The Korean high-speed rail network has been made a remarkable growth recording the world's 4th rank passenger transportation scale during last 5 years after opening the revenue service of Kyoung-bu high-speed line in 2004. However, in spite of it's outstanding growth, Korean Rail technology should meet a demand of intensive technology development in order to prepare a severe competition with an advance parties of worldwide high-speed rail technology. In this paper, the characteristics and new trend of world's rail industry was reviewed based on the most recent statistics and papers of worldwide rail network from UIC and WCR32008. In conclusion, new R&D strategy with choice an concentration for the Korean high-speed rail industry was suggested based on an analysis on the trend of evolution of the state of the art technologies in worldwide high-speed rail system.

High-speed railway is important transportation in the world because it has a lot of merits like as very comfortable, environmental benefits, energy savings, etc. The increase of demand for high-speed railway influence to develop of new hish-speed trains. Many countries introduced new high-speed train in the market and it meets to the market's needs. They adopt new technology and systems like that active suspension, synchronous permanent magnetic motor, distributed drive system, aero acoustics, etc. In Korea, the project for R&D of new high-speed train is launched in 2007. We need analysis for main properties of new high-speed train(HEMU-400x). This paper presents the comparisons, analyzed characteristics of main properties like as traction system and braking system. In this analysis, we can know our technical position in the world and what is important to focus on the development. It is very useful to develop a next generation high-speed train in Korea.

The High speed electrical multiple train having a distributed electrical motor system has just been developing to aim the experimental maximum speed at 400km/h since August, 2007. This project comes in stage of basic design and so, it needs to take some review and analysis the characteristics of suspensions on the view of basic design. The vehicle model for dynamic analysis is made from the concept design model that used for the preliminary design review with Vampire program and it is modeled with three linear secondary dampers and two shear springs separated from the bush elements in previous model. The optimization technique is applied to search the proper range of linear characteristics for the suspension elements to satisfy the stability performance at speed 130m/s (about 460km/h). The results shows there are some optimum points according to the variation of primary and secondary suspension characteristics and it would be useful to make a decision to select the proper suspension elements in the precision design that will be done by the manufacturing company.

There are almost no studies on verification of requirements for high speed rolling stocks by means of RAM goals and on setting RAM goals by means of verification on practical reliability, availability and maintainability for high speed rolling stocks though they are covered in specification of an order that RAM goals asked of rolling stocks are shown for gaining high quality of them and availability when they are in operation. This study is for estimating number of high speed train-sets that would be supplementarily placed an order through verification of RAM goals of a project for the introduction of KTX-II 100 cars. It verify that optimized requirements for high speed rolling stocks by relatively comparison with between requirements for train-sets through setting RAM goals and requirements for train-sets through analysis of prospects for management balance with high speed rolling stocks.

In the testing stage of HEMU-400X(next Korean high speed train) developing project, maximum speed(400km/h) tests will be conducted. On present and near future conditions of the overhead contact lines, 400km/h is over the design speed criteria. The predictions of current collection performance including the percentage loss of contact(arcs level) parameter through dynamic interaction simulation of HEMU-400X maximum speed test run are described in this paper. Various simulations are conducted at the condition of two different contact wire tensions to draw the proper contact wire increasing values in the 400km/h test line under the available contact wire tension supporting condition of that line.

In this research, an external noise distribution of a HST has been analyzed by using a ray tracing techniques. An aero-dynamic noise generated from a bogie has been considered as a major noise source. Then a distribution of the noise on the outside of the vehicle is calculated using a ray noise technique. The models simulated are two different acoustic fields: an open field and a tunnel. In order to evaluate the noise effects, an exterior structure has been modified by using a different length of skirts. Various application schemes of reducing an environmental noise level will be expected for a HST based on this research.

High-speed EMU under development vibrates more than a articulated high-speed train since power units are attached on each vehicle and railway vehicle. In this study, anisotropic equivalent stiffness of a aluminum extrusion plate were calculated to know and predict vibration characteristic of High-speed EMU under development. Eigen frequencies and modal shape of high speed train vehicle were calculated. And vibration generated was predicted at each position of vehicle when vehicle was operating.

