Based on the inventions of continuous ceramic fibers, such as C, SiC,
$Al_2O_3$ etc., by polymer precursor driven methods, there have been many efforts to fabricate ceramic continuous fiber reinforced composite materials with metals and ceramics matrices. The main purpose of the R & D efforts has been to produce materials for severe environments, including advanced energy systems, advanced transportation systems. The efforts have been started from the R & D of metal matrix composite materials and now the strong emphasis on ceramic matrix composites R & D can be recognized. This paper provides a brief review about the national efforts to establish advanced composite materials for future industries starting from mid 70s. C/Al and SiC/Al are the typical examples to be applied transportation systems and energy systems. The excellences in specific strength and overall mechanical properties, the excellences in environmental resistance make those materials as potential materials for advanced ocean construction and marine transportation systems. About the recent progress in ceramic fiber reinforced ceramic composites, advanced SiC/SiC composites including NITE-SiC/SiC will be introduced and the present status will be introduced. -
During the 11 year period of 1995-2005, there was about a 40% increase in the world copper demand mainly because of the Asian economic growth. In the increase, about a half was consumed by China. Most of the China's copper demand increase has been taken place over the final 5-6 years of that period. The growth is expected to continue for several years, and in 10 years or sooner the same situation is expected for India. Copper is the third metal in global demand, but its little abundance in the Earth's crust is not well recognized. From the production rate and the abundance, a copper shortage, or crisis, has a high probability than the other metals. Deep ocean mineral resources such as manganese nodules in the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zones, Kuroko-type massive seafloor sulfides (SMS), and cobalt-rich manganese crusts in the EEZ and the high sea areas have big potentials for the future sources. We need to re-evaluate their potentials as copper resources and other metals to realize their developments. The same situation is under progress in the hydro-carbon markets. Methane hydrates that are classified into non-conventional hydro-carbon resources have an important role as the future sources, too.

Based on the improvement in reinforcing SiC fibers and the utilization of very fine nano-SiC powders, the well known liquid phase sintering (LPS) process was drastically improved to become a new process called the Nano Infiltration and Transient Eutectic Phase (NITE) Process. Laboratory scale NITE-SiC/SiC composites demonstrated excellent mechanical properties, thermal conductivity, hermeticity and microstructure stability which made them attractive for not only energy application but many other industrial applications. For the real deployments of these materials, mass production system and evaluation methods, together with the design code and safety assurance systems are essential. The current efforts to establish these bases were introduced.

This paper dealt with the LPS process for the development of high performance SiC materials, based on the detailed analysis of their microstructure and mechanical properties. The submicron SiC powder was used for the fabrication of LPS-SiC materials. A mixture of
$Al_2O_3$ and$Y_2O_3$ particles was also used as a sintering additive in the LPS process. LPS-SiC materials were fabricated at different temperatures, using various additive composition ratio ($Al_2O_3/Y_2O_3$ ). The total amount of additive materials ($Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ ) was fixed as 10 wt%. The characterization Of LPS-SiC materials was investigated by means of SEM, XRD and three point bending test. The LPS-SiC material represented a relative density of about 98 % and a flexural strength of about 800MPa, when it was fabricated at the temperature of$1820^{\circ}C$ and the additive compositional ratio of 1.5. -
In this paper, the mechanical characteristics of ultrasonic cold forged technology (UCFT) used for the trimming knife and the effects of ultrasonic vibration energy (UVE) into the trimming process on the state of the strip cutting face were studied. And a diagnosis system to quality control for trimming knife and strip cutting face was developed and installed in plant. By the plant application of UCFT, service life of knife was more increased over 100% than that of conventional knife. And using the developed diagnosis system, the knife breakage and saw ear have been perfectly detected and quality control of trimming face is obtained effectively.

Ultrasonic cold forging technology (UCFT) utilizing ultrasonic vibration energy is a method to induce severe plastic deformation to a material surface, therefore the structure of the material surface becomes a nano-crystal structure from the surface to a certain depth. It improves the mechanical properties; hardness, compressive residual stress, wear and fatigue characteristics. Applying UCFT to a rolling process in the steel industry is introduced in this study. First, the UCFT specimens of a tool steel (SKD-61/equivalent H13) are prepared and tested to verify the effects of the UCFT in a variety of mechanical properties, the UCFT is applied to the trimming knives in a cold rolling process. It has been determined that UCFT improves the mechanical properties effectively and becomes a practical method to improve productivity and reliability by about two times compared with the conventionally treated tooling in the trimming process in a cold rolling line.

The fabrication process of fiber placement system of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) requires real time process control and reliable inspection to ensure quality by preventing defects such as delamination and void. Therefore, novel non-contact inspection technique is required during the non-destructive evaluation in a fiber placement system. For the inspection of delamination in CFRP, various methods to receive laser-generated ultrasound were applied by using piezoelectric transducer, air-coupled transducer, wavelet transform and scanning laser ultrasonic technique. Laser-generated ultrasound was received with a conventional piezoelectric sensor in contacting manner. Then signal characteristics due to defects were analyzed to find a factor for detecting defects. Air-coupled transducer was used for reception of laser-generated guided wave using linear slit array in order to generate high frequency guided wave. And line scan technique was used to confirm the capability of on-line application. The high frequency component of laser-generated guided wave received with piezoelectric sensor disappeared after propagating through delamination region. Nevertheless, it was failed to receive high frequency guided wave in using air-coupled transducer. The first peak of the frequency spectrum under 100kHz in the delamination region is higher than in the sound region. By using this feature, the line scanned frequency data were acquired in fully non-contact generation and reception of ultrasound. This method was proved as useful technique for detecting delamination in CFRP.

This paper presents the fault diagnosis of induction motor based on support vector machine (SVMs). SVMs are well known as intelligent classifier with strong generalization ability. Application SVMs using kernel function is widely used for multi-class classification procedure. In this paper, the algorithm of SVMs will be combined with feature extraction and reduction using component analysis such as independent component analysis, principal component analysis and their kernel (KICA and KPCA). According to the result, component analysis is very useful to extract the useful features and to reduce the dimensionality of features so that the classification procedure in SVM can perform well. Moreover, this method is used to induction motor for faults detection based on vibration and current signals. The results show that this method can well classify and separate each condition of faults in induction motor based on experimental work.

Decision tree is one of the most effective and widely used methods for building classification model. Researchers from various disciplines such as statistics, machine learning, pattern recognition, and data mining have considered the decision tree method as an effective solution to their field problems. In this paper, an application of decision tree method to classify the faults of induction motors is proposed. The original data from experiment is dealt with feature calculation to get the useful information as attributes. These data are then assigned the classes which are based on our experience before becoming data inputs for decision tree. The total 9 classes are defined. An implementation of decision tree written in Matlab is used for these data.

This paper presents a new way achieving better welding results of gas mental arc welding (GMAW) system by using a decentralized control method. In this paper, the GMAW system is considered as two separated subsystems such as a power source of GMAW (PS-GMAW) and a wire feed unit (WFU). The mathematical modeling of PS-GMAW and WFU are presented. Based on the modeling of two subsystems, a sliding mode controller and a proportional controller is designed for controlling the PS-GMAW and the WFU, respectively. Two decentralized controllers have to be designed to control the out welding arc of the GMAW to be stable and tracking the setting value accurately during the welding process. Furthermore, the simulation and experimental results are shown to prove the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

Uldolmok waterway is famous for its strong tidal current with maximum current of about 12knots, which is located between the Chindo island off the southwestern tip of Korean peninsula and mainland. A serious of field observations, along with numerical modeling, have been carried out over the last several years, in order to understand the tidal dynamics and to examine the related variables according to the tidal current power plant (TCPP) operation.

General formula are presented for the maximum power available from the tidal head in a closed basin and from the tidal currents in a channel connecting two large bodies of water. In the latter case, the available energy cannot be estimated from the kinetic energy flux in the undisturbed state, but can be obtained from knowledge of the tidal head between the ends of the channel and the maximum volume flux in the undisturbed state. The results are supported by detailed calculations for Johnstone Strait, British Columbia, using a two-dimensional finite element model. The model also allows an extension to the case of multiple channels. More work is needed to allow for partial tidal fences which do not occupy the whole cross-section of a channel.

