  • CMOS LC VCO with fast response adaptive frequency calibration (AFC) technique for IEEE 802.11a/b/g WLANs is designed in 1.8V $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The possible operation is verified for 5.8GHz band, 5.2GHz band, and 2.4GHz band using the switchable L-C resonators. To linearize its frequency-voltage gain (Kvco), optimized multiple MOS varactor biasing tecknique is used. In order to operate in each band frequency range with reduced VCO gain, 4-bit digitally controlled switched- capacitor bank is used and a wide-range digital logic quadricorrelator (WDLQ) is implemented for fast frequency detector.

  • The paper proposes a design of high-speed dynamic CMOS PLA (Programmable Logic Array) which performs stable circuit operation. The race problem which nay occur in a NOR-NOR implementation of PLA is free in the proposed dynamic CMOS PLA by delaying time between the clocks to the AND- and to the OR-planes. The delay element has the same structure as the product line of the longest delay in the AND p`ane. Therefore it is unnecessary to design the delay element or to calculate correct delay time. The correct delay generated by the delay element makes the dynamic CMOS PLA to perform correct and stable circuit operation. Theproposed dynamic CMOS PLA has few variation of switching delay with the increasing number of inputs or outputs in PLA. It is verified by SPICE circuit simulation that the proposed dynamic CMOS PLA has the better performance over existing dynamic CMOS PLA's.

  • With the recent development of portable system such as mobile communication and multimedia. Full adders are important components in applications such as digital signal processors and microprocessors. Thus It is important to improve the power dissipation and operating speed for designing a full adder. We propose a new adder with modified version of conventional Ratioed logic and Pass Transistor logic. The proposed adder has the advantages over the conventional CMOS, TGA, 14T logic. The delay time is improved by 13% comparing to the average value and PDP(Power Delay Product) is improved by 9% comparing to the average value. Layouts have been carried out using a 0.18um CMOS design rule for evaluation purposes. The physical design has been evaluated using HSPICE.

  • This paper presents a 1.8 GHz CMOS frequency synthesizer with high-speed on-chip pseudo 2-stage ring VCO. We introduce and analysis the conditions in which the ring VCO can oscillate. For high speed operation, we propose the pseudo 2-stage ring VCO that eliminates dummy loads. It can operate up to 1.87 GHz with 0.6 m CMOS process, which shows 21.3% improvement aginst the conventional 4-stage ring VCO in the aspect of the speed. When the frequency synthsizer with the psedo 2-stage ring VCO is locked at 1.85GHz, the jitter measured to 24 psec. The proposed VCO and the frequency synthesizer are directly applicable to high speed clocky synhtesizers.

  • In this paper, we invented a new structure of fast ATC(Automatic Threshold Control) circuit. Using the structure we made a new burst-mode limiting amplifier with fast ATC function using commercial $0.8{\mu}m$ BiCMOS technology. It's ATC function worked so fast that even the first bit of burst-data could be detected, which confirmed that the new structure was useful for fast ATC. However, in the beginning of a burst, distortions in duty-cycle occurred and increased up to 59% of duty-cycle as amplitude of input signal increased. But we confirmed that after 10 cycles passed, duty-cycles was staying below 52% of duty-cycle for any magnitude of input signal.

  • This paper described an 8bit, 100Msample/s CMOS D/A converter using a glitch-time minimization technique for the high-speed sampling rate of 100MHz level. The proposed DAC was implemented in $0.35{\mu}m$ Hynix CMOS technology and adopts a current mode architecture to optimize sampling rate, resolution, chip area. The DAC linear characteristics was similar to the proposed specification and the prototype error between DNL and INL is less than $\pm$0.09LSB respectively. Also, the manufactured DAC chip was analyzed the cause of error operation and proposed the field considerations for chip test.

  • This paper describes a 12b, 50 Msample/s CMOS AID converter using an acquisition-time minimization technique for the high-speed sampling rate of 50 MHz level. The proposed ADC is implemented in a $0.35\mu\textrm{m}$ double-poly five-metal n-well CMOS technology and adopts a typical multi-step pipelined architecture to optimize sampling rate, resolution, and chip area. The speed limitation of conventional pipelined ADCs comes from the finite bandwidth and resulting speed of residue amplifiers. The proposed acquisition-time minimization technique reduces the acquisition time of residue amplifiers and makes the waveform of amplifier outputs smooth by controlling the operating current of residue amplifiers. The simulated power consumption of the proposed ADC is 197 mW at 3 V with a 50 MHz sampling rate. The chip size including pads is $3.2mm\times3.6mm$.

  • In this paper, a 3.3V 8-bit 500MSPS based on an interpolation architecture CMOS A/D converter is designed. In order to overcome the problems of high speed operation, a novel pre-amplifier, a circuit for the Reference Fluctuation, and an Averaging Resistor are proposed. The proposed Interpolation A/D Converter consists of Track & Hold, four resistive ladders with 256 taps, 128 comparators, and digital blocks. The proposed A/D Converter is based on 0.35um 2-poly 4-metal N-well CMOS technology. The A/D Converter dissipates 440 mW at a 3.3 Volt single power supply and occupies a chip area of 2250um x 3080um.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new First Partial product Addition (FPA) architecture with new compressor (or parallel counter) to CSA tree built in the process of adding partial product for improving speed in the fast parallel multiplier to improve the speed of calculating partial product by about 20% compared with existing parallel counter using full Adder. The new circuit reduces the CLA bit finding final sum by N/2 using the novel FPA architecture. A 5.14nS of multiplication speed of the $16{\times}16$ multiplier is obtained using $0.25\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. The architecture of the multiplier is easily opted for pipeline design and demonstrates high speed performance.

  • In order to implement high-speed data acquistion system in CMOS VLSI technology, means must be found to overcome the relatively low transconductance and large device mismatch characteristic of MOS device. Because of these device limitations, circuit design approaches tradition-ally used in high-speed bipolar analog-to-digital converter(ADC) are suited to CMOS implementation. Also the design of VLSI CMOS comparator wherein voltage comparision is accomplished by means of a pipelined cascade RSA (Regenerative Sense Amplifier). So, in this paper we designed the A/D converter incorporates the pipelined CMOS comparator.
