To enhance the cutting performance of the tool, single or multilayer coating is applied on the substrate of the tool. Coating material reduces cutting force and heat generation in tool-chip contact zone and enhances resistance against abrasive wear. This paper presents that the effect of different coatings on abrasive wear resistance varies with work material and the flank wear rate is different with depth of cut. Crater wear rate is also found to decrease with higher thermal diffusivity of coating material. It is verified that the estimated thermal diffusivity of multilayer coating has consistent effect on the crater wear.

The deflection of an end mill is very important in machining process and cutting simulation because it affects directly workpiece accuracy, cutting force, and chattering. In this study, the deflection of the end mill was studied both experimentally and by using finite element analysis. And the moment of inertia of radial cross sections of tile helical end mill is calculated for the determination of the relation between cross section and rigidity of tile tools. Using tile Bernoulli-Euler beam and and the concept of equivalent diameter, a deflection model is established, which includes most influence from tool geomety parameters. It was found that helix angle attenuates the rigidity of the end mill.

The cusp height in ball end milling, flat end milling and filleted end milling according to various surface inclination angle was calculated. The calculation result shows that, for each kind of tools, there exists certain range of inclination angle in which cusp height characteristics favorable. From machining time calculation, filleted end mill found to be superior to flat end mill in rough machining of sculptured surface.

The needs to machine hardened steels with high productivity and good surface integrity have been increased in the dies & molds industry. This paper presents some experimental results on the CBN ball endmilling for hardened tool steel. This investigation concerns on the effects of cutting speed and cutting fluids on the cutting performance such as cutting forces, tool wear, and surface finish. The wear of CBN ball endmill for each cutting conditions were also examined through the microscopic observation. It has been found out that the higher cutting speeds with cutting fluids result in better cutting performance.

This paper presents the performance of CBN tools in the machining of hardened die-materials, SKD11 and SKD61 steel with HRC 50, by high-speed face milling. Generally, grinding or EDM is being used in machining of hardened materials but the cost is very high. If those can be replaced by cutting, it will be a greatly economical advantage. CBN tool has been recognized as an effective tool in turning, but it has not been in milling. So wear and surface roughness mode of CBN tool for hardened SKD11 and SKD61 steel were investigated by high-speed face milling in this study Also the relation between cutting force and wear mode of CBN tools was investigated.

The cross section of the circular rod type workpiece to be cut in the band saw machine is variable at every moment in the sawing process. When the cutting feed rate is fixed to the constant speed, the cutting edges of the band saw teeth are also variabl eat any moment, so this causes the wear of the land saw teeth and the deterioration of the quality in the surface roughness. In this study, to work out this kind of problem basically, the mean cutting force of a tooth in the band saw was estimated by using the workpiece which was smaller than the interval of each tooth, i.e. band saw pitch, in the thickness. Then the static cutting forces were predicted by appling the mean cutting forces referred above to the mechanistic cutting force model which were analyzed through the geometric profile of a band saw tooth.

The high-speed machining is one of the most effective technology to improve productivity. Because of the high speed and high feedrate, high-speed machining can give great advantages for the machining of dies and moulds. In this paper, high-speed milling for HP-4 die material was carried out with coated tungsten carbide ball endmill. In the high-speed machining, the cutting force and surface roughness of workpiece show very various characteristics at different cutting conditions. Especially surface roughness of workpiece depends largely on pick feed and feed per revolution of ball endmill. In the condition that pick feed and feed per revolution are equal, better surface roughness is measured. By obtaining good surface roughness at high speed, efficiency of machining can be increased.

In order to realize the high-speed machining, the relative technologies for high speed machining tool and high speed machining are required now, The machining accuracy is influenced on the disturbance by the synchronized working conditions(cutting force, spindle Run-out, thermal deformation etc.) In this paper, the effect of spindle Run-out for the high speed machining is investigated. The results show that the spindle Run-out has a great influence on the machining accuracy in high speed machining.

Die sinking Electrical Discharge Machining(EDM) of TiC/Al
$_2$ O$_3$ Ceramic Matrix Composite(CMC) was conducted for positive and negative polarity according to the change of current and Duty Factor(DF). Also FEM analysis about temperature distribution of workpiece by one spark was executed. Maximum surface roughness( R$_{max}$ ) and SEM photographs of the EDMed surface for different conditions were evaluated. Higher Material Removal Rate(MRR) was obtained for negative polarity than positive one. Better surface morphology was found as the current is decreased, but the MRR was also decreased. From the SEM photographs, the size of melt cavity due to one spark is about 100 to 150${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameterer -
본 연구에서는 숫돌면의 직접관찰에 의해 적정한 드레싱 시기를 결정하는 것에 관한 연구를 수행했다. 이를 위해, 와전류센서를 숫돌주위에 설치하여 숫돌면의 눈막힘량을 비접촉식으로 직접 측정하므로서 숫돌의 상태를 검출했다. 숫돌의 재생작용에 의한 정상연삭과 눈막힘에 의한 이상연삭의 구분은 검출된 눈막힘량과 가공면 표면거칠기의 상관괘적(Relational Locus)을 통해 드레싱 시기를 결정했다. 또한 이때의 숫돌면의 상태를 레이져 변위센서를 이용해 측정하고 3차원 Topography로 표현했다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 내용들에 대한 실험적 결과들을 소개한다.

An experimental study on the grinding temperature and Acoustic Emission(AE) signals due to the different shapes of wheel was conducted. The grinding characteristics by slotted shapes of wheel changed by width and helical angle, were compared with those by general one. Lower grinding temperature was obtained for 30
$^{\circ}$ helical angle with 10mm width, Root Mean Square(RMS) values of AE signals were higher for slotted wheel rather than general one. -
This paper experimentally describes the grinding characteristic of discontinuous grinding wheels in creep-feed grinding. In creep-feed grinding, grinding temperature increases rapidly and thermal damage such as a burn occurs on a workpiece. Discontinus grinding wheel with Conventional grinding wheel shows an exellent cooling effect has been developed. The wheels have 6, 12, 24 pieces of slotted which compare with characteristics of each wheels

Tool wear monitoring is very important aspect in metal cutting because tool wear effects quarity and precision of workpiece, tool life etc. In this study we detected force signal through tool dynamometer in turning and using it we conducted 6th AR modeling and fractal analysis. Finally the back-propagation model of the neural network is utilized to monitor tool wear and features are extracted through AR model and fractal analysis.

The wear of partially coated pinion cutters under several cutting conditions was studied. In the realm of this experiment, chipping was a dominant tool wear mechanism and flank wear was much larger than crater wear. Under the condition of relatively low rotary feed and low radial feed rate, the wear due to chipping was concentrated at the nose part of pinion cutter. Increasing of rotary feed and radial feed rate alleviated the concentration of chipping at nose and prolonged tool life.

This paper aims at reviewing the Possibility application over normal or abnormal, detection used by AE and the wear characteristics of grinding process. In this study, when diamond bur in dentistry with chosen grinding conditions were tuned at grinding. The variation of grinding resistance and hE signal is detected by the use of AE measuring system. The tests are carried out in accordance with diamond burs and workpiece; arcyl and bovine. According to the experiment results, the following can be expected; AE has the possibility to detect the state normality and abnormality. However, the grinding resistance measuring can find it difficult to detect it. It can be accurately excerpted from AE occurrence pattern in contact start point of diamond bur and bovine, grinding condition and derailment point. It is known that AE
$\_$ rms/ is well compatible with grinding resistance. According to the increase of the material removal rate, the specific energy of the diamond bur is inclined to decrease and the grinding resistance has a tendency to increase. -
This paper was undertaken to analyze the morphology of wear debris for operating condition evaluatio of lubricated machine surfaces. The lubricating wear test was carried out under different experimental conditions using tile wear test device was made in our laboritory and wear testing spcimen of the pin on disk type was rubbed in paraffine series base oil, by varying specimen, applied load, sliding distance. The four shape parameters (50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity) to describe morphology of wear debris have been developed and are outlined in tile paper. A system using such techniques promises to obviate the need for subjective, human interpretation of particle morphology in machine condition monitoring

Thermal problems of creep-feed grinding are more serious than regular grinding. So grinding fluid supply in creep-feed grinding is very important. Grinding fluid supply quantity is not linear with effectiveness because grinding wheel is porosity material and the grinding area is solid contact area. In this paper, by using AE signal, optimal quantity of fluid supply was determined. And surface characteristics of wet creep-feed grinding were analized.

The form accuracy of parts has become an important parameter. Therefore dimensional tolerance and geometric tolerance are used in design to satisfy required quility and functions of parts. But the informations for machining conditions, which can satisfy the assigned geometric tolerance in design, are insufficient. The objectives of this research are to study the effects of the grinding parameters such as traverse speed, work speed, depth of cut, and dwell time on the after-ground workpiece shape, and to find out the major parameters among these parameters. Finally, a methodology is proposed for getting the optimal grinding condition for precision workpiece The results are as follows; The effects of work speed and depth of cut on workpiece shape are ignorable compared to the effect of traverse speed. These is the optimal dwell time depending on the traverse speed. The optimal dwell time is decreasing when the traverse speed is increased.

This paper describes the characteristics of micro-burr formation in the cross hatch and deburring in honed surfaces. Two types of micro-burrs formed in the cross hatch were defined as upper edge burr (type A) and side edge burr (type B). The size of micro-burrs were measured for the honed surfaces of several cross hatch angle. Deburring mechanism and system using magneto-electrolytic process including the abrasive pad for mechanic deburring effects together were introduced. Deburring experiments and analysis were carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the deburring process.

The calculation of the total power required at the Continuous Extrusion Forming(CONFORM) has been performed by the theoretical analysis of three transformation regions(primary grip length and extrusion grip length, flashing). In this study, that was performed by five transformation regions(biting, upsetting, filling, extruding, flashing)and four transformation regions(biting, upsetting and filling, extruding, flashing) and then results of theoretical analyses were compared with experimental results. Results of analysis by four and five transformation regions than that of three transformation regions in the CONFORM showed in a good agreement with experimental results.

The objective of this study is to consider the induction heating process and to develop the finite element program to analyze the behaviour of semi-solid materials. The semi-solid material is assumed to be composed of solid region as rigid visco-plastic model and liquid region following Darcy's law. Induction heating process is analyzed using finite element software, ANSYS, and also the behaviour of a semi-solid material considering induction heating is analyzed using developed finite element program.

An estimation of surface roughness value is a very important and difficult issue in grinding process. The definition of the D.A.R.F(Dimensionless Average Roughness Factor) has been made including the absolute average and tile standard deviation that are the parameters of the AE(Acoustic Emission) sign. The theoretical equation of the surface roughness applying the D.A.R.F has been derived from the regressive analysis and specified with respect to the availability through the experimental approach on the machine.

The tendency of wrinkling formation on the flange of a deep-drawn rectangular container was investigated experimentally under different process conditions. Such process variables as blank size, sheet thickness, blank-holding force, and depth of drawing are chosen to examine their effects on the flange wrinkles of the products. Number and amplitudes of the wrinkles are measured along the periphery of the flange and compared between each case of process condition.

본 연구에서는 사다리꼴 용기의 성형성을 여러종류의 블랭크를 사용하여 실험하였으며, 소재의 두께 및 유동현상을 성형성의 평가와 블랭크의 크기결정을 위해서 측정하였다. 이러한 결과 성형품의 파단위치는 단변부의 코너임을 확인하였고, 전단영역에 인접한 직변부 부근의 플랜지 가장자리가 두꺼워지는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 코너컷은 코너에 인접한 2개의 전단영역의 가장자리를 연결하는 선과 평행하게 하는 것이 좋다는 결과를 얻었다.

A simple kinematically admissible velocity field for closed-die forging of clutch teeth is analysed which takes account of the profiled teeth chosen kinematically by approximating these as straight taper teeth. The upper bound load and the deformed configurations are predicted by the velocity field at varying punch movements considering differing frictional factors. Experiments were carried out using a model material of plasticine at room temperature where talcum powder was used as a lubricant. The theoretical predictions of the forging load and the relative pressures are found to be in reasonably good agreement with the experimental results.

