  • We define the mobile robot navigation problem as an optimization problem to minimize the cost function with the pose error between the goal position and the position of a mobile robot. Using Gauss-Newton method for the optimization, the optimal speeds of the left and right wheels can be found as the solution of the optimization problem. Especially, the rotational speed of wheels of a mobile robot can be directly related to the overall speed of a mobile robot using the Jacobian derived from the kinematic model. When the robot detects the obstacle using sensors, the sub-goal switching method is adopted for the efficient obstacle avoidance during the navigation. The performance was evaluated using the simulation and the simulation results show the validity of the proposed method.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of the achievement goal orientation of military cadets and grit on the military cadets' certification of physical fitness rank and on the improvement of the grade. To accomplish the research purpose, a survey was conducted to 350 cadets of the Korea Military Academy in December 2019, and 322 valid responses were analyzed by applying the path analyses. As a result, among the sub-factors of achievement goal orientation, the direct effect of task goal orientation on the two sub-factors of the grit was statistically significant. In addition, the effect of task goal orientation on grade physical certification was statistically significant, with the use of grit(maintaining interest) and grit(continuing effort) as meditating variables. In addition, task goal orientation had a significant effect on the improvement of physical strength grade via two sub-factors of Grit as meditating variables.

  • An intelligent distributed multi-agent system (IDMS) using reinforcement learning (RL) is a challenging and intricate problem in which single or multiple agent(s) aim to achieve their specific goals (sub-goal and final goal), where they move their states in a complex and cluttered environment. The environment provided by the IDMS provides a cumulative optimal reward for each action based on the policy of the learning process. Most actions involve interacting with a given IDMS environment; therefore, it can provide the following elements: a starting agent state, multiple obstacles, agent goals, and a cluttered index. The reward in the environment is also reflected by RL-based agents, in which agents can move randomly or intelligently to reach their respective goals, to improve the agent learning performance. We extend different cases of intelligent multi-agent systems from our previous works: (a) a proposed environment-clutter-based-index for agent sub-goal selection and analysis of its effect, and (b) a newly proposed RL reward scheme based on the environmental clutter-index to identify and analyze the prerequisites and conditions for improving the overall system.

  • It has been well known that customer' needs have much influence on the structure of supply chains. Uncertainty in customer demands forces companies' supply chains to be very flexible. When a company can not meet customers' changing needs, competitiveness in market places will be jeopardized. To survive in the competitive market places, structure of supply chains should be reconfigurable. In this paper, fractal concept is adopted to handle the reconfigurable issue. In a fractal-based SCM, structure of supply chains can be automatically reconfigured through the dynamic restructuring process with a fractal goal model. Goal in the system is divided into sub-goals, which are represented by a fractal goal model. The fractal goal model is a formal model which can be evaluated, changed, and scaled easily. Thus a well-designed fractal goal model is indispensable for a fractal-based SCM, and enhances the reconfigurability. Fractal structure for reconfigurable SCM is designed and presented. Fractal goal model is applied to SCM and an exemplary case is also briefly illustrated.

  • The main purpose of this study is to see the differences of the achievement goal orientation, academic burnout, and school happiness between gifted and general students, and also to explore the effects on school happiness of their achievement goal orientation and academic burnout. To resolve the above research questions, this study used questionnaire method to 256 1st grade middle school students and 84 gifted students enrolled in Daegu metropolitan city. All data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 19.0 program. The results of this study are as follows. First, mastery goal, performance-approach goal and performance-avoidance goal of the gifted students were higher than the general students'. Second, all sub-variables of academic burnout except hostility and total score of academic burnout of the gifted students were lower than the general students. On the other hand, all sub-variables of school happiness except relationship with friends and emotional stability and total score school happiness of the gifted students were higher than the general students. Third, this study revealed that the achievement goal and academic burnout explain considerable amount of students' school happiness. In other words, the disfavor and skeptical attitude of general students for the study hinder school happiness. Lastly, this study suggest that some program or consulting need to be administerd to change the affective attitude of students into positively. And also variety of counselling program or some instructions dealing with stress for gifted students since the exhaustion of gifted students affects considerably their school happiness.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of goal contents on failure tolerance in engineers (i.e., students and experts in engineering). Based on the goal contents theory, which is a sub-theory of self-determination theory, three intrinsic goals (i.e., self-growth, help, social concern) and two extrinsic goals (i.e., money, fame) were under investigation. A total of 398 participants (118 undergraduate students, 181 graduate students, 99 experts) answered survey questions. In the hierarchical multiple regressions, self-growth goal was entered as the first model, then, to the second model, the other four goals were added. The results showed that social concern goal significantly predicted failure tolerance among all engineer groups. Self-growth goal was closely associated with failure tolerance in undergraduate students and graduate students. Help goal was significant only among graduate students. These results suggest that pursuing intrinsic goals, especially, social concern goal is important to increase failure tolerance. Establishing infrastructure and educational climate for pursuing social concern goal can facilitate the development of personal expertise in engineers as well as the improvement of society.

  • Decomposition of tasks in the ordinary manufacturing systems is usually based on the predefined goal of the system. To achieve the high-level-goals (e.g., factory goal or company goal), several sub-goals should be achieved in advance. However, goals can change along with the current status of the system and the external environmental situations. Thus, a manufacturing system should support the goal-formations which can be bearable these changes for efficient and effective operations. Therefore, it IS necessary to develop a systematic methodology for the goal-formations in a manufacturing system. Especially, the formation and/or change of goals in real-time should be possible for distributed and dynamic systems including the fractal manufacturing system (FrMS). In this paper, a threefold methodology is proposed for the goal-formation process (GFP) in the FrMS; 1) a goalgenerating process (GGP) to make and propagate fuzzy goals, 2) a goal-harmonizing process (GHP) to eliminate or reduce conflicts and interferences of goals by using a mobile agent- based negotiation scheme, and 3) a goal-balancing process (GBP) to make a compromise between goals by using quantifiable indicators of the manufacturing system.

  • This study's research method was to investigate the effects of career development in the field of beauty on organizational commitment. A survey targeted 271 beauty workers living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. For data analysis, SPSS 21.0 was used for statistical processing. First, descriptive statistics were analyzed, followed by a factor analysis and reliability analysis, third, correlation analysis, and finally linear regression analysis. Detailed research results are as follows. First, the effect of career development of beauty workers and organizational commitment was investigated. The result is as follows. The independent variables, self-development, goal orientation, and career orientation, which are sub-variables of career development, were found to have a statistically significant positive effect. Second, the effect of career development of beauty workers on co-workers' organizational commitment was investigated. The result is as follows. By the independent variable, self-development, and career orientation, which are sub-variables of career development, are found to have a significant positive effect. However, goal orientation had no effect. Therefore, based on the results of this study, the implications are as follows. As beauty is a creative pursuit, it is often done in collaboration rather than alone, and therefore camaraderie plays an important part in the foundation of a commitment to a company. It is a field that goes after a goal after committing to a community mindset, instead of pursuing a goal alone.