The influence of waves on the dynamic properties of bending moments at the root of blades of tidal stream vertical axis rotors is reported. Blade theory for wind turbine is combined with linear wave theory and used to analyse this influence. Experiments were carried out to validate the simulation and the comparison shows the usefulness of the theory in predicting the bending moments. The mathematical model is then used to study the importance of waves for the fatigue design of the blade-hub connection.

This paper aims at giving an overview of the developments researchers at the Department of Civil Engineering, Aalborg University, Denmark (DCE), have been involved in within the field of wave energy utilization in Denmark over the past decade. At first a general introduction is given followed by a more thorough description of three ongoing projects. These are Wave Dragon, Wave Star and Seawave Slot-cone Generator. Common for these projects are that they are being, or will soon be, tested in real sea and have benefited from the Danish Wave Energy Program. The work by the department on these projects involves substantial laboratory testing, numerical simulations and real sea prototype testing.

There are several advantages to make use of a bridge pier for the tidal power generation. Current velocity increases near the pier, therefore the tidal power generation becomes more efficient because the power is proportional to the cubic of the current velocity. The pier is convenient for access and maintenance of the hydraulic turbine and the power unit. The project is now underway at the Ikitsuki Bridge in Tatsuno-Seto Strait of Nasasaki Prefecture, where the tidal current was measured by the bottom mount ADCP for almost one year. Model experiments for a Darrieus water turbine with two and three straight blades were carried out in the circulating water channel, in which the power coefficients of the turbine were obtained as a function of blade section and the attaching angle of a blade to the rotor. Those experimental results are discussed to obtain an optimum Darrieus turbine for tidal power generation.

Freak waves in the ocean are recently drawing much attention as a natural disaster to ocean structures and navigating ships as well. Several observation data, among them the Draupner New Year Wave, show the very impressive feature of Freak waves whose wave height is up to three times as high as the significant wave height of surrounding waves, In addition, Freak wave appears as an isolated very high crest in somewhat stationary random waves of same order in their wavelengths. Bearing such characteristics in mind, one notices its extraordinary steepness. This strongly suggests that Freak wave is not long lived but transient nature on the whole. A great number of studies to explain these natures were published from both theoretical and numerical point of view. However it is not sure if they are applicable to actual ocean environment. In this paper, we deal with the results concerning abnormal and/or Freak waves from in-situ ocean wave data and point out several remarks to the problems lain behind the contributions in this context. A physical experiment is described to reinforce the subject discussed from the observation data.

In this paper, generation mechanisms of ocean freak waves are briefly introduced in the context of wave-current interaction phenomena. As an accurate and efficient numerical tool, the spectral element method is presented with general features and specific treatment for the wave-current interaction problem. The present model of the fluid motion is based on the Navier-Stokes equations incorporating a velocity-pressure formulation. In order to deal with the free surface motion, an Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) description is adopted. As an intermediate stage of development, solution procedure and characteristic aspects of the present modeling and numerical method features are addressed in detail, and numerical results for wave-current interaction is left as further study.

Modern Ocean wave forecasting systems predict the mean sea state, as characterized by the wave spectrum, in a box of size
${\Delta}x{\Delta}y$ surrounding a grid point at location x. It is shown that this approach also allows the determination of deviations from the mean sea state, i.e. the probability distribution function of the surface elevation. Hence, ocean wave forecasting may provide valuable information on extreme sea states. -
Based on a weakly non-Gaussian theory the occurrence probability of freak waves is formulated in terms of the number of waves in a time series and the surface elevation kurtosis. Finite kurtosis gives rise to a significant enhancement of freak wave generation in comparison with the linear narrow banded wave theory. For fixed number of waves, the estimated amplification ratio of freak wave occurrence due to the deviation from the Gaussian theory is 50% - 300%. The results of the theory are compared with laboratory and field data.

Numerical computations are made to predict wave loads on a vertical cylinder in an extreme wave. To generate the extreme wave, a frequency-focused unidirectional wave is adopted in three-dimensional numerical wave tank. The mathematical formulation is wide in the scope of the potential theory with fully nonlinear free surface conditions. As a numerical method, finite element method based on variational principle is applied. Comparisons between the present numerical results and the previous computation data. show a good agreement.

In this study, the friction and wear characteristics of pure epoxy and silica-filled epoxy resin composites with average silica particle diameter of
$6-33{\mu}m$ were investigated at ambient temperature by pin-on-disc friction test. The cumulative wear volume, friction coefficient and wear rate of these materials against SiC abrasive paper were determined experimentally. The cumulative wear volume tended to increase nonlinearly with increase of sliding distance and depended on diameter of the silica particle for all these composites. The sliding wear tests of the materials demonstrated that the friction coefficient and the wear rate of silica filled epoxy composites were lower than those of the pure epoxy. silica filled epoxy. -
The effect of alkaline environmental condition on durability of GFRP composites according to additives has been investigated. Additives used were polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), kaolin and alumina powder. Weight gains increased with immersion time in all GFRP composites at
$80^{\circ}C$ . But weight gain of specimen added PVA did not differ through the whole immersion time in both tap water and alkaline solution at 20 and$80^{\circ}C$ . Tensile strength decreased with immersion time in all environment conditions. Tensile strength of GFRP composites regardless of additives decreased rapidly up to 5 days of immersion and then decreased slowly up to 30 days in alkaline solution environment at$80^{\circ}C$ . The weight gains were not much difference in both tap water and alkaline solution at$20^{\circ}C$ . But the ones of GFRP composites added PVA was smaller than the composites without additive in all aqueous at$20^{\circ}C$ . Test strength of GFRP composites added polyvinyl alcohol has improved through the whole immersion time in both tap water and alkaline solution environment at$20^{\circ}C$ . -
점탄성 복합재는 간단한 작업으로 큰 감쇠 효과를 볼 수 있어 사용이 날로 늘어나고 있다. 그런데 점탄성 복합재의 특성은 온도에 민감하게 반응하며 변화한다. 그러므로 점탄성 복합재의 모드해석 시 온도 변화에 따른 해석이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 한쪽면에 점탄성재를 부착한 Oberst beam을 일단고정 상태로 설치하여 실험 온도를
$-15{\sim}45^{\circ}C$ 로 변화시켜가며 전달함수를 이용하여 실험모드해석을 실행하였다. 그리고 온도 차이에 따른 모드형상을 비교하였다. -
Composite material is one of the strong candidates for deep see pressure hulls. Research regarding composite unstiffened or stiffened cylinders subjected to hydrostatic pressure has a couple of decades history abroad but domestic research is very new. Experimental investigations seem necessary to understand their structural behavior not only up to the ultimate limit state but in post-ultimate regime. Those experimental information will be very helpful to develop any theoretical methods or to substantiate any commercial numerical packages for structural analyses. In this study, ultimate strength tests on seven composite cylinders subjected to hydrostatic pressure are reported, which includes the fabrication method of models, material properties of the material, initial shape imperfection measurements, test procedure and strain and axial shortening measurements during the tests. The ultimate strengths of the models were compared with those of numerical analyses. The numerical predictions are higher than the test results. It is necessary to improve the accuracy of the numerical predictions.

SiC materials have been extensively studied for high temperature components in advanced energy conversion system and advanced gas turbine. However, the brittle characteristics of SiC such as law fracture toughness and law strain-to fracture impose a severe limitation on the practical applications of SiC materials. SiC/SiC composites can be considered as a promising candidate in various structural materials, because of their good fracture toughness. In this composite system, the direction of SiC fiber will give an effect to the mechanical properties. It is therefore important to control a properdirection of SiC fiber for the fabrication of high performance SiC/SiC composites. In this study, unidirection and two dimension woven structures of SiC/SiC composites were prepared starting from Tyranno SA fiber. SiC matrix was obtained by nano-powder infiltration and transient eutectoid (NITE) process. Effect of microstructure and density on the sintering temperature in NITE-SiC/SiC composites are described and discussed with the fiber direction of unidirection and two dimension woven structures.

