Conclusion: Simulation-based learning can facilitate adaptation to the scene of an emergency among paramedic students.
Purpose: This study examined the correlation between satisfaction with major, academic self-efficacy, and academic persistence with the general characteristics of students in a health-related field, to determine factors that affect academic persistence. Methods: The study was conducted on third- and fourth-grade health-field students at Daejion. The questionnaire consisted of a self-report, and a URL was sent by text message to students who agreed to participate after reading the purpose and necessity of the study. Results: Major satisfaction was 4.23 on average, academic self-efficacy was 4.15, and academic continuity was 4.25. Grade and school life satisfaction were the factors correlated with a significant difference in academic persistence. Significant positive correlations were seen between satisfaction with major (r=.637, p<.001) and academic self-efficacy (r=.563, p<.001); higher major satisfaction and academic self-efficacy led to higher academic persistence. Conclusion: A more systematic management approach needs to be conducted by developing active learning participation and applying customized counseling management and support programs by grade to improve the academic self-efficacy and academic persistence of students in health-related fields.
Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of flipped learning on paramedic students' self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy. Methods: A one-group pretest, posttest design was utilized for the 32 paramedic students who participated. The data were analyzed by employing paired t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient along with the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: The scores of self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy significantly increased after flipped learning classes (t = -3.90, p<.05; t = -5.92, p<.05, respectively). Conclusion: Flipped learning is an effective intervention for improving self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy in paramedic education. In the long run, the application of flipped learning will play a role in improving the paramedic students' educational environment and strengthening the overall abilities of students.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of CPR skills and the satisfaction of CPR Training targeted for college students. Also, this study made comparative study of nursing students and non-nursing students. The sample consisted of 248 students(132 nursing students, 116 non-nursing students). CPR Training was designed by two components which were a lecture and demonstration by one professor and individual practice by instructors. As tool of measurement estimation satisfaction of CPR Training questionnaires were developed based on educated contents. The accuracy of CPR skills were checked by SkillReporter CPR training manikin. Collected data were computerized and analyzed by SPSS-WIN program. The results were as follows : 1. The skills of CPR were cardiac compression 92.79 times/min, correct cardiac compression rate 90.85%, ventilation 9.93 times/min, correct ventilation rate 79.34%. 2. The mean of the accuracy of CPR skills were 2.94(SD .87). 3. When errors were analyzed, the highest item was stomach distension(51.2%) of ventilation skills and too little(70.6%) of cardiac compression skills. 4. The mean of the satisfaction of CPR training were 2.87(SD .17), the highest item of the satisfaction of CPR Training was practice. 5. We found significant statistical differences based on the accuracy and the error, non-nursing students were high in correct cardiac compression per minute(t=3.615, p=.000) and ventilation too much(t=4.292, p=.000), nursing students were high in correct ventilation rate(t=-3.885, p=.000) and cardiac compression too shallow) t=-2.842, p=.005).
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate knowledge and attitudes of students majoring in health-related fields toward automated external defibrillator (AED) and to identify the influencing factors of knowledge and attitudes in AED use among the students. Methods: Data were collected from 346 students and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, post hoc $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis, with SPSS Win 20.0 program. Results: Overall knowledge of AED in health-related major students, except paramedics and physical therapy was relatively low while attitudes were at moderate level. There were statistically significant differences in knowledge according to age, grade, major, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) awareness, exposure to AED and CPR education; and differences in attitude according to major, health status, health awareness, CPR awareness, exposure to AED, and CPR education. Significant factors explained 63% of knowledge on AED (F= 43.96, p<.001) and 37% of attitudes on AED (F= 15.84, p<.001). Conclusion: The study findings suggest that systemic education programs on AED should be implemented during undergraduate curriculum to improve survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to provide an appropriated direction for cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) education by analyzing the attitude, knowledge and self efficacy of CPR for Chinese students in Korea. Methods : The questionaries were obtained from 179 Chinese students who studied in K university at G city from Sep 24, 2012 to Oct 4, 2012. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 19.0 program. Results : About 40% of the subjects had experienced CPR training. In cardiac arrest situation, 82.6% of the respondents were willing to CPR on family members and 58.1% of the respondents were willing to CPR on strangers. They had a very low CPR knowledge level (mean 34.4 out of 100) and self efficacy (4.6 out of 10). The self-efficacy was related to CPR willingness but not to CPR knowledge. Conclusion : It is important to enhance CPR performance for layperson education in Chinese students.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge and attitudes towards hepatitis B among paramedic students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 395 paramedic students in Daejeon and Chungnam from May 10 to June 10, 2016. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects (9 items), knowledge of hepatitis B (20 items), and attitudes towards hepatitis B (7 items). Data were analyzed by t test, ANOVA, post hoc Duncan test, and Pearson's correlation analysis using SPSS v. 23.0. Results: The knowledge of hepatitis B was 10.52(${\pm}5.18$) out of 20 points and was significantly correlated with grade, vaccination, or antibody-positive irerspective of education. The positive attitude toward hepatitis B was 3.15(${\pm}.43$) and there was a significant correlation with family history irrespective of education. There was a statistically positive correlation between the knowledge and attitudes towards hepatitis B (r=.104, p=.039). Conclusion: Precise knowledge delivery and full understanding of hepatitis B should be incorporated into the education of paramedic students. Active infection control by emergency medical technicians should be maintained by hepatitis B prevention practices.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of flipped learning on self-directed learning and academic achievement in national competence standards (NCS) based physical assistant skills in the emergency medical technology(EMT) students.
