Prediction models currently being used for road traffic noise in apartment are equation of NIER, HW-NOISE of Korea Expressway Corporation, FHWA of United States, CRTN of United Kingdom, NMPB of France, ASJ RTN-Model 2003 of Japan and ISO 9613-1, 2 as a international standard. ISO 9613 species an engineering method for calculating the attenuation of sound during propagation outdoors in order to predict the levels of environmental noise at a distance from a variety of sources. This study, prior to investigation of every prediction methods listed above, aims to examine the model internationally standardized and to establish a reference for the prediction of road traffic noise in apartment.

Apartment housing is a widely-spread type in Korean housing market. Nevertheless, it has caused serious problems such as traditional community corruption, unsafe structure, defects and litigation from noise. Noise, especially in concrete structure for apartment housing, is hardly controlled in proper to prevent sound transmission between upper and lower families with existing system, In foreign countries, there are floating floor systems to enhance the noise control performance in multi-family housing. Therefore, this study aims to analyze subjective responses on sound characteristics in residential buildings. We analyzed the residential response and the quantities of measured data from environmental noise. The results of this study will be useful to provide guideline to make policy of environmental noise and criteria.

There are many place of business in complex building, and recently claims of noise have increased in those buildings. It is most desirable reducing the noise problems to establish the noise criteria considering the noise source and the receiving place of business, which are derived from the dose-response of noise and results of the actual condition. The degree of response to the transmission noise could be changed with background noise level in the receiving stores. In this research, the subjective evaluation for three different background level in receiving place of business or rooms were investigated from subjective tests. The eight business sound source including aerobic music were used for the test.

Floor impact sound insulation performance of floor resilient materials produced by T company were tested in T company's lab. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1) Thickness changes of materials or arrangement order of materials are not much influential in floor impact sound insulation performance. 2) PS sheet and PP sheet upper part location is optimal association in reducing sound at low frequencies. 3) Composition of different form resilient materials' performance is better than that of similar form composition's.

To develop floor impact sound resilient materials of apartment house effectively, floor impact sound insulation performance test lab. was designed and constructed in T company. Introducing specification and basic performance of this lab. could be helpful in plan and design of another lab. Floor space size of this lab. is
$4.2m{\times}5.5m$ and this size is similar with that of living room of usual apartment house's (about$100m^2$ ) and the height of lab. is 2.4m. Slab thickness is designed by 180mm. Frequency characteristics is similar to general apartment house. Reverberation time of sound receiving room displays 1.26sec in 125Hz by establishing sound-absorbing materials. For light weight impact sound insulation performance of concrete bare floor structure is estimated by$L_{i,AW}\;=\;73$ and for heavy weight is estimated by$L_{i,Fmax,AW}\;=\;50$ . Sound pressure level distribution of sound receiving room is ranged very uniformly. With these results, floor impact sound resilient materials could be evaluated and the results could be trusted by comparison tests. -
This study proposes a optimized shape of diffuser profile through investigating the scattering and diffusion characteristics of diffusers. The scattering coefficient according to ISO 17497-1 evaluates uniformity of reverberant sound field of late reflections, while the diffusion coefficient according to AES-4id-2001 evaluates polar response of early reflections. Thus both scattering and diffusion characteristics should contribute to design shape of diffusers to maximize physical performance. To find out design method, the previous results on hemisphere diffusers are reviewed. The frequency characteristics of scattering coefficients depended on the structural height of the diffusers, while amount of scattering coefficients depended on the surface coverage density of the diffusers. However absorptive properties also increased with augment of surface coverage density, thus optimum coverage density should be considered. For the directional diffuser, three types of 2D-diffusers are proposed; semicylinder of h=5mm, semi-truncated cone of h=5-25mm and semicylinder of h=25mm. As results, diffusers with the maximum height of 25mm show the highest scattering coefficients, while diffuser of h=5mm shows high scattering coefficients only at the high-frequency bands. Diffusion coefficient will be investigated for diffusive properties of the early reflection.

This study investigates the effect of geometrical shape of concert halls, with variation in the shape and location of diffusers. The acoustical characteristics both in the audience area and on the stage 1:50 scale models of shoebox and fan-shaped halls. It was found that the front side walls affect sound diffusion. The 1:50 scale model based on the Boston Symphony Hall was used for monaural impulse response measurements for calculation of RT, EDT, C80, G and ST1. In addition, calculating the numbers and amplitudes of reflection rays were applied to quantify diffusion phenomena.

In this study, acoustic diffusers were designed as to the ISO method, which measured the random-incidence scattering coefficient of surfaces in a diffuse field. The diffusers which were made of GFRG (Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum), consisted of the cubes with different height and width. The height was from 50 to 250 mm and the maximum height was at the center of the diffusers to provide the early reflections. The surfaces were irregularly designed in order to add the lateral reflections. The scattering coefficient of the diffusers was measured in a 1;10 reverberation chamber, but the absorption coefficient was measured in a real scale reverberation chamber. The result of the scattering coefficient was compared to the hemisphere diffusers and the absorption coefficient was compared to ISO 354 data. To validate the measurement results, the scattering coefficient of the diffusers will be measured in a real scale reverberation chamber.

다목적 공간 및 공연장은 공연 또는 강연을 위한 공간뿐만 아니라 상점, 식당 및 체육 공간 등 다양한 용도의 공간이 인접되고 있다. 다양한 공간이 인접할 경우 기존의 다목적 공연장에서는 발생하지 않았던 다양한 소음 진동 문제들이 발생한다. 본 연구는 강연 및 공연을 위한 다목적 공간 상부에 식당 및 체육 시설로 활용되는 공간이 배치되어 바닥충격음 문제가 발생할 가능성이 있었다. 바닥충격음의 강당으로의 전달을 차단하기 위하여 기본 구조체에 대한 바닥충격음 차단성능을 측정하여 적절한 저감 대책을 수립하였다. 저감대책으로는 상층부 철골 슬래브와 강당의 철골 구조의 구조적 분리, 유연한 마감재 적용, 슬래브로의 충격진동 차단을 위한 제진재 적용, 이중천장 구조 및 천장내부 흡음구조 형성 등의 종합적인 대책을 수립하였다. 이를 통해 경량충격음 및 중량충격음을 효율적으로 차단하였다. 또한 강당 공간은 강연 및 집회의 공간으로 활용될 수 있도록 하기 위하여 적절한 잔향시간 및 음성 명료도 확보가 필요하다. 플러터 에코, 과도한 잔향시간, 음의 사각지대 등을 최소화하기 위하여 측벽 형태 개선, 천장 반사판 형태를 개선하였다. 또한 측벽에서 진동 등의 영향으로 발생되는 떨림현상을 억제하기 위하여 측벽 내부를 흡음재로 충전하는 등의 대책을 수립하여 적용하였다.

This paper deals with the free vibrations of elastica shaped arches with constant arc length. The elastica shaped arches are formed by the post-buckled column whose arc length is always constant. The equations governing free, in-plane vibration of general arch in open literature are modified for applying the free vibrations of elastica shaped arch and solved numerically to obtain frequencies and mode shapes for hinged-hinged end constraints. The effects of rotatory inertia, rise to span length ratio and slenderness ratio on natural frequencies are presented. The frequencies of elastica and parabolic shaped arches are compared. Also, typical mode shapes are presented in figures.

The differential equations governing free vibrations of the elastic arches with rectangular hollow section are derived in polar coordinates, in which the effect of rotatory inertia is included. Natural frequencies is computed numerically for circular arches with both clamped ends and both hinged ends. The lowest four natural frequency parameters are reported, with the rotatory inertia, as functions of three non-dimensional system parameters: the breadth ratio, the thickness ratio and the shape ratio.

The structural intensities have been applied to understand a source point and the path of vibrational energy flows in interested structures by many researchers. In this paper, a feasibility study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of a damaged beam with a inflicted open crack using the structural intensities. The damaged beam was taken as a continuous system with equivalent bending stiffness and the flexural vibrations were only considered in numerical simulation and experiments. A four(4)-transducer array was used to measure the flexural vibrations of the beam and the structural intensities were estimated by means of cross spectral density method. As a result, the magnitude changes of the structural intensities could be observed in the vicinity of the damage location and a damage index was newly proposed to identify the damage zone. It has been confirmed that the measurement of the structural intensities was simple and effective method to find out the damage zone.

This paper presents the procedure and the results of modal identification testing of a seismic monitoring system central processing unit cabinet for a nuclear power plant. This paper also provides a model updating for making effective analytical modeling of cabinet-type electrical equipment by comparing the test results with the analysis results. From the test results and their interpretation, modal properties (modal frequency, mode shape, and modal damping) of the specimen were satisfactorily identified. However, the analysis results may need to study further to find the effective and presentative model for the cabinet-type electrical equipment. This paper just presents the first stage of the research project "Development of dynamic behavior analysis technique of dynamic structure system" which is trying to build the lumped mass beam stick model even their results do not agree well with the test results.

In this paper, we propose a bearing redundant coordinates and decoupled PD controller for 5-axes active magnetic bearing system, which consists of two bearing parts such as three-pole hybrid active magnetic bearing for stabilize the radial direction and ring-type permanent magnetic bearing stabilizing in axial and tilting motion. Based on derived system equation with decoupled control scheme, we conduct the modal analysis and measure of modal controllability and observability.

This paper is concerned with the active vibration control of elevator by means of the active roller guide. To this end, a dynamic model for the horizontal vibration of the elevator consisting of a supporting frame, cage and active roller guides was derived using the energy method. Free vibration analysis was then carried out based on the equations of motion. Active vibration controller was designed based on the equations of motion using the LQR theory and applied to the numerical model. Rail irregularity and wind pressure variation were considered as external disturbance in the numerical simulations. The numerical results show that the active vibration control of elevator is possible.

In this paper the electromagnetic shunt damper was newly employed for vibration suppression of the flexible structures. The electromagnetic shunt damper consists of a coil and a permanent magnet. The ends of the coil were connected to the RLC shunt circuit. The numerical solutions of resonant frequency of the shunt circuits were calculated by using Pspice. The vibration and damping characteristics of the flexible beams with the electromagnetic shunt damper were investigated by tuning the circuit parameters. Also, the effect of the magnetic intensity on the shunt damping was studied with the variation of the gap between the aluminum beam and the permanent magnet. Present results show that the magnet shunt damper can be successfully applied to reduce the vibration of the flexible structures.

This paper is concerned with the development of the piezoelectric energy harvesting(PEH) device for ubiquitous sensor node(USN). The USN needs auxiliary power to lengthen its operational life. In this study, the piezoelectric energy harvesting system consisting of a cantilever with a tip mass and piezoelectric wafer was investigated in detail both theoretically and experimentally. The dynamic model for the addressed system was derived using the assumed mode method. The resulting equations of motion were expressed in matrix form, which had never been developed before. The power output characteristics of the PEH was then calculated and discussed. Various experiments were carried out to investigate the charging characteristics of electrical components. Theoretical and experimental results showed that the PEH was able to charge a battery with ambient vibrations but still needed an effective mechanism which can convert mechanical energy to electrical energy and an optimal electric circuit which dissipates small energy.

Medium and high speed marine diesel engines have been widely used as prime mover in small car ferries and fishing vessels with reduction gear. These propulsion shafting system should be installed and matched the elastic coupling between engine and reduction gear to isolate the vibratory torque. In this paper, the elastic dynamic characteristics of coupling with rubber type circular segments is confirmed by the theoretical analysis using the FEM and the hydraulic exciting test at shop. And its adaptation is investigated in the torsional vibration test in factory shop.

In this paper, a experimental and theoretical study is carried out on the hydroelastic vibration for a rectangular bottom and side plate of tank. It is assumed that the tank wall is clamped along the plate edges. The fluid velocity potential is used for the simulation of fluid domain and to obtain the added mass due to plate vibration. It is assumed that the fluid is imcompressible and inviscid. Assumed mode method is utilized to the plate model and hydrodynamic force is obtained by the proposed approach. The coupled natural frequencies are obtained from the relationship between kinetic energies of a wall including fluid and the potential energy of the wall. The theoretical result is compared with the three-dimensional finite element method. In order to verify the result, modal test was carried out for bottom/side plate of tank model by using impact hammer. It was found the fundamental natural frequency of bottom plate is lower than that of side plate of tank and theoretical result was in good agreement with that of commercial three-dimensional finite element program.

A flexible structure submerged in acoustic fluid is affected by its surrounding fluid. In transient response of a submerged structure, the coupled effect between structures and surrounding fluid emerges as damping and added mass at early and late time, respectively. Therefore, the characteristics of submerged structure such as natural frequencies and damping coefficients are changed by its surrounding fluid. In this paper, the analytic modal equation of a spherical shell surrounded by water and air is dealt with. Through the example, the damping coefficients and natural frequencies of flexible structures are studied for various external acoustic fluid and structures.

