A small, highly-trained crew working on the ship's automation has contributed to the improvement of operation efficiency and the labor environment on board ship. However, at the same time, having a small crew adds more responsibility to the ship's officers to safely operate and manage the ship. Recently, development on the system to concentrate important information being scattered at the various pieces of navigational equipment has been actively studied, using information and computer technology. The purpose of this study is to set up and implement an integrated marine data networking and communication system on the training-research ship. Information relating to navigation, engine and office automation were investigated and analyzed, and implementation methods associated with navigation, engine and the management information system were designed and presented. In addition, the networking system and navigational signal interface unit for the integrated communication system, and the data communication method between the ship and land are also discussed.

Several roll motion reduction devices are reviewed and suggested for the application in FPSO. The firstly suggested solution is the shape of the bilge. The next is a bilge keel. The last suggestion is the ART (anti-rolling tank). Typical U-tube type ART is designed for a FPSO and examined extensively by model experiment. The model section was made of transparent acryl. Free decay test, forced oscillation test and wave test were carried out at a two-dimensional wave flume. U-tube type ART is effective only when the natural periods of ART and ship are same. Therefore, the divided U-tube type ART with split plate is suggested for the reduction of the roll motion of a FPSO over the wide range of the roll period.

This paper describes basic structural design for the large floating crane barge of fixed undulation type. Structural analysis is performed to divide two parts because crane barge is composed two parts, crane part of jib boom back stay and back tower and barge part to support crane part. The structural strength for jib boom structure members are in compliance with JIS B 8821 and scantling of all barge structural members are in compliance with the requirement of KR (Korean Register of Shipping) Steel Barges and Rules for Classification of Steel Ships. For the structural analysis of large floating crane, MSC/NASTRAN & MSC/PATRAN software is used.

In this paper, the task-oriented optimal configuration in the sense of Velocity and Force manipulability measure of manipulator mounted on ROV is considered. Manipulability is a quantitative measure of manipulator's capability obtained under the limits of joint velocities or torques. The base arrangements and optimal joint configuration of manipulator, that maximize the manipulability measure under the constraints of given task, are investigated. With the two types of base arrangements of manipulator, workspace analysis is carried out to investigate merits and demerits of each arrangement on the view of manipulability measure. To find optimal joint configuration for a given task with each arrangement, the SQP(Sequential Quadratic Programming) optimization are performed. Weighted linear combination of velocity and force manipulability measure is object function for SQP optimization. The kinematic parameters of Dual Orion manipulator which will be mounted on KORDI ROV are used for simulation.

In this study, the configuration and tension of a towing cable for side-scan sonar are predicted in an ambient flow and at an unsteady towing condition. The governing equation of three-dimensional dynamic analysis for a flexible cable is solved using a finite difference method. We successfully predict the configuration and tension of a side-scan sonar and designed the towing system. It is found in static analyses that the side-scan sonar must be towed to keep a its stable depth at a reasonable speed. The study also reveals in the transient analyses that the dominant component affecting the top tension is the tangential drag force for the larger towing speed than the critical speed, and the self weight of a towed instrument for the smaller towing speed than. It should be maneuvered for a towing vessel with good consideration for the impact effect in a cable due to tension peak when a towing speed is suddenly increase. The developed program can be applicable for three-dimensional dynamic analysis of a towing system for various marine survey instruments.

In this paper an effort is made to develop an innovative spatial arrangement concept pertaining to ship building industry. The spatial scheduling is the problem that concentrates on effective planning of available space and arrangements of blocks and in a priority manner. In order to create an effective spatial scheduling. a database providing the priority has to be available to make the erection sequence. Such a system works hand in hand with erection sequence generator program The erection sequence program works on the conventional network analysis method which uses a typical parent-children idea for the calculation of the ENT(possible earliest network start time) and LNT(possible latest network start time). This program works in a cyclic manner taking turns by calculating the ENT in upward trace and LNT on the return trace thereby generating the entire erection sequence diagram for the requisite problem The generated database serves as an input data for spatial scheduling problem. When the system works it takes into consideration the entire system based on heuristic concepts as mentioned. There system uses the spatial aspects such as the available area of the P. E area and plan area of the corresponding blocks and its priority of erection from the erection sequence generator program develops the spatial scheduling arrangement. In this paper using all these concepts an innovative spatial schedule development system developed.

Many port states such as New Zealand, the USA, Australia and Canada have strict regulations to prevent ships which arrive in their port from discharging polluted ballast water which contain harmful aquatic organism and pathogens. They are notified that transfer of polluted ballast water can cause serious injury to public health and damage to property and environment. For this reason, they perceived that the ballast exchange in deep sea is the most effective method, together with submitting the ballast management plan which contains the effective exchange method, ballast system and safety consideration. In this study, we pursued both nautical engineering analysis and optimization of algorithm in order to generate the sequence of stability and rapidity. Heuristic Algorithm was chosen on the basis of optimality and applicability to a sequential exchange problem. We have built an optimized algorithm, for automatic exchange of ballast water, by redefining core elements of the
$A^\ast$ algorithm, such as node, operator and evaluation function. Final version of the optimized algorithm has been applied to existing bulk carrier and the performance of the algorithm has been verified successfully. -
For the preliminary stages of ship design it is necessary to develop a basic design, which specifies the main particulars of the vessel. based on the requirements given by the owner. An efficient design enables the shipyard to make a rough estimate of the construction costs and to put forward a favourable quote during the call for tenders. The parametric determination of the main particulars of the vessel involves the application of empirical formulae. These formulae have been created after detailed tests and research by maritime research institutions and researchers had been carried out. Here, the design of a medium sized Bulk Carrier (26000t dwt) with a service speed of 17 knots for carrying rice and rock phosphate has been illustrated. Medium sized Bulk Carriers (25,000t dwt - 50,000t dwt) are in steady demand among small shipping companies. They have a size advantage, in that port size restrictions do not affect their design tremendously. Nevertheless, structurally. they are one of the most difficult to build. During design, the rules of the maritime regulatory bodies were strictly adhered to.

