With an increase in the size and power rate of ship, the stern tube bearing has become subject to severer operation conditions. Particularly it is expected to be exposed to extremely so severe lubrication conditions during low rotational operation that there is strong demand for clarifying the oil film characteristics of the stern tube bearing at the design stage with accuracy. So in this study, we conducted an analysis of the stern tube bearing characteristics taking arbitrary three-dimensional deflection of the shaft into consideration.

A study on the combustion and exhaust emissions characteristics by using Emulsion Fuel in Diesel Engine is performed experimentally. In this paper, the experiments are performed at engine speed 1800rpm, emulsion fuel ratio is 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and main measured items are specific fuel consumption, NOx and Soot emissions etc. The obtained conclusions are as follows. 1) Specific fuel consumption increase maximum 19.8% at low load, but is not effected at full load. 2) NOx emissions decrease 30% in case of emulsion fuel ratio 25% at full load. 3) Soot emission decrease 58.9% in case of emulsion fuel ratio 25% at full load.

BMS & Governor System은 선박용 추진 기관으로 사용되는 저속 디젤 엔진의 원격 운전 및 제어를 담당하는 시스템으로 선박 추진과 엔진 제어에 필수적인 중요 구성 요소이며, 조선 기자재관련 고부가가치 산업의 한 부분이다. 그러나 조선관련 산업에 있어서 세계 최강국의 위상에 걸맞지 않게 국내에는 BMS & Governor System의 독자 모델이 없는 실정이고, 유럽이나 일본의 제품으로 전량 수입에 의존하고 있는 상황이다. 이에 선박 추진용 저속 디젤 엔진을 위한 제어 시스템의 관련 기술을 연구하여, SEA-CAPS를 개발하였다. 본 연구에서는 BMS & Governor System에 대한 개요와 SEA-CAPS의 개발 내용, 그리고 환경 및 성능 시험에 관한 내용을 언급하고자 한다.

Multi-dimensional combustion analysis and experiment has been carried out to investigate the effects of the injector nozzle hole diameter and number on the NOx formation and fuel consumption in HYUNDAI HiMSEN engine. The behavior of spray and combustion phenomena in diesel engine was examined by FIRE code. Wave breakup and Zeldovich models were adopted to describe the atomization characteristics and NOx formation. Wallfilm model suggested by Mundo, et al. and auto-ignition model suggested by Theobald and Cheng were adopted to investigate the spray-wall interaction characteristics and ignition delay. The information of spray angle and spray tip penetration length was extracted from fuel spray visualization experiment and the fuel injection rate profile was extracted from fuel injection system experiment as an input and verification data for the combustion analysis. Next, the nine different nozzle configurations were simulated to evaluate the effect of injector hole diameter and number on the NOx formation and fuel consumption.

In this study, the characteristics of NOx reduction by using charge air moisturizer system were evaluated by engine performance simulation in medium speed diesel engines. The results of performance simulation were verified by experimental results of single cylinder medium speed diesel engine equipped with charge air moisturizer system. Performance simulation was carried out to evaluate charge air moisturizer system of turbocharged diesel engine, HYUNDAI HiMSEN 9H25/33 engine. Those results show 50% NOx reduction at dew point
$80^{\circ}C$ and charge air pressure 4bar. -
A study on the wear characteristics of the white metal(Sn-base alloy) bearing as a function of particle contamination level was conducted in order to establish control criteria of the lubricant in the 2-stroke marine diesel engine. Particle contamination level of the lubricants ranged from NAS 10 to 12 for the experiments. Bar-on-plate type wear test was performed using reciprocating wear tester. Based on this study it was found that there was no noticeable difference in weight loss of the white metal for NAS10 and NAS11(particle contamination level). Surface roughness of the white metal bearing after the wear test of 8hrs for the highly contaminated lubricant(NAS12 level) was up to
$6{\mu}m$ in Rmax whilst that of the less contaminated lubricants(NAS10 & 11) was less than$1.5{\mu}m$ in Rmax. -
This paper investigated the mechanical and electrochemical properties of Al alloys in a slow strain rate test under various potential conditions. In general, Al and Al alloys do not corrode on formation of a film that has resistance to corrosion in neutral solutions. In seawater, however,
$Cl^-$ ions lead to the formation and destruction of a passive film. In a potentiostatic experiment, the current density after 1200 sec in the potential range of$-0.68{\sim}-1.5 V$ was low. Comparison of the maximum tensile strength, elongation, and time to fracture indicated that the optimum protection potential range was from -1.5 to -0.7 V(SSCE). -
This study suggested the occurrence source of weld-defects and its solution methods in a welding of Electrolyte injection hole by pulsed Nd:YAG laser. In experiment, the ramp down was used in order that solidification crack was removed. Furthermore, shrinkage stress and heat input were reduced by changing of weld trajectory and defocused distance. As a results of a experiment, a sound weld bead shape and crack-free weld bead can be obtained.

