  • This paper presents the design of the incremental delta-sigma ADC. The proposed circuit consists of pre-amplifier, S & H circuit, MUX, delta-sigma modulator, and decimation filter. Third-order discrete-time delta-sigma modulator with 1-bit quantization were fabricated by a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The designed circuit show that the modulator achieves 87.8 dB signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SNDR) over a 5 kHz signal bandwidth and differential nonlinearity (DNL) of ${\pm}0.25$ LSB, integral nonlinearity (INL) of ${\pm}0.2$ LSB. Power consumption of delta-sigma modulator is $941.6{\mu}W$. It was decided that N cycles are 200 clock for 16-bits output.

  • In this paper, a 10-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with small area is proposed. The 10-bit DAC consists of a 8-bit decoder, a 2-bit time-interpolator, and a buffer amplifier. The proposed time-interpolation is achieved by controlling the charging time through a low-pass filter composed of a resistor and a capacitor. To implement the accurate time-interpolator, a control pulse generator using a replica circuit is proposed to minimize the effect of the process variation. The proposed 10-bit Time-Interpolation DAC occupies 61 % of the conventional 10-bit resistor-string DAC. The proposed DAC is designed using a $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process with a 3.3 V supply. The simulated DNL and INL are +0.15/-0.21 LSB and +0.15/-0.16 LSB, respectively.

  • This paper describes a phase-locked loop (PLL) that generates a 51-phase clock with the operating frequency of 125MHz. To generate 51-phase clock with a frequency of 125 MHz, the proposed PLL uses three voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs) which are connected by resistors. Each VCO consists of 17 delay-cells. An resistor averaging scheme, which makes three VCOs to connect with each other, makes it possible to generates 51-phase clock of the same phase difference. The proposed PLL is designed by using 65 nm CMOS process with a 1.0 V supply. At the operating frequency of 125 MHz, the simulated DNL and peak-to-peak jitter are +0.0016/-0.0020 LSB and 1.07 ps, respectively. The area and power consumption of the implemented PLL are $290{\times}260{\mu}m^2$ and 2.5 mW, respectively.

  • This work proposes an 8b 220 MS/s 230 mW 3-stage pipeline CMOS ADC with on-chip filers for temperature- and power- insensitive voltage references. The proposed RC low-pass filters improve switching noise performance and reduce reference settling time at heavy R & C loads without conventional off-chip large bypass capacitors. The prototype ABC fabricated in a 0.25 um CMOS occupies the active die area of 2.25 $\textrm{mm}^2$ and shows the measured DNL and INL of maximum 0.43 LSB and 0.82 LSB, respectively. The ADC maintains the SNDR of 43 dB and 41 dB up to the 110 MHz input at 200 MS/s and 220 MS/s, respectively, while the SNDR at the 500 MHz input is degraded as much as only 3 dB than the SNDR at the 110 MHz input.

  • This paper describes a 12 bit 1GS/s current mode segmented DAC for WCDMA communication. The proposed circuit in this paper employes segmented structure which consists of 4bit binary weighted structure in the LSB and 4bit thermometer decoder structure in the mSB and MSB. The proposed DAC uses delay time compensation circuits in order to suppress performance decline by delay time in segmented structure. The delay time compensation circuit comprises of phase frequency detector, charge pump, and control circuits, so that suppress delay time by binary weighted structure and thermometer decoder structure. The proposed DAC uses CMOS $0.18{\mu}m$ 1-poly 6-metal n-well process, and measured INL/DNL are below ${\pm}0.93LSB/{\pm}0.62LSB$. SFDR is approximately 60dB and SNDR is 51dB at 1MHz input frequency. Single DAC's power consumption is 46.2mW.

  • In this paper, a 6-Bit CMOS Folding and Interpolating AD Converter is presented. The converter is considered to be useful as an integrated part of a VLSI circuit handling both analog and digital signals as in the case of HDD or LAN applications. A built-in analog circuit for VLSI of a high-speed data communication requires a small chip area, low power consumption, and fast data processing. The proposed folding and interpolating AD Converter uses a very small number of comparators and interpolation resistors, which is achieved by cascading a couple of folders working in different principles. This reduced number of parts is a big advantage for a built-in AD converter design. The design is based on 0.25m double-poly 2 metal n-well CMOS process. In the simulation, with the applied 2.5V and a sampling frequency of 500MHz, the measurements are as follows: power consumption of 27mw, INL and DNL of $\pm$0.1LSB, $\pm$0.15LSB each, SNDR of 42dB with an input signal of 10MHz.

  • A new BIST(Built-In Self-Test) scheme to test ADC(Analog-to-Digital Converter) with a transition detector is proposed. The proposed BIST is able to replaces histogram method, the most popular approach in static testing of ADC. With a ramp signal as an input test stimulus, the proposed BIST calculates ADC's static parameters such as offset, gain, INL(Integral Non-Linearity) and DNL(Differential Non-Linearity). The three detectors in the proposed BIST can deal with a transient zone problem, a phenomenon due to random noise in real test environments and are cost efficient at various acceptable ranges determined as a test spec. The simulation results validate that our method performs accurate static test and show the reduction of the hardware overhead.

  • In this thesis, a modified interpolation-2 6-bit 70MHz ADC is proposed minimizing chip area and power consumption, which includes an error correction circuit. The conventional flash ADC without interpolation comparators suffers from large chip area and more power consumption due to 2n resistors and 2n-1 comparators. Although the flash ADC with interpolation-4 comparators has small area, SNR, INL and DNL are degraded by comparison with the interpolation -2 comparator. We fabricated the proposed 6-bit ADC with interpolation-2 comparators using 0.18${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process. The ADC is composed of 32-resistors, 31 comparators, amplifiers, latches, error correction circuit, thermometer code detector and encoder As the results, power consumption is reduced to 40mW at 3.3V which is saving about 50% than a flash ADC without interpolation comparators, and area is reduced by 20%. SNR is increased by 75% in comparison with that of a flash ADC with interpolation-4 comparators.

  • In this paper, Pipelined A/D converter with multi SHA structure is proposed for high speed operation. The proposed structure incorporates a multi SHA block that consists of multiple SHAs of identical characteristics in parallel to improve the conversion speed. The designed multi SHA is operated by non-overlapping clocks and the sampling speed can be improved by increasing the number of multiplexed SHAs. Pipelined A/D converter, applying the proposed structure, is designed to satisfy requirement of analog front-end of VDSL modem. The measured INL and DNL of designed A/D converter are $0.52LSB{\sim}-0.50LSB\;and\;0.80LSB{\sim}-0.76LSB$, respectively. It satisfies the design specifications for VDSL modems. The simulated SNR is about 66dB which corresponds to a 10.7 bit resolution. The power consumption is 24.32mW.

  • A CMOS 8 bit folding and interpolating ADC for an embedded system inside VLSI is presented in this paper. This folding ADC uses the 2 stage architecture for improving of nonlinearity. repeating the folding and interpolating twice. At a proposed structure, a transistor differential pair operates on the second folder. A ADC with 2 stage architecture reduces the number of comparators and resisters. So it is possible to provide small chip size, low power consumption and high operating speed. The design technology is based on fully standard 0.25m double-Poly 2 metal n-well CMOS Process. The simulated Power consumption is 45mW with an applied voltage of 2.5V and sampling frequency of 250MHz. The INL and DNL are within <ㅆㄸㅌ>$\pm$0.2LSB, respectively. The SNDR is approximately 45dB for input frequency of 10MHz.