The theoretical study of deformation behavior for continous extrusion process (CONFORM) is shown in this paper. The extrusion process is compared with a conventional route, side extrusion, considering extrusion ratios, flash gaps and coefficients of friction. In each case the distribution of strain and strain rate is predicted by using the finite element method. In this study simplifying assumptions on the deformation geometry are made to investigate the plastic flow occuring in the area of deformation of the Conform process.

In this paper, the clamping type forging of helical gears has been investigated. Clamping type forging is an operation in which the product is constrained to extrude sideways through an orifice in the container wall. Punch is cylindrical shaped. The punch compresses a cylindrical billet placed in a die insert. As a consequence the material flows in a direction perpendicular to that of punch movement. The forging has been analysed by using the upper-bound method. A kinematically admissible velocity field has been developed, wherein, an involute curve has been introduced to represent tooth profile of the gear. Numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters, such as module, number of teeth, helix angle, friction factor and initial height of billet on the forging of helical gears.

Static variations of cutting forces are estimated using spindle motor current. Static sensitivity of spindle motor current is higher than feed motor current. The linear relationship between the cutting force and RMS value of the spindle motor current is obtained. Using cutting force estimation, tool overload in milling process can be well detected, and cutting force is regulated at a constant level by feedrate adaptive control.

In the geometric accuracy, most of studies have been concentrated on the analysis of the geometric error, or a control path of grinding using the value of measured geometric error. In this paper, by using the value of measured motor current through hall sensor, detection of the geometric error have been accomplished, and in-process control path of grinding for improvement geometric accuracy, too.

This paper presents a position control of ultra-precision machine tool post using piezoelectric material. A stack-type piezoelectric actuator Is employed in a hinge-type tool holder. An assumed linear transfer function of the practical nonlinear plant is established through the comparison of transfer functions and step responses in the experiments and the simulations. Several types of feedforward/feedback controllers are designed via computer simulations using the assumed linear transfer function. The position tracking control experiments are undertaken to show the control efficiency of each controller.

Chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) has become widely accepted for the planarization of multi-interconnect structures in semiconductor manufacturing. However, perfect planarization is not so easily achieved because it depends on the pattern sensitivity, the large number of controllable process parameters, and the absence of a reliable process model, etc. In this paper, we realized the planarization of deposited oxide layers followed by metal (W) polishing as a replacement for tungsten etchback process for via formation. Atomic force microscope (AFM) is used for the evaluation of pattern topography during CMP. As a result, AFM evaluation is very attractive compared to conventional methods for the measurement of planarity. Moreover, it will contribute to analyze planarization characteristics and establish CMP model.

The rapid structural change of ULSI chip includes minimum features, multilevel interconnection and large diameter wafers. Demands for the advanced chip structure necessitates the development of enhanced deposition, etching and planarization techniques. Planarization refers to a process that make rugged surfaces flat and uniform. One of the emerging technologies for planarization is chemical mechanical polishing(CMP). Chemical and mechanical removal actions occur during CMP, and both appear to be closely interrelated. The purpose of this study is the optimal application of the slurry to the various types of device materials during CMP. We investigates the effect of slurry on CMP characteristics for thermal oxide and sputtered Al blanket wafers. Results from the polishing rate and the uniformity of residual film include mechanical and chemical reactions between several set of slurry and work material.

A fundamental study for the production of an internal combustion engine piston by forging is performed through UBET(Upper Bound Elemental Technique) analysis and experiments. In UBET analysis, an optimal preform of the aluminum piston is predicted and the results are compared with the experimental results. The internal flow pattern and and the forging loads according to the different friction condition are investigated.

In this work, a method is described to investigate the progressive and compound process in the coining and piercing operation for given conditions and parameters, using the FEM simulation and model experiment. The effect of the die shape on the compound process is established, and the die shape depends on the position of coining die and the width of the part coined. It is found that Progressive process is better than compound process, since material's filling into the die is not completed and the higher stress acts on the edge of the punch according to width being increased.

Piezoelectric actuator is widely used in precision positioning applications due to its excellent positioning resolution. However, serious hysteresis nonlinearity of the actuator deteriorates its open loop positioning capability. Generally, a nonlinear hysteresis model is used in feedforward loop to improve positioning accuracy. In this study, however, a simple lead compensator is proposed as a substitution for a complex nonlinear hysteresis model and tested through experiments for precision position control.

Grinding burn formed on the ground surface is related to the maximum temperature of workpiece surface and wheel temperature in the grinding process. The thermal characteristics of workpiece and grinding conditions on the surface temperature of the oxidation growing layer after get out of contact with the grinding wheel. The assumption used in grinding power signatures leads to the local temperature distribution between grinding wheel and workpiece, i.e., a single curve determines temperatures anywhere within the grinding wheel at anytime. This information is useful in the study of the grinding bum penetration into the wheel and thus provides an presentation of grinding trouble monitoring for the burning. On the basis of grinding power signatures in the wheel, thermally optimum conditions are defined and controlled. To cope with grinding burn, the use of grinding power signatures is an effective monitoring systems when occurring the grinding process. In this paper, the identified parameters suggested in this study which are derived from the grinding power signatures are presented.

Recently, in order to achieve high flexibility of manufacture, monitoring and control strategies cf a new type have been developed. Since the generation of built-up edge on the cutting tool damages the surface finish of the workpiece, the monitoring system of built-up edge is an important process monitoring. In this study, the analyzing methods of cutting force signal to detect the built-up edge during cutting process are described. The cutting force signals are analyzed using the mean, standard deviation and mean to standard deviation of this cutting signals. We can obtain the guide to detect the built-up edge during turning process.

A major problem in automation of turning operation is the difficulty in obtaining a sufficient and reliable chip control. Therefore it becomes desirable to find a method which can detect the chip form. In this paper, a method of the identification of chip form using output of pyrometer and neural network technique is developed. An efficiency of developed method is examined by experiments in turning and the validity of it is confirmed.

Recently, with the development of NC and CNC machine tools and the high labor wage, the cutting process requires the high speed and automatic system which uses industrial robots and the flexible manufacturing system(FMS) that combines several machine tools. In this system, the whole system can be influenced by just one of the machin tools. So it needs to detect a problem and to solve it immediately In in-process state. The monitoring system through measuring the motor current with current sensor has been attracting the attention of lots of researchers view of its low cost and flexibility. By using the pattern discriminant with the detected three-phase-current signal, that is,
$I_{RMS}$ , a system which can monitor and analyze abnormal machining process condition of the workpiece during the machining will be able to be developed in this research.h. -
Piezoelectric actuators exhibit limited accuracy in tracking control due to their hysteresis nonlinearity. In this study a digital tracking control approach for a piezoelectric actuator based on incorporating a feedback linearization loop with a PID feedback controller is presented. The hysteresis nonlinearity of the piezoelectric actuator is modeled in the feedback compensation loop using the Maxwell slip model. Experiments were performed on a piezoelectric 2-axis linear positioner for tracking linearly decaying sinusoidal waveforms and circles. The experimental results show that the tracking control performance is noticeably improved by augmenting the feedback loop with a model of hysteresis in the feedback compensation loop.

This paper presents an active position control of a moving table utilizing ER(electro-rheological) brake and ER clutch. A transformer oil-based ER fluid is composed and its Bingham properties are evaluated with respect to electric fields. The dynamics of the actuators : ER brake and ER clutch, are identified through experiments, and subsequently the governing equation of motion of the moving table system is formulated from the governing equation, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve an accurate position control. Both simulation and experimental results and presented in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control methodology.

Eigenstructure (eigenvalues/eigenvectors) assignment has been shown to be a useful tool for flight control system design. In the sense of the eigenstructure assignment, the effectiveness and disturbance suppressibility of a controller depend mainly on the left eigenstructure (eigenvalues/left eigenvectors) of a system. On the other hand, the disturbance decouplability is governed by the right eigenstructure (eigenvalues/right eigenvectors) of the system. In this paper, in order to obtain a disturbance decouplable as well as effective and disturbance suppressible controller, a concurrent assignment methodology of the left and right eigenstructures is proposed. The biorthogonality condition between the left and right modal matrices of a system as well as the relations between the achievable right modal matrix and state selection matrices are used to develop the methodology. The proposed concurrent eigenstructure assignment methodology guarantees that the desired eigenvalues are achieved exactly and the desired left and right eigenvectors are assigned to the best possible(achievable) sets of eigenvectors in the least square sense, respectively. The proposed design methodology is applied to designing a lateral flight control system for an L-1011 aircraft with disturbances.

The purpose of this paper is to study the tension control in a web transport system. Direct self-tuning regulator method was applied to tension controller and variable-gain PID control algorithm was applied to web speed controller. The designed controllers compensated for the time-varying parameters and tracked reference tension in process speed changing. The simulation shows that direct STR tension controller improves tension control performance in comparison with other controllers.

A general procedure for motion capture and mimic system has been delineated. Utilizing sensors operated in the magnetic fields, complicated and optimized movements are easily digitized to analyze and reproduce. The system consists of a motion capture module, a motion visualization module, a motion plan module, a motion mimic module, and a GUI module. Design concepts of the system are modular, open, and user friendly to ensure the overall system performance. This procedure is being implemented on a virtual cyber cube. and an inverted pendulum. With modifications, this procedure can applied for complicated motion controls.

A disturbance rejection controller using eccentricity filtering and LQ control techniques is proposed to alleviate significantly the effect of roll eccentricity in multivariable cold-rolling processes. Fundamental problems such as process time delay inherent in exit thickness measurement and non-stationary characteristics of roll eccentricity signals can be overcome by the proposed control method. The filtered instantaneous estimate of roll eccentricity may be exploited to improve instantaneous estimate of the exit thickness variation based on roll force and roll gap mearsurements, and a feedforward compensator is augmented as a reference for a gaugemeter thickness estimator. And, LQ feedback controller is combined with eccentricity filter for the attenuation of the exit thickness variation due to the entry thickness variation. The simulation results show that eccentricity components have been significantly eliminated and simultaneously other distrubances also have been attenuated.

This paper describes a system for measurement and control of a gas flow. In order to measure the flux of gas and control a vavle according to flux, this system was developed. This system is implemented on the personal computer and its environment is developed tool called TMS. This system includes a main program and Tele-Metering Unit for transmitting correcting flow value based on temperature and pressure in flow computer and AD converter for transmitting instantaneous flow rate, temperature and pressure as interface part of personal computer. This system was made by Visual C++ program. Using this system, inspected data for the recognition of transmitting flow value are generated on the screen, file and printer. The activity, reliability of this system was verified on Daegu-Citygas that aids the system for the acquisition of inspected data by realtime application.

In this paper, we presents neural network identification and control of highly complicated nonlinear Left Ventricular Assist Device(LVAD) system with a pneumatically driven mock circulation system. Generally the LVAD system need to compensate nonlinearities. Hence, it is necessary to apply high performance control techniques. Fortunately, the neural network can be applied to control of a nonlinear dynamic system by learning capability. In this study, we identify the LVAD system with Neural Network Identification. Once the NNI has learned the dynamic model of LVAD system, the other network, called Neural Network Controller(NNC), is designed for control of a LVAD system. The ability and effectiveness of identifying and controlling a LVAD system using the proposed algorithm will be demonstrated by computer simulation.

In this study, performance improvement of the inverse modeling as the on-line control method for the estimation, control experiment is performed. As the modeling errors is occurred in duct system arbitrarily, a case using the filtered-x LMS algorithm only as the control method, a case using tile inverse modeling method only and a case using the inverse modeling with the adaptive line enhancer are compared. The estimation errors between real secondary path transfer functions and the estimated and the control performances of primary noises with these estimated transfer functions are compared.

