is important to predict the static and dynamic behavior of the sheets with a high degree of reliability The nonlinear theory of the dynamic elastica has often been used to a nonlinear dynamic deflection model. In this paper, the governing equation is derived and simulated by the finite difference method. The analysis has to include aerodynamic effect for more exact behavior analysis, because the flexible media can be deformed drastically by a little force. Therefore aerodynamic force must be applied to the governing equation. Different results were obtained with and without aerodynamic effect and the resulted show that after contacting circular guide, the directions of flexible media of two cases are different.

When we analyze dynamics of a multi body system, a compliance of joints must be considered. If the virtual model for CAE(computer adied engineering) analysis is not considered compliance, the result of CAE analysis will be very different from the actual result. Especially in a biped walking robot, a compliance can be caused in joints of a walking robot, and the robot may lose walking stability. This paper proposes a compliance modeling method and the effectiveness of the compliance model is verified through experiments.

Nonlinear phenomenon shows superharmonic, subharmonic, super subharmonic and chaotic motions of the cantilever beam. Experimental observation and verification of these phenomenon carry much importance for the theoretical study as well as in it self. In the experimental cantilever beam, the chaotic motions of the beam appear as a pink noise signal in FFT analysis and as a torus structure in the oscilloscope analyzed to eventually give information of chaotic motions of the cantilever beam.

MR (Magneto Rheological) fluids are well known as a smart fluid and their application researches to control vibration have been conducted by many researchers. However, their dynamic properties have not been identified clearly yet. Therefore, the MR effect is investigated by using a rotational viscometer and a single degree of freedom system with an MR damper. The results obtained from the experimental study show that stiffness and viscous damping coefficients of the system with an MR damper are changed according to the variation of the applied current.

In this study, experimental tests for driving noise of various optical disk drives (ODD) have been performed using 1/2' microphone noise measurement system. Several new and old ODD models by different manufacturers are practically considered and compared far realistic driving conditions. Sound insulation case with absorbing material fur the present experimental tests is designed and constructed using CATIA system. It is found that average data transfer rate, operating RPM, and sound noise level seems to be different for the same opposed speed ODD by different manufacturers. Moreover, driving sound noise level can be largely affected by both tray shape and driving speed even for the same apparent data transfer rate.

The impact sound of the golf club is one of the major factors to purchase it. Sound qualify evaluation techniques are mostly developed for harmonic sounds. Sound quality metrics for the impact sound is proposed in this study. Jury test, one of the typical subjective evaluation scheme, is carried out for evaluating the sound quality of 11 different golf drivers. Above subjective classification results are assumed to be the right answers. Conventional objective evaluation methods such as Zwicker loudness sensory pleasantness are calculated. Wavelet analysis and instantaneous loudness are applied in order to evaluate the transient sounds, which shows better correlation with the results from those by jury test.

This paper describes a experimental study determining the effects of the type and loudness of introducing sounds on the amenity and the masking degree of background noise. 132 relative test sounds with 11 types of introducing sounds and 3 steps of road traffic noise were presented to 29 subjects through headphone in the laboratory experiment. Seven scale of polar adjective such as 'Strong Weak', 'Pleasant Unpleasant', 'Clear Unclear', 'Suitable Unsuitable', 'Comfortable-Discomfortable' was employed for the evaluation of amenity. And Seven scale of mono polar adjective such as 'Very-Not at all' was employed for the evaluation of masking degree against road traffic noise. The results are as follows; Green music was evaluated the highest amenity among test sounds and murmurs of a stream, signal music, song of a bird, crying of insect was showed the amenity rank of order. The softer and weaker introducing sound was evaluated more suitable and comfortable under the road traffic noise. So adequate level of introducing sounds was considered for the desirable urban soundscape. Also the louder sounds compared to background noises had greater masking effects. But similar levels of introducing sounds were recommended considering both good amenity and masking effects.

It is very difficult to reduce traffic noise level in the downtown. The best method is to improve the sound amenity of the districts, considering concept of soundscape. ?his study aims to survey the effect of introducing sound and masking to reduce the background noise level. We carried out the evaluating test for 18 introducing sounds varied S/N ratio(-5, 0, +5) in the city riverside. In these test, subjects evaluated the sound environment with five bipolar adjective scales. It was evaluated that introducing sounds improved the sound environment and that S/N + 5dB was very appropriate to mask the background noise. But the hearing level was suggested to be S/N 0 dB or less.

