  • The performance of ac plasma display panels (PDP) is influenced strongly by the surface glow discharge characteristics on the MgO thin films. This paper deals with the surface glow discharge characteristics and some physical properties of MgO thin films prepared by reactive RF planar unbalanced magnetron sputtering in connection with ac PDP. The samples prepared with the de bias voltage of -10V showed lower discharge voltage, lower erosion rate by ion bombardment, higher optic transparency and higher crack resistance in annealing process than those samples prepared by conventional magnetron sputtering or E-beam evaporation.

  • The characteristic of interface layer and the effect of bias voltage on the microstructure of c-BN films were studied in the microwave plasma hot filament C.V.D process. c-BN films were deposited on a high speed steel(SKH-51) substrate by hot filament CVD technique assisted with a microwave plasma to develop a high performance of resistance coating tool. c-BN films were obtained at a gas pressure of 20 Torr, vias voltage of 300 V and substrate temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ in $B_2H_6-NH_3-H_2$ gas system. It was found that a thin layer of hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN) phase exists at the interface between c-BN layer and substrate.

  • We propose a new high speed and low power SOI inverter with dynamic threshold voltage that can operate with efficient body-bias control and free supply voltage. The performance of the proposed circuit is evaluated by both the BSIM3SOI circuit simulator and the ATLAS device simulator, and then compared with other reported SOI circuits. The proposed circuit is shown to have excellent characteristics. At the supply voltage of 1.5V, the proposed circuit operates 27% faster than the conventional SOI circuit with the same power dissipation.

  • In this paper the MMAE(Multiple Model Adaptive Estimation) algorithm using the MGEKF(Modified Gain Extended Kalman Filter) of which modes are set to be measurement biases is proposed to enhance the performance of target tracking with bearing only measurements. The state are composed of relative position, relative velocity and taregt acceleration. The mode probability is calculated from the bearing only measurements from the HMS(Hull-Mounted Sonar). The proposed algorithm is tested in a series of computer simulation runs.

The main factor that improves the discharge characteristics by bias voltage is considered to be due to the morphology changes or crystal structure of the MgO thin film by ion bombardement during deposition process.

  • Novel structured thin film transistors (TFTs) of amorphous silicon zinc tin oxide (a-SZTO) were designed and fabricated with a thin metal layer between the source and drain electrodes. A SZTO channel was annealed at $500^{\circ}C$. A Ti/Au electrode was used on the SZTO channel. Metals are deposited between the source and drain in this novel structured TFTs. The mobility of the was improved from $14.77cm^2/Vs$ to $35.59cm^2/Vs$ simply by adopting the novel structure without changing any other processing parameters, such as annealing condition, sputtering power or processing pressure. In addition, stability was improved under the positive bias thermal stress and negative bias thermal stress applied to the novel structured TFTs. Finally, this novel structured TFT was observed to be less affected by back-channel effect.

  • Auto-Pilot System uses heading angle information via the position sensor and the rudder device to control the ship's direction. Most of the control logics are composed of the state estimation and control algorithms assuming that the measurement device and the actuator have no fault except the measurement noise. But such asumptions could bring the danger in real situation. For example, if the heading angle measuring device is out of order the control action based on those false position information could bring serious safety problem. In this study, the control system including improved method for processing the position information is applied to the Auto-Pilot System. To show the difference between general state estimator and F.D.F., BJDFs for the sensor and the actuator failure detection are designed and the performance are tested. And it is shown that bias error in sensor could be detected by state-augmented estimator. So the residual confined in the 2-dimension in the presence of the sensor failure could be unidirectional in output space and bias sensor error is much easier to be detected.

  • In this study, an anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) cell was operated for ~1000 h at a voltage bias of 1.95 V. Impedance spectra were regularly measured every ~ 100 h, and changes in the ohmic and non-ohmic resistance were traced as a function of time. While there was relatively little change in the I-V curves and the total cell resistance during the long-term test, we observed various electrochemical phenomena in the cell: 1) initial activation with a decrease in both ohmic and non-ohmic resistance; 2) momentary and non-permanent bubble resistance (non-ohmic resistance) depending on the voltage bias, and 3) membrane degradation with a slight increase in the ohmic resistance. Thus, the regular test protocol used in this study provided clear insights into the performance degradation (or improvement) mechanism of AEMWE cells.

  • High dimensional time series is gaining considerable attention in recent years. The sparse vector heterogeneous autoregressive (VHAR) model proposed by Baek and Park (2020) uses adaptive lasso and debiasing procedure in estimation, and showed superb forecasting performance in realized volatilities. This paper extends the sparse VHAR model by considering non-convex penalties such as SCAD and MCP for possible bias reduction from their penalty design. Finite sample performances of three estimation methods are compared through Monte Carlo simulation. Our study shows first that taking into cross-sectional correlations reduces bias. Second, nonconvex penalties performs better when the sample size is small. On the other hand, the adaptive lasso with debiasing performs well as sample size increases. Also, empirical analysis based on 20 multinational realized volatilities is provided.

  • Use of appropriate technique for non-response occurring in sample survey improves the accuracy of the estimation. Many studies have been conducted for handling non-ignorable non-response and commonly the response probability is estimated using the propensity score method. Recently, post-stratification method to obtain the response probability proposed by Chung and Shin (2017) reduces the effect of bias and gives a good performance in terms of the MSE. In this study, we propose a new response probability estimation method by combining the propensity score adjustment method using the logistic regression model with post-stratification method used in Chung and Shin (2017). The superiority of the proposed method is confirmed through simulation.