This study deals with the speed control of an overcentered variable-displacement hydraulic motor on a constant pressure network, which is noted for its high system efficiency fast dynamic response and energy recovery capability. The speed control characteristics of the conventional cascade PI controller are largely affected by load-torque disturbances. To obtain robust speed control despite torque disturbances, the load torque is estimated by an observer based on a mathematical model and compensated for by a feedforward loop. It is shown by experiment that robust speed control may be obtained with the proposed controller. The experimental data agree fairly well with the theoretical analysis.

An asymmetrical cross-coupled compensator to improve the contouring performance is proposed. This is a refinement of the structure suggested by Koren. The position loop is closed with a proportional controller as in the uncoupled system. An additional input term proportional to the component of the contour error along the corresponding axis Is included. The controller gains are chosen to give an appropriate frequency response and an optimum range for the damping ratio. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is studied by means of digital simulations of the dynamics of the drives and the controller for 3 types of command trajectories; straight line contour, cornering contour, circular contour. Substantial improvement in contouring performance is obtained for a range of contouring conditions.

The exhaust noise reduction of automobile with the active muffler is experimentally investigated. The control algorithm is the filtered-x LMS algorithm and the inverse algorithm with the adaptive line enhancer. Also, the control efficiency is increased with synthesized second harmonic engine frequency. In the experiment, the active muffler is applied to the end of exhaust system in automobile and the control with on-line secondary path modeling method(inverse algorithm) is compared the control of off-line secondary path modeling method. As secondary path transfer functions are changed, the experimental results show that the control performance with on-line method is more efficient than that with off-line method in the exhaust noise reduction of automobile.

This paper discusses several design factors of a capacitance displacement sensor with a numerical method and several experiments and describes guide lines of the design of this type sensor. We introduce the charge density method for the analysis of this type sensor, which has feasible accuracy and efficiency. The analysis of this type sensor with the charge density method agrees with displacement sensitivity experiments of a circular plate capacitance sensor with the sensor amp based In the charge transfer principle.

This paper presents 3D position estimation algorithm with the images of 2D vision sensors which issues Red Laser Slit light and recieves the line images. Since the sensor usually measures 2D position of corner(or edge) of a body and the measured point is not fixed in the body, the additional information of the corner(or edge) is used. That is, corner(or edge) line is straight and fixed in the body. For the body which moves in a plane, the Transformation matrix between the body coordinate and the reference coordinate is analytically found. For the 3D motion body, linearization technique and least mean squares method are used.

$\mu$ theory can handle the parametric uncertainty and produces more non-conservative controller than H$_{\infty}$ control theory. However an existing solution of the theory, D-K iteration, creates a controller of huge order and cannot handle the real or mixed real-complex perturbation sets. In this paper, we use genetic algorithms to solve these problems of the D-K iteration method. The Youla parameterization is used to obtain all stabilizing controllers and the genetic algorithms determines the values of the state feedback gain, the observer gain, and Q parameter to minimize$\mu$ , the structured singular value, of given system. From an example, we show that this method produces lower order controller which controls a real parameter-perturbed plant than D-K iteration method. -
The performance of the failure detection algorithm may be greatly influenced by the model uncertainty. It is very important to design a robust failure detection system to the model uncertainty. In this paper, a design procedure to generate failure detection algorithm is proposed. The design procedure suggested is based on the concept of the‘threshold selector[1]’. The H
$\infty$ control algorithm is used to derive a threshold selector which is robust to the model uncertainty, The threshold selector derived can be used to develop a failure detection system together with the weighted cumulative sum algorithm[3]. Computer simulation study showed that the failure detection system designed for an ISA(Integrated Servo Actuator) system by using the proposed method is robust to the model uncertainty. -
This work deals with description of gas purifing system to product high pure helium gas using low temperature absorption. The system controls temperature of heaters, open/close of solenoid valves and levels of liquid nitrogen to purify a raw gas and continuously products purified gas with perfoming alternatively purification and regeneration. We develop the monitoring and control program to monitor the gas purification process on real-time and control the process time with checking the impurities in purified gas. From the result of system operation, the developed monitoring and control system continuously products high pure helium gas with reducing impurities in raw gas to permitted limits(less than 0.01 ~ 0.05 ppm)

This paper presents a technique to control a robot which has a flexible manipulator moving in a vertical plane. The flexible manipulator is modeled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam. Elastic deformation is represented using the assumed modes method. A comparison function which satisfies all geometric and natural boundary conditions of a cantilever beam with an end mass is used as an assumed mode shape. Lagrange's equation is utilized for the development of a discretized model. A control algorithm is developed using a simple PID control technique. The proportional, integral and derivative control gains are determined based on the dominant pole placement method and tuned to show no overshoot and having a short settling time. The effectiveness of the developed control scheme is showed experimentally. In the position control experiment, three different end masses are used. The experimental results shows little overshoot, no steady state error, and less than 2.5 second settling time in case of having an end mass which is equivalent to 45% of the total system weight. Also the residual vibration of the end point is effectively controlled.

We develope 3D vision system and camera unit using structured lighting for this purpose. A simple ar d efficient scheme for gap and thickness feature recognition Is developed as well as measurements. Experimental results shows this system measuring accuracy is 10
${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 16${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for gap and thickness difference respectively The data are expexed to be useful for preview gap control. -

In this research, technic of AE is used for monitoring abnormal rotary compressor and an AE parameter which is a most proper parameter to monitor the abnormal state of compressor is determined by signal processing, Finally, the monitoring result of rotary compressor is agreement with the result of life test.

This paper presents the dynamics and the teal-time control of a horizontally rotating inverted pendulum. The dynamic equations representing three degrees of freedom rigid body motion of the pendulum are derived, and the state feedback controller is applied to the motion control of the pendulum. A 32 bit counter board with 16 bit hardware communication ability is developed to improve the real-time control performance and is applied to a horizontally rotating inverted pendulum. The simulation and experimental studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the developed pendulum system and the timing in the real-time control is analyzed.

In optical disk drives, one of commonly used pickup actuator is a Sliding and rotary type of pickup actuator which is cheaper than other pickup actuators and has simple assembly. However, it reported that non-linearity due to friction between a shaft and a sleeve had to be considerably analyzed in design and servo system in employing this type of pickup actuator. In this paper, this friction is modeled as a Coulomb's friction and the effect of friction is examined in the simulation. A digital servo system is applied to pickup actuator with friction in order to have good focusing servo. To enhance focusing servo performance using digital servo merit, frist PD-controller is applied to have fast response performance, second lead-lag compensator is applied to have stable focusing performance.

In optical disc system, lens actuator of 4-wire has unwanted moment which occurs tilt. The moment around the axis pallet to the tangential direction of the disk occurs to the moving part. when the moving part is moved in tracking direction and focus driving force is applied. This paper analyzed coupled effect due to the moment based on structural analysis and magnetic field analysis, both using finite element method.

Nowadays, Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry is a well established measuring technique with a wide range of industrial applications, particularly in the fields of deformation measurement and vibration analysis. Comparing with holographic inteferometry, it has some attractive features, which are rapid recording and reconstruction, satisfiable automation etc. Time-average ESPI was used to provide vibration mode shape of an object whose vibration amplitude is given as a fringe pattern. However, it is not possible to determine the direction of motions of a point on the object at any given time, because time-average method does not give any information about the phase of vibration. A better technique is stroboscopic method which can measure the amplitude and phase of vibrating surface. In this paper, loudspeakers were tested by these two methods and the mode shape and amplitude of vibration were visualized. As measured results, we can assume that these techniques will be applied directly in the loudspeaker industry.

And then it is analyzed the dynamic behaviour characteristics of damping mechanism.

The damping force of shock absorber in an automobile is determined by the components which construct the S/A. In this study we investigate the individual effect of these components on damping force. In addition, opening of important valve doling compression and tension cycle due to up-down reciprocation movement is also researched. Thus we are to strictly control the properties and tolerance of components having important effects on tile damping force and to produce S/A of better quality.

Recently, a new technique called Electronic Speckle Pattern Inteferometry(ESPI) has been developed to overcome the drawbacks of existing holography. This technique enable real-time interference fringes to be displayed directly on TV monitor without recourse to any form of photographic processing. This research was carried out for the purpose of applying the vibration analysis method employing Electronic Speckle Pattern Interference technique to the vibration analysis of uniform rectangular cantilever plate, The natural vibration frequencies found by ESPI were in fair agreement with theoretical eigen frequencies acquired using theoretical formula G. B. Warburton proposed.

The closed-loop system modeling of an Active/semiactive suspension system has been accomplished through an artificial neural Networks. The 7DOF full model as the system equation of motion has been derived and the output feedback linear quadratic regulator has been designed for the control purpose. For the neural networks training set of a sample data has been obtained through the computer simulation. A 7DOF full model with LQR controller simulated under the several road conditions such as sinusoidal bumps and the rectangular bumps. A general multilayer perceptron neural network is used for the dynamic modeling and the target outputs are feedback to the input layer. The Backpropagation method is used as the training algorithm. The modeling of system and the model validation have been shown through computer simulations.

This paper presents a robust force tracking control of a small-sized SMA gripper with two fingers using shape memory alloy(SMA) actuators. The mathematical governing equation of the proposed system is derived by Hamilton's principle and Lagrangian equation and then, the control system model is integrated with the first-order actuator dynamics. Uncertain system parameters such as time constant of the actuators are also included in the control model. A robust two degree of freedom(TDF) controller using H
$_{\infty}$ control theory, which has inherent robustness to model uncertainties and external disturbances, is adopted to achieve end-point force tracking control of the two-finger gripper. Force tracking control performances for desired trajectories represented by sinusoidal and step functions are evaluated by undertaking both simulation and experimental works. -
It is prerequisite to apply dynamics controller to control robot manipulator required to perform fast and Precise motion. In this Paper, we Propose an adaptive 3earning control method for the dynamic control of a robot manipulator. The proposed control scheme is made up of PD controller in the feedback loop and the adaptive learning controller in the feedforward loop. This control scheme has the ability to estimate uncertain dynamic parameters included intrinsically in the system and to achieve the desired performance without the nasty matrix operation. The proposed method is applied to a SCARA robot and experimentally verified.

A new method of nonlinear robust controller synthesis is introduced which is an extension of linear mixed
$H_2/H_{\infty}$ control. This method guarantees robust stability fur hard nonlinearity and uncertainty of the plant. The method is applied to the control of a flexible link of robot with Coulomb friction. Simulation shows good performances with respect to the response and the robustness. -
Optimal trajectory for a robot manipulator minimizing actuator torques or energy consumption in a fixed traveling time is obtained in the presence of obstacles. All joint displacements are represented in finite terms of Fourier cosine series and the coefficients of the series are obtained optimally by nonlinear programming. Thus, the geometric path need not be prespecified and the full dynamic model is employed. To avoid the obstacles, the concept of penalty area is newly introduced and this penalty area is included in the performance index with an appropriate weighting coefficient. This optimal trajectory will be useful as a geometric path in the minimum-time trajectory planning problem.

Alternate pirn winding is more difficult to control than others because starting points of its traverse strokes are changed alternately through the winding operations. However, the alternate pirn winding is ye useful method because the yarn can be hardly broken when it is unwinded from full packaged bobbin. This paper presents kinematic control algorithm for the alternate pirn. The proposed algorithm can decide the values of control variables such as bobbin speed and traverse speed from the given input parameters and constraints by using the kinematic relations of the winding mechanism. The compute simulations and experimental verifications of the developed winding control algorithm are carried out It is concluded that the proposed algorithm is an efficient and reliable alternative to traditional trial and error control methods.

As track density increases, the effects of nonlinearity in pivot bearing of hard disk drive on the servo performance are becoming more important in considering the range of inertia force and the input torque during settling and tracking mode. Recently, an increasing attention is given to more precise experimental observations and modelings of pivot nonlinearity for achieving higher performance of servo control. In this paper, we propose a new model that shows an improved prediction of the pivot nonlinearity than existing preload-plus-two-slope model at matching simulations and experimental results in both time and frequency domains. Experimental measurements are carried out to validate and identify the specific nonlinearity presents in the pivot bearing when its in fine motion. Using the experimental results new model along with the existing one are characterized and compared for relevancies.