In this paper, impedance of the chiller foundation for ships is studied by using FEM and prediction is compared to measurements. Small and medium weight hammer are used to cover high and low frequency ranges in impedance measurements. Comparison shows that measurement and prediction is in good agreement in which coherence is higher than 0.98 for the frequency ranges of 40-50 Hz to 1600 -2000 Hz.

This thesis introduces a study conducted by ANSYS, Finite Element Analysis program, on dynamic behavior by thickness of a chord and a brace of a jacket typed marine structure. As load condition to work on offshore structures is getting much more various, it becomes more important to design the structures and operate them. In addition, stability is also required. As the result of this study, it was proved that wind and wave load gives more affection on frequency than on added mass in the Modal Analysis. Also, the chord and brace affect stiffness more than diagonal brace according to sensitivity analysis.

방위산업분야의 항공기용 전자장비는 신뢰성 설계를 위하여 MIL규격이나 실측된 PSD데이터를 이용하여 보수적으로 설계하는 것이 일반적이다. 하나의 프로젝트에서 개발되는 PCB는 수십 종에 이르고 그 장착위치나 설계변경이 병행되므로 PSD랜덤 진동해석의 대안으로 등가정적해석을 수행하게 된다. 등가정적해석결과의 보수성을 확인하기 위하여 PSD랜덤진동해석으로부터 추출된 정규분포를 갖는 각 방향 응력에 대해 Monte Carlo모의를 수행하여 결과를 비교분석하였다. 결론적으로 PSD랜덤진동 해석의 대안으로 등가정적해석결과의 유용성과 보수성을 통계적으로 비교하였고 실험을 통하여 결과의 타당성을 보였다.

This paper deals with the performance evaluation of piezoelectric unimorph actuator. In the unimorph design, the thickness ratio of substrate to piezoelectric material and the elastic modulus ratio of substrate to piezoelectric material are important parameters. There exists only one structural configuration that satisfies the optimal condition among them, and actuators using that configuration exhibit better actuating displacements. Another design parameter is the piezoelectric coefficient which can be improved due to the induced tensile stress and voltages. The application of the tensile stress to the piezoelectric material makes it get higher piezoelectric coefficient and the total displacement performance of the unimorph actuator is improved. Finally, the piezoelectric actuator system with spring elements is fabricated and it shows higher actuating displacement capability.

The blade vibration problem of bladed disk is the most critical subject to consider since it directly affects the stable performance of the engine as well as life of the engine. Especially, due to complicated vibration pattern of the bladed disk, more effort was required for vibration analysis and test. The research of measuring the vibration of the bladed disk, using NSMS(Non-intrusive stress measurement) instead of Aeromechanics testing method requiring slip ring or telemetry system with strain gauge, was successful. These testing can report the actual stresses seen on the blades; detect synchronous resonances that are the source of high cycle fatigue (HCF) in blades; measure individual blade mis-tuning and coupled resonances in bladed disks. In order to minimize the error being created due to heat expansion, the tip timing sensor is installed parallel to the blade trailing edge, yielding optimal result. Also, when working on finite element analysis, the whole bladed disk has gone through three-dimensional analysis, evaluating the family mode. The result of the analysis matched well with the test result.

Experiments are performed to consider the ground effects on unsteady loading and acoustic generation. Partially inclined plate is used to maximize the unsteadiness of the rotor. Indirect method to recognize the unsteady effect is used by measuring the noise in the normal direction from the rotor plane. The experiment is conducted with a square plate of about
$9m^2$ and one half of the plate is placed parallel with the rotor plane and the other half is inclined. The height of the plate and the angle of the inclined plate can be changed. Helicopter noise is also measured at the 4 different positions to study the directivity of the rotor noise. The distance between microphone and rotor hub is 1.3m. Tonal noise and broad band noise are measured and analyzed. Thickness noise, steady loading noise and unsteady loading noise are investigated from the rotor noise measurement. -
In this paper, vibration sources of a car-holder are identified and the car vibrations are reduced by structural modification. For vibration identification, vibration signals are measured by an accelerometer when the car is moving. From some experiments and finite element analyses, it is also found that resonances occur because the natural frequencies of the car exist in usual driving speed range. To shift the natural frequencies outside the driving speed range, the connection part is modified to increase stiffness. It is verified that considerable amount of vibration are reduced by the structural modification.

Dynamic characteristics of a wrist power transmission examine closely with mass property, to present a model which is able to induce the vibration is ultimately the purpose. A robot wrist power transmission for analysis model gets the mass property through the approach to be the experimental. A bearing equivalent stiffness which supports the axis and a gear contact equivalent stiffness are determined by the simplicity analysis model compared the result of the experiment. We calculate the vibration tendency of the robot wrist power transmission by an analysis tool which is called the RecurDyn. We compared it with a signal analysis experiment's which a robot operation happens which is based on the ambient noise.

Proper orthogonal decomposition is a statistical pattern analysis technique for finding the dominant components, called the proper orthogonal modes, in ensembles of spatially distributed data. We present recent ideas based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and detailed experiments that yield new perspectives into the microscale structures. The linearized modeling technique based on POD is very useful to show the principal characteristics of the complex dynamic responses.

Fluid loading of a vibrating cylindrical shell can change natural frequencies and vibration magnitudes of the shell and a vibrating cylindrical shell can also change acoustic pressure of fluid. The vibroacoustics of fluid-filled cylindrical shells need the coupled solution of Helmholtz equation and governing equation of a cylindrical shell with boundary conditions. This paper proposed the wall impedance of fluid-filled axisymmetric cylindrical shells, focusing on the inner fluid/shell interaction. To propose the impedance, shell displacements used the linear combination of in vacuo shell modes. Acoustic pressure prediction of fluid used Kirchchoff-Helmholtz Integral equation with Green function of the plane mode. For the demonstration of the proposed results, numerical applications on mufflers were conducted.

In this study, it proved that transfer path analysis is a proper technique to estimate the interior noise from comparing measured interior noise in case of 3 point supported engine mount system. And the simulation of the vibration isolation for active engine mount using FXLMS algorithm is performed. Also, it verified that reduction of estimated interior noise from transfer path analysis and simulation of the vibration isolation.

Active suspension controls stiffness and damping between unsprung mass and sprung mass in order to increase the ride quality. However, to increase the riding quality, the handling quality should be decreased and the rattle space should be increased. So, active suspension should cope with these conflict conditions. Therefore its actuating devices have to produce sufficient actuating force and have sufficiently short response time. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of 1/4 car model with an active suspension is studied according to hydraulic design variables. The active suspension consists of a hydraulic servo valve and a hydraulic cylinder. It shows better performance when it has more powerful and faster actuator.

Vehicle body frame stiffness affects the dynamic and static characteristics. Vehicle frame structure performance is greatly affected by crossmember and joint design. While the structural characteristic of these joint vary widely, there is no known tool currently in use that quickly predicts joint stiffness early in design cycle. This paper present the joint design factors affecting on low frequency vibration. The joint factors are joint panel thickness, flange width and weld point space. To study the effect on vehicle low frequency vibration, case studies for these factors are performed. The result can present design guide for high-stiffness vehicle.

This paper introduces the Bootstrap method for statistical analysis of noise and vibration spectrum in aeronautic and space fields. Generally, all components of a launch vehicle and its payloads are subjected to high intensive noise and vibration environment during the lift-off phase and the ascent phase through Mach =1 and Max Q. In order to verify their survivabilities against these severe vibroacoustic environments during qualification tests and acceptance tests, it is most important to estimate the proper upper limits of the environmental condition. Although NASA has typically utilized the Normal Tolerance Limit method in deriving these levels, the reference[1] says that the Bootstrap can be also an alternative method to estimate the maximum expected environments. In this paper, a general procedure of the Bootstrap method is summarized, and it is applied to analyze acceleration power spectral density functions, which were measured during acoustic test on the upper stage of KSLV-I.

The vibration isolator system(VIS) which has very low natural frequency could be designed by applying an axial compressive force to the beam-column flexure(BCF). In this paper a new shape of the BCF is suggested. It has stepwise axially varying properties by viscoelastic damping layer. So it has internal structural damping by damping layer during deformation. First the analytic solution is obtained for the BCF. And its critical load, buckling mode, stiffness and stress distributions are investigated. Also the dynamic properties of the VIS consist of the damping layered BCF are studied. Finally the optimal design procedure of damping layered BCF for the VIS is suggested. The improved performance of suggested VIS is verified by some experiments.

This paper is about electromagnetic vibration source in outer rotor type of BLDC motors. Experiments are carried out with three pole-slot combinations which are 6 slots, 12 slots, and 24 slots with 4 poles rotor. According to results, vibration sources separate into electromagnetic and mechanical factors. Using the finite element method (FEM), It is analyed that vibration characteristics of electromagnetic source in each type. This paper shows electromagnetic sensitivity to vibration, and introduces necessary point in lower vibration motors. Also rotor balance is important to prevent uneven distribution of magnetic flux between rotor and stator.

This paper presents an optimization of permanent magnet (PM) in a brushless dc (BLDC) motor using the response surface methodology (RSM). Size and angle of the PM are optimized to minimize the cogging torque, while reducing the magnitude of harmonic at a dominant frequency and maintaining the operating torque. A fitted RS model is constructed by verifying the high reliability of the total variation and the variation of estimated error. The optimized design is validated by carrying out the reanalysis and comparing to the initial model using the nonlinear transient finite element analysis.

Noise sources in electric machines are broadly categorized as magnetic, mechanical, electronic and aerodynamic. Especially, there are several kinds of noise sources due to the change of reluctance by rotor position in IPM motor. To separate acoustic noise by mechanical structure and electromagnetic sources, resonance frequency and the effect of vibration and acoustic noise by electromagnetic sources are analyzed. And then, the structural and electromagnetic designs to reduce acoustic noise are performed. The relevance about the study on noise reduction of IPM motor is verified by noise experiment, noise and vibration analysis.

Acoustic noises generated during motor operation in mechanical system are from electromagnetic, mechanical, aerodynamic, and electrical sources. For identification of mechanical noise origins, misalignment, unbalance, fan shape, resonance, and vibration modes have been extensively considered to describe noise behavior. An experiment-based approach as well as a mathematical approach needs to be adopted for a realistic study into noise and vibration of the motor, because motor noise characteristics differ from type to type due to various noise sources. In this paper, a brushless DC motor for air-conditioner fan is analyzed by finite element method to identify noise source, and the analysis results are verified by experiments, and sensitivity analysis is performed by design of experiments.

Cell-phone becomes a necessary communication device in modern society. However, a paging signal by a sound transducer often acts as an unpleasant noise, thus necessitating a paging signal by a vibration motor. The conventional flat type vibration motor uses three-phase windings with three phase coils. In this article, a new design of a vibration motor using a V connection with two phase coils is presented, increasing mass productivity. For electromagnetic field analysis, due to the motor symmetry, two-dimensional modeling can be implemented for fast computation, and performance is predicted by the finite element method. The winding distribution angle turns out to be the most important design parameter for the elimination of dead points, and a new coil configuration is suggested which has no adverse effect on motor size and weight. Experimental tests of vibration confirm the validity of the proposed design.

With the wide use of mobile phones, a paging signal by a sound transducer acts as an environmental noise on many occasions, thus necessitating an alternative paging signal by a vibration motor. Conventional vibration motors employ three-phase windings with mechanical brushes for commutation. In this paper, a new one-phase brushless and sensorless vibration motor is introduced utilizing digital signal processor chips in cell-phones. For electromagnetic field analysis, two-dimensional modeling can be implemented to determine the back electromotive force using axisymmetric boundary conditions. Geometric design parameters, such as coil pitch and magnet pitch. are considered for performance optimization. Through the experiments, it is shown that the proposed design has the equivalent performance with reduced number of parts, thus enhancing manufacturing productivity and reducing manufacturing cost.

With the advent of the telecommunication era, a mobile phone becomes a necessary communication device in modern society. For silent tactile signal, vibration motors have become one of the generic components in most mobile phones. Conventional vibration motors employ three-phase windings with mechanical brushes for commutation. However, mechanical commutation in these prior arts greatly deteriorates its life span, reliability, and productivity due to structural intricacy. This paper introduces a novel design of solenoid-type vibrators using electromagnetic and mechanical analysis. The proposed vibrators have a simpler structure and longer life span by eliminating wear-prone commutation parts in vibration motors.

With the advent of mobile phone, Digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) service is to be realized for multimedia data communication. For an acoustic part, a smaller and lighter microspeaker is also soon to be realized as an MP3 song player and a speakerphone. Sound quality in the microspeaker is becoming more important in mobile phones. It is evaluated by total harmonic distortion (THD). THD is the proportion of higher order frequencies output response to sinusoidal input signal. It is affected by uneven magnetic distribution and nonlinear response of diaphragm. In this paper, harmonic distortion is analyzed by considering magnetic and mechanical coupling effects. Simulated results of THD are compared with experimental data. Results show that THD in lower frequency range is higher due to high displace on voice coil and high mechanical response of high order frequency.

