When most manufacturing company produce grinding product operators decide grinding condition by experience and subjective judgment. The study on grinding manufacture have been developed to get the grinding condition with the same result when non-experienced or experienced worker work. The objective of this study is to develope the grinding condition and predict the result of grinding by neural network. Several discussions were made in following areas as; getting MRR with image processing, the architecture optimization of neural network with experiment design, analysis of the input neurons using sensitivity approach. The results showed that the developed approach was the best method in predicting grinding condition with respect to surface finish quality.

이 논문에서는 다중 프로브 교정 시 발생하는 오차를 측정하여 보정함으로써 측정 정밀도를 향상시킬 수 있는 프로그램을 개발에 대하여 연구하였다. 교정 시와 동일한 조건으로 기준구를 측정하여 오차를 산출한 다음 프로브 파라미터가 기록된 시스템 파일을 수정함으로써 교정 오차를 보정하는 프로그램을 개발하였다. 실험 결과 이론값과 실제값의 차가 CMM 분해능의 2배 이내임을 확인하였으며 프로그램은 CMM 사용자가 직접 작성 및 편집 가능하도록 DMIS 언어를 사용하였다.

Inclined surface milling in the mould and die industries is one of the most commonly needed cutting process. For the variety and complexity of cutting characteristics in various cutting condition, it is difficult to select a optimal tool path orientation. The comparative results through FFT analysis in this study provide a guideline for the selection tool path orientation.

This research presents a modeling and a manufacturing method of insert type milling cutters such as face cutter, flat endmill and ball endmill. The methods introduced in this paper adopts the multi-tasking 5-axis machining that is increasing machining accuracy of holder and position accuracy of bolting points. So this can be used in the basic document of the total package program that involves modeling and manufacturing module in various insert cutters.

Electro-theological fluid is recently used for the micro polishing of 3-dimensional micro-aspherical lens. It's also used for polishing small area defects on the wide flat wafer. Since ER fluid shows a behavior of viscosity changing under certain electric fields. micro polishing efficiency may be enhanced for certain cases. In this paper, a perfluorinated carbonyl fluoride oil based ER fluids was used to improve surface polishing rate and submicron-scale accuracy. As the polishing electrodes, micro size cylindrical tools had been used for maximizing the electric field. An experimental device, which was applied for micro polishing a number of wafers of 4inches in size and other workpiece. was made on a precision polishing system. It consisted of a steel electrode. a wafer fixture. l0㎃ current and DC 5㎸ power supply unit, and a controller unit. From the Experiments. the ER fluid is applicable for micro polishing of small parts.

The purpose of this paper is to look at the characteristics of surface finishing which is one of the form accuracies and to obtain the fundamental technical data from the process of machining with diamond tool through experiment and theoretical analysis. The experiments were conducted with domestic made ultra-precision machine and MCD.PCD tool, with aluminum alloyed material and brass being used for the work pieces. The goal of the size accuracy was set to 100nm. The most suitable tool nose radius and machining conditions were selected, and the variations of the surface roughness were observed using SEM method while machining the distance of up to 500km. These data were evaluated and they examined the variation of the machined surfaces while cutting up to 500km of machining distance. At the same time, the state for the wear of diamond tool nose was analyzed and carefully examined through the newest measuring device. Additionally, the characteristics of ultra-precision machining technology were studied through visual analysis.

Formed insert type tool satisfy both the surface roughness and geometric accuracy, so that cutting edge of formed tool can duplicate final feature. For experiment the formed tools with various clearance angles are machined. And the tools are evaluated with respect cutting force, flank rear and surface roughness to optimistic condition.

Ultrasonic machining is effective for machining of extreme hard and brittle materials, including glass, ceramic, carbide, graphite. The major machining principle involves the direct hammering as well as the impact of abrasive panicles on the workpiece. Also, it involve cavitation erosion. The general workpiece is flat side. This study attempted micro hole machining of a curved surface of glass tube. Ultrasonic machining is fault of the slow machining speed. An experiment does and got 16 seconds validity machining time as increasing the processing speed. Moreover, entrance crack and surface roughness was similar both machining speed is slow and fast. Several micro hole of glass tube machined using one micro tool, but tool wear is infinitesimal.

In this paper, we will present the Aspheric Surface Program for optical element. X-ray optical element designed to give a high resolution and reflectively in order to observe the living cell in the range of the water window. According to optical design, we developed the Aspheric Surface Program using the visual basic. Using the Aspheric Surface Program, we directly machined the electroless nickel bulk.

This study is to investigate a fracture characteristics of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) under the tensile loading as a function of acoustic emission (AE) according to the frequency analysis (transient mode) and AE source location (location mode). It was found that the fracture mechanism of AE frequency analysis was a useful tool for the estimation of different type of fracture in CFRP, i.e., matrix(epoxy resin) cracking, delamitation and fiber breakage same as AE amplitude distribution.

The work presented here deals with controller design using error model constructed with proportional control ramp response. The design aims at the improvement of transient response, steady-state error reduction with stability preservation, generation of the consistent contour error through the proportional gain regulation of a mismatched system. The first step is to generate tracking-error curve with proportional control only and decide the added error signal shape on the error curve. The next is to construct a table for the steady-state loop gain with step input. The table is used for selecting the proportional gain. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is confirmed through the simulation and experiment.

In this study, the pattern of lens aberration was studied at different injection molding conditions such as injection speed, holding pressure, holding pressure time, mold temperature and cylinder temperature and, then, the results were analyzed with a laser interferometer. It was demonstrated that optimal condition of lens aberration could be achieved by adjustment of injection molding conditions.