The introduction of the sound based on the soundscape concept has the effect to offer comfortable sound environments at the public spaces by masking undesired ones and to identify the spaces. Sound installation, sound sculptor and the soundscape are used for these purpose, but the most important factors to be considered therein are to determine what kind of sounds to offer and how to adjust them to the changing circumstances. But, installing, maintaining and adjusting the soundscape system directly in the field will ensue numerous problems as well as high costs. And, even if it was epochal and novel when the soundscape is first installed at a space, new different sound environment is necessary to continue the effectiveness as time goes. Thus, this study aims at devising the instrument system that has the artificial intelligence, enables to remote control, with a great ease, numerous variables, reproduce most agreeable sound sources, and can produce the proper sound fit to the space automatically and spontaneously.

Vibration in Engine module could be reduced by introducing a balance shaft module which has one or more unbalanced rotors. The unbalanced rotor is unbalanced in one direction that act as a opposite direction of the inertia force or moment triggered by engine component so that the largest order factor in vibration is efficiently decreased The ability of balance shaft to reduce the order element of engine component is investigated by a vehicle testing that is focused on comparing the vibration with balance shaft to that of without balance shaft. One of the commonly adapted balance shaft is tested by modal scheme for indemnifying the dynamic characteristics and an, the modal information is used for a clue to design the balance shaft module. The essential equation deriving the design parameters of unbalanced rotor is also presented for two cases, 3 in-ling and 4 in-ling cylinder model. Finally, the overall design process is explained with flow chart.

Among many auditory feelings for the vehicle interior noise, booming is considered as the most important nuisance to the passenger and developer. Because the main source of booming noise is a power train system including engine, in general, it consists of tonal components related to fundamental engine rotation and its harmonics including the firing frequency. Therefore, it is demanded to extract the effective tonal components only by using pitch extraction algorithm based on the place theory enable to find aurally relevant tonal components. However, there is a difference between booming sensation and pitch perception according to frequency change of tonal component. In this study, subjective listening test using a tracking method was performed to find the difference limen for just noticeable change of booming sensation in frequency. 20 Koreans and 10 Japanese were participated in this test and the results obtained from Koreans and Japanese were compared with each other. Finally, 5Hz was determined as the difference limen for just noticeable change of booming sensation in frequency, and by applying this value to booming analysis using pitch concept, it was confirmed that the degree of prediction of booming sensation was improved.

Silencers are extensively used for reducing noise in an exhaust system of internal combustion Engine and fluid machineries. The prediction and measurement of the transmission loss as the acoustic performance of silencers are important in early design stage. In the measurement of transmission loss, the semi-anechoic terminations are general used for reducing unwanted effects by reflecting wave. However it is very hard to remove reflecting wave perfectly. So the research about the error made by reflecting wave is important. The analysis about errors made by reflections and modification techniques are proposed. For an application example, the diesel particulate filter (DPF) is chosen. The transmission loss of DPF is measured with and without considerations of reflecting wave.

The reduction of the Vehicle interior noise has been the main interest of NVH engineers. The driver's perception on the vehicle noise is affected largely by psychoacoustic characteristic of the noise as well as the SPL. In particular, the HVAC sound among the vehicle interior noise has been reflected sensitively in the side of psychology. In previous study, we have developed to verify identification of source for the vehicle HVAC system through multiple-dimensional spectral analysis. Also we carried out objective assessments on the vehicle HVAC noises and subjective assessments have been already performed with 30 subjects. In this study, the linear regression models were obtained for the subjective evaluation and the sound quality metrics. The regression procedure also allows you to produce diagnostic statistics to evaluate the regression estimates including appropriation and accuracy. Appropriation of regression model is necessary to
$R^2$ value and F-value. And testing for regression model is necessary to Independence, Homoscedesticity and Normality. Also we selected optimum layout of damping material using Taguchi method. As a result of application, sound quality is improved by more quiet, powerful, expensive, smooth. -
A subjective index of sound quality when it hit him is required since human listening is very sensitive and complex. Sound quality evaluation it leads consequently rightly in each situation and it composes a sound quality factor. But one of the levels in interest frequency range is substitute we cannot see the tendency of frequency substitute at whole that is executes a clear voice evaluation. Design of experiment is used and dividing 12 equally in frequency domain, the sound quality using sharpness and annoyance is performed by modifying each of frequency domains. Design of experiment method reduces much number experiment very effectively and each main effect of domain solution analysis, such as a case of sharpness and annoyance, the change of domain (increase and decrease of sound pressure level, or change nil) can grasp a type of effect should have influenced to a sound quality, and it will be able to select the objective frequency domain which hits to the sound quality. Through these obtained results the physical changes of level at arbitrary frequency domain sensitivity can be adapted.

