The current environmental issue is how a dwelling adapts into a given climate in which the design is applied by ecology without damaging the natural environment. In another word, the main issue in the twenty first century will be how we meet the human needs to dwellings applied by the residential environment. Therefore, we have to provide a hospitable place for residents' mental and physical health through "Green Design," emerging as the critical design of urban collective dwellings. Based on these conceptions, the purpose of this study is to suggest the way of designing the urban collective dwelling applied by ecology, proffering wealthy life style to residents with the preservation of natural environment as applying an ecological concept into the design of collective dwellings that represent a contemporary housing type for urban residents. In order to design the urban collective dwelling applied by ecology, this study introduces the outdoor design in friendly surroundings, the collective construct of a delightful housing, and the organic connection between inside and outside rooms.

This study is aimed to provide a guide for PC use space in apartment. To achieve this, a design about PC use space which was considered adequate location, area, form was suggested. As methods of the study, survey research method and case study. The survey was taken by five hundred-eighty-nine people who used PCs in apartment from May 2005 to July 2005 in Je-Ju province for an analysis of data. The results of the survey were showed PC use space situation and furnitures layout patterns. The case was classified by unit plans of size, and it showed design example of PC use space. In case of the 20s pyeong(about 3.30 square meters) type, PC use space was located in dead-space in the residence with minimum scale, because of 20s pyeong types are smaller than the other types. In case of the 30s pyeong type, PC use space which was divided with a partition panel was located in the livingroom expanding the room space to the balcony. In case of the 40s pyeong type, PC use space was located in the room of sons or daughters which was arranged with other furniture. The adequate area of PC use space is 1.4
$^{\sim}$ 2.2 square meters, and it should take into account furniture size and human active sphere. And PC use space of form should consider traffic line, personal space and privacy. Besides it is required of ergonomic design in chair, table in its scale. And it is necessary development of systematic furniture for PC use space. -
With the change of family type and diversify of life style, residents need various unit plan in Quality. A rate of economically productive women has increased, and generally double-income households will continuously increase in the future. So a research is requested to consider the double-income households's satisfaction for a unit plan based on their life characteristics. The purpose of this study is to find out double-income households's lifestyles, and to search and analyze users' needs for spatial composition according to their lifestyles, and then, embody spatial composition of Apartment Unit plans. The findings are as follows. (1) Housing lifestyles of users living in apartment are categorized into 5 types: seeking the way to make housework easy and comfortable, making the best use spatial composition, pursing the universalism, housework oriented, pursing the leisure. (2) The type of seeking the way to make housework easy and comfortable requests facility with home appliances and a shower bath, the type of making the best use spatial composition requests storage space and trial about new plan, the type of pursing the universalism is concerned about the protection of environment and a memorial service, the type of housework oriented wants a talk with their family and discuss some problem, and the type of pursing the leisure requests division of household with their family and likes traveling and sports.

The purpose of this study is to suggest complementary measures to the statute legalizing the expansion of living space to balcony, by means of survey on the recognition and preference of preliminary applicants for new apartments. The survey was done on 130 preliminary applicants who visited 3 model houses opened in Cheongju in June to July, 2006. Conclusions are as follows. (1) Most of preliminary applicants knew that the expansion of living space to balcony were legalized, but were not quite aware of legal details, so that more active publicity is needed by the government. In addition, if the government has a plan to impose tax to expanded space, it has to make clear the definition of the balcony space. (2) Preliminary applicants wanted space expansion of living room, main bed room and children's bed room in order, which implies that constructors have to suggest variety of expansion plans overpassing simple space expansion. (3) Preliminary applicants attached importance on the safety of expanded space. The management office is recommended to have the right to superintend its safety after construction.

Family day care centers, in apartment complexes, which are popular in korea, have merits as day care centers for young children due to their homey environments, closeness to children's homes, and available outdoor playground utilizing open space in the complexes. Thus, It is great potential to develop design guideline of family day care in apartment which are in demand now, The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for develop of design guideline family day care center. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate important the point of issues that influence the development of design family day care center. The study of the point of issues are environment behavior, Murtha & Lee' User Benefit Criteria, and Pattern theory. As a result, this study provide basic data of develop design guideline of family day care and important data of next study.

Since 1970, concentrated development in Gang-nam caused serious differences with Gang-buk, such as housing environment, education, culture, industry, economy, and consumption behavior as well as Urban Infrastructure. In this result, the government has executed New Town project to solve these matters, but the residents' opinion wasn't reflected. The purpose of this study is to research New Town project district residents' consciousness and prefered image for housing and this research will be applied to basic study for housing environment improvement policy in future. The results of this study are summerized as follows : First, living satisfaction is revealed almost low level, and the most demands for improvement are to solve lacks of park and green yard. Second, image of Gang-nam, which of housing environment is better than Gang-buk, is expressed as the words, 'Complicated', 'Complex', 'Polished', 'Convenient', 'Rich'. Third, prefered types of housing are high-rise Residental Complex, Apartment mixed with detached housing, and tower-type apartment. And These are connected with there values

"Purpose of this study was to investigate influence on preference of cohousing (eg. intention to spread and intention to move in cohousing) according to sense of community by married people residing in Seoul and its outskirts. Research method used for this study was a social survey. Respondents were 214 people by accidential sampling. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program using frequency, mean, average, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Range test and Multiple Regression. Findings of this study were as follows. 1) Though respondents took part in interaction meetings rarely, they took part more often in meetings for health issue, leisure and hobby. Members of meetings were mostly job colleagues. 2) The respondents were interested in meetings for exchange of used stuffs, and children and the youth program most. It was revealed that the group taking part in meetings more often have higher sense of community than others. 3) Respondents who were older, who have been living longer in the same town had higher sense of community as well as closer interaction with neighbors than others. 4) As respondents showed positive response about preference of cohousing, there was a difference between intention to spread and intention to move in cohousing. While women, more educated, less income, and higher sense of community groups showed higher intention to spread cohousing, home owner and higher sense of community groups showed higher intention to move in cohousing.