Injection molding is the most widely used process fir the industrial forming of plastic articles. During an injection molding process of composites, the fiber-matrix separation and fiber orientation are caused by the flow of molten polymer/fiber mixture. As a result. the product tends to be nonhomogeneous and anisotropic. Hence, it is very important to clarify the relations between separation orientation and injection molding conditions. So far, there is no research on the measurement of fiber orientation using image processing. In this study, the effects of fiber content ratio and molding condition on the fiber orientation-angle distributions are studied experientially. Using the image processing method, the fiber orientation distribution of welding pars in injection-molded products is assessed. And the effects of fiber content and injection mold shapes on the fiber orientation in case of fiber reinforced polymeric composites are studied experimentally.

Experimental modal analysis is an effective tool to investigate the dynamic behavior of machining centers. This paper presents the measurement system and experimental investigation on the modal analysis of machining centers. The modal analysis shows the weak part of the machining center. An important local model of spindle in our experiment, which influences the dynamics of machining process, is proposed in this paper. The results provide the foundation of structure modification for good dynamic behaviors.

We developed a helical type drum with an oblique cutting condition for sawdust machine. The existing drum has an orthogonal cutting(2D) condition considering of saw cutter and wood cutting pattern. Additional disadvantage of this type include big cutting resistance, high cost of cutting power and extreme occurrence of vibrations. To improve this shortcoming, we developed a helical type drum with an oblique cutting(3D) condition, therefore, this type drum decreased the vibration and cutting resistance of sawdust machine, and also improved productivity and sawdust porosity.

A reasonable analysis of cutting force in end milling may give much advantage to improvement of productivity and cutting tool life. In order to analyze cutting force, the cutting dynamics was modelled mathematically by using chip load, cutting geometry, and the relationship between cutting forces and the chip load. Specific cutting constants of the cutting dynamics model were obtained by average cutting forces, tool diameter, cutting speed, feed, axial depth, and radial depth of cut. The effects of the cutting conditions on the specific cutting force constants in milling were studied. The model is verified through comparisons of model predicted cutting forces with measured culling forces obtained from machining experiments

Micro/meso cutting is getting more important in the fields of precision machining technology. A micro-turning lathe is one of parts to consist the Micro Factory. It accepts stepwise motion actuators that are used for feeding system instead of the conventional mechanism. It is consisted of two Piezoelectric ceramics; one is for feeding the slider, and the other is for clamping the slider in the guide way of the body. The linearity and positional accuracy of the actuators are good enough for high precision motion. The spindle unit is operated with DC motor on the top of the slider. The motion is communicated with miniaturized linear encoder attached on each side of axis. A mono crystal diamond tool is used for cutting tool. This micro-lathe has been made a machining experiment to see the characteristics of micro-machining.

This paper deals with the study of feasibility of rotary carbide tools in the machining of aluminium alloy. A rotary tool holder was designed and manufactured for this work. Experiments were performed using Taguchi methods and regression analysis to analyse the influence of various factors and their interactions on the cutting characteristics of rotary carbide tools during machining. The cutting force is influenced the most featly at the inclination angle. The surface roughness is influenced distinctly at depth of cut. It deduced an equation to predict cutting force and surface roughness. Hence, it could be concluded here that the proposed model agrees with the experimental data satisfactorily.

The tool geometry parameters and cutting process have complex relationships. Until now, various cutting test were needed to acquire optimal design of end mill for the purpose of high speed machining, due to the insufficient knowledge about cutting process. In high speed machining. Using various tools with different geometry, relationships between tool geometry parameter (rake angle, clearance angle, length of cutter) and cutting process (cutting force, surface accuracy, surface roughness) have been studied. Acquired data can be used to design optimal tool for high speed machining and developed tool geometry design S/W.

In this study, genetic algorithm mixed binary and real encoding is proposed to deal with design variables of various types. And that is applied to optimum design of Multi-stage gear drive. Design of pressure vessel which is mixed discrete and continuous variables is applied to verify reasonableness of proposed genetic algorithm. The proposed genetic algorithm is applied for the gear ratio optimization and the volume minimization of geared motor which is used in field. In result, it shows that the volume has decreased about 8% compared with the existing geared motor.

By the use of a similar numerical method as that in the previous paper, the forming limit strain by coaling method of clad sheet metals is investigated, in which the FEM is applied and J2G(J
$_2$ -Gotoh's corner theory) is utilized as the plasticity constitutive equation. Declined Multilayer Metals Materials are stretched in a plane-strain state, with various work-hardening exponent n-values and thicknesses of each layer. Processes of shear-band formation in such composite sheets are clearly illustrated. It is concluded that, in the bonded state, the higher limiting strain of one layer is reduced due to the lower limiting strain of the other layer and vice versa, and does not necessarily obey the rule of linear combination of the limiting strain of each layer weighted according thickness. -
This study was to evaluate the effect of carbon content on metallic change and fatigue characteristics with Fe-29% Ni-17% Co, low heat expansion alloy, widely using electronic components, precision machines, and sealing with glass and metal etc. The steels were fabricated with variation of carbon content, 0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.1, and 0.20% with VIM and tensile test and fatigue test were performed to achieve the above purpose. The more carbon content, the higher hardness value and yield strength. But elongation of 0.03%C, 0.06%C, and 0.10%C specimen decreased about 2.2%, 1.5% and 0.8% respectively mote than that of the base metal. Especially the strength and elongation of 0.20%C specimen increased simultaneously about 14.4% and 7.5%. Fatigue life of 0.03%C specimen decreased but the more carbon content, the higher fatigue life over 0.06% carbon content more than that of base metal.