The resilient mounts of a diesel engine installed onboard a ship should be designed for both static and dynamic loads. If possible, the resonance frequencies of the six rigid body modes of the installation and the flexible modes of the engine support structure should not lie within the engine operation range. In this paper a design criterion is proposed to evaluate an isolation system which involves the summation of dynamic forces transmitted through the resilient mounts and elastic potential energy index stored in the mounts. A case study is also presented in which a diesel engine generator, which had an elastic foundation and was mounted in a 5500 TEU container vessel, was studied both theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical analysis of the test model was performed by using a single mass 6 degree of freedom system. Actual measurements of mechanical vibration of the Engine and its foundation onboard were carried out, which showed the importance of including the flexibility of the engine support structure in the mode

An optimization formulation of unconstrained damping treatment on beams is proposed to minimize vibration responses using a numerical search method. The fractional derivative model is combined with RUK's equivalent stiffness approach in order to represent nonlinearity of complex modulus of damping materials with frequency and temperature. The loss factors of partially covered unconstrained beam are calculated by the modal strain energy method. Vibration responses are calculated by using the modal superposition method, and of which design sensitivity formula with respect to damping layout is derived analytically. Plugging the sensitivity formula into optimization software, we can determine optimally damping treatment region that gives minimum forced response under a given boundary condition. A numerical example shows that the proposed method is very effective in minimizing vibration responses with unconstrained damping layer treatment.

Nonlinear dynamics of active piezolaminated plates are investigated with respect to the thermopiezoelastic behaviors. For largely deformed structures with small strain, the incremental total Lagrangian formulation is presented based on the virtual work principles. A multi field layer wise finite shell element is proposed for assuring high accuracy and non-linearity of displacement, electric and thermal fields. For dynamic consideration of thermopiezoelastic snap through phenomena, the implicit Newmark's scheme with the Newton-Raphson iteration is implemented for the transient response of various piezolaminated models with symmetric or eccentric active layers. The bifurcate thermal buckling of symmetric structural models is first investigated and the characteristics of piezoelectric active responses are studied for finding snap through piezoelectric potentials and the load path tracking map. The thermoelastic stable and unstable postbuckling, thermopiezoelastic snap through phenomena with several attractors are proved using the nonlinear time responses for various initial conditions and damping loss factors. Present results show that thermopiezoelastic snap through phenomena can result in the difficulty of buckling and postbuckling control of intelligent structures.

This paper proposes a simple actuator with a spherical rotor for robot's eyeball, which has two degrees of freedom. It features that both permanent magnets and coils are equipped in a stator and the spherical rotor with steps on its surface is driven by reaction of Lorentz force acting on the fixed coils. Such a structure is helpful to design a simple actuator and particularly suitable for a spherical actuator. Based on the FEM analysis, design parameters such as the sizes of core and permanent magnet, the width of step, coil turns and maximum current, are determined so as to maximize the torque and rotating angle. For the experimental verification of the feasibility, a prototype is manufactured and its operating characteristicsareinvestigated.

This paper is concerned with the application of perturbation method to the dynamic analysis of space structure floating in space. In dealing with the dynamics of space structure, the use of Lagrange's equations of motion in terms of quasi-coordinates were suggested to derive hybrid equations of motion for rigid-body translations and elastic vibrations. The perturbation method is then applied to the hybrid equations of motion along with discretization by means of admissible functions. This process is very tiresome. Recently, a new approach that applies the perturbation method to the Lagrange's equations directly was proposed and applied to the two-dimensional floating structure. In this paper, we propose the application of the perturbation method to the Lagrange's equations of motion in terms of quasi-coordinates. Theoretical derivations show the efficacy of the proposed method.

Since soil structure interactions are one of the most important subjects in the structural/foundation engineering, much study concerning the soil structure interactions had been carried out. One of typical structures related to the soil structure interactions is the strip foundation which is basically defined as the beam or strip rested on or supported by the soils. At the present time, lack of studies on dynamic problems related to the strip foundations is still found in the literature. From these viewpoint this paper aims to theoretically investigate dynamics of the parabolic strip foundations and also to present the practical engineering data for the design purpose. Differential equations governing the free, out o plane vibrations of such strip foundations are derived, in which effects of the rotatory and torsional inertias and also shear deformation are included although the warping of the cross-section is excluded. Governing differential equations subjected to the boundary conditions of free-free end constraints are numerically solved for obtaining the natural frequencies and mode shapes by using the numerical integration technique and the numerical method of nonlinear equation.

