The ultra-fine tungsten carbide(WC) powders have been actively used in the cemented carbides industry, because they have excellent mechanical properties such as high hardness, strength, and toughness. In this study, ultra-fine WC-Co alloys powders have been fabricated by thermochemical and thermomechanical process such as spray conversion process or high energy ball milling. The non-coated end-mill which is made of ultra-fine tungsten carbide is investigated by measuring cutting force, tool wear, tool life, and surface roughness profile according to cutting length. The machining test was conducted with high hardened workpiece and their performances are investigated in high speed cutting conditions. Also, the relationship between the machining characteristics and the Co contents are investigated under various high speed cutting conditions.

In this paper, a rotating tool clamping device was developed based on a shape memory alloy(SMA) and its feasibility as a tool holder was experimentally explored. The SMA-based device was able to alter clamping to unclamping through temperature control within 1 second. The means and repeatability(
${\sigma}$ ) of the tool clamping force were 185.5N and 6N respectively and its drifts were less than 3% for an hour. Considering the temperature hysteresis of the SMA-based tool clamping device, it is necessary to heat the SMA ring to around$50^{\circ}C$ after tool change to obtain more clamping force. -
Recently the machine industry is rapidly advanced for improving productivity. Especially an effort decreased error factors of machine tool continuously is being studied. In this paper, we propose a method that decreased vibration in the high speed spindle. By appling 6-sigma technique(DMADOV), we can grasp the influence between the housing design and a rotation accuracy. For a correct conclusion, we measure an actual spindle and analysis by
$ARMD^{(R)}$ (rotation analysis program). inally we find out influenceable design factors and the improvement condition about 20.7%. -
Injection molding process factors such as molding temperature, injection pressure, flow rate and flow velocity, must be controlled properly in filling and packing phases in the injection molding process. In this study, effects of these factors on the injection molding were investigated through the flow analysis for birefringence and refractive index for pickup lens. This paper presents the birefringence and refractive index reduced with increasing the holding pressure and also the holding pressure time. And there are interaction with birefringence and fill time in the injection process. The optimal conditions through DOE are validated by using injection molding analysis.

The present study examined the mechanical properties of the friction welding of Ni-Cr-Mo to SM45C. Friction welding was conducted at welding conditions of 2,000 rpm, friction pressure of 100MPa, friction time of 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 seconds, upset pressure of 150MPa, and upset time of 3.0 seconds. When the friction time was 1.6 seconds, the maximum tensile strength of the friction weld happened to be 1,020MPa, which is 120% of the base material's tensile strength(850MPa). At the same condition, the maximum shear strength was 438MPa, which is equivalent to 103% of the base material's shear strength(425MPa). At the same condition, the maximum vickers hardness was Hv490 at Ni-Cr-Mo nearby weld interface, which is higher Hv40 than condition of the friction time 0.8 seconds, and the maximum vickers hardness was Hv305 from weld interface of SM45C, which is higher Hv12 than condition of the friction time 0.8 seconds. The results of microstructure analysis show that the structures of two base materials have fined and rearranged along a column due to heating and axial force during friction, which has affected in raising hardness and tensile strength.

The purpose of this research is stability estimation of plant structure through classification and recognition about welding flaw in SWP(Spiral Welding Pipe). And, In this research, we used nondestructive test based on ultrasonic test as inspection method, and made up 2-axes inspection robot in order to control of ultrasonic probe on the SWP surface, and programmed to image processing and probabilistic neural network(PNN) classifying code by MATLAB programming. Through this process, we proved efficiency on the system of SWP stability Estimation.

It is important to measure the rotational accuracy of lathe spindle as it affects to the qualities of all machines machined by the lathe using in industries. The bad rotational accuracy of lathe spindle are caused mainly by wearness of the spindle in using and quality of spindle when machining and using low level bearings. It occurs especially in case of lathes because the cutting force acting to work-piece act on one side to the spindle not to both sides symmetrically. Therefore in this study, constructing experimental apparatus for measuring of rotational accuracy by using eddy current type gap sensors AEC5706PS and sensors, s-06LN, data acquisition board DT9834(USB type) and software for data acquisition, DT Measure Foundry ver. 4.0.7 etc., error data acquired in the rotational accuracy test of lathe spindle are analysed in plots and statistical treatments.