Effects of Nb(Niobium) contents and solution annealing on the strength and fatigue lift of 18%Ni maraging steel commonly using in aircraft, space field, nuclear energy, and vehicle etc. were investigated. Also the fatigue life stress intensity factor were compared experiment result and FEA(finite element analysis) result. The more Nb content, the higher or the lower fatigue lift on base metal specimens or solution annealed specimens showing that the fatigue life was almost the same. The maximum stresses of X, Y, and Z axis direction showed about 2.12
${\times}$ 10$^2$ MPa, 4.40${\times}$ 10$^2$ MPa and 1.32${\times}$ 10$^2$ MPa respectively. The Y direction stress showed the highest because of the same direction as the loading direction. The fatigue lives showed about 7% lower FEA result than experiment result showing almost invariable error every analyzed cycle. Stress intensity factor of the FEA result was lower about 3.5∼10% than that of the experiment result showing that the longer fatigue crack length, the higher error. It considered that the cause for the difference was the modeled crack tip having always the same shape and condition regardless of the crack growth. -
The blister packaging is applied to many fields in recent years for its merit that it enable consumer to see the products. The most of battery packaging are blister type. However, the lithium battery is dealt with very carefully in packaging because of its explosion. The existing packaging machines lot lithium battery are mostly adapted alkaline packaging machine and their capacity is very inferior to other process, either. In this paper, the virtual prototype of the automatic blister packaging system for lithium battery which has new mechanism is developed and its performance is evaluated.

In the semiconductor and the optical industry a new transport system which can replace the conventional sliding system is required. These systems are driven by magnetic field and conveyer belt. The magnetic field damages semiconductor and contact force scratches the optical lens. The ultrasonic wave driven system can solve these problem. In this paper, the relationship of transporting speed according to the change of flexural beam shape and the effect of transporting speed according to the change of weight and amplification voltage are verified. The vibration behavior of flexural beam in the ultrasonic transport system is experimented using Laser Scanning Vibrometer.

In the recent years, as the research and the development of micro and precision machinery become active, the interest of micro actuators using SMA(Shape Memory Alloy) has been increased. The dydnamic characteristic analysis of SMA is necessary for actuator application and many common researches report the material characteristics of SMA sufficiently. However the research for dynamic characteristics is very deficient. In this paper, the helical suing are fabricated with NiTi SMA wire of high resistivity. The force, response speed, temperature, and displacement are measured by digital force gauge, infrared thermometer, and laser displacement sensor so that the dynamic characteristics of this SMA is analyzed. Also, bidicrectional actuator was fabricated and experimented for its performance.

At this research, we examined probability of light bulb's life span value and prediction on purpose to inquire out the span of repeat velocity as fracture probability by executing the fatigue test, which is considered property of Tungsten filament's thermal fatigue used as an automobile bulb. As a result we can confirm what the most suitable solution is weibull distribution and log normal distribution. Tungsten filament's span gets longer as the fatigue repeat velocity gets shorter And, repeat span is about 15%~40% shorter than sequence life span.

In this study, shape optimization of micro-static mixer with a cantilever beam was accomplished for mixing the mixing efficiency by using successive response surface approximations. Variables were chosen as the length of cantilever beam and the angle between horizontal and the cantilever beam. Sequential approximate optimization method was used to deal with both highly nonlinear and non-smooth characteristics of flow field in a micro-static mixer. Shape optimization problem of a micro-static mixer can be divided into a series of simple subproblems. Approximation to solve the subproblems was performed by response surface approximation, which does not require the sensitivity analysis. To verify the reliability of approximated objective function and the accuracy of it, ANOVA analysis and variables selection method were implemented, respectively. It was verified that successive response surface approximation worked very well and the mixing efficiency was improved very much comparing with the initial shape of a micro-static mixer.

A planetary gear trains has characteristics in compactness, power transformation ability and constant meshing. Usability is increased in applications of auto transmission and industrial gearbox. Study on optimum design of planetary gear train has been progressed on minimization of weight, miniaturization of planetary gear train and improvement of high strength. There are demands of study for the planetary gear train required long lift estimation In this wort being considered life, strength, intereference, contact ratio and aspect ratio, the optimum design algorithm is proposed to reduce the volume of planetary gear train with transferring the same amount of power. In the design of algorithm for planetary gear train, the determination of teeth number is separated to achieve simplicity and the simulated annealing method as a global optimal technique is used for optimal design method.

The main objective of the present study is to analyze the feasibility of fuel cell powered vehicle, which leads to carry out system design and performance analysis. The major design concepts which include battery, driving motor, and fuel cell module are analyzed and discussed for the future development. The traction power of fuel cell vehicle is calculated according to the driving courses specified. Further, the fuel cell stack is analyzed to determine the capacity of stack as a function of velocity for the appropriate power required.

Over the last few years, there has been a growing interest in quantitative representation of the weld pools in order to relate the processing conditions to the driving forces of the weldment produced and to use this information for the optimization of the welding process. A theoretical model offers a powerful alternative to check the physical concepts of the welding process and the effects of driving forces. To solve this problem, a 2-D thermo-fluid model were eve loped for determining temperature and velocity distribution for the GMA welding process.

This study proposed the analysis of mass position detection and modified stiffness due to the change of the mass and stiffness of structure by using the original and modified dynamic characteristics. The method is applied to examples of a cantilever and 3 degree of freedom by modifying the mass. The predicted detection of mass positions and magnitudes are in good agrement with these from the structural reanalysis using the modified mass.

The laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and deep penetration. Welding characteristics of Inconel 600 Alloy using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. The major process parameters studied in the present laser welding experiment were position of focus, laser power, travel speed. The gap and offset maintained as small as possible. Optical microscope were used to investigate the microstructures of the welded zone. The follow conclusions can be drawn the laser power and travel speed have a pronounced effect the fusion zone size and shape.

This paper deals with tipping over of hydraulic excavator's crane work. If excavator lift too heavy weight, excavator tipped up. This is 38% of whole excavator accidents. In this paper, tipping over load which is maximum load of excavator can lift with displacement of excavator links, real load and tipping over rate are calculated with Zero Moment Point. We designed the tipping-over stability criterion algorithm considering the dynamic characteristics to which ZMP theory is applied and discussed the usefulness of the proposed algorithm compared with the moment equilibrium equation through the simulation and the actual test.

In recent years, as the demands of VBNS(Very high speed Backbone Network Service) and VDSL(Very high-data rate Digital Subscriber Line) increase, the development of kernel parts of optical communication such as PLC(Planar Light Circuit), Coupler, WDM elements increase. The alignment and the attachment technology are very important to fabricate the optical elements for communication. In this paper, the mechanism of rotational stage, the contact sensing unit, and integrated control circuit for the optical alignment system are studied.

A cold & hot rolling coil production line of iron nill consists of a kind of coherent automatic process, but an automatic labelling process still had technical difficulties in the automation of its process. The reason for difficulties in building an automatic process is that quantitative data for each rolled coil from every shipping is not easy to receive from the previous process. it is not possible to apply for a general and simple purpose robot that is actually worked through a taught position to the process because the size and direction of the coi1 has differed on every shipping. From these reasons. we introduce a robot vision system to accept an expected variable situation and to ensure the stability and flexibility of the process. This paper examines a study applied for similar cases and finds the position and direction of relied coil using the moment invariant algorithm proposed by Hu. In addition. the camera calibration and position error compensation algorithm is applied by the analysis of the relationship of transition in a space coordinate system. The construction of a robot vision system proposed by this paper is a more intellectual system than that of the automatic labelling system. which is already used to the Daihen steel nill of NEW JAPAN steel mill co. Ltd in Japan, and shows a better independent operation in the field of production.

The equipment of industrial robot in manufacturing and assembly lines has rapidly increased. In order to achieve high productivity and flexibility, it becomes very important to develop the visual feedback control system with Off-Line Programming System(OLPS). We can save much efforts and time in adjusting robots to newly defined workcells by using OLPS. A proposed visual calibration scheme is based on position-based visual feedback. The calibration program firstly generates predicted images of objects in an assumed end-effector position. The process to generate predicted images consists of projection to screen-coordinates, visible range test and construction of simple silhouette figures. Then camera images acquired are compared with predicted ones for updating position and orientation data. Computation of error is very simple because the scheme is based on perspective projection which can be also expanded to experimental results. Computation time can be extremely reduced because the proposed method does not require the precise calculation of tree-dimensional object data and image Jacobian.

This paper proposed trajectory tracking control of mobile robot. Trajectory tracking control scheme are real coding genetic-algorithm and back-propergation algorithm. Control scheme ability experience proposed simulation. Stable tracking control problem of mobile robots have been studied in recent years. These studios have guaranteed stability of controller, but the performance of transient state has not been guaranteed. In some situations, constant gain controller shows overshoots and oscillations. So we introduce better control scheme using Real coding Genetic Algorithm(RCGA) and neural network. Using RCGA, we can find proper gains in several situations and these gains are generalized by neural network. The generalization power of neural network will give proper gain in untrained situation. Performance of proposed controller will verify numerical simulations and the results show better performance than constant gain controller.

Neural networks are works are used in the framework of sensor based tracking control of robot manipulators. They learn by practice movements the relationship between PSD(an analog Position Sensitive Detector) sensor readings for target positions and the joint commands to reach them. Using this configuration, the system can track or follow a moving or stationary object in real time. Furthermore, an efficient neural network architecture has been developed for real time learning. This network uses multiple sets of simple back propagation networks one of which is selected according to which division(corresponding to a cluster of the self-organizing feature map) in data space the current input data belongs to. This lends itself to a very training and processing implementation required for real time control.

This study has been focused on the development of automatic bottle air rinser. It is designed to rinse clean empty bottles prior to filling. The bottles are automatically indexed beneath an air nozzle that has both a clean airjet and vacuum source. The bottle is first given a burst of clean air to loosen any particles from the wall of the bottle. A vacuum sequence follows which removes all particulates into a self contained filter unit. In order to the provide the desired function, analysis is carried out by FEM simulation using FLUENT and CATIA software. The final results of analysis are applied to the design of automatic bottle rinser and the machine is successfully developed.

As next generation display, TFT LCD gets into the spotlight, and the bigger glass size is required. Currently, its display size is 1500 mm by 1870 mm at the six generation comparing with 300mm by 400 mm at the first one and the size is increasing continuously, which cause the difficulties to apply the cleaning operation including the general brush cleaning. In this study, water-jet cleaning operation has been introduced, which spent the less water them other cleaning methods. Throughout the experiment, is has been found the possible damage of the declined cell and the variation of the tilt bias angle depending upon the increasing time. In addition, the simulation predicts the glass bending of the display.