Initial hull form of 10 G/T and 40 knots class coastal patrol boat is newly developed. The resistance performances are experimentally and numerically investigated by model test at high speed circulating water channel(CWC) and CFD technique. The effect of a fin attached at hull side and initial trim are studied together. Wave patterns are observed to make clear the relation between the resistance performance and the wave characteristics. it can be found that the initial trim plays a role to increase the resistance performance above a certain velocity.

The paper presents a summary of the multidisciplinary/optimization method for the preliminary design of container feeder vessel. The current scenario in the ship building industry highly focuses on container ship design and construction proving the inherent demand in maritime industry. The design accomplishes the outer circle of the design spiral giving stress in areas of Hull Form Design, Resistance & Propulsion. Empirical relations, model test results, data from built ships, class rules and latest market demands stood as the criteria for the design. Optimization of the design as per the owners requirement. class rules, and the trade route selected are the major challenges met with. Strength. reliability, structural safety and stability have been incorporated in compromising standards.

Ail of the world, unification and extension of market enlarged scale of international commerce. Thus, not only production but also circulation of goods is brought into relief and transportation of most freights is performed using container. Container vessels are equipped with marry kinds of securing equipments such as Lashing, twistlock. Lashing is installed mainly in container vessel for the container stack with more than 3 containers. Damage of containers often arise from irrelevant lashing arrangement and bring economical loss. Much time and cost is requested for the Calculation of forces on container and determination of lashing arrangement In this study, We developed lashing analysis simulator which performs calculation and presenst relevant lashing arrangement. It will provide more convenient and efficient environment for lashing analysis.

In the ship building industry various problems of erection is counterfeited due to formation of bottle necks in the block erection flow pattern This kind of problems cause accumulated problems in real-time erection right on the floor, When such a problem is approached, a support data of the entire erection sequence should be available, Here planning is done by reasoning about the future events in order to verify the existence of a reasonable series of actions to accomplish a goal. This technique helps in achieving benefits like handling search complications, in resolving goal conflicts and anticipation of bottleneck formation well in advance to take necessary countermeasures and boosts the decision support system, The data is being evaluated and an anticipatory function is to be developed This function is quite relevant in day to day planning operation. The system updates database with rearrangement of off-critical blocks in the erection sequence diagram, As a result of such a system, planners can foresee months ahead and can effectively make decisions regarding the control of loads on the man, machine and work flow pattern, culminating to an efficient load management. Such a foreseeing concept helps us in eliminating backtracking related adjustment which is less efficient compared to the look-ahead concept. An attempt is made to develop a computer program to update the database of block arrangement pattern based on heuristic formulation.

In this paper, theoretical basis of stereoscopic display is investigated and programmed to shaw the application which could be used in the Virtual Reality (VR), especially for ship design. Stereoscopic is based on the seperated view point of left and right eyes on the screen and making 3 dimensional image. There different stereoscopic methods such are red-blue, interlacing, side-by-side and above-below are imvestigated and implemente to shaw the simple ship model and inside of ship. To shaw the 3 dimensional view, OpenGL is used to make program by implementing the logic of stereoscopic. Simple models and ship design are implemented to survey the applicability of stereoscopic for ship design. The best way is to use two projectors to emit interlaced shape. It is expected to imply this technique in the VR application for ship design.

In any large heavy industry like that of ship building, there exist a lot of complications for the arrangement of building blocks optimally for the minimal space consumption. The major problem arises at yard because of laxity in space for arranging the building blocks of ship under construction. A standardized erection sequence diagram is generally available to provide the prioritised erection sequence. This erection sequence diagram serves as the frame work. In order to make a timely erection of the blocks a post plan has to be developed so that the blocks lie in the nearest possible vicinity of the material handling devices while keeping the priority of erection. Therefore, the blocks are arranged in the pre-erection area. This kind of readiness of blocks leads to a very complex problem of space. This arises due to the least available space leading to an urgent need of an availability of intelligent spatial schedule without compromising the rate of production. There exists two critical problems ahead namely, the spatial occupation layout of pre-erection area and the emptying pattern in the spatial vicinity. The block shape is assumed be rectangular. The related input data's are the dates of erection (earliest as well as the latest), geometrical parameters of block available on pre-erection area, slack time and the like.

We surveyed the coastal structure damages due to the typhoon 'Mae-mi' which heavily struck Korean peninsula in September 12, 2003. The survey revealed the typhoon induced high tides and strong winds were the main causes especially in Busan areas. Though some experimental real time coastal monitoring stations captured the typhoon movements at the critical time, more systematic and complete systems should be implemented to save human lives and properties from huge typhoon disasters.

This study investigates the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics and relationships among water quality parameters, which based on 6 years' data(from 1989 to 1994) measured at 16 stations on Jinhae Bay. The results of these analysis, monthly variations range between surface and bottom layer of water quality had a tendency to increase and decrease, and appeared to be at the maximum value in August. The relationships between concentration of COD ana nutrients(DIN and DIP), which obtained by correlation analysis of water quality, were shown
$85\%$ and$74\%$ , respectively. Using the cluster analysis to develop the division of the sea basin by the dendrogram, before and after dredging of Masan bay and operating a sewage disposal plant, the variation characteristics of water quality of Jinhae Bay were discussed. Through it, we can see the serious pollution of northen sea basin of Jinhae Bay(B2) although dredging Masan bay and operating the sewage disposal plant. As the results, it doesn't appear the improvement effect of water quality in spite of carrying out the effort of water quality improvement. -
Ocean developments gradually move to deep-sea in the 21 century. A deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle is one of important tools for ocean resource survey. A marine cable plays an important role for the safe operation of a deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle. The first cable of a deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle is excited by surface vessel motion and shows non-linear dynamic behaviors. A numerical method is necessary for analysing the dynamic behaviour of the first marine cable. In this study, a numerical program is estabilished based on a finite difference method. The program is appled to a 6000m long cable for a deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle and shows good reasonable results.