Electropolishing, the anodic dissolution process without contact with tools, is a surface treatment method to make a surface planarization using an electrochemical reaction with low current density. Nitinol is a metal alloy composed of Ni and Ti around 50% respectively which has shape memory effect. Nitinol can be put various applications which require purity and high pricision surface of products. The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristic of electropolishing effect for nitinol workpieces. In order to analyze the characteristics of electropolishing effect, surface roughness and micro-burr size were measured in terms of machining conditions such as current density, machining time and electrode gap. The tendencies about improvement of surface roughness and deburring effect by electropolishing for nitinol workpieces were determined.

The hypoid gear has advantage for the high reduction ratio and compactness. But, geometry design and strength evaluation of the hypoid gear depend on the machine tool of specific production companies because the geometry design and strength evaluation of the hypoid gear are complex and difficult. This paper proposes the development of the design programs to satisfying the geometry and strength of a hypoid gear through optimization technique using the genetic algorithm. The genetic algorithm is designed to optimize a method for minimizing volume. The existing design of hypoid gear in the forklift truck axle is compared with the results of developed optimum design program.

In this study, the natural flaws in welding parts are classified using the signal pattern classification method. The storage digital oscilloscope including FFT function and enveloped waveform generator is used and the signal pattern recognition procedure is made up the digital signal processing, feature extraction, feature selection and classifier design. It is composed with and discussed using the distance classifier that is based on euclidean distance the empirical Bayesian classifier. Feature extraction is performed using the class-mean scatter criteria. The signal pattern classification method is applied to the signal pattern recognition of natural flaws.

There have been continuous efforts to automate welding processes. This automation process could be said to fall into two categories, weld seam tracking and weld quality evaluation. Recently, the attempts to achieve these two functions simultaneously are on the increase. For the study presented in this paper, a vision sensor is made, and using this, the 3 dimensional geometry of the bead is measured in real time. For the application in welding, which is the characteristic of nonlinear process, a fuzzy controller is designed. And with this, an adaptive control system is proposed which acquires the bead height and the coordinates of the point on the bead along the horizontal fillet joint, performs seam tracking with those data, and also at the same time, controls the bead geometry to a uniform shape. A communication system, which enables the communication with the industrial robot, is designed to control the bead geometry and to track the weld seam. Experiments are made with varied offset angles from the pre-taught weld path, and they showed the adaptive system works favorable results.

The modem industry age began when the conveyer system was introduced by Ford to produce model "T". The conveyer system is designed to optimize and maximize mass production of a specific item. Nowadays, however, accommodating to individual tastes has become an important factor in selection of products. Thus, rather than the mass production of one item, producing fewer but a wide variety of goods became important. To give flexibility and elasticity to the conveyer system, a new method of transportation where it is possible to choose a specific item is necessary. Therefore mall quantity and high-volume mass production was decrescent and small quantity batch production was expanded. In this paper, we developed multiple crate stacking and picking system to give flexibility to the conveyer system. First, we verified the conceptually designed system through manufacture. Second, we solved the problems that would happen on the actual field using pneumatic system. Finally, we optimized the system through FEM technique. This system works with stability and fast speed and can improve work efficiency which would minimize the losses resulting from too much dependence on manual labor.

The restraint force is required for the accurate measurement and analysis to protect weldment from residual stress. Also, this residual stress caused by cracks in weldments is often observed in the weldments of large size nozzles or radial tanks after welding. This paper is preformed to evaluate the welding restraint forces using load cell with STS304 thin plate which is used as the pressure vessel steel in the industry field. As a result, as the welding currents are higher and the welding speeds are more slowly, the magnitude of restraint force in process of the flat plate welding shows to be more large.

Applications of bonded dissimilar materials such as large scale integration (LSI) packages, ceramics/metal and resin/metal bonded joints, are very increasing in various industry fields. It is very important to analyze the thermal stress and stress singularity at interface edge in LSI. In order to investigate stress singularities on the bonded interface edges and delamination of die pad and resin in the IC package. In this paper, stress singularity factors(
${\Gamma}_i$ ) and stress intensity factors($K_i$ ) considering thermal stress in the IC package were analyzed by using the 2-dimensional elastic boundary element method(BEM). -
With the increase of track density, high rotational speed and the compatibility for various media in optical disk drives, the effective design to vibration reduction is very important for robust operation. Especially when a slim optical disk drive for a notebook PC is excited by a mass-unbalanced disk, internal vibration and its transmission to external case bring about severer problem than that of conventional one. In this paper a design process of a rubber mount in a slim optical disk drive for vibration reduction is presented. The characteristics of rubbery materials - hyper-elastic and visco-elastic - are measured with standard specimens. The static stiffness of a rubber mount was calculated by FEM and the dynamic stiffness is predicted with the static stiffness and the impedance test data of the standard specimen. The transmissibility tests are performed for the purpose of verification of the design process.