From the view point of railway vehicle dynamics, the interaction between wheel and rail have an huge effect on the behavior of the vehicle. This phenomenon is an unique motion, only for railway vehicles. Furthermore, close investigation of the backgrounds of the interaction is the key to estimate the dynamic behavior of the vehicle, successfully. To evaluate the model including flexible bodies such as car body and catenary system of the next generation express train, it is necessary to develop proper dynamic solver including a wheel rail contact module. In this study, wheel-rail contact module is developed using the general purpose dynamic solver. First of all, the procedure for calculation of the wheel-rail contact force has been established. Generally, yaw angle of the wheelset is ignored. Sets of information are summarized as tables and splined for further uses. With this information, normal force and creep coefficient can be extracted and used for FASTSIM algorithm, which has been shown good reliability over years. Normal force and longitudinal, lateral force at the contact surface are also calculated. Those data are verified by commercial railway simulation program 'VAMPIRE'. This procedure and program can offer a basic process for estimation of the dynamic behavior and wear of the wheel-rail system, even while running on the curved rail. Finally, multi-dimensional inspection tool will be developed including the prediction of the derailment.

In this study, we suggest that several approaches to evaluate the collision acceleration value of a car in the article 35 and the guideline 16 of Korean rolling stock safety regulation. There are various methods to evaluate collision acceleration such as; a displacement comparison method by the double integration of filtered acceleration data, a velocity comparison method by the integration of filtered acceleration data, an analysis method of time-velocity curve, or a differential method of time-velocity curve. We compared these methods one another using 1D dynamic simulation model composed of nonlinear dampers, springs and bars, and masses. Also, we applied these methods to a hybrid model, which is made of 3D shell element model and 2D collision dynamics model, in order to evaluate whether 1D force-displacement curve modeling for energy absorbing structures have an effect on the collision acceleration levels or not.

High speed train system generates much EMI (electromagnetic interference) by arc between the pantograph and the trolley line during the running time. EMI from the tilted EMU train system which is similar to HEMU-400X system for 400 km/h speed and with the distributed engines was measured following EN50121-2, 'Railway applications. - Electromagnetic compatibility (Emission of the whole railway system to the outside world)'. Measured EMI values exceed the limiting values of EN50121-2 in high frequency band (
$30\;MHz{\sim}1,000\;MHz$ ), but exceeding frequencies were identified that they are used for mobile communications. Measured EMI values did not exceed the limiting values in other low frequency band between 9 kHz and 30 MHz. -
The cooling technology of power conversion semiconductors in the propulsion system for the HEMU(High Electrical Multi Unit) are applied in water cooling method and phase change method such as the immersed type and the heat pipe type. This research designs and manufactures the water cooling system that could cool about heat load Q=2kW and performance tests to apply it by an electric power conversion semiconductors(IGBT) cooling technology. Experimental condition made change of a flow rate, an air velocity and a heat load to confirm operation characteristics of water cooling device, and when is heat load 2kW, air velocity 20 m/s, and water flow rate 7kg/s, it is about
$80^{\circ}C$ to temperature of cooling plate. -
This paper proposes a real-time estimation of the boost inductance in a single-phase AC/DC parallel PWM converter for high-speed EMU. The estimation procedure of the boost inductance is only based on the variation of input current and the input AC voltage measurement. The estimated boost inductance is optimized by the least square method. This estimation technique can improve the performance of current controller and reduce the harmonics of the input current in the feed-forward controller. The validity of proposed technique is verified through the MATLAB SIMULINK simulation results.

To predict efficiency of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors(IPMSM) and to cope with the demagnetization risk of permanent magnets used in the IPMSM, accurate iron analysis of the IPMSM is very important at the motor design stage. In the analysis, we calculate the operation condition such as rotor speed and current angle. and then, we analyzed the iron loss of the machine for electric vehicle according to its driving condition. From the analysis results, it was shown that the harmonic iron losses of stator are larger than before at field-weakening region. In addition, it was revealed that rotor iron loss mainly induced by stator slot-ripples is independent of current angle and only varied according to the speed.

To making Proto-type design; Frist step is extracting design factor which can makes final image of Proto-type. And last, Apply it to the Original-form which was presented by last research. This research is for take one's own identity of korean High speed EMU, and makes originality of design for korean rail-road culture.

If an urgent situation, such as a stroke, faint, heart attack, happens in a lavatory, it is hard to recognize and perform an immediate emergency treatment unless the patient inside of the lavatory calls for help. If a system that can detect an emergency in a lavatory and report to the relevant personnel is developed, it would be an excellent installation case demonstrating how a train is nicely designed to take care passenger's safety. In this paper, we showed a design of lavatory emergency detection system (LEDS) that detects an urgent situation in a lavatory by using sensors and timers and reports to proper personnel. This system can be installed not only on a train but also in a building where visual monitoring is not possible.