This is a basic study to investigate possibility to application of cohousing model into Korea. Purpose of this study is to grasp respondents' housing value, and its influence on intention to live in cohousing. Research method used for this study was a social survey. Respondents were 214 married people residing in Seoul and its outskirts by accidential sampling. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program using frequency, mean, average, factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, multiple regression and logit analysis. Result of this study was as follows. Housing values were classified into three categories named as individualism oriented housing value, tradition oriented housing value, and economy oriented housing value. Housing values were different by respondents groups. For example, individualism oriented housing value showed difference according to age and housing area. Tradition oriented housing value showed difference according to sex, occupation, and period of residence, while economy oriented housing value showed difference according to number of family members, housing type, and home ownership. In detail, men than women, single-income family than double-income family, and detached house resident than flat resident had higher tradition oriented housing value. The younger than the elder, and Seoul resident than outskirts resident had higher economy oriented housing value. Also home owner than tenant, and the higher tradition oriented group had stronger intention to live in cohousing than others.

Many alternatives on the residential open building have been researched for corresponding high flexibility and possibility of remodeling in Korea as well. However, existing researches only dealt with two-dimensional floor plan. All buildings as well as apartment housing must have been examined various spatial aspect, three-dimensional not two-dimensional. It will examine basic method of three-dimensional flexible unit system to add to three-dimensional usage method overcoming these limitations. The purpose of this study is to propose the system of three-dimensional residential open building in Korea after examining possibility of flexibility of residential open building in 1.5 times of existing floor height.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristic of living environment on nursing homes and to examine the current status and problems of the nursing homes by looking into the differences in the spatial uniqueness of living environment in relation to the characteristics of the nursing home. This study utilized a mail survey during July 29 - August 31, 2006 that included a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire largely dealt with the general feature of the facility and the elderly who live there, and the spatial feature of the facility. The study limited its survey to those facilities that were registered to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, which opened after 1995 and that had the capacity of more than 30 people. As a result, the questionnaire was sent to the directors of 344 facilities who were in charge of the nursing home operation and planning. 182 facilities returned the questionnaire and the study used'182 questionnaires for data analysis. The study used the SPSS 12 program to draws the frequency, percentage of the answers and utilized the cross-tab, t-test, ANOVA to analyze the differences.

Kitchen space is one of the most dangerous places for the elderly. Modification of kitchen space for improving safety and independence for older residents is very important factor for aging -in-place. The purpose of this study wes to identify the current situation and modification of kitchen space by elderly-headed household. The sample included 108 respondents over the age 65 who consisted of elderly-couple or single person household with homeownership in Seoul. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Based on the findings of the study, the present incidence and recognition of future need in kitchen modification were identified. Changes in kitchen space made tended to be nonstructural or relatively inexpensive items. In conclusion, this study suggests several ideas for improving current physical problems of kitchen space to support daily living of older residents.

The purpose of this study is to introduce ubiquitous home services for the aged. In comparison with general ubiquitous homes, ubiquitous homes for the aged have two major characteristics. First, the service contents should be expanded and strengthened. Second, the services should be customized to each individuals. The primary objective of a ubiquitous home for the aged is health care. The three affordances for this objective are 1)prevention of sickness and reducing the speed of aging process, 2)technical assistance for disability, 3)recovering and enhancing the physical and cognitive function. For this purpose this paper analyses the characteristics of the aged and current ubiquitous technology and ubiquitous home service, thus providing an outline for ubiquitous services necessary for aged people.

In the design guideline for the existing elderly house, the guideline related to kitchen is very important in the secure and functional aspect. In spite of importace, the present elderly house's Kitchen plan is being designed based on foreign universal design guideline or common housing form instead of considering physical social and psychological qualities of the korean elderly. Therefore, In this study based on the guideline of the previous studies related to domestic elderly house and kitchen plan for elderly house, we found physical social and psychological qualities of the korean elderly. Acooording to these characteristics we suggested guideline on kitchen plan for Elderly House. Those suggested here will be applied to design guidelines of elderly housing on kitchen plan in future.

The purpose of this study is to set up systematically housing adaptation items for the aged family. Housing adaptation items are classified by universal design principles. Also, this paper suggest to basic data for setting up various ranges according to each elderly people's conditions, adapting for elderly housing. Recently, in relation to the growing awareness of the ageing population, the necessity of policies for "aging in place" was emphasized by government. This paper is focused on the policy of elderly housings' adaptation for making housing for a lifetime. This new adaptation items for the elderly housing lead to the revitalization of policy ensuring housing in stock at the local authority level. In this paper, adaptation items were created after analyzing indices highlighted by previous studies related to evaluation items, design-guidelines for safety plans, designing elderly housing. The scope of adaptation items was limited to the indoor spaces of apartment due to the considerable increase of in-house accidents. To sum up, this study is aimed to set up adaptation items and then, to present the basic scheme for several users offering various ranges

The purpose of this study is to find out the leisure activity for middle-aged from 45-65 living in the house. The survey had been conducted in 135 respondents with Questionnaire during September 25th to October 7th, 2006. Frequency, Cluster Analysis and Cross tabulation were obtained from the data using SPSS program. The Questionnaire consists of leisure activity and leisure location based on 3 properties of leisure. The results of this study are as follows. First, frequency the respondents is differed by demographic characteristics. Those who have higher level of education, subjective economic power and are younger were more active. Second, the leisure activity in the house is higher in passive on 1st, intellectual and emotional on 2nd, mass media and social activity on 3rd property. Respondents regard home as not a active space but a relax space. Third, the most preferred location in the house for leisure is living-room. Next, master-room and dinning-kichen are. Because of women who spend time more than men in living. Therefore, designing living space for elderly is considered various leisure type of residents.

