The interior noise of KTX in tunnel is becoming the problem since the commercial operating in April 2004. The major sources of interior noise for High speed train ate known as the aerodynamic noise and rolling noise generally. We measure the noise and vibration inside KTX in tunnel in order to find the cause of the interior noise of KTX. The analysis results show that the interior noise of KTX in tunnel with concrete track is increased sharply by a low frequency below 80Hz that is the natural frequency of the KTX carbody. We know that the booming noise inside KTX in tunnel with concrete track is generated by aerodynamic noise outside ganqway and rolling noise at the carbody natural frequency.

This paper presents experimental analysis of a friction-driven wheel that is responsible for wheel squeal. Squeal noise generating mechanism and environment of train u heels has been tried to reproduce under laboratory condition. Scale down size rail and wheel are made and influential parameters to squeal noise are measured, e. g. frictional force, pressure between rail and wheel, creep speed of rail. Negative damping characteristic curve are calculated currently. Necessary relating computational analysis is also carried on.

It is widely recognized that train Is one of the most efficient and convenient ways for passenger and freight transportation. However, the environmental noise problem is occurred with the construction and service of train. The noise problems caused by train prevent people from living in a silent environment. Furthermore, this problem is related with the right to preserve one's environment. The objectives of this research are train noise measurement and analysis which might be a base-study for prediction of train noise. This paper mainly deals with the noise of the 'Semaul' train. The train noise shows distinct characteristics according to the variation of height and distance. Furthermore, the database and its interface program are developed for systematic analysis and future research.

This paper described improvement and operation of a 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque performance test system KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed a 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque system of a helicopter and a performance test-rig to test the performance of the Tail-Fan. The test-rig was improved for full rotating test in 4300rpm(100%). Machinery and hydraulic parts ware changed to reduce vibration and to increase safety. To find the operation rotating speed for the performance test, vibration test were carried out rising accelerometers on tail gear box. The performance test conditions of the Tail-Fan to avoid a resonance were found from vibration test results. The Tail-Fan operation tests were performed safely frier to carry out performance test.

Tile gust generator was designed for generating the gust field in the wind tunnel test of the scaled flexible wing model for validating gust response alleviation system. The ground operation test was performed for estimating the dynamic performance of tile gust generator before installing it in the wind tunnel for gust field measurement. The ground test results showed that the gust generator has sufficient dynamic capability to simulate the sinusoidal and random motion of the gust generator wing and thus can be used in the wind tunnel test related to gust.

Flutter analysis procedure can be divided into two steps such as the computation of generalized mass, stiffness, and unsteady aerodynamic matrices and the calculation of major vibration modes frequency and damping values at each flight speed by solving the complex eigenvalue problem. In aircraft flutter analyses, most of the time is spent in the process of computing the unsteady aerodynamic matrices at each Mach-reduced frequency pairs defined. In this study, the method has been presented for computation and extraction of unsteady aerodynamic matrix portions dependent only on aerodynamic model using DMAP ALTER in MSC/NASTRAN SOL 145. In addition, efficient flutter analysis method has been suggested by computing and utilizing the unsteady generalized aerodynamic matrices for each analysis condition using the unsteady aerodynamic matrix portions extracted above.

Aircraft noise is a important problem to inhabitants near airports. INM is one of programs for determining the predicted noise impact in the vicinity of airports. It has been widely using for engineers to evaluate aircraft noise. However it is difficult to predict aircraft noise in case of lack of exact INM input data. The exact informations about a fighter plane are not known well for a security problem. This study presents methods of reducing errors between measurement and simulation when the exact INM input data is not known. Especially we adjusted the thrust force of aircraft engine and reduced the error.

Modal parameters of a structure are the important factor to control the missile maneuver. In general, a dummy structure is used for the modal test of missile structure instead of the real warhead and propellant because there may be the danger of a explosion by the electric shock of test equipment, such as the exciter and the power amplifier. However, the modal testing of a real missile structure is required to acquire the modal parameters and to analyze the missile performance accurately. The new test system and technique are developed to get rid of the danger and secure the safety during the testing. This test system is made of with the computer network system and controlled remote from test site. Using His new test system, the modal test of real missile structure is performed successfully and its validity is proven.