This paper is intended as an investigation of the deposition characteristics and mass transport flux estimation in the Nakdong estuary. In order to understand the effects of the tidal current circulation which influenced to an estuary terrain change, the seawater circulation calculation by the use of 2D numerical model for the three cases of without riverflow, mean and flood riverflow quantity condition practiced and each sectional net-flux of water quantity between sandbars(so called, dung) estimated. It may be that an estuary terrain change due to the large scale construction and reclamation at the Nakdong estuary influence to the long-time deposition characteristics. by the revim for the old research, we know that the development of the local sandbars has been moved toward the east-side from the west-side estuary area after the construction of the Nakdong river dike, at present the strong-acted location is the Bakhap-dung of the front sea of Tadea. The seawater circulation pattern at this large scale area of tidal flat bring on a change due to the water quantity outflowing from the Nakdong river. Base on the calculated results for the section net-flux of water quantity, we see that the accumulating action very strong at the local sea around Jangjado, Bakhapdung and Tadae for the case of flood riverflow quantity condition, but at the local sea around Jinudo for the another cases. Consequently, it is emphasized that in the Nakdong estuary the main sensitive regions which influenced from the discharge of riverflow were the local sea around Jangjado, Bakhapdung, Tadae and Jinudo.

Pneumatic damping through a orifice type duct for OWC type wave energy device is studied experimentally. Forced oscillation tests are made to measure chamber pressure and velocity of air flaw through orifice. Pneumatic damping coefficient are deducted from the experimental research, and discussion are made far the influence of frequency, heave amplitude, and orifice size. Finally two formula are proposed for the estimation of non-dimensional pneumatic damping coefficient by regression analysis. The proposed formula proves to be a reliable method far practical application.

Using the DGPS of high precision take in a bouy, the wave-induced currents were observed by Lagrange method at Bonggile beach of the East Sea. At June, the northward wave-induced currents were dominated by the SSW waves. And the southward flaws were appeared at September and November. When 0.2-0.4m wave heights attacked the beach, the mean speed of the wave-induced currents was 0.15-0.3m/s at June and September, when the 1.0-1.6m wave heights incidented at November, that was about 0.3-0.6m/s. On the other hand, the observed results were compared with the simulated results which were solved by the 2-D model, WICU-DIVAST. It was showed the reasonable agreements.

최근 국내외에서 국제무역 물량의 증대에 따라 대규모 항만 건설 공사가 진행되고 있으며, 이에 경제성, 시공성이 뛰어난 Caisson 형식의 구조물이 많이 사용되어지고 있다. 특히 항만 및 어항의 외곽시설인 방파제는 계류선박의 안전과 하역 및 적화를 용이하게 하는 중요한 구조물이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 Caisson식 방파제에 태풍, 충격력과 같은 몇 가지 외력 조건에 대하여 구조 해석을 실시하여 손상메커니즘을 분석하였다 이러한 손상 메커니즘에 따라 손상을 인위적으로 발생시켜 손상 위치 탐색을 수행하였다.

In this paper, a performance characteristic pump and motor is investigated. The hydraulic pump and motor are axial piston type with swash plate. Proportional control valve which can control that plate is an important component for its performance characteristics. We will show the control characteristics for them Experiment results show that behavior can be shown with changing the various parameters.

Research for deposits in Nakdong eatuary that research about Nakdong eatuary's sediment flows out in Nakdong-kang so far had been progressed but research about deposits that is flowed in open sea is insufficient. Observed Nakdong eatuary's characteristic of sediment transfer through observation during the second during Buteo 20 days on February 6, 2004 in this research Resuspension bed load Flux appeared high the first result St.4 point and St.5 point. St.4 branch had much bed load amount that is flowed in the east, and bed load that St.5 branch is flowed in the south appeared much Tendency such as the first showed in the second result, but compare with the first result and St.5 branch had much bed load that is transfer in end. Bed load that is transfer in observation result Nakdong river was less. As this, can know that amount of sediment that is transfer in open sea more than deposits that is transfer in Nakdong river is much Is expected to exert effect that deposits that is transfer in open sea is high in Nakdong estuary's topography change. Specially, observation result is expected that Nakdong estuary's deposition tendency becomes Jinwoodo southern and Shinho southern.

The Spar platform with deep draft is characterized as effective structure in extreme wave condition, which has larger natural period than that of waves in sea. In this paper, the time simulation of motion responses of Spar with catenary mooring line is presented in irregular waves. The memory effect is modeled by added mass at infinite frequency and convolution integrals in terms of wave damping coefficients. The added mass, wave damping coefficients and wave exciting forces are obtained from three-dimensional panel method in the frequency domain. The motion equations are consisted of forces for inetia, memory effect, hydrostatic restoring, wave exciting and mooring line. The forces of mooring line are modeled as quasi-static catenary cable.

This paper presents the results of the structural analysis and optimal design of frames of the UUV(Unmanned Underwater vehicle) to be operated at 6000m depth in the ocean. The structure of the UUV system can be classified into two structure, Launcher ana ROV. Frame of the launcher will be made by Galvanized Steel which has high strength and corrosion-resistant but this material has high specific gravity for tile object to be weight in the water Similarly, ROV will be made by AI6061-T6, and frame of the ROV will be fix many instruments and syntactic buoyancy materials. Before fabrication of tile frame, we performed sensitivity analysis - change in weight due to
$\pm1\%$ change in design variables, for easy choice by change of dimension of the frame. -
To establish the design criteria for construction of the rubble mound on improved ground, two kinds of analyses for the soil deformation behavior and the slope stability were performed on various cases for rubble mounds, soft grounds and back fills with application of the finite element method and the Bishop simplified method. The horizontal displacements and settlements at the crest of rubble mounds were analyzed as a function of the safety factor of embankments. The analyzed result shows that the soil movement increases considerably when the safety factor of rubble mounds is lower than 1.3.

