  • This study intends to understand deeply the higher education evaluation accreditation system in Taiwan. Taiwan established newly the Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council in 2005, an independent organization with the exclusive responsibility to execute evaluation. Three kinds of evaluation have been accomplished, including University Program Evaluation which assesses whole university management, Academic Fields Evaluation and Performance Evaluation which compare the superiority and inferiority among universities. The Accreditation system is applied only to Academic Fields Evaluation. For evaluation, each university presents a self-evaluation report, undergoes an visiting evaluation, makes out an evaluation report and lastly is notified of the result. The evaluation is divided into three results : pass, waiting observation and non-pass. According to an announcement in June 2008, the rate of non-pass universities reached the 15.7%. The non-pass universities are supposed to receive the disadvantaged in the admission number limit and take the following evaluation in the following year. Debates still exists concerning the eliminatory nature of the system and the announcement of achievement rankings through evaluation results. Other problems include the improvement of quality of evaluation committee members and the irrational evaluation standards. These problems will be meaningful for the development of the korean higher evaluation system.

  • In the 2015 revised curriculum, software (SW) education was strengthened to cultivate computational thinking. In the curriculum of practical course at elementary school and of informatics course at secondary school, the characteristics, and content systems of SW education have developed systematically. However, it is necessary to study practical methods and cases for SW education because the curriculums provide only note and direction about teaching & learning, and evaluation methods for SW education. The purpose of this study is to analyze the achievement standards of the SW curriculum in the tasks of Bebras Challenge 2017 and to suggest various methods of teaching and learning, and of evaluation using the Bebras tasks. The results of this study are expected to propose a basis to develop various teaching and learning and evaluation researches.

  • This study investigated results of bilingual learning of mathematics in teaching quadratic functions at an international high school in South Korea. Unlike a Korean traditional public school, this international school has provided bilingual learning. 10th grade students enrolled two math classes, Algebra II that was taught in English through CCSS and High School Mathematics I that was taught in Korean through the Korean National Math Curriculum. In order to collect information on students' behaviors and math achievement, we analyzed students' academic back grounds, mathematical abilities, results of interviews, observations, questionnaires and assessments. The results of this study include specific benefits. Bilingual learning of mathematics is effective as a method to improve Korean students' mathematical abilities and attitudes as well as positive influence on Korean mathematics education.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the contents related to a subject 'Earth and Mooon' from elementary science textbooks of the 2009 revised curriculum and elementary science textbooks of the 2015 revised curriculum. For the research, the team selected and analyzed the contents of the 'Earth and Moon' unit in the elementary science textbooks of the 2009 revised curriculum and 2015 revised curriculum. As a result of the research, first, there has been no significant change in achievement standards of the curriculum as the science textbook revised from 2009 curriculum to 2015 curriculum. Second, the two curriculum did not differ much in specific textbook contents statement or development, but they showed much change in presentation of exploration activities in curriculum as well as the specific exploration activities presented in the textbooks. Third, compared to science textbooks of the 2009 revision the 2015 revision used more pictures and illustrations. Forth, there have been few changes related to experimental observation, but the activities to organize the unit in 2015 revision have been strengthened compared to the 2009 revision.

  • The purpose of this study is to specify the procedure for making item models based on ontology models using automatic item generation in the mathematics subject through the CAFA system, and to explore the generated item instances. As an illustration for this, an item model was designed as a part of formative assessment based on the content characteristics, including concepts and calculations, and process characteristics, including application, using the representative values and the measures of dispersion in Mathematics of the 9th grade based on the evaluation criteria achievement standards. The item types generated in one item model were a best answer type, a correct answer type, a combined-response type, an incomplete statement type, a negative type, a true-false type, and a matching type. It was found that HTML, Google Charts, TTS, figures, videos and so on can be used as media. The implications of the use of digital evaluation based on automatic item generation were suggested in the aspects of students, pre-service teachers, general teachers, and special education, and the limitations of this study and future research directions were presented.

  • In line with the social changes due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, foreign countries are strengthening information education for the future of education. This study analyzed the current status of software (SW) and artificial intelligence (AI) education among different types of information education programs in elementary schools of major foreign countries, and compared them with the education provided in Korea. Compared to major foreign countries, Korea allocated very little time for software education in elementary schools, making it difficult to sufficiently cover all areas of the curriculum achievement standards. In addition, other countries recognized the importance of artificial intelligence, an important technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and were providing artificial intelligence education on the basis of software education at the national level. The Korean government is also planning on providing the education at national level, but it was identified that the information education of elementary schools have many problematic issues. This study emphasized the need to establish an information curriculum for elementary schools as a way to address these issues.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct contents of elementary and secondary education which will be included in the information literacy education and to obtain basic information and implications necessary for developing new textbooks. For this study, three types of previously developed textbooks for information literacy education were analyzed, and curriculum content structure, and textbook structure of the draft version of the textbook 'Media and Information Life' developed in 2019-2020 were analyzed. The analysis results are as follows. the information literacy education textbook applied the information problem solving process model and contained the contents of print, and digital media and the media literacy necessary for democratic citizens, but it was necessary to add the types of libraries and media in sequence. Second, library, media, information, and reading literacy were major learning elements that made up the contents of the information literacy curriculum. Third, the "media and information life" textbook needed to present subject competencies, generalized knowledge, content system, and achievement standards in accordance with the system of the 2015 revised curriculum. In addition, social discussion was needed to derive the name of the information literacy curriculum.

  • In a situation in which online classes were suddenly introduced due to COVID-19, there were many cases where learners did not properly learn science process skills that were not presented in the achievement standards for reasons such as reducing the number of class hours. It is difficult to expect positive science inquiry ability and science attitude from learners who have entered middle school without understanding the process skills. Therefore, in this study, the effect on science inquiry ability and science attitude was investigated by developing worksheets with enhanced process skills and applying it to learner-centered teaching linked online and offline. As a result, it was confirmed that there was a statistically significant positive difference between both. Based on this research, it is expected that students will pay attention to the process skills, which is the basis of science subjects, and continue to experience the process skills through learning-centered classes.

  • In the 2022 revised curriculum general study released by the Ministry of Education in September 2021, environmental issues are emerging as a socially important topic, with climate and environmental education appearing at the forefront along with software education. In this study, by applying Python Monte Carlo simulation, a program for high school students was developed that combines environmental education and software education emphasized in the 2022 revised curriculum. The developed program verified the validity of the program with Lawshe's Content Validity Ratio for science, environment, and information subject education experts, and the verification results showed that the program meets the development purpose, environment, and information subject achievement standards.