Now, the goal of the third generation KTX project is to create a new species of high speed train in order to open a new era of high speed railway system in history by authentic Korean technology and innovative design. Now the third generation KTX, must go beyond the original stagnant paradigm and be positioned as an emotional resource which is creating a shift in the public's perspective of transportation and expanding the idea that transportation intersects the two distinct realms of culture and environment as well. In addition, the overall design should reflect the Korean culture and characteristics, simple yet resonant, both the interior space and the exterior fuselage should portray the dynamic heritage of Korea such as the powerful yet subdued energy of Jung Joong Dong. In short, through the symbolic in Korean, Dong(Dynamics), Mek(Pulse), Ryu(Flow), Gam(Sensibility), the third generation KTX design project aims to create an new identity of Korean high speed railway which can stand globally.

Most advanced countries are researching to apply light weight materials far rolling stock because weight reduction for railway body derives cost-saving, energy-saving, and high-speed. Likewise, current Korea rolling stock field makes arduous effects of weight-reduction, miniaturization, and high-efficiency to achieve a high-speed railway. Aluminum becomes suitable material for these projects because it is much lighter than steel or stainless. Manufacturing the railway car body by using the Aluminum is increasing because Aluminum is not bringing the corrosion by unique oxidation-passivate. Aluminum extrusion profile far railway body requires a high mechanical property, accurate shape dimension, and stable quality because the railway body is composed with many different kinds of extruded profiles. Therefore, it is necessary to research about Aluminum precision-extrusion technology to maintain exit temperature and die load. The goal of this project is applying the Aluminum extrusion profile to next-generation railway car body by developing the Aluminum extrusion profile according to precision-extrusion technology which may maintain isothermal exit temperature.

This paper researched the adiabatic characteristic, safety and sound insulation characteristic of rolling stock window pane type and transition process of korean train vehicle window glass, and also including investigating a hereafter course of development. The window pane have provided the romantic feeling and the external scenery of train travel to the passenger in period of korea 110 year railway history. From the adiabatic viewpoint, this paper reviewed heat conductivity(U-value) and solar factor according to window pane type, including the safety and sound transmission loss of window pane.

In high speed railway, event recorder system stores a train speed and the related data for train operation in real time. Using those information, we can analysis the train operation and the reason of train accident. Analysis software gets the stored data from Event Recorder and shows the status of various signals related with train operation. Using it, also we can analysis the train operation before and after the given time. In this paper we propose the analysis software to show and analysis the operation of high speed train. The method of transferring the stored data from Event Recorder into Analysis Software is proposed. We develop the efficient procedure to store the transferred data into analysis system. Also the effective method to show the store data and to analysis them is studied for finding the cause of train accident.

There are two types of controller between railway and train. those are the Continuous Message Controller and the Intermittent Message Controller using for KHSR. The conventional Intermittent Message Controller board used a variable resister for setting the phase, but the variable resister affected some environmental facts, such as temperature, humidity, and vibration, etc. And It is requirement of reduction message processing time for speed-up operation in Next-Generation High-Speed Rail. This study suggests how to solve the problem described above. Using FPGA is quite profitable. It's easy to use and maintain, flexible with the New algorithm to fix up the problem.

This paper aims for analyzing the vibration serviceability of train by simply expressing its vertical vibration when it passes a railway bridge. For this purpose, bridge-train transfer function was derived and bridge-train interaction analysis was performed by using the derived function. The bridge-train transfer function was developed with the assumption that train is a single mass-spring system, and bridge-train interaction analysis was performed on simple beams of KTX passenger car. The vertical acceleration signals of passenger cars obtained from bridge-train interaction analysis were compared with them of cars obtained from the bridge-train transfer function. As a result, it could be estimated to express the vertical vibration inside the passenger car required for vibration serviceability evaluation by using the vertical vibration of bridges obtained from moving load analysis. Therefore, it may be possible to evaluate the vibration serviceability of railway bridges considering bridge-train interaction effect.