Deep ocean water is located in the sea deeper than 200m. At such depth the solar light does not reach, photosynthesis is not performed and nutrition salt is not consumed. Therefore, campared with surface water, Deep Sea Water contains more nutrition salt, such as nitrogen and phosphor. Moreover, it has the good balance of minerals. This Research is primary attempt for apply deep sea water to food industry. New type of mineral salt manufacturing system was developed and high levels of Ca, K, Mg detected from the salt analysis.

In order to consider statistical properties of probability variables used in the structural analysis, the conventional approach using the safety factor based on past experience usually estimated the safety of a structure. Also, the real structures could only be analyzed with the error in estimation of loads, material characters and the dimensions of the members. But the errors should be considered systematically in the structural analysis. In this paper, we estimated the probability of failure of the pressure vessel. And also, this paper presents sensitivity values of the random variable. Finally, we show that reliability index and probability of failure can present the tolerance limit of dimension of randam variables.

This paper describes a real-time control architecture for DUSAUV (Dual Use Semi-Autonomous Underwater Vehicle), which has been developed at Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO), KORDI, for being a test-bed oj development of technologies for underwater navigation and manipulator operation. DUSAUV has three built-in computers, seven thrusters for 6 degree of freedom motion control, one 4-function electric manipulator, one pan/tilt unit for camera, one ballasting motor, built-in power source, and various sensors such as IMU, DVL, sonar, and so on. A supervisor control system for GUI and manipulator operation is mounted on the surface vessel and communicates with vehicle through a fiber optic link. Furthermore, QNX, one of real-time operating system, is ported on the built-in control and navigation computers of vehicle for real-time control purpose, while MicroSoft OS product is ported on the supervisor system for GUI programming convenience. A hierarchical control architecture which consist of three layers (application layer, real-time layer, and physical layer) has been developed for efficient control system of above complex underwater robotic system. The experimental results with implementation of the layered control architecture for various motion control of DUSAUV in a basin of KRISO is also provided.

This paper describes dynamic manipulability analysis of robotic arms moving in viscous fluid. The Manipulability is a functionality of manipulator system in a given configuration and under the limits of joint ability with respect to the tasks required to bt performed. To investigate the manipulability of underwater robotic arms, a modeling and analysis method are presented. The dynamic equation of motion of underwater manipulator is derived from the Lagrange - Euler equation considering with the hydraulic forces caused by added mass, buoyancy and hydraulic drag. The hydraulic drag term in the equation: is established as analytical form using Denavit - Hartenberg (D-H) link coordination of manipulator. Two analytical approaches based on Manipulability Ellipsoid are presented to visualize the manipulability of robotic arm moving in viscous fluid. The one is scaled ellipsoid which transforms the boundary of joint torque to acceleration boundary of end-effector by normalizing the torque in joint space while the other is shifted ellipsoid which depicts total acceleration boundary of end-effector by shifting the ellipsoid in work space. An analysis example of 2-link manipulator with proposed analysis scheme is presented to validate the method.

The Purpose of this study are to develop the simulation(Tank model, Rainfall-runoff model) for the estimation of wily river discharge and for evaluation of wily pollutant loads from the watersheds of the objected basin area. As apply this constructed Tank model to Nakdong river region, we evaluated the wily river discharge of Nakdong river from use-land conditions, precipitation and evaporation data of 3 years(from 1998 to 2000) and investigate the seasonal fluctuation of SS, COD, TN, TP inflowing into Nakdong river. The result shows that summer has high pollutant level than winter in seasonal characteristic and the down stream has high pollutant level than the upper stream. The annual average of SS, COD, TN, TP flawing in Nakdong river(Samranjin) was estimated each 691ton-COD/year, 1854.2ton-SS/year, 382.8ton-TN/year and 13.0ton- TP/year.

In two dimensional incompressible flaws, a preconditioning technique called Hierarchical Iterative Procedure(HIP) has been implemented on a SUPG finite element formulation. By using the SUPG formulation, one can escape from the LBB constraint and hence achieve an equal order formulation. In this paper, we increased the order of interpolation up to cubic. The conjugate gradient squared(CGS) method is used for the outer iteration, and the HIP for the preconditioning for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation. The hierarchical elements has been used to achieve a higher order accuracy in fluid flaw analyses, but a proper efficient iterative procedure for higher order finite element formulation has not been available so far. The numerical results by the present HIP for the lid driven cavity flaw showed the present procedure to be stable, very efficient and useful in flaw analyses in conjunction with hierarchical elements.

The effects of rotation on the unsteady laminar flow past a circular cylinder is numerically investigated in the present study. We obtained the numerical solutions for unsteady two-dimensional governing equation for the flow using two different numerical schemes. One is an accurate spectral method and another is finite volume method. Above all, the flow around a stationary circular cylinder is investigated to understand the basic phenomenon of flow separation, bluff body wake. Also, the validation of our own codes, expecially based on FVM, is carried out by the comparison of results obtained from our simulations using two different schemes and previous numerical and experimental studies. By the effect of rotation, the mean lift increases and drag deceases, which well represent the previous study.

A Typhoon wave is generated by wind fields during the Passage of Typhoon. Transporting wind field makes wind wave and swell in the open sea, and then, those wave components are transported in the shallow water. Typhoon waves in the shallow water is generated by Typhoon wind field and incident wave. Bisides, Incident waves to the shallow water are deformated by topographic conditions. This paper estimated the analysis of the Typhoon waves by wind fields and incident waves according to wave action balance equation model. As the result of wave numerical experiment, wave field during the passage of Typhoon 'Memi' in the shallow water is strongly effect by wind fields. Wave action balance equaion can be partially used for Typhoon wave simulations.

