  • Using variational methods, Krasnoselskii's genus theory and symmetric mountain pass theorem, we introduce the existence and multiplicity of solutions of a parameteric local equation. At first, we consider the following equation $$\{-div[a(x,{\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}){\nabla}u]\,=\,{\mu}(b(x){\mid}u{\mid}^{s(x)-2}-{\mid}u{\mid}^{r(x)-2})u\;in\;{\Omega},\\u\,=0\,on\;{\partial}{\Omega},$$ where Ω⊆ ℝN is a bounded domain, µ is a positive real parameter, p, r and s are continuous real functions on ${\bar{\Omega}}$ and a(x, ξ) is of type |ξ|p(x)-2. Next, we study boundedness and simplicity of eigenfunction for the case a(x, |∇u|)∇u = g(x)|∇u|p(x)-2∇u, where g ∈ L(Ω) and g(x) ≥ 0 and the case $a(x,\,{\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}){{\nabla}u}\,=\,(1\,+\,{\nabla}u{\mid}^2)^{\frac{p(x)-2}{2}}{\nabla}u$ such that p(x) ≡ p.

  • Suppose that G is a group of permutations of a set ${\Omega}$. For a finite subset ${\gamma}$of${\Omega}$, the movement of ${\gamma}$ under the action of G is defined as move(${\gamma}$):=$max\limits_{g{\epsilon}G}|{\Gamma}^{g}{\backslash}{\Gamma}|$, and ${\gamma}$ will be said to have restricted movement if move(${\gamma}$)<|${\gamma}$|. Moreover if, for an infinite subset ${\gamma}$of${\Omega}$, the sets|{\Gamma}^{g}{\backslash}{\Gamma}| are finite and bounded as g runs over all elements of G, then we may define move(${\gamma}$)in the same way as for finite subsets. If move(${\gamma}$)${\leq}$m for all ${\gamma}$${\subseteq}$${\Omega}$, then G is said to have bounded movement and the movement of G move(G) is defined as the maximum of move(${\gamma}$) over all subsets ${\gamma}$ of ${\Omega}$. Having bounded movement is a very strong restriction on a group, but it is natural to ask just which permutation groups have bounded movement m. If move(G)=m then clearly we may assume that G has no fixed points is${\Omega}$, and with this assumption it was shown in [4, Theorem 1]that the number t of G=orbits is at most 2m-1, each G-orbit has length at most 3m, and moreover|${\Omega}$|${\leq}$3m+t-1${\leq}$5m-2. Moreover it has recently been shown by P. S. Kim, J. R. Cho and C. E. Praeger in [1] that essentially the only examples with as many as 2m-1 orbits are elementary abelian 2-groups, and by A. Gardiner, A. Mann and C. E. Praeger in [2,3]that essentially the only transitive examples in a set of maximal size, namely 3m, are groups of exponent 3. (The only exceptions to these general statements occur for small values of m and are known explicitly.) Motivated by these results, we would decide what role if any is played by primes other that 2 and 3 for describing the structure of groups of bounded movement.

  • B.Djafari Rouhani and W.A.Kirk [3] proved the following theorem: Let Xbe a reflexive Banach space and $(x_n)_{n{\geq}0}$ be a nonexpansive (resp., firmly nonexpansive )sequence in X. Then the set of weak ${\omega}$-limit points of the sequence $(\frac{x_n}{n})_{n{\geq}1}$(resp., $(x_{n+1}-x_n)_{n{\geq}0$) always lies on a convex subset of a sphere centered at the origin of radius $d={\lim}_{n{\rightarrow}{\infty}}\frac{{\parallel}x_n{\parallel}}{n}$. In this paper we show that the above theorem for nonexpansive(resp., firmly nonexpansive) sequences holds in a general Banach space(resp., a strictly convex dual $X^*$).

  • For $Q = [0,S] \times [0,T]$ let C(Q) denote Yeh-Wiener space, i.e., the space of all real-valued continuous functions x(s,t) on Q such that x(0,t) = x(s,0) = 0 for every (s,t) in Q. Yeh [10] defined a Gaussian measure $m_y$ on C(Q) (later modified in [13]) such that as a stochastic process ${x(s,t), (s,t) \epsilon Q}$ has mean $E[x(s,t)] = \smallint_{C(Q)} x(s,t)m_y(dx) = 0$ and covariance $E[x(s,t)x(u,\upsilon)] = min{s,u} min{t,\upsilon}$. Let $C_\omega \equiv C[0,T]$ denote the standard Wiener space on [0,T] with Wiener measure $m_\omega$. Yeh [12] introduced the concept of the conditional Wiener integral of F given X, E(F$\mid$X), and for case X(x) = x(T) obtained some very useful results including a Kac-Feynman integral equation.