In this study, Liquid Phase Sintered SiC (LPS-SiC) was fabricated by hot pressing method with
$\beta$ -SiC powder whose a particle size is 30nm and less on the average in argon condition at 1780 and$1800^{\circ}C$ under 20MPa. Alumina ($Al_2O_3$ ), yttria ($Y_2O_3$ ) and silica ($SiO_2$ ) were used for sintering additives. To investigate effects of particle-size and temperature on$SiO_2$ , LPS-SiC was fixed$Al_2O_3$ ,$Y_2O_3$ and then particle-size of$SiO_2$ were changed as two kinds. The system of particle-size and temperature on sintering additives which affects a property of sintering os well os the influence depending on particle-size and temperature of sintering additives were investigated by measurement of sintering properties. Such as measurement of sintering density, vikers hardness and observing of microstructure were investigated to make sure of the optimum condition which is about matrix of$SiC_f/SiC$ composites. Base on the composition of sintering additives, microstructure and sintering property correlation, the effect of particle-size of sintering additives are discussed. An experimental method to investigate the dynamic characteristics of bums in extreme environmental condition is established. -
$Si_3N_4/SiC$ composite ceramics was sintered in order to investigate their bending strength behavior after crack healing.$Y_2O_$ and$TiO_2$ power was added as sintering additives to enhance it's sintering property. A three-point bending specimen was cut out from sintered plates. About$100\;{\mu}m$ semi-circular surface cracks were made on the center of the tension surface of the three-point bending specimen using Vickers indenter. After the crack-healing processing from$500^{\circ}C$ to$1300^{\circ}C$ , for 1 h, in air, the bending strength behavior of these crack-healed specimen coated with$SiO_2$ colloidal were determined systematically at room temperature.$Si_3N_4/SiC$ ceramics using additive powder ($Y_2O_3+TiO_2$ ) was superior to that of additive powder$Y_2O_3$ . The additive powder$TiO_2$ exerted influence at growth of$Si_3N_4$ . The optimum crack healing conditions coated$SiO_2$ colloidal were$1000^{\circ}C$ at$Si_3N_4/SiC$ using additive powder ($Y_2O_3+TiO_2$ ), and$1300^{\circ}C$ at$Si_3N_4/SiC$ using additive powder$Y_2O_3$ . -
In the present work, silicon nitride was fabricated with
$Y_3Al_5O_{12}$ as sintering additive and its mechanical properties were investigated. Silicon nitride with 3, 5, 7wt% of$Y_3Al_5O_{12}$ was prepared and sintered by a Hot Pressing (HP) technique at 1750,$1800^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. The Process was fulfilled under different process pressures of 30, 45MPa respectively. Mechanical properties (density, strength, hardness, fracture toughness) were investigated as a function of$Y_3Al_5O_{12}$ contents in$Si_3N_4$ .$Si_3N_4-Y_3Al_5O_{12}$ ceramics showed similar mechanical properties compared with$Si_3N_4-Y_2O_3-Al_2O_3$ ceramics. But its high temperature strength was higher than$Si_3N_4-Y_2O_3-Al_2O_3$ ceramics considerably. -
There are many kinds of protection methods for marine structures by using and environmental condition. Coating protection method, one of these methods is being widely adopted to both all ground and marine structures. In this study, by adding some additives such as Zn powder(Zn), carbon black(CB) to epoxy anti-corrosive paint, the effect to promote corrosion resistance was investigated with electrochemical method. Corrosion potentials with additives shifted to negative direction than no additive. However passivity current density increased than no additive except for Zn(20)+CB(10), especially, additive of Zn(20)+CB(10) showed the smallest passivity current density. Polarization resistance of Zn(20)+CB(10) by both cyclic voltammogram and impedance measurement was the largest value than other additives. And also surface phenomenon by adding Zn(20)+CB(10) was observed a good add condition not showing bubbling than other additives.

This study is to make a basic study if solid zinc (Zn) can be used for buried reference electrode, so we examined the adequacy of zinc as reference electrode by using zinc which showed regular electrode for buried period. The deference of electric potential if zinc electrode for corrosion factor such as soil resistivity or pH didn't show fixed trend and there was no clear trend on the change of measurement period. From field test, it is known that the natural electric potential difference of CSE electrode and zinc electrode is 1,100mV, but the electric potential of zinc electrode for CSE electrode in the natural soil and copying soil was 1,094~1,158mV. There was no fixed trend on the change of measurement period and electric potential difference of zinc electrode for corrosion factors such as soil resistivity or pH. Consequently, there was 40~60mV of electric potential difference in every copying soil during the experiment measurement.

Nano Infiltration Transient Eutectic Phase - Silicon Carbide (NITE-SiC) and
$SiC_f/SiC$ composite have been fabricated by a Hot Pressing (HP) process, using SiC powder with an average size of about 30nm. Alumina ($Al_2O_3$ ) and Yttria ($Y_2O_3$ ) were used for additives materials. These mixed powders were sintered at the temperature a of$1300^{\circ}C$ ,$1650^{\circ}C$ ,$1800^{\circ}C$ and$1900^{\circ}C$ under an applied pressure of 20MPa. And unidirection and two dimension woven structures of$SiC_f/SiC$ composites were prepared starting from Tyranno SA fiber. Densification of microstructure gives an effect to density. Specially, Densification Mechanism basically is important from the sintering which use the HP. In this study, the densification of NITE-SiC and$SiC_f/SiC$ composite mechanism by a press displacement appears investigated. The mechanism on the densification of each sintering temperature was investigated. The each step is shows a with each other different mechanism quality. -
The sea water pipe of engine room in all kinds of ships is being surrounded with severe corrosive environment. Therefore it's leakage part due to corrosion is inevitably prevented by various welding method. In this case corrosion property of welded zone may be considerably different by each welding materials. In this study corrosion resistance of the welded zone of sea water pipe with some welding materials such as shielded metal arc welding materials, inert gas arc welding materials was investigated with electrochemical method.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the welding distortion at the channel I butt SA weldment. In order to do it, the heat input model for the weldment was defined as combined heat source with the surface heat flux of gaussian mode and volume heat source uniformly distributed within weld groove on the basis of comparing the shapes of molten pool and temperature distribution obtained by FEA and experiment. The arc efficiency of SA welding for 2 dimensional FE analysis was determined as 0.85. The results of welding distortions at the weldment obtained by FEA and heat input conditions proposed have a good agreement with those obtained by experiment. Based on the results, it was suggested that the proper heat input model should be required to evaluate the welding distortion for weldment.

Recently many research are going on in the field of application of Laser and Laser-Arc hybrid welding for superstructures such as ship-structures, transport vehicles etc. Therefore in this study an optimized welding condition and numerical simulation for hybrid welding by using previous numerical analysis which is used to calculate the heat source for Laser and Laser-Arc hybrid welding has been analyzed. For this purpose, fundamental welding phenomena of hybrid process(Laser+MIG) are determined based on the experiments. In order to calculate temperature and residual stress distribution in Laser and Laser-Arc hybrid welds, finite element heat source model is developed on the basis of experiment results and characteristics of temperature and residual stress distribution in Laser and Laser-Arc hybrid welds are understood from the result of simulation and found comparable to the experimental values.

The portion of thin plate is expected to increases as to the development of design and fabrication technology. The weld-induced deformation is more serious in thin plates than in thick plates because heat affect zone of thin plates is wider than that of thick plates, and in addition internal and external constraints much more influence upon weld-induced deformation of thin plates. This paper deals with the application of the mechanical tensioning method to fillet weld of thin plates to reduce the weld-induced deformation. For this, fillet welding test have been carried out for several thin plate specimens with varying plate thickness and magnitude of tensile load. From the present study, it has been found that the tenssoning method is effective on reduction of weld-induced deformation.

A three-dimensional finite element (FEM) model has been developed to simulate the deformation due to bead on plate welding of curved plates with curvature in the weld direction. By using traditional method such as thermal-elastic-plastic FEM, the weld-induced deformation can be predicted accurately. However, this method is not practical approach to analyze the deformation of large and complex structures such as ship hull structures in view of time and cost. This study is classified from the aspect of equivalent load based on inherent strain near the weld line. Therefore, the residual deformation can be simply computed by elastic analysis. Further more, a practical solution is proposed to consider the contact between the plate and the positioning jig by judging the reaction forces of the jig at calculation step and the effect of the longitudinal curvature is closely considered.