In this paper, flow-induced flutter instability of cantilever carbon nanotubes conveying fluid and modelled as a thin-walled beam is investigated. Non-classical effects of transverse shear and rotary inertia are incorporated in this study. The governing equations and the associated boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton's principle. Numerical analysis is performed by using extend Galerkin method which enables us to obtain more exact solutions compared with conventional Galerkin method. Cantilevered carbon nanotubes are damped with decaying amplitude for flow velocity below a certain critical value, however, beyond this critical flow velocity, flutter instability may occur. Variations of critical flow velocity with both radius ratio and length of carbon nanotubes are investigated and pertinent conclusion is outlined.

Eddy currents are induced when a nonmagnetic conductive material is moving subjected to the magnetic field due to a permanent magnet. These currents circulates in the conductive material and are dissipated, causing a repulsive force between the magnet and the conductor. Using this concept, the eddy current damping can be used as a viscous damping. The present study investigates the characteristics of a magnetic damping analytically and experimentally. The theoretical model of a eddy current damping is developed from electromagnetics and is verified from experiments. The drop test of a magnet in the cooper tube shows that the present model can accurately predict the damping force. Additionally, the dynamic test of a eddy current damping is carried to verify the present model.

A soft-recoil system, which is a new technology, can dramatically reduce a recoil force. Due to the inaccurate explosion, various fault modes may happen. These fault modes can cause the serious damage of the recoil system and must be suppressed to avoid them. In the present study, the fault mode control method of the soft-recoil system is investigated. A hydraulic damper is working under normal mode and a MR damper is additionally working when the fault modes happen. In the design of the fault mode controller, the detection method of the fault mode is important as well as its suppression. The results of the simulation show that the soft-recoil system performs when the fault modes happen.

공항에 인접한 주거지역에서 항공기 소음문제로 인하여 거주자들에게 소음피해가 발생하고 있다. 이러한 항공기소음을 저감하기 위한 방법 중 건물외피를 차음성능이 높은 구조로 변경하여 건축물의 차음량을 개선시키는 수음원 대책이 일반적으로 사용되고 있다. 특히 건축물 방음시설 설치는 건물외피 중 외부소음에 가장 취약한 창호의 차음량을 증가시키는 것이 효과적인데, 본 연구에서는 기존 창호에 비하여 차음성능이 높은 창호를 교체 설치하여 건축물의 차음량 개선치를
$L_{max}$ , SEL,$L_{eq}$ 로 각각 검토 비교함과 동시에 창호의 기밀성능을 위한 기밀재 및 추가 모헤어의 설치조건에 따른 차음성능을 검토해 보았다. 측정결과 방음시설 설치 후 항공기소음을$L_{max}$ , SEL,$L_{eq}$ 로 차음량 개선치를 각각 평가한 결과 1.8dB 이내의 편차를 갖는 것으로 나타났으며, 창의 차음성능 개선치는 기밀재 설치 후$R'45^{\circ}$ ,w가 5dB, 기밀재 및 추가 모헤어 설치 후 8dB로 나타났다. -
Relationship between exposure to combined noise sources and community annoyance have been investigated. Social surveys were conducted in urban spaces near the construction site with road traffics. The question relating to noise annoyance was answered on an 11-point numerical scale and 5-point verbal scale according to ISO 15666. The questionnaire also contained demographic factors, interference with daily activities, health-related symptoms, and noise sensitivity. Noise levels were measured in terms of A-weighted equivalent level (
$L_{Aeq}$ ), and noise mapping technique was applied to predict the noise levels of urban spaces. Synthesis curves for the relationship between noise levels and percentage highly annoyed for combined noise sources were derived, and compared to the curves from a single noise source. -
A sound-masking technique was applied to the urban public spaces with multiple noises in order to reduce the annoyance of the construction and traffic noise. In addition, the effects of masking system were investigated in order to improve the soundscape. In several urban spaces, building construction and nearby road traffic noise were recorded using a head and torso simulator and sound quality (SQ) system which specifies the spectral and temporal aspects of the noises. The sound-masking system which consists of the distributed speakers and control devices was applied to the boundaries of the construction sites. Synthesized masking sounds were produced with consideration of SQ characteristics of the multiple noise. Subjective evaluations on the soundscape were conducted to verify effectiveness of the system under the conditions with and without the masker sounds.

공연장음향성능에 영향을 미치는 중요한 부자재중의 하나인 음향반사판의 면밀도 변화에 따른 흡음특성 변화를 조사하였다. 음향반사판은 목질계반사판으로 밀도 변화는
$11\;㎏/m^2{\sim}41k\;㎏/m^2$ 으로 총 3개의 시료를 대상으로 측정하였다. 저주파 대역에서의 흡음률을 측정하기 위하여 서브우퍼와 무지향성 스피커를 사용하였으며 측정결과 중고주파수 대역의 흡음률은 면밀도 변화에 따라 큰 차이가 없었으나 저주파수 대역의 흡음률을 면밀도 변화에 따라 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 향후 음악 공연 공간내의 음향반사판의 면밀도 변화에 따른 실내 음향 특성 변화 및 설계지침에 대한 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. -
In order to measure sound transmission loss (STL) of a shipboard window of small size, a special partition is built into the test opening between two reverberation rooms and the specimen is placed in that partition. For high sound insulation, the filler wall often has multi-layered structure such as double-brick wall or buckhead structure with thick steel plate, absorptive material, and sandwich panels. This paper discusses the installation method of a multi-layered filler wall that consist of gypsum boards, lead plates, and glass wool. The experimental results of various wall structures are introduced. The comparison between the results show that the sound bridge effect plays a significant role in lowering the maximum STL of the filler wall. It is also found that the higher the sound insulation performance of the filler wall is, the more important the franking transmission through other side wall of the test facility is.

The helmholtz resonator with the perforated neck has demerits that the absorption performance is not so outstanding in an anti-resonance frequency and high frequency bandwidth. In order to overcome these problems, in the paper, a resonator combined with porous material is proposed. The absorption performances of resonators are measured by two-microphone method and estimated by transfer matrix method. The experimentally measured values of normal absorption coefficients agree well with the corresponding values from the transfer matrix method. Because of the porous material, it is shown that the absorption performance have been significantly improved in the anti-resonance frequency and high frequency bandwidth.

Damping materials are widely used to reduce vibration or noise generation of structures. To understand their damping capability and for use in numerical simulations, their viscoelastic properties should be measured in the frequency range of interest. In this study, experimental setup is proposed to measure materials properties of very compliant polymer materials. The polymer materials used in this study are difficult to form into rod shapes, and typical resonance methods are not applicable. In the proposed measurement setup, the damping materials were modeled as a simple viscoelastic support at one end of the beam. Their properties were measured through analysis of their effects on the wave propagation characteristics of the beam structure.

This paper proposes a criterion to select the modes for modal truncated model of flexible rotor only supported by active magnetic bearings. The proposed approach relies on the concepts of minimum control input and output energy assuming that the system is subjected to transient disturbances. Accurate large order model for the levitated rotor is taken by finite element analysis and transformed to the modal equation. By proposed methodology, which modal states should be retained in the truncated model are investigated over the whole operational speed range by the calculation. Finally, the effectiveness is verified by checking the model error between original model and reduced model.

The ionic polymer-metal composite actuators with selectively grown multiple electrodes were developed to mimic the swimming locomotion of a fish. The developed method is based on combining electroplating with the electroless chemical reduction using the patterned mask. The advantages of this fabrication method are that the initial compositing between the polymer and platinum particles can be assured by the chemical reduction method, and the thickness of each electrode can be controlled easily and rapidly by electroplating. By using the fabricated actuator with a multiple degree of freedom, the oscillatory wave of the flexible membrane actuator was generated and a twisting motion was also realized to verify the possibility of mimicking the fish-like locomotion. The frequency response function was analyzed to investigate the natural frequency and the damping factor by a mechanical shaker and direct electrical excitation through the swept-sine method. Present results show that this novel method can be a promising technique to easily pattern each of multiple electrodes and to implement the biomimetic motion of the polymer actuators with good mechanical bending performance.

Dynamic characteristics of smart hull structure are investigated and active vibration control performance is evaluated. Dynamic model of smart hull structure with surface bonded Macro-fiber Composite (MFC) actuators is established by analytical method. Equations of motion of the host hull structure are derived based on Donnell-Mushtari equilibrium equations for a thin cylindrical shell. A general model for the interaction between hull structure and MFC actuator is included in the dynamic model. Modal analysis is then conducted and mode shapes and corresponding natural frequencies are investigated. After constructing of the optimal control algorithm, active vibration control performance of the proposed system is evaluated. It has been shown that structural vibration can be reduced effectively with proper control input.

This paper presents the active control of flexible beam vibration. The beam was excited by a steady-state point force by mini shaker and the control was performed by mini shaker. To perform active control, least-mean-square (LMS) algorithm was used because it can easily obtain the complex transfer function in real-time. So an adaptive controller based on Filtered-X LMS algorithm was used and the controller was defined by minimizing the square of the response at a location of error sensor. In order to fine out performance tendency, input amplitude was changed in several cases and active vibration control was performed.

In this paper, environmental noise analysis was performed for large power plant and desalination plant. Ray tracing method was used to predict inside noise of turbine building. It is important to design the plant with the allowable noise level. To improve the accuracy, main noise sources were estimated based on the field data. As the results of analysis, it was concluded that noise levels slightly exceed the specified noise limit in turbine building inside. In order to reduce the noise level, adding sound-absorbing materials to inside wall of turbine building was suggested and verified with the confirmed analysis model.

Low frequency exhaust noise of marine diesel engine is one of the most important noise sources in vessels. However, conventional absorptive silencers are limited because the absorptive material is not effective in low frequency range. In the paper, exhaust noise control of marine diesel engine has been studied by using the resonator type silencer, which was composed of concentric hole-cavity resonators. The acoustic performance of the resonator type silencer was verified by the insertion loss measurement considering flow effect. Consequently, its high performance, about
$5{\sim}8dB$ noise reduction, in the low frequency range was confirmed by insertion loss measurements conducted in the ship. -
This study deals with a substantial problems with SEA modeling methods in shipboard noise predictions. As a first problems with respect to modeling, fineness of model that represents a real structure is numerically investigated by comparison among 3 models, Fine, Coarse and Simplified models. Comparison reveals that Fine model shows the lowest noise level among them since this model involve more energy transfer paths than the other models. Influence of in-plane wave is also examined by numerical comparison. It is clear that inclusion of in-plane wave affects the high frequency and the cabin far from a source.

The maximum sound pressure level in a ship is restricted by the international standard such as MIL-Std. 740-1 in order to protect hearing ability for the crew on a ship. Especially, the noise of a fan system is restricted by the maximum level of the sound power according to the military specification such as MIL-F-1900A. In this paper, the reduction of tonal noise for the fan-motor system on a ship is described related to the electrical as well as structural problems. For the electrical problems, the difference of the magnetic flux caused by the variation of the air-gap is described related to the bad concentricity of the motor housing and the shaft-bearing. And for the structural problem, the resonance of the fan motor system is described.

Habitability is one of the most important points when a passenger ship is cruising. In particular, anti-vibration design should be considered preferentially to offer passenger a comfort cabin and leisure space. But, a passenger ship is different from a general commercial ship in the view point of the structural arrangement. It is restricted within narrow limits to reinforce wide panels and local structures of a passenger ship because of its interior design. Moreover, the allowable vibratory limits for a passenger ship are much lower than those of a commercial ship. In this study are introduced the procedure of the vibration analysis, the structural improvement method for prevention of vibration and the results of vibration measurement during exciter test and sea trials.

A method to investigate the design variable tolerance effects on the variances of the response, the characteristics, and the performance of a mechanical system is presented in this paper. The Monte-Carlo method has been conventionally employed to achieve such goals. However, the Monte-Carlo method has some serious drawbacks related to the computation time and the consistent solution convergence. To resolve the drawbacks of the method, a method employing sensitivity information is proposed. Sensitivity equations for a mechanical system are obtained analytically by differentiating the multi-body formulation with respect to a design variable. By using the chain rule along with the sensitivity information, the variances of the response, the characteristics, and the performance of a dynamic system can be calculated.

A modeling method for the impact analysis of plate structures employing Hertzian contact theory is presented in this paper. Since local deformation as well as bending deflection of the plate occurs due to the collision, it has to be considered for the impact analysis. When the coefficient of restitution is employed for the impact analysis, the local deformation is not considered. For more accurate and reliable impact analysis, however, the local deformation should be considered. The effects of the location of collision and the collision mass on the impact duration time and the contact force magnitude are investigated through numerical studies employing Hertzian contact theory.

This paper predicts the changes of natural frequencies due to the changes of mass at different point mass stations by using iterative calculation Transfer Matrices Method for different boundary conditions of a single beam structure (fixed-free and fixed-fixed beam). Firstly, the first three natural frequencies of an original beam are obtained using Transfer Matrices Method to verify the accuracy of the obtained results. The results are then compared with the exact solutions before purposely changing the parameter of mass. Both beams are modeled as discrete continuous systems with six-lumped-mass system. A single beam is broken down into a point mass and a massless beam which represent a single station and expressed in matrix form. The assembled matrices are used to determine the value of natural frequencies using numerical interpolation method corresponding to their mode number by manipulating some elements in the assembled matrix.