This paper presents a new technique to implement the real-time recognition for shapes and model number of parts based on an active vision approach. The main focus of this paper is to apply a technique of 3D object recognition for non-contacting inspection of the shape and the external form state of precision parts based on the pattern recognition. In the field of computer vision, there have been many kinds of object recognition approaches. And most of these approaches focus on a method of recognition using a given input image (passive vision). It is, however, hard to recognize an object from model objects that have similar aspects each other. Recently, it has been perceived that an active vision is one of hopeful approaches to realize a robust object recognition system. The performance is illustrated by experiment for several parts and models.

The pressure ripple in most hydraulic systems is the root cause of their noise and vibration. This paper reduced the pressure ripple using side branch hose for an axial piston pump applied to small excavator. First, in calculating open area, a new method using groove area of valve plate is proposed. Simulation model in AMESim environment is developed to verify proposed method, find effective length and diameter of branch hose. Finally, the comparisons with experiment results show that the proposed method is more effective than previous method in reducing the pressure ripple. -
Inherent dynamic interaction between flexible disk and workpiece creates partially non-flat surface profile. A flat zone was defined using minimum depth of engagement. Several key parameters were defined to explain the characteristics of the zone. Process conditions including disk rotation speed, initial depth of cut and feed speed were varied to produce product profile database. Correlation between key factors was examined to find the characteristic dependencies. Trends of key parameters were displayed and explained. Higher flat zone ratio was observed for lower depth of cut and higher disk rotation speed. Ratio of minimum depth of cut against target depth of cut increased for higher feed speed and disk rotation speed but was insensitive to the depth of cut variation. The process transition was visualized by continuously displaying instantaneous orientation of the deflected disk and the location of key parameters were clearly marked for comparison.

In this paper, optics polishing technology using adaptive tool and eccentric motion mechanism was suggested. Optics polishing can make high reflective and accurate surface. The optics polishing process based on the eccentric motion mechanism has been used to manufacture the ophthalmic lens mold. Also ophthalmic lens mold factory hold conventionally a lot of the curved polishing tools for the versatile mold curves of eye diopters and want to reduce tool numbers. Therefore, a polishing machine with adaptive airbag tool was developed and experimentally verified in view of surface roughness and form accuracy.

To improve productivity of a metal cutting process, it is required to monitor machining stability in real time. Since cutting environment is harsh against sensing conditions due to vibration, chip, and cutting fluid, etc., it is necessary to develop a robust and reliable sensing system for the practical application. In this work, a chatter monitoring system was developed and its effectiveness was proved. Spindle displacement caused by cutting was selected as a main monitoring parameter. A cylindrical capacitive displacement sensor was adopted. Chatter frequencies were identified through modal analysis. To quantify chatter vibrations, chatter correlation coefficient was introduced. The identification of the monitoring system showed a good agreement with the result of experiment.

An active micro-mixer, which was composed of an oscillating micro-stirrer in the microchannel to provide rapid, effective mixing at high flow, rates was analyzed. The effects of molecular diffusion and disturbance by the stirrer were considered with regard to two types of mixer models: the simple straight microchannel and microchannel with an oscillating stirrer. Two types of mixer models were studied by analyzing mixing behaviors such as their interaction after the stirrer. The mixing was calculated by Lattice Boltzmann methods using the D2Q9 model. In this study, the time-averaged mixing index formula was used to estimate the mixing performance of time-dependent flow. The mixing indices of the two models compared. From the results, it was found that the mixer with an oscillating stirrer was much more enhanced and stabilized. Therefore, an optimum design for a dynamic micro-mixer with an oscillating stirrer was performed using Taguchi method in order to obtain a robust solution. The design parameters were established as the frequency, the length and the angle of the stirrer and the optimal values were determined to be 2, 0.8D and${\pm}75^{\circ}$ , respectively. It was found that the mixing index of the optimal design increased 80.72% compared with that of the original design. -
The present study covers numerical analysis of a thermionic scanning electron microscope(SEM) column. The SEM column contains an electron optical system in which electrons are emitted and moved to form a focused beam, and this generates secondary electrons from the specimen surfaces, eventually making an image. The electron optical system mainly consists of a thermionic electron gun as the beam source, the lens system, the electron control unit, and the vacuum unit. For a systematic design of the electron optical system, the beam trajectories are investigated through numerical analyses by tracing the ray path of the electron beams, and the quality of resulting image is evaluated from the analysis results.