This paper deals with the performance analysis of impulse turbine for owe type wave energy conversion device. Numerical analysis was performed using a commercially-available software FLUENT. This parametric study includes the variation of the setting angle of guide vane. Since parametric study at various flaw coefficients requires tremendous amounts of computing time, two-dimensional cascade flaw approximation was employed to find out optimum principal particulars in rather simple manner. Full three-dimensional calculation was also performed for several cases to confirm the validity of two-dimensional approach. Results were compared to other experimental data, for instance Setoguchi et al (2001)'s extensive set of data, and found to be well demonstrating the usefulness of 2-D analysis. Advantages and disadvantages of each method were also evaluated.

In general, the salient features if the floating breakwater have excellent regulation of sea-water keeping the marine a1ways clean, up and dorm free movement with the incoming and outgoing tides, capable of being installed without considering the geological condition of sea-bed at any water depth, This study discusses the three dimensional wave transformation of the floating breakwater moored by catenary. Numerical method is based at the Green function method and eigenfunction expansion method. The validity of the present is confirmed by comparing it with the result of Ijima et a1.(1975) fer tensile maxed floating breakwater. According to the numerical results, drift and width of the floating breakwater affect at the wave transformation greatly, and incident wave of long period is well transmitted to the rear of the floating breakwater.

KRISO/KORDI is currently developing a deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) system which is composed of a launcher, an ROV, and an AUV. Two USBL acoustic positioning systems will be used for UUV's navigation. One is for the deep sea positioning of all three vehicles and the other is for AUV's guidance to the docking device on the launcher. In order to increase the position accuracy MFSK(Multiple Frequency Shift Keying) broadband signal will be used. As the first step to the implementation of a USBL system, this paper studies USBL positioning algorithm using MFSK signals. Firstly, the characteristics of MFSK signal is described with various MFSK parameters: number of frequencies, frequency step, center frequency, and pulse length. Time and phase delays between two received signals are estimated by using cross-correlation and cross-spectrum methods. Finally an USBL positioning algorithm is derived by converting the delays to difference of distances and applying trigonometry. The simulation results show that the position accuracy is improved highly when both cross-correlation and cross-spectrum of MFSK signals are used simultaneously.

A series of preliminary model tests are performed to find out the wave attenuating effect of the pneumatic breakwater of environment friendly type, which is a bubble screen generated by releasing compressed air from a submerged multiple parallel manifold Rising bubbles induce vertical current, which produces horizontal currents flowing away from the bubble-screen area in both directions. Near bottom, the corresponding currents flow toward the bubble screen, thus completing the circulation pattern. The surface current moving against the direction of wave propagation causes some attenuation of the waves. It becomes more effective as the relative depth (d/ L) increases (short-period waves in deep water). With the same air-discharge, the multiple parallel manifold can be more effective for the attenuation of longer waves through optimum arrangement of manifold number. installation depth, manifold gap, etc. The pneumatic breakwater will give a wide utilization as a device for protecting harbor facilities and as a simple, mobile breakwater.

This paper presents a comparative study on numerical and wave-maker generated waves. The wave-makers employed to carry out the experiments have mathematical forms. The linear and quadratic models were tested. When it comes numerical analysis, the authors used the FLUENT which is widely used commercial code. Only two dimensional cases were considered. The experiments were done in a small wave flume. The waves were generated for various frequencies to examine the characteristics of the water waves. The comparison of the numerical and wave-maker generated waves were made.

A study on experimental method of the model test for the impulse turbine is carried out. the wave simulator is used to reproduce the real wave condition. It controls two parameter correspond to wave height and wave frequency. The optimum design which is reported by T. Setoguchi is manufactured and tested for the validation of our test facilities. The comparison of model test show that our facilities produce little bit higher efficiency at maximum efficiency point. To increase the efficiency of turbine, the new rotor with negative tip clearance is designed and being tested.

A simultaneous measurement system that can analyze the flaw-structure interactions has been developed This system consists of four CCD cameras, two for capturing instantaneous flaw fields and two for tracking a solid body. The three-dimensional vector fields around a cylinder are measured while the motion of the cylinder forced by the flow field is measured simultaneously with the constructed system The cylinder is pended in the working fluid of a water channel and the surface of the working fluid is forced sinusoidal to make the cylinder bounced Reynolds number for the mean main stream is about l000. The interaction between the flaw fields and the cylinder motion is examined quantitatively.

Red tide(harmful algae) in the Korean Coastal Waters has a given a great damage to the fishery every year. However, the aim of our study understands the influence of meteorological factors (air and water tempaerature, precipitation, sunshine, solar radiation, winds) relating to the mechanism of red tide occurrence and monitors red tide by satellite remote sensing, and analyzes the potential area for red tide occurrence by GIS. The meteorological factors have directly influenced on red tide formation. Thus, We want to predict and apply to red tide formation from statistical analyses on the relationships between red tide formation and meteorological factors. In future, it should be realized the near real time monitoring for red tide by the development of remote sensing technique and the construction of integrated model by the red tide information management system (the data base of red tide - meteorological informations).

Oceanographic observation and qualitative analysis for deep ocean water in the East Sea were carried out from January 2003 to January 2004, in order to understand the characteristics of deep sea water in the East Sea. Temporal and spatial variation of water masses were discussed from survey of the study area including the coastal sea of Kwangwon province in where the polar front mixing cold and warm water masses were formed. On the basis of the vertical profiles of temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen, water masses in the study area were divided into 5 major groups; (1) Low Saline Surface Water (LSSW) (2) Tsushima Surface water (TSW) (3) Tsushima Middle Water (TMW) (4) North Korea Cold Water (NKCW) and (5) East Sea Proper Water (ESPW). In winter, surface water in coastal sea of Kwangwaan Kosung region were dominated by North Korean Cold Water (NKCW). As Tsushima warm current were enforced in summer, various water masses were vertically emerged in study area, in order of TSW, TMW, NKCW and ESPW. It is highly possible that the LSSW which occurred at surface water of september is originated from influx of fresh water due to the seasonal rainy spell. Nevertheless water masses existed within surface water were seasonally varied, water quality characteristics of East Sea Proper Water (ESPW) under 300 m did not changed all the seasons of the year.