A modeling method for the modal analysis of a pre-twisted multi-packet blade system undergoing rotational motion is presented in this paper. Blades are idealized as pre-twisted cantilever beams that are fixed to a rotating disc. The stiffness coupling effects between blades due to the flexibilities of the disc and the shroud are modeled with discrete springs. The coupling effect between chordwise and flapwise bending deflection is also considered. Hybrid deformation variables are employed to derive the equations of motion. To obtain more general information, the equations of motion are transformed into dimensionless forms in which dimensionless parameters are identified. The effects of the dimensionless parameters and the number of packets as well as blades on the modal characteristics of the rotating multi-packet pre-twisted blade system are investigated with some numerical examples.

The vibration characteristics of a rotating cantilever beam undergoing impulsive force are investigated using wavelet transformation. The transient response induced by the impulsive force and the rigid body motion of the beam are calculated using hybrid deformation variable modeling along with the Rayleigh-Ritz assumed mode methods. The vibration characteristics of the beam can be analyzed in time-frequency domain with the wavelet transform method. Therefore, the effects of the impulsive force on the transient vibration characteristics of the beam can be investigated more effectively.

원자력발전소의 안전성 확보를 위해서, 설비의 유지 관리 기법은 고장이 발생했을 때 조치하는 고장정비에서부터 고장을 미연에 방지하기 위한 예방정비, 예측정비 그리고 상태기반정비로 진행되어 가고 있다. 국내 원자력발전소에서는 고장정비와 예방 정비가 적용되고 있으며, 예측정비와 상태기반정비에 대한 연구가 수행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 모터구동밸브, 공기구동밸브, 역지밸브 그리고 펌프에 대한 예방정비 현황과 기술 개발 동향에 대해 살펴보았다.

In this paper, the new algorithm which eliminates structural noise and extracts the impact signature from the measured vibration signal is developed. We studied how the transient vibration signal due to the impact is distorted while propagating through the structure. Also the characteristics of noise generated by flow and the mechanical components are analyzed. The developed method is verified in the model plenum and the flow system in the laboratory. Results show the significant improvement in the sensitivity and accuracy.

In order to ensure the safety, the performance evaluation of the safety-related components in a nuclear power plant such as air-operated valves. In this paper, the diagnostic system(MOVIDS
$A^+$ ) for the performance of air-operated valves was developed. For this purpose, the characteristics of their operation and the methods of the diagnostic tests were reviewed. The setup and diagnostic functions of the system were mentioned. Its applicability was validated through the diagnostic tests of air-operated valves in nuclear power plants. This diagnostic system is now applied in nuclear power plants for performance tests. -
The new MOV(motor-operated valve) diagnostic system MOVIDS(MOV intelligent diagnostic system) was developed. Its remote diagnostic methods with high accuracy have improved the applicability. This enables the diagnostic tests and the evaluations of many MOVs not only at the valves but also in remote places like MCCs(motor control centers). The remote diagnostic ability of the new system reduces the cost and the man power for diagnosing MOVs and eliminates the danger of the toxic or radioactive environments to which workers might be exposed.

To verify the system performance of portable AE leak diagnosis system which can measure with moving conditions, AE activities such as RMS voltage level, AE signal trend, leak rate degree according to AE database, FFT spectrum were measured during operation on total 11 valves of the secondary system in nuclear power plant. AE activities were recorded and analyzed from various operating conditions including different temperature, type of valve, pressure difference, valve size and fluid. The results of this field study are utilized to select the type of sensors, the frequency band for filtering and thereby to improve the signal-to-noise ratio for diagnosis for diagnosis or monitoring of valves in operation. As the final result of application study above, portable type leak diagnosis system by AE was developed. The outcome of the study can be definitely applied as a means of the diagnosis or monitoring system for energy saving and prevention of accident for power plant valve. The purpose of this study is to verify availability of the acoustic emission in-situ monitoring method to the internal leak and operating conditions of the major valves at nuclear power plants. In this study, acoustic emission tests are performed when the pressurized temperature water and steam flowed through glove valve(main steam dump valve) and check valve(main steam outlet pump check valve) on the normal size of 12 and 18 ". The valve internal leak monitoring system for practical field was designed. The acoustic emission method was applied to the valves at the site, and the background noise was measured for the abnormal plant condition. To improve the reliability, a judgment of leak on the system was used various factors which are AE parameters, trend analysis, frequency analysis, voltage analysis and amplitude analysis of acoustic signal emitted from the valve operating condition internal leak.

In this study, the control performance of a Tuned Liquid Mass Damper(TLMD) manufactured to reduce the orthogonal bi-directional responses of building structures was experimentally evaluated. the TLMD using only one control device reduce bi-directional responses of building structures by making the TLMD behave as TMD and TLCD to the strong and weak axial direction of building structures. first, the control performance was evaluated by forcing sinusoidal waves to a test model that the TLMD is installed on the scale-downed building structure. Second, the real-time hybrid shaking table test was performed to evaluate the performance of the vibration control system made up of numerical part as a scale-downed building structural model and a physical experimental part as a TLMD. the superiority of bi-directional vibration control performance of the manufactured TLMD was verified by comparing the uncontrolled and controlled results of these tests. -
This paper presents an approach to define an optimal piezoactuator length to actively control structural vibration. The optimal ratio of the piezoactuator length against beam length when a pair of piezoceramic actuator and accelerometer is used to suppress unwanted vibration with direct velocity feedback (DVFB) control strategy is not clearly defined so far. It is well known that direct velocity feedback (DVFB) control can be very useful when a pair of sensor and actuator is collocated on structures with a high gain and excellent stability. It is considered that three different collocated pairs of piezoelectric actuators (20, 50 and 100 mm) and accelerometers installed on three identical clamped-clamped beams (300 * 20 * 1 mm). The response of each sensor-actuator pair requires strictly positive real (SPR) property to apply a high feedback gain. However the length of the piezoactuator affects SPR property of the sensor-actuator response. Intensive simulation and experiment shows the effect of the actuator length variation is strongly related with the frequency range of SPR property. A shorter actuator gave a wider SPR frequency range as a longer one had a narrower range. The shorter actuator showed limited control performance in spite of a higher gain was applied because the actuation force was relatively small. Thus an optimal length ratio (actuator length/beam length) was suggested to obtain relevant performance with good stability with DVFB strategy. The result of this investigation could give important information in the design of active control system to suppress unwanted vibration of smart structures with piezoelectric actuators and accelerometers.

In this paper, a tuned liquid1) mass damper(TLMD) was proposed and experimentally investigated on its control performance, which can control bi-axial responses of building structures by using only one device. The proposed TLMD controls the structural response in a specific one direction by using a liquid sloshing of TLCD. Also, the TLMD reduces the response of structures in the other orthogonal direction by behaving as a TMD that uses mass of the container itself and liquid within container of TLCD installed on linear motion guides. Force-vibration tests on a real-sized structure installed with the TLMD were performed to verify its independent behavior in two orthogonal directions. Test results showed that the responses of a structure were considerably reduced by using the proposed TLMD and its usefulness for structural control in two orthogonal directions. -
The primary objective of this study is to provide simple analytical tools to estimate dynamic characteristics of steel framed floor system in hospital building for vibration serviceability due to human activities, bogie, medical equipment. and so on. In order to evaluate the dynamic characteristics and vibration levels according to steel framed floor system, we had executed impact test and measurement on steel structure floor system in various hospital buildings. But perhaps most importantly, how to make the most of deduced design factor for design of hospital building. therefore we presented the access method such as the three-dimensional F.E. numerical analysis on the basis of the design drawing, and the properties of all floors for estimation of vibration level in hospital building.

산업용 Stack은 높은 위치의 지리적 특징과 낮은 주파수의 음향특성으로 인해 발생소음도 자체를 감소시키는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다. 대표적인 방음대책은 소음기가 있으나 규모가 크고 테스트를 위한 경제적인 부담이 크므로 이론적, 해석적인 검토를 통해 Stack 소음기의 형태를 선정하고 실제 적용 현장에서의 소음기 성능을 측정하여 예측결과를 평가하였다. 산업용 Stack 소음기의 경우 소음기의 구조에 대한 문제 및 저주파 성분이 높은 Stack 소음 특성을 고려하여 조건에 적합한 +형 스프리터 소음기를 설계, 적용하였다. 현장측정결과 문제대역인 저주파 대역에서 뚜렷한 소음감소를 나타내는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Sound manipulation is to control sound field using multiple sound sources for appropriate purposes. In linear acoustics, a sound can be constructed by superimposing several fundamental sound fields such as a planewave and sphere shape sound field. That is how we manipulate sound field. In this paper, we introduce the theory of sound manipulation and its applications from the examples of the generation of fundamental sound field: a circle, a ring shape sound field and a planewave field.

Generally, a linear vibration theory regards a vibratory system as the superposition of many degrees of vibratory system. Modal analysis stems, in fact, considers the vibration system as what has input, output, and transfer function that relates the input and output. When we want to control, however, the vibratory system, we define, first, the object function that can be vibration energy of certain vibratory system. Then, we try to find the transfer function that can minimize the object function. We can readily extend this approach to control the distributed vibration system. For example, the vibrations of a vehicle, including ships and trains. In this case, we may want to minimize the vibration of the area we select. For example, minimize the vibration of the passengers' seat, but allowing the vibration of other area; for example engines and wheels. This paper introduces a general theory that can control the vibration of the selected area, which can be called as "regional control of vibration." In fact, this is the extended theory of well known sound control of "bright zone"(Choi and Kim, 2002).]. Several illustrative examples demonstrate the applicability and properties that are not available if we use modal analysis method.

Understanding the dynamics of proteins is essential to gain insight into biological functions of proteins. The protein dynamics is delineated by conformational fluctuation (i.e. thermal vibration), and thus, thermal vibration of proteins has to be understood. In this paper, a simple mechanical model was considered for understanding protein's dynamics. Specifically, a mechanical vibration model was developed for understanding the large protein dynamics related to biological functions. The mechanical model for large proteins was constructed based on simple elastic model (i.e. Tirion's elastic model) and model reduction methods (dynamic model condensation). The large protein structure was described by minimal degrees of freedom on the basis of model reduction method that allows one to transform the refined structure into the coarse-grained structure. In this model, it is shown that a simple reduced model is able to reproduce the thermal fluctuation behavior of proteins qualitatively comparable to original molecular model. Moreover, the protein's dynamic behavior such as collective dynamics is well depicted by a simple reduced mechanical model. This sheds light on that the model reduction may provide the information about large protein dynamics, and consequently, the biological functions of large proteins.

This paper reports a piezoelectric paper made with cellulose. Since cellulose has merits in terms of biodegradability, biocompatibility, abundance in nature, lightweight and cheap, piezoelectric paper can bring a broad technological impact in many areas, for example, sensors, actuators, speakers, microphones and microelectromechanical systems. Fabrication and characterization of the piezoelectric paper are illustrated and its possibility for acoustic applications is addressed with some preliminary device demonstrations.

For CSLDV, the Chebyshev demodulation (or polynomial) technique and Hilbert transform approach have been used for mode shape reconstruction with harmonic excitation. In this paper, the Hilbert-Huang transform approach was applied as an alternative to impact excitation cases in terms of a numerical approach. The vibration of the tested structure is modeled using impulse response functions. In order to verify this technique, a simply supported beam was chosen as the test rig. With additional innovative steps which are the ideal-band pass filter and the nodal point determination, Hilbert-Huang transformation can be used for a good mode shape reconstruction even in the impact excitation case.

The effects of vehicles and pavement surface types on noise have been investigated at the Korea Expressway Corporation's Test Road along the southbound side of the Jungbu Inland Expressway, South Korea. The study was conducted in 2005 and 2006 through field measurements at nine surface sections of asphalt concrete and Portland cement concrete pavements using eleven vehicles. For the road noise analysis, the sound power levels (PWLs) of combined noise (e.g., tire/pavement interaction noise and power-train noise together) and tire/pavement interaction noise using various vehicles were calculated based on the novel close proximity (NCPX) and pass-by methods. Then, the characteristics of the PWLs were evaluated according to surface type, vehicle type, and vehicle speed. The results show that the PWLs of vehicles are diversely affected by vehicle speed and the condition of the road surface.

The noise reducing devices installed on the noise barrier have been developed in many shapes and ways to reduce noise around road traffic areas. In this study, test and estimation method for the noise reducing device witch installed on the top of a noise barrier was suggested. For this, the authors have considered sound power flow around the device and sound pressure levels for the far field area. To estimate the area effect behind the barrier, area average of noise pressure level difference divided by two area, upper and bellow the sight-line. Comparing the attenuation difference of these areas, the tendency of noise reduction effect was studied according to type of noise reducing devices. Compared with noise shielding efficiency of the devices that using equivalent height of a simple barrier calculated by the SoundPlan, the commercial environment noise simulation software.