Similar friction welding were produced using 15 mm diameter solid bar in Ni-base superalloy(alloy718) to investigate their mechanical properties. The main friction welding parameters were selected to endure good quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile tests, AE total counts and ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. The specimens were tested as welded, not heat-treated. The tensile strength of the friction welded joints was increased up to 90% of the alloy718 base metal under the condition of all heating time. Optimal welding conditions were n=2,000 (rpm),
$P_1=200$ (MFa),$P_2=200$ (MFa),$t_1=8$ (s),$t_2=5$ (s) when the total upset length is 4.4(mm). The weld interface of similar friction welded steel bars was mixed strongly. -
Line heating with water cooling is generally adapted process in the shipyards for the forming hull surface. The purpose of this paper is to develop a model of thermal deformation in water cooling process after the line heating. In order to simulate the cooling process, heat transfer analysis was performed by assuming the effects of water cooling as a negative heat-source. Experiment for the line heating with water cooling was performed for 9 models of plates in order to verify the cooling model. By using the suggested model for the water cooling process, it could be observed that the present method predict the plate deformations in the line heating more accurately.

During the last decade several different methods have been proposed for the estimation of thermal deformations in the line heating process. These are mainly based on the assumption of residual strains in the heat-affected zone or simulated relations between heating conditions and residual deformations. However these results were restricted in the application from the too simplified heating conditions or the shortage of the data. The purpose of this paper is to develop a simulator of thermal deformation in the line heating using the artificial neural network. Two neural network predicting the maximum temperature and deformations at the heating line are studied. Deformation data from the line heating experiments are used for learning data for the network. It was observed that thermal deformation predicted by the neural network correlate well with the experimental result.

Large-scale model tests of welded tubular K-joints were carried out to observe the fatigue behavior of API 2W Gr.60 steel produced by POSCO. The fatigue crack behaviors for various loading conditions were measured and investigated around the critical joint sections. The experimental results have been verified with numerical approaches and also compared with the IIW, DnV RP-C203 and API RP 2A-WSD design curves. The hot spot stress method was applied in the study. The SCF factor for tubular K-joint was also obtained.

In this study, the graphite/epoxy prepregs were surface-treated using oxygen plasma, and optimal treatment time was determined measuring the contact angle en the prepreg surface. Interlaminar fracture behavior of surface-treated graphite/epoxy composite was compared with that of regular (untreated) graphite/epoxy composites. The results showed that the contact angle was a minimum when treated for 30 minutes. The interlaminar fracture toughness of surface-treated specimen was improved about 15% compared with that of regular specimen.

The safety of on-going ships is one of important concerns in the view of environment and human life. The ship in bad condition is likely to be subjected to accidental loads such as collision. Once she has one or several minor collision damages in the form of circle or ellipse, her ultimate strength under compression or tension load will be reduced. Here, it is important to evaluate the reduction ratio of ultimate strength due to the damage from safety point of view. The problem of strength reduction of a plate with cutout such as opening hole has been treated by many researchers. As a result, a closed-form formula on the reduction of ultimate strength of a plate considering the effect of several forms of cutout was suggested. However, the structure of ships is composed of a plate and a stiffener so-called a stiffened plate, and it is likely to be damaged at a plate and stiffeners together in collision. This paper is to investigate the effect of minor collision damage on ultimate strength of a stiffened plate by using numerical analysis. For this study, the shape of minor collision damage of a stiffened plate was made by using contact algorithm. The deformed shape was used as an initial shape for ultimate stress analysis. Then, a series of nonlinear FE analysis was conducted to investigate the reduction effects of ultimate strength of the stiffened plate. The boundary condition was applied as simply supported at all boundaries, and the tripping of stiffener among failure mode under compression loading was neglected. These results were settled in the form of reduction ratio between ultimate of original intact stiffened plate and that of damaged stiffened plate.

Failure behaviors of thin cylinder with corrosion are very important for the integrity of boiler and pressure vessel system. In this study, FEM with internal pressure are conducted on 1000 mm diameter (length 3000 mm and thickness, 5.9 mm) SS400 carbon steel. Failure behaviors of locally wall thinned cylinders were calculated by elasto-plastic analysis using finite element method. The elasto-plastic analysis was performed by FE code ANSYS. We simulated various types of local wall thinning that can be occurred at cylinder surface due to corrosion. Locally wall thinned shapes were machined to be different in size along the circumferential or axial direction of straight cylinder. In case of local wall thinned length 30 mm, internal pressure, when the crack initiation and the plastic collapse occur, didn't decrease dramatically even though local wall thinned depth was deep. In 400 mm, the more local wall thinned depth is deep, the more internal pressure decreased dramatically. In degraded materials, crack is easily initiation but plastic collapse was difficult.

A dilatometer was used to investigate the effect of cure conditions and the presence of filler in an epoxy system. These studies showed shrinkage in the cured epoxy when heating it through the glass transition temperature region. The magnitude of the shrinkage, related to stress build up in the epoxy during curing, was influenced by the processing conditions, filler presence and the nature of the mold used to contain the resin. Cure and cyclic cure at a lower temperature, prior to a post cure, decreased the magnitude of observed shrinkage. Cure shrinkage decreased with number of cyclic cure. Post cured samples outside the mold led to less shrinkage compared with sample in the mold. And sample containing kaolin filler showed less shrinkage than unfilled sample.

This paper investigates the applicability of modularized floating structure. A floating parking place is considered as an example of moularized structure. It is assumed that the example structure is composed of reinforced concrete box modules and steel connectors. By analyzing stresses of the structure under static and wave loads, the optimal stiffness of the module is determined In the numerical calculation, the direct method is used Economical effectiveness of the modularized structure is also evaluated by analyzing cost for materials, manufacture and installation.

In this paper, we suggest the high efficient control method based on general PI control law to control the refrigeration system of the ship effectively. In the variable speed refrigeration system, the capacity and the superheat are controlled by inverters and electronic expansion valves respectively for saving energy and improving cost performance. Thus, we propose decoupling model to eliminate the interfering at first. Next, we design PI controller to control capacity and superheat independently. Finally the control performance was investigated through some experiments. The experiments results show that the PI control design can obtain good control performance deal with the varied control reference and thermal load.

The development of offshore structures have been increased spectacularly, especially in oil rig structures. This study concerns with the effects of heave motion of spar platform that attached the helical fin. There are three models, namely, cylinder, cylinder-truss and cylinder-cell with different geometrical dimensions are examined. Finally, the interaction between structure and fluid is closely considered. As the results, it can be seen that the existence of helical fin does not influence on surging but it affects a little on heaving of spar platform.

This paper shows the study on application of the law temperature energy in the deep seawater. Deep, cold seawater has long been recognized as a valuable ocean energy resource. Recently, research and experimentation has been conducted on energy systems using deep seawater: deep seawater air conditioning system, ice-making device, salt and fresh-water manufacturing system and the Spray freeze drying system for extracting valuable material of the deep seawater. They are technically and economically feasible today: once installed, the energy is inexhaustible and there are no adverse environmental impacts. Because of the economy of scale in the air conditioning system, the seawater A/C system is most appropriate for supplying multiple buildings or hotels in a coastal area.

Aiming at the efficient management and preservation of the eco-system and the enhancement of the bio-productivity of the tidal-flat zones, development of a environment-friendly vehicle for tidal-flat area is being attempted. This paper deals with the description of the characteristics of the tidal-flat zones of west coast of Korea, the technology assessment of the related products in the ATV(All-Terrain Vehicle) market, the demand assessment for the resident people.

This paper deal with development of dredging equipment that proper water head elimination method changing transitional dredging method. Numerical simulation and model test were accomplished for development of seabed sediment inhalation equipment using water head. Sediment elimination system by the difference of water head has been analysed by numerical method. Model test was achieved for inhalation equipment performance test using water head by primary design. Also sediment elimination system has designed and developed that doesn't occur secondary pollution phenomenon. To verify the numerical results are compared with experimental results.

The preliminary design of a deep-sea injection system for carbon dioxide ocean sequestration is performed. Common functional requirements for a deep-sea injection system of mid-depth type and lake type are determined, Liquid transport system, liquid storage system and liquid injection system are conceptually determined for the functional requirements. For liquid injection system, the control of flow rate and temperature of liquid
$CO_2$ in the injection pipe is needed in the view of internal flow. The function of depressing VIV(Vortex Induced Vibration) is also required in the view of dynamic stability of the injection pipe. A case study is performed for$CO_2$ sequestration capacity of 10 million tons per year. In this study, the total number of injection ships, the flow rate of liquid$CO_2$ and the configuration of a injection pipe are designed. The static structural analysis of the injection pipe is also performed. Finally the preliminary design of a deep-sea injection system is proposed. -
The use of packaged skid in oil and gas plant has increased dramatically over the decades, replacing loose supply equipment. Most equipment is installed on structural skid in manufacturer's shop. As Oil and Gas Plants are constructed at inaccessible area, the demands of packaged skids are increased. The packaged skid have advantages comparing to loose supply equipment in inaccessible area. The packaged skid is small complex plant consists of process, mechanical, piping, instrument, electrical and structural steel. This paper examines advantages and problems of packaged skid, based on previous experience. EPC company consider key factors such as manufacturing period, construction periods, equipment quality and costs.

