Background: Hybrid learning is an educational approach that combines the teaching methods of online and lecture-style classes to compensate for each method's strengths and weaknesses. Compared to lecture-style classes, flipped learning improves overall class satisfaction and self-directed learning but is associated with lower learning motivation. It is necessary to determine whether hybrid flipped learning can solve the learning motivation problem of flipped learning by incorporating flipped learning into hybrid learning. The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of hybrid flipped learning and flipped learning on students' learning ability. Design: Cross-sectional study Methods: For students in the Department of Physical Therapy, classes were conducted using both flipped learning and hybrid flipped learning. In both learning methods, students took online classes first and participated in them every week. Flipped learning classes was conducted offline at school every week, while hybrid flipped learning alternated between live classes on YouTube and offline classes at school every other week. Results: Hybrid flipped learning resulted in significantly lower learning satisfaction and course evaluation than flipped learning, with no significant difference in grades. Conclusion: Hybrid flipped learning was able to cope with the situation well with the non-face-to-face teaching method caused by COVID-19, but it was difficult to improve learning ability because there were restrictions on activities that could interact with students. Flipped learning is a smooth offline activity that enables two-way activities between professors and students to improve learning ability, but the effect of improving test scores is still unclear.
In this study, the application of flipped learning methodology to thermodynamics in mechanical engineering was examined, and how university students view flipped learning and the effects of flipped learning were analyzed. To analyze the effects of flipped learning, pre-class survey, assessment on learning in pre-class, team activities during class, and post-class survey were conducted. The analysis was also conducted on 33 students who took the thermodynamics course in mechanical engineering, and the PARTNER flipped learning model was applied to the class. The results of this study are as follows; In the preliminary survey, the students expected that the flip-learning class with team activities and teaching between team members would be helpful in improving their learning. In addition, students recognized that cooperative learning through a team was helpful for learning. The case reflecting the result of pre-learning evaluation to the subject grades showed higher pre-learning evaluation results than the case not reflecting the result of the pre-learning evaluation to the subject grades, and it was found that the pre-learning evaluation was acting as a factor to promote learning in pre-class. In post-class survey, the satisfaction with the flipped learning class was high, indicating that the effectiveness of the flipped learning class applied to the thermodynamics class was excellent.
Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of flipped learning education on academic motivation and class satisfaction in physical therapy students. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Participants included 72 physical therapy students (experimental group=36, control group=36). In order to compare the effects of flipped learning education, flipped learning and lecture-style learning were provided in a class titled Acticities of Daily Living and Practice. An independent t-test was used to compare academic motivation and class satisfaction between two groups. Results: The flipped learning group showed a significantly higher level of academic motivation and class satisfaction compared to the traditional learning group (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results showed that flipped learning education is an effective learning strategy for improving the academic motivation and class satisfaction of physical therapy students.

Purpose: This study was conducted to design and implement a fundamental nursing practice based on flipped learning and to examine the effects. Methods: Participants were 57 students who were taking the fundamental nursing practice course at D university in N city. The study included processes of instructional design, action/effects and reflection. Data were analyzed using paired t-test with the SPSS/WIN 23.0. Results: In the instructional design stage, the class consisted of 3 parts: outside class (pre-learning), inside class (assessment, collaborative practice, peer review, reflection), after-class (self-directed practice, feedback). In the action/effects stage, the flipped learning was applied for 15 weeks according to the instructional design and then the effects of flipped learning were evaluated. Students showed a significant improvement in self-directed learning ability (t=-3.56, p=.001) and critical thinking disposition after the class (t=-3.72, p<.001). Finally, in the reflection stage, the researchers examined whether the four pillars of flipped learning occurred. Conclusion: Findings indicate that flipped learning applied in fundamental nursing practice is effective in improving self-directed learning ability and critical thinking disposition. The action research method was a useful way to foster professor's educational competency as well as to verify effects of a new nursing education method.
Recently, an advanced form of blended learning, which incorporates a teaching method that focuses on flipped learning is actively used in colleges. Flipped learning is for learners to pre-learn content through videos uploaded by instructors before class, and then participate in learner-centered learning activities such as discussions and team activities in the classroom. The purpose of this paper is to review where flipped learning is being used in medical schools, and to draw implications for effective and efficient use in medical schools. For this, the definition of flipped learning, how it evolved, educational usefulness of this method of learning, and application cases in medical schools were reviewed. Through the reviews of cases of flipped learning and its positive effects, it is suggested that medical schools consider more use of flipped learning in the classroom instructions, with sensitivity to the individual medical departments' needs, environment and professors' preferences.
This study aims to examine the effects of self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) on academic performance and the perceived usefulness for each elements of flipped learning. Based on their SDLR scores, 69 students were assigned to a high SDLR group and a low SDLR group. Academic performance was measured by the completion rate of a pre-class online learning and the final exam score, and perceived usefulness for each element of flipped learning was measured by a survey designed by the researcher. For academic performance, the high SDLR group showed a significantly higher completion rate than the low SDLR group, but no significant difference was observed in their final exam scores. Students in the high SDLR group perceived in-class student-centered activities as more useful than those in the low SDLR group. Additional qualitative analyses indicated that students needed more support from instructors and well-prepared peers. Finally, this study suggested that more examination on the various learning characteristics that may influence the effectiveness of flipped learning should be done.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of science lesson with the application of Flipped Learning on science academic achievement and scientific attitude of students. The experimental group was composed of 50 students and the comparative group was composed of 50, both in $6^{th}$ grade. The two groups were statistically equivalent in their science academic achievement and scientific attitude when pre-tests were conducted. The experimental group received science instruction applied with Flipped Learning and the comparative group took typical science lesson according to a teacher's guide. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the science lesson with the application of Flipped Learning was more significantly effective in improving students' science academic achievement than traditional science lesson. Second, the science lesson combined with Flipped Learning enhanced scientific attitudes of students with meaningful difference more than typical science lesson. Third, a survey research was conducted to the experimental group about their cognition on the lessons with the application of Flipped Learning. Many students had positive thoughts on this lesson and they thought the lesson was very interesting and understandable.
Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of flipped learning on paramedic students' self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy. Methods: A one-group pretest, posttest design was utilized for the 32 paramedic students who participated. The data were analyzed by employing paired t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient along with the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: The scores of self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy significantly increased after flipped learning classes (t = -3.90, p<.05; t = -5.92, p<.05, respectively). Conclusion: Flipped learning is an effective intervention for improving self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy in paramedic education. In the long run, the application of flipped learning will play a role in improving the paramedic students' educational environment and strengthening the overall abilities of students.
Flipped learning research has been applied in various educational fields since 2015 and the educational effects have been discussed in previous literature. In the beauty field, flipped learning research is insufficient; in particular, it is difficult to find research on flipped learning specifically concerning nail beauty education. The purpose of this study is to develop a model for applying flipped learning to nail beauty education which should involve practical training based on theory. Such an approach is considered effective. Data were collected and analyzed focusing on previous studies with flipped learning applied as a research method. The subject of the research is "Nail Color Design 1", a common nail major elective subject at J college. The "Nail Color Design 1" course is a practice-oriented course in the form of theory and practical classes. Consequently, the flipped learning education model for nail beauty was designed by reflecting learners' needs through the ADDIE instructional design model. It was applied based on the education structure of the Pre-class, In-class, and Post-class of the PARTNER instructional learning model. This study deviates from the traditional practical education model, and has educational significance as a practical model in which flipped learning is applied to nail beauty subjects and self-reflection is derived through project practice.