With the progress of the aging society into the aged society, the planning of senior housing is inevitably required. Among the factors of planning, color appeals to people's vision which mostly accepts information about the environment, so age-related color vision changes should be studied. The purpose of the study is to find out characteristics of color perception focused on yellow and blue with advancing of the yellowed eye sight in the old age. The findings are as follows. (1) Regardless of gender, losses of color perception in sensitivity is occurred as aging is proceeded. But the rate of reduction is mitigated compared with the ex-research in Japan because of the promotion of physical health. (2) Human lens coloration was not common until 85 years old and the hue of yellow and red was easily perceived by the older subjects. (3) Yellow is more preferred to other colors by the elderly and accuracy of yellow-color perception is higher than that of blue-color. (4) It is especially hard for the elderly to perceive the difference between pure blue and mixture of blue-green. Therefore blue and blue-green should not be adopted simultaneously in senior housing environment. Except for the space which specially requires carefulness, various color preferred by the elderly should be applied to the senior housing environment to satisfy their psychological condition and provide the vitality of life.

Color can stir up the feeling and the thinking of the human inside, and heals human's illness. The color of architecture is a systematic physical space of shape and color. In other words, color is a kind of visual language organizing a structure and interact with human. The color of hospital can be specially effective to heal the elderly. This study intends to help geriatric hospital in future to elevate remedial value and indicate basic data for adapted the elderly environment. NCS is a kind of color system based on the human psychology and nature. This study researched the color of geriatric hospital with NCS and annualized the color nuance of each spaces. As a result the distribution of color nuance show the present of the geriatric hospital's color planning.

The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between the lifetime housing experience and the attitudes for housing in one's old age, For this, it analyzed the characteristics of housing experience from the first housing after marriage to present housing and estimated the attitudes for housing in one's age in the future, The survey through interview has been conducted from 89 respondents with questionnaire during October to November, 2004, Frequency, Crosstabs were obtained from the collected data using SPSS/WIN program, The results were as follows, First, it was found that there was a difference in the characteristics of housing experience according to each stage of lifetime, Second, It was found that the degree of housing movements showed the difference in the housing preference in one' old age.

attention to the elevation of the Quality of living, various ways to revitalize the community spirit are found including reforming hardhearted neighborhoods and overcoming the dreariness of city. With the development of the internet and the spread(dissemination) of "digital home", the communities in cyber space are especially active since we are living in an information-oriented society. To consolidate the communities in apartment complexes, this study tries to find revitalization methods of the cyber community by analyzing the contents of the web sites, understanding the cyber community. The cyber contents that are provided come from three main companies that develop the internet apartments. These are compared and analyzed. The related cyber communities("cafe") are also analyzed. The results are as follows. 1)Though they have some differences on details, the content provided from internet companies can be categorized as introduction to the apartment complex, personal service, community, club and internet shopping. 2)The contents on the cyber community made by the residents are mostly for clubs and chatting since they are made for communication between residents. 3)To revitalize the cyber community, the content that gets more attention from the residents needs to be subdivided into groups.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the digitalizing model of Belonging relationship information. for this study, the psychological demands of people are analysed based on the premise that the formation of various space is made by mental needs rather than functional needs. The Digitalized Belonging relationship information model consisted of such structuring factors, the visual relationship information, the accessible relationship information and the opening ratios of spaces As a result, the suggested digitalizing model will be considered as an efficient tool for the objective analysis of Belonging relationship between space. In addition, the model will contribute to the expansion of terminology in the field of digital space design

Existing model houses have played an important role in allow the customers to choose apartment. As the information technology has been advanced (e.g. a high-speed internet available in unit), customers' personality and preference to the design of apartment and the purchasing pattern have been changed. Construction firms have introduced VR(Virtual Reality) model house (e.g. Quick Time Virtual Reality) to meet the customers' expectation and need. The reality-based QTVR model house does not provide enough quality to satisfy the customers' expectation. To complement the shortcoming of the QTVR model house, this study presents a web-based cyber model house developed by using Turntool and Javascript. The cyber model house allows to communicate between supplier and customer over the internet.

This study was to find out users' satisfaction on the dormitory high school in Jeonju City and to propose it's physical environmental improvement directions. This was performed by a questionnaire survey method, and the questionnaire was designed by researchers considering relative literatures. Data were collected from 200 students, who had been dwelling 4 high school dormitories in Jeonju City. By analyzing those data, findings were as follows : 1) Users of students were satisfied the whole of their dormitory; facilities, spaces, and living. 2) They were highly concerned about a library and a personal unit space in their dormitory. 3) They needed their personal unit space to be designed bedroom+bathroom type with 2 persons' sharing and be equipped one story bed and desk furniture. Also, they needed improvement on heating & cooling, small space and indoor air quality of unit space. 4) The users' satisfaction on unit space were 3.23, and the space utility and the space size of functional factor and the heating/ventilation of technical factor were highly effected their satisfaction.