Recently, Pb-free solder ball technology, which is getting more significant in miniaturization of electronic equipment, and resolution of recent environmental problems, is necessary to be developed. A plastic-core solder ball is much promising in those considerations. Plastic-core solder balls have the tendency to replace the usual metal-core solder ball from low material cost and superior mechanical properties. The thermal effects, however, are important in manufacturing process, such as deposing micro-sized metal thin film on the spherical polymer surface. Furthermore plastic-core solder balls are easy to be broken due to CTE and elastic coefficient of material property from heat transfer. We propose technical computational investigations for the manufacturing design and the reliability of plastic-core solder ball from thermal stress analysis.

A field emission electron gun including 3 electrodes including one cathode and two anodes is very important for high resolution electron microscope. To have functions to control the initially-emitted electron beam, two anodes act as an electrostatic lens according to equipotential lines by adjusting the spot size, intensity, and working distance. To verify the action of the electron beam by the electrostatic lens by changing several parameters such as electrode shape, displacement and applied voltage to the electrodes, the two lenses were design and simulated and then their performances were analyzed with angular beam intensity(distribution), electrical optic axis variation and their stability.

A ceramic glass mold was developed for micro hot-embossing and replicated polymer parts are fabricated. The glass-ceramic micro mold could be fabricated with a laser process and a wet etching process and the fabrication time could be saved a lot. Various polymer micro structures can be obtained by hot-embossing. The process parameters such as ho-embossing temperatures or pressures were investigated and optimized. This process can be applied for fabrication of micro structures for flip-chips or micro fluidic channels for bio-engineering. The advantages and disadvantages of this process are discussed, too.

In this paper, an aberration free aspherical lens is designed and machined by new design method and the spherical aberration measuring system is developed. It confirmed the propriety of new design method by measuring optical characteristics of machined lens with the new measuring system. The system could measure a spherical aberration quantitatively by using CCD camera, laser, collimator and so on.

UBM (Under Bump Metallurgy) of flip chip assemblies consists of several layers such as the solder wetting, the diffusion barrier, and the adhesion layers. In addition, IMC layers are formed between the solder wetting layers (e.g. Cu, Ni) and the solder. The primary failure mechanism of the solder joints in flip chips is widely known as the fatigue failure caused by thermal fatigues or electromigration damages. Sometimes, the premature brittle failure occurs in the IMC layers. However, these phenomena have thus far been viewed from only experimental investigations. In this sense, this paper presents a method for solid modeling of IMC layers in flip chip assemblies, thus providing a pre-processing tool for finite element analysis to simulate the IMC failure mechanism. The proposed modeling method is CSG-based and can also be applied to the modeling of UBM structure in flip chip assemblies. This is done by performing Boolean operations according to the actual sequences of fabrication processes