In this paper the recent research and application activities on smart structure technologies for civil infra structures in Korea are briefly introduced. The developments of structural health monitoring systems and effective retrofit/maintenance methodologies for infra structures have become active in Korea since the middle of 1990's, as the number of the deteriorated infra structures, mostly built on the rapidly industrialized period of 1970's, has increased very rapidly. Discussions are made on smart sensors, non destructive technologies, monitoring and assessment methods and systems for civil infra structures.

Most real world design evaluation and risk-based decision support combine quantitative and qualitative (linguistic) variables. Decision-making based on conventional mathematics that combines qualitative and quantitative concepts always exhibit difficulty in modelling actual problems. The successful selection process for choosing a design/procurement proposal is based on a high degree of technical integrity, safety levels and low costs in construction, corrective measures, maintenance, operation, inspection and preventive measures. However, the objectives of maximising the degree of technical performance, maximising the safety levels and minimising the costs incurred are usually in conflict, and the evaluation of the technical performance, safety and costs is always associated with uncertainties, especially for a novel system at the initial concept design stage. In this paper, a design-decision support framework using a composite structure methodology grounded in approximate reasoning approach and evidential reasoning method is suggested for design evaluation of machinery space of a ship engine room at the initial stages. It is a Multiple Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) or Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) framework, which provides a juxtaposition of cost, safety and technical performance of a system during evaluation to assist decision makers in selecting the winning design/procurement proposal that best satisfies the requirement in hand. An illustrative example is used to demonstrate the application of the proposed framework.

After building a ship in a shipyard, there are so many repeated inspection of welding seam defects and painting status before delivering to the ship's owner. An inspection on the bottom part of a ship in commercial service should be done in every two years for the purpose of safety and for the prevention of ship speed deterioration. conventional welding seam inspection systems are rely on the visual inspection by human or the ultrasonic inspection for the selective part of a ship. This paper suggests a remote controlled inspection system for the examination of large ships or steel structures. The proposed system moves in contact with the ship under inspection and have a CCD camera to provide visual-guidance information to a remotely located human worker. Additionally this system utilizes a weld line tracking algorithm for an optimal position control. We verified the effectiveness of the inspection system by experimental data.

Recently the target area for the installation of structures have been changed from shallow water into deep one by reservation and use of the wider coastal region, and development of deep water. Additionally, great emphasis in the improved human life quality has been placed on the necessities for the preservation of the agreeable natural and coastal environments and development waterfront, recreation, and resort in the sea. However, the existing gravity-type breakwater did not appropriately cope with the recent changes of circumstances, but required the enormous construction coat for coping with them. Until now, floating breakwuater, which was adequate for the environment and construction cost, has been actively studied in the other countries including Japan. This floating breakwater has been already constructed in many places and satisfactory in poor subsoil and deep water in Japan. Also it showed the same function as a gravity-type breakwater. But floating breakwater was not control long period waves by reason of constructive characteristic. The aim of this study is to discuss field application of Floating Breakwater with Compound Plate Type(FBCPT) in coastal region by using numerical analyses and hydraulic model test.

From the hydraulic experiment, it was concluded that upwelling could be enhanced when the relative structure height (the ratio of structure height to water depth) was 0.3 and stratification parameter was 3.0. In addition, the optimum size of rubbers was determined that the effect of the mean horizontal length of block was affected incident velocity than size of block. In the numerical experiment, the relation between the shape of rubber and stratification parameter was verified, ana the hydraulic characteristics of 3-D flow field around the artificial structures were investigated. Phenomena of flow field around the artificial upwelling structures corresponded with the results of hydraulic experiment. The position with maximum velocity in artificial upwelling structure was the center of top of its front side and the slip stream occurred at the inside and behind-bottom of artificial upwelling structures. The velocity of slip stream and early amplitude of velocity were higher in the inside than the behind-bottom.

The rail clamp is the device to prevent the crane slips along a rail from the wind blast as well as to locate a container crane in the set position during an operating mode. In this study we conduct the research for determining the proper position of supporter to prevent the overload applied to the rail clamp with respect to the wedge angle in the wedge type rail clamp. The friction force between the jaw pad and the rail to prevent that the crane slips along a rail, when the wind blows, is generated fly the rail-directional wind load. Accordingly the proper position of the supporter to prevent the overload is determined fly analyzing the forces applied to the rail clamp in the wedge working stage. In order to analyze the effect of the wedge angle on the position of supporter, 5-kinds of wedge angles, such as 2, 4, 6, 8,
$10^{\circ}$ , were adapted as the design parameter, and the wind speed of 40m/s was adapted as the design wind speed criteria. -
As the age of information technology is coming, companies stress the need of knowledge management. Companies construct ERP system including knowledge management. But, it is not easy to formalize knowledge in organization. we focused on data mining system by using genetic programming. But, we don't have enough data to perform the learning process of genetic programming. We have to reduce input parameter(s) or increase number of learning or training data. In order to do this, the enhanced data mining system by using GP combined with SOM(Self organizing map) is adopted in this paper. We can reduce the number of learning data by adopting SOM.

Systems engineering is the integrating mechanism across the technical efforts related to the development, manufacturing, verification, deployment, operations, support, disposal at and user training for systems and their life cycle processes (EIA/IS 632). This paper introduces the principles and processes of systems engineering, based on EIA/IS 632, as a methodology for the development of large-complex marine systems.

Underwater ambient noise originating from the geophysical, biological, and man-made acoustic sources contains much information on the sources and the ocean environment affecting the performance of the sonar equipments. In this paper, a set of feature vectors of the ambient noises using MFCC is proposed and extracted to form a data base for the purpose of identifying the noise sources. The developed algorithm for the pattern recognition is applied to the observed ocean data, and the initial results are presented and discussed.

This paper concerns about total dynamic analysis of integrated mining system. This system consists of vertical steel pipe, intermediate buffer station, flexible pipe and self-propelled miner. The self-propelled miner and buffer are assumed as rigid-body of 6-dof. Discrete models of vertical steel pipe and flexible pipe are adopted, which are obtained by means of lumped-parameter method. The motion of mining vessel is not considered. Instead, the motion of mining vessel is taken into account in form of various boundary conditions (e.g. forced excitation in slow motion and/or fast oscillation and so on). A terramechanics model of extremely soft cohesive soil is applied to the self-propelled miner. The hydrodynamic forces and moments are included in the dynamic models of vehicle and lifting pipe system. Hinged and fixed constraints are used to define the connections between sub-systems (vertical steel pipe, buffer, flexible pipe, miner). Equations of motion of the coupled model are derived with respect to the each local coordinates system. Four Euler parameters are used to express the orientations of the sub-systems. To solve the equations of motion of the total dynamic model, an incremental-iterative formulation is employed. Newmark-b method is used for time-domain integration. The total dynamic responses of integrated mining system are investigated.

This paper concerns about coupled dynamic analysis of the deep-seabed mining system in launching operation. The dynamic behavior of mining system consisting of lifting pipe, buffer station, flexible conduit and self-propelled miner is simulated in time domain. The launching operation is divided into four critical phases: (1) deployment of miner and flexible conduit, (2) deployment of lifting pipe, flexible conduit and miner, (3) touch-down of miner, (4) final launching. The dynamic responses of sub-systems - miner, flexible conduit, buffer and lifting pipe - are analyzed in each launching phase. According to the changing periods of forced excitation at the top, the dynamic responses of sub-systems are diverse in their characteristics. It has been shown that the total integrated responses of sub-systems are strongly affected by the design parameters. Especially, the principal dimensions of flexible conduit seem to be significant in determining of the global response. Based on the simulation results, safe operation conditions are investigated.