This study was to find out contemporary planning trends of rural houses in Na-po Munhwa village by analyzing their floor plan shapes and space relations & elements. There were built 240 houses in that village, but it were possible to collect housing data, floor plans & general building records of 120 houses, from house register. By analyzing those data, findings were as follows : 1) Floor plan shapes of rural houses had a tendency to 'ㅋ' shape type than simple box or transformed box types, and Room-Living-Room arrangement of centered living were very strong trends in those plans. 2) Public spaces, L.D.KThe Beautiful rest room is simple how to think. We need to understand that excretion is important as much as eating. When we didn't have foods, eating was important in itself no matter what our lives environments. But now we want to eat in more dignified and more cultural place. Most of restaurants spend money on adjusting place for the consumes' desire. It is same way about rest room, it is time to change our rest room to place of rest and speculation over the place which we fix our natural urge. We can fix our natural urge, take a rest, and get creative ideas in more convenient, more healthy and more comfortable. It is time for us to change out thought about rest room; it is not dirty and stink place, but civilized living place like developed country. Also, we need new concept to take a triangular position about rest room is one of structure over just decorations. This research suggest new public rest room without precedent based on instance analysis about rest room inside and outside the country.A change is performed in socially a lot of places by elevations about the quality of life. Most construction balls are created mainly to spaces for an individuality or a specific community, but a space for public convenience is the situation that will gain gradually. While these public space increases, there is a public toilet to an increasing trend too. Think about Cubic Puzzle that it is one total space, and put one function to each Module. The small-scale Cubic space achieves a lot of changes by any energies, and a small-scale space compounds through energies to affect mobile and expansion, and the changed Cubic space does diversification of suitable mobile toilet space configuration to a local need in order to look.Fields of domestic construction supervision are divided into architecture, electricity, information and communication and fire by the individual laws. Between each supervision are lack of relationship. So it bring about performance degradation, supervision fee increasing and dispute. The purpose of this basic research is to suggest the integration method of each supervision.Recently, housing market & circumstances considering society change have changed dramatically. Such changes have affected system exchange of apartment housing greatly and promoted new housing system breaking with bearing wall structure. From this point of view, this study examined ultimate systematic items for promoting better housing system after extracting existing building regulation and housing regulation. This study only analyzed system change considering skeleton(support) with housing regulation, building regulation and fire service law. Consequently, apartment housing will intend residential open building breaking with existing bearing wall structure by promoting change of skeleton & infill system afterward.The purpose of this study is to make realistic analysis of qualitative value for apartment view. This study is conducted in two ways. First, 6 apartment complexes in Daegu metropolitan city are selected as research subject. And then the following 4 activities are made in order: picture-data establishment, declared-price research, market-price research, and survey. Second, realistic analysis of qualitative value included in apartment price is made based on the above data. And then the value is compared with apartment's declared price which is a current tax index. The result shows that the view value included in apartment price is realistically different depending on many variables such as story/side, plot planning of apartment complex, view element, unlike the declared price mainly focused on story.The Qualitative improvements of outdoor spaces are unsatisfactory in comparison with that of indoor environment in existing apartments. Lately construction companies are differentiating the outdoor spaces of apartment complexes to meet needs of residents. However, high-rise buildings inherently have limitations on providing exposure to the outdoor settings and inappropriate lightings could have serious impacts on physical and psychological health of residents. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide useful information for the luminous environment of outdoor spaces through the analysis of current apartment complexes' lighting plans. Outdoor space of branded apartment complexes in Seoul, built after the year 2003, were researched. Through site visits, illumination level and lighting plans were investigated classified into entry area, passage area, plaza, rest area, exercise area, and play area. With the result, illumination level of apartment complexes researched was lower than KS illumination standard in all areas and the lighting plans were mostly shown in different condition of first intended lighting plan because of insufficiency of maintenance in lighting system. Therefore, it is need to provide better luminous environment to make outdoor space more lively and energetic at the night time.This study is intended to analyze the characteristics of the preference according to the locations of view points, which are the current criteria for the evaluation of the view. To this end, a total of fifty one test cases according to view point locations were sampled based on the picture data collected in previous studies, and preference assessment was conducted on these cases to identify preference characteristics, where a five-point Lickert-scale evaluation was performed for each test case, and three test cases for each type were comparatively evaluated. It is deemed that the findings from this study may be used to finally derive qualitative assesment scale for the view seen from apartment units.This study is intended to understand the intrinsic attributes of the view from the apartment unit in consideration of the diverse and complex elements of the view. To this end, the Questionnaire survey was conducted to identify the tendency in the recognition by apartment dwellers. The Questionnaire survey was conducted for the apartment residents to identify their interest in and the general trend in their recognition of the view from the living rooms of their housing unit, where Questionnaire items regarding landscape elements, the distances to and location of the landscape elements, and floor locations were compiled on the basis of the results from the field survey in the previous study. Consequently, the following results have been derived. 1) Apartment residents recognize not only natural landscape elements but also artificial elements, and prefer natural elements to artificial ones. 2) It is also indicated that they recognize the distances to and locations of landscape elements and that the satisfaction for the distance and location varies depending on the type of the landscape elements. 3) Furthermore, the floor of each unit is shown to result in certain differences in the recognized landscape elements. The cross-analysis between the floor and satisfaction indicates that the higher the floor, the more satisfied the residents are with the view.Since townscape planning zones were introduced in 2000 by a revised Urban Planning Law, interest and understanding on townscape have been enhanced in Korea. Driven by this trend of the time, interest in townscape planning has been growing in the area of urban planning, and local governments have been expressing their interest in townscape management. This study is intended to provide criteria for setting goals of constructing desirable urban environments in harmony with existing condition in Chung-ju City. To this end, questionnaire surveys and awareness research were administered and following findings were obtained in relation to user-specific preferences on view targets and view points for townscape planning in Chung-ju City. In general, citizens of Chung-ju City were found to prefer townscape frequently in use practically, while residents in other areas preferred such townscape as linked with the city' s overall reputation. Both groups were found to prefer natural landscape (Gaemyeongsan, Namsan, etc.) to artificial one as a view target, and Chung-ju Terminal and the neighborhoods and downtown(Seongseo-dong) were presumably preferred as a view point.The construction