Residents in an area where both trains and cars pass through are exposed to not only road traffic noise but also railway noise. Nevertheless, the degree of annoyance the caused to the residents is being under evaluated as the noises have been evaluated separately. Therefore, this study aimed at evaluating the integrated noise of road traffic and railway, and proving the accuracy of the evaluation result.

This paper studied the efficient noise prediction method for new apartment house near the road traffic noise. Three noise prediction software were compared by each prediction noise level using the simple model which is included the road, soundproofing wall and building. Two foreign national calculation models(RLS-90 and NMPB) were verified by comparison of measured sound level. Frequency of sound level was predicted by NMPB and compared by measured data. The sphere of noise source and facade reflection were proposed to accurate predict the road traffic noise in new apartment house.

This paper presents recent development of (semi)-active steering bogies for railway vehicles and introduce the state-of-art of related technologies. Steering bogies have been studied in various researchers since they can offer high ride quality for passengers and reduce the maintenance costs of wheel and rail wear. Especially, they are considered to be a fundamental solution to dramatically reduce the squeal noise on tight curves. However, passive steering bogies such as self-steering bogies and forced steering bogies have shown their limits to cope with the various running conditions. Therefore, (Semi)-active steering bogies have been studied to overcome the drawbacks of the passive steering bogies. As a result, an active steering bogie, so called mechatronic bogie, is developed successfully in Europe and it has shown remarkable performance in test line.

The tilting trains can run curve track about 30% faster than conventional train without affecting passenger comfort. As the tilting trains offer the optimum means of providing faster and more comfortable rail service with minimum of environmental disturbance and capital investment, it is widely adopted for commercial operation all over the world. Over several years, the Korea Railroad Research Institute(KRRI) and Ministry of Construction and Transportation(MOCT) have been developing 200 km/h Korean tilting train, Hanvit200. Hanvit200 adopt the pendulum type tilting mechanism and hybrid car body structure, mainly CFRP combined with steel. In this paper the vibrational characteristics of Hanvit200 was investigated through Eigen vector analysis, Modal Test and main line running test.

The dynamic range of MR damper is the most important characteristics for the usage of semi-active control system. The damping force can be increased by simply decresing the orifice gap in the traditional oil damper, but it deteriorate the dynamic range in MR damper. In this paper, the multi-stage electro-magnetic core is suggested to maintain the performance of MR damper with a large damping force. The MR damper with 3 stage core is designed and manufactured for testing and analysis.

Recently in Korea, noise is one of the most important social issues because the living standard becomes more higher. Railway noise is also annoying one in our society, although railway has very positive role in our country. The major measures for mitigation of railway noise in Korea are rail welding and installation of noise barrier on the noisy area. But these measures have its own limit for the calm and comfortable living environment. In Europe the railway noise problem has been treated more systematically and aggressively, there has been emission noise standard for Trans-European rail network. In this paper, the trend of noise standard for railway vehicles will be reported and the check point for our country will be discussed.

The vehicle system is exposed to random source in service. Therefore, it is important to consider dynamic effect of the system. But, fatigue analysis is traditionally performed by using time signal of loading. To obtain dynamic effect of resonance, we carried out resonance durability analysis with frequency response and the dynamic load on frequency domain. The study shows that the damage considering resonant frequency of fuel tank system can be effectively estimated.

The design on balance shaft module is performed based on the target specification of engine module as well as the its own dynamic nature under a high speed rotation. However, the specific information for engine module is not always available for non-motor companies even though a reliable analytical result should be attached in the conceptual design process or more detail works. In this paper, the analysis on balance shaft module, both each parts or module itself, is suggested to estimate the performance on the target component with respect to durability and NVH without any consideration of a engine module. This methodology could modify the nominal balance shaft model before the production of prototype such that cost reduction as well as time saving can be expected during design process of balance shaft module.

Impulsive excitation on vehicles produces shock-type vibration on the seat, usually which has major frequencies and damping ratios dependent on the characteristics of the suspension, the tire, the seat cushion and so on. The response of single degree of freedom model to a half-sine force input was considered as simple shock-type vibration signal. The quasi-apparent-mass for fifteen subjects was obtained with the shock-type vibration generated on the rigid seat, so its nonlinearity was found over 6.3 Hz according to the difference of magnitude of the shocks.

Eavesdropping of the Glass Window Using a Laser Sensor and Performance Estimation of a Window ShakerPossibility of the remote eavesdropping through window glass is investigated using a laser sensor. Various thicknesses and types of glass windows are excited by maximum length sequency (MLS) signal and the vibration sound is detected by a laser doppler vibrometer. Intelligibility of the detected sound is evaluated using the speech transmission index (STI), which is based on the modulation transfer function (MTF). In order to identify the disturbing effect, different level of disturbing wave is generated by an outside speaker and a window shaker attached on the glass window. On the different thickness of glass windows, decrease effect of the speech intelligibility is analysed.

Shape memory alloys (SMA) have interesting features which are the superelastic effect (SE), shape memory effect (SME), two-way SME (TWSME), and so on. These are utilized in actuation factor. The thermo-mechanical constitutive equations of SMA proposed by Lagoudas et al. were employed in the present study for simulating SMA truss structures. The constitutive equation includes the necessary internal variables to account for the material transformations and is utilized in the non-linear finite element procedure of three dimensional truss structures that composed SMA bar (wholly or partially). In this study, we observed which element should be actuated to get a desired shape (actuation shape) from computational analysis. To reach this goal, we apply SMA constitutive equation to non-linear finite element formulation. And then, we simulate two-way shape memory effect as well as superelastic effect of various three dimensional truss using SMA.

Measuring system for piezo inkjet droplet and ink jetting status was developed. In order to measure the jetting performance, two different approaches have been used. One is to use the self-sensing capability of the piezo actuator in the printhead. The other is to use the droplet image from a CCD camera. The software as well as hardware using two approaches was developed. The self-sensing signal as well as meniscus motion was shown to be useful in monitoring jetting conditions. Furthermore, ink properties such as viscosity and speed of sound, which is related to jetting performance, can be understood.

An E-OPMT(Electronically-controllable OPMT) was developed as an alternative of OPMT which could adjust the direction of the generated guided waves in a plate manually. The key idea of controlling the wave direction electronically is based on a few sets of axisymmetric figure-of-eight coils and the magnet which is located for making static omni-directionally biasing magnetic field over the patch. However, in order to explain wave phenomenon generated by this transducer, a new approach is required because there are various combinations between static biasing magnetic field and dynamic actuating magnetic field on the patch, not similar to OPMT. In this paper, the experiments were performed to understand characteristics of E-OPMT and the new theoretical analysis was set up for explaining the result.

Nowadays, the equipment for a semiconductor process is required to raise accuracy and productivity. Therefore, the natural frequency of the equipment has been lowered because it has been precise, rapid, large, and light. In order to improve the efficiency of production, it is necessary for the equipment to increase the operation speed, which causes inevitable vibration problems. In this paper, influence analysis of ball-screw in the equipment and evaluation method for the vibration on the base are presented based on the analyses of dynamic characteristics for the mechanical structure through the modal test.

In this paper, the purpose is to investigate the stability and variation of natural frequency of a Timoshenko cantilever beam subjected to follower force and tip mass. In addition, an analysis of the flutter instability(flutter critical follower force) of a cantilever beam as slenderness ratio is investigated. The governing differential equations of a Timoshenko beam subjected to an end tangential follower force is derived via Hamilton;s principle. The two coupled governing differential equations are reduced to one fourth order ordinary differential equation in terms of the flexural displacement. Finally, the influence of the slenderness ratio and tip mass on the critical follower force and the natural frequency of a Timoshenko beam are investigated.

A nano-imprinting stage has been widely used in various fields of nanotechnology. In this study, an analysis method of a nano-imprinting stage machine using FEM and flexible multi-body vibration has been presented. The simulation using CAE for the imprinting machine is to analyze vibration characteristics of 3-axis nano-imprinting stage and 4-axis nano-imprinting stage. Structural components such as the upper plate have been modeled with finite elements to analyze flexibility effects during the precision stage motion. In this paper flexible multi-body dynamic simulation is executed to support robust design of the precision stage mechanism.

The aging society comes, the number of the old people expended. Technical aids allow elderly and handicapped people to live independently in their private homes as long as they wish. As a contribution to these required technological solutions, a demonstrator platform for a walking assistance robot. robot which has the capability to perform fetch and carry and various other supporting tasks. In this study, we addresses the development of a walking assistance robot system. We execute static analysis, vibration analysis and flexible dynamics to reserve stability at the design. Each motion of the robot uses a linear actuator and gears. Motion can be distinguished into 3 parts depending on the up & down, rotation, and cushion trans. In each motion, we compare the displacement of the case to be rigid with the case to be flexible. As a result, manufactured and feasibility of the walking assistance robot is validated through preliminary experiments.

In the present study, degradation characteristics of pumps in nuclear power plants were investigated to provide the information of degradation mechanism and stressors. The failure records of pumps for the periods 2000 to 2006 on INPO(Institute of Nuclear Power Operations) EPIX(Equipment Performance and Information Exchange System) DB were reviewed. The 1,834 failure records reveal that the critical areas of pump failures are bearing, mechanical seal, gasket/o-ring, shaft, impeller, coupling and packing. Based on the failure rate of critical areas, the important degradation mechanism and stressors were determined. Additionally, the relationship between degradation mechanism and stressors such as wear was examined. Finally, the monitoring parameters related to degradation and stressors were discussed for the future development of degradation evaluation and prognosis technology of pumps.

This paper deals with the optimization of Gas-Gas-Heater elements for desulfurization equipment through flow analysis. The flow analysis model used in the paper is
${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent flow model. Temperature and flow velocity distributions for three types of panel elements are calculated. Through the analysis the following conclusions are obtained. Firstly, pressure differences of between inlet and outlet for three types of panel elements do not exceed in the standard pressure difference. Secondly, it is expected that NU-type panel element having wide area of heat transfer will be more effective in the aspect of the heat transfer. -
This paper is to investigate the effects of support conditions on the whirling stability of a supercritical composite driveshaft. Two system parameters are rigorously considered: one is the bending stiffness of the support beam/bearings and the other is the rotating internal damping of the shaft. An analytic model is developed based on finite element methods and an eigenvalue analysis is employed to estimate the shaft stability under supercritical operating conditions. Results show that the internal damping causes the whirling instability at a supercritical speed, as demonstrated in other previous studies. However, the bending stiffness of the support beam is found to affect greatly the stability behaviors of a supercritical shaft and several combinations of the shaft/beam stiffness can be identified to guarantee the stable operation even in a supercritical region.

The solid immersion lens (SIL) based near-field recording (NFR) system is considered as one of the high density optical data storage system. For the NFR servo system, tracking servo control is a difficult technology to maintain extremely small gap between SIL and media within one twentieth. This is because the track pitch is decreased for increasing the recording density. In this paper, we propose disturbance observer (DOB) and internal model principle (IMP) for disturbance rejection due to eccentricity of disk. The performance of tracking controller using DOB is increased by about 85%, 94%, 97% using Q filters that have bandwidths of 50Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz, respectively. Moreover, IMP based controller is effectively reduced the residual error. -
One of the important parts on multimedia era is acoustic ones. With increased demand of smallest multimedia products such as personal digital assistant (PDA) and mobile phones, it is necessary to develop acoustic devices which have higher performance and smaller size. Acoustic parts with various function for hearing impaired persons. This paper introduces a bone conduction vibrator (BCV) for hearing impaired persons to use portable acoustic device without additional devices. For vibration analysis of the BCV, electromagnetic, mechanical and their coupling effects are considered for the analysis. This paper shows that the development of design and analysis technique by finite element method (FEM) of BCV.

Most hard disk drives that apply the ramp load/unload technology unload the heads at the outer edge of the disk while the disk is rotating. During the unloading process, slider-disk contacts may occur by lift-off force and rebound of the slider. The main issue of this paper is to prevent the slider-disk contact by changing the state matrix. Because the state matrix is related to the suspension and slider, to change the state matrix means the structural change of the suspension and slider. We investigate influence for variation of the state matrix components and analyze the relation between the state matrix and the suspension/slider. -

SIL-based optical disk drive will be promising candidate of next-generation storage devices. However, a near-field optical disk drive requires the robustness to external shock because of extremely small gap between SIL and media. Especially, high-level shock damages permanently to SIL and it makes difficulties in general application. To study the likelihood of failure, the shock analysis must be performed over all others. This research explores the dynamic characteristics of rotating disk through FEM which is compared to analytical solution and experimental modal analysis. We also develop the finite element model of an optical disk drive, which includes rubber mounts, sled base, rotating disk and pickup assembly, and simulate the shock response. -
The present study investigates the effect of the flight patterns of military aircraft for takeoff and approach on noise map. Aircraft noise modeling and simulation have been made on a Korean military airport by INM(Integrated Noise Model). The flight path of a military aircraft is modeled with takeoff, overfly, approach and touch-and-go modes. The present INM simulations are conducted for various cases with change of different takeoff and approach modes. It show that the change of takeoff and approach modes can cause considerable noise effects on the noise influence region around the airport.