A three-dimensional numerical calculation has been performed to investigate mixed convective vortex flow in rectangular channels(width/height=4) with the upper part cooled and the lower part heated uniformly. In this study, the Prandtl number was 909, the Reynolds number was varied from 0 to
$9.6{\times}10^{-2}$ and the Rayleigh number from$10^3$ to$5{\times}10^4$ . The governing equations were discretized using the finite volume method. From a parametric study, velocity and temperature distributions were obtained and discussed. It is found that vortex flow of mixed convection in rectangular channels can be classified into three flow patterns which depend on Reynolds and Rayleigh numbers, and the regular vortex structure disappears around Rayleigh number$5{\times}10^4$ . -
It is known that an oscillating airfoil can produce a driving force through the generation of a reversed
$K\acute{a}rm\acute{a}n$ vortex street, and this can be expected to be a new highly effective propulsion system. We have been examined various conditions such as frequency number, amplitude in NACA 0010. As Strouhal number is greater than 0.08, wake profile with velocity deficit can be transformed into the wake with velocity excess. We also presented the experimental results on the unsteady vortices structure of the heaving airfoil at various parameters. -
The internal state of an automotive engine is very severe. A piston exposes burnt gas of over
$2000^{\circ}$ nd is shocked by high pressure at the time of explosion. Furthermore strong friction is caused by high speed motion. A study on the cooling of the piston requires because the cooling and lubrication of the piston has an effect on the life and efficiency of engine directly. The previous system of oil jet cooled only the bottom of the piston. In order to improve the cooling efficiency, the oil gallery is made inside the piston, and oil flows into the oil gallery. The flow rate of oil at the entrance of oil gallery is important because of the cooling efficiency. The purpose of this study is the investigation of fluid flow characteristics of oil jet and flow rate into the oil gallery. -
An ejector driven by a liquid is a fluid transfer equipment to be used under a poor suction condition, which means that there exists a possibility to occur a cavitation. It is a highly reliable device because it has no movable part in it, that is only a passive equipment. The ejector is an inevitably necessary one to overcome a poor pumping condition and to mix uniformly two fluids, however it has a low efficiency since it requires a pump for its operation. This study is for the development of a new-type liquid ejector with the application of a nozzle shape alteration, which maximize the suction performance of it. which provides the increased competition with the domestic industries. Also, the increased performance opens a new manufacturing method to use a commercial pipes for the production of an ejector, which is based on a trivial loss of a performance. However, this minor loss can be sufficiently compensated by the increased performance of a new-type ejector. Therefore, the developed ejector by this study can considerably reduce the manufacturing time and cost while its performance is largely increased.

Although the law of classical fourier heat conduction predicts the heat conduction phenomena occurred in most engineering fields with a good accuracy, it is also well-known that the conventional fourier law of a heat conduction has an application limit when the heating and cooling are periodic for a short duration or when the heat conduction is analyzed in the extremely low temperature region. This application limit of classical fourier law results from the fact that it assumed the infinite speed of a heat wave. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of whether the molecular dynamics could be used to calculate the speed of a heat wave through a solid. The calculated sound velocity showed a good agrement with the theoretical prediction qualitatively. From the calculated results, we confirmed that the same methodology can be applied the evaluation of the speed of a heat wave.

Photovoltaic Power Generation system occupies an important position as an alternative energy source, converting directly sunlight into electricity,using a photovoltaic cell. The Purpose of this research is to present and confirm the effectiveness of concentration and tracking of sun in photovoltaic power generation. Comparative experiments were carried outwith two rating 75 watt solar modules in
$25^{\circ}$ under condition of various times concentration, tracking and plain normal measuring generated voltages, currents and temperatures of back sheet of modules by internet monitoring system to find out which is best in economic sense. The experiments show that output power of concentration and tracking photovoltaic power generation is over 180% more then that of plain normal system. -
The experimental apparatus has been set-up as a conventional vapor compression type heat pump system. The test section is a horizontal double pipe heat exchanger. A tube diameter of 12.70 mm, 9.52 mm, 6.35 mm with 1.78 mm,1.52 mm,1.4 mm wall thickness each is used for this investigation. The local evaporating heat transfer coefficients of hydrocarbon refrigerants were superior to that of R-22. and the maximum increasing rate of heat transfer coefficient was found in R-1270. The average evaporating heat transfer coefficient increased with the increase of the mass velocity and it showed the higher values in hydrocarbon refrigerants than R-22. The highest evaporating heat transfer coefficient of all refrigerants was shown in a tube diameter of 6.35 mm with same mass flux.

The effect of break down of centrifugal pump due to entrained air has not been clarified yet. Thus, air-water two-phase flow experimental apparatus was installed to clarify the effect of break down. The performance results of a single-phase flow satisfied reappearance. Also, the heads coincided well impeller types.

In this paper, a passive telemetry sensor system using Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF) is proposed. Specially, to show the effective tracking performance of the UKF, we compared with the tracking performance of Recursive Least Square Estimation (RLSE) using linearization.

This paper describes how an Artificial Neural Network(ANN) can be employed to improve a speed estimation in a vector controlled induction motor drive. The system uses the ANN to estimate changes in the motor resistance, which enable the sensorless speed control method to work more accurately. Flux Observer is used for speed estimation in this system. Obviously the accuracy of the speed control of motor is dependent upon how well the parameters of the induction machine are known. These parameters vary with the operating conditions of the motor; both stator resistance(Rs) and rotor resistance(Rr) change with temperature, while the stator leakage inductance varies with load. This paper proposes a parameter compensation technique using artificial neural network for accurate speed estimation of induction motor and simulation results confirm the validity of the proposed scheme.

This paper presents a scheme for state observer-based stabilization control of inverted pendulum systems. The feedback gain matrices of both the state feedback controller and the state observer are obtained by a real-coded genetic algorithm(RCGA) such that the given performances indices are minimized.

Optical characteristics of excitonic blue and green emission of Te-doped ZnSSe:Te epitaxial layers, grown by molecular beam epitaxy, were investigated by photoluminescence (PL) measurements. The Te-doped ternary specimen shows strong blue or green emission (at 300K) which is assigned to
$Te_1$ or$Te_n$ $(n{\geq}2)$ cluster cluster bound exciton, respectively. Bright green and blue light emitting diodes (LEDs) have been developed using ZnSSe:Te system as an active layer. The green LEDs exhibit a fairly long device lifetime (>2000 h) when operated at 3$A/cm^2$ under CW condition at room temperature. -
This paper describes that send some signal from encoder attached to crankshaft of marine-engine to measuring instrument using power line modem(PLM) and display cylinder pressure, rpm and etc. on LCD. Conventional method that sends signal along the long signal line has some inconvenience from too long signal line length caused by huge volume of ship's engine. Power line modem can have short signal line from outlets to measuring instrument. Because it use exist power line for send signals, so it have low installation cost and could have good merits in job sites. Through this experiment, pressure in cylinder, engine rpm and etc. signals through PLM are well recognized at measuring instrument.