The Periodic replacements criterion of rail is calculated on the basis of the research result of RTRI in Japan. It is suggested that the service life of the continuous welded rail(CWR) is estimated by the relationship between the rail surface irregularity according to the accumulated passing tonnage and bending fatigue of welded part in CWR. In order to establish the periodic replacements criterion of CWR, this study measured the rail surface irregularity according to the accumulated passing tonnage, the types of track system and welding. Therefore, it is analyzed that the gas pressure welding is the worst one of the others. In addition, it is analyzed that the rail surface irregularity growth rate in ballast track is about
$0.02{\sim}0.03mm$ /100MGT and its in concrete track is about$0.005{\sim}0.02mm$ /100MGT Finally, the result of this study is able to use the basis data to establishing the periodic replacements criterion of CWR considering rail grinding. -
It is of great importance to assure the running safety and ride comfort in designing the floating slab track for the mitigation of train-induced vibration. In this paper, for this, analyzed are the system requirements for the running safety and ride comfort, and then, the behavior of train and track at the transition zone between the floating slab track and the conventional concrete slab track according to several main design variables such as spring constant, damping coefficient, spacing and arrangement of isolators and slab length, using the dynamic analysis technique considering the train-track interaction. The results of numerical analysis demonstrate that the discontinuity of the support stiffness at the transition results in a drastic increase of the vertical vibration acceleration of the train body, wheel-rail interaction force, rail bending stress and uplift force. The increase becomes higher with the decrease of the spring constant of isolators and the increase of the isolator spacing, but the damping ratio does not significantly affect the behavior of train and track at the transition. Therefore, to assure the running safety and ride comfort, simultaneously increasing the effectiveness of vibration isolation, it is effective to minimize the relative vertical offset between the floating slab and the conventional track slab by adjusting the spring constant and spacing of isolators at the transition.

Measurement of dynamic characteristics are widely used to detect defects in mechanical or civil structures. The most common approach is to measure changes in frequency spectrum or mode shapes using accelerometers. An alternative to using mode shapes is using stain modes. Strain is more sensitive to local defects than displacement, and hence stain modes measurement is an efficient in structural health monitoring. This paper deals with dynamic monitoring of a beam structure using strain sensors. Resistive strain gages and FBG strain gages are used and their characteristics are compared. It has been known that resistive strain gages are week to EMI environment and suffers from noise at high frequency range. It has been shown that the FBG sensor is a good alternative that overcomes such difficulties.

The HEMU-400X project starts at 2007. It is important first of all that describing correctly system requirement during configuration of system, design, manufacturing, installation and test verification so that the complicated high-speed electric multiple unit is to run safety and reliable and to achieve target performance and function properly. The system requirement assist the system designer to understand the performance and function of system in basic design. For this process, system engineer have to manage the system requirement. This paper proposes the management contents of system requirement such as change management, requirement traceability, etc, for HEMU-400X.

Recently, electricity is essential for human lives. Modem people take cultural benefits due to the development of the electric power system and the spread of the high tech-electric appliances, the cell phones, and etc. However, the electromagnetic field problems become prominent figures owing to the fault of the communication devices around the power line and the biological effect, and etc. In this paper, we introduce the simple electromagnetic field calculation based on the transmission line matrix method, prior to the analysis about the influence of electromagnetic field. Simulation object is the inner part of the trailer car in the high speed train. Unlike the existing paper we submitted, we analyze not only the magnetic field but the electric field in the inner part of the trailer car which makes up the high speed train.

This paper is focused on a relationship between the noise and vibration of a wheelset and the railway irregularity of a high speed railway using a time-varying frequency transform for a preliminary research of the railway condition monitoring by an in-service high-speed railway vehicle. Generally, the monitoring has been performed by a special railway inspection vehicle or industrial engineers for railway maintenance. However, they have been limited at night due to the in-service high-speed railway vehicles, and too slow to monitor all of the section. To solve this problem, the monitoring should be performed by an in-service high-speed railway vehicle. For the research, the noise and vibration of a wheelset are utilized, because they are closely related to the railway condition. They are measured by using some microphones and accelerometers, and stored in an on-board data acquisition system. The signals are post-processed by a time-varying frequency analysis and compared with the result of a railway geometry and profile measurement system. From the comparison, it is able to observe the relationship between the noise and vibration of a wheelset and the irregularity of a high-speed railway. Also, some distinct frequency components are observed, which are not observed in the railway geometry and profile.