In this paper, a theoretical study is carried out on the hydroelastic vibration of a rectangular tank wall. It is assumed that the tank wall is clamped along the plate edges. The fluid velocity potential is used for the simulation of fluid domain and to obtain the added mass due to wall vibration. In addition, the vibration characteristics of stiffened wall of the rectangular tank are investigated. Assumed mode method is utilized to the stiffened plate model and hydrodynamic force is obtained by the proposed approach. The coupled natural frequencies are obtained from the relationship between kinetic energies of a wall including fluid and the potential energy of the wall. The theoretical result is compared with the three-dimensional finite element method and then added mass effect is discussed due to tank length and potential mode.

In this paper, FSTL(field sound transmission loss) measured in the mock-up is studied and compared to the STL measured in laboratory. A mock-up is built by using 6t steel plate, and two identical cabins are made where 25t or 50t panel is used to construct wall and ceiling inside the steel structure. Various wall panels and ceilings are tested, where the effects of U/T, sealing, panel thickness, ceilings are studied. It is shown that the effect of ceiling thickness is negligible and FSTL is lower than STL by 5-7 dB due to several flanking paths.

Recently, the demand for the Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading facility (FPSO) which has some economic and technical advantages, has increased in offshore oil production areas. FPSO vessel dose not have self-propulsion system, but has additional facilities for oil production and positioning system. Main noise sources such as gas turbines, compressors, and pumps, are located on top of the hull (Topside area). In general, the noise regulation for the offshore structure is severer than that of the cargo ship and acceptable noise limit of cabin is specified as 45 dB(A). This paper describes the noise characteristics and the countermeasures for FPSO Topside area through investigation of noise analysis and site measurement results. Proper countermeasures, considering the characteristics of sources and receiver spaces, were applied from the noise prediction and various measurement results. Finally, this ship was successfully delivered with excellent noise properties.

This paper presents a theoretical and experimental study on the damage identification of structures. In civil and aerospace, significant work has been done in the area of detecting damage in structures by using changes in the dynamic response of the structure. In this paper a method based on the changes in the strain energy of the structure will be discussed. To evaluate the effectiveness of the method it will be applied to both beam and LNG(liquefied natural gas) carrier.

A passenger ship has some differences compared with a general commercial ship from the viewpoint of the structural arrangement. It is difficult to reinforce wide panels and local structures of a passenger ship because of its interior design when they have vibration problems. Moreover, the allowable vibratory limit for a passenger ship is much lower than that of a commercial ship. In this study, it is introduced that the procedure of the vibration analysis and the structural improvement for prevention of vibration with consideration of interior design for the Atrium stairway, one of the local structure installed in public space.

For the analysis of a vibrating two dimensional structure such as the simply supported rectangular plate, Spectral Finite Element Method (SFEM) has been studied. Under the condition that two parallel edges are simply supported at least and the other two edges can be arbitrary, Spectral Finite Element has been developed. Using this element SFEM is applied to the vibrating rectangular plate which all edges are simply supported, and obtain the frequency response function in frequency domain and the dynamic response in time domain. To evaluate these results normal mode method and finite element method (FEM) are also accomplished and compared. It is seen that SFEM is more powerful analysis tool than FEM in high frequency range.

Power Flow Boundary Element Method(PFBEM) has been used as a promising tool for radiation problems in the midium-to-high frequency. PFBEM is the numerical method that applies boundary element technique to Power Flow Analysis (PFA). Indirect PFBEM is developed for acoustic scattering problems in the open field and in various frequency. To verify the analytic results of indirect PFBEM for acoustic scattering problems are compared with those of SYSNOISE, and the results using two analytic methods show a good agreement.