Recently the telematics system is used widely. Users want to high quality communications. Since the primary advantage of using an array is to enhance a desired signal and reject jamming interferences, array signal processing is essential to satisfy unmet demand of user. In general, beamforming is a spatial filtering operation performed on the data received by an array of sensors. So we propose the beamformer design that use FPGA for real time processing. And we use zero-padding interpolation for high resolution data.

OFDM communication system is effective for the high data rate transmission in the frequency selective fading channel. Since OFDM has high PAPR, OFDM signal may be distorted by the nonlinear HPA. In this paper, we propose an combined SLM and PTS method for reducing the PAPR in OFDM communication system. Proposed method increased some system complex in comparison with exiting method..

This thesis is concerned with basic research for development of EM wave absorbers in sheet type for mobile phones. By controlling the sendust ratio, the
$Al(OH)_3$ coating, the thickness, the kind of binders, EM wave absorbers were prepared and examined. Centeral frequency shifts toward lower with increasing thickness of the absorber, and absorption ability controlled to adjust Sendust amount. The absorption band of the EM wave absorber coated with$Al(OH)_3$ becomes larger than that of non-coated one. Sendust composite microwave absorbers mixed with CPE were prepared at$70^{\circ}C$ in temperature. The fabricated EM wave absorbers show a reflection coefficient 5.56 dB at 1.8 GHz in thickness of 0.85 mm. -
Ship system is very complicated. Machine in ship system are in close connection with each other, so one is affected by others. Thus, person who want to be a marine engineer have to study not only each machine but also their relationship. For this, intelligent diagnosis system for advanced education is necessity. In this paper, AMS and failure diagnosis system is developed by using LabVIEW, G programming language.

Shipping company and operators have to manage well to keep shipping schedules without problems in main engine. Specially operators have to operate main engine within the limit of operation point, and adjust related parameters to be operated safely and continuously. Also operators have ability to analyze fouling condition of hull through comparing data gotten from P-V curve and performance results of new building ships in trial with service ships. In this study, not only compared main engine performance results in shop trial and sea trial, but also investigated performance trend in accordance with the time elapsed for the service ship's diesel engine. They were confirmed as follows. First, shop trial load is higher than sea trial load but ship's speed is satisfied with owner's contract speed. Second as time goes by, load of service ship increases steadily and other parameters related with main engine shows variable change depend on main engine load increasing.

Recently illegal fishing is being committed as a result of changes in the economic and social framework of Korea, and its mainly due to a reduction of marine living resources, lack of a law-abiding spirit and alienation between related laws and reality. This paper suggests improved methods to fight illegal fishing by revising or enacting fisheries-related laws in an attempt to continuously develop our nation's fisheries industry, by establishing fishing control and fundamentally detering illegal fishing.

The combustion characteristics of the D.I. diesel engine are largely dependent on the air-fuel ratio and the gas exchange process. The main factors are the shape of combustion chamber, fuel injection system, air flow inside the cylinder, intake air mass flow rate and so forth. Because these factors affect the combustion in a mutual and combined manner, it is very important to clearly understand the correlation of these factors in order to provide the combustion improvement plans. In this paper, we studied the performance and the gas exchange process of marine four-stroke engine using the engine cycle simulation. Also, we predicted briefly turbocharger engine matching.

A contract for the shipbuilding is usually a complicated and involves statement of rights, obligations and responsibilities which each party agrees vis-a vis the other. The ultimate purpose of the contract is the sale and transfer of the finished ship by the builder to the buyer. Contracts for the construction and sale of ships are categorized as contracts for the sale of goods under English, United States, Germany and some countries law. On the other hand, The shipbuilding contract may be classified, not as a contract of sale but as a contract for work and materials under Korea, Japan and some countries law. Especially, most of countries are now well settled with regard to liability of a manufacturer in tort for physical injury and on the other for pure economic loss to remote owners of chattels. Where there is either a breach of contractual warranty or an implied warranty, there may be admiralty jurisdiction, depending once again on the situs of the event and its relationship to traditional maritime activity. Contract principles will be applied to the first type of warranty and tort principles will be applied to the second. First of all, this thesis is dealt with the contents of contract under English Law. Secondly, this thesis is analysed into the liability of shipbuilder in Products Liability under English, American and Korean Law comparisons. In conclusion, the author tries to give some suggestions as countermeasures of Products Liability to the shipbuilder in Korea.

Seaworthiness is an important part of the carrier's obligation in the carriage of goods by sea. Especially seaworthiness of the ship is one of the most important obligations of the carrier in the field of international transport law. Therefore it will be important to examine the expected impacts by adopting a continuing duty of seaworthiness in UNCITRAL Draft Instrument from the Korea point of view because Korean Commercial Act provides that carriers are only obliged to exercise due diligence to make the ship seaworthy before and at the beginning of the voyage. This paper examines the concept of the seaworthiness and analyses the provisions of the Draft Instrument for the duty of seaworthiness in comparison with the Korean Commercial Act.

The era of PSC is coming up with the increasing numbers of MOU which is a regional cooperation organization all over the world and this PSC is more likely to be intensified as time goes by. Therefore, the changes of MOU and PSC in the main maritime powers are dealt with and then the system for operating development of PSC meeting all kinds of International maritime conventions and national laws in comparison with other countries is studied in this paper.