Recently, the design process for a railway bogie frame in Europe has been carried out according to the norm EN 13749. The activities in the norm EN shall demonstrate that the design of the bogie frame fulfills the acceptances of 4 steps of the program such as structural calculation, static tests, fatigue test and on-tracks tests. At the end of the acceptance program, the on-tracks tests have the aim to measure the real stress history generated in operation and to verify that they are reasonably next to those calculated and measured on the test rig. Therefore, in order to assure the safety of the railway vehicle, it is important to examined the durability of that under load histories measured from on-tracks tests. In this study, under variable amplitude loading based on the actual acceleration history, fatigue analysis of the welding bogie frame is investigated by using durability software. Moreover, the fatigue life of the frame under the loading in the norm EN fatigue test condition is evaluated and compared with the life under variable amplitude loading.

Since the "Low Carbon, Green Growth" as a social requirements is attracted public attention, the policies and investments of the railway which have been less estimated than road is re-considered. Since the starting the commercial service (2004. April), the KTX have been operated successfully while transport passengers over 100million for years. And also the project for development of KHST (Korea High Speed Train ; G7) had been accomplished with a good result, the first trainset of KTX-II which base on G7 project was manufactured and testing now. On the other hand, the world's technology of the high speed train is more faster, and changing to a distributed traction system. To catch up the world's leading technology, the HEMU(High-speed Electric Multiple Unit) project will secure new technology and aims to promote the technology of domestic high-speed train. The authors indicates the result of detail review such as a curve, slope of the track and electrical dead section of the catenary to test at 400kph and also the performance simulation of the developed rolling stock in this paper. As the result, the authors devise the test scenario to perform a maximum speed test (stability at max. speed, acceleration & deceleration etc) with the restricted conditions such as track length, track available time etc by considering above result.

Generally speaking, the uniqueness of Korea for the high-speed railway rolling-stock is mainly perceived through the travel over the high-speed electric railway by passengers, which consists of the organization of space in the coach and its interior design. For such purpose, it is necessary to build a series of independent cultures with high-speed railway i.e. to have the development of design technologies oriented to harmonizing human beings, their society and culture with the systematic integration of production technologies to support the culture and its substructure foundation which constitute the frame of superstructure in the society, by defining the relationships with travelers on the high-speed railway as well as enhancing the comfort and convenience of high-speed railway through drawing up the development of links with the systematic integration among lines of technologies on the basis of 'User Train Interface. This thesis aims at introducing the study carried out to build the evaluation standards of performance outputs for 'HEMU-400X rolling-stock Design' derived from the performance for the first year in the research 'Development of Technologies for the Next-Generation High-Speed Railway' as part of "Development Project for the Future Railway Technologies" from 2007.

The interior noise of the High Speed Train(HST) is analyzed by applying the statistical energy analysis (SEA) method. The interior of each vehicle is divided lengthwise into nine cavities. Since the rolling noise and aerodynamics noise are expected to be dominant noise sources, they are treated as the noise sources in the model. To further simplify the model, curtains and seats are excluded. The simulation runs involving one-car, three-car and five-car trains are conducted. The maximum predicted noise level is 98.4dB. The results also show that the predicted noise levels are within 0.23% of each other. The results imply that it is not necessary to estimate the interior noise of the train by constructing multiple-car train models. The noise estimate based on just one-car train can be optimal with respect to the computational effort and modeling time.

In a high speed train, aluminium extruded panel is widely used in floor, side wall and roof structures for high bending stiffness and weight reduction. However, with some inevitable reasons, aluminium extruded panel shows inferior sound insulation performance compared with the flat panel having same weight. Especially, occurrence of local resonance modes in the particular frequency band, is one of the main reason in the deterioration of the sound insulation performance. Local resonance modes are generated in the structure which consists of periodic unit structure, such as the aluminium extruded panel. The local resonance frequency is determined by the specification of the unit structure. In this study, we predict the local resonance frequency band on the aluminium extruded panel used for the high speed train, and investigate how the design modification in the unit structure influences the local resonance frequency band and panel bending stiffness. The purpose of the study is to provide the design information for the effective unit structure in order to improve the sound insulation performance of the aluminium extruded panel.