In this paper, one of the harbour maneuvering tests is described. Its goal is to investigate the so-called crabbing performance of ships. By crabbing is meant the ability of the vessel to move sideways with the use of her own maneuvering devices like propellers, rudders, transverse thruster, etc. the 3m ferry model is made by ocean engineering wide tank in the university of ulsan. when the model ship is leaving and going to the quay, Transverse forces and Yawing moments are measured, in the condition of zero longitudinal force and the design draught, by load cell attached to the longitudinal center of gravity on the ship. the purpose of the experiment is to verify the reliability of ocean wide tank in university of ulsan about crabbing test compared with results of foreign research institute.

본 연구에서는 낙동강 하구역 해역에서의 폭풍 해일의 특성 및 이를 고려한 외해 압사파랑특성을 고찰하고 연안사주 전면의 입사파랑과 퇴적 특성과의 상호 관계를 고찰하였으며 천해역의 파랑변형을 예측할 수 있는 다방향 불규칙파 묘형을 구성하고 폭풍 해일고를 수심조건에 고려함으로써 하구역 해역에서의 파랑 변형계산을 2차원 평면수치모의실험을 수행하였다. 낙동강 하구역에서 서측에 위치하는 진우도 전면해역이 무명도 전면해역보다 약 1.0배에서 2.0배 크게 파고분포를 나타내었다. 이는 입사하는 파랑의 공간 분포가 사주전면에서 공간적으로 차이가 남을 나타내는 것으로 사주의 퇴적작용에 영향을 줄 것이라고 판단된다.

The failure at the head section of rubble mound breakwaters is more important than other failure modes. because this initial failures will occur the failure of the trunk section and lead to the instability of the structure. The three-dimensional failure modes are discussed using the experimental data with multi-directional waves considering the failure modes. It was occurred by the topographical characteristics around the head of rubble mound breakwater. The spacial characteristics of failure mode around the rubble-mound structures can be summarized as follows: 1) It was clarified that the failure modes at the round head of a detached breakwater are classified as failure by plunging breaker on the slope, failure by direct incident wave force and failure at the rubble mound breakwaters. 2) The failure mode was found in the lower wave height than the design wave by the breaker depth effects and topography around structures. It is clarified that the structure was monitored safely designed for the design wave but the failure was occurred by the reason of breaker waves.

Prediction of green water loads acting an the bow deck is an essential part for the design of bow structures against the green water impact. Proper technique of the green water simulation is highly required for the prediction of green water loads. In this paper, a new numerical method for green water simulation, which is based an predictor-corrector-upwind finite difference scheme of the 2nd kind, is introduced. Through the comparisons between computed' results and experimental measurements, it is verified that the present numerical tool is adequate as a practical calculation tool for the green water problem.

Many of researches regarding mechanical properties of composite materials are associated with humid environment and temperature. Especially the temperature is a very important factor influencing the design of thermoplastic composites. However, the effect of temperature on impact behavior of reinforced composites have not yet been fully explored. An approach which predicts critical fracture toughness GIC was performed by the impact test in this work The main goal of this work is to study effects of temperature in the impact test with glass fiber/polypropylene(GF/pp) composites. The critical fracture energy and failure mechanisms of GF/PP composites are investigated in the temperature range of
$60^{\circ}C\;to\;-50^{\circ}C$ by impact test. The critical fracture energy shows a maximum at ambient temperature and it tends to decrease as temperature goes up or goes down. Major failure mechanisms can be classified such as fiber matrix debonding, fiber pull-out and/or delamination and matrix deformation. -
Fracture behaviors and strength of pipes with local wall thinning are very important Jar the integrity of energy plants. In pipes of energy plants, sometimes, the local wall thinning may result from severe erosion-corrosion damage. Recently, the effects of local wall thinning on strength and fracture behaviors of piping system have been well studied. In this paper, the elasto-plastic analysis is performed by FE code ANSIS. We evaluated the failure mode, fracture strength and fracture behavior from FE analysis.