Shape optimization was performed to obtain the precise shape of cutouts including the internal shape of cutouts in laminated composite plates by three dimensional modeling using solid element. The volume control of the growth-strain method was implemented and the distributed parameter chosen as Tsai-Hill fracture index for shape optimization. The volume control of the growth-strain method makes Tsai-Hill failure index at each element uniform in laminated composites under the initial volume. Then shapes optimized by Tsai-Hill failure index were compared with those of the initial shapes for the various load conditions and cutouts. The following conclusions were obtained in this study. (1) It was found that growth-strain method was applied efficiently to shape optimization of three dimensional cutouts in a laminate composite, (2) The optimal shapes of the various load conditions and cutouts were obtained, (3) The maximum Tsal-Hill failure index was reduced up to 67% when shape optimization was peformed under the initial volume by volume control of growth-strain method.

The vacuum cleaner motor runs on very high speed for the suction power. Specially, the motive power is provided by the impeller being rotate on very high speed. And centrifugal fan consists of the impeller, the diffuser, and the circular casing. Due to the high rotating speed or the impeller and small gap distance between the impeller and diffuser, the centrifugal fan makes very high noise level at BPF and harmonic frequencies. In order to calculate the sound pressure of centrifugal fan, the unsteady flow data is needed. And Noise cause is dividing to fluid noise by exhaust flow of fan and vibration noise by rotational vibration of vacuum cleaner fan motor. Until now, measuring method has been used to measure vibration by the accelerometer; this method has been not measured for the vibration in some parts of brush and commutator because of motor construction and 3-D vibrating mode. This paper was purposed on the accurate analysis, using laser vibration analyzer,. By using this measured data of noise cause against the difficult part in old times, we would like to use for the design of silent fan motor.

In this study, we made a comparative study of backpropagation neural network and probabilistic neural network and bayesian classifier and perceptron as shape recognition algorithm of welding flaws. For this purpose, variables are applied the same to four algorithms. Here, feature variable is composed of time domain signal itself and frequency domain signal itself, Through this process, we confirmed advantages/disadvantages of four algorithms and identified application methods of few algorithms.

The process parameters were the grain size, the wheel speed, the depth of cut and the table speed. The effect of the process parameters on the geometric error was examined and an optimal set of the parameters was selected to minimize the geometric error within the controllable range of the used grinding machine. The reliability of the results was evaluated by the ANOVA.

As it is difficult to construct a micro-fluidic system composed of micro-mixers, micro-channels and/or micro-chambers in a single process, an assembly process is typically used. The assembling and bonding of micro-parts, however, introduces other problems. In this work, a virtual assembly process was developed that can be used to design various micro-fluidic systems before actual fabrication commences. In the process, the information required for the micro-stereolithography process is generated automatically. Consequently, complex micro-fluidic systems can be fabricated in a single process, thereby avoiding the need for additional assembly or bonding processes. Using the developed process, several examples were fabricated.

In this paper, we developed a Windows XP version off-line programming system which can simulate a track vehicle model in 3D graphics space. The track vehicle was adopted as an objective model. The interface between users and the off-line program system in the Windows XP's graphic user interface environment was also studied. The developing language is Microsoft Visual C++. Graphic libraries, OpenGL, by Silicon Graphics, Inc. were utilized for 3D Graphics.

This paper deals with a prediction method of tool life in view of the reliability assessment. In this study, the flank wear was studied among multi-factors deciding the tool wear state. Firstly, tool lift was predicted by correlation between flank wear and cutting time, based on the extended Taylor tool life equation of turning data, including parameters of cutting speed, feed rate, and cutting depth. Secondly, each of cutting conditions of endmilling was equivalently converted to apply ball endmill data to the extended Taylor equation. The web-based reliability prediction program for tool lift is being developed as one of reliability assessment programs to for the machine tools.

Finish machining of a curved surface is often carried out by an NC system with curved interpolation in a high speed machining strategies. This study aims to develop the NURBS interpolator for the PC-NC based machine tools. In the case of a finish cut using a ball-end mill in high speed machining, low machinability at the bottom of a tool produces a harmful effect on surface roughness. The developed interpolator considers the relation between inclined angle, surface roughness, and feed rate, and adjusts real-time feed rate in order to generate surfaces which have isotropic surface roughness. The proposed interpolator is fully implemented and an experimental results are shown.

This paper proposes Internet-based checking scheme for machine-tools with a variant CNC. Checking points defined in this research are classified into two categories such as structured point and operational point. The formal includes the vibration of bearing, temperature of spindle unit and another periodical management. And the latter includes oil checking, clamp locking/unlocking and machining on/off status. Through this research, for the global management of variant CNC machines interspersed with CAC and OAC in manufacturing system, the suitable environment for Internet-based checking of variant CNC machines was designed and the checking methods for CAC and OAC machines were compared with each other.

KS and ISO have proposed several evaluation methods of conventional machine tools. Even though the accuracy of the tools can be evaluated with those methods, there are still no proper evaluation methods of high speed machining. Because it is hard to evaluate characteristics of high speed machining such as decrease of cutting temperature, cutting force, and reduced machining time. Therefore, new evaluation method for high speed machine should be developed. In this paper, several shapes of model have been proposed to evaluate cutting accuracy of high speed machine.

In addition, numerical models using finite element method are established, which are confirmed by experimental results. Due to various advantages over the conventional linear motion device such as ball-screw, linear motors have been used in wide variety of industrial applications for years. Driven by increased demand for precision machine tools, the importance of high positioning accuracy, high stiffness and high thrust are greatly increasing. There was not the evident analysis about the cutting process of CNC machining, and wouldn't be difficult to estimate the result of machining for the various cutting conditions. Therefore they were not founded the systemic technology about the optimum cutting conditions and selection of cutting tools. So this study have investigated the common facts for needs through the end-mill cutting machining by Machining-Centers or High-speed cutting machines, and developed the user-centered intelligent decision system to selection of the methodology about cutting conditions to improve the machining efficiency of end-mill cutting process.