This paper discusses the numerical study on the dynamics of the high-speed EMU by developing the 34 degrees-of-freedom (DOF) lumped parameter model including the effect of the creepage. In order to reflect the creepage, the Kalker's wheel-rail contact theory is introduced in the proposed model. The dynamic analysis using
$Matlab^{(R)}$ software is conducted, and its results are compared with those from ADAMS/Rail to investigate the validity of the proposed 34-DOF lumped parameter model. It is demonstrated that the results from the numerical study are similar to those from ADAMS/Rail. In addition, the critical design parameters of high-speed EMU are examined, and the design guidelines for reducing vibration and enhancing ride quality are proposed. -
Dynamic analysis is necessary for the High-Speed Railway vehicle which aims to run on max 400km/h. Especially, dynamic simulation using CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) can help to reduce the time of development of the High-Speed Railway vehicles. Also, it helps to reduce prices and improve the quality such as safety, stability and ride. There are many dynamic software for a railway vehicle, such as Vampire and ADAMS-Rail. There are limitations for each software and difficulties to analyze overall dynamics for entire railway system. To overcome these limitations, in this study, a program which can simulate entire railway vehicles was developed. This program is easy to use because it was developed using C++, which is object-oriented programming language. In addition, the basic platform for the development of dynamic solver is prepared using the nodal, modal coordinate system with a wheel-rail contact module. Rigid, flexible and large deformable body systems can be modeled by a user according to the characteristic of a desired system. Its reliability is verified by comparison with a commercial analysis program.

When a train enters into the tunnel with high speed, a compression wave generated inside the tunnel has been studied as a one-dimensional phenomenon. However, one-dimensional approach can't analyze 3-dimensional flow effect in the vicinity of the train body. In this research, so as to overcome this weak point, a prediction method of the wavefront of a compression wave using steady state solution has been used for the parametric study considering 3-dimensional effects of the interactions between trains and tunnels. The effective hood shapes were deduced in both cases of the train's entry into the tunnel on the single track and on a side of the double track. As a result, in case of the train's entry on a side of the double track, the increase of compression wave value propagated to the tunnel inside have appeared compared with the train's entry on the single track. Also, a horizontally convex elliptic hood shape is more effective at the train's entry on a side of the double track for the purpose of a decrease of wavefront gradient of a compression wave.

This study aims to develope a numerical model of the huge obstacle defined in the Korean Rollingstock Safety Regulations. The shape and mechanical properties to be satisfied in the numerical model were based on the Regulations. Through a troublesome trial and error simulations, we developed the numerical model of the huge obstacle to satisfy physical properties of the specified guideline in the regulations. By applying the developed numerical obstacle, we carried out a crash simulation to evaluate vehicle crashworthiness.

In this study, the dynamic characteristic of a contact wire and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated from an electrical response point of view. To analysis power line disturbance by induced contact loss phenomenon for high speed operation, a hardware Simulator which considered contact loss between contact wire and the pantograph as well as contact wire deviation is developed. It is confirmed that a contact wire and pantograph model are necessary for studying the dynamic behavior of the pantograph system. One of the most important needs accompanied by increasing the speed of high-speed train is reduced that an arc phenomenon by loss of contact brings out EMI. In case of a high-speed train using electrical power, as comparison with diesel rolling stock, PLD(Power Line Disturbance) such as harmonic, transient voltage and current, EMI, dummy signal injection etc usually occurs. Throughout experiment, it is verified that an arc phenomenon is brought out for simulator operation and consequently conducted noise is flowed in electric circuit by power line disturbance.

The cooling technology of power conversion semiconductors in the propulsion system for the HEMU(High Electrical Multi Unit) are applied in water cooling method and phase change method such as the immersed type and the heat pipe type. Both of cooling systems need a condenser and a fan through forced wind to emit that is radiated heat from electric power conversion semiconductor(IGBT) stack effectively, now in the case of Japanese Fastec 360S, is using ram-air that is flowed in establishing cooling passage to propulsion system for cooling of condenser. In this research, it is that achieved the computing numerical analysis using ADINA of commertial program to examine flow characteristics and pressure distribution of ram-air for a condenser in cooling passage.

This paper proposes a magnetic analysis model and design method of transformer for the high-speed EMU. It has a many part of the consideration in design because the transformer in high-speed train has the multiple output. Also the output characteristic, weight, and size of transformer is an important factor. This research proposes a design method of transformer in high-speed EMU. And it is easy to design by using the analysis model in design the transformer through the establishment of the magnetic analysis model.

Recently, Interior Permanent Magnet Machine(IPM) is widely used for traction motor in the high speed train. Due to the high efficiency and high power density of the IPM, it has lots of heat sources such as iron loss and copper loss. These heat sources can cause the demagnetization of permanent magnet, losses in output power and even irreversible defect of the IPM. To prevent the power loss caused by heat sources, the accurate thermal analysis has to be carried out. For the thermal analysis of the IPM, the thermal network is designed for this traction motor. The thermal analysis has executed at rated speed operation. The result of thermal network analysis can be used for the IPM design process.