  • We investigate the existence of multiple nontrivial solutions (${\xi}$, ${\eta}$) for perturbations $g_1$, $g_2$ of the harmonic system with Dirichlet boundary condition $${\Delta}^2{\xi}+c{\Delta}{\xi}=g_1(2{\xi}+3{\eta})\;in\;{\Omega}\\{\Delta}^2{\eta}+c{\Delta}{\eta}=g_2(2{\xi}+3{\eta})\;in\;{\Omega}$$ where we assume that ${\lambda}_1$ < $c$ < ${\lambda}_2$, $g^{\prime}_1({\infty})$, $g^{\prime}_2({\infty})$ are finite. We prove that the system has at least three solutions under some condition on $g$.

  • Let X, Y be real normed vector spaces. We exhibit all the solutions $f:X{\rightarrow}Y$ of the functional equation f(rx + sy) + rsf(x - y) = rf(x) + sf(y) for all $x,y{\in}X$, where r, s are nonzero real numbers satisfying r + s = 1. In particular, if Y is a Banach space, we investigate the Hyers-Ulam stability problem of the equation. We also investigate the Hyers-Ulam stability problem on a restricted domain of the following form ${\Omega}{\cap}\{(x,y){\in}X^2:{\parallel}x{\parallel}+{\parallel}y{\parallel}{\geq}d\}$, where ${\Omega}$ is a rotation of $H{\times}H{\subset}X^2$ and $H^c$ is of the first category. As a consequence, we obtain a measure zero Hyers-Ulam stability of the above equation when $f:\mathbb{R}{\rightarrow}Y$.

  • We expose a pattern for establishing Friedman-Weiermann style independence results according to which there are thresholds of provability of some parameterized variants of well-partial-ordering. For this purpose, we investigate an ordinal notation system for ${\vartheta}{\Omega}^{\omega}$, the small Veblen ordinal, which is the proof-theoretic ordinal of the theory $({\prod}{\frac{1}{2}}-BI)_0$. We also show that it sometimes suffices to prove the independence w.r.t. PA in order to obtain the same kind of independence results w.r.t. a stronger theory such as $({\prod}{\frac{1}{2}}-BI)_0$.

  • In this paper, we study the solvability of the nonlinear Dirichlet problem with sum of the operators of independent non standard growths $$-div\({\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}^{p_1(x)-2}{\nabla}u\)-\sum\limits^n_{i=1}D_i\({\mid}u{\mid}^{p_0(x)-2}D_iu\)+c(x,u)=h(x),\;{\in}{\Omega}$$ in a bounded domain ${\Omega}{\subset}{\mathbb{R}}^n$. Here, one of the operators in the sum is monotone and the other is weakly compact. We obtain sufficient conditions and show the existence of weak solutions of the considered problem by using monotonicity and compactness methods together.

  • We have a concern with the existence of solutions (${\xi},{\eta}$) for perturbations of the parabolic system with Dirichlet boundary condition $$(0.1)\;\begin{array}{lcr}{\xi}_t=-L{\xi}+{\mu}g(3{\xi}+{\eta})-s{\phi}_1-h_1(x,t)\;in\;{\Omega}{\times}(0,2{\pi}),\\{\eta}_t=-L{\eta}+{\nu}g(3{\xi}+{\eta})-s{\phi}_1-h_2(x,t)\;in\;{\Omega}{\times}(0,2{\pi})\end{array}.$$ We prove the uniqueness theorem when the nonlinearity does not cross eigenvalues. We also investigate multiple solutions (${\xi}(x,t),\;{\eta}(x,t)$) for perturbations of the parabolic system with Dirichlet boundary condition when the nonlinearity f' is bounded and $f^{\prime}(-{\infty})<{\lambda}_1,{\lambda}_n<(3{\mu}+{\nu})f^{\prime}(+{\infty})<{\lambda}_{n+1}$.

  • Let p : X → D be a proper surjective holomorphic submersion where X is a Kähler manifold and D is the unit disc in ℂ. Let Ω be a d-closed semi-positive real (1, 1)-form on X. If each Xs := p-1(s) for s ∈ D satisfies $-c_1(X_s)+{\Omega}{\mid}_{X_s}$ is Kähler, then the Kähler-Ricci flow twisted by ${\Omega}{\mid}_{X_s}$ has a long time solution by Cao's theorem. This family of twisted Kähler-Ricci flows induces a relative Kähler form ω(t) on the total space X. In this paper, we prove that the positivity of ω(t) is preserved along the twisted Kähler-Ricci flow.