Our unicycle has simple mechanical structure. But unicycle's dynamic system is a very sensitive unstable nonlinear system. In this paper, a fuzzy inference control mechanism was established throughout an inquiry into human riding a unicycle, and we developed a direct fuzzy controller to control our unicycle robot. This proposed fuzzy controller is consisted with fuzzy logic controllers for attitude stability and wheel's velocity. Computer simulation results show that our fuzzy controller has very powerful performance to unstable nonlinear unicycle robot system.

In This paper, we design the developed path generation method which is named that CBPM(Continuous path generation method Based artificial Potential field) that is able to be used in the obstacles environment. This CBPM is designed so that it puts together two obstacle avoidance algorithm-the continuous path generation method and the artificial potential field method. Here, the continuous path generation method generate the safety path using continuous path curvature. But, this method has demerits when used in obstacles environment in which are closely located. Another method which is named the artificial potential field method generates the path with the artificial potential field in the obstacles environment. But, APFM has local minima in certain places and unnecessarily calculates the path in which obstacles are not located. So, the developed path generation method, CBPM, is suggested and performances in many different obstacles environments are shown by using computer simulation.

In this paper we present the multi-agent robot system and the vision system developed for participating in micro robot soccer tournament. The multi-agent robot system consists of micro robot, a vision system, a host computer and a communication module. Micro robot are equipped with two mini DC motors witf encoders and gearboxes, a R/F receiver, a CPU and infrared sensors for obstacle detection. A vision system is used to recognize the position of the ball and opponent robots, position and orientation of our robots. The vision system is composed of a color CCD camera and a vision processing unit(AISI vision computer). The vision algorithm is based on morphological method. And it takes about 90 msec to detect ball and 3-our robots and 3-opponent robots with reasonable accuracy

A fuzzy teaming controller is experimentally designed to control the ball k beam system in this paper. Although most fuzzy controllers have been built just to emulate human decision-making behavior, it is necessary to construct the rule bases by using a learning method with self-improvement when it is difficult or impossible to get them only by expert's experience. The algorithm introduces a reference model to generate a desired output and minimizes a performance index function based on the error and error-rate using the gradient-decent method. In our balancing experiment of the ball & beam system, this paper shows that the fuzzy control rules by learning are superior to the expert's experience.

The semiconductor, which is precision product, requires many inspection processes. The surface conditions of the semiconductor chip affect on the functions of the semiconductors. The defects of the chip surface are cracks or voids. As general inspection method requires many inspection procedure, the inspection system which searches immediately and precisely the defects of the semiconductor chip surface is required. We suggest the detection algorithm for inspecting the surface defects of the semiconductor surface. The proposed algorithm first regards the semiconductor surface as random texture and point spread function, and secondly presents the character of texture by linear estimation theorem. This paper assumes that the gray level of each pixel of an image is estimated from a weighted sum of gray levels of its neighbor pixels by linear estimation theorem. The weight coefficients are determined so that the mean square error is minimized. The obtained estimation window(two-dimensional estimation window) characterizes the surface texture of semiconductor and is used to discriminate the defects of semiconductor surface.

The lateral-shearing interferometer specially devised for production line inspection lenses is presented. The interferometer is composed with immersion oil and four prisms whose relative sliding motion provide lateral-shearing and phase-shifting. A special phase-measuring algorithm of a-bucket is adopted to compensate the phase-shifting error caused by the thickness reduction in the immersion oil Three different algorithm for determinating quantitative aberration of aspherical lenses are presented and compared with one another.

To evaluate the surface integrity of machined products such as die, the surface roughness measurement is being much used. Especially, for machining automation and promotion of productivity, the surface roughness measurement technique changes from sepatate measuring system after machining process to the on-the-machine measurement. This study is on the surface roughness measurement by using scattered lights for on-the-machine measurement. This system is designed with a simple optical construction. And experiments are implemented with standard roughness specimen to obtain the parameters which are specularly reflected region parameter and diffusely reflected region parameter. To determine the surface roughness quickly, neural network is used. And this system gives the possibility to apply to the various production processes.

In this paper, it is proposed a new approach to the development of the automatic vision system to e famine and repair the steam generator tubes at remote distance. In nuclear power plants, workers are reluctant of works in steam generator because of the high radiation environment and limited working space. It is strongly recommended that the examination and maintenance works be done by an automatic system for the protection of the operator from the radiation exposure. Digital signal processors are used it, implementing real time recognition and examination of steam generator tubes in the proposed vision system. Performance of proposed digital vision system is illustrated by experiment for similar steam generator model.

Process monitoring in laser welding is essential for automation and quality control of products. Various signals from laser welding, such as plasma, sound, optical signals, etc., are utilized for monitoring the process and detecting abnormal weld conditions. In this study, both W light from plasma formed above the weld pool and IR signal from the melting pool are detected with photodiodes and PC-based A/D board, and analyzed to give a guidance about the weld quality. Experimental results show the possibility of using the signals for predicting and evaluating the weld qualify and adapting into the system for on-line process monitoring.

This paper describes a method of measuring tilt motion. This method measures the tilt motion of drilling machines using a laser interferometer, a simple sliding linear bearing, measurement of the probe and the LSC(least square center) method. The next order of business is discussing the procedure of measurement. First, The measured position is considered to be the point of contact between the drill shank and the probe. The revolution of the drill axis delivers the point of contact to the probe. Second, because the laser interferometer is attached on the sliding linear bearing, any movement of probe influences laser reflector. Thus, the laser program displays the moving factor of laser reflector. Namely, this is tilt factor. Third. the points of measurement are a full circle which has 8 points (each are 45
$^{\circ}$ ), After it is finished measuring the 8 points, let the spindle of the drilling machine move down about 5 cm. Repeating this procedure three times, we can get tilt motion's values which are calculated by LSC method. Many error factors affect the accurate measurement of tilt motion. However in this paper we ignore some error factors because they are less significant than tilt motion. -
In this paper, an automatic gear inspection system has been developed using the computer aided vision system. Image processing and data analysis algorithms for gear inspection have been investigated and were shown to perform quickly with high accuracy. As a result, dimensions of a gear can be measured upto few micrometer size in real time. In addition, the system can be applied to a practical manufacturing process even under noisy conditions.

Though the increment of using computer vision system in modern industry, there are lots of difficulties to measure precisely because of measurement error distortion phenomenon. Among these reasons, the distortion of edge is dominant reason which is occurred by the blurred image. The blurred image is happened when camera can not discriminate its precise focus. To calibrate and generalize distortion phenomenon is important. Thus, we must fix the discrimination criteria which is collected by image recognition of precise focus. Also, radial distortion causes an inward or outward displacement of a given image point from its ideal location. This type of distortion is mainly caused by flawed radial curvature curve of the elements. Thus, we were analyzed the distortion in terms of the changed with lens magnification.

An air flow measurement device is proposed. The thermal characteristic of a semiconductor element is adopted as a cooling parameter of thermal convection rate. The difference between forced convection and natural convection of two Zener diodes results enough difference in temperature. Experiment at various air flow conditions shows the measuring capability of the air flow in a duct. This measuring device has some merits, such as a reliability n hard field condition, simple circuit for signal processing, small volume of the element, less air flow resistance, independance of various ai temperature. The experimental result shows that it is an exact and usefull air flow measurement device.

In CMM system, a contact probe is not applicable to very small, or flexible elements. There is need to develop non-contact probes of CCD camera. But non-contact probes have some technical problems, including distortion, user interface and time delay. This development gives the foundation of the non-contact probe system and some useful solutions for the problems. The results can be useful for industry application.

This paper proposes the modeling process of web-based collaborative system in the distributed manufacturing environment. It also presents the information infrastructure in order to communicate and to share the information more efficiently among the collaboration subsystem. The web-based collaborative system consists of four processes: 1) product design, 2) procurement of DB information, 3) query process, and 4) negotiation. The proposed web-based collaborative system will be implemented with network technologies.

This paper focuses on automated generation of the knowledge base for a fuzzy network performance manager in order to satisfy delay constraints imposed on time-critical messages while maintaining as much network capacity as possible for non-time-critical messages. Therefore, the bowlegs base is formulated to minimize a certain penalty function by using a type of genetic algorithm. The efficacy of the formulation method has been demonstrated by a series of simulation experiments.

The polishing tool unit is developed which can be attached on the machining center and automatic polishing system for die and mold is also established. So, experiments are carried out under the several polishing conditions. The polishing properties of automatic polishing operation such as surface roughness, stock removal and maximum profile valley depth are obtained and analyzed quantitatively for each polishing tool. The purpose of this study is to construct an expert system for optimal condition of die and mold automatic polishing using the knowledge base that is obtained in the polishing experiments and, to verify the feasibility of the expert system through the experiments. Using this expert system, unskilled operators will be able to obtain the knowledge and experience of an expert.

Quality information is known to have the characteristic of continuous distribution in many manufacturing processes. It is difficult to describe the process condition by classifying the distribution into discrete ranges which is based on the set concept. Fuzzy control chart has been developed for the control of linguistic data but it still utilizes the dichotomous notion of classical set theory. In this paper, the fuzzy sampling method is studied in order to manage the ambiguous data properly and incorporated for generating fuzzy control chart. The method is based on the fuzzy set concept and considered to be appropriate for the realization of a complete fuzzy control chart. The fuzzy control chart was compared with the conventional generalized p-chart in the sensitivity for quality distribution and robustiness against the noise. The fuzzy control chart with the fuzzy sampling method showed better characteristics.

Recently, manufacturing industries are doing their best to increase productivity and to reduce production time. One of tile efforts is to develop user-friendly and effective CAM systems. For this purpose, a CAM system for turning was developed. In the developed system. user interacts with tile CAM system using graphical user interface (GUI) and manufacturing support functions to make NC programs effectively. Manufacturing support functions include cycle decoder. interference check be ween tool and workpicce. bar turning without air cut and dynamic/wireframe simulation. In the cycle decoder. basic options are provided to novices for their convenience. and advanced options are provided to help expert to modify the program using their knowledge. Interference check has been nil issue in tile CAM system for tuning. In this paper. when a user selects a tool. interference check between selected tools and workpieces is done automatically. Moreover. remaining shapes are calculated automatically. Then, tile CAM system requests user to input all additional tool and generates NC codes to cut tile remaining shapes. In bar turning of forged raw material, air cut should be prevented for effective machining. For this purpose, a new algorithm for bar turning was developed. Dynamic and wireframe simulation was used to verify the generated NC code.

As consumer electronics, information, and aero-space industry grow, the demand for aspheric lens increases higher. To enhance the precision and productivity of aspheric surface, a CAM system for ultra-precision aspheric surface needs to be realized. In this study, the developed CAM system can generate NC code for various aspheric surfaces fast and precisely by Tri-arc interpolation method that the location of maximum error is fixed. The cutting condition input module and the NC code verification module are adequate to ultra-precision machining, so that a operator can obtain products fast and easily.

The flow of the molten drop in the GMAW was observed to explain the mechanism of its formation and break-up process. Fluid flew analysis was made with the assumption that the electrode wire acts like fluid, and it is shown how the convection of the drop inside affects its flow, from the formation to the break-up of the drop. In later part, the process of the spray mode development at high current is shown, as well as the one of the globular mode, by the fluid flow analysis.

A new method to locate modular fixtures using an optimization technique is proposed. The optimal fixture arrangement is derived to minimize the elastic deformation of a workpiece. That is, a fixture arrangement is regarded better if it minimized the elastic deformation of the workpiece while fixing a workpart of course. In this approach, the workpiece is projected into two dimensional domain to simplify the 3-dimensional fixture arrangement problem into 2-dimensional one. Thus the problem is reduced to find the optimal positions of one horizontal clamp and three locators which minimize the total deformation of the workpiece and the design variables are the location of the contact points between the boundary of the workpiece and the 4-fixels. The Genetic Algorithm is used for the optimization by mapping each design variables to a gene of a chromosome. The fitness value is the total strain energy of the workpiece calculated by the fin element analysis.