of settlement house in a permanent rental housing development area started between 1989 and 1992, planning of supplying two hundred fifty thousand residences, settlement house became compulsory as a welfare facilities. As a part of Welfare program for low income families, number of settlement housing increased dramatically, also domiciliary welfare center was beginning to set up as a branch of settlement housing to strengthen its service towards families and local communities, thus numerous social welfare organizations play a crucial part in resolving a welfare problem for low income families while satisfying local community's needs. However, despite of these efforts, the number if institutions cannot handle demand of local community's needs and number of welfare institution programs. as a solution, the alternation of space is being used, however, it did not solve basic problem, even worsen in terms of space efficiency.The purposes of this research are, first, to investigate the present condition of indoor thermal environment in winter. Second, to find out how residents' knowledge, consciousness, and behavior changed after provided with education and information of indoor climate. Finally, to reveal how this changes make alteration to their indoor environment. Thirty apartments were collected, and then divided into three groups as Control Group, Education Group, and Edu-information Group in order to conduct the purposes. Provided education and environmental information turn out to have a positive effect to residents' knowledge, consciousness, and behavior, and consequently, it leads residents to control their indoor environment more actively in some cases. Thus, it is important to provide residents with environmental education and information, and it should be conducted regularly in order to maximize the positive effect of education since it tends to decrease as time goes by.The protection of the environment is one of today's key demanding international activities and interests. All of aspects including industry, economy and society should be changed into environmental friendly industries. The building is not exception in this trend. What is not generally realized is that building, in the lifecycle of construction, use and demolition, account for large construction, not considered with environment impact and conservation in the lifecycle. Expecially, the construction materials and components used in the construction stage has much embodied energy. And much
$CO_2$ emit on the production of the construction material and component. The energy use and$CO_2$ emission would continuously diminish the limited natural resources and impact the environment such as ozon layer destruction. In this paper, it studied the estimation of the amount of energy use and$CO_2$ emission in the building construction stage, it would provide the estimation process and applied with the multifamily housing.In case of Korea, immovable property like location, land prise or investment value is more highly estimated than quality of life of residents for performance and value of apartment house, because of limited land area or high density of population. But the high level of life has recently caused the increasing demand in better life. As there is no cases to provide the house in bulk due to the housing market condition, it is necessary to evaluate performance and value of structure, disaster prevention safety, habitability, antiquated condition of building and equipment, maintenance condition and so on that has importantly influence on resident's life quality. So, this study aims to understand the actual condition of environmental performance for the present apartment by comparing the designated apartment, which is ready to have completed in Daegu, with the mixed use residential building, which gained the best grade for green building certification system. Also by analyzing and evaluating a right to enjoy sunshine, floor impact noise etc. and indoor air quality.The purposes of this study were to make clear the present condition of the TVOC and HCHO concentration after remodeling in apartment houses and to analyze the relation of concentrated ascension and remodeling elements. The field measurements of TVOC and HCHO concentration were carried out in 4 subject apartment houses according to the Korea Test Method Standard for Indoor Air Quality. The results are as follows; the TVOC concentration after remodeling ranged from mean 0.35ppm to mean 5.08ppm and increased of 0.35$^{\sim}$ 5.08ppm. The concentration of 3 subjects exceeded the Indoor Air Quality Management standard for the newly-built apartment houses (0.7ppm). The HCHO concentration after remodeling ranged from mean 0.13ppm to mean 0.43ppm and increased of 0.06$^{\sim}$ 0.26ppm. The concentration of 2 subjects exceeded the Standard (0.16ppm). As results of analysis on the relation of concentrated ascension and remodeling elements, the amount and the types of finishing materials and adhesives affected concentrated ascension. Also, production method for installed or purchased furniture had certain effect on the TVOC and HCHO concentration ascension.The purpose of this study were to make clear the present condition of indoor thermal and air environment by air-conditioning in school classrooms and to analyze the relation of the living conditions with indoor environment. The measurements on physical elements and observations on living conditions were carried out in 6 classrooms of 3 middle or high schools. Measuring elements were indoor temperature, relative humidity,$PM_{10}$ and$CO_2$ concentration. As results, the averages of indoor temperature each classrooms were 24.9${\sim}$ 26.6 . Most of classrooms were lower than the Maintenance standard(26${\sim}$ 28 ) of School Health Law. The means of relative humidity were 51.3${\sim}$ 72%, all classrooms were ranged within the standard(30${\sim}$ 80%). The means of$PM_{10}$ concentration were 3.5${\sim}$ 23.1${\mu}g/m^3$ , all classrooms were kept within the standard(100${\mu}g/m^3$ ). The means of$CO_2$ concentration were 1218.7${\sim}$ 4705.4 ppm, all classrooms were exceed the standard(1,000ppm). The results of analysis on relations of living conditions with the physical elements are as follow; the air conditioner set of temperature, windows and doors opening elapsed time, the number of students in classrooms and activities of students had certain effect on indoor environment.Various buildings constructed by environmentally friendly resources are being built in KOREA. Especially the building made by the wood, which has environmental characteristics that the reinforced concrete and brick doesn't have, are acknowledged with its superiority. Then, studies on indoor thermal control capability of the wooden building and influence of its indoor environment to sensory environment of occupants are not enough proceed. Thus, there were proceeded 24 hours measurements for indoor and outdoor thermal environmental elements of Log Cabins and the hourly subjective tests to evaluate indoor amenity of occupants in this study. The results of the study are following: 1) Upon evaluation on thermal environment elements, indoor and outdoor dry bulb temp were 22.0$^{\circ}C$ and -2.9$^{\circ}C$ , and Indoor and outdoor average relative humidity were 25.8%and 52.7%. Differences of indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity were 24.9$^{\circ}C$ and 26.9%. 2) Upon contrastive analysis between the results of subjective tests, warm and cold sensation vote, and PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD (Predicted Percent Dissatisfaction), values of subjective tests W.9An electrical bill is one of the various factors that influence on energy use of residents. This study focused on electrical bills and searched that whether electrical bills affect resident behavior of operating air conditioner and their controlled indoor climate. We surveyed two groups for field study ; the one is residents who live in a studio apartment in Seoul and they are charged for electric as energy consumption they used, and the other is residents who live in a university dormitory and they are not charged for their energy consumption. We measured how long they used the air conditioner for cooling, on/off temperature of air conditioner and room temperature for these two groups. Residents were interviewed about their cooling needs, decisions about when to turn on their air conditioner and so on. We found that dormitory group has much amount of time used the air conditioner than studio apartment group and there are differences of room temperature between two groups when they turn on or off air conditioner. The result shows that perception of money affects resident behavior of operating air conditioner and their acceptable thermal range.A Study on the