A high-speed and intelligent CNC system has been developed by Turbotek Co., Ltd. This paper presents the study for commercialization of the developed CNC system. In order to acquire stability and reliability of the developed CNC system, its hardwares and softwares ate improved. The CNC main unit is revised to a compact box-type CNC controller. Moreover, the integrated CNC main unit that has built-in and expandable I/O modules is also developed. Remote monitoring, fault diagnosis End NURBS interpolation functions are realized on the CNC system as software modules. Through these efforts, the developed CNC system can be loaded on machine tools successfully.

The Advantages of hot machining are the reduction of cutting forces, tool wear, and the increase of material removal rates. In this study, a hot-machining using gas flame heating characteristics of milling by CBN tip was analyzed, and the influence of the surface temperature and the depth of cut on the tool life were investigated. The results show that hot machining of tungsten carbide-alloyed is more effective than conventional machining. In addition, some advantages obtained from hot machining, such as decrease of tool wear and cutting force, high surface quality.

This paper presents an accurate cutting simulation and feedrate scheduling system for CNC machining. This system is composed of a cutting simulation part and a feedrate scheduling part. The cutting simulation part computes the geometric informations and calculates the cutting forces in CNC machining. The cutting force model using cutting-condition-independent coefficients was introduced for flat end milling and ball end milling. The feedrate scheduling part divides original blocks of NC code into smaller ones with optimized feedrates to adjust the peak value of cutting forces to reference forces. Some machining examples show that the developed system can control the cutting force at desired levels.

This paper is to develop an optical ruer displacement sensor for monitoring high speed spindle. Proper magnitude of optical power as well as amplification of output signal are necessary to improve sensitivity of the sensor. In this paper, to meet the need of improvement of the sensor resolution, we choose proper optical power and amplification level through speculating on optical power of a laser diode.

A flexible disk grinding system process has been introduced that utilized varying disk orientation with respect to workpiece along with the applied feed speed. A known process model methodologies has been used to fomulate processed surface profiles. Various process conditions including cutting speed, maximum feed speed and orientation angles could applied to observe process outcomes. Even though continuous and constant feed speed has been applied to the process, the results from the trapezoidal input velocity profiles would be observed and compared. Based on the control strategies including neural network methodologies, several output results were compared to find the optimum process condition.

General purpose of cylindrical capacitive displacement sensor(CCS) is measuring run-out motion and deflection of rotor. If CCS has narrow sensing range, its sensitivity coefficients must be calibrated precisely. And x, y component of CCS output can be coupled. In this research, CCS calibration procedure is automated with automatic calibration program and PC-controlled stage. And, coupled-terms of CCS signals were removed and the errors between measured position and mapped CCS signal were reduced obviously by sensitivity matrix that linearly.

The demand of high speed machining is increasing because the high speed cutting providers high efficiency of process, short process time, improved metal removal capacity and better surface finish. Active magnetic bearings allow much high surface speed than conventional ball bearings and therefore greatly suitable for high speed cutting. The automatic control concept of magnetic bearing system provides ability of intelligent control of spindle system to increase accuracy and flexibility by means of adaptive vibration control. This paper describes a design and development of a milling spindle system which includes built-in motor with power 5.5㎾ and maximum speed 70,000rpm, HSK-32C tool holer and active magnetic bearing system. Magnetic actuators are designed for satisfying static load condition. The Performances of manufactured spindle system was examined for its static and dynamic stiffness, load capacity, and rotational accuracy. This spindle was run up to 70,000 rpm stably, which is 3.5 million DmN.

To maximize the productivity in machining molds and dies, machine tools should operate at high speeds. During the high speed operation of moving frames or spindles, vibration problems are apt to occur if the machine tool structures are made of conventional steel materials with inferior damping characteristics. However, self-excited vibration or chatter is bound to occur during high speed machining when cutting speed exceeds the stability limit of machine tool. Chatter is undesirable because of its adverse effect on surface finish, machining accuracy, and tool life. Furthermore, chatter is a major cause of reducing production rate because, if no remedy can be found, metal removal rates have to be lowered until vibration-free performances is obtained. Also, the resonant vibration of machine tools frequently occurs when operating frequency approaches one of their natural frequencies because machine tools have several natural frequencies due to their many continuous structural elements. However, these vibration problems are closely related to damping characteristics of machine tool structures. The polymer concrete has high potential for machine tool bed due to its good damping characteristics with moderate stiffness. This paper presents the use of polymer concrete and sandwich structures to overcome vibration problems. Also, co-cure bonding method for functional part mounting was exhibited experimentally, by which manufacturing time and cost for polymer concrete bed will be remarkably reduced.

Heavy-weight head slides may cause excessive inertia impact & moment on the machine tool structure when they move or stop abruptly during operation. Consequently these inertia impact and unbalanced moment bring transient vibrations and rough sliding motions on the machine structure. Machine tool engineers have tried many kind of feed-slide designs in order to solve this problem; for example, the design optimization of the moving structure for minimum weight and maximum stiffness, box-in-box type slide design, and so on. In this article, force and moment equilibrium equations regarding to the inertia force & moment were derived for each one of a mold M/C's head slides. Furthermore, five different design configurations of head slide assembly were reviewed for its design improvement regarding to force & moment calculations and finite element structural analysis results.

