Maternal Knowledge of Childcare and Its Effects on Mother-Teacher Communication (어머니의 보육지식과 어머니-교사 의사소통과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between maternal knowledge of childcare and mother-teacher communication. The participants consisted of 240 mothers whose children were enrolled at seven childcare centers in Seoul. Respondents were asked to complete a series of questionnaires reporting the important aspects of their childcare, the frequency of mother-teacher communication, and individual characteristics. Information about childcare's structural and procedural characteristics were obtained through interviews with the directors of those centers. The results indicated that mothers only answered 45.5% of questions correctly, and reported a lack of knowledge about childcare services in their respective centers. In particular, mothers didn't have information about caregivers (e.g, education, year of job experience, license, etc). Actual maternal knowledge was significantly correlated with the length of time which mothers were associated with their childcare and the frequency of mother-teacher communication. In addition, there were significant differences in the maternal knowledge regarding childcare services according to mothers' educational level. The results of this study imply that effective parent education programs are needed for mothers who want to enroll their children in childcare centers.

The Mediating Effect of Emotional Leadership of Daycare Center Directors on the Relation between Childcare Teachers' Emotional Intelligence and Teacher-Infant Interaction (보육교사의 정서지능이 교사-영유아 상호작용에 미치는 영향에서 원장 감성리더십의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the relationships among childcare teachers' emotional intelligence, daycare center directors' emotional leadership, and teacher-infant interactions. Also, this study examines whether a daycare center director's emotional leadership would mediate the correlation between a childcare teacher's emotional intelligence and teacher-infant interactions. A questionnaire was given to 293 childcare teachers. Using SPSS version 21.0, the data were analyzed for Pearson's correlation, hierarchical regression analysis, the Sobel-test, and the meditation effect proposed by Baron and Kenny. The findings are as follows. First, there was a positive correlation between a childcare teacher's emotional intelligence, the director's emotional leadership, and teacher-infant interactions. Second, the influence on teacher-infant interactions from directors' emotional leadership was relatively greater than childcare teachers' emotional intelligence. Finally, the emotional leadership of daycare center directors partially mediated the relationship between childcare teachers' emotional intelligence and teacher-infant interactions. This study provides significant empirical data for improving childcare.

Moderating Effect of Childcare Teachers' Role Conflict on the Relationship Between Professionalism Perception and Teacher Efficacy: Focused on Teachers Having Children

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the moderating effect of childcare teachers' role conflict on the relationship between their professionalism perception and teaching. The subjects were 365 childcare teachers who had children. They were asked to complete the survey on professionalism perception, role conflict in women, and teacher efficacy along with their background information. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 24.0 software. Descriptive, Pearson's correlation analyses, and a hierarchical regression analysis were conducted. As results, first, the childcare teachers with high professionalism perception showed high teacher efficacy, and the childcare teachers with high role conflict showed low teacher efficacy. Second, there was the moderating effect of role conflict on the relationship between professionalism perception and teacher efficacy.

  • Objective: In this study, a department accreditation system was introduced as a specific way to improve the professionalism of childcare teachers, and evaluation indicators for department accreditation and the implementation system were derived to find a practical direction. Methods: According to the purpose of this study, related laws and websites were reviewed. In addition, in order to investigate opinions on the composition and implementation system of qualification indicators, a meeting was conducted with professors of the department of childcare teacher education and other qualification experts. Results: In order to introduce a department accreditation system for childcare teacher education, it is necessary to specify the relevant laws, and that the operation of an organization affiliated with a public institution is appropriate for the practical implementation of the system. In addition, an evaluation index plan composed of three indicators of educational conditions, curriculum, and performance areas was derived. Conclusion/Implications: In this study, a practical preparation plan, such as evaluation indicators and an implementation system, was presented for the introduction of a department accreditation childcare teacher education system. It is expected that this study will contribute to the successful establishment of the accreditation system of childcare teacher education.

The Effect of Childcare Teacher's Playfulness on Burnout Through Ego-resiliency (보육교사의 놀이성이 자아탄력성을 매개로 직무소진에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: This study explored the effect of childcare teacher's playfulness on burnout through ego-resiliency. Methods: The participants of this study were 265 childcare teachers working at childcare centers. Data was collected through questionnaire on teacher's palyfulness, ego-resiliency and burnout were analyzed with descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation analysis using AMOS 10.0 and SPSS 21.0. The path included in the study model was verified by Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) and for the analysis of the mediating effect, Bootstrapping was used. Results: First, childcare teachers' playfulness had a negative influence on burnout. Second, childcare teachers' ego-resiliency had a negative influence on burnout. Third, childcare teachers' playfulness had a positive influence on ego-resiliency. Fourth, childcare teachers' playfulness had an indirect effect on burnout through ego-resiliency. The effect of childcare teachers' playfulness on their burnout was completely mediated by ego-resiliency. Conclusion/Implications: When developing a program to intervene in the burnout of childcare teachers, there needs to be more concern about ego-resiliency than playfulness.