Envelop to Improve Interior Environment Performance of High-rise Residential BuildingThe architectural difference between the existing residence and high-rise residential building causes changes on environmental conditions such as ventilation and insulation. The object of this study is to present the improvement on envelop of high-rise residential buildings to reduce heating and cooling load. To improve the environmental performance of envelop, it is necessary to modify envelop vent system and ensure intermediate space. In this study, the shape of vents in high-rise residential buildings has been inspected, and the survey about the interior environmental conditions related to the envelop of high-rise residential building has been conducted. Environmental measurement has been done to examine out door air quality for natural ventilation.Recently, an apartment has been changed to be high and diverse. In addition, it has been popularized rapidly. The more number of residents are increased, the more danger of the fire is also increased. If residents are in the upper floor when a fire breaks out, they have much longer evacuation path than the usual. What is more, their condition becomes more unstable. so, riskiness of evacuation is very serious. We should set up environment of evacuation safely. Even though some evacuation system is set up , the dangerous situation is more likely to be occurred. Because it depend on the person. If the person in the building don't recognize that system, it's valueless. Therefore it's very important to understand residents' conciousness level which is related to flee for safety in the fire. In this study, we examine into residents' aware safety level by their residential type. And according to this data, let residents know how they escape from danger . As a result, they can get out of danger when a fire breaks out.Multiplex use facility emphasized the importance of indoor air environment because many people using that place. People using parking lot of multiplex use facility in little time, but a pollutant of in indoor air menacing user health. This study measure and analyze the CO,$CO_2$ for better air quality of an indoor parking lot in the multiplex user facility. As a result, two-way opened above ground parking lot is higher numerical value of CO,$CO_2$ than an underground parking lot. And a parking lot of square form is higher numerical value of$CO_2$ than a parking lot of rectangle form.In our previous research, office workers are relatively frequent in self-reported symptoms suggestive of MCS/IEI compare to construction worker who highly exposed to VOCs compounds. However in that research, the subjects were too small to say it clearly. Based on that research results, self reported symptom surveys to 110 office workers and personal exposure concentration measurement were conducted to 13 of people. VOCs exposure levels were measured within office, house and other places during a week by Passive Sampling Method. In this study, it was found that the number of office workers who met the operational criteria of MCS/IEI was 23.6% similar to 24.5% of previous result, and average of TVOC concentration was appeared high state by order of office, house, and personal exposure.A few methodologies have been recently developed to estimate the environmental affect when various materials and components are used in building life cycle. The direct survey method has limitations to analyze the environmental problems because of the limit of survey scope and cost. Therefore, another indirect method has been developed as alternatives. The indirect method is represented as input-output analysis. This paper aimed at analyzing the estimation the environmental affect of building materials and works at building construction, utilizing the input-output analysis as a indirect estimation method. The results suggested that the building works is overally responsible for the energy consumption and$CO_2$ emission. In other words, Over the 80% of the total consumption and$CO_2$ emission are resulted at the building work.Dwelling refers to a way of being that has to do with a cautious and guarded attitude. The aim of this paper is to study the meaning of dwelling through Heidegger's concept of dwelling and the interpretations of C. Norberg-Schulz and M. Cacciari about it.zArchitect Kim lung-up used free-curved lines as his architectural language. We can categorize his language into 'overlapped curved lines' and 'juxtaposed circles.' We found that his language was expressed well when he applied a specific material, for example, overlapped curved lines - concrete and juxtaposed circles - brick. Furthermore, using the plasticity of concrete, he built roofs and columns in a curved form. He also created reliefs on the walls out of the characteristics of bricks. It can be evidence that he considered forms and characteristics of materials to design buildings. But community facilities and fitness center which are situated in the beginning are alienated by residents because the designers plan community facilities without considering about residents' life-style and preference. In this paper, the study includes present status of fitness center and residents' preference for proper fitness center design. The result presents that fitness center users in apartment complex want a resting space which is already located in fitness center of mixed-use residential building. A resting space provides conditions that users can make up with the community each other as well as they can rest after exercise. And the fitness center users prefer wood as interior finish material of floor and wall in exercising space and resting space because they have a feeling comfortable and splendid.This study aims to analyze the current status and characteristics of apartment house unit plans towards spatial differentiation. The 172 house units from 32 housing complexes were selected for this analysis. In this study, factors of residential space plan especially in an apartment house are categorized into general characteristics on floor plan and factors for spatial floor plan. The Primary findings are as follows: (1) General characteristics on floor plan are analyzed based on space organization, area and number of bays. Among apartment houses over 40 pyeong, it seems that differentiation is well applied with various space plans available. (2) A result of an analysis on the factors for spatial floor plan shows that planning a living room with two-open-sides seems to be more common in the tower-shaped apartment blocks which are now on the increase. Moreover, many of them are adopting movable partitions to reflect resident's various demands on space plan. Among all, the extra kitchen in the balcony is planned high portion of 80.4%. And diningroom is positioned on the front side of the residential space along with a livingroom(19.2%). More frequently, dining area tends to face the living room(30.2%) according to the result. Besides dress rooms begin to be placed in each of the bedroom, once planned in one bedroom only while 18.6% of the apartment houses are placing new storages in the entrance to solve lack of storage space due to balcony extension.The purpose of this study is to provide the basic information and to help producers develop more realistic, idealistic and better environment-friendly interior finishing material by identifying and reducing the awareness and preference about it between the producers and consumers. The following conclusions are based on the above results of analysis. There is a lack of awareness of the environment-friendly interior finishing material and it is urgent to develop the awareness. For the developing the awareness, the government and the authorities concerned have to educate the consumers in order that they choose objective information, have to build information network accessible to them and have to share the reliable information. And in order to get the confidence of consumers, it is necessary to make institutional devices. The scientific study which can be approved in many methods and many NGOs' participation are also needed. Especially in order to meet the consumers' demand, there should be proof of the influence of the interior finishing material on the body and diversity of the design and color of the material.The purpose of this study is to experimentally examine and analyse a wide variety of resident requirements and characteristics considered for remodeling apartments in Daegu area, as well as their trend. To achieve the purpose, this study was carried out by analysing individual remodeled spaces and characteristics of residents in private apartments of 30-pyeong and 40-pyeong areas in Daegu, Korea. The method for survey included an interview, questionnaires, field survey, and photographing. Both the primary (from July 7 to 13, 2006) and secondary surveys (from August 21 to September 20, 2006) were used for the questionnaires and field survey. 