This paper presents the thermal characteristic analysis of a high-speed horizontal machining center with spindle speed of 50,000rpm and feedrate of 120m/fin. The spindle system is designed based on the built-in motor, angular contact ceramic ball bearings, oil-air lubrication and oil-jacket cooling method. The X-axis and Y-axis feeding systems are composed of the linear motors and linear motion guides, and the Z-axis feeding system is composed of the servo-motor, ball screw and linear motion guides. The thermal characteristics such as the temperature distribution, temperature rise, thermal deformation and step response, are estimated based on the finite element model of machining center and the heat generation rates of heat sources related to the machine operation conditions. Especially, the thermal time constant assessed from the step response function is introduced as an index of thermal response characteristics.

Among the optimization method, GA (genetic algorithm) is a very powerful searching method enough to compete with design sensitivity analysis method. GA is very easy to apply, since it dose not require any design sensitivity information. However, GA has been computationally not efficient due to huge repetitive computation. In this study, parallel computation is adopted to Improve computational efficiency, Paralleled GA is introduced on a clustered LINUX based personal computer system.

The important problem in high speed spindle is to reduce and minimize the thermal effect by motor and ball bearings. In this study. the effects of bearing preload and cooling for high speed spindle with high frequency motor are investigated. A high speed spindle is composed of angular contact ball bearings, high frequency motor, grease lubrication, oil jacket cooling, and so on. Heat generation of the bearing and the high frequency motor are estimated from the theoretical and experimental data. The thermal analyses of high speed spindle to minimize the thermal effect and maximize the cooling effect are carried out under the various cooling conditions and preload. Method of variable bearing preload and cooling can be useful to design the high speed motor spindle. The results show that the optimal preload and cooling are very effective to minimize the thermal displacement by motor and ball bearing.

Linear motor is very rapidly substituted for rotary motor and ball screw for precision positioning applications because of its characteristics such as high speed, no backlash and simplicities. A precision positioning system which is composed of linear motion(LM) guide and linear motor is widely used since it has easy controllable property but this system has low accuracy problem caused by friction of the LM guide. In this study, a scanning type XY stage is manufactured and some experiments is performed to improve the accuracy of the stage.

To obtain the ultra-sharp tungsten tip, an analog to digital converter circuit aided by a personal computer has been setup. At the moment the lower part of the needle drops off during the etching process, a maximum current change across the reference resistor is detected by the PC interface card and the applied voltage is then cut off within a few milliseconds. Out experiment has been able to fabricate an ultra-sharp tungsten tip ~200
$\AA$ radius with a higher reproduction rate and reliability than the conventional method. -
A capacitate sensor is a proper device for measuring high small displacement. General design parameters and procedure are discussed and a test sensor was built to have a measuring range of 100
$\mu\textrm{m}$ and a sensitivity about 30nm. This sensor has too opposing electrode of comparably large area and has nominal gap distance about 150$\mu\textrm{m}$ . So as to achieve a nano order displacement sensitivity, both sensor and target system have to be considered. This is important for the sensitivity can be achieved by minimizing a system total noise level in electronic type sensor application. Typical performance of the developed sensor is demonstrated in precision moving stage having 0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$ moving resolution. -

This study presents the combined effect of electric Held application and mechanical compressive stress loading on deformation in a multilayer ceramic actuator, designed with stacking alternatively 0.2(PbMn
$\_$ 1/3/Nb$\_$ 2/3/O$_3$ )-0.8(PbZr$\_$ 0.475/Ti$\_$ 0.525/O$_3$ ) ceramics and Ag-Pd electrode. The deformation behaviors were thought to be attributed to relative 180$^{\circ}$ domain quantities which is determined by pre-loaded stress and electric field. The non-linearity of piezoelectricity and strain are dependent upon the young's modulus resulting from the domain reorientation. -
The application of focused ion beam (FIB) technology in micro/nano machining has become increasingly popular. Its use in micro/nano machining has advantages over contemporary photolithography or other micro/nano machining technologies, such as small feature resolution, the ability to process without masks and being accommodating for a variety of materials and geometries. This paper presents that the recent development and our research goals in FIB nano machining technology are given. The emphasis will be on direct milling, or chemical vapor deposition techniques (CVD), and this can distinguish the FIB technology from the contemporary photolithography process and provide a vital alternative to it. After an introduction to the technology and its FIB principles, the recent developments in using milling or deposition techniques for making various high-quality devices and high-precision components at the micro/nano meter scale are examined and discussed. Finally, conclusions are presented to summarize the recent work and to suggest the areas for improving the FIB milling technology and for studying our future research.

마이크로 사이즈 공음극 플라즈마 전극에 대한 제작 및 방전 실험을 진행하였다. 방전 전극은 200~500 um의 hole 형상을 제작하였으며 70~850 torr He 분위기에서 방전 실험하였다. 실험 샘플은 막힌 공음극 형상과, 관통된 공음극 두가지 형상을 실험하였다. 마이크로 공음극 플라즈마의 공음극 크기에 따른 결과에서 사이즈가 작을수록 총 전류 값은 낮아지나, 전류 밀도는 증가하였다. 막힌 공음극에서는 양저항 특성을, 관통된 공음극에서는 부저항 결과를 얻었다.