Based on the general drill grinding mechanism, termed the helical grinding system, the conceptual design of 5 axes CNC drill grinding machine is proposed. Unique determination of the grinding parameters for precise production of the desired flank geometry is discussed by utilizing a mathematical model. Also, different combinations of grinding parameters are mentioned in order to produce various drill geometries (conical, cylindrical, and planar drill) on the single proposed CNC machine. A manual helical grinding machine has been fabricated and consequently helical drills have been ground in order to check the feasibility of the proposed grinding mechanism and its functionality.

In recently, annealing process of cold rolled sheet tend to change to continuous annealing process for improving qualify, saving yield. In the meantime as demand for various kind and small lot of products has been increasing, batch annealing has been appreciated for its small restriction for the operation. So, we tested on the effect for a hydrogen contents of atmospheric gas at annealing furnace. As a result of several investigation. We confirmed for the following characteristics ; improved productivity, uniform heating, improved surface quality, saving energy. Therefore, the use of hydrogen instead of nitrogen as the protective gas, combined with high convection in batch annealing furnaces, has shown that considerable increases in furnace output and material quality are attainable. Owing to the low density, high diffusion and reducing character of hydrogen, a better transfer resulting in uniform material temperatures and improved coil surfaces can be achieved.

The objective of STEP is to provide neutral mechanism capable of describing product data through the life cycle of a product, independent form any particular systems. This paper describes an STEP application program that can display the three-dimensional shape based on b-spline surface and the data which defines configuration of the product. The developed program is based on the STEP part 203 “Configuration controlled design”.

Stereolithography is a process used to rapidly produce stereolithographic parts directly from three dimensional CAD models. However, design methodologies necessary to create components to be built by stereolithography are different from those required by conventional machining processes. A case in point is the nescessity of support structures, which are used to support a component during the building the build but are removed once building and curing are complete. Support structures are required to anchor the component to the platform and to prevent sagging or disortion. This paper deals with the specially maintained SupportMap data structure to find some region which need support structures. Interferences between support structures and parts, as well as among support structures are checked and statically stable regions are searched to remove the surplus support structures. Cross shaped tooth profiles are designed for easy eliminating the support structures.

In this paper, we have constructed an expert system for semiconductor chip encapsulation which combines a knowledge-based system with CAE software. The knowledge-base module includes heuristic and pre-analysis knowledge for evaluation and redesign. Evaluation of the initial design and generation of redesign recommendations can be developed from the rules as applied to a given chip Package. The CAE programs can be used for simulating the filling and packing stage of encapsulation process. The expert system is a new tool which enables package design or process conditions with high yields and high productivity.

This paper describes a method for drawing check of dimension errors, such as deficiency and redundancy of dimensions, input-errors in dimension figures and symbols, etc. The logic for finding dimensional errors is written by using the Turbo C language. Checking for deficiency and redundancy of global dimensions has been performed applying Graph Theory. Especialy, this paper gives an account of checking method for annular parts.

This study is performed for investigating the effects of stripping and counter punching force on shearing characteristics in fine blanking, such as camber, burr-height and dimensional accuracy, etc by experiments. Conventional hydraulic press equipped with specially designed hydraulic unit is used for experiments so that both the stripping force and counter punching force are arbitrarily adjusted according to experimental conditions. Two kinds of materials, hot rolled steel sheet(1mm, 3mm) and pure aluminum(1mm, 3mm) are selected in order to examine the influence of strength and thickness of working materials in blanking of T-shaped products. Based on the experimental results of this study, it can be concluded that the finely cut surface of sheared blank can be obtained even in conventional hydraulic press if additional equipments and special dies are employed.

Continuous sliding mode control is applied to turning process for cutting force regulation. The highest feedrate compatible with the allowable cutting force is applied in rough cutting process such that maximum productivity is ensured and tool breakage is avoided. The programmed feedrate is overridden after the control algorithm is carried out. However, most CNC lathe manufacturers offer limited number of data bits far feedrate override, thus resulting in nonlinear behavior of the machine tools. Such nonlinearity brings “quantized” effect, and the optimal faedrate is rounded off before being fed into the CNC system. To compensate for this problem, continuous sliding mode control is applied. Conventional switching control law at a sliding surface is replaced by a smooth control interpolation in a selected boundary layer to avoid the excitation of high-frequency dynamics. Simulation results are presented in comparison with those obtained by applying adaptive control.

Sealing of lubricat-air mixture in the high performance machining conte is one of most the important characteristics to carry out enhanced lubrication. High speed spindle requires non-contact type of sealing mechanism. Evaluating an optimum seal design to minimize leakage is concerned in the aspect of flow control. Effect of geometry and leakage path are evaluated according to variation of sealing geometry, Velocity, pressure, turbulence intensity of profile is calculated to fina more efficient geometry and variables. This offers a methodological way of enhancement seal design for high speed spindle. The working fluid is regarded as two phases that are mixed flow of oil phase and air phase. It is more reasonable to simulate an oil jet or oil mist type high speed spindle lubrication. Turbulence and compressible flow model are used to evaluate a flow characteristic, This paper arranges a geometry of mostly used non-contact type seal and analyzes leakage characteristics to minimize a leakage on the same sealing area.

The feed system of the machine tools is limited by the mechanical transmission elements. However, thanks to the advanced modern technology, those machines are able to equip with linear motors. In this paper, the types and application aspects of linear motor are discussed and a synchronous type of the linear motors has been applied to X-Y table for machining center. The performance shows an outstanding result in terms of the accuracy, speed and stiffness. Machine tool system with linear motors is expected to be more productive machines using linear motor in the near next years.

The most important problem in NC machining of a freeform mold surface is removal of tool interference. In this paper three methods are introduced to remove self-intersection on offsetted freeform surface for 3-axis NC. All methods are using intersectional offset curves on original offset surface. The fast method is sequential loop check using two lines which have two neighbor points of intersectional offset curves.

Stress singularities appear at the interface edge in dissimilar materials also under thermal loading. First, these singularities then an interface meets a free side surface with an arbitrary angle are studied for a two-dimensional problem. The singular properties under thermal loading are made clear and the concrete singular field are obtained. Secondly, the dependence of stress field on elastic constants in axisymmetric dissimilar materials are. discussed. That is, it is shown that three elastic constants mutually independent are necessary, in general, to characterize the stress field of axisymmetric dissimilar materials, although Dunders' parameters defined for two-dimensional dissimilar materials have been often applied correspondingly also to axisymmetric problems.

본 연구는 4축 또는 5축 NC 공작기계에 사용되는 Rotary Table의 오차를 측정하고 이를 보정하기 위한 연구이다. 먼저 일반적인 Rotary Table에 대한 오차모델이 설정되었으며, Rotary Table에서 존재하는 6가지의 오차를 각각 측정하였다. 측정방법은 3개의 길이오차는 1 개의 정밀볼(Master ball)과 3개의 LVDT, 3개의 각도 오차는 6각 폴리곤과 Autocollimator를 사용하여 측정하였다. 측정된 오차 성분들은 오차모델을 이용하여 보상치를 계산하였으며, 이 값은 추후 원래의 측정오차와 비교하는 방법으로 모델의 정확성을 검증할 것이다. NC 공작기계상에서 Rotary Table의 실제 보상 실험을 위하여 30
$^{\circ}$ 간격으로 정밀한 볼이 장착된 볼-테이블을 설계하였다. -
The dynamic behavior of hydrostatic table is represented as the theoretical model, 1-dof, 2-dof rigid body spring-damper system, and finite element model. By the experimental and theoretical methods, the validity of these models and some other dynamic behaviors, such as the effects of unbalanced load and three dimensional motion, are investigated. To make easier to consider the dynamic behavior of hydrostatic table in design process, the stiffness and damping coefficients are calculated using the simple approximation method delived from the mass flow continuity condition, and compared with experimental results.

This paper presents adaptive cutting force control in milling process using indirect cutting force measurement. The cutting forces in X, Y, and Z axes are measured indirectly from the sensing current of the feed-drive servo motor. After modelling the feed-drive system of a horizontal machining center, the relation between the cutting force and the servo motor current is analyzed. The pulsating milling forces are measured from the sensing current within the bandwidth of the servo. It is shown that indirect cutting farce measurement can be used in adaptive cutting force control. The adaptive control scheme which is globally convergent and stable is attached to a commercial CNC machining center. Cutting experiments on end milling are performed for diagonal cutting.

For ultraprecision positioning, the use of the twist roller-type friction drive is proposed. In our study, it is difficult to decrease the resolution of positioning below 100 nm when we use general servo motors. Therefore we propose the feed hive with a small lead like a the cam-roller type traction drive leadscrew and modify it more accurately. By using the semi-loop control system, the positioning resolution of the drive can be 22.4 nm, where the pulse per revolution of the motor is 655360 and the the lead is 0.734 mm.

For compensating the error motion of hydrostatic guideways, the structure and the theoretical design method of ACC(Active Controlled Capillary) are proposed. The maximum controllable range, micro step response and dynamic characteristics of ACC are analyzed experimentally for verifing the availability. The experimental results showed that by the use of ACC, the error motion within 2.7
${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of a hydrostatic guideway can be compensated with the resolution of 27nm, 1/100 of uncontolled error, and the frequency band of 5.5Hz. From these results, it Is confirmed that the ACC is very effect to improve the moving accuracy of high or ultra precision hydrostatic guideways. -
This paper proposes a study on the effects of motion errors for acceleration/ deceleration types. The proposed motion errors are consisted of two errors : one due to transient response of servomechanism and the other due to gain mismatching of positioning servo motor. They are derived from using laplace transformation for the block diagram of general purpose feed drive system. In order to minimize them, the paper proposes second order polynomial regression model by using orthogonal array method which describes one of experimental methodolgies. The validity and reliability of the study was veri lied on a vertical machining center equipped with FANUC 0MC through a series of experiments and analyses.

Acoustic emission(AE) is monitored during end milling with a sensor attached to the cutting fluid discharge nozzle. Cutting forces are also measured and compared with the AE signals to examine the reliability of the AE signals. It is demonstrated that the AE signals provide reliable informations about the cutting processes and tool states. Moreover, edge chipping and fracture of tools can be successfully detected using both the AE signals and cutting forces.

5축 가공기는 가공중의 공구자세 변화를 요구하는 복잡한 산업형상의 가공, 혹은 경사 가공을 통한 표면조도 향상등의 목적으로 채용되는 첨예의 공작기계로서 이를 지원하는 CAM연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 그러나, 산업현장에서 흔히 5축 가공기로 일컬어지는 상당수의 5축 가공기는 기구축은 5축을 가지나, 동기제어 축수는 3측인 “선택적 3/5축 가공기”의 형태로서 진정한 의미의 5축가공기와는 근본적으로 다르다. 5축 동기제어를 지원하는 CAM연구는 부분적으로 연구 개발된 상태이나, 선택적 3/5축을 지원하는 CAM 이론은 연구된 바 없으며, 이에 따라 현장에서는 공작물의 셋업을 변경시키는 소위 자동 인덱싱 방식으로 활용하고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구팀에서는 선택적 3/5축 가공기에서 5축 가공을 실현할 수 있는 공구경로 산출 및 제어알고리즘을 개발하고 있으며, 본 논문에서는 (5축 가공 대비) 선택적 3/5축 가공문제의 이론적 특성과 경사가공을 수행하기 위한 알고리즘을 소개하고 시뮬레이션을 통하여 유효성을 보인다.

In order to regulate the cutting force at a desired level during peripheral end milling processes, a feedrate override Adaptive Control Constant system was developed. This paper presents an explicit pole-assignment PI-control law through spindle motor current monitoring and its application to cutting force regulation for feedrate optimization. An experimental set-up is constructed for the commercial CNC machining center without any major changes of the structure. A data transfer system is constructed with standard interface between an IBM compatible PC and a CNC of the machining center. Experimental results show the validity of the system.