In this paper, we studied about the dynamic behavior of a cracked rotating cantilever beam. The influences of a rotating angular velocity, the crack depth and the crack position on the dynamic behavior of a cracked cantilever beam have been studied by the numerical method. The cracked cantilever beam is modeled by the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations. The lateral tip displacement and the axial tip deflection of a rotating cantilever beam is more sensitive to the rotating angular velocity than the depth and position of crack. Totally, as the crack depth is increased, the natural frequency of a rotating cantilever beam is decreased in the first and second mode of vibration.

Acoustic loads generated by a rocket propulsion system cause severe random vibrations on payloads. In developing a new launch vehicle, a random vibration level must be specified before the detailed design of payloads or electronic equipments. This paper deals with prediction procedures of a random vibration level on payload section of KSLV-I. The prediction is based on statistical energy analysis. In order to verify the prediction methodology, test and analysis on a sub-scale payload section are performed. The predicted results subject to very high level of acoustic loads show a good agreement with the test results performed in the high intensity acoustic chamber. The predicted random vibration level on payload section of KSLV-I is also presented in this paper.

With the advantages of large vibration energy dissipation of structures, the granular materials are used as vibration and acoustic treatments. In this case of vibro acoustic controls, a finite dynamic strength of the solid component (frame) is an important design factor. The dynamic stiffness of hollow cylindrical beams containing porous and granular materials as damping treatment was measured. Using the Rayleigh-Ritz method, the effects of damping materials on the dynamic characteristics of beams were investigated. The results suggested that the acoustic structure Interaction between the frame and the structure enhances the dissipation of the vibration energy significantly. The same methods were applied also to vibration control of sandwich panels. By filling the cavities of honeycomb cores using unconsolidated granular materials, its sound transmission toss was improved significantly.

The objective of this paper is to perform measurements of vibration intensity of a coupled beam. The propagation of flexural waves generates the out of plane vibration of the coupled beam. The longitudinal waves are generated due to the mode conversion at the structural joint of the coupled beam. The propagation of longitudinal waves generates the in plane vibration of the coupled beam. In order to identify the direction of vibrational power on the coupled beam, the in plane vibration intensity as well as the out of plane vibration intensity needs to be measured. The cross spectral method has been implemented to measure the in-plane vibration intensity as well as out of plane vibration intensity. The results shelved that the experimental method can be effectively used to measure the in-plane vibration intensity as well as the out of plane vibration intensity of coupled beams.

Vibration has been severly increased at the branch pipe of main steam header since the commercial operation of a nuclear power plant. Intense broad band disturbance flow at the discontinuous region such as elbow, valve or heather generates the acoustical pulsation which is propagated through the piping system. The pulsation becomes the source of low frequency vibration at piping system. If it coincide with natural frequency of the pipe system, excessive vibration is made. High level vibration due to the pressure pulsation related to high dynamic stress, and ultimately, to failure probability affects fatally the reliability and confidence of plant piping system. This paper discusses vibration effect for the branch pipe system due to acoustical pulsations by broad band disturbance flow at the large main steam header in 7nn nuclear power plant. The exciting sources and response or the piping system are investigated by using on site measurements and analytical approaches. It is identified that excessive vibration is caused by acoustical pulsations of 1.3Hz, 4.4Hz and 6.6Hz transferred from main steam header, which are coincided with fundamental natural frequencies of the piping structure. The energy absorbing restraints with additional stiffness were installed to reduce excessive vibration.

An acoustic total or partial enclosure is widely used to reduce the sound pressure level propagating from a noise source. However, the performance of the acoustic enclosure is decreased by its inherent limitations such as temperature rise or acoustic pressure build up inside the enclosed acoustic field. In general, a silencer is installed to overcome these limitations, for large amount of air can be exchanged through the silencers. In this reason, a parallel baffle type duct silencer with acoustic resonators is studied to reduce the transmitted noise from a transformer. In this silencer, the high frequency components of the transmitted noise over 360Hz are effectively absorbed by the parallel baffles and the other ones, 120 and 240 Hz, are reduced due to the presence of Helmholtz resonators. Large sound attenuation is achieved by applying the sound resonating barrier to the large transformers in a substation.