Between 1920 and 1996, a total of 39 Conventions, 29 Recommendations and one Protocol were adopted by the International Labour conference. But Many ILO Instruments were outdated, deficient and not reflective of modern practice, many contained technical detail which discouraged ratification and were thus ineffective. However, many issues which had become relevant were not covered by existing instruments. Therefore, the Governing Body of ILO, at its 262nd Session(March-April 1995), decided to set up a Working Party on Policy regarding the Revision of Standards. It was decided that the Working Party would examine the need for revision of all maritime Conventions and Recommendations adopted before 1985 with a view to rejuvenating and strengthening the standard-setting system. The Working Party initiated its examination of maritime instruments during 273rd Session(November 1998) of the Governing Body. The review made by the Working Party has concluded that of the maritime Conventions examined, seven of them are obsolete and should be revised, 13 should be denounced and six were considered either up to date or were identified for promotion, most of which were approved by the Governing Body. The consolidated maritime labour convention will be adopted in February 2006.

Small vessels of less then 20 tonnage and leisure boats such as motor boats, sailing yachts, water motorcycle, etc have been excluded from the rules and regulations such as Marine Leisure Safety Act, Ship Act and Ship Safety Act for a long time in Korea. As a result, these small vessels and leisure boats have remained within the blind area of maritime safety and environment protection. Among these vessels and boats, some leisure boats such as motor boats of 20 horse power or more(excluding motor boats equipped with engine inside the vehicles), water motorcycles and rubber boats of 30 horse power or more are incorporated into the Marine Leisure Safety Act through the registry, safety inspection, insurance early 2005 in Korea. In relation to the scope of application of the national Acts concerned, I consider the conflicts between Acts and suggest the subordinate enforcement ordinance and regulations.

The aim of Port State Control(PSC) system is recognized as a proficient mechanism in preventing coastal traffic accident and protecting marine environment. Recently, PSC system is focused on human factor of International Maritime Convention, especially ILO and STCW Convention by considering many accidents resulted from human factor. Therefore, we have to understand of Consolidated Maritime Labour Convention which describes employment conditions and social welfare policy, the rights about the lowest wages, the overdue wages, the unemployment protection. a disaster reward, etc and STCW Convention which describes standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers. The aim of this study is to recognize inspection points about human factor of these Conventions. .

Recently, fire extinguishing systems based on water mists have been attracting public attentions in marine engineering. Performance of the fire extinguishing systems is influenced by the size and distribution of spayed water mists. Droplet analyzing method based on image processing technique for measuring droplet size and distribution has been developed. The morphological method based on partial curvature information of pre-processed images was adopted for recognition and separation of overlapped particles. Tested results show that the present method may be reliable for the analysis of the size and distribution of droplets produced by water mist spay flow.

This paper provides information on the current issues and the progress of on-going researches relating onboard fixed fire extinguishing system in the IMO Sub-committee on Fire Protection. And also prepares to introduce the recent amendment to regulations and technical trends of the water mist fire extinguishing system and high expansion foam system.

A study developing the dry powder fire extinguishing system inside the simulated machinery spaces of small ship was performed. Fire tests were conducted inside the compartments having volums 8
$m^3$ , 2.9$m^3$ and 4.5$m^3$ respectively. The openings and fans were established on the walls of the compartments. Diesel oil was used for the test fuel. In addition fire extinguishing nozzles using dry powder were installed downward at ceiling and horizontally at the wall or conner. All fires in the test were extinguished under system activation and there was no reignition. -
A study to evaluate the fire extinguishing performance of the water mist system inside simulated machinery spaces according to IMO MSC/Circ.668 was performed. Fire tests were conducted inside a compartment having a area 100
$m^2$ (10m${\times}$ 10m) with a ceiling height of 10m and door opening of 2m${\times}$ 2m in size. Test fuels were used heptane, diesel, wood crib and mineral oil. Water mist nozzles were installed downward at ceiling and horizontally at bilge area. All fires in the test were extinguished within 15minutes of system activation and there was no reignition or fire spread. -
This study describes the postinstallation maintenance technology of artificial reefs and their improvement. The maintenance technology of artificial reefs consists of four steps; the investigation of volumes of installed reefs, the removal of fishing gears entangled in reefs, the estimation of reef functions, and the establishment of surveyed results in the data base. The proper understandings of their steps is the key to improve the maintenance technology of artificial reefs.

In this study, we have developed the high resolution multichannel seismic data acquisition system and shallow marine seismic source. It is easy to operate our source system which utilizes piezoelectric transducer of high electrical power. According to water depth, survey condition and purpose, transducer number of source system can be easily changed in order to maximize field applicability. In the recording part, we used 24 bits and 8 channel high speed A/D board in order to achieve the improvement of data quality and the efficiency of data acquisition. The developed system was tested and varied with the data acquisition parameters such as source-receiver offset, and transducer number versus water depth for the field application.

In this study, among the precision decline main causes of sounding, I suggested the characteristics of sounding data acquired by echo sounder with increasing of turbidity For this, I acquired sounding data by inputting turbidity inducer artificially in artificial water tank. And then achieved regression analysis. Conclusion are as following : Sounding Capabilities can be divided into three ranges according to the turbidity : normal range, critical range and the range where data can not be obtained by an echo sounder

Side scan sonar System occupies an important position as one of marine survey equipments. The purpose of this research is to express sonar' scan images in underwater and compare with the measured size, shape and the quality of the material. Also we confirm the effectiveness of obtained images using the Side scan sonar.

A trial excavation of underwater cultural properties at Dongsam site in Busan has been conducted. The site is located in the vicinity of Dongsam shell mound. The trial excavation consists of the shore investigation and the underwater investigation. For the shore investigation four trenches were digged. For the underwater investigation twenty boreholes were cored, and sediments at four predetermined sites were removed by air lifting technique. From the trial excavation a stump of a tree with many pieces of wood, and a few fragments of earthenwares were found. A comprehensive study of the trail excavation might furnish data for studying ancient coastal environment.

