A new teaching-learning method is needed to improve creative problem-solving ability of the gifted students at mathematics. In response to this demand, I applied mentor-project studying to the mathematically gifted class students of Chungnam Science High School. The purpose of this monograph is to analyze in what situations they demonstrated mathematical creativity and whether the interactions among the gifted in the process of studying were of great help toward improving creativity. The effectiveness of mentor-project studying was especially verified by the analysis of creative problem-solving test results.
The purpose of this study was to compare the evaluation of students and teachers on the degree of students' improvement in terms of creativity after participating in enrichment programs for the gifted. Two topics in each of the Language Art and Mathematics were implemented to gifted students in grade 2 and 3 in one of the elementary schools in Kyung-Ki province and one private gifted education center for 12 times during the summer. The results showed that the young gifted students could monitor their performances very well and the evaluation of their creativity were consistently more positive than that of their teachers who taught them. They were significantly more positive regarding their creativity in mathematics than in Language Art. The results imply that young gifted children can evaluate their creativity reliably and consistently. Therefore, the teachers should try to understand and consider their own evaluation about their creativity in planning educational programs for the gifted. In the following studies, it is necessary to have pro- and post-test data on creativity collected by diverse methods and to include older students as subjects to see whether the results of this study are generalizable to older students.

Storycrafting is a creative educational technique in Finland. Since 2011, storytelling approach of mathematics textbooks in South Korea can be regarded as opportunities for interesting learning of mathematics as well as its improper application to mathematics lessons. We need to revise and improve the storytelling method. The purpose of this study is to make a storycrafting program that encourages students to make mathematical stories for themselves and to analyze the effect of the storycrafting program on mathematical creativity and communication. To do so, we developed a storycrafting program of mathematics for sixth graders, which is composed of 33 lessons. And we applied them to one sixth class as experimental group. Through pre-test and post-test, their mathematical creativity and communication were tested. Based on the result of t-test, we can verify the statistical meaningful effect of the storycrafting program. This study contains some conclusions and suggestions.
This study aims to design an exemplification task to facilitate the students' creative thinking, and to investigate mathematical creativity which emerges from exemplification. In particular, we aim to identify the ways to design exemplification tasks which encourage creative thinking, and characterize mathematical creativity fostered by exemplification. The findings showed that the students' creative thinking related to fluency, flexibility, elaboration, and originality emerged through exemplification.
This study aimed to examine how prospective mathematics teachers (PMTs) perceive collaborative problem-posing (CPP) as a method to cultivate students' creativity and character in mathematics education. This is to propose the introduction of CPP at the stage of preparatory math teacher education as one of the ways to reinforce the creativity and character education capacity of PMT), and to attempt to be an opportunity to actively utilize CPP in math teaching-learning in the school field for the education of students' creativity and character. To achieve this objective, I designed PMTs taking the 'Educational Theories for Teaching Mathematics' course, required in the second year of university, to experience CPP tasks. Data were collected through questionnaires or interviews over three years on how PMTs recognized the CPP tasks as a tool to cultivate students' creativity and character in secondary schools. The results of the study are as follows. First, PMTs recognized regardless of their CPP experience that CPP might have a positive impact on improving students' ability to devise various ideas and that it positively influences students' attitudes toward building interpersonal relationships, including teamwork, respect, and consideration. Second, the experience of PMTs participating in the CPP made them more positively aware that CPP is effective in improving students' ability to elaborate on ideas. Third, the PMTs' experience of participating in CPP led to a more positive perception of the impact of CPP on the students' abilities and attitudes, namely, the students' ability to elaborate on ideas and their inner attitudes toward individuals, including honesty, fairness, and responsibility, and the attitude of students regarding logically presenting their opinions and making rational decisions. Finally, if there are downsides to the offline environment, an online environment may be more beneficial.
In this paper, we analyzed the case of supporting the mathematical modeling activities through the group creativity in everyday class of 9th grade. The details are as follows. First, through the theoretical review, the meaning of group creativity according to sociocultural perspective and the sociocultural characteristics of mathematical modeling were confirmed. Second, we experimented in a classroom consisting of 5 groups of 4 students, and conducted a case study focusing on a well developed group of group creativity. The results are as follows. First, group creativity with various types of interaction and creativity synergy was observed at each stage of mathematical modeling. According to the stag e of mathematical modeling and the type of interaction, different creative synergy was developed. Second, the developed group creativity supported each step of mathematical modeling. According to the stage of mathematical modeling and the type of interaction, group creativity supported mathematical modeling activities in different directions.
The purpose of this study is to survey and analyze conception on creativity carried out from elementary school teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do area. As results, first, most of teachers replied divergent thinking, creative problem solving, and new creation as general creativity and mathematical creativity. Secondly, they showed that thinking process would be related to transfer and cognition in terms of mathematical creativity factors. Lastly, there are significant differences among groups according to gender, teaching career, and age, even though most teachers expressed sympathy for need of creativity education in mathematics education.
The article aims to present findings of a study which has examined the ability of elementary school mathematics teachers and of teacher-trainees in other disciplines to solve irregular challenging problems of sequences in general rather than numerical sequences only. The findings show that mathematics teachers succeed to cope with unusual assignments when the requirements of the problems presented to them are analogous to irregular problems. However, when the problems require a change in the thinking procedure in the direction of creative thinking, there is a considerable decrease in performance. Another finding shows that, although teacher-trainees succeed less in solving the presented problems, they give incorrect solutions which do indicate creative thinking. An inevitable conclusion based on the research findings is that teacher training institutions should enhance and reinforce multi-directional. branching out and creative thinking competences.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the mathematical creativity and computational thinking of mathematically gifted elementary students through a convergence class using programming and to identify what it means to provide the convergence class using Python for the mathematical creativity and computational thinking of mathematically gifted elementary students. To this end, the content of the nine sessions of the Python-applied convergence programs were developed, exploratory and heuristic case study was conducted to observe and analyze the mathematical creativity and computational thinking of mathematically gifted elementary students. The subject of this study was a single group of sixteen students from the mathematics and science gifted class, and the content of the nine sessions of the Python convergence class was recorded on their tablets. Additional data was collected through audio recording, observation. In fact, in order to solve a given problem creatively, students not only naturally organized and formalized existing mathematical concepts, mathematical symbols, and programming instructions, but also showed divergent thinking to solve problems flexibly from various perspectives. In addition, students experienced abstraction, iterative thinking, and critical thinking through activities to remove unnecessary elements, extract key elements, analyze mathematical concepts, and decompose problems into small components, and math gifted students showed a sense of achievement and challenge.
The purpose of this study is to examine the mathematical creativity problem-solving ability of middle school students gifted in mathematics. For this research, we examined and analyzed the responses to two multiple solution problems of the gifted students with classifying the four categories; fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration which are the factors of the creativity, and comparing with responses of usual students.