Precise prediction of resonance frequency has been the subject of numerous papers related to Helmholtz resonator design because of its high performance at the frequency. The resonance frequency is dependent upon not only the internal dimensions of resonator but also the external boundary conditions such as the existence of other resonators in Helmholtz resonator array panel. However, the latter effect, which changes the external end correction of resonator, has not been well studied. We propose a formula to calculate the radiation impedance (or external end correction) of Helmhoitz resonator array panel. Any distance between adjacent resonators and any angle of Incidence can be allowed in the method. Numerical examples show how and how much the distance affects the resonance frequency of the panel. It is also found that the maximum absorption of the panel varies with the resonator arrangement.

This study presents experimental results from the performance test of a scaled reverberation chamber for measurement of sound insulation of panels. Experimental investigations were conducted in various parameters such as tunneling effect source locations, and maximum sound transmission loss. It is evident that the tunneling effect which means the variation with specimen location on the test frame gives rise to more than 3 dB deviation. One of the objective of this study that compares measured results between a real reverberation chamber and a simplified test apparatus, by using a specimen of a sandwich panel. It shows qualitatively resonable agreement from which one can find a potential to provide a design tool.

The radiated noise from the automotive intake system should be predicted at the design stage. To this end, the precise measurement of in-duct acoustic source parameters of the intake system, i.e., the source strength and source impedance, is essential. Most of previous works on the measurement of acoustic source parameters were performed under a fixed engine speed condition. However, the requirement of vehicle manufacturer is the noise radiation pattern as a function of engine speed. In this study, the direct method was employed to measure the source parameters of engine intake system under a fixed engine speed and engine run-up condition. It was noted that the frequency spectra of source impedance hardly changes with varying the engine speed. Thus, it is reasonable to calculate the source strength under the engine run-up condition by assuming that source impedance is invariant with engine speed. Measured and conventional source models, i.e., constant pressure source, constant velocity source, and non-reflective source, were utilized to predict insertion loss and radiated sound pressure level. A reasonable prediction accuracy of radiated sound pressure level spectra from the intake system was given in the test vehicle when using the measured source characteristics which were acquired under the operating condition.

Theoretical models to study the vibro-acoustic performance of a sandwich panel are proposed. The wave propagation characteristics are analyzed, and dispersion relation is derived. The vibration Is analyzed using the Mindlin plate theory. The vibration of the compliantly supported Mindlin plate is investigated using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The Timoshenko beam functions are used as trial functions. The model is applied to numerically investigate the influence of the plate mechanical properties. The vibro-acoustic properties are mostly determined by bending deformation at low frequencies. At higher frequencies, the shear deformation has a strong influence. The proposed numerical model is used to estimate the optimal panel properties that result in minimum sound radiation. With increasing dynamic stiffnesses the vibration response decreases but the radiating wavenumber components increase.

In the reactive concentric resonator, perforated inner tubes are widely used for various purposes related to noise reduction, flow guiding, and structural aspects. Perforation distribution patterns influence both the acoustic performance and mechanical performance. In this study, the influence of distribution patterns on acoustic performance are explained by adopting the concept of extended inlet/outlet length. Predicted transmission with varying extended inlet/outlet length is compared with prediction by varying distribution patterns. The transmission loss difference due to perforation distribution patterns can be explained by changing the extended inlet/outlet length of the uniformly perforated resonator.

The acoustical performance of porous materials is determined by their seven or more macroscopic physical properties. However, it is not easy to measure all these properties in many cases. Furthermore, the measurement is compels engineers to spend much times. The effect of each property on the normal incidence absorption coefficient and normalized surface impedance was studied to estimate the properties of porous materials by numerical method. According to the investigation, Properties of porous materials are divided into several groups and estimated by each group. This paper is focused on the estimation procedure of porous materials by the numerical method.