Gas hydrate is ice-like crystalline lattice, formed at appropriate temperature and pressure, in which gas molecules are trapped. It is worldwide popular interesting subject as a potential energy. In korea, a seismic survey for gas hydrate have performed over the East sea by the KIGAM since 1997. In this paper, we had conducted numerical and physical modeling experiments for seismic properties on gas hydrate with field data which had been acquired over the East sea in 1998. We used a finite difference seismic method with staggered grid for 2-D elastic wave equation to generate synthetic seismograms from multi-channel surface seismic survey, OBC(Ocean Bottom Cable) and VSP(Vertical Seismic Profiling). We developed the seismic physical modeling system which is simulated in the deep sea conditions and acquired the physical model data to the various source-receiver geometry. We carried out seismic complex analysis with the obtained data. In numerical and physical modeling data, we observed the phase reversal phenomenon of reflection wave at interface between the gas hydrate and free gas. In seismic physical modeling, seismic properties of the modeling material agree with the seismic velocity estimated from the travel time of reflection events. The paper presents a method for location of subsurface UXOs. The approach utilities gradient interpretation techniques (analytic signal, horizontal gradient and Euler methods) to locate the objects. Then, linear least-squares technique, we obtain the magnetization location of the sources. We demonstrate the practical utility of the method using marine magnetic field data.

It is important to manage artificial fish reefs with installation for restoration. The instruments of survey for artificial reefs condition(location, amount etc.) is Side Scan Sonar and Multi-beam sonar. The efficient and economic survey of the artificial reefs facility is the complete survey of the SSS(Side Scan Sonar) in all area first and then the survey of the artificial reefs by MBES(Multi Beam Echo Sounder) in the finding area.

The optimum design and the performance analysis software called POSEIDON for the HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) was developed by use of BEMT. The Prandtl's tip loss theory was adopted to consider the blade tip loss. The lift and the drag coefficient of S-809 airfoil were predicted via X-FOIL and also the post stall characteristics of S-809 were estimated by the Viterna's equations. All the predicted aerodynamic characteristics are fairly well agreed with the wind tunnel test results, performed by Sommers in Delft university of technology. The rated power of the testing rotor is 20kW(FIL-20) at design conditions. The experimental aerodynamic parameters and the X-FOIL data were used for the power prediction of the FIL-20 respectively. The comparison results shows good agreement in power prediction.

The purpose of this study is focused on the analysis of 3D complex flow and performance characteristics of a centrifugal pump with volute casing. The numerical analysis was performed by commercial code CFX-10 according to the variation of flow rate, which is changing from 5.847
$m^3$ /min to 6.865$m^3$ /min. The rated rotational speed of close type impeller is 1750rpm. Turbulence model, k-${\omega}$ SST was selected to guaranty more accurate prediction of flow separation. The ICEM-CFD 10, reliable grid generation software was also adapted to secure high quality grid generation necessary for the reliable numerical simulation. The experimental results such as static head, brake horse power and efficiency of the centrifugal pump were compared with the numerical analysis results. The simulated results are good agreement with the experimental results less 5$%$ error. -
KOWACO - ChangWon Branch - have conducted the new study which aimed to improve flocculation performance in Mixers. The Purposes in this study were increasing flocculation efficiency by finding significant factor which was affected flow characteristics. In the result of this research we modified the error in equation of G-value and RPM which have been used till quite recently. Also we developed program auto-calculating G-value and RPM and then we had made their statistical list. We had conducted experiment with flocculation Mixer's model sized 1/10 by PIV's method. We analysed characteristic of all flow fields by changing case such as changing direction of flocculator roatation etc.

Numerical and experimental investigation of incompressible turbulent flow and heat transfer through square channels with varying number of ribbed walls were conducted to determined pressure drop and heat transfer. The CFX solver used for the computation. The rough walls have a
$45^0$ inclined square rib. Uniform heat flux is maintained on whole inner heat transfer channel area. The numerical results agreed well with experimental data that obtained for 7600$D_h$) of 0.0667. The results show that values of local heat transfer coefficient and friction factor increase with an increasing number of ribbed walls. -