1000MW급 증설과 관련하여 발전소 주변지역으로부터 민원이 제기된 3000MW급 화력발전소는 넓은 평지에 위치하여 발전소의 영향이 그대로 주변지역에 전달되는 상태임에도 일상 소음레벨이 환경 기준치를 만족하는 상태였으나 향후 증설에 따른 소음도 증가에 대비하여 소음영향을 예측하고 저감 대책을 검토하였다. 대형 화력발전소의 옥외소음원은 Booster fan, I.D.fan, 주변압기, 대형 철탑, 해수순환수 펌프 전동기, 증기방출관 등이 있다. 대상 주거지역의 경우는 대형팬에 의한 지향성이 크게 나타났다. 따라서, 발전소가 주변지역에 주는 소음별 기여도를 평가하고 영향이 큰 대형팬에 대한 대책으로써 기기주변에 방음벽을 설치하는 방안과 함께 소음원의 크기를 저감시킬 수 있는 소음기 대책을 추천하여 증설 예정호기를 비롯한 기존 호기중 주거지역에 영향이 큰 3000MW에 대하여 수립함으로써 소음저감 목표치를 달성하는 결과를 도출하였다.

Noise generated from maglev vehicles mainly consists of two components, one is due to mechanical noise and the other due to aerodynamic noise. The former is due to the vehicle-guideway interactions and the latter results from the unsteady air flow around the vehicle. Aerodynamic noise could become more predominant around 225 km/h for maglev vehicles. In this paper, the aerodynamic noise of maglev vehicles is investigated experimentally. The results of the wind tunnel experiments of maglev vehicle models are introduced and compared. The comparison shows that the position of the main noise is between the bottom of the vehicle model and the rail. It is also found that the emitted sound pressure level is related to the gap size between the vehicle bottom and the rail.

Long and slender body with or without flexible supports under severe operating condition can be unstabilized even by the small cross flow. Turbulent flow mixer, which actually increases thermal-hydraulic performance of the nuclear fuel by boosting turbulence, disturbs the flow field around the fuel rod and affects dynamic behavior of the nuclear fuel rods. Few studies on this problem can be found in the literature because these effects depend on the specific natures of the support and the design of the system. This work shows how the dynamics of a multi-span fuel rod can be affected by the turbulent flow, which is discretely activated by a flow mixer. By solving a state-space form of the eigenvalue equation for a multi-span fuel rod system, the critical velocity at which a fuel rod becomes unstable was established. Based on the simulation results, we evaluated how stability of a multi-spanned nuclear fuel rod with mixing vanes can be affected by the coolant flow in an operating reactor core.

This paper focused on the application of finite element model updating technique to evaluate the structural properties of the reinforced concrete specimen using the data collected from shaking table tests. The specimen was subjected to six El Centro(NS, 1942) ground motion histories with different Peak Ground Acceleration(PGA) ranging from 0.06g to 0.50g. For model updating, flexural stiffness values of structural members(walls and slabs) were chosen as the updating parameters so that the converged results have direct physical interpretations. Initial values for finite element model were determined from the member dimensions and material properties. Frequency response functions(i.e. transfer functions), natural frequencies and mode shapes were obtained using the acceleration measurement at each floor and given ground acceleration history. The weighting factors were used to account for the relative confidence in different types of inputs for updating(i.e. transfer function and natural frequencies). The constraints based on upper/lower bound of parameters and sensitivity-based constraints were implemented to the updating procedure in this study using standard bounded variable least-squares(BVLS) method. The veracity of the updated finite element model was investigated by comparing the predicted and measured responses. The results indicated that the updated model replicates the dynamic behavior of the specimens reasonably well. At each stage of shaking, severity of damage that results from cracking of the reinforced concrete member was quantified from the updated parameters(i.e. flexural stiffness values).

LCVA has an advantage that its natural frequency can be easily controlled by changing the area ratio of the vertical column and horizontal part. The previous studies investigated the dynamic characteristics of the LCVA under harmonic load. This study experimentally obtained the first and second mode natural frequencies of the LCVA from shaking table tests using white noise and compared the values with the ones by previous study. Test results show that the measured first mode natural frequency of the LCVA has a different value compared with calculated one. The effective length(
$L_e$ ) was revised using by power equation. In the Case01 to 19, the standard deviation($s_r$ ) is 4.7292 and the coefficient of correlation(r) is 0.9856. In the Case21 to 61, the standard deviation ($s_r$ ) is 14.2143 and the coefficient of correlation(r) is 0.9935. The second mode frequency increases with the increasing area ratio, which is due to the sloshing motion effect resulting from the large area of the vertical column. -
In this study, it is outlined that heavy weight floor impact noise induced by the vibration of slab can be reduced by multi tuned mass damper(MTMD) effectively. Substructure synthesis is utilized to develope analytical model of slab coupled with MTMD and acoustic power is introduced to evaluate the performance of noise control for simplicity. Numerical analysis is carried out to investigate the effect of the properties of MTMD on the vibration and noise control. Numerical analysis shows that mass ratio of MTMD is critical on the vibration and noise control of the slab and it is essential to reduce the vibration in higher modes of slab because it has a great effect on the radiation of sound.

The load distribution to each mode of a structure under seismic loading depends on the modal participation factor. The factor of an idealized analytical model, however, is different to the actual one due to modeling and construction error. Therefore, there exist limits on the estimation of actual behavior. In this study, an identification procedure for participation factor based on vibration test is proposed. The procedure has an advantage that the mode shape vector can also be estimated directly from the participation factor. The numerical simulation using a three story building is performed to evaluate the proposed procedure.

Based on the averaged Korean head shapes that are the results of digital Korean project by KISTI and Catholic university, experimental apparatus of head dummies of Korean male and female are developed in order to measure head-related transfer functions (HRTF) by using a reverse engineering and rapid prototyping techniques. For the Korean dummies, HRTFs are measured using the substitution method over 12 kHz frequency bands. At every azimuth angle
$15^{\circ}$ HRTFs are measured for elevation angles$-30^{\circ}$ ,$0^{\circ}$ , and$30^{\circ}$ . The measured HRTFs are compared with those of KEMAR (Knowles Electronic Manikin for Acoustic Research) dummy head, which shows a little different frequency characteristic beyond 2 kHz frequency band. -
The main noise source of the BLDC rotary compressor for air conditioner was analyzed by using the measurement of noise and vibration, noise contour, and experimental modal analysis. The source is presumed to the mechanical resonance excited by the electromagnetic attractive force of the BLDC motor. To reduce the excessive noise of the BLDC rotary compressor due to the mechanical resonance, air-gap was enlarged. Its validation was conducted by the analysis of the electromagnetic attractive force which is generated by the BLDC motor. By enlarging the length of air-gap, the noise in the compressor and air conditioner was significantly improved by 2.5dB(A) and 4.5dB(A), respectively.

Transverse flux machine (TFM) has been considered as a promising driving machine especially at the low-speed applications because it has higher power density, torque and efficiency than the conventional electrical motors. However, it has complicated structure, large torque ripple and sometimes unbalanced magnetic force due to its inherent structure. This paper investigates the characteristics of torque ripple and unbalanced magnetic force of a rotatory two-phase TFM due to the teeth geometry by using the 3-dimensional finite element method, and it develops a rotatory two-phase TFM with herringbone teeth to reduce the torque ripple as well as to eliminate the unbalanced magnetic force.

Noises from ceiling mounted air-conditioning units were recorded in various actual situations such as offices, classrooms and libraries. Eight specimens of air-conditioners from major domestic and foreign manufacturers' were investigated in this study. A head and torso simulator was located 1.5 m beneath the air-conditioner panel for the measurements and sound pressure levels of the recording sounds were varied from 28 to 55 dBA with 3 dB steps for subjective evaluations. A total of 88 stimuli was randomly presented to subjects using a headphone system in semi-anechoic chamber. Two-categorized (noisiness and amenity) nine-point scale was used as evaluation method. The third scale ('point 3') among the nine-point scale was set as the threshold of allowable level of the air-conditioning sounds in consideration of the real situations. The results indicate that the allowable sound pressure level is around 34 dBA for both noisiness and amenity categories.

This research presents a laboratory study about difference of subjective response between with and without pictures. A main source is impulsive sound caused by leisure shooting. The sources are sampled from outdoor noise and their levels range from 40 to 75 dB at the interval of 5dB. The noise unit is based on A-weighted sound exposure level (ASEL;
$L_{AE}$ ). To make equal ASEL of outdoor noise, finite impulse response (FIR) filter is applied to the originally sampled source to include the effect of distance attenuation. The evaluation method of the jury test adopted a Semantic Difference(SD) Method. The intersection point which two lines crossed was used as reference point. The intersecting point of mean response rating between with and without pictures was approximately 44ASEL and that of %HA was about 60ASEL. In the result of the test, the negative effect of pictures was given at a lower levels than intersection point while the positive effect was given at a higher levels than that. -
Identification of asymmetry and anisotropy of rotor system is important for diagnosis of rotating machinery. Directional frequency response functions (dFRFs) are known to be a powerful tool in effectively detecting the presence of asymmetry or anisotropy. In this paper, an input noise effect of dFRFs for rotors is estimated, when both asymmetry and anisotropy are present. The normalized random errors of the dFRFs are calculated to verify the validity of the method, which is demonstrated by numerical simulation with a simple rotor model.

With the trend of factory automation, nowadays, much industrial machinery tends to be put into 24-hours operation a day. However, these trends in industrial equipments also increase the possibility of various mechanical problems and bring about innumerable maintenance cost. There is a strong need of the condition monitoring and diagnosis for industrial equipment, especially rotating machinery, since they are connected not only to the reduction in the maintenance costs but also connected to the enhancement of production efficiency. Generally, to evaluate the operating conditions in the machinery in the industrial field, various physical properties are monitored. Among them, vibration and Noise signals are the mist important indicator and it is effectively used in many diagnosis systems for machinery. Much previous research is based in the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) method. The spectral analysis is assumed that the signal is stationary. However, almost random signals are non-stationary. The wavelet transform has been recognized an efficient Method. Most interesting sounds have time-varying features. Signal processing techniques for the analysis of transient sound have been not clearly given yet.

Fiber-guided sensor system using a generator and a receiver can detect the amplitude of load or pressure. However, this type of sensor can show some difficulties in detecting the location of damages and pressure loadings. To overcome this weakness of this type, the ultrasonic active fiber sensor, which has an integrated ultrasonic generator and sensing part, was developed in this study. By using this sensor system, the location of mechanical loads can be exactly detected. Moreover, the ultrasonic active fiber sensor is more cost-effective than an ultrasonic fiber sensor using two piezoelectric transducers which are used as a generator and a receiver, respectively. Two applications of the ultrasonic active fiber sensor are demonstrated: cure monitoring of lead and measurement of liquid level. Present results showed that the active fiber sensor can be applied for various environmental sensing.

Magneto-rheological elastomers(MRE) are similar to magnetorheological fluids. Thus, rheological properties of MRE can be also controlled by an applied magnetic field. The MRE in this experiment is a mixture of natural rubber(NR), carbonyl iron powder(CIP), ZnO, and sulfur. Three specimens were prepared and tested by using the vibration testing instruments. The magnetic field was generated by the electromagnets. Natural frequencies of the oscillator were changed by the applied magnetic field. The properties of the MRE were increased due to magnetic field strength.

For monitoring of railway structures, optical fiber sensors are very convenient. The fiber sensors are very small and do not disturb the structural properties. They also have several merits such as electro-magnetic immunity, long signal transmission, good accuracy and multiplicity of one sensor line. Strain measurement technologies with fiber optic sensors have been investigated as a part of smart structure. In this paper, we investigated the possibilities of fiber optic sensor application to the monitoring of railway structures. We expect that the fiber optic sensors have much less noises than electrical strain gauges because of electro-magnetic immunity while railways operate electric power of 22000 volts. Fiber optic sensors showed good durability and long term stability for continuous monitoring of the railway structures as well as good response to the structural behaviors during construction.

This study presents an effective methodology on integrated monitoring system for a maglev guideway using WDM-based FBG sensors. The measuring quantities include both local and global quantities of the guideway response, such as stains, curvatures, and vertical deflections. The strains are directly measured from multiplexed FBG sensors at various locations of the test bridge followed by curvature calculations based on the plane section assumption. Vertical deflections are then estimated using the Bernoulli beam theory and regression analysis. Frequency contents obtained from the proposed method are compared with those from a conventional accelerometer. Verification tests were conducted on the newly-developed Korean Maglev test track. It has been shown that good agreement between the measured deflection and the estimated deflection is achieved. The difference between the two peak displacements was only 3.5% in maximum and the correlations between data from two sensing systems are overall very good. This confirms that the proposed technique is capable of tracing the dynamic behavior of the maglev guideway with an acceptable accuracy. Furthermore, it is expected that the proposed scheme provides an effective tool for monitoring the behavior of the maglev guideway structures without electro magnetic interference.