The failure of blades frequently happened in the 300MW LP turbine until now and they are maintaining the blades periodically during outage. So the blade-disk system is analysed by FEM in order to identify the main cause of failure of blade row. It is found that the stress of root's hole is highest in comparison with other parts from the result of the steady stress analysis. Also, the two dangerous frequencies which is related to the resonance condition are found in the interference diagram. one is 1,516 Hz which is related to the operating speed. The other is 2,981 Hz which is related to the 1 nozzle passing frequency. The dynamic stress analysis is per-formed to identify more accurate root cause for failure of blade row. It is confirmed that the dynamic stress of the latter is higher than one of the former. From these results, it is concluded that the former has deeply something to do with the failure of blades more than the latter. Based on versatile investigation and deliberation, the change of blade's grouping is determined to avoid the resonance condition with the operating speed. After the blade grouping is changed, the former frequency vanish completely but the latter is still in existence in the interference diagram. Fortunately, It is confirmed that the dynamic stress of the new blade grouping is lower than one of the old blade grouping. 2 years has passed since modification and the LP turbine is operated well without failure so far.

In this paper, the radiated sound pressure induced by low velocity impact is obtained by solving the Rayleigh integral equation. For structurally radiated noise, the sound field is directly coupled to the structural motion. Therefore the impact response should be analyzed. It is well known that the presence of the delamination in a composite laminate introduces a local flexibility which changes the dynamic characteristic of the structure. The 2-D simplified delamination model is used to analyze the impact response. And the 3-D non-linear finite element model is developed using gap element to avoid the overlap and penetration between the upper and lower sub-laminates at delamination region. Predicted impact response using 2-D equivalent delamination model are compared with the numerical ones from the 3-D non-linear finite element model.

This paper is a study on an optical bench satisfying stiffness and thermal pointing error requirements for LEO earth observation satellite. According to shape and stiffness requirements, optical bench type 1 is designed. Because type 1 does not satisfy the thermal pointing error requirement, an optical bench type 2 is suggested. Although the type 2 has better results than type 1, it still does not meet the thermal pointing error requirement. Using the results of optical bench type 1&2, the optical bench type 3 is finally designed, which satisfies both the stiffness and thermal pointing error requirements.

In this study, finite element modeling and structural vibration analyses of a gyrocopter have been conducted considering dynamic hub-loads due to rotating blades. For this research, 3D CATIA models for most mechanical parts are exactly prepared and assembled into the final aircraft configuration. Then the dynamic finite element model including several non-structural parts are constructed based on the exact 3D CAD data. Computational structural dynamics technique based on finite element method is applied using both MSC/NASTRAN and developed in-house code which can largely reduce the pre and postprocessing time of general transient dynamic analyses. Modal based transient and frequency response analyses are used to efficiently investigate vibration characteristics. The results include natural frequency comparison for different fuel and pilot conditions, fundamental natural mode shapes, frequency responses and transient acceleration responses of the present gyrocopter model.

Tilt rotor aircraft was developed for satisfying VSTOL (vertical short take off and landing) capability and cruise performance. However the noise generated by tilt rotor system causes one of the most serious problems. In this paper, noise characteristics of tilt rotor system in hovering flight are predicted by using free wake method and Lowson's formula. The flow field of the tilt rotor is simulated by using time marching free wake method, and the free field acoustic pressure is calculated through Lowson's formula. The predicted results are compared with experimental data at various observing positions. In the near field, they show good agreement with experimental data regardless of rotating speed and collective pitch angles of 6, 8 and 10 degree, although there are some discrepancies between prediction and experiment in the far field and at the rotating axis in the near field. It seems that the reason of these discrepancies is difference of unsteady force fluctuation between experiment and calculation.

In this paper the effect of moving mass on dynamic behavior of cracked cantilever beam on elastic foundations is presented. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's equation. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. That is, the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section and is derived by applying fundamental fracture mechanics theory. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture. As the depth of the crack is increased, the tip displacement of the cantilever beam is increased. When the crack depth is constant the frequency of a cracked beam is proportional to the spring stiffness.