King Sejong's Striking water-clock which brought in use on the first of July in 1434 was mainly composed of timekeeping and time announcing parts signalling twelve double-hours, and five night-watches and night-watch-divisions automatically by means of ball-operating jackworks. The clock was arranged with dual timekeeping system, the one for a full day(twelve double-hours) and the other for five night-watches achieving twelve double-hours and one-hundred interval horary systems. The vessels were arrayed in inflow-type water-clock, a large reservoir on the highest story, a constant-level tank for supplying water to the measuring vessel evenly in the middle, and the lowest tank to receive water from the above constant-level tank. An indicator-rod on the float was raised upwards depending on the water-level increase to show timing scales and also to release small bronze balls from the ball-rack mechanisms implanted on the measuring vessel to signal timing intervals.

The King Sejong's Striking water-clock was named for its distictive day and night time announcing system. Its time announcing system generates acoustic and visual signals for the twelve double hour, and combinations of two different acoustic signals for the five night watches, The mechanism of this signal generation system is triggered by a copper ball which is mechanically digitized time keeping signal, and is generated from the water clock. The time announcing system consisted four parts: 1) the mechanical amplifier which changes small copper to heavy steel ball, 2) day time announcing system, 3) night time announcing system, 4) sounding mechanism. The time announcing system of King Seong's Striking Clepsidra is remotely related to the Arabic clock system, however, it does have world-widely distictive mechanisms of its era, such as mechanical amplifier, self-weight rachet mechanism, and resetable mechanical computer etc.

This paper describes an automated computer-aided engineering (CAE) system for micromachines whose size range 10 to 10
$^3$ ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ . An automatic finite element mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry techniques, is incorporated into the system, together with one of commercial finite clement (FE) analysis codes, MARC, and one of commercial solid modelers, Designbase. The system allows a geometry model of concern to be a automatically converted to different FE models, depending on physical phenomena to be analyzed, i.e. electrostatic analysis, stress analysis, modal analysis and so on. The FE analysis models are then exported to the FE analysis code, and then analyses are performed. This system is successfully applied to an electrostatic micro actuator. -
In this work the surface damage mechanism of hard disk was investigated. Experiments were peformed to simulate the contact during start and stop. Evidence of significant surface damage appeared after 20,000 cycles. It was found that despite higher hardness, the slider showed more signs of damage than the disk. Optical microscopy showed that the surface was damaged by abrasive action as well as adhesion of wear debris.

The microfabricated test structures were used in order to evaluate the stress characteristics in films. The test structures were fabricated using surface micromachining technique, including HF vapor phase etching as an effective release method. The fabricated structures were micro strain gauge, cantilever-type vernier gauge and bridge for stress measurement, and cantilever for stress gradient measurement. The strain was measures by observing the deformation of the structures occurred after release etching and the amount of deformation can be detected by micro vernier gauge, which has gauge resolution of 0.2
${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ . The detection principles and the degree of precision for the measured strain were also discussed. The characteristics of residual stress in LPCVD polysilicon films were studied using these test structures. The stress gradient due to the stress variation through the film thickness was calculated by measuring the deflection at the cantilever free end. -
The key process in silicon surface micromachining is the selective etching of a sacrificial layer to release the silicon microstructure. The newly developed anhydrous HF/
$CH_3$ OH gas phase etching of TEOS (teraethylorthosilicate) sacrificial layers onto the polysilicon and the nitride substrates was employed to release the polysilicon microstructures. A residual product after TEOS etching onto the nitride substrate was observed on the surface, since a SiOxNy layer is formed on the TEOS/nitride interface. The polysilicon microstructures are stuck to the underlying substrate because SiOxNy layer does not vaporize. We found that the only sacrificial etching without any residual product and stiction is TEOS etching onto the polysilicon substrate. -
This paper presents a method to measure tile position and orientation of a prismatic polyhedral object (of unknown width, length, height, and number of vertices) using machine vision. The width, length, and origin of workplace where an object is lying are defined as Preliminary operation. The edges of an object are detected from captured image using least sum of square error. The information of an object is determined from the geometric relationships between edges. As an user interface, a versatile image processing program is developed in several modules, and renders a very useful 3D measurement at a limited constraints when adopted in automation of production process. The flexibility of camera position from the algorithm developrf can be used for automated pick and place operations and feeding workpiece u: ;ing assembly robot.

The monitoring system was composed of main controller, network card and monitoring sub controller for the unit machine. PC was used for the main controller and monitoring controller, which has the same hardware with the network card, was developed using Intel 80196 microprocessor.

A Potential Field Method is applied to the proposed algorithm for the planning of collision-free paths of redundant manipulators. The planning is carried out on the base of kinematic configuration. To make repulsive potentials, sources are distributed on the boundaries of obstacles. To escape from local minimum of the main potential and to attack other difficulties of the planning, various potentials are defined simultaneously, Inverse Kinematics Problems of the redundant manipulators are solved by unconstrained optimization method. Computer simulation result of the path planning is presented.

The contact roll is often used to regulate the winding tension as well as the entrained air in a wound roli by adjusting the contact force to the winding roll. But the contact force generated by other rolls, like assistant nip rolls, in a winding(or roll changing) process may act as disturbance to the control of the winding tension. In this paper, the mechanism of a roll change process is analyzed. And, the behavior of the contact and the assistant nip rolls are mathematically modeled. A nonlinear PID(NPID) controller is designed to control the winding tension and to reject the effect of disturbance generated by the assistant nip roll on the winding tension variation. Computer simulation study showed that the performance of the suggested NPID controller is improved compared with that of the PID controller in con trolling the winding tension and in rejecting the effect of the disturbance.

This paper presents a new approach to the design of self-tuning adaptive control system that is robust to the changing dynamic configuration as well as to the load variation factors using Digital signal processors for robot manipulators. TMS320C50 is used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide advanced performance for robot manipulator, In this paper, an adaptive control scheme is proposed in order to design the pole-placement self-tuning controller which can reject the offset due to any load disturbance without a detailed description of robot dynamics. Parameters of discrete-time difference model are estimated by the recursive least-square identification algorithm, and controller parameters we determined by the pole-placement method. Performance of self-tuning adaptive controller is illusrated by the simulation and experiment for a SCARA robot.

This paper presents a new approach to the design of neural control system using digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness. Robotic manipulators have become increasingly important in the field of flexible automation. High speed and high-precision trajectory tracking are indispensable capabilities for their versatile application. The need to meet demanding control requirement in increasingly complex dynamical control systems under significant uncertainties, leads toward design of intelligent manipulation robots. The TMS320C31 is used in implementing real time neural control to provide an enhanced motion control for robotic manipulators. In this control scheme, the networks introduced are neural nets with dynamic neurons, whose dynamics are distributed over all the network nodes. The nets are trained by the distributed dynamic back propagation algorithm. The proposed neural network control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Performance of the neural controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a SCARA robot.

와이어 프레임, 면, 솔리드를 하나의 통합된 자료구조에 표현할 수 있는 자료구조를 복합다양체 자료구조라 한다. 기존의 복합다양체 자료구조는 복합다양체에 필요한 방사순환 정보와 디스크 순환정보를 다양체 요소에서도 항상 보유하고 있도록 설계되어 있어 불필요한 정보를 가지고 있었다. 이러한 점을 개선하기 위하여 기본적으로 루프순환 정보를 보유하고 추가로 복합다양체 모서리는 방사순환 정보를, 그리고 복합다양체 꼭지점은 디스크 순환정보를 보유하도록 하는 새로운 자료구조를 제안하였다. 이 새로운 자료구조는 인접 위상 정보 추출에 필요한 3순환 정보를 모두 포함하면서, 자료저장량이 문제시되는 CAD 상세 설계 단계에서 자료량을 줄일 수 있는 장점이 있다.

A design system for mechanical components is being developed using an Object-Oriented Programming language Smalltalk to allow mechanical designers to use the experience of expert designers. The system is organized in such a manner that the expert knowledge stored in it could be easily retrieved by the junior designer. The experience and the knowledge of the expert are placed in the databases. Multiple design models, in this system, can be processed simultaneously, because the expert knowledge is broken down into elements which can be used by different design models. In this way the system proves more flexible and extendable. In this paper, the philosophy of the system and the databases involved in the system will be addressed.

Developed in this research is a surface modeling kernel for various CAD/CAM applications. Its internal surface representations are rational parametric polynomials, which are generalizations of nonrational Bezier, Ferguson, Coons and NURBS surface, and are very fast in evaluation. The kernel is designed under the OOP concepts and coded in C++ on PCs. The present implementation of the kernel supports surface construction methods, such as point data interpolation, skinning, sweeping and blending. It also has NURBS conversion routines and offers the IGES and ZES format for geometric information exchange. It includes some geometric processing routines, such as surface/surface intersection, curve/surface intersection, curve projection and so forth. We are continuing to work with the kernel and eventually develop a B-Rep based solid modeler.

In this paper, output precision characteristic of planar 3 and 6 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanisms are investigated. The 6 degree-of-freedom mechanism is formed by adding an additional small link along with an actuated joint in each of serial subchain of the 3 degree-of-freedom mechanism. First, kinematic analysis for two parallel mechanisms are performed, then their first-order kinematic characteristics are examined via isotropic index and minimum velocity transmission ratio of the mechanisms. It can be concluded that the planar 6 degrees-of-freedom parallel mechanism can be very effectively employed as a high-precision macro-micro manipulator from the analysis results when its link lengths are properly chosen.

The method of manipulation by striking a part and letting it slide until it comes to rest, has been very little studied. However, the manipulation method is not uncommon in our daily lives. We analyze the dynamic behavior of a rigid polygonal part being striked and sliding on a horizontal surface under the action of fiction. There are two parts in this problem; one is the impact problem, and the other is the sliding problem. We characterize the impact and sliding dynamics with friction for polygonal parts, and present the possibility of reverse calculation for motion planning of striking operations. In this paper, output compliance effects at RCC point by both redundant joint compliances and antagonistic torques generated by internal preloading between joints of a spherical 3 degree-of-freedom mechanism are investigated. For this purpose, kinematic analysis is briefly described. Then, output compliance models at RCC point, which is generated by redundant joint compliances and by internal preloading between joints are derived. Finally, ranges of output compliance modulation due to these redundant joint compliances and antagonistic torques are examined through simulation.

In many cases, the magnetic farce model is linearized at the origin in designing the controller of a magnetic bearing system. However. this linear assumption is violated by the unmodeled nonlinear effect such as sensor dislocation and backup bearing dislocation. Therefore, a direct probe into the nonlinear magnetic force model in an active magnetic bearing system is necessary. To analyze the nonlinear magnetic force model of a magnetic bearing system, phase plot analysis which is to plot the numerical solution of the nonlinear equation in several initial points in the interested region is applied. Phase plot analysis is used to observe a nonlinear dynamic system qualitatively (not quantitatively). With this method, we can get much useful information of the nonlinear system. Among this information, a bifurcation graph that represents stability and locations of fixed points is essential. From the bifurcation graph, a stability criterion of magnetic bearing system is derived.

The present development relates to an apparatus for loading or unloading a workpiece, and more particularly, to an apparatus for loading or unloading a workpiece from a press die or supplier An apparatus for loading or unloading a workpiece has been installed in a press in order to load or unload a workpiece from a press die. There has been known such a loading or unloading apparatus as the apparatus can feed a workpiece in not only the horizontal direction but also in the vortical direction. Press working system in automotive factories are now switching over to a transfer press work ing system. The current problem to be sieved immediately is to automate the existing manual press lines for the manpower saving and speedy production. “Automation system for press line”has just been developed to meet the above trend. The loader and unloader are development under the design concept for high performance, easy control and operational safety to meet the more extensive.