This study is an measurement and prediction of transmission loss through dash panel with multi-path in a vehicle. Measurement results of transmission loss are derided by sound power measured using the sound intensity method under locating a sound source in the anechoic room and reverberant room, respectively. Prediction one is decided by multi-path analysis of dash panel composed by a various part of materials and complicated shape. Finally, two results show a great agreement between measured and predicted transmission loss.

Vibration transmitted through rolling tire is a major source of road noise in vehicle interior noise on the range of low frequency.(
$0{\sim}500Hz$ ) Among various road noises, tire cavity noise has very peak on$200{\sim}250Hz$ . And generally it is generated by cavity resonance of tire. In this paper, tire cut-sample is used to calculate the tire cavity frequency. Cavity resonance frequency of tire is measured through vertical/tangential forces at load cell of axle using drum cleat impact. This method is useful to find cavity peak because measured forces do not have complex peaks. And changing the test conditions (air inflation, loads), tire cavity resonance characteristics are identified. Finally, vehicle interior noise is measured as tire/vehicle are changing. As difference of tire vertical force is bigger, interior noise level is higher at cavity frequency. Also we can assume that vehicle sensitivity is important factor at tire cavity noise. -
This paper presents a robust design of vehicle interior noise using Taguchi method and a substructure synthesis method with a hybrid model. Firstly, the proposed method identifies the critical process of the concerned interior noise through a TPA (Transfer Path Analysis). Secondly, a strategy for a robust design is discussed, in which the major noise factor among uncertainties in the process is quality distribution of rubber bushes connecting a cradle and a trimmed body. Thirdly, a virtual test model fer the process is developed by applying a substructure synthesis method with a hybrid modeling approach. Fourthly, virtual tests are carried out according to the predefined tables of orthogonal array in Taguchi robust design process. The process was performed under 2 sub-steps. The first step is sensitivity analysis of 31 panels, and the other step is weight optimization of mass dampers on sensitive panels. Finally, two vehicles with the proposed countermeasures were validated. The proposed method reduces 87.5% of trials of measurements due to the orthogonal arrays and increases robustness by 8.6dB of S/N ratio and decreases
$5\;dB(A){\sim}10\;dB(A)$ of interior noise in the concerned range of RPM. -
The hybrid CAE/CAT methods are widely applied to product development in various fields because this method can predict the response of the whole system when a part of the system is changed. Especially, the hybrid CAE/CAT method is very useful to predict tile vehicle NVH characteristics after changing some parts of the vehicle. Target parts can be established on the basis of test models and FE models of the prototype constructed in the planning stage of car development. In this study, the topic was focused on the proper test-based FBS application process to predict vehicle NVH characteristic. First, the test-based FBS method was apply to vehicle substructure and car-body. And then the test-based model was replaced with FE model to apply hybrid CAE/CAT method. The replaced FE model was modified through the optimization process. The interior noise in vehicle during the drive was predicted with Modified FE model, then the predicted results were verified by experimenting with actual modified model.

The tire is considered as one of the Important noise sources having an influence on vehicle's performance. The Pattern noise of a tire is the transmission sound of airborne noise. On smooth asphalt road, Pattern noise is amplified with the velocity. In recent, the study on the reduction of Pattern noise is energetically processed. Pattern noise is strongly related with pitch sequence. To reduce the pattern noise, tire's designer has to randomize the sequence of pitch. The FFT is a traditional method to evaluate the level of the randomization of the pitch sequence, but gives no information on time-varying, instantaneous frequency. In the study, we found that Time-Frequency transform is a useful method to non-stationary signal such as tire noise.

Roughness of a road is an important parameter which not only indicates vehicle's vibration and noise, but it is also related to the contact force of the tire which is induced by tire's deformation and vibration. Since tire noise indeed comes from this deformation and vibration, the estimation of the force is the key factor fur the reduction of tire noise. Because of the difficulty of directly measuring the contact force, the indirect estimation is enforced from the vibration signature measured on the tire support. This study suggests the "inverse filtering" technique well known in modern digital signal processing, so as to reform the tire contact force from monitored vibration signals.