Magnesium thin films were prepared on cold-rolled steel substrates by RF(Radio Frequency) magnetron sputtering technique.
$^{1)}$ The crystal orientation and monitoring of the deposited films were investigated by using XRD(X-ray Diffraction) and EIS(Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy), respectively. The corrosion rates of Mg thin films deposited with different argon gas pressure and substrate bias voltage were monitored by AC impedance method under a cyclic wet-dry condition, which was conducted by exposure to alternate conditions of 1h immersion in 3%NaCl solution and 5h drying at 60% RH and 25$^{\circ}C$ . The result of corrosion rate of Mg thin films deposited at various Ar gas pressures and substrate bias voltage under wet-dry cyclic exposure in chloride-containing solutions was showed the following conclusions. At the region I during the onset of the wet cycle, corrosion rate showed relatively low value. The increase in the Corrosion rate of region II is due to the increase in the chloride concentration. Corrosion rate of region III during the onset of the cycle zero and salt crystals remain on the metal surface.$^{2)}$ -
(100-x)Zn xMg alloy films are prepared onto cold-rolled steel substrates; where x ranged from 0 to about 38 atomic %. The alloy films show microcrystalline and grain structures respectively, according to preparation conditions such as composition ratio of zinc and magnesium or gas pressures etc.. And X-ray diffraction analysis indicates not only the presence of Zn-Mg thin films with forced solid solution but also the one of
$MgZn_2$ alloy films partly. In addition the influence of Mg/Zn composition ratio and morphology of the Zn-Mg alloy films on corrosion behavior is evaluated by electro-chemical anodic polarization tests in deaerated 3% NaCl solution. From this experimental results, all the prepared Zn-Mg alloy films showed obviously good corrosion resistance to compare with 99.99% Zn and 99.99% Mg Ingots for evaporation metal. It is thought that the Zn-Mg films with effective forced solid solution prepared by plasma enhanced PVD method, produces smaller and denser grain structure so that may improve the formation of homogeneous passive layer in corrosion environment. -
Cathodic protection is one of the successful ways to prevent corrosion of steel structures in marine environments. The unique feature of cathodic protection in seawater is the formation of calcareous deposits on cathodic metal surface. The formation principles of calcareous deposit seawater had been known for a long time. That is, cathodic reduction reactions associated with cathodic protection in seawater generate
$OH^-$ at the metal surface in accordance with the formular ; 1/2$O_2$ +$H_2O$ +$2e^-$ $2OH^-$ and$2H_2O$ +$2e^-$ ${\rightarrow}$ $H_2$ +$2OH^-$ . These reactions increase the pH at the metal / seawater interface. The high pH causes precipitation of$Mg(OH)_2$ and$CaCO_3$ in accordance with the formular ;$Mg^{2+}$ +$2(OH)^-$ ${\rightarrow}$ $Mg(OH)_2$ and$Ca^{2+}$ +$HCO_3^-$ +$OH^-$ ${\rightarrow}$ $H_2O$ +$CaCO_3$ . These are typically the main compounds in calcareous deposits. It obviously has several advantages compared to the conventional coatings, since the environment-friendly calcareous deposit coating is formed by the elements($Mg^{2+}$ ,$Ca^{2+}$ ) naturally present in seawater. In this study, environmental friendly calcareous deposit films were prepared on steel plates by electro plating technic in natural seawater. The influence of current density on composition ratio, structure and morphology of the coated films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy formation process of calcareous deposits films in natural seawater. And we confirmed the properties of all the films can be improved greatly by controlling the material structure and morphology with effective use of the electroplating method in natural seawater. -
This paper is analyzed a new modulation method of OSW(Optimized Sine-Wave) modulation strategy for cascaded H-bridge multi-level inverter. The inverter structure was modified with the maximum output voltage level, and the switching angle was calculated easily to adjust the requested Vrms of the output. The suggested modulation method could make output waveform very close to the ideal sine wave, and the THD value was improved also remarkably.

해상에서 인터넷을 사용하는 데 많은 기술적, 경제적 제약이 따른다. 육상의 인터넷 서비스를 바다 위에서 실현하기 위해서는 기지국과 같은 중앙 통제 시스템이 없는 MANET을 기반으로 하는 해상통신망이 새롭게 구축되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 해상환경과 선박 내 단말장치의 특성을 최대한 고려한 해상 MANET 모델을 새롭게 설계하였다. 원양에서 선박들이 주로 주어진 항로를 기준으로 항해하는 특성을 고려하여, 개별적 이동노드(선박)를 대상으로 경로를 찾는 것이 아니라 정적 정보인 항로와 동적 정보인 선박을 복합적으로 활용하여 최단경로를 찾아내는 복합적 항로기반 라우팅(HCBR) 프로토콜을 제안하였다. 지리 정보를 이용하는 LAR 프로토콜과 성능 비교에서 경로 발견 시 제어패킷을 전혀 쓰지 않으면서 최단 경로를 훨씬 더 잘 찾아내는 특성을 실험적으로 파악하였다.

A frequency synthesizer of 10 GHz
${\sim}$ 11 GHz for FMCW radar is designed and implemented by the form of indirect frequency synthesizer of a single loop structure. The synthesizer uses a high speed digital PLL chip. It is difficult to divide directly by using a program counter of PLL chip because the output frequency of VCO is 10 GHz${\sim}$ 11 GHz, so we lower the frequency to 625 MHz${\sim}$ 687.5 MHz by using a prescaler, and then divide the frequency by the program counter. The output frequency sweep of VCO from 10 GHz to 11 GHz is measured. -
Desuperheater is a passive device to control the temperature of steam in various plants. However, in spite of its simple structure, the accurate prediction of a desuperheater is very difficult because there are many designed factors for the design of a desuperheater. In this study, the theory of heat transfer phenomena in a desuperheater was developed and the various design factors are evaluated. As a results, we confirmed that the droplet size of 30 - 200 is best effective for the performance of a desuperheater.

The results of an experimental and analytical study of composite pressure hull on buckling pressure are presented for URN 300. We predicted the buckling and post buckling analysis of composite laminated cylindrical shell and panel under external compression by using ABAQUS/Standard[Ver 6.4]. To obtain nonlinear static equilibrium solutions for unstable problems, where the load-displacement response can exhibit the type of nonlinear buckling behavior, during periods of the response, the load and/or the displacement may decrease as the solution evolves, used the modified Riks method. Experiments were conducted to verify the validation of present analysis for cross-ply laminated shells. The shells considered in the study have four different lamination patterns, [
${\pm}{\Theta}$ /0/90]$_{14s}$ ,[${\pm}{\Theta}_{14}$ /$0_{14}$ /$90_{14}$ ],[${\pm}$ 45/0/90]$_{18s}$ and [/0/90]$_{18s}$ . At the result of this study, the optimized ply orientation angle is$75^{\circ}$ . The critical load from experiment is 69% of that of numerical analysis, because the fracture of matrix was generated before buckling. So URN 300 is not proper to use at the condition under high external pressure. -
Naval equipments are installed and used for naval vessel with different environmental conditions comparing to the commercial vessel, for example, high engine power per ship displacement size, severe vibration and shock due to high running speed and explosion from naval gun's bombardment and underwater weapons. Therefore, those equipments must be installed on shipboard with small spaces, high ambient temperature around engine room and which are required be fabricated with high resistances of vibration, shock and heat resources. But in case of commercial vessel, the performances of their recent equipments naval have been improved continuously due to the technology development of domestic shipbuilding and shipboard equipment industries, together with the related fundamental industries i.e, metal, steel and electronic industries, to an international level since 1970. With these results, it became possible to unify the specifications of shipboard equipments for the commercial and military vessels(Dual-Use). In this study, vibration and shock test standards for the commercial and military vessels will be compared and reviewed technically.