The purpose of this exclusive welding-machine process using the welding Torch-rotation form is to develop a mechanism which can solve the problem of twisted welding wires and cables. The technique was developed by revising the torch position and smooth controlling of both the formal and reverse rotation. Some of the advantages of using the Torch-rotation form over the Work-rotation technique are the practical uses of increased work space and link work with the automation system of the plant. Using this welding machine process, It is possible to design a specific tool in order to solve the implemental problem. And I produced a control plate which can manipulate the progress of the entire process at the work place. Even if another kind of axle casing's welding work is used this process can be utilized if the fixed tip and work is produced and changed. The development if this exclusive welding-machine could reduce the manpower of skilled welding labor and after considerable analysis, this machine was found to increase productivity and better quality product in comparison to the handmade product.

In this work, regular rotational gaits of the quadruped crawling robot required to change its moving direction without affecting be its orientation and its static stability margin are studied. The regular rotational gaits provide the quadruped crawling robot with omnidirectional characteristics. However, the ideal foothold region for each of legs of the quadruped crawling robot is assumed for simplicity. Nonetheless, it is expected that the results of this paper will provide the insight for both design of legs of the crawling robot with omnidirectional characteristics as well as its operation of the crawling robot system with specified stability margin.

This paper is concerned with effective operating method of pneumatic on-off valves for improving position control accuracy, valve life-time and position settling time using modified pulse width modulation with dead-zone. The pneumatic system using on-off valves studied in this paper has advantage of simple construction and low cost compared with a system with servo-valves. The performance of proposed control system is investigated experimentally for the position control of a pneumatic cylinder using on-off valves. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm for valve operation can be used to obtain fast and accurate position control and to prevent on-off valves from unnecessary switching.

중립면은 셸 (솔리드 모델) 유한 요소 생성, 로보트 이동 경로 계산, 특징 형상 판별 등에서 사용될 수 있다. 그러나 기존 중립면 계산 알고리즘들은 연립 방정식을 수렴성이 보장되지 않는 수치 해법으로 풀어야 했기 때문에 발전이 미비했다. 본 논문은 복셀-이등분 면의 교자성을 이용한 중립면 계산 알고리즘을 제시한다. 교차성은 보로노이 영역을 사용, 단순한 기하학적 요소간의 거리 비교로 판별한다. 이런 기하학적인 접근 방법은 기본적으로 수렴성 문제가 배제된다.

Reverse engineering enables a fast creation of CAD model from an existing part without any technical drawing or digital data. This method of data acquisition is necessary in several industrial applications when the modification of an existing product design has to be performed and verified afterwards. In this paper, the surface of an existing ship propeller was measured by a tactile measuring system and the acquired point data of the surface were used for modeling of a solid model in CAD system. By using LOM and casting processes, an aluminum propeller for functional test was manufactured and then its accuracy was measured by a laser scanner and compared with the origin릴 CAD data. As the results show, the use of LOM as a rapid prototyping process and casting as a secondary process delivers a functional prototype propeller which can be used for test purposes.

Today's product development requires simultaneous satisfaction of low cost, high quality and fast time to market. It is, however, difficult for product designers and engineers to achieve this goal due to too many requirements. This study shows integrated Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) approach can help to achieve such goal. CAE can not only support designers when decision needs to be made during concept design period but also provide evaluation of the designed parts and guidance to the best design of products during detail design period. Furthermore, integration with virtual prototyping concept can reduce number of actual prototyping and consequently reduce product development cost and time considerably. In order to demonstrate its possibility, example of washing machine development using CAE and its results are presented in this study.

In this paper, we introduce the design method using CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) which is profitable in the compatability and standardization of the developed product, and the reduction of construction time and price to develop and design a machine equipment. Particularly, we select the standard model to design or develop from the large machinery to the super precision one, extract the peculiar characters of the model by the close analysis of the physical and technical part, the experiment for the characteristics of objective dimensions by analogical mathematical analysis for previous results, and can induce the design model demanded by user investigating optimal data in the design previous We present the analogical algorithms and process method of design factors and restriction factors in the systematization design with computer. Then we analyze step functions for each systematization equipment and induce the process of technical data with actuator model.

The area of gear dynamics has recently been the focus of many studies. A new tooth profile modification was proposed by author for reducing vibration and noise of involute gears. A comparative dynamic analysis of the gear drive with the involute tooth and the modified tooth profile(using cubic splines) is performed to the unuformal transmission error reduces the gear vibration and noise due to less dynamic tooth load variation during the meshing cycle. This work also include a gear design process by the meaning of a practical approach, such as Win95 based simulation program with all using basic geardesign variables. Especially this program enables gear designers to dynamic analysis based on G.U.I.

Recently many studies have been carried out to predict the characteristics of vehicle noise and to reduce the noise for enhancing the ride quality. In this study, the structural-acoustic coupling theory and the acoustic finite element theory were reviewed, and the structural acoustic coupling analysis was applied to an automobile. Because of nonuniformed lateral shape of a compartment cavity, the acoustic modes were calculated with 3-D finite element modeling. The structural modes were measured with the modal testing. Using the structural-acoustic cooling analysis, the modes which strongly coupled to the interior noise were identified and the boundary regions which could reduce noise level efficiently by structural modification were predicted.

Most studies of rotary machinery design have been performed to establsih a new mechanism or a dramatic combination of machine elements for the power transmission. Although the rotary machine is worked very efficiently, that still has a major work to better performance which is the optimization of the selected mechanism for the mechanical efficiency, low vibration and noise, or customer interest. This work presents a practical approach used for washer's efficiency and machinery vibration and noise reduction along with a systematic procedure. Also for the confirming the study, a computer simulation program and a real working mock-up are developed and used to show very good agreement with the analytical result.

승용차나 소형승합차에는 현가장치의 스프링으로 코일스프링을 많이 사용하고 있으며 최근 들어 승차감의 상을 위해 변위의 증가와 함께 스프링 정수가 증가하는 경화 특성 스프링(hardening type spring)을 많이 채택하고 있는데, 이 특성을 나타낼 수 있는 방법 중 하나가 등반경-테이퍼 소재의 코일스프링이다. 이 논문에서는 주어진 차량조건으로부터 이상적인 스프링 특성곡선을 계산하고 이 곡선을 분할하여 직선의 연결로 근사시켜 분할한 수만큼의 직선적 특성의 스프링으로 직렬 연결되어 있다고 가정하여 이 곡선에 근접된 특성을 가지는 등반경-테이퍼 소재 코일 스프링의 설계방법을 제시하고자 한다.

The use of ceramics for extrusion dies is limited since the modification of die design is difficult. In order to successfully apply the ceramic dies to extrusion dies, a better understanding of the process should be preceded. This study focuses on understanding the characteristics of the process. In the present study, a hot extrusion of tube with a mandrel is analyzed by ALE finite element method. In order to obtain the stress state of ceraminc dies, the elastic analysis of dies is also carried out.

In this study, based on the assumption that the displacements of suspension systems under the external forces are very small, a linear form of elastokinametic equations in terms of infinitesimal displacements and joint reaction forces are derived. The equations can be applied to any form of suspensions once the type of kinematic joints and bushings are identified. The validity of the method is proved through the comparison of the results from the more complex solution offered by ADAMS

Performance and efficiency of hybrid (hydraulic-mechanical) pick-up device of deep sea manganese nodules collector are very sensitive to altitude and altitude of pick-up head relative to undulating seafloor. For this reason, motion control of pick-up head relative to the changing deep sea topography and other disturbances is of particular importance in design of pick-up device. The concept of design axiom is applied to a pick-up device of hybrid type. Kinematic analysis conducted in absolute Cartesian coordinates gives position, velocity, and acceleration of the hydraulic cylinders which enable the pick-up head to keep the preset optimal distance from seafloor. Inverse dynamic analysis provides the driving forces of hydraulic cylinders and the reaction forces at each joint. Design sensitivity analysis is performed in order to investigate the effects of possible design variables on the change of the maximum strokes of hydraulic cylinders. The direct differentiation method is used to obtain the design sensitivity coefficients.

Under two level block loading, the carbornitrizing specimen can be expected to show different behavior from other uniform material because the properties of surface layer and inner material are different from each other. In this research, the modified Marco-Starkey cumulative theory, which considers load interaction effect, can predict the life of SCM415 carbornitrizing and original notched and smooth specimen, In the low-high test of carbornitrizing specimen which has long life, however, we may additionally consider the increase of life by means of the stress hardening of inner original material.

FRMLs consist of thin sheets of high strength metal, which are laminated using a structural adhesive and high strength fibers. ARALL(Aramid-fiber Reinforced Aluminum alloy Laminates) of FRMLs is a new class of hybrid material. $L^{ⓡ}$ -2 LAMINATE comparing with 2024-T3 aluminum alloy. The extrinsic toughening mechanisms in HERALL and ARALL were examined, the crack bridging behavior of fibers was analyzed by new algorithm, which measures crack bridging stress, and the crack bridging zone length was measured. -
In this study, the counting method for multi-axial and multi-point load states was proposed. Using this counting method, the load spectrum is generated from the service load history which is measured for boom structure of excavator. Loading state for loading points of boom structure is described as a multi-dimensional state space. From this load spectrum, the stress spectrum was generated by FEM analysis using the superposition of the unit load. The cumulated damage at the severe damage point of In nm structure by the failure example is calculated by Palmgren-Miner's rule. As a result of this study, the fatigue life estimation using the multi-axial and multi-point load counting method is useful.

Single overload fatigue tests with overload sizes ranging from 50% and 100% have been performed to investing ate the fatigue crack growth retardation behavior. A modified and experimental method of Willenborg's model for prediction of crack growth retardation behavior has been developed, based on evaluations of equivalent plastic zone size (EPZS) changing its size along the overload plastic zone boundary. The minimum crack growth rates of each overload size are linearly decreased with overload size increasing, but fatigue lives extended by single overload are increasing much more unlike the crack growth rates. Comparisons of crack growth behavior predicted by EPZS model and Willenborg model have shown that the EPZS model accounts for overload effects better than Willenborg model. These effects include delayed retardation, large retardation region, minimum crack growth rate, and the increase rate of crack growth rate in the region crack growth rate recovered.

In this paper, the behavior of plastic zone in the notch tip was studied under Loye's Micro Vickers Hardness Measurement Method. The direction forming maximum plastic zone was estimated by finite element analysis. In the experiments, cold rolling sheet SGCD3, SK5 and hot rolling sheet SS41, S4SC was used to study the influence of carbon contents on plastic zone. The standard hardness test specimen and the notch hardness test specimen was made and loaded cyclically. The specimen was aged to stabilize the hardness. After aging treatment, the notch specimen was made and simple tension load of 50% yield strength was applied. The hardness test at the notch tip until the hardness data of standard hardness specimen was checked was performed.

Despite the increasing demand for improved product design, a limited number of works have been reported in the field of sheet metal forming. In the present study, introducing the Taguchi method, an optimal and robust combination of parameters is found and a data base management system and nomograms are utilized for knowledge acquisition. The developed system is applied to a deep drawing process, Through the present study, it is shown that the developed system is useful for the design and the formability estimation of sheet metal forming processes.

In this paper. we will discuss in making large size cylindrical shells with multithickness wall sections such as straight, stepped, tapered sides. These shells are constructed of type 6061 O temper aluminum starting with a blanking size of 877 mm plate. Its diameter to length ratio of 1 to 2.78 and a 36.7% wall reduction is achieved by our continuous deep drawing process. This process required no in-process annealing. But after cold working, these shells is performed heat treatment to T6 condition. These shells are used for the making of seamless LPG pressure vessels after the spinning process. This process is composed of deep drawing, reverse redrawing, drawing-ironing and several ironing processes. In the verification of forming process design, we used DEFORM code.

In this paper, the mechanisms of contact and impact force generation are analyzed and tested with a simple test equipment. It was carried out for the pre-design of impact force reconstruction apparatus.

An analysis method for the reliability of ceramic structures subjected to thermal shocks is presented, Flaws with the size of given probability distribution function are assumed to be distributed at random with a certain density per unit volume in the structures. Criterions for crack instability are derived for brittle solids under general thermal stresses. A probabilistic failure model is presented to study the probability of crack instability for blittle solids containing cracks with uncertain crack size. The reliabilities of brittle structures are evaluated based on the weakest-link hypothesis, which states that a structure fails when the cracks in any differential volume become unstable. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the application of the proposed method.