Temperature Effect on Tensile Fracture Behavior of Thermoplastic Glass Fiber/Polyethylene CompositesThermosetting matrix composites have disadvantages in terms of moulding time, repairability and manufacturing cost. Thus the high-performance thermoplastic composites to eliminate such disadvantages have been developed so far. As a result of environmental and economical concerns, there is a growing interest in the use of thermoplastic composites. However, since their mechanical properties are very sensitive to the environment such as moisture, temperature etc., those behaviors need to be studied. Particularly the temperature is a very important factor influencing the mechanical behavior of thermoplastic composites. The effect of temperature have not yet been fully quantified. Since engineering applications of reinforced composites necessitate their fracture mechanics characterization, work is in progress to investigate the fracture and related failure behavior. An approach which predicts the tensile strength was perpormed in the tensile test. The main goal of this work is to study the effect of temperature on the result of tensile test with respect to GF/PE composite. The tensile strength and failure mechanisms of GF/PE composites were investigated in the temperature range
$60^{\circ}C\;to\;-50^{\circ}C$ . The tensile strength increased as the fiber volume fraction ratio increased. The tensile strength showed the maximum at$-50^{\circ}C$ , and it tended to decrease as the temperature increased from$-50^{\circ}C$ . The major failure mechanisms was classified into the fiber matrix debonding, the fiber pull-out, the delamination and the matrix deformation. -
Dissimilar friction welding were produced using 10mm and 11mm diameter solid bar in Inconel ally(IN X-750) to Stainless steel(STS316L) to investigate their mechanical properties. The main friction welding parameters were selected to endure good quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile tests, Virkers hardness surveys of the bond of area and HAZ and macro-structure investigations. The specimens were tested as welded, not heat-treated. The tensile strength of the friction welded steel bars was increased up to
$95\%$ of the STS316L base metal under the condition of all heating time. Optimal welding conditions were n=2,000(rpm),$P_1=220(MPa),\;P_2=260(MPa),\;t_1=4(s),\;t_2=4(s)$ when the total upset length is 7(mm). -
Strength Properties and Elastic Waves Characteristics of Silicon Carbide with Damage-Healing AbilityEngineering ceramics have superior heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. In the present study, we have been noticed some practically important points for the healing behavior of silicon nitride, alumina, mullite with SiC particle and whisker. The presence of silicon carbide (SiC) in ceramic compound is very important for crack-healing behavior. However, self-healing of SiC has not been investigated well in detail yet. In this study, commercial SiC was selected as sample, which can be anticipated in the excellent crack healing ability. The specimens were produced three-point bending specimen with a critical semi-circular crack of which size that is about
$50-700{\mu}m$ . Three-point bending test and static fatigue test were performed cracked and healed SiC specimens. A monotonic bending load was applied to cracked specimens by three-point loading at different temperature. Recently there has been a great world-wide interest in developing and characterizing new nano-structured materials. These newly developed materials are often prepared in limited quantities and shapes unsuitable for the extensive mechanical testing. The development of depth sensing indentation methods have introduced the advantage of load and depth measurement during the indentation cycle. In the present work, ZnO thin films are prepared on the Glass, GaAs(100), Si(111), and Si(100) substrates at different temperatures by pulsed laser deposition(PLD) method. Because the potential energy in c-axis is law, the films always shaw c-axis orientation at the optimized conditions in spite of the different substrates. Thin films are investigated by X-ray diffractometer and Nano indentation equipment. From these measurements it is possible to get elastic modulus and hardness of ZnO thin films on all substrates.

$Si_3N_4$ ] composites have been extensively studied for engineering ceramics, because it has excellent room and high temperature strength, wear resistance properties, good resistance to oxidation, and good thermal and chemical stability. In the present work, carbon short fiber reinforced$Si_3N_4$ ceramics were fabricated by hot press method in$N_2$ atmosphere at$1800^{\circ}C$ using$Al_2O_3\;and\;Y_2O_3$ as sintering additives. Content of carbon short fiber was$0\%,\;0.1\%\;and\;0.3\%$ . The composites were evaluated in terms of density, flexural strength and elastic modulus through the 3-point bending test at room temperature. Also, The wear behavior was determined by the pin on disk wear tester using silicon nitride ball. Experimental density and flexural strength decreased with increasing content of carbon fiber. But specific modulus increased with increasing content of carbon fiber. In addition, friction coefficient and specific wear loss decreased with increasing content of carbon short fiber by reason of interfacial defects between matrix and fiber. -

$200^{\circ}C$ to over$1090^{\circ}C$ , in combination with good law- and high temperature mechanical strength. Rencently, this material is also used widely in offshore processing piping in order to extend the maintenance tenn and improve the quality of anti-corrosion. In general, high quality weldments for this material are readily produced by commonly used processes. Not all processes are applicable to this material group, Ni-alloys. Metallurgiad characterictics or the unavailability of matching, position or suitable welding processes. Nowadays, the flux cored wire is developed and applied for the better productivity in several welding position including the vertical position. in this study, the weldability and weldment characteristics of inconel 625 are considered in FCAW weld associated with the several shielding gases($80\%Ar\;+\;20\%\;CO_2,\;50\%Ar\;+\;50\%\;CO_2,\;100\%\;CO_2$ ) in viewpoint of welding productivity. -
Above all Ni-alloys Inconel 625 is used widely in plate of welding structural materials such as turbine case, a combustor of liner. In general, weldability of Inconel 625 is not well because of poorly liquids of weld metal also it have a broken probability oj the welding crack. In case of FCAW weld process, it is not easy to develope of welding materials, because it is possible only fillet welding at view position of look down except for butt welding. But recently, though it is more used by FCAW process, owing to welding materials worked at the vertical position. the study for FCAW weld of Inconel 625 is actively not yet worked. In this study, the weldability and weld characteristics(mechanical characteristics, corrosive property) of Inconel 625 are considered in FC4W weld associated with the several shielding gases
$80\%Ar\;+\;20\%\;CO_2,\;50\%Ar\;+\;50\%\;CO_2,\;100\%\;CO_2$ in viewpoint of welding productivity. The results of impact test are follows; It was evaluated 70J at shielding gase of$100\%\;CO_2$ , and obtained about 35J at the other shielding gases. If it was used for parts be required the impact value at the extremely low temperature, it is expected to have the advantage of using the$100\%\;CO_2$ shield gase than the others. -
The objective of this study is to estimate the feasibility of acoustic emission method Jar the internal leak from the valves in nuclear power plants. The acoustic emission method was applied to the valves at the site, and the background noise was measured for the abnormal plant condition. From the comparison of background noise data with the experimental results as to relation between leak flow and acoustic signal, the minimum leak flow rates that am be detected by acoustic signal was suggested. When the background noise level are higher than the acoustic signal, the method described below was considered that the analysis the remainder among the background noise frequency spectrum and the acoustic signal spectrum.