This paper presents an integrated navagation control concept for underwater vehicles under high speed navigation circumstance. First of all, in order to control an underwater vehicle with respect to automatic navigation, an integrated navigation control method is suggested in view of synchronous control for course keeping, diving and depth control. An exact nonlinear model equation with six-degree-of-freedom is derived for control algorithm. To identify various hydrodynamic coefficients of the equation, an experimental approach is introduced and results are demonstrated for MANTA type model.

Sub-bottom profiler(SBP) has been used extensively for the mapping of basement in the foundation design of offshore structure, for pre- and post-dredging operations within harbors and channels, for selection of pipeline routes, sitting of drilling platforms, and in the exploration for an aggregates such as sands and gravels. During the construction of Siwha embankment for irrigation water and the expansion of arable land, the breaking of an embankment unfortunately occurred so that a lot of riprap was swept away and widely dispersed by the tide and strong current. The feasibility study for the construction of the tidal-powered electric plant in Siwha embankment was performed quite recently. Therefore we made use of SBP survey to investigate the distribution of the lost riprap. We could successfully map out the distribution of the lost riprap from the reflection amplitude characteristics of the sediments in SBP data set. We demonstrated the variation of reflection amplitude versus the sediments with and/or without riprap by means of the numerical modeling of acoustic wave equation using finite difference method. Also we examined an amplitude anomaly of the ripraped area through the physical modeling using ultrasonic.

In this study, it was investigated about endurance and fatigue crack propagation rate of according to stress ratio of SMAW commonly using for welding structures in present. Fatigue crack propagation rate(da/dN) of low load(R=0.1) was lower than of high load(R=0.6) for piping weld. And in stage I,
${\Delta}$ Kth, the threshold stress intensity factor of the weld under heavy load is higher than under small load. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the weld of stress ratio R=0.l than in the weld of stress ratio R=0.6. -
In this study, it was investigated about endurance and fatigue crack propagation rate of according to welding methods of SMAW and FCAW commonly using for welding structures in present. Endurance limits carried out highly in the order of SMAW, FCAW and fatigue crack propagation rate out lowly in the order of SMAW, FCAW. By these results, it is needed to used SMAW welding methods for welding structures with small welding capacity and FCAW methods for large welding structures after consideration about economic gains and operation efficiency of welding. Fatigue crack propagation rate is more effected by strength of welding materials than endurance limit of welding materials according to welding methods..

The compressive residual stress, which is induced by shot peening process, has the effect of increasing the intrinsic fatigue strength of surface and therefore would be beneficial in reducing the probability of fatigue damage. However, it was not known that the effect of shot peening in corrosion environment. In this study, the effect of shot peening on corrosion fatigue crack growth of sping steel immersed in 6%
$FeCl_3$ solution and corrosion characteristics with considering fracture mechanics. The results of the experimental study corrosion fatigue characteristics of spring steel are as follows; the fatigue crack growth rate of the shot peening material was lower than of the un peening material. And fatigue life shows more improvement in the shot peening material than un peening material. This is because the compressive residual stress of surface operate resistance of corrosion fatigue crack propagation. It is assumed that the shot peening process improve corrosive resistance and mechanical property. -
As environmental problems are important, automotive industries are developing various techniques to prevent air pollution. One of these is Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system. It removes blowby gas which includes about 30% hydrocarbon of total generated quantity. In this system, a PCV valve is attached in a manifold suction tube to control the flow rate of blowby gas which generates differently according to various operating conditions of an automotive engine. As this valve is very important, designers are feeling to design it because of both small size and high velocity. For this reason, we numerically investigated to understand both spool dynamic motion and internal fluid flow characteristics. As the results, spool dynamic characteristics, i.e. displacement, velocity, acting force, increase in direct proportion to the magnitude of differential pressure and indicate periodic oscillating motions. And, the velocity at the orifice region decreases according to the increase of differential pressure because of energy loss which is caused by the sudden decrease of flow area at the orifice region and the increase of flow volume in the front of spool head. Finally, the mass flow rate at the outlet decreases with the increase of spool displacement. We expect that PCV valve designers can easily understand fluid flow inside a PCV valve with our visual information for their help.

Stainless steel has been stably used closed by passivity oxidation films(
$Cr_2O_3$ ) is made by neutral atmospheric environment. However, passivity oxidation films of the surface of stainless steel occasionally comes to be destroyed in seawater which is influenced by an environment having halogen ion like$Cl^-$ , then, localization corrosion comes to occur. Stainless steel 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments made an experiment on simulation of sacrifical anode(Al, Zn). Through these experiment and study, following results have been obtained ; According to the field inspection and corrosion simulation, the corrosion on the 2nd class stainless steel shaft(STS 304) in FRP fishing boat has been verified to occur by crevice corrosion and galvanic corrosion etc.. According to the comparison and analysis of Stainless steel 304 shaft materials after simulation leaving unprotected and applying cathodic protection, unprotected shaft specimen of stainless steel 304 was severely corroded, but, protected shaft specimen was not totally corroded. This result is assumed to be made by the facts that anodic reaction,$Fe{\rightarrow}Fe^{2+}$ +$2e^-$ , has been restricted by the cathodic protection current of sacrificial anode material. -

