본 연구는 공학 기초설계 교과목의 교수-학습 방법에 따른 수업 결과를 분석하고, 시사점을 도출하여 실제 기초 설계 수업에서 실행 가능한 효과적인 교수-학습 방법을 제안하는 것이다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 A대학교 공과대학 B프로그램 2학년 재학생 총 112명을 대상으로 동일한 교수자가 기초설계 교과목을 프로젝트 중심 수업과 문제 중심 수업으로 운영하여 두개 반의 수업 후 수업결과에 대한 전수조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 문제 중심 수업은 프로젝트 중심 수업에 비해 수업만족도, 교과목 학습성과 달성도, 학업성취도에서 높은 점수를 나타냈으며, 이러한 결과는 통계적으로 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과에 기초하여 실제 기초설계 수업에서 실행 가능한 효과적인 교수-학습 전략을 제안하였다.

The 7th National Education Process, implemented in 2004, features student-oriented, selective educational programs with a wide range of optional subjects. In 2005, reflecting this revised National Education Process, the College Scholastic Ability Test began allowing individual students to choose the subjects for examination they would like to take. As a result, the deviations of the college freshmen's academic achievements in some subjects have noticeably widened. This study shows academic abilities of the students on some subjects by comparing the results of 2008 College Scholastic Ability Test with that of the Basic Academic Ability Evaluation Test for freshmen in engineering college of Hongik university. Lastly, this paper presents some improvement plans in order to better accommodate students with academic achievement levels lower than what is expected by the university.

This study had a purpose to investigate elements of teamwork skill for engineering students. For this, literature review and delphi method were used. The delphi survey was conducted with 20 experts consisting of experts in engineering, education, and industry field. 22 elements of teamwork skill for engineering students were finally developed. Teamwork skill included knowledge, skill, and attitude for engineering students. Further, the results of this study present a guideline to develop teamwork skill in engineering education.

This paper examines the birth of civil engineers in the United States. Unlike the advanced some European countries such as Great Britain or France, as a new nation America had to import high-tech technologies from them. In the process of transplantation she had mixed up the civil engineering of British style with French's. As a result, the training of the civil engineers in America had developed in various ways.

This paper suggests a reinterpretation on Calvert's thesis of the conflict between "shop culture" and "school culture". Robert H. Thurston, who Calvert portraited as the proponent of school culture, was a man from shop culture and the shop culuture's old boy network was essential for Thurston's many achievements as an engineer and educater. This reinterpretation based on the narrowing the scope of the American mechanical engineers in the 19th century into those who shared and inherited the social recognition as the leading machinists from the social upper strata machinist such as the Stevens via machine tool makers of the mid century.

This paper examines the emergence of mechanical engineers in the technological and social context of professionalization in England. Despite their technological progress, most steam engine wrights and machine tool builders were individual workshop owners working to order in the early 19th century. In the 1830s and 1840s, however, the railway boom produced so called railway engineers by providing them with some managerial experience as the canal building did in civil engineering. Railway engineers played a dominant role to establish the Institute of Mechanical Engineers(IME) in 1848. It was IME that stated what is a mechanical engineer and helped its members be in the similitude of the civil engineers in social and technological activities.

This paper deals with the early history of the British civil engineers as a group in terms of where they originated from, how they emerged as a profession in the British society during the First Industrial Revolution, and when they began to be educated at the formal higher education institution. Eventually this paper intends to seek for something like a British style of civil engineering.

The role of the Polytechnician as state engineer in the making of modern engineering science in France has been well known. This article articulates the role of the civilian engineers and the two engineering schools producing those civilian engineers in the making of typically French engineering tradition, particularly in mechanical engineering. The mechanical engineers from Ecoles des Arts et M$\acute{e}$tiers and Ecole Central des Arts et Manufactures played a significant roles in the making of modern engineering sciences through their contributions to the making engineering as a theoretical sciences and to the mediation of the technicians and the managers in mechanical engineering.

The object of this study is to examine the process of the birth and transformation of civil engineering education as well as of modern civil engineers, called 'State noblesse', in the state engineer groups of France. For this, we will look into the background of founding the civil engineer corps and the civil engineering school, the transformation process of the civil engineering school into the applied school of Ecole Polytechnique, the activities of civil engineers in the industrialization process, and finally the organization and identity of the civil engineer group.

The Emergence of german mechanical engineer group is related to the development of polytechnical schools which were founded by the german state governments. Following the model of vienna polytechnical schools, the german polytechnical schools aimed also to educate engineers for private industries. For this purpose, the practices and workshop experiences were more emphasized than the theoretical education. With the further industrialization, the demand for higher educated engineers grew, and the level of theories taught in the polytechnical schools approached to that of university. On the base of mathematicalization of technical and mechanical knowledge, the professors of polytechnical schools succeeded in the establishment of Technische Hochschule which ranked as university. The german mechanical engineers could differentiate themselves from the traditional technicians with the establishment of polytech schools and Technische Hochschule.