Diesel particulate filter (DPF) is comprised of a number of capillary tubes enclosed by porous ceramic wails, shaped like a plugged duct. Hot gas flows through the DPF along with the exhaust noise from Diesel engine. Based on previous works on the sound propagation through DPF, in this study, losses at entrance, exit, and ceramic walls are considered and the gradients in temperature and flow velocity are considered. Transfer matrix at entrance, monolith, and exit parts are obtained by employing the segmental approach in analyzing the sound propagation through DPF. The predicted transmission loss agrees very well with the empirical one, which is measured by the improved method with correction terms.

The radiated noise of the excavator is composed of the various noise sources such as the diesel engine, cooling fan and hydraulic system, so the noise reduction for each noise source is required. In this study, the source contribution analysis for these principal noise sources is performed by using the noise source removal method. And to reduce the noise due to each one, the various experiments and analyses are studied. On the basis of these results, the proper reduction countermeasures are derived to develop the excavator satisfied the$2^{nd}$ noise regulation of EU. -
Until now LPG car has drived used to mixer and vaporizer. So LPG car always has problems back fire and when in the winter. LPG Car's Fuel consumption is rather than gasoline. But LPLi Fuel pump located in the fuel tank is directly injection in the engine. So Fuel consumption is better than LPG mixer system and result to reduced exhaust gas. In this paper to reduction of beating noise of LPLi(liquid phase LPG Injection) fuel pump. General speaking we know, beating noise is occur to near frequency each of pump. So we Modification of RPM through chang of amature turn number and area of dimension of the pump's body.

The best sunroof wind noise quality is mainly related to the sunroof deflector which affects both low-speed buffeting and high-speed aerodynamic noise. An automatic deflector-moving and noise-measuring apparatus is developed to obtain hundreds of measuring data which haven't been available by hand. With an additional program for fast and easy noise analysis, this device leads quickly to the better position and angle of the deflector. Now, the 'better' means the lower noise level and the robuster design solution. From these kinds of better solutions, more meaningful guidelines on the deflector design and sunroof wind noise reduction can be suggested.

The objective of this paper is to perform measurements of power transmission and reflection coefficients in a coupled plate. The coupled plate has been divided into 2 subsystems. The out-of-plane vibration has been only considered with assumption of relatively small in-plane vibration. The coupling loss factors have been measured with consideration of the power balance condition. The power transmission and reflection coefficients has been estimated from the measured values of the coupling loss factors. The measured power transmission and reflection coefficients have been compared with the corresponding theoretical coefficients in a semi-infinite coupled plate.

In automotive engineering, the brand sound is one of the important advantage strategy in a car company. For the design of brand sound, the selection of descriptive word for a car sound is one of major works in automotive sound quality research. In paper, booming sound and rumbling sound, which are professional words used by NVH engineers are used for the design of brand sound. We employed sound metrics which are the subjective parameter used in psychoacoustics. According to most research results, the relationship between subjective evaluations and sound metrics has nonlinear characteristics and is very complex. In order to link these subjective evaluations to sound metrics, the artificial neural network technology has been applied to two-dimensional sound quality index for a passenger car. These indexes is used for 46 passenger cars, which are samples of famous cars in the world. Also the preference in car sounds is evaluated by the trained NVH engineers. We coupled this preference with booming and rumbling sounds by using artificial neural network. In future, the two -dimensional sound index and preference index are very useful fur the development of brand sound in passenger cars.

Gear whine noise of the axle and transmission is getting more important for reduction of vehicle noise, because major noise of vehicle was reduced. Therefore, in this paper, axle noise and vibration is measured, then the modal analysis and running modal analysis is applied for identification of axle gear whine noise. And To reduce axle noise, Various structural modifications are performed by using FEM and BEM techniques.