In this paper, we tried to find the engineering feasibility of the component functions of the seven selected application technologies which are going to be installed on the next generation high speed train as the IT and smart sensor application technologies. The component functions of the seven applications, including the "Emergency or reminder notification", were identified and analyzed. In order to justify the feasibility of applications development, effect analysis and sufficiency analysis were performed. In effect analysis, how each function has an effect on safety, convenience, and efficiency of the passengers and attendants was evaluated. In sufficiency analysis, the importance and implementability of each function as a component was evaluated. The feasibility analysis was focused on the technical aspects of the functions. The following work will be the settlement of the final applications that are going to be designed and implemented. This will be done by studying the strategic feasibility in relation to the service or business of the high speed train.

Aluminum extrude is increasing to vehicle body manufacture of a recent railroad vehicle. Conventional welding of this aluminum extrude has been used MIG welding or resistance spot welding mainly. But the advanced manufactures like Japan's tried to apply the friction stir welding and friction spot joining at railroad vehicle body manufacture process. Therefore in this paper we tried to study to apply friction stir welding to AL 6005-T6 extrude which has been manufactured the railroad vehicle mainly. In this study we investigated first the mechanisms to affect the welding strength in friction stir welding. After we made the 3 tools of different shape, we observed how the welding strength changed while changing the welding time and the rotation speed, the plunging depth.

The technologies of the main converter/inverter, which is indispensable for securing a safety and reliability of traction performance in rolling stock, have been compared and analyzed between HEMU-400X and High Speed Trains in Japan, France and Germany through this study. The result of this study indicates that home and abroad technologies aim at a small-sized and lightweight main converter/inverter as well as the prevention of noise in electric ventilator.

The fixed duration test has been widely used in the reliability demonstration test for rolling stocks. This article deals with how to design the test statistics, acceptance criteria and the fixed duration of the MTBF(Mean Time Between Failures) demonstration test considering the consumer risk. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the dependence of the consumer risk on the test duration and MTBF requirement.

The performance of screw compressor depends on lots of design parameters of rotor profile, such as length of seal line, wrap angle, blow hole, suction and discharge port size, number of rotor lobe, etc. The optimum rotor profile makes it possible to increase the compression efficiency with low energy consumption, and to minimize the loss of power. In this research, a new rotor profile design and performance analysis are done by computer simulation. It is expected that the volumetric efficiency is improved because the internal leakage is reduced due to the minimization of blow hole and clearance, and the stiffness of rotors is increased due to the reduction of length to diameter ratio. Also, the specific power consumption will be secured for use ranging from low to high operation speed.

Passengers in a vehicle feel uncomfortable due to squeal noise. Squeal noise, a kind of self-excited vibration, is generated by the friction force between the disc and the pad of the automobile. In this paper, modal analysis of wheel brake system was performed in order to prediction of squeal phenomenon. It was shown that the prediction of system instability is possible by FEM. Finite element model of that brake system was made. Some parts of a real brake was selected and modeled. The normal mode analysis method performs analyses of each brake system component. Experiment of modal analysis was performed for each brake components and experimental results were compared with analytical result from FEM. The complex eigenvalue analysis results compared with braking test. The analysis results show good correlation with braking test for the squeal frequency at an unstable mode.

The bogie hunting sensor detects accelerations of a bogie. It transmits those accelerations using frequency modulated signal to the TCMS(Train Control and Management System) electronics for functional processing. TCMS decide undesirable bogie hunting and high speed instability with frequency modulated signal. The bogie hunting sensor is essential component for safety driving of high speed train. The bogie hunting sensor's quality inspection before sensor is installed on bogie is very important. Therefore it is required equipment for exact inspection of train bogie hunting sensor. This study is about development of Bogie Hunting sensor's inspection equipment that we can improve Bogie Hunting sensor's quality. Accordingly, I suppose that this thesis will be utilized to improve the bogie hunting sensor's quality thru exact inspection.