The Deep-sea miner system is composed of body, actuators, sensors, and devices for control and monitoring. At present, we are manufacturing the miner's body included actuators and already consisted with off-the-shelf embedded controller. But sensors and those devices were just determined. To previously test performance of embedded controller which manages control and monitoring of miner system, its simulator must be developed for control and monitoring. Hardware-In-the-Loop(HIL) simulation is being increasingly used in industrial applications. This is an effective tool for the evaluation of electric system and drives. In the HIL simulator, we can test and design the control and monitoring system freely without the risk of hardware ruins and the load of expenses. Also the programming software for miner operating is verified on the HIL simulator. In this paper, we introduce the concept of HIL simulator for control and monitoring of deep-sea miner.

The operation planning of multi-AUV is considered as a very difficult task. This paper proposes the qualitative method about the operation plan of multi-agents. In order to achieve this goal, it applies an extension collision map method as a tool to avoide collision between multi AUVs. This tool has been developed for the purpose of collision forecasting and collision avoidance for the multi - agents system in a land where a control is much easier. This paper analyzes the avoidance value of maximum path of AUV in order to apply this to a water environment where a tidal, a wave and disturbances are common. And it suggests the method that the maximum path avoidance can be applied to the collision avoidance on the extension collision map. Finally, the result proves that multi AUVs effectively navigates to the goal point, avoiding the collision by the suggested method.

With the increasing requirements for the survey and development of the ocean, the demands on the of AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) technologies have been increased. Reconstruction and replay of the AUV motion on the basis of the data stored during the execution of mission, can help the development of control strategies for AUVs such as mission planning and control algorithms. While an AUV cruises for her mission, her attitude and position data are is recorded. The data can be used for visualization of the motion in off-line. However, because most of the position data gathered from acoustic sensors have long time-interval and include intermittent faulty signal, the replayed motion by the graphic simulator can not demonstrate the motion as a smooth movie. In this paper, interpolation methods are surveyed to reconstruct the AUV position data. Then, an efficient 3D visualization method for AUV motion using the interpolation method is proposed. Simulation results arc also included to verify the proposed method.

This paper deals with the ways how the AUV is composed of sub-modules to be fault-tolerant during the mission. The emergency situations can be classified into several parts according to the zones where the situations take place - sensor zone, actuator zone, interpreter zone, and communication zone. This paper explains how each element of emergency situation is detected, contained and treated, and as a result, introduce the modular structured AUV controller for the autonomous cruising.

The more deeply the researches make progress in ocean researches including the seabed resource investigation or the oceanic ecosystem investigation, the more important the role of UUV gets. In case of study on the deep sea, there are difficulties in telecommunications between AUV and ships, and in data communication and recharging. Therefore, docking is required. In AUV docking system, the AUV should identify the position of docking and make contact with a certain point of docking device. MOERI (Maritime & Ocean Engineering Research Institute), KORDI has conducted the docking testing on AUV ISIMI in KORDI Ocean Engineering Water Tank. As AUV ISIMI approachs the docking device, it is presented that attitude is unstable, because the lights Which is on Image Frame are disappeared. So we fix the rudder and stem, if the lights on Image Frame are reaching the specific area in the Image Frame. In this paper, we intend to solve the problems that were found in the testing, which, first, will be identified via simulation.

Increased usage of autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) has led to the development of alternative navigational methods that do not employ the acoustic beacons and dead reckoning sensors. This paper describes a simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) scheme that uses range sonars mounted on a small AUV. The SLAM is one of such alternative navigation methods for measuring the environment that the vehicle is passing through and providing relative position of AUV by processing the data from sonar measurements. A technique for SLAM algorithm which uses several ranging sonars is presented. This technique utilizes an unscented Kalman filter to estimate the locations of the AUV and objects. In order for the algorithm to work efficiently, the nearest neighbor standard filter is introduced as the algorithm of data association in the SLAM for associating the stored targets the sonar returns at each time step. The proposed SLAM algorithm is tested by simulations under various conditions. The results of the simulation show that the proposed SLAM algorithm is capable of estimating the position of the AUV and the object and demonstrates that the algorithm will perform well in various environments.

Maritime and Ocean Engineering Research Institute (MOERI), a branch of KORDI, has designed and manufactured a model of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) named ISiMI(Integrated Submergible for Intelligent Mission Implementation). ISiMI is an AUV platform to satisfy the various needs of experimental test required for development of challenging technologies newly investigated in the field of underwater robot; control and navigational algorithms and software architectures. The main design goal of ISiMI AUV is downsizing which will reduce substantially the operating cost compared to other vehicles previously developed in KORDI such as VORAM or DUSAUV. As a result of design and manufacturing process, ISiMI is implemented to be 1.2m in length, 0.17m in diameter and weigh 20 kg in air. A series of tank test is conducted to verify the basic functions of ISiMI in the Ocean Engineering Basin of MOERI, which includes manual control with R/F link, auto depth, auto heading control and a final approach control for underwater docking. This paper describes the implementation of ISiMI system and the experimental results to verify the function of ISiMi as a test-bed AUV platform.

In underwater environment, the control of AUV is difficult, because of the existence of parameter uncertainties and disturbances as well as highly nonlinear and coupled system dynamics. The requirement for the simple and robust controller which works satisfactorily in those dynamical uncertainties, call for a design using the PD or sliding mode controller. The PD controller is very popular controller in the industrial field and the sliding mode controller has been used successfully for the AUV controller design. In this paper, the two controllers arc designed for ISiMI(Integrated Submergible Intelligent Mission Implementation) AUV and the performances are compared by numerical simulation under the modeling uncertainty and disturbances. The design process of PD and sliding mode controller for ISiMI AUV and simulation results are included to compare the performances of the two controllers.

An underwater mooing target position tracking system using image tracking system of CPMC is developed to use in a test basin. Generally the performance tests of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles(AUVs) are conducted in the sea. Some efforts to perform the test in a test basin are exist, because the real sea tests need much time and manpower. And also the real sea tests are high cost. There is a restriction to acquire the position of AUVs using sonar sensor system in the test tank, because many sound reflecters are exist in a test basin. In this paper a position tracking system for underwater mooing target developed to break though this restriction. A Tank-test is conducted to examine the performance of the position tracking system.

This study develops an automatic berthing control algorithm for ships with a bow thruster and a stern thruster as well as a rudder. A nonlinear mathematical model for low speed maneuvering of ships is used to develop a MIMO(multi-input multi-output) nonlinear control algorithm. The algorithm consists of two parts, which are forward velocity control and heading angle control. The control algorithm is designed based on the longitudinal and yaw dynamic models of ships. The desired heading angle is obtained by the so called "Line of Sight" method. An optimal control force allocation method of the rudder and the thrusters is suggested. The nonlinear control algorithms are tested by numerical simulations using MATLAB, and shows good tracking performances.

However the Rayleigh distribution over-predicts the probability of high waves. Longuet-Higgins introduced alternative form of the Rayleigh distribution with an empirical constant. The wave height distribution can be fitted well by one parameter Rayleigh distribution with a proper choice of the empirical constant. The empirical constant is the ratio of the significant wave height based the time domain analysis and the spectral analysis. Here we examine wave data which contain extreme waves. Once again we confirmed that extreme wave height distribution can be modelled well by a modified Rayleigh distribution.

In general, a method for generating irregular wave by combination of component waves obtained from linear wave theory is widely used. In these method, however, mean water surface elevation is rising from time to time because of nonlinear effect of wave. In this study, for the rising problem of mean water surface elevation and stabilization of calculation from time to time, mass transport velocity for horizontal velocity at wave source position is considered. The rising problem of mean water surface elevation is checked by comparing calculated wave profile from numerical technique proposed in this study with target wave profile at wave source position in numerical wave tank by using CADMAS-SURF code. And, by generating irregular wave, the validity of wave overtopping rate estimated from this numerical analysis is discussed by comparing computed results with measured results in hydraulic model experiments for vertical seawall located on a sloping sea bottom. As a results, the computations are validated against the previously experimental results by hydraulic model test and numerical results of this study and a good agreement is observed. Therefore, numerical technique of this study is a powerful tool for estimating wave overtopping rate over the crest of coastal structure.

Recently, as economy grow and population increase we need to develop our coastal area and make good use of it for various purposes. That's why large structures are being installed on the sea. Some samples are petroleum storage tanks, pier of sea bridges. These are large structures which have been installed at coastal area. When we design such vertical cylinder, we should avoid too much construction expense caused by excessive designing or by lack of sufficient design. In order to prevent excessive expenditure, it is important to correctly calculate the force of waves acting on structures and predict the wave transformation. In this study, apply to VOF method based on Navier-Stokes equation and then discussed that nonlinear wave force and wave transformation. A comparison between the numerical model and existing experimental results showed nice agreement among them.