45 families were surveyed and 38 of them were analysed in this study. The data were processed using SPSS Statistical Package Program 12.0 for Windows.Multi Housing design has not considered the remodeling even at the beginning of the construction. This severely hindered systematic maintenance, providing fundamental causes of consuming society. In general, in about 20 years when the buildings become too old, they are brought down or removed with a trail of waste left behind. In addition, since the current remodeling or future remodeling type is a general remodeling that leaves only a frame, some question the role of the remodeling as a solution to the reconstruction from economically and environmentally efficient aspects. This study intends to find a solution for long-life span multi-family housing design, promoting sequential remodeling by stating the life cycle of components. Problems were identified by analyzing joints, design and construction of multi-family housing based on the previous researches. Conclusion from characterization of the design plan according to joint parts can be summarized as the following firstly, the problem of the wet was seen in joints between the structure and a finishing materials and ones between separate finishing materials. Secondly, the problem of overlap was frequently seen in joints between the structure and a door/window, ones between a door/window and a finishing materials, and ones between a finishing materials and an electrical/mechanical device.Lastly, the problem of filling occurs in the process of concealed joint of adjacent components and was seen in joints between the structure and an electrical or mechanical device. Therefore, the dry processing which replaces wet joint was seen in joints between the structure and a door, ones between the structure and a finishing materials, ones between a gypsum board and electrical device, and ones between a water pipe and a tile finishing. And a process of separating the area of jointed parts in order to eliminate the problem of overlap was seen in joints between a door and a finishing material and ones between a gypsum board on the ceiling and a light. Lastly, an analysis of a process of exposing concealed parts indicated that the problem of filling could be applied to joints between the structure and an electrical or mechanical device and ones between a finishing material and a mechanical device. It also contains basic data useful to implement long-life houses in the future by presenting a comprehensive design standard for themThe purpose of this study was to suggest the improvement plan for IAQ of the combined officetel and residence through analyzing demands, satisfaction, subjective symptoms and device of residents. For this study, the data was collected from 110 residents by questionnaire survey and an experienced planner by interview. The result showed that the IAQ improvement of the combined officetel and residence was urgent. The educational program about maintenance of IAQ for residents was essentially needed. To recommend eco-friendly materials in process of construction wasimportant so as to take precaution against ‘sick building syndrome'. It was also necessary to improve on the size and shape of ventilation window.After incoming the notion of eco-friendly building, many organizations developed green building assessment programs and in the late of 2001, those programs were unified to one program, 'Green Building Certification(GBC)'. Many problems, however, arose after unification of programs and now the study to solve those problems is impending. The purpose of this study is to make suggestions to solve problems of GBC through analyzing characteristics of several abroad and well developed programs. The key points of the analysis were 1) characteristics of assessment organizations, 2) structures of programs, and 3) characteristics of assessment methods and systems. The results of the study showed that GBC didn't have any positive connections with the academia, the developer and the consumer, and did have lack of assessment efficiency and accuracy.Though a variety of demands for an green dwelling, it is hard to diffuse a wooden house due to high construction cost. So this study aims to diffuse to propose a space modular for production and supply. Therefore the result of investigation to the space modular of each room through the survey of width and depth in the type of dwelling in korea is as follows. 1) Investigated the mixture of magnitude on the total width and depth, the survey is showed commonly 3.6m and 4.2m. 2) Once the depth is 3.6m, a living room and inner room, room's width is 3.9m, 4.5m. The purpose of this study was designed a multiplex house used a co-operative house's concept which based on the data which collected by man to man case research about operators of online shopping malls.This study evaluated 23 elderly residents living independently in 4 group homes for their behaviors of space occupancy and activities of daily living. The aim of the study was to analysis the habit of space occupancy of residents in group homes for elderly people. As the results, the habit of space occupancy of residents in group homes was analysed and categorized into four types: (1) bedroom occupancy, (2) common space occupancy, (3) 2-space occupancy and (4) several spaces occupancy. It was shown, then, that the common space occupancy in ‘ㅂ' group home, 2-space occupancy and several spaces occupancy in 'ㅇ' and 'ㄱ' group homes, and bedroom occupancy in ‘ㅅ' group home were highest, respectively, so that the type of their space occupancy varied in accordance with individual group homes. Moreover, there was a difference in the habit of their space occupancy according to the degree of achieving both ADL and IADL. This fact seems to indicate that the higher the degree of their independence in ADL and IADL, the more the number of their occupying space. Accordingly, the degree of their independence in achieving ADL and IADL should be taken into account in planning residential spaces for elderly people, including individual and commonly sharing spaces, traffic lines, layout and facilities.To investigate the actual conditions on the living environment of group homes for the elderly and their living environment, 4 group homes were surveyed. As the results, while the living environment of the group home was entirely satisfied, the safety for criminal prevention, accessability and convenient facilities were not satisfied in addition to relatively narrow living room. Space safety for elderly people was not sufficiently taken into consideration in physical environment.The purpose of the study is to analyze systematically the characteristics of the American Housing according to the trend of American Housing Market recently. The study analyzes the transition of the Housing design since 1950's and the trend of American Housing Market through the characteristics of the social change hereafter. Above all, the study finds out the space design characteristics of the American houses due to the trend of American housing design.Not only is home a place, but also it has psychological and social meaning. Then the meaning of home is different according to geographical location or group. Therefore, under this background, the purpose of this study was to analyze the meaning of home of the university students. The data was collected through the students ' essay about "the meaning of housing for me". The samples are 158 in total. The research method which was performed in order to recognize the meaning of home was a content analysis . As the results of study, the meaning of home are 10 in total. First order is a home as a refuge, second order is a home as a space with a family, and third order is a home as a base of activity.By considering research trend how flow of elderly welfare policy of Japan, which experienced an aging society already, has changed and developed and characteristic of living environment, this study has its purpose to offer basic data to be helpful for finding out direction of Korean future elderly care facility. Therefore This research examines several residence types to secure diversification of residence type and good quality of residence place, introduce the townhouse that developed fast in internal recently and make a planed option for activating in korea.The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between outdoor play environments and child's play behaviors. The data were collected by this study include field measurement survey, and non-participatory observation from 8 child care centers in Seoul. The field measurement survey were conducted from February 20 to March 20, 2005, whereas non-participatory behavior observation were conducted from June 15 to July 10, 2005. The major results showed the following. 