And brine temperature in the copper tube was kept -15$^{circ}C$ because, generally cooling temperature range is constantly -15$^{circ}C$ in the heat exchanger for air conditioning system. in conclusion, through this experiment, we did compare with frost layer and frost thickness in each condition and examine these data -
An experimental study on the Hybrid Cooling Tower has been done having a rated capacity of 3RT. Counter flow type fill, cross flow type fill and hybrid-type fill which is combined with two type fills as previously stated having a height of 0.3m have been used in the 0.8m
${\times}$ 0.4m${\times}$ 1.9m dimensional tower respectively. The heat exchanger is consisting of 2 or 3 rows. The relevant temperatures and the velocities were selected based on the typical Korean weather for the year round operation of the tower. The cooling capacity of the tower is explained with respect to varying air inlet velocities, wet-bulb temperatures, and air to cooling water volume flow rate ratio (L/G ratio). The capacity of the hybrid-type fill was much superior to other fills, but hybrid-type fill shows higher pressure drop. -
This study has performed to investigate the Buddhist remains at Korea Particularly, the Nirvana and Sarira Pagoda at Tongdo temple, Sangwoun temple, Jungam temple, Bubheung temple and Bongjongam are handled by using on the observation, references and interviews with some experts in Buddhist culture. The results in Korea are compared with that of Thailand and China. But, The Nirvana and the Sarira Pagoda to keep Buddha's relic are quite different at each temple in Korea, Thailand and China.

The experiments were conducted without oil in a closed refrigerant loop which was driven by a magnetic gear pump. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump, a mass flow meter, a pre-heater and evaporator(test section). The test section was made of a horizontal stainless steel tube with the inner diameter of 4.57 mm, and length of 4 m. The experiments were conducted at mass flux of 200 to 700 kg/
$m^2s$ , saturation temperature of 0$^{circ}C$ to 20$^{circ}C$ , and heat flux of 10 to 30 kW/$m^2$ . The test results showed the evaporation heat transfer of$CO_2$ has great effect on more nucleate boiling than convective boiling. The evaporation heat transfer coefficients of$CO_2$ are highly dependent on the vapor quality, heat flux and saturation temperature. In comparison with test results and existing correlations, correlations failed to predict the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of$CO_2$ , therefore, it is necessary to develop reliable and accurate predictions determining the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of$CO_2$ in a horizontal tube. -
The SrS:Ag, Cl thin films have been grown by the hot wall technique with S furnace placed on the outside of the growth chamber in order to investigate the crystallographic and optical characteristics. The XRD patterns indicate a strongly preferential orientation in the [200] direction. The PL spectrum has an emission peak of about 398nm which is assigned by the transition from

This paper presents the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics during cooling process of carbon dioxide in a horizontal tube. The test section is a tube in tube type heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and water flowing in the annulus. It was made of a stainless steel tube with the inner diameter of 7.75 [mm], the outer 2 diameter of 9.53 [mm] and length of 6000 [mm]. The refrigerant mass fluxes were
$200{\sim}400$ [kg/$m^2s$ ] and the average pressure varied from 7.5 [MPa] to 10.0 [MPa]. The main results were summarized as follows The heat transfer coefficient of supercritical$CO_2$ increases in decrease of the gas cooler pressure. And the heat transfer coefficient increases with respect to the increase of the refrigerant mass flux. Among some correlations proposed in a transcritical region, Bringer-Smith's correlation has some analogy with experimental results. The pressure drop decreases in increase of the gas cooler pressure and increases with respect to increase the refrigerant mass flux. -

$CO_2$ ) in a helically coiled tube. The main components of the apparatus consist of a receiver, a variable speed pump, a mass flowmeter, a pre-heater, a gas cooler(test section) and an isothermal tank. The test section with the inner diameter 4.55 [mm] is a tube in tube type heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and water flowing in the annulus. The main results were summarized as follows : The heat transfer coefficient increases with respect to the decrease of the gas cooler pressure in a supercritical region and the increase of the refrigerant mass flux. The pressure drop decreases in increases of the gas cooler pressure and increases with respect to increases the refrigerant mass flux. -
In this paper, flowfield and acoustic-field around moving bodies are simulated by the Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) formulation in FDLBM. The effect of the ALE is checked by comparing flow about a square cylinder in ALE formulation and that in the fixed coordinates, and the results show good agreement. Matching procedure between the moving grid and fixed grid is also considered. The applied method in which the both grids are connected through buffer zone is shown to be superior to moving overlapped grid. Dipole-like emissions of sound wave from harmonically vibrating bodies in 2- and 3-dimensional cases are simulated.

The effect of surrounding air velocity on the soot deposition process from a diffusion flame to a solid wall was investigated in a microgravity environment to attain in-situ observations of the process. An ethylene(
$C_2H_4$ ) diffusion flame was formed around a cylindrical rod burner in surrounding air velocity of$v_{air}$ =2.5, 5, and 10 cm/s with oxygen concentration of 35 % and wall temperature of 300 K. Laser extinction was adopted to determine the soot volume fraction distribution between the flame and burner wall. The experimental results show that the soot particle distribution region moves closer to the surface of the wall with increasing surrounding air velocity. A numerical simulation was also performed to understand the motion of soot particles in the flame and the characteristics of the soot deposition to the wall. The results successfully predicted the differences in the motion of soot particles by different surrounding air velocity near the burner surface and are in good agreement with observed soot behavior in microgravity. A comparison of the calculations and experimental results led to the conclusion that a consideration of the thermophoretic effect is essential to understand the soot deposition on walls. -
This paper has been carried out to investigate heat transfer characteristics of loop type capillary heat pipe using R141b as a working fluid. In an experiment heat load are changed from 50W to 250W and the temperature of cooling water is fixed to 20
$^{circ}C$ . The heat pipe is composed of 10 turns and outer diameter of heat pipe is 3.2mm. The results show that heat transport rate of this type heat pipe using R141b as a working fluid is good. -