A high-order spectral/boundary-element method is newly adapted as an efficient numerical tool. In this method, the velocity potential is expressed as the sum of surface potential and body potential. Then, surface potential is solved fly using the high-order spectral method and body potential is solved fly using the high-order boundary element method. Through the combination of these two methods, the wave-making problems fly a submerged sphere moving with the large amplitude oscillation are solved in time-domain. With the example calculations, nonlinear effects on free-surface profiles and hydrodynamic forces are shown and discussed.

This study presents experimental results of sloshing phenomenon done on rectangular box. A simple harmonic excitation was done on the box. Two kinds of filling ratio, 20% and 30% of height, were tested. A total of 15 pressure sensors were installed to monitor the impact pressure. Each test was repeated for 20 times to ensure the repeatability. The high speed camera captured the flaw filed and the corresponding pressure were synchronize with video signal so that the video image can help the interpretation of the impact pressure. The two filling ratio made difference in the flaw characteristic and impact pressure. The use of high speed camera made it possible to understand the bubble generation mechanism. The pressure time histories were presented.

This paper presents the experimental results at slamming phenomenon. The air pressure cylinder was used to ensure repeatability of the impact. The results showed that the adopted experimental technique was very excellent in terms of repeatability when is compared to that of the free drop tests. The pressure time histories, magnitude of peak pressure and the behavior of jet spray were obtained. The flat specimen was tested for various incident angles. To estimate the incident speed of the specimen high speed camera was used. The high speed camera was also useful tool in understanding the behavior.

An efficient spline boundary element scheme is newly developed for water wave scattering of an incident wave train on a submerged breakwater. Validation of the present scheme is accomplished through the numerical experiments for various cases, by comparing the numerical results with theories vailable in the literature. Very accurate reflection and transmission coefficients for thin horizontal breakwater are obtained. It is observed that the reflection coefficient for the rectangular breakwater is significantly affected by the thickness. Horizontal and vertical forces on the breakwater for various thicknesses were also investigated.

A particle method recognized as one of gridless methods has been developed to investigate the nonlinear free-surface motions interacting to the structures. The method is more feasible and effective than convectional grid methods in order to solve the flow field with complicated boundary shapes. In the present study, breaking waves with a floating body are simulated to investigate fluid-structure interactions in the coastal zone.

This study describes a simulation of two-dimensional bubble forming and motion by the Lattice Boltzmann Method with the phase field equation. The free energy model is used to treat the interfacial force and deformation of binary fluids system, drawn into a T-junction the micro channel. A numerical simulation of a binary flow in a cross-junction channel is carried out by using the parallel computation method. The aim in this investigation is to examine the applicability of LBM to numerical analysis of binary fluid separation and motion in the micro channel.

This paper describes a recent development on the divergence free basis function based on a hermite stream function. The well-known cavity problem has been used to compare the accuracy and the convergence of the present method with those of a modified residual method known as one of the stabilized finite e1ement methods. The comparison showed the present method performs better in the accuracy and convergence.

Numerical analysis is carried out to identify the wall thinning effect inside the feed water valve. The finite volume method is applied to make analysis for the viscous flows. The commercial cock FLUENT is used for the simulation and the GAMBIT for the grid generation. The RNG
$\kappa-\varepsilon$ model is used for the turbulence and the tet-hybrid grid is applied for the modeling. The velocity vector, the pressure contour, the change of residual along the iteration number, and the dynamic head are predicted for the hydrodynamic investigation. -
Measurements results of flow-structure-interactions (FSI) of an air-lifted body are introduced. An adaptive stereoscopic-PIV system has been constructed for the measurements of the air-lifted body. The measurement system consists of two cameras and optical sensors. The flow characteristics around a lifted cylinder body(length=60mmm, diameter =10mm, polystyrene) in the swirling flow field in a vertical pipe (length=600mm, inner diameter=) are investigated by the use of the constructed adaptive stereoscopic-PIV system. The images of the two cameras were used for the analysis of the flow fields around the floated cylinder body. The images of the cylinder body captured by the two cameras were used for the analyses of its motions. Four optical sensors (LED) were used for the detection of the postures of the freely-lifted cylinder body. The FSI analyses have been carried out to find the physical conditions at which the floating body is stabilized with its upright postures.

선박이 천 흘수 및 수로를 운항하는 경우 바닥과 벽면의 영향으로 인해 선체침하 및 비대칭적인 힘이 선체 주위에 발생하여 바닥이나 다른 선박 혹은 수로의 벽에 충돌하는 현상이 발생한다. 특히, 수로가 많은 유럽이나 북미를 운항하는 해운회사와 항해사들은 선박의 충돌을 방지하기 위해서 중요한 문제로 다루고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 선박의 안전한 항해를 위해 수치해석을 이용하여 선박과 벽면 사이에 발생하는 유체역학적 힘, 즉 Sway force와 Yaw Moment를 정성적으로 추정하고자 하였다. 천 흘수 유동 해석용 프로그램을 작성하였으며, 검증을 위해서 Wigley 선형에 적용하여 h/T별로 계산을 수행하여 시험결과와 비교하였다. 그리고, 벽면효과를 해석 할 수 있는 프로그램을 작성하여 실적선인 원유운반선 2척에 대하여 3가지 파라메터, 즉 선속, 수심 그리고 선박과 벽면 사이 거리의 변화에 따른 다양한 계산을 수행하였다. 계산된 결과는 시험결과 및 기 발표된 수치해석 결과와 비교하였다. 기 발표된 논문에서는 시험결과와 계산결과가 상이한 결론을 보여 주었는데, 그 이유는 수치해석에 있어서 자유표면 문제를 선형화된 자유표면 조건식을 사용한 부분을 가장 큰 이유로 언급하였다. 하지만, 본 연구의 결과는 Sway force와 Yaw Moment가 기 발표된 논문의 시험결과와 정성적으로 일치함을 보여 주었다. 본 연구를 통해 수치해석 방법으로 선박에 작용하는 비대칭 유동에 대한 유체역학적인 힘을 정성적으로 추정할 수 있었고, 제한된 수로에서 선박의 조종성 예측 및 수로 설계시 유용한 정보를 제공할 수 있을 것이라고 판단되어 진다.

This paper deals with the internal oscillating flaw in air chamber and duct of an OWC-type wave energy converter by numerical analysis using commercial CFD code, FLUENT. Whole oscillating flaw from OWC-type chamber to outlet through duct was solved by unsteady analysis in order that performance of wave energy conversion was made better. Results show that whole oscillating flaw field of this system in unsteady condition. Duct shape at setting place of turbine is curved with elbow, because profile of inlet condition to turbine is important in its efficiency. This paper is found internal flaw in air chamber and duct. Also, this research was found effect of duct shape.

This study reviews the properties of coastal ocean and Seomjin River estuary spaces then define some MGIS(Marine Geographic Information System) related terminologies for clarifying the scope of MGIS boundaries. Therefore, we show the three-dimensional circulation of MGIS-based Seomjin River Estuary integrating three-dimensional POM model and observed data.

In order to understand changes of water temperature for thermal discharge of Hadong power plant in Gwangyang and Jinju Bay, it was analyzed for temperature data of representative season by MEM(Maximum entropy method) that is one of the spectral analysises. And due to understand effect of thermal discharge at each point, analyzed spectral data showed reactive energy rate of reference point by calculating energy from 24 time period to height frequency zone. As a result of spectral analysis, it showed that there were 9 points which are largely effected, 7 points which will be estimated, 6 points which is difficult to estimate, 14 points which rarely effected by thermal discharge.

Nakdong river estuary is located at south-eastern coast if the Korea. Especially, Complicating topography change is generated by interaction of much sediment, wave and tide. This study is investigated into observation data of grading size distribution in the post and surface sediment characteristics is investigated into grading size analysis using sieve analysis in Nakong river estuary. As a result, mean diameter of surface sediment is distributed to front of shoal as a size with 0.1~0.2 mm and mean diameter of the last generated shoal is about 0.2~0.3 mm.