In this paper, the vibration of high speed trains and the irregularity of railway are examined using a wavelet-based frequency response function. To investigate their characteristics, non-stationary acceleration data are acquired and processed using the wavelet transform. Also, the railway irregularity is examined by acquiring the data from the on-board laser-based measurement system. The correlation between the train vibration and the railway irregularity has been investigated. From the analysis, the wavelet-based frequency response function is a promised method for the dynamic characteristics of high speed trains.

Recent development of fiber optic sensors and wireless sensor technology, made structural health monitoring of railway structures cost effective. In this paper, a micro bending fiber optic rail pad sensors are evaluated for train axle force measurement. In order to assess the usability of FBG fiber optic sensors for short-term bridge measurement, the FBG sensors and conventional strain gauges are installed at the same points and the strain results are compared. Also the impact factors are calculated using the FBG strain responses and the results are compared with the conventional sensor responses. A running KTX train was instrumented with wireless sensor system to measure the vibration characteristics and the results are compared with conventional wire sensor system.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the dynamic responses of pantograph-overhead contact line coupled system by using a condition monitoring system. The monitoring items are strain, vertical displacement and acceleration of a contact wire. Both strain and vertical displacement in the contact wire depends on uplift force and train velocity. Measurement of acceleration shows that the passage of the pantograph gives an impact force to a hard point on a contact wire.

In this paper, a comparison about two representative Transfer Path Analysis(TPA) methods for air-borne noise based on, matrix inversion method and pressure transmissibility, are presented on the view point of crosstalk effect between sources. In order to assess accuracy of two methods according to path models between virtual airborne noise sources, experiments are made for two cases, weak and strong crosstalk effect condition, by using acrylic vehicle model. Based on this assessment, the paper presents a reasonable application criteria for TPA method according to the circumstances of air-borne noise sources.

The damage identification in a flexible system requires modal informations which is represented by FRF(Frequency response function) or modal parameters. In this paper, energy isoclines are introduced to access the prediction of fatigue damage on a flexible component exposed mainly to the exciting source rather than external forces. After deriving the concerned function, energy isoclines, from the investigation of the relationship between energy and damage, its practical application is explained by the simple uni-axial excitation test for the notched round bar.

The sound transmission loss is a key index to evaluate the acoustic performance of a car-body structure at the high frequency range. From this paper, a new validation method for in-situ sound transmission loss is proposed. First, in-situ sound transmission loss is measured by using PU intensity probe on the condition of complete vehicle. Second, validation test, which is consisted of internal, external and total frequency response function test, is performed by using volume acceleration source and microphones. Then, these test results are compared to validate the accuracy of in-situ sound transmission loss. Finally, the test result of in-site method is compared with results of two reverberant room test method and SEA analytical method. The reliability of in-situ method is confirmed by these procedures.

Large quantity of bending deformation as well as rotating torque fluctuation at the balance shaft are main struggles during the operation in a high speed rotation and thereby, two issues should be cleared at the design process of balance shaft module. Since two issues are highly related with balance shaft itself and particularly much sensitive to the location of both supporting bearing and unbalance mass, the design strategy on balance shaft should be investigated at the aspect of controlling two critical issues at the early stage of balance shaft design. To tackle two main problems, the formulation of objective function that minimizes critical issues, both bending deformation as well as torque fluctuation, is suggested to derive the optimal information on balance shaft. Then, optimal informations are reviewed at the practical logics and the guideline at the selection of locations, both supporting bearing and unbalance mass, is addressed at the final chapter.

This is concerned with the radiation pattern of elastic waves in a plate generated by an orientation-adjustable patch-type magnetostrictive transducer. In general, not only the Lamb waves but also shear horizontal (SH) waves are produced by the deformation of the circular magnetostrictive patch bonded to a plate. Among the two types of waves, this paper investigates the radiation patterns of SH waves. A number of experimental results are presented. They are also accurately predicted by a theory developed by the present authors. Experimental findings were explained by a theoretical analysis.

With increasing demands for reducing cost of maintenance which can detect machine fault automatically; low cost and intelligent functionality sensors are required. Rapid developments, in semiconductor, computing, and communication have led to a new generation of sensor called "smart" sensors with functionality and intelligence. The purpose of this research is comparison of machine fault classification between general analyzer signals and smart sensor signals. Three types of sensors are used in induction motors faults diagnosis, which are vibration, current and flux. Classification results are satisfied.

Because to reduce injuries of pedestrians, and to satisfy the criterions of the EECV and Euro-NCAP. We analyze the frequency responses to recognize the impact objects. This study will be the basic data to development the smart bumper to protect the pedestrians.

In a field measurement, measurement errors are produced by measuring environments and systematic errors in the measurement procedure. Measurement errors can be expressed as a measurement uncertainty. In this study, the measurement uncertainty and various measuring factors are investigated in heavy-weight impact sounds. According to KS 2810-2, the model functions, which is the estimation of the maximum SPL measurement in each octave band frequency, are determined. From this estimation model, 3.53dB is shown in 63Hz. This level is caused by the sound field of the receiving room, which does not meet the diffusing field.

Resilient materials are generally used for the floating floors to reduce the floor impact sound. Dynamic stiffness of resilient material, which has the most to do with the floor impact sound reduction. The resilient materials available in Korea include EPS (Styrofoam), recycled urethane types, EVA (Ethylene Vinylacetate) foam rubber, foam PE (Polyethylene), glass fiber & rock wool, recycled tire, foam polypropylene, compressed polyester, and other synthetic materials. In this study, we tested floor impact sound reduction characteristic to a lot of kinds of resilient material. The result of test showed that the amount of the Light-weight impact sound reduction appeared by being influenced from this dynamic stiffness of resilient material. As the decreasing dynamic stiffness of resilient material, the impact sound reduction amount is increased, especially in the low frequency domain.

In this study, long-term compression displacement of damping materials used to reduce floor impact noise and compressive load that crack begins to happen in Ondol layers including the material were measured as basic research to make guide line for right choice of damping material considering structural stability of Ondol layer. From the result, it was found that compression displacement by elapsed time as well as early displacement of damping material when load is applied on Ondol layer are should be included in the guide line for the choice of damping materials. And no problem is expected to be in structural stability of Ondol layer in case choose a damping material that compression displacement at three months later from inflict load is within 10% than initial thickness.

Receiving room's floor impact sound level is been influenced to various factor of slab thickness, room size, structure etc. This study examined the noise of upper part slab and room mode in receiving room to be importance factor that influence in receiving room level among this factors. According to this study, vibration mode in slab and room mode are concentrated on frequency that is high level relatively. This causes bad effect in floor impact sound level. Therefore, method to reduce floor impact sound level is to change vibration mode using slab upper part's resilient material or reduce room mode in receiving room.

As customer's demands are varying, the type of floor plan of apartment is changed into expanded type with balcony unified to living room from general type with balcony separated from living room and so is changing the layout of L(living room), D(dining room) and K(kitchen). This study aims to examine how the type of floor plan of living room affects the floor impact sound insulation performance and to propose fundamental idea to floor plan layout of apartment in terms of floor impact sound reduction.

유리섬유 및 폴리에스테르와 같은 섬유질 흡음재의 단점을 보완하기 위하여 다공성 알루미늄과 같은 강체 흡음재가 개발되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 스테인리스 스틸을 이용한 다공성 강체에 대하여 수직입사 흡음성능을 조사하였다. 밀도, 두께, 세부 프로파일 등에 따른 성능비교를 위하여 서로 다른 9개의 시험편의 성능을 측정하였다. 측정결과 밀도가 낮고 두께가 두꺼운 다공성 강체의 흡음성능이 다소 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 두께의 증가에 따라 중저주파수 대역의 흡음특성이 증가되었다. 배후 공기층이 형성되는 경우 중 저주파수 대역의 흡음성능이 매우 향상되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 접착제가 사용된 실험편에 배후공기층이 형성되는 경우 전주파수 대역에서 매우 평탄한 수직입사 흡음특성을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 향후 스테인리스 스틸 다공성 강체가 방음시설물, 흡음.확산용 내장재 등으로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

In this paper, we proposed a new type's PZT actuator using surface acoustic wave. This actuator uses Rayleigh wave as an operational traveling wave. For the development of the actuator, each components of surface acoustic wave motor like PZT substrate, slider and IDT was studied theoretically and fabricated. For the measurement of transfer function of PZT substrate and operation of surface acoustic wave motor, network analyzer and 13.56MHz RF generator were used. Also the model which expresses the driving characteristic best was suggested and simulation was executed for the suggested model. And the future research works for improvement of SAW actuator was suggested.

Wire-suspensions in the conventional actuators mechanically support the moving part and guarantee the accuracy of the actuator without tangential tilt actuation. However, such a suspension configuration has considerable stiffness in the tangential tilt direction with two additional wire beams for the tangential tilt. Thus, we performed a design sensitivity analysis for the wire-suspension stiffness of 4-axis actuator and controlled the main parameters such as distance among wire-suspensions and wire-suspension length to allow tangential tilt flexibility. The elasticity of frame PCB that supports the moving part by wire-suspensions was also exploited to improve the flexibility of wire-suspension in the tangential tilt direction. A novel suspension structure was devised by establishing eight wire-suspensions at both sides of the moving part for electrical connection to coils. The magnetic circuit according to the proposed 4-axis actuator using multi-polar magnet and coils was also suggested for the generation of electromagnetic forces in the focusing, tracking, radial and tangential tilt directions. -
One of trend of portable devices is convergence with other devices, especially with navigation system. This converged system is generally called PND (Personal Navigation Device). This detachable device is developed for personal entertainment in everyday life and navigation system when deriving, so it should meet the specification of vehicle thermal environment, anti-vibration as well as the anti-shock by sudden drop. In this paper, the way to design the hard disk drive damper with CAE, is introduced to get a reliable system from the beginning of the design step.

This paper investigates the abnormal noise of polygon mirror scanner motor due to the mechanical contact. In the high speed polygon mirror scanner motor the vibration of polygon mirror scanner motor is one of the main sources of abnormal noise, because structure-borne noise due to the vibration is bigger than aerodynamic noise, especially when the rotating part contacts the stationary parts. This research determines the main harmonics of structure-borne noise by using sound quality evaluation. It also develops an experimental set-up to measure the mechanical contact and vibration of polygon mirror scanner motor simultaneously. This paper also show that mechanical contact between rotating shaft and stationary sleeve is one of the dominant vibration sources of structure-borne noise which cause the abnormal noise of the high speed polygon mirror scanner motor by using the developed experimental set-up.

Optimization method for the open loop commutation time intervals in HDD spindle start-up control is presented in this paper. A hard disk drive(HDD) uses a sensorless brushless DC motor(BLDC) for the platter rotation. Because there is no direct sensor for the rotor position, open loop commutations after sensing the rotor position at a standstill using inductive sensing method are performed to speed up the rotor up to a certain speed where the zero crossings of the back electromotive force(EMF) are measurable. Therefore successful open loop commutations are necessary for the stable start-up control of the spindle motors. Random neighborhood search(RNS) algorithm is introduced as a optimization technic in this paper. Rotor speed and its standard deviation are used as a cost function and commutation intervals obtained from the spindle motion equation are used as initial parameter values for the RNS. With the help of the proposed method optimized open loop commutation time intervals for the very low start-up current are acquired and tested. The experimental results shows that the proposed method can decrease the start-up failure rate of a HDD spindle motor.

Gap servo NFR (Near Field Recording) system is one of technologies to reduce beam spot size by increasing NA (Numerical Aperture) of lens. To achieve high NA, SIL (Solid Immersion Lens) is used. In case of using a blue LD (405 nm) as the light source the gap distance should be controlled under 100 nm with much tighter margin. To develop NFR disc drive with very small gap distance between SIL bottom and the surface of media, we need to research for the vibration characteristics and design considerations. This paper deals with a study on vibration characteristic of NFR disc drive.

In this paper, review on the present acceptable limit level and compensation standard in National Environmental Dispute Resolution Commission is introduced. Discordance of standards between in the regulation law and in the dispute resolution commission and it's improvement are discussed. Abnormal reasoning for compensation standards is pointed out from a author's private view.

The increase in logistics and the emergence of high speed vehicles are aggravating the noise problem, and disturbing large numbers of people. Therefore, growing attention is being paid to the creation and utilization of a noise map in order to grasp and predict the influence of noise, and to establish a policy that effectively reduces noise. However, so far there has been little progress in developing a predictive formula for railway noise, and a noise prediction program suitable for the domestic environment. Therefore, there is a need for a method to apply the overseas prediction formula to domestic railway vehicles. This study evaluated the prediction method, the result of which is similar to that of a real measurement, using a noise map. It also employed a commercial software program, SoundPlan, to predict noise.