The in-plane vibration response of a clamped circular plate should be predicted in many applications. Up to now, papers on the in-plane vibration of rectangular plate are published. However, analytical derivation on the in-plane vibration of the clamped circular plate is not carried out. Therefore, the in-plane vibration of the clamped circular plate is the concern of this paper. In order to derive the equations of motion for the clamped circular plate in the cylindrical coordinate, the kinetic energy and potential energy for the in-plane behavior are obtained by us ing the stress-strain-displacement expressions. Application of Hamilton's principle leads to two sets of differential equations. These displacement equations were highly coupled. It is possible to obtain a simpler set of equations by introducing Helmholtz decomposition. Substituting them into the coupled differential equations, we obtain the uncoupled equations of motion. In order to solve them, we assume that the solutions are harmonic. Then, they lead to the wave equations. Using the separation of variable, we obtain the general solutions for the equations. Based on the solutions, the displacements for r and
$\theta$ direction are assumed. Finally we obtain the frequency equation for the clamped circular plate by the application of boundary conditions. The derived equation is compared with the finite element analysis for validation by using the some numerical examples. -
This paper presents a robust optimal design method for a periodic structure type of MEMS resonator that is vulnerable to mode localization. The robust configuration of such a MEMS resonator to fabrication error is implemented by changing the regularity of periodic structure. For the mathematical convenience, the MEMS resonator is first modeled as a multi pendulum system. The index representing the measure of mode variation is then introduced using the perturbation method and the concept of modal assurance criterion. Finally, the optimal intentional mistuning, minimizing the expectation of the irregularity measure for each substructure, is determined for the normal distributed fabrication error and its robustness in the design of MEMS resonator to the fabrication error is demonstrated with numerical examples.

The purpose of this paper is that investigates the dynamic behavior characteristic of W.T.S(Wind turbine System) and carries out the evaluation analysis during operating W.T.S. To investigate the dynamic behavior characteristic of W.T.S, the experiments to measure vibration of the blade from the attached accelerometer on the flap and edge section of the blade that is one of the most important elements of dynamic characteristic of W.T.S are performed. Natural frequency and mode shape are calculated with commercial program (ANSYS) using the measured vibration acceleration that receives the signal with F.F.T Analyzer from the accelerometer. For validation of these experiments, the finite element analysis is performed with commercial F.E.M program (ANSYS) on the basis of the natural frequency and mode shape. The results indicate that experimental values have good agreements with the finite element analysis.

For the accurate measurement of acoustic properties of a surface, efforts have been made to reduce errors caused by external disturbance. If the reflection coefficient is considered as a transfer function between reflected wave and incident wave, causality is required between them and the reflection coefficient should be of minimum phase. In this thesis, the minimum phase condition is applied to measure correct reflection coefficient. The reflection coefficient is approximated as a rational function in the Z domain by minimizing the sum square error. Then the minimum phase reflection coefficient is reconstructed using the distribution of poles and zeros of the reflection coefficient model. The incident wave, the reflected wave and the impulse response function of causality are recalculated from the minimum phase reflection coefficient for further applications.

Brake noise has been one of the most difficult concerns in the automotive industry. Although substantial research has been conducted to predict and eliminate brake noise, there is yet no method to completely suppress brake noise. Furthermore, little effort has been made to improve noise and vibration characteristics of the railway brake system. The amount of sound energy radiated from the railway brake system is much larger than that from the automobile, and it causes discomfort of passengers in the station. In this paper, noise and vibration caused by the braking force of the KTX vehicle have been measured and analysed. Results show that noise level increases abruptly right before a train comes to a complete stop. Furthermore, typical characteristics of the disk brake squeal have been observed.

A Helmholtz resonator is one of noise control elements widely used in many practical applications. The resonator has very high absorption at resonance frequency but the frequency bandwidth is very small. Therefore many kinds of additional resistive screens have been applied to the resonator's neck in order to increase the bandwidth. This paper discusses the absorptive characteristics of a Helmholtz resonator damped by a flexible porous screen in form of wire mesh. First, various experimental results are introduced and studied. Secondly, the effect of the resistive screen is theoretically predicted. It is shown that the distance between the screen and aperture affects on the resonance frequency as well as the absorption of the system.