본 연구는 기초적인 연구로 낙동강 하구역을 단순 사각형 만의 형상을 가진 지형으로 설정하고 내부 지형의 변화(수심 및 사주 면적)에 따른 해수유동장을 해수유동 수심적분모델로 구축하여 계산하였다. 계산된 유속장 결과를 바탕으로 내부 지형의 대표단면에서의 단면유량플럭스를 계산하여 상호 비교함으로써 하구역내 사주의 생성 및 발달(내부 지형 용적 변화)에 따른 하구역 입구부에서의 해수용적 변화(순환)의 정도를 평가하고자 하였다.

The main external force of the harbor in east coast is wave. So, wave is the important cause of wave induced current and sediment transport due to wave in planning harbor structures. Therefore, it must be considered not only to secure the harbor tranquility but also the sediment transport due to wave induced current in planning the harbor. In this study, we studied on the influences of construction procedure on harbor tranquility and siltation using annual coastal line data and bathymetry data near breakwater. And it suggests that the construction procedure for the harbor tranquility and the best way for the decrease of harbor siltation.

To examine the effect of shape and crest width variation of a permeable submerged breakwater on the wave energy dissipation, Two-Dimensional numerical model with Large Eddy Simulation, which is able to simulate directly WAve Structure Seabed interaction (hereafter, LES-WASS-2D) has been newly developed. A good agreement has been obtained by the comparison between the existing experimental results and LES-WASS-2D model's results for the permeable submerged breakwater. Moreover, based on the LES-WASS-2D model, the wave energy dissipation due to a permeable submerged breakwater are discussed for regular and irregular waves with relation to its crest width and shape.

This study is to investigate the variation characteristics of run-up height over sandy beach due to the plane distribution of submerged breakwaters. In this study, Three-Dimensional numerical model with Large Eddy Simulation, which is able to simulate directly WAve Structure Seabed interaction (hereafter, LES-WASS-3D) has been newly developed. A comparison between the numerical model and existing experimental results was made to verify accuracy of newly proposed LES-WASS-3D model, and showed fairly nice agreement. In addition, based on the LES-WASS-3D model, the variation characteristics of run-up height over sandy beach are discussed with relation to the offshore distance and opening width of submerged breakwaters.

The caisson of the inner wall type has a weak point that reflecting wave is big. Therefore it has been studied that the research of the decreasing reflecting wave using installation the perforated wall in front of caisson to decrease of that weak point. In this study, we analyzed the characteristic of reflection horizontal and diamond style vertical slit caisson using hydraulic model test. According to the results of experiments, we could confirm that diamond style vertical caisson has a reflection coefficient which has lower than horizontal caisson of the reflection coefficient of 5~10%.

The wave power absorbing performance of a bottom-mounted oscillating water column (OWC) chamber structure is studied. The potential problem inside the chamber is solved by making use of the Green integral equation associated with the Rankine Green function while the outer problem with the Kelvin Green function taking account of fluctuating air pressure in the air chamber. The absorbed wave power, wave elevation inside the chamber, reflection coefficient and wave loads are calculated for various values of a parameter related to the fluctuating air pressure. The present methods can also be used for the design of a OWC breakwater which can absorb and reflect the incoming wave energy at the same time.

The primary objective of this study was to gain insight into the characteristics of algal blooms in relation to the marine environment of the Korean Southern Coast, using more than 22 years worth of data since the first known occurrence of algal blooms. Algal blooms tend to occur when the precipitation or water temperature for a ten-day period prior to the annual bloom exceeds the long-term mean value. There are three notable causative species in six different inner bays, namely Prorocentrum sp., Skeletonema costatum, and Heterosigma akashiwo, and in addition, these three species appeared in different conditions of water temperature and salinity at each region.

천해역의 파랑발달에 대한 태풍경로의 영향력을 분석 하였다. 우리나라 남동해안에 주로 피해를 초래할 것으로 판단되는 태풍의 경로를 '남해안 상륙 후 내륙 통과'와 '대한해협통과'로 분류하고 각 경로에 따른 태풍규모와 파랑발달을 1956년 부터 2004년까지의 기상자료를 바탕으로 검토하였다. 태풍 경로의 영향력 분석은 천해역 파랑발달의 주요외력이 지형조건에 의해 결정되므로(즉, 폐쇄해역은 태풍의 바람장이 주요외력이며, 개방해역은 심해 전달파랑과 바람장의 영향을 동시에 받는다), 개방해역과 폐쇄해역의 경우로 나누어 수치모형실험을 통해 수행하였다. 실험조건은 태풍 "매미"의 강도와 특성 값을 기준으로 하였으며, 대상해역은 부산신항 인근해역과 원전항 인근해역을 개방형과 폐쇄형 해역으로 대별하여 실험을 수행하였다. 자료의 분석결과 최근 이상기후현상으로 태풍의 강도가 커지고 있음을 뒷받침 하는 근거는 찾아보기 힘들었으며, 2000년대 이후로 남해안에 상륙하는 경로'1'이 대한해협을 통과하는 경로(경로'2')보다 그 내습빈도가 커지고 있음을 볼 수 있었다. 태풍의 경로와 풍향이 같은 방향인 경로'1'일 때 에너지가 집중되어 태풍중심기압과 풍속과 파고의 증가가 함께 일어난다. 그러나 태풍의 경로와 풍속의 방향이 일치하지 않는 경로'2'의 경우는 에너지가 분산되므로 태풍중심기압과 풍속은 함께 증가하나 파랑에너지는 함께 발달하지 않는 것으로 보였다. 내습한 태풍의 강도를 경로별로 비교한 결과, 경로'1'이 경로'2'보다 큰 강도를 가지고 연악역에 영향을 미치는 것으로 판단되었다.

본 논문에서는 한국 동해 강구항 전면해역에서 계절풍이 탁월한 3월과 태풍 우쿵(WUKONG) 내습시 8월에 수압식 파고계를 이용하여 파랑관측을 실시하였다. 관측파랑자료의 해석을 통해 관측시점에서의 계절풍 및 대풍내습시의 기상현황과 파랑과의 상호관련성, 발생파랑의 통계적 특성을 분석하였다. 그 결과에 따르면 관측기간동안 강구항 전면해역에서는 직립방파제 설계식의 관계식
$H_{max}\;=\;1.8H_S$ 를 초과하는 고파랑이 태풍 내습시 발생하며, 계절풍이 발달한 시기에는 약 3m 파고의 파랑이 발생하였다. -
This research compares oyster farming in Gamak Bay which Hiroshima Bay which has nearly similar marine environments. The marine environment of these two waters has similar variations of air temperature, sea surface temperature, precipitation and salinity. However Hiroshima Bay is higher than Gamak Bay in the sea surface temperature and Hiroshima Bay is also higher than Gamak Bay in the salinity. Their oyster farming method is basically similar but it is different in their facilities. We need to take some measures against high mortalities, and in addition, to enhance the rate of seed collection.

The most important thing in the container terminal is to handle the cargo effectively in the limited time. To achieve this object, many strategies have been introduced and applied to. If we consider the automated container terminal, it is necessary that the cargo handling equipments are equipped with more intelligent control systems. From the middle of the 1990's, an automated rail-mounted gantry crane(RMGC) and rubber-tired gantry crane(RTG) have been developed and widely used to handle containers in the yards. Recently, in these cranes, the many equipments like CCD cameras and sensors are mounted to cope with the automated terminal environment. In this paper, we try to support the development of more intelligent automated cranes which make the cargo handling be performed effectively in the yards. For this plant, the modelling, tracking control, anti-sway system design, skew motion suppressing and complicated motion control and suppressing problems must be considered. In this paper, the system modelling and a tracking control approach are discussed based on two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) servosystem design.

In this study we collected and analyzed cases where typhoons damaged coastal structures in Korea in the past 6 years, and hydraulic model tests were conducted in 2D flume. 2 areas where damage was concentrated were selected from ports that had suffered damage. The selected area was Kyungsang-namdo, where there are a total of 26 national ports. Damage to these two areas was organized by wind direction of the typhoons and the direction of the entrance of the port, and destruction patterns were analyzed. 2D hydraulic model tests were conducted of Deabyeun port, one of the damaged areas. Results were as follows: 1. As a result of survey, ports that had entrances that were open to winddirection of typhoon (Anti-clockwise direction) tended to be damaged mare, whereas ports that blocked by island and ports that were not open to wind direction of typhoon were not damaged. 2. As a result of the tests, there was damage that occurred when using the section of designed section, whereas there was no damage when the TTP weight was increased.