Influencing Factors of Knowledge Related to Disease, Job Stress and Self-Esteem on Teacher Efficacy for Childcare Teacher (보육교사의 질병관련 지식, 직무 스트레스, 자아존중감이 교사효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is to explore degree of childcare teacher's teacher efficacy and the factors influencing of knowledge related to disease, self-esteem and job stress on teacher efficacy of those surveyed. A descriptive study was conducted with a survey of 257 childcare teacher in G city. The data were analyzed with t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and Hierarchial multiple regression using SPSS WIN/21.0 program. The mean score of the was teacher efficacy $78.70{\pm}8.28$. The teacher efficacy was had a positive correlation with self-esteem (r=.493 p<.001) and a negative correlation with job stress(r=-.247, p<.001). But the teacher efficacy was had a not correlation with knowledge related to disease. (r=.046, p=.257) The result of the hierarchial regression indicated that self-esteem, job stress and position explained 30.0% of variance in teacher efficacy. The result suggest that it is necessary to interventional strategies to promote teacher efficacy for childcare teacher in childcare centers to improve teacher efficacy.

Influencing Factors of Self-esteem and job stress on Teacher Efficacy for Childcare Teacher (보육교사의 자아존중감, 직무스트레스가 교사효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore degree of childcare teacher's teacher efficacy and the factors influencing of self-esteem and job stress on teacher efficacy of those surveyed. A total of 280 childcare teacher in G do were surveyed. All of this data is analyzed by using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, multiple regression analysis with SPSS WIN/18.0. Teacher Efficacy according to general characteristics of those surveyed revealed significant difference in age, work experience, position, class age, and child parenting experience. Regression analysis showed 11.7% of variance in childcare teacher's teacher efficacy can by experience of dating with self-esteem and job stress. The fallow-up survey about various factors influencing childcare teacher's teacher efficacy is needed and teacher efficacy increasing mediation way are required.

The Effects of Alexithymia, Burnout-, and Adult Attachment on Child Disciplinary Style of Childcare Teachers (보육교사의 감정표현불능증, 소진, 성인애착이 유아훈육방식에 미치는 영향)

  • Thise study is designed to demonstrate the influence of socio-demographic variables(age, education, career history and marital Status), alexithymia, burnout, and adult attachment on child disciplinary styles; childcare teachers in charge of young children were studied. The purpose of the study is to provide information about the desirable disciplinary styles of a childcare teacher in order to strengthen the quality of childcare education. The data collected in this study showed the following results: First, the age, education, career history and marital status of a teacher produced good results statistically irrelevant to the their child disciplinary style. Second, a high level of negative correlation was found among alexithymia, burnout, adult attachment and the child disciplinary style of a childcare teacher. In other words, if a teacher shows a high level of alexithymia, burnout, and adult attachment, it is likely that the teacher's child disciplinary style is coercive and neglect, and the teacher tends to give an illogical explanation. Third, in contrast to the other variables, burnout and adult attachment have a greater effect on child disciplinary style than alexithymia.

The Mediating Effect of Stress-coping Strategies of Childcare Teachers' Creative Personality on Teacher Efficacy (어린이집 교사의 창의적 인성이 교사효능감에 미치는 영향에서 스트레스 대처전략의 매개효과)

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of stress-coping strategies of childcare teachers' creative personality on teacher efficacy. Methods: Study subjects were 204 childcare teachers working at nursery schools located in S city of Gyeonggi province, and this study collected materials from childcare teachers through a self-report survey. For materials collected, this study conducted frequency analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis using spss 21.0, and verified the mediating effect through the Sobel Test. Results of this study are as follows. Results: First, there was a positive correlation among creative personality, teacher efficacy and stress-coping strategies. Second, results show that stress-coping strategies mediate the effect of childcare teachers' creative personality on teacher efficacy. Lastly, problem-focused coping strategies turned out to be full mediation, whereas coping strategies seeking social support was partial mediation. Conclusion: Based on the results, this study suggested the necessity to prepare a practical plan for enabling childcare teachers to use stress-coping strategies in a successful way.

  • The study aimed to define the paths through which director's servant leadership, childcare center teacher's organizational committment and organizational cynicism affected teacher's organizational citizenship behavior and determined their effects. The subjects for this study were 545 teachers of the childcare centers located in Daegu and Kyoungbuk district. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 8.0. The results showed 1) The director's servant leadership, teacher's organizational committment and organizational cynicism influenced directly on organizational citizenship behavior. 2) The director's servant leadership influenced directly on teacher's organizational committment and organizational cynicism. 3) The director's servant leadership influenced indirectly on organizational citizenship behavior by teacher's organizational committment and organizational cynicism.