The purpose of this study is on the prediction of the acoustic performance of the lined rectangular plenum chamber which can be used in the HVAC systems. The lined plenum chamber is modeled as a piston driven rectangular tube without mean flow and the acoustic pressure in the lined chamber is obtained by superposing the three dimensional pressure due to each of uniformly and harmonically fluctuating pistons. The arbitrary locations of inlet/outlet ports as well as the acoustic higher order modes generated at the area discontinuities of the port chamber interfaces are taken into consideration. The four-pole parameters can be derived by imposing the proper boundary conditions on each inlet and outlet ports. The lining material on the internal wall is assumed to be a bulk-reacting model. A single weak variation statement which satisfies the fluctuating rigid piston condition and the pressure and displacement continuity condition at the interface between the lining material and the airway was developed. The set of cosine functions were used as the admissible function when applying the Rayleigh-Ritz method. Computed results are compared with those predicted by using the locally-reacting lining material and experimental results, respectively. There are a good agreement shown between the results by the Rayleigh-Ritz method and the experiment results. The derived transfer matrices can be easily combined with other four-pole parameters of different types of mufflers for the calculation of the whole system performance.

The nonlinear characteristics of a damper is directly related to the car behavior and performance, both for handling and comfort. So considering the nonlinear characteristics of a damper such as hysteresis is important to analyze the dynamic characteristics of a car suspension. In this study, a mathematical nonlinear dynamic damper model based on experimental data is devised to estimate the nonlinear parameters of a NEW EF-SONATA damper using the least square method. The devised nonlinear dynamic damper model is used to analyze the reaction force of a NEW EF-SONATA suspension using ADAMS. The simulation results are good agreement with the experimental data than those of the linear model.

Dynamic stability of an axially accelerating beam stucture is investigated in this paper. The equations of motion of a fixed-free beam are derived using the hybrid deformation variable method and the assumed mode method. Unstable regions due to periodical acceleration are obtained by using the Floquet's theory. Stability diagrams are presented to illustrate the influence of the dimensionless acceleration, amplitude, and frequency. Also, buckling occurs when the acceleration exceeds a certain value. It is found that relatively targe unstable regions exist around the first bending natural frequency, twice the first bending natural frequency, and twice the second bending natural frequency. The validity of the stability diagram is confirmed by direct numerical integration of the equations of motion.

The transient response of the beam induced by the impulsive force and the rigid body motion is calculated based on hybrid deformation variable modeling method by applying the Rayleigh-Ritz assumed mode method. The stiffness variation effect caused by the rigid body motion is considered in this modeling. The effects of the impulsive force position and the angular velocity on the transient responses of the beam are investigated through numerical studies.

Increasing population in the cities, it has been demanded that urban planner should consider environmental problem. In this regard compact city has been strongly suggested as an environmental urban form which can reduce energy consumption. However, compact city can also cause noise problem, because residential buildings have to be located near roads and railways. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary for urban planner to examine the types of roads and railways before they are established. Noise map is able to be useful tool for the task.

Noise map is a presentation of existing data or predicted noise situation in terms of noise indicator. However, it has shortcoming for assessing the number of people exposed, or the number of dwellings affected to any relevant limit values of noise level in certain areas. In this study, so called over-ride value noise mapping is proposed to make up for the shortcoming by using over-ride function of object-oriented programming and it is to show the guard of the area where it is satisfied the standard of option, or it is not satisfactory. Over-ride value noisemap data is combined with topography layer, population and house statistics, and GIS space statistical analysis. The over-ride value noise mapping can also he applied to make the road traffic noisemap, the railroad noisemap, the aircraft noisemap, and the industrial site noisemap This can express noise damage information more exactly.

Diesel generator sets with resilient mounts often experience resonances by major excitations which come from diesel engine and their foundation with rigid body modes. Because their natural frequency is determined by moment of inertia and stiffness of resilient mount vibration problems are resolved by changing location and stiffness of resilient mounts. But the calculated natural frequencies are inaccurate due to uncertainty of the inertia and mount stiffness. So this result can be useless on the design stage. In this paper, the stiffness of mount is evaluated on result from mount stiffness test in laboratory and generator set vibration test and a simple calculation method for moment of inertia is proposed. Based on these data, the procedure to select optimized mount stiffness and location on the design stage is set up.

The dynamic response due to the unbalance and crack and the quasi-static response due to gravity are analytically derived based on the complex transfer matrix. The additional slope is expressed as function of the bending moment at crack position based on the fracture mechanics concept, and inversely the bending moment is expressed as function of the additional slope at the crack position. At each angle step during the shaft revolution, the additional slope and bending moment are calculated by an iterative method. The transient behavior is considered by introducing Fourier series expansion concept for the additional slope. Simulation is carried out for a simple rotor similar to those available in the literature and comparison of the basic crack behavior is shown. Using the additional slope, the cracked rotor behavior is explained with the crack depth increased: the magnitude of the additional slope increases and the closed crack duration during a revolution decreases as the crack depth increases. The direction of unbalance is also shown as a factor to affect the crack breathing. Whirl orbits are shown near the sub-critical speed ranges of the rotor.