The purpose of this study is to establish the noise abatement procedures in Kimhae International Airport and also make noise limit and methods to monitor and detect an aircraft flying over Kimhae airport. First of all, noise monitoring system(NMS) should be set up, have a test and noise limit will be adjusted afterwards. Before applying Noise Abatement Procederes and noise limit, the amendment of Aviation Law 'article 108' required to proceed. The accumulative data and long term process of NMS will proceed and it is necessary to issue a notification of noise limit in phases.

As the various industrial production machinery has come into being by development of industrial technology, the productivity of the basic industrial production machinery has improved and the international competitiveness of the one of Korea has strengthened. However, at the same time, noise from various industrial production machinery disturbs the quiet environment. There are 35 kinds of the noise emission machinery defined in the noise and vibration control act according to the horse power and the number of machinery. These were classified in 1992 through investigation from 1990 to 1991, and the characteristic of the noise emission machinery may be different from the past one. So we need to investigate the characteristics of the noise emitted by machinery to control it rightly. Also we need to investigate the new noise emission machinery which has come into being recently. In this survey, we measured sound intensity of 32 noise emission machinery to calculate the sound power levels of those and investigated the characteristic of the sound power level of those according to the frequency. From the survey, we found that the forging machine, concrete pipe and pile making machine, sawing machine, etc. are the noisy machinery. And the automatic packing machine, sewing machine, centrifuge, etc. are the silent machinery. Also the generator, the concrete pipe and pile making machine, the printing machine, etc. emit the low frequency noise, and the molding machine, the stone cutter, the metal cutter, etc. emit the high frequency noise. Lastly, we intented to propose the proper guide line of classifying noise emission machinery.

시간지연 추정 방법들에 대한 연구는 예전부터 활발히 진행되고 있다. 하지만 실제 환경에서 측정된 신호들을 이용하여 시간지연을 추정함에 있어 그 성능에 미치는 영향들에 대한 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 1997 년에 Brandstein 과 Siverman 은 공간의 잔향 시간이 길어질수록 그 공간에서의 시간지연 추정 성능이 나빠짐을 모의 실험을 통해 밝혔다. 하지만 동일한 잔향시간을 갖는 공간에서 측정된 신호의 경우에도 시간 구간에 따라 추정 성능에 차이를 보이고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 시간지연 추정 성능에 미치는 영향들에 대해서 살펴보고, 그 원인들에 대해 분석하였다. 그 결과, 동일한 잔향시간을 갖는 공간에서 측정된 신호일지라도 시간 구간에 따라 R/D 비와 신호의 특성들이 다르기 때문에 추정 성능에 차이가 나타남을 알 수 있었다.

This paper deals with a means to reproduce sound field by using Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral equation. We control boundary value or generate sound sources on the boundary in order to control the sound field as we want. The method assumes that there is a unique relation between sound field and its boundary should. Otherwise the reproduced sound field is different from what we want generate; the original sound field. Half-infinite sound field and finite sound field are considered and whether the uniqueness is hold or not and how the reproduced field is generated are discussed in each case.

This study deals with modeling of Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs) using Principal Components Analysis (PCA) in the time and frequency domains. Four PCA models based on Head-Related Impulse Responses (HRIRs), complex-valued HRTFs, augmented HRTFs, and log-magnitudes of HRTFs are investigated. The objective of this study is to compare modeling performances of the PCA models in the least-squares sense and to show the theoretical relationship between the PCA models. In terms of the number of principal components needed for modeling, the PCA model based on HRIR or augmented HRTFs showed more efficient modeling performance than the PCA model based on complex-valued HRTFs. The PCA model based on HRIRs in the time domain and that based on augmented HRTFs in the frequency domain are shown to be theoretically equivalent. Modeling performance of the PCA model based on log-magnitudes of HRTFs cannot be compared with that of other PCA models because the PCA model deals with log-scaled magnitude components only, whereas the other PCA models consider both magnitude and phase components in linear scale.

본 연구에서는 최적 빔포머 (optimal beamformer)를 이용하여, 높은 지향특성을 갖는 라우드스피커 어레이를 구성하였다. 센서 어레이 시스템에 널리 적용되는 빔포밍 방법은 상반성 (reciprocity)의 원리에 의하여 라우드스피커 시스템에도 적용이 가능하다. 음원의 개수 및 배치 간격과 같은 최적 빔포머의 설계 변수와 지향성과의 관계를 살펴보고, 잡음 증폭을 억제하기 위해 적용되는 안정화 계수 (stability factor)도 유용한 설계 변수로 활용하였다. 또한 라우드스피커 자체가 갖는 지향성과 반사와 산란 등을 고려하여 빔포머를 최적화하는 방법을 제안하였고, 이 방법을 통해 예측치와 실제 시스템과의 차이를 줄였다. 실행 예제로 실제 어레이 시스템을 구성하고, 모의 실험과 실제 측정을 수행하여 성능을 확인하였다.

To customize individual characteristics of HRTF, a spherical model has been used for structural modeling technique. A pseudo-code of prolate spheroidal HRTF caused by incident acoustic point source is already developed, and it can be used a head shadow filter for structural modeling of HRTF. In this research, to see the necessity and efficiency of spheroidal head modeling, ITD optimization is performed on CIPIC HRTF database. From given cost function, ITD-optimized spheroidal head model, whose ITD information is the most matched version of measured ITD information, is found by varying head parameters subject by subject. By comparing results of ITD-optimized spheroids and ITD-optimized spheres, we concluded that a spherical head model is more efficient way of generating head shadow effect than a spheroidal head model does.

본 논문은 시청자의 위치에 최적화된 입체음향을 제공하는 TV 개발에 관한 것으로 2 개의 TV 스피커만으로 5.1 채널 스피커가 주는 입체음향 효과를 제공해준다. 기존의 Speaker Virtualizer 기술은 시청자가 특정 위치(Sweet Spot)를 벗어나면 입체음향 성능이 현저히 저하된다. 반면, 본 논문에서 제안하는 Adaptive Virtualizer 기술은 초음파가 장착된 리모콘을 사용하여 시청자의 위치를 인식하고 인식된 시청자의 위치 정보를 활용하여 청취위치에 해당하는 HRTF로부터 설계된 Filter를 Update 하고 두 스피커의 출력레벨 및 시간지연 값을 보정함으로써 최적의 입체음향을 재현한다. 본 논문에서는 실시간 구현을 위해 Speaker Virtualizer의 계산량을 최소화하는 기술을 제안하고 다양한 청취 위치에 해당하는 Filter를 설계하고 설계된 Filter를 효율적으로 Update 하는 Adaptive Virtualizer 기술을 제안한다. 또한, 초음파를 이용한 시청자 위치 인식 기술 및 전체 시스템 통합 기술을 제시한다.

PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) systems requires very short headways to increase the line capacity and a very reliable vehicle control algorithm for avoidance of the impact between vehicles. In this paper a brake curves (or speed patterns) for PRT system that make it possible the effective vehicle control and a collision avoidance algorithm are introduced. For the simulations and the evaluations of the proposed algorithm a combined simulation platform that consists of Labview Simulation Interface Toolkit and Matlab/Simulink and a specific hardware configuration are employed.

The study is to develop a foundation design for a railway vehicle simulator using a scaled model. Although a scaled simulator is limited to manipulate the dynamics of a full-size railway vehicle, it has been known to have an advantage, since a scaled model could provide the fundamental dynamic behavior within a limited space of a laboratory facility and with a low operation cost while an experiment is conducted. This study is to propose a design strategy for a simulator so that a small scaled roller rig could be fabricated in a laboratory based on the design philosophy. The data obtained from the scale model is also experimentally investigated in conjunction with appropriate non-dimensional analysis so that the output results should be interpreted to the railway vehicle.

This paper presents vibration control performances and stability evaluations of railway vehicle featuring controllable magnetorheological (MR) damper. The MR damper model is developed and then incorporated with the governing equations of motion of the railway vehicle which includes vehicle body, bogie and wheel-set. A cylindrical type of MR damper is devised and its damping force is evaluated by considering fluid viscosity and MR effect. Design parameters are determined to achieve desired damping force level applicable to real railway vehicle. Subsequently, computer simulation of vibration control and stability analysis is performed using Matlab Simulink.

For commercial vehicles with a manual transmission, the pneumatic and fluid pressure servo-device is widely used for transmitting large torque. However, the pneumatic and fluid pressure servo-device usually results in non-linear variation of foot-efforts, also such characteristics tend to increase physical fatigue of drivers who drive commercial vehicles for a long time. Thus, vehicle manufacturers consider the hysteresis loops in the Clutch Actuation System (CAS) design when a new vehicle model is being developed. In this study, we numerically simulate the hysteresis loops for predictable CAS design, and the experimental results confirm the simulation results.

A design process for the structure-borne noise in a passenger vehicle is presented. The proposed process is improved from the previous one. The major difference between the current and last ones is that most of the countermeasures should be developed before fixing a tool for structural parts. This is requested for QCDP(Quality, Cost, Delivery and Productivity) by the design engineers. The proposed one consists of 4 steps: Problem definition, Cause analysis, Development of counter-measure and Validation. Based on the general rule: divide and conquer, the complex problem can be simplified into a few critical sub-systems through the first step: Problem definition. Secondly, the critical causes can be identified for the critical sub-systems through the second step: Cause analysis. Thirdly, effective countermeasures are investigated and produced through the third step: Countermeasure development. The proposed countermeasures are finally validated in the forth step: Validation.

This paper presents vehicle road test of a semi-active suspension system equipped with continuously controllable magnetorheological (MR) dampers. As a first step, front and rear MR dampers are designed and manufactured based on the optimized damping force levels and mechanical dimensions required for a commercial middle-sized passenger vehicle. After experimentally evaluating dynamic characteristics of the MR dampers, the test vehicle is prepared for road test by integrating current suppliers, real-time data acquisition system and numerous sensors such as accelerometer and gyroscope. Subsequently, the manufactured four MR dampers (two for front parts and two for rear parts) are incorporated with the test vehicle and a skyhook control algorithm is formulated and realized in the data acquisition system. In order to emphasize practical aspect of the proposed MR suspension system, road tests are undertaken on proving grounds: bump and paved roads. The control responses are evaluated in both time and frequency domains by activating the MR dampers.

Recently the agitator are being widely used in the machine plan in order to increase the petrochemical industry. The agitator normally consist of impeller, shaft, hub, reduction gear and the driving motor. It is one of the key design issue to confirm that the vibration caused by the rotation of the shaft should not coincide with the natural frequency of the shaft itself. And petrochemical industry as well as plants have been in operation for long period beyond their original design lives. In this paper the vibration of Ox-Reactor Agitator is measured for check machine condition. The result of diagnosis and solution is discussed in this paper.

Vibration/shock affects biggest taking a train subtraction of vehicle and durability decline. Therefore, absorber is used for vibration/shock isolation and various qualities of the material and design are applied to isolation. This paper proposes vibration/shock absorber that applies 'Disc'spring. Through comparison with 'Disc' spring that has nonlinearity and coil spring that is having linearity, see effect that nonlinearity of isolation gets in vibration/shock isolation. Coil spring and 'Disc' spring are non-linear numerical analysis and simulation through theory for this, get and investigate comparison result through an experiment finally. Expressed and formulated shock through 'Runge-Kutta' method/impact response to nonlinear-vibration-equation of 1 degree of freedom for numerical analysis. Double half sine pulse of excitation used and analyzed result through spectrum response analysis here. Response of disc spring is compared to response of coil spring by changing ho/t ratio with computer simulation and the usage of disc spring is increased through analysis of effect of design factors. The purpose of this paper is that the shock response of disc spring is calculated through numerical simulation and to design the optimal absorber under the limited condition. And then, the isolation effect was analyzed through the shock test.

The necessity of diagnosis of the rotating machinery which is widely used in the industry is increasing. Because vibration diagnosis can avoid sudden breakdown of machine and reduce the maintenance costs. In the factory, Air-Compressor which can affect the performance and capacity of output is important machine. Therefore, in this paper, The measuring and analyzing is carried out for air-compressor in order to the factor of resonance and resonance avoidance for air-compressor. The result of diagnosis and solution is discussed in this paper.

As performance of medical air compressor improve, the problem of noise increased. Noise is very important to medical air compressor because most of this installed inside of building. The main goal of this paper is show TPA (Transfer Path Analysis) result for contribution analysis using PAK system. Generally, the conventional TPA method consists of two steps. First, transfer functions between output sound and sources are measured by excitation experiment. Second, transferred sound in each transfer path is generated by multiplying the transfer function and the sound source signal. Then, if the output sound synthesized from all transferred sounds doesn't give good agreement with the measured output sound (i.e., the accuracies of the transfer functions are low), setting a suitable countermeasure guideline becomes difficult. For obtaining highly accurate transfer functions, eliminating correlations among transfer functions and noise included in the measured data are necessary. In the new method with PAK system, the vibration acceleration and sound signals around the sound sources and the output sound were measured simultaneously to obtain the transfer functions when compressor was operating. By applying PAK system, a highly accurate and efficient transfer path analysis method was developed that does not require an excitation experiment.