In this paper we present a 3-DOF manipulator of which task is to unload the product from a micro factory. The micro factory developed by KITECH presses sheet metal to produce a micro valve that is used for micro pump. Our research is focused on the development of a small-sized unloading manipulator which works in the narrow workspace between the dies. We have implemented pick-and-place task with vacuum pressure and 3-DOF motion with stepping motors. We present the design procedures and analysis required in each module. -
Micro forming is a suited technology to manufacture very small metallic parts(several
$mm{\sim}{\mu}m$ ). Al5083 superplastic alloy with very small grains has a great advantage in achieving micro deformation under low stress due to its relatively low strength at a specific high temperature range. Micro forming of$Zr_{62}Cu_{17}Ni_{13}Al_8$ bulk Metallic glass(BMG) as a candidate material for this developing process are feasible at a relatively low stress in the supercooled liquid state without any crystallization during hot deformation. In this study, the micro formability of Al5083 superplastic alloy and bulk metallic glass,$Zr_{62}Cu_{17}Ni_{13}Al_8$ , was investigated with the specially designed micro vibration forming system using pyramid-shape, V-shape and U-shape micro die pattern. With these dies, micro vibration forming was conducted by varying the applied load, time. Micro formability was estimated by comparing the hight of formed shape using non-contact surface profiler system. The vibration load effect to metal flow in the micro die and improve the micro formability of Al5083 superplastic alloy and$Zr_{62}Cu_{17}Ni_{13}Al_8$ bulk Metallic glass(BMG). -
In this paper, fully embedded and miniaturized diplexer device has been developed and characterized for dual-band/mode CDMA handset applications. The size of the embedded diplexer is significantly reduced by embedding high Q circular spiral inductors and high DK MIM capacitors into a low cost organic package substrate. The fabricated diplexer has insertion losses and isolations of -0.5 and -23 dB at 824-894 MHz and -0.7 and -22 dB at 1850-1990 MHz, respectively. Its size is
$3.9mm{\times}3.9mm{\times}0.77mm$ . The fabricated diplexer is the smallest one which is fully embedded into a low cost organic package substrate. -
In this paper, foam-composite sandwich structures for EDM machine tool components such as column and column block designed by controlling stacking sequences and cross-sectional dimensions of the composite structures. The original column block is a box-shaped structure made of aluminum connecting a column and a Z-stage of the system. This research was focused on the design of efficient column block structure using a foam-composite sandwich structure which have good bending stiffness and damping characteristics to reduce the mass and increase damping ratio of the system. Vibration tests for getting damping ratio with respect to the stacking angle and thickness of the composites were carried out. Finite element analyses for static defection and vibration behaviour were also carried out to find out the appropriate stacking conditions; that is, stacking sequence and rib configuration. From the test and analysis results it was found that composite-foam sandwich structures for the microfactory system can be successful alternatives for high precision machining.

Although DLC coatings have good tribological properties, these are dependent on the deposition method, property of contact surface, and test condition. Si-DLC/DLC coatings with various Si content were deposited on Si substrates and tested using a reciprocating friction tester against steel balls. The results revealed that the tribological behavior of Si-DLC/DLC coatings was dependent on the Si content. The formation of transfer film and wear particles on the contact surface was greatly influenced by the Si content in DLC coatings. In particular, silicon oxide transfer film formed by tribochemical reaction contributed to reduce wear and friction.

This paper describes a static gait generation process and a mechanical design process of leg mechanisms for quadruped robots. Actually robot walking is realized with the joint motion of leg mechanisms. In order to calculate the time-angle trajectories for each joint of leg mechanisms, we generate end-tip trajectories with time for each leg in the global inertial coordinate system intuitively, followed by coordinate transformations of the trajectories into the local coordinates system fixed in each leg, finally the angle-time trajectories of each joint of leg mechanisms are obtained with inverse kinematics. The stability of the gait generated in this paper was verified by a multi-body dynamic analysis using the commercial software
$ADAMS^{(R)}$ . Additionally the mechanical specifications such as gear reduction ratio, electrical specifications of motor and electrical power consumption during walking have been confirmed by the multi-body dynamic analysis. Finally we constructed a small quadruped robot and confirmed the gait. -
It is absolutely that jewelry industry are cut and formed by using Nd-YAG laser for most accuracy shapes. Moreover, Jewelry manufacturing is needed to be more precise working, more saved time and more improved finance. So, This Study will show the ideas which make exactly formed shape and advanced qualities when cutting Ag-alloy. This ideas will give the fact that beginners are able to use easily to change and compound the form of jewelries by using Nd-YAG laser.

In this paper, we studied the possibility of non-contact bill counting method using optical fiber sensor instead of traditionally used friction counting method. To implement non-contact counting, we designed and made optical fiber sensor and related parts. optical fiber sensor is made of optical fiber of 1mm diameter, photo diode and laser diode. Based on the conclusion which derived from preliminary experiment, instrument part is designed to make unevenness on the surface of bill paper and to stay parallel with optical fiber section. By analyzing the signal of optical sensor, we made counting program. Experimental instrument is composed of sensor part, instrument part, signal handling part. We checked the possibility of non-contact counting method after implementing experiment by using optical fiber sensor and instrument part.