Hardened layer and compressive residual stress created by carburized treatment effect on bending fatigue strength of gear massively. Also, shot peening treatment improves the strength of carburized gear as it does the hardness and residual stress of surface layer. In these days shot peening techniques are welcomed as one of physical improvement ways around the surface of materials. It is used widely because qualitative analysis of shot peening has become possible and surface treatment can be done with very little costs compared to other surface improvement methods. Therefore this study investigates the effect of shot peening in surface shape and bending fatigue strength after doing many kinds of shot peening treatments, then doing fatigue test and also explained characteristics of shot peening gear.

The demands of size and quality of large steel shaft forgings for ship building, power plant, steel plant, etc. are rapidly increasing, and some of these productions are manufactured from ingot weighing more than 300 tons. For use as rotating components. shafts require toughness, strength and homogeneity, and therefore are produced through a variety of heat treatments. According to the increase of ingot size, micro- and macrosegregation and also mass effect of the product increase. Thus, special care should be paid to the heat treatment of such large shaft forgings. In this paper, the heat treatment of large shaft forgings such as rotor and back-up roll is calculated using the commercial finite element code SYSWELD. Calculated distributions of temperature and phase are compared with experimental data. The continuous cooling transformation diagram, thermal and mechanical properites of each phase are used. The phase proportion, hardness and residual stress during water quenching are discussed.

A flexible pointing system mounted on top of a vehicle suffers from performance degradation due to bending vibrations as the vehicle runs on a bump course. In order to improve the pointing performance, the pointing structure's vibrations should be suppressed. In this paper, a nonlinear controller is designed to control the tip position of the pointing system while actively suppressing the vibrations. To cope with high order dynamics and nonlinearities of the plant and hydraulic actuating system, a two-stage sliding mode controller is devised. The desired actuating pressure is obtained in the first stage and then the in put current In the hydraulic servo system is computed to generate the pressure. The simulation results show the effectiveness of this scheme and improvements in pointing accuracy.

A load sensing hydraulic system is widely used to military and commercial mobile applications fur its high running efficiency. Although concept and general control schemes are well known, the poor maneuverability of simultaneous multioperation of actuators still remains to be solved. In this paper, a new control algorithm is proposed to prevent the saturation of the system in such operating conditions, in which the total required flowrate of actuators may exceed the pump supply flowrate. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified through experiments.

The development of a high power BLDC servo system for a control of the large scale mechanical system is presented. Using DSP TMS320C30, a control unit which is suitable for motor drive system, is developed. Also, based on the developed control unit, BLDC drive system for the speed control is constructed. The algorithms of the vector control, current control, and speed control is implemented using TMS320C30 Software Development Tool. The developed high power BLDC motor drive system is applied to the large scale mechanical system and its feasibility is verified through the experimental results.

This report suggests a new non-linear friction compensation for digital control systems. This control adopts a hysteric nonlinear clement which can introduce the phase lead of the control system to compensate the phase delay comes from the inherent time delay of a digital control. The Lyapunov direct method is used to prove the asymtotic stability of the suggested control, and the stability and the effectiveness are verified analytically and experimentally on a single axis servo driving system.

We propose an approach to integrating fuzzy logic control with RBF(Radial Basis Function) networks and show how the integrated network can be applied to multivariable self-organizing and self-learning fuzzy controller. Using the hybrid learning algorithm. To investigate its usefulness and performance, this controller is applied to a time-delayed process system. Simulation results show good control performance and fast convergency in hybrid loaming method.

In this study, underdeveloping heavy-load driving servo control system, which are composed of controller, electro-hydraulic servo-valve, hydraulic motor, reduction gear box, turret slew bearing and turret structure, are investigated to simplify the control system. To estimate the effect of each component, model ins and simulation of linear and nonlinear system are carried out. In the first stage, to prove the retiability of performance estimation pro-gram, simulation results are compared with experimental results. In the second stage, the effect of each component of control system is evaluated and then a simplified control system is suggested.

This paper covers the technology developmental stage work for the automatic ammunition loading system mainly focusing on the controller design of the electro-hydranlic type direct drive multi-axis manipulator. Mathematical model of the plant derived and PIDM servo-controller structured. Comparative study between the analytical and experimental work has been carried out to help understand the response property of the direct dine multi-axis robot. In the direct drive robot, non-negligible amount of disturbance and load Induced dynamics variation are transmitted to the drive axis and nonlinearity is highly observed. Thereupon a robust controller Implementing time-delay control law is proposed, and computer simulation confirms the possibility for the time-delay control application against the unpredictable disturbance and load-Induced dynamics variation.

This paper presents an automatic calibration technique for piezoelectic low pressure transducer, which is useful to measure a pressure within 500 psi. This system with automatic calibration function and error correction algorithm generates standard dynamic pressure for the calibration of sensor. With the compensation for the offset voltage and the pressure error, the accuracy and the usefulness of the proposed scheme is validated.

This paper presents results of dynamic analysis of the missile initial motion arising from the missile detent force. Using ADAMS (Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical System) software, a non-linear 46-DOF (Degree of Freedom) model is developed for the launcher system including missile and launch tube contact problem. From the dynamic analysis, it is found that initial angular velocity of the missile increases when the missile detent force increases (more than 18 g) and also rocket exhaust plume is taken into account. To achieve the missile launching s ability, it needs to reduce the missile initial detent force and exhaust plume area of the launcher. Results of the dynamic analysis on the system natural frequency agree well with those obtained from experimental modal tests. The overall results suggest that the proposed method is a useful tool for prediction of initial missile stability as well as d :sign of the missile launcher system.

In this paper, the new technology and R&D status is presented, which accelerates the projectile using the electrical energy to overcome the limit of the conventional gun. The ETC (electro_thermal_chemical) gun, one kind of electric guns, seems to be the highly probable candidate as the next generation gun. The high density power supply and the forming and control of the current pulse are required to develop the ETC gun. And, the interior ballistics considered the mechanism of ETC gun must to be studied.

Stabilization performance of a sight stabilization system can be improved by proper selection of control algorithm and mechanism. In that aspect, in this paper, effects of an inertia balancer are studied. Parameters of the inertia balancer were obtained from the governing equation by assuming there is no external force and friction. Simulation and experimental results show that the inertia balancer contributes significantly to the stabilization of the line of sight(LOS). In particular, it was found that the inertia balancer is more effective as frequency of the disturbance increases.

In Pistol, the peak recoil force affects the reliability of the frame and the accuracy of target shooting. To attenuate the peak recoil force of pistol, we develop measuring test bed, which consists of force sensors, linear sensor and a high speed video camera, execute tests with several Pistol models and compare the results measured.

In the firing operation, muzzle jumping phenomenon was investigated, and a method of reducing muzzle jump was suggested. The muzzle jumping force was determined from the torque acting on the rifle due to a recoil force. For the purpose of reducing a muzzle jump, the gas flowing through the M16A1 flash suppressor was considered. A flash suppressor, improved in reducing a muzzle imp, was modeled and tested. The experiment shows that muzzle jump has quantitative relation to shape of a flash suppressor, and can be reduced by the improved modeling of a flash suppressor.

This paper presents durability characteristics of electrorheological(ER) fluids which undergo a reversible phase change depending upon the imposition of electric fields. The field-dependent Bingham properties are subjected to be altered from long time use of the ER fluid. The level of the changed properties depends upon employed device and test conditions. A piston-rod system which has same mechanism as ER dampers is adopted in this study and tested by increasing operation cycle up to 1 million. Bingham properties of initial and us ER fluids are tested and compared. In addition, these ER fluids are applied to ER damper in order to evaluate damping force performance.

The purpose of this study is to bring out the optimal design factors which effect on dynamic characteristics in the design of proportional flow control valve with fast response characteristics, and to verify the validity of the design factors In this study, force feedback type flow control valve with nozzle-flapper is studied. And, the influences which fixed orifice, nozzle diameter, and maximum displacement between nozzle and flapper effect on dynamic characteristics are analyzed. We have done simulations using the optimal design factors and simulink(Matlab) as a simulation tool, and verified the validity of our simulations by means of comparison our simulation results with an experimental results of another similar valve.

The assessments of weld defects by fracture mechanics are performed for design of welded Joints. In general, butt, T-type, and L-type welded joint are useful for welding structure. When linear weld defects are in welded joint, stress intensity factors for each joints are calculated by finite element method. Analysis results are shown for the fracture modes and characteristics of joint types. And they are founded for the weaken order of welded joints being T-type, butt, L-type.

On the prediction of driving performance, an acceleration performance is normally simulated in stall starting condition which is the engine status of full-throttle and high-speed. The lack of transient engine torque data makes the difficulty of predicting an acceleration performance on engine-idle start condition. A experimental equation of transient engine torque is derived from vehicle performance test data. It is applied to simulation the accleration performance prediction on idle starting condition.

Sensitivity analysis of the cylindrical zigzag cams under acceleration and centrifugal forces is performed. A Lagrangian method is used to determine the mechanism constant of zigzag track, And the equation of motion for cylindrical zigzag cam under rectangular pulse is derived by the governing equations of a single spring mass system. The ratio of the drive force tn resisting force is derived by angular acceleration, centrifugal force and setback force on the operation of the munition. The theoretical sensitivity curves for 3 models are analyzed. And experiments for 3 models are conducted to check safe and functional zone. Zigzag cam types can be satisfied all major design requirements for switch system of munition.

This paper presents a recoil and counter recoil(R&CR) motion measurement method using linear variable differential transformers(LVDT). The output of a LVDT is obtained from the differential voltage of the 2nd transformers. As a sensor core is attached at the motion body, the output is directly proportional to the core motion. Displacement, velocity and acceleration are measure from the core length. With a comparison between the measurement result and the known value which is obtained by the precision steel tape, the accuracy and the usefulness of the proposed scheme is validated.

기계적 구동장치와 연계된 메카트로닉스 시스템에 대한 개발 시험은 비용, 공간 및 시간 등의 측면에서 제약을 받는다. 이러한 제약은 에뮬레이터를 이용한 개발 과정을 통해서 개선의 효과를 얻을 수 있다. 본 연구에서 설계 제작된 에뮬레이터는 전자 제어식 변속기에 적용된 장치로서 기계적 메카니즘 없이 전자 제어 메카니즘을 완전하게 에뮬레이션 할 수 있는 가능성을 보여준 것이다. 이러한 에뮬레이터를 이용하여 전자 제어장치의 개발 기간을 단축시키고 문제점을 빠르게 찾아낼 수 있다. 에뮬레이터의 개발은 수학적 모델링에 의해서, 장치에 대한 검증은 실차 시험을 통해 얻을 결과와 비교하여 수행된다.

Bore evacuator which have circular structure of cylindrical form is located at tube, and its function is to evacuate toxic gases generated during firing intervals. Between bore evacuator and bore interior, gas flow field is developed through the nozzles, and the charging and discharging process is formed. By these flow cycle(charging and discharging) the evacuation effect can be generated. This report contains an analyses and results consideration about bore evacuator flowfield.

This paper represents how a muzzle brake affects the dynamic characteristics of the recoil system. A muzzle brake is a device attached to the muzzle for the express purpose of diverting the propellant gas stream from its original path, thereby creating a foreward thrust on the recoiling gun which is in opposition to its rearward motion. In order to obtain the full advantage of a muzzle brake, it is necessary that the recoil system of a gun be designed for the purpose.

The Substitution development of 7075-T6 Al alloy to 7050-T74 Al alloy in small arms to improve anti-stress corrosion cracking was processed along with mass productivity consideration. To meet 7050 Al alloy material characteristics Indirect extrusion type was adopted and local heating above recrystalization temperature in forging process had to be avoided. The T74 aging treatment was 12
$0^{\circ}C$ -6hrs and 175$^{\circ}C$ -12hrs and was appropriate for both machanical and anti-cohesion properties. In accessment of field application test 7050Al alloy made parts of small arms showed equivalent or better performance than 7075 Al alloy.