In this study, the weldability and weldment characteristics(mechanical properties and corrosive environment) of Inconel 625 are considered in FCAW weld associated with the several weld shielding gases($80\%Ar\;+\;20\%\;CO_2,\;50\%Ar\;+\;50\%\;CO_2,\;100\%\;CO_2$ ) in viewpoint of welding productivity. -
Fatigue tests were carried out to find the fatigue characteristics in the super-long life range by using a cantilever type rotational bending fatigue test machine. Three kinds of specimen in bearing steels with the quenched and tempered in air (A and B, B: shot peened after heal treatment) and under vacuum conditions(C:non-shot peened)were tested in this study. S-N curves obtained from fatigue tests of C specimen tend to come dawn again in the super-long life range due to fish-eye type cracking, while most of A and B specimens fractured by surface defects such as scratches and slip lines. This duplex S-N behavior for the high strength steels have to be reviewed by the change of fracture modes.

The aim of this study is to prepare mixed Ni/Mg/Al/Cu/Ti powder in epoxy matrix with carbon fiber (NCF, MCF, ACF, CCF, TCF) conductive composite possessing eletromagnetic interference(EMI) shilding effectiveness(SE). A series if NCF/MCF/ACF/CCF/TCF composite were prepared by the hand lay up method. The various compositions of NCF/MCF/ACF/CCF/TCF were 10, 25, 50 percent by weight. The best EMI shilding effectiveness of all NCF/MCF/ACF is doout 40dB.

The efficiency of complex slurry preparation route for developing the high performance SiC matrix of RS-SiCf/SiC composites has been investigated. The green bodies for RS-SiC materials prior to the infiltration of nw/ten silicon were prepared with various C/SiC complex matrix slurries, which associated with both different sizes of starting SiC particles and blending ratios of starting SiC and carbon particles. The characterization of RS-SiC materials was examined by means of SEM, TEM, EDS and three point bending test. Based on the mechanical property-microstructure correlation, process optimization methodology is also discussed. The flexural strength of RS-SiC materials greatly depended on the content of residual Si. The decrease of starting SiC particle size in the C/SiC complex slurry was effective for improving the flexural strength of RS-SiC materials.

Beamforming for underwater acoustic communication is affected by the broadband feature of underwater acoustic communication signal, which has the low center frequency compared to the signal bandwidth. In this paper, the baseband equivalent array signal model is derived and we present computer simulation results for the broadband finite impulse response (FIR) beamformer performance according to the FIR filter order and the tap spacing. If the FIR filter order is increased above the optimum value, the beamformer performance is degraded. Also the tap spacing is related to the optimum FIR filter order.

This is the study on dry sliding wear behavior of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced epoxy matrix composite at ambient temperature. The wear rates and friction coefficients against the stainless steel counterpart specularly processed were experimentally determined and the resulting wear mechanisms were microscopically observed. Three principal sliding directions relative to the dominant fiber orientation in the composite were selected. Wren sliding took place against smooth and hard counterpart, the highest wear resistance and the lowest friction coefficient were observed in the antiparallel direction. When the velocity between the composite and the counterpart went up, the wear rate increased. The fiber destruction and cracking caused fiber bending on the contact surface, which was discovered to be dominant wear mechanism.

For the purpose of monitoring by ultrasonic test of the ball bearing conditions in rotating machinery, a system for their diagnosis was developed. ultrasonic technique is used to detect abnormal conditions in the bearing system. And various data such as frequency spectrum, energy and amplitude of ultrasonic signals, and ultrasonic parameters were acquired during experiments with the simulated ball bearing system. Based on the above results and practical application for power plant, algorithms and judgement criteria for diagnosis system was established. Bearing diagnosis system is composed of four parts as follows : sensing part for ultrasonic sensor and preamplifier, signal processing part for measuring frequency spectrum, energy and amplitude, interface part for connecting ultrasonic signal to PC using A/D converter, graphic display and software part for display of bearing condition and for managing of diagnosis program.

This study is on the constant-current stress corrosion test related to the load stress in welded zone and non-welded zone of high tensile strength steel for natural gas transmission. The surface corrosion pattern of the welded zone of API 5L-X65 specimens for natural gas transmission showed global corrosion and narrow pitting, and the pitting was increased by increasing the load stress. Initially, the average relative electrode potential and the average relative current of the high tensile strength steel for natural gas transmission specimens was decreased suddenly, and the average relative electrode potential was higher and the average relative current was lower in welded zone than base metal. and the average relative electrode potential was decreased by increasing the load stress, and the average relative current was somewhat increased by increasing the load stress. The corrosion rate was less in welded zone than base metal, and the corrosion rate was decreased by increasing the load stress.

High speed planning boats also have been required more and more the rational strength analysis and evaluation for the optimal structural design in respect of the structural lightness according to the high speed trend. Even though the suggestion of the simple type equation for the equivalent dynamic pressure is reasonable to design the scantling of ship structure conveniently, many research activities for more reasonable improvement of the simple design pressure, have been continued to suggest the more accurate equivalent static description of tire structural response such as the deflection and stress of hull structure. In this research, we focus on the aluminum bottom stiffened plate structure in which structural scantling is mainly depend on the local loads such as dynamic or impact pressure without other load effects and structural response for the simple dynamic equivalent pressure was investigated through the structural analysis. In order to investigate the structural response of the bottom stiffened plate structure subjected to the dynamic equivalent design pressure, linear and nonlinear structural analysis of the bottom stiffened plate structure of 4.3 ton aluminum planning boat was performed based on the equivalent static applied loads which were derived from the KR regulation and representative one among various dynamic equivalent pressure equations. From above analysis results, we found that the response such as deflection and stress of plate member was similar with the response results of one plate member model with fixed boundary, which was published previous paper and in case of KR design loading, all response of stiffened plate structure were within elastic limit. Through the nonlinear analysis, nearly elastic behavior including the slight geometrical nonlinear response was dominant but plastic local zone was appeared at
$85\%$ limit load. Therefore, we can say that through tire linear and nonlinear analysis, this stiffened plate member has no structural strength problem based on the yield criteria in case within$60\%$ limit load except the other strength point of view such as the fatigue and buckling problem.
