Questionnaires including a time management scale were used for this study and the survey data were taken from 352 middle school students in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The statistical methods for the analysis were frequency, percentage, average, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. The variables affecting student time management were gender, their standard of living, parental educational level and parental occupation. Religion and residential area were indicated as variables affecting several subscales of time management but the academic year of student had no effect on student time management behavior. The relationship between time management and the academic achievement of middle school students was slightly positive. Developing programs for time management in the field of family resource management is also necessary.

  • Korean academic libraries are facing serious space shortage problems due to an inability to accommodate for the rapidly increasing number of printed materials. Despite the current situation, Korean academic libraries have largely focused on impractical applications of the new library paradigm, using technology or management programs to improve the quality of research and learning environments of the university. However, such improvements would be fruitless without first resolving the space shortage crisis. In order to make realistic improvements to the quality of academic libraries, this study used questionnaires to employ the opinions of librarians currently practicing at such Korean libraries. Survey questionnaires about types and causes of space shortage problems, library facility expansion plans, expected effects of expansion, frequency of and reasons for furniture relocation, and tight spaces needing improvement were distributed to selected 4-year college librarians through Google Drive. Analysis of survey responses indicated that library space shortage was largely responsible for the hindrance of research and learning environments. Furthermore, it reflected the urgency to secure book storage space.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between academic personality types and academic achievement in an effort to seek teaching and learning strategies geared toward improving the academic achievement of students. The subjects in this study were 400 dental hygiene students who were randomly selected from three-year colleges in Gyeonggi Province. Their academic personality types and academic achievement were investigated, and the findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for the academic personality types of the subjects, the inquiry-oriented type was most dominant, and the ideal-oriented one was least common. 2. In regard to differences in academic personality types according to academic year, the inquiry-oriented type was most common in every academic year, and there were statistically significant differences(p<.05). 3. As to differences in academic personality types according to academic achievement, the best academic achievement was found in the norm-oriented type, and there were statistically significant differences(p<.05). 4. Concerning differences among the subjects in academic satisfaction according to academic personality types, there were no statistically significant differences(p>.05). When the above-mentioned findings of the study were pieced together, the academic achievement of the subjects varied with their academic personality types, and it's consequently necessary to make an effort to apply different teaching methods and learning methods according to their preferences. As there are individual variances among students in achievement goal, preferred learning method and experience though they study in the same space with different learning methods, the development of student guidance programs tailored to academic personality types seems necessary.