There are many increasing demands for efficient high power density of auxiliary power unit(APU) for high speed traction application. Many techniques have been proposed to measure the voltage flicker on the traditional pulse width modulation(PWM) inverter. This paper proposes a novel functionality of the static inverter on the APU to mitigate the voltage flicker and regulate the output voltage. A new control algorithm for the inverter based on the Hilbert transform(HT) is presented. The HT is employed as an effective technique for tracking the voltage flicker levels in APU systems. Simulation results are provided to verify the tracking capabilities of the HT and to evaluate the performance of the proposed DG interface for multi-function operation.

There is an increasing demand for efficient high power/weight auxiliary power supplies for use on high speed traction application. Many new conversion techniques have been proposed to reduce the voltage and current stress of switching components, and the switching losses in the traditional pulse width modulation(PWM) converter. Especially, the phase shift full bridge zero voltage switching PWM techniques are thought most desirable for many applications because this topology permits all switching devices to operate under zero voltage switching(ZVS) by using circuit parasitic components such as leakage inductance of high frequency transformer and power device junction capacitance. The proposed topology is found to have higher efficiency than conventional soft-switching converter. Also it is easily applicable to phase shift full bridge converter by applying an energy recovery snubber consisted of fast recovery diodes and capacitors.

The railway signaling systems operated in Korea are ATS system, ATP system for the low speed line and ATC system for the high speed line. The integrated onboard signaling system for the next-generation high-speed rail is progressed as the need for reducing a driver's load and controlling a train properly with the automatic translation of the onboard signaling system according to a trackside signaling system. In this paper the configuration of the integrated onboard signaling system and the interfaces of the subsystems is presented.

Concrete tracks are superior to ballast tracks in the aspect of durability, maintenance and safety. However, deteriorated stiffness of railroad bed and settlement of soft ground induced by trapped or seepage water lead to problems in safety of train operation. In this research, characteristic stiffness of concrete tracks, which is determined from FRACTAL (Flexural-Rigidity Assessment of Concrete Tracks by Antisymmetric Lamb Waves) technique, was employed as an index of track displacement. The characteristic stiffness is defined using Poisson's ratio, moment of inertia and stiffness ratio of subgrade to slab. To verify validity and reliability of the proposed characteristic stiffness, experimental and theoretical researches were performed. Feasibility of the characteristic stiffness based on FRACTAL technique was proved at a real concrete track for Korean high-speed trains. Validity of the FRACTAL technique was also verified by comparing the results of impulse-response tests performed at the same measurement array and the results of SASW tests and DC resistivity survey performed at a shoulder nearby the track.

Traffic safety and vibration serviceability of a railway bridge set a limitation to the application of long-span cable supported bridges even though the design trend of the bridge becomes longer and lighter. In the case of high speed railway, it becomes more severe for the high speed of the train and resonance of the structure. Therefore, the cable supported bridge does not exist in Korea high speed railway until now. On the other hand, in recent, Italia, Japan and China do design and construct the long-span cable supported bridges for high speed railway recently with overcoming of traffic safety and passenger comforts. In the present study, prior to analysis of traffic safety and passenger comforts, a extradosed bridge for common railway is re-designed for high speed railway. The difference of member forces and displacements by design live load, the difference of impact coefficient and variable stresses of cables are investigated.

Railway has been pointed to the efficiency of transportation, rapid transit, and comfortable train ride. the construction of railway near the downtown area and station building are increasing for maximization of utilization and convenience. but the heavy of transportation and rapid transit lead to increase noise and vibration. the noise and vibration of railway may cause the civil appeal, decline in the serviceability and insufficiency of environmental standard. In this study, floating slab system which is one of the solution to avoid noise and vibration in railway has been introduced, and analyzed floating Slab Track into arrangement of reduction material of vibration. As a result of analysis, It was estimated the bearing installation though slab have not a negative factor and terminal arrangement of reduction material of vibration have advantage for static behavior.

본 연구의 선행기술조사결과 플로팅궤도 슬래브에는 dowel bar 등의 별도의 슬래브 연결부 보강이 없었다. 본 연구모델에 비해 선행기술조사 대상 슬래브의 연장이 매우 짧으며, 긴지간의 슬래브에 연결부에 대한 보강이 없다면 단부에서의 단차에 의해 슬래브의 파괴가 예상된다. 따라서 dowel bar 등의 추가적인 보강이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 dowel bar의 일반적인 특성과 국내외 dowel bar에 대한 선행기술에 대하여 조사함으로써, 추후 수행될 해석연구의 자료를 확보하고자 하여 그 적용가능성을 검토하고자 하였다.