Since human listening is very sensitive to sound, a subjective index of a sound quality is required. Therefore, in the analysis for each situation, the sound evaluation is composed with sound quality factor. Many researchers spends their effort to make a more reliable and more accurate of sound in term of sound quality index for various system noise. In this study a reliable index is constructed and analyzed using correlation analysis, regression analysis and weighting factor for each sound quality factor. We have made the sound quality index that agrees with more than human subjective sensitivity which apply to various sound quality metrics. Also we applied a 'grade' metric to jury for sound evaluation, analyzed relation between sound duality index and sound quality grade. Then we will judge the sound quality level according to the sound quality grade scheme.

The air filter in engine intake system filters the dirt in the breathing air but also it attenuates the noise although the phenomenon has been regarded negligible. For the analysis of the acoustical performance of air filter, an acoustical model is suggested in this paper. The air filter consists of a porous filter element, which catches the particulate dirt, and a plastic filter box, which supports the filter element. Fibrous structure of the filter element is modeled as a micro-perforated panel using the flow resistivity and porosity. The pleated geometry of the filter element is modeled as two coupled ducts and a mathematical model is developed for the analysis of sound propagation. The filter box Is modeled as a rigid rectangular box. By combining two models, a 4-pole transfer matrix for the air filter is derived. The transmission loss calculated using the transfer matrix of the suggested model is compared with the measured data. Reasonably good agreement is observed. The result can be improved by considering the visco-thermal effect in modeling, in particular at a frequency range near the troughs of TL curve.

Body-on-frame type vehicle has a set of frame bushes which are installed between body and frame fur vibration Isolation. Such frame bushes are important vibration transmission paths to passenger space. In order to reduce the vibration level of passenger space, therefore, the change of complex stiffness of the frame bushes is more efficient than modification of other parts of the vehicle such as body, frame and suspension. The purpose of this study is to reduce the vibration level for ride comfort by optimization of complex stiffness of frame bushes. In order to do this end, simple finite element vehicle model was constructed and the complex stiffness of frame bushes was set to be design variable. Objective function was defined to reflect passenger ride comfort and genetic algorithm and sub-structure synthesis were applied for minimization of the objective function.

Ball bearings not only sustain the system, but permit the rotational component to rotate. Excessive radial or axial load and many other reasons can cause faults to be created and grown rapidly in each component. The grown faults make noise and vibration, which can make the system unstable. Therefore, it is important to detect faults as early as possible. For this reason, there have been many researches on fault detection method of early faults in a ball bearing. The fault defection methods can be categorized to several groups by signal processing methods. Not all the methods are efficient for finding early faults. We select representative methods known as efficient for detecting early faults and compare the results for inspecting which method is effective.

A reliable and practical finite element modeling technique to predict the lifetime of automotive electronics is important for engineers in reliability. In reliability evaluation on the automotive electronics, most studies rarely used FE model verification process. The material properties and boundary conditions are very important factors in this process to assure the reliability of the automotive electronics. This study aims to develop a better and more accurate FE model in order to predict fatigue life of the automotive electronics using Virtual Qualification lifetime assessment techniques. After conducting the modal analysis by the experiments to grasp a system characteristic, this paper presents material properties and boundary conditions that is obtained by the comparisons of FEA simulation results using DOE technique and the experiment results.

This paper describes the development process of steering system for reduce idle vibration through the data level of frequency and sensitivity. High stiffness and light weight vehicle is a major target in the refinement of passenger cars to meet customers' contradictable requirements between NVH performance and fuel economy. The target frequency of the steering system is set by benchmarking of a competitive vehicle and the vibration mode map is used to separate steering column modes from resonance of body structure and engine idle rpm. This paper descirbes the analysis approach process for high stiffness of steering system and the design guideline is suggested about steering column and support system by using mother car at initial design stage. We used a patent map in order to analyze accurately a technical trend and suggested the design process using dynamic damper of steering system considering sensitivity. And we established techniques of analysis on steering system and evaluated the level of accuracy of analysis through correlating the test and analysis results. It makes possible to design the good NVH performance vehicle at initial design stage and save vehicles to be used in tests. These improvements can lead to shortening the time needed to develop better vehicles.