1)Most of child care centers were too small, did not use the adequate surfacing to play various activities, and were made of play equipment setting. 2)Child's play behavior focused on functional play activity and construction play activity. 3)The relationship between outdoor play environments and child's play behaviors showed that small outside play environment with monotonous construction of play setting produced functional play behaviors on children. However, in some cases, despite the small and monotonous play area, diverse play behaviors were observed. These playgrounds at least differed from others in that they provided the place where multi purpose play was possible. This finding shows that multi purpose play areas can be an alternative in small playground environment.The aims of this study was to identify the needs of a generation-integrated housing complex by respondents with different generations and propose the plans for this type of low-rise housing complex. Respondents were needed a housing unit with 31-40 pyung, three rooms, and two baths. Also, they wanted to live a housing complex with size of 50-100 housing units, providing community services such as green zone and rivulet, community programs and spaces, and residents gathering public spaces. The proposed plans showed three types of standard housing unit plans and three modified housing unit plans to accommodate the changing life cycle of the family.The purpose of this study is to present basic data that can assist on projecting the plans of use of balcony space, by identifying the problems derived from balcony remodelling for the sole purpose of securing practical space, and to further research on the role of balcony space in an apartment. The results of this study revealed a high demand on balcony space, thus the key area of research would be on developing various methods of utilizing such balcony space differing among the different types of available residential space, rather than a standardized extension of balcony space.Multi-residential housing in Korea has many problems basically because maintenance, management, and remodelling have been done without considering building elapse and residents' needs. With the concern that the facilitation of process and systems is as important as technical development, the evaluation of process and systems is needed for promoting residential open building. As result, strong investigation of current situation can offer basic foundation to facilitate residential open building. The purpose of this study is to propose plans to facilitate residential open building in Korea through a comparative study between Korean and Japanese system.The purpose of this study is to investigate tendencies on land use by grasping the characteristics of changes of use at the borders of single-detached housing area for planning single-detached housing area in the future. It is divided the borders of detached housing areas into three types, educational facility, parks and green spaces, and apartment complex, and then analyzed the characteristics of each location after a field study. It is summarized as follows. First, warehouses and vacant sites were distributed in adjacent borders near parks and green areas. Second, there were stationery and flour-based meal stores in adjacent borders near educational facilities, suitable for students' interest and motion patterns. Third, there were realty dealers, food stores, and laundries which provide the dwellers with service in adjacent borders near multi-family housing.The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze empirical studies on community facilities of apartment in Korea, to find out research streaming and understand social backgrounds. Since the last year when well-being trend was highly interesting, consumers have showed their concern about not only just interior of house but also exterior environment of their houses. Using keyword through library database systems, the articles were systematically selected. 20 cases were used for data analysis. For this study, content analysis was conducted.The korean elderly population over the age from 60's is increasing. Especially, elderly over the 60's furniture which resides at the apartment is increasing. Consequently, We are predicted by elderly furniture which resides at the apartment increasing. A life leisure of elderly is occupying big importance. We come to be high and are interested also to treat in the elderly leisure problem. The leisure equipment for elderly is important residing area. The purpose of this study is to analyze the uses of the elderly houses in Korean and to provide for some basic useful data to designing of the elderly houses. 2 elderly houses located in the apartment complexes in Seoul were sampled, and interview with questionnaire was conducted for 14 elderly people. The questionnaire, consisted ; conditions of the elderly houses, users' satisfaction and users' characteristics.To design common facilities that support residents' leisure activities is one of the comtemporary issues in Korea. People became interested in the leisure facilities in near-home environments. The purpose of this study was to analyze the uses and needs of leisure facilities of residents living in apartment complexes The questionnaire survey was conducted in the selected apartment complexes, and 676 responses were used for data analysis. The statistical techniques used for data analysis included frequencies, percentage, mean, and$x^2$ -test. The major finding were as follows: 1) Subjects needed the diverse leisure facilities such as sports center and resident's self government facilities. And they needed divers facilities for sports. 2) In terms of location, they needed leisure facilities which was closer to their house. 3) It was found that the respondents preferred safe and various leisure facilities, and the leisure facilities were exclusively used for the residents only, and the use by non-residents should be charged at the expense. Also, respondents were willing to pay additional fee for the better quality of leisure facilities, and sports leisure facilities congregated in one building were highly desirable.The purpose of this study is to investigate the residents' neighborship and attitudes for finding influencing factors in an apartment complex. This study is based on a comparative method using a questionnaire, interview and observation. Two neighboring apartments were selected, they have different composition of the apartment complex and are located in Busan. The subjects were 305 wives living in apartments. The major findings are as follows: 1) Matters of common interest and a mutual cooperation were important factors for residents' neighborship. 2) Residents preferred a more opened type composition of the apartment complex for their neighborship. These results could contribute to future study for community development in the apartment complex.The purpose of this study is to evaluate and analyse the characteristics and images of interior environment design in the living rooms, bed rooms and kitchen of the apartment, using the e-model houses of the apartments that will be constructed by 10 construction companies and be occupied after 2006. The result showed that both of residents and management office staffs recognized the need for the participation of residents in management process.This study aimed to suggest the implications to improve the management system of permanent public rental housing. For this purpose, qualitative data were collected by using the in-depth interview with 13 staffs of community welfare center and management office in permanent public rental housing complexes and 2 times of advisory committee meetings. To analyze the data gathered in this study, the constant comparative method of data analysis was used. Based on the results, some implications including institutional support and social complementary cooperation were suggested in terms of short and long term period.In this study, it is considered how housing paradigm for the elderly has been changed from traditional societies to the current times in terms of welfare. Those changes could be necessary for establishing housing policies and implementing them concerning the characteristics of the elderly and their predictable problems related to welfare. It is intended that diverse housing issues for the elderly in relation to welfare are investigated. The welfare approach is appropriate for the consideration of elderly housing as one of the individual goals for the welfare. For the accomplishment of the purpose, the changes are considered in terms of social, physical, and policy aspects.