There is great difficulty in machine below 10 micrometers by conventional machining methods, such as micro-EDM. However, ultra micro machining using focused ion beam(FIB) is able to machine to 50 nanometers. Bie & moulds techniques are better than one-to-one machining techniques in regards to production costs in the mass production of ultra size structures. Also, it is advantageous to machine die & moulds to the 10 micrometers level by FIB technique rather than other techniques. It is difficult to machine the three dimensional machining, such as micro lens, using FIB system because of their machining characteristics. In this paper, three dimensional machining techniques were properly introduced, and also experiments showed effectiveness of their techniques.

A ion source using inductively coupled plasma has been tested in order to test its feasibility as a high brightness ion source for focused ion beam. When operating the ion source with filter magentas in front of plasma electrode for a negative ion source, lower remittances are expected. Extracted beam remittances are measured with an Allison-type scanning device for various plasma parameters and extraction conditions. The normalized omittance has been measured to be around 0.2
$\pi$ mmmrad with beam currents of up to 0.55 ㎃. In particular, noting that multicusp magnets have a role in decreasing the remittance as well as increasing plasma discharge efficiency, transverse magnetic field has been confirmed to be a useful tool fur decreasing remittance via electron energy control. -
본 연구에서는 금속 원자를 단열 팽창시켜 클러스터를 만들고, 생성된 클러스터를 이온화시킨 후 집속렌즈 및 electric quadrupole을 이용하여 기판으로 증착 하였다. 집속렌즈의 설계에서는 단일 초점 방식의 렌즈보다 성능을 높이기 위하여 이중 초점과 핀홀을 써서 집속 효과 및 효율을 높였다. 렌즈의 설계는 일반적으로 하전입자의 에너지 손실 없이 집속할수 있는 Einzel 렌즈를 기본으로 하였으며, SIMION software 를 사용하여 시뮬레이션 하였다. 시뮬레이션 후 실제 렌즈계 및 정전압원을 제작하여 금(Au)의 클러스터를 생성하여 렌즈계를 통과한 후 실제 기판위로 증착이 되는 것을 AFM(Atomic force microscopy)과 XPS(X-ray photoemission spectroscopy)를 이용해 조사하여 렌즈계가 실제로 동작함을 확인하였다.

Previous studies on the liquid Gallium ion sources used an electro-chemically etched tungsten wire with a coil-type heater. Such a structure requires excessive power consumption in the course of heating the liquid metal. In this work, a new structure is proposed that replaces the coil-type heater. It uses a Gallium reservoir made of six pre-etched 250
$\mu\textrm{m}$ tungsten wires that surround the needle electrode. Gallium loading at the reservoir is observed to be much more stable, resulting in an improved beam stability. -
An ultra-sharp tungsten electrode for field emission was manufactured by using an electrochemical etching method, and its beam characteristics were investigated. KOH and NaOH were the electrolytes used in this research, and the taper length of the tip varied form 150
$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 250$\mu\textrm{m}$ according to the applied voltage and the concentration of the electrolyte. The electron-beam stability was measured to be within 5% for a total emission current of 5${\mu}\textrm{A}$ during 4 hours of operation, and the Ignition voltages were found to be ∼300 V. The tip radius was experimentally found to be 250${\AA}$ from a linear fitting of Fowler-Nordheim plots, which was in remarkably good agreement with that of the image size from scanning ion-microscopy. -
The nature of the signals collected by an SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) in order to form images are all dependent on the detector used to collect them, and the quality of an acquired image is strongly influenced by detector performance. Therefore, the development of detector with high performance is very important in pulling up the resolution of SEM. In this article, electron beam-specimen interactions, the detection principle of secondary electrons and backscattered electrons, and the structure of a conventional detector are described. The structure of an experimental apparatus for the future study on our hopeful novel electron detector is presented as well.

PLGA was suggested. Under various conditions, their diameters and porosity as well as mechanical strength were evaluated. In addition to those, cell(chondrocyte) proliferation and formation of extracelluar matrices were also investigated along with the conventional membrane type PLGA scaffolds for the potential use in tissue engineering. As conclusions, this type of scaffold showed a potential of application to tissue engineering in view of mechanical stability as well as cellular responses.

Recently High precision positioning device is used in many kinds of manufacturing and scientific instruments. Piezoelectric transducer is applied to the positioning devive as actuator, PZT has a high resolution, however, moving range is short. Many researcher have developed the mechanism for increasing a motion range. The types of increasing motion range mechanism with PZT are inertial slider, friction driver, ultrasonic motor, etc. In this paper we discuss the review of the hish precision actuator mechanism with PZT. Many kinds of mechanism for high precision are shown and compared.

Development of a versatile nanomanipulation tool is an overarching theme in nanotechnology. Such a tool will likely revolutionize the field given that it will enable fabrication and operation of a wealth of interesting nanodevices. This study seeks funding to create a novel nanomanipulation system with the ultimate goal of using this system for nanomanufacturing at the molecular level. The proposed design differs from existing approaches. It is based on a nanoscale ion trap integrated to a scanning prove microscope (SPM) tip. In this design, molecules to be assembled will be ionized and collected in the nanoscale ion trap all in an ultra high vacuum (UHV) environment. Once filled with the molecular ions, the nanoscale ion trap-SPM tip will be moved on a substrate surface using scanning probe microscopy techniques. The molecular ions will be placed at their precise locations on the surface. By virtue of the SPM, the devices that are being nanomanufactured will be imaged in real time as the molecular assembly process is carried out. In the later stages, automation of arrays of these nanomanipulators will be developed.

We describe a method for the detection of nanometer scale displacements of nanoelectromechanical resonators. We also present an analysis of the mechanical motion of these devices. We evaluate the effectiveness of the detection technique by detecting displacements from a series of nanomechanical doubly clamped beam resonators with decreasing dimensions.