In this paper, dual rotor disk configuration with a coreless stator is proposed for the Lorentz force type integrated motor bearing system. An experimental compensation for the effects of high order harmonics is performed using the digital controller of the experimental setup. The runout profile and rotor unbalance are also identified by the extended influence coefficient method. The experimental results confirm that this compensation method effectively attenuates the rotor vibration all over the operating range of rotational speed.

Asymmetry of rotor systems is an important factor for identification of dynamic characteristics including the stability and response of rotors and for condition monitoring. In this work, asymmetry of rotors is identified by applying curve-fitting method to the directional frequency response functions (dFRFs), which are known as a powerful tool for detecting the presence and degree of asymmetry. This method minimizes least square error between analytical and measured dFRFs by iteratively updating physical parameters associated with rotor asymmetry. The effectiveness of the identification method is demonstrated by experiments with a laboratory test rotor.

According to the national space program in Korea, is satellites will be launch into space up to 2015. Especially, KARI is going to develope of its own a high resolution camera of less than 1m to be mounted on next Multipurpose Satellite. When performing testing of large spacecraft or hardware that will be launched into orbit, it is necessary to conduct a testing with space-simulated environment. To achieve this requirement, thermal vacuum chamber is generally used. KARI has been developed a very Large Thermal Vacuum Chamber(LTVC) from 2003 to accomodate future space program, such as KOMPSAT, COMS, and Launch vehicles. This new facility will be used to qualify the first self developed High Resolution Camera, which will be loaded on KOMPSAT-3. To perform an optical test for space camera, it is necessary to provide vibration free environment. Thus the vibration responses on the optical table due to external vibration should be minimized by using a special isolation system. In this paper, we propose the concept design of vibration isolation system for the development of the high resolution camera.

Power Flow Analysis (PFA) is developed for the effective predictions of frequency-averaged vibrational response in medium-to-high frequency ranges. In PFA, the power coefficients of semi-infinite structure and for-field energy density are used to predict the vibrational responses of structures. Generally, at high frequencies, PFA can predict narrow-band frequency-averaged vibrational responses of built-up structures. However, in low- to medium frequency ranges, the dynamic responses obtained by PFA represent broad-band frequency-averaged vibrational energy densities. For the prediction of vibrational response variance in Power Flow Finite Element Method (PFFEM), the variances of input power and joint element matrix describing structural coupling relationship are derived. Finally, for the validity of developed formulation, numerical examples for two co-planer plates are performed and the vibrational response variance of the structure are compared with the results of classical and PFFEM solutions.

The vibration analysis of damped sandwich beam is conducted using finite element method. The equation of motion presented by Mead and Markus is used to formulate FEM. Also as the thickness of the core in the damped sandwich beam goes to zero, conventional beam theory based on the transformed-section method and the equation of Mead and Markus are compared. According to the change of thickness and loss factor of the core, the forced frequency response of beam is calculated and discussed. And then using the half-power band width method, the damping ratio of each mode is calculated and discussed about each case.

Free vibration characteristics of a curved pipe conveying fluid is studied when the pipe is clamped at both ends. Using the perturbation method, the non-linear governing equations divided into two parts; the steady state non-linear equilibrium equations and the linearized equations of motion in the neighborhood of the equilibrium position. The natural frequencies are computed from the linearized equations of motion. In this study, the equilibrium positions are determined by two types of equations, i.e., (1) the non-linear equations, and (2) the equations obtained by neglecting the non-linear terms. The natural frequencies obtained from the non-linear equilibrium equations are compared to those obtained from the linearized equilibrium equations. From the results, as the fluid velocity increases, the equilibrium position should be determined from the nonlinear equations for the vibration analysis of the curved pipe conveying fluid.

The Aerial platform Truck is widely used for work in high place with the aerial platform. The most important thing is that worker's safety and worker must be able to work with trustworthiness so it needs to be verified its stiffness, deflection of boom, and dynamic condition concerned with a rollover accident. It should have an analytical exactitude because it is directly linked with the worker safety. In this point, we are trying to develop a proper CAE analysis model concerned with a rollover safety, bending stress and deflection for load.
