  • 40Gb/s CMOS Clock and Data Recovery circuit design for optical serial link is proposed. The circuit generates 8 multiphase clock using LC tank PLL and controls the phase between the clock and the data using the $2{\times}$ oversampling Bang-Bang PD. 40Gb/s input data is 1:4 demultiplexed and recovered to 4 channel 10Gb/s outputs. The design was progressed to separate the analog power and the digital power. The area of the chip is $2.8{\times}2.4mm^2$ for the inductors and the power dissipation is about 200mW. The chip has been fabricated using 0.18um CMOS process. The measured results show that the chip recovers the data up to 9.5Gb/s per channel(Equivalent to serial input rate of up to 38Gb/s).

  • This paper presents a multi-channel transceiver that achieves a data rate of 3.125Gb/s/ch. The LVDS is used because of its noise immunity and low power consumption. And a pre-emphasis circuit is also proposed to increase the transmitter speed. On the receiver side, a low-power CDR(clock and data recovery) using 1/4-rate clock based on dual-interpolator is proposed. The CDR generates needed additional clocks in each recovery part internally using only inverters. Therefore each part can be supplied with the same number of 1/4-rate clocks from a clock generator as in 1/2-rate clock method. Thus, the reduction of a clock frequency relaxes the speed limitation and lowers power dissipation. The prototype chip is comprised of two channels and was fabricated in a $0.18{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process. The output jitter of transmitter is loops, peak-to-peak(0.31UI) and the measured recovered clock jitter is 47.33ps, peak-to-peak which is equivalent to 3.7% of a clock period. The area of the chip is $3.5mm^2$ and the power consumption is about 119mW/ch.

  • In this paper, a clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit for a serial link with a half rate 4x oversampling phase and frequency detector structure without a reference clock is described. The phase detector (PD) and frequency detector (FD)are designed by 4X oversampling method. The PD, which uses bang-bang method, finds the phase error by generating four up/down signal and the FD, which uses the rotational method, finds the frequency error by generating up/down signal made by the PD output. And the six signals of the PD and the FD control an amount of current that flows through the charge pump. The VCO composed of four differential buffer stages generates eight differential clocks. Proposed circuit is designed using the 0.18um CMOS technology and operating voltage is 1.8V. With a 4X oversampling PD and FD technique, tracking range of 24% at 3.125Gbps is achieved.

  • This paper describes a modified binary phase detector (Bang-Bang phase detector - BBPD) for jitter reduction in clock and data recovery (CDR) circuits. The proposed PD reduces ripples in the VCO control voltage resulting in reduced jitter for CDR circuits. A 2.5 Gbps CDR circuit with a proposed BBPD has been designed and verified using Dongbu $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. Simulation shows the CDR with proposed PD recovers data with peak-to-peak jitter of 10.96ps, rms jitter of 0.86ps, and consumes 16.9mW.

  • This paper describes the link layer and physical layer of the Serial ATA which is the next generation for parallel ATA specification that defines data transfer between PC and peripheral storage devices. The link layer consists of CRC generation/error detection, 8b/10b decoding/encoding, primitive generation/detection block. For the physical layer, it includes CDR(Cock Data Recovery), transmission PLL, serializer/de-serializer. It also includes generation and receipt of OOB(Out-Of-Band) signal, impedance calibration, squelch circuit and comma detection/generation. Additionally, this chip includes TCB(Test Control Block) and BIST(Built-In Selt Test) block to ease debugging and verification. It is fabricated with 0.18${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ standard CMOS cell library. All the function of the link layer operate properly. For the physical layer, all the blocks operate properly but the data transfer is limited to the 1.28Gbps. This is doe to the affection or parasitic elements and is verified with SPICE simulation.

  • A recovered jitter of CDR(Clock and Data Recovery) Circuit based on Dual-loop DLL(Delay Locked Loop) for data recovery in high speed serial data communication is changed by depending on the input data and reference clock frequency. In this paper, 2-step DPC which has constant jitter performance for wide-range input frequency is proposed. The designed prototype 2-step CDR using proposed 2-step DPC has operation frequency between 200Mbps and 4Gbps. Average delay step of 2-step DPC is 10ps. Designed CDR circuit was tested with 0.18um CMOS process.

  • This paper is proposed all digital wide-range clock and data recovery circuit. The Proposed clock data recovery circuit is possible input data rate which is suggested is wide-range that extends from 100Mb/s to 3Gb/s and used an phase error detector which can use a way of over-sampling a data by using a 1/2-rate multi-phase clock and phase rotator which is regular size per $2{\pi}$/16 and can make a phase rotation. So it could make the phase rotating in range of input data rate. Also all circuit is designed as a digital which has a specificity against a noise. This circuit is designed to 0.13um CMOS process and verified simulation to spectre tool.

  • 4:10 deserializer is proposed to recover 1:10 serial data using 1/4-rate clock. And then, 1/4-rate CDR(Clock and Data Recovery) circuit was designed for SERDES of high-speed serial display interface. The reduction of clock frequency using 1/4-rate clocking helps relax the speed limitation when higher data transfer is demanded. This circuit is composed of 1/4-rate sampler, PEL(Phase Error Logic), Majority Voting, Digital Filter, DPC(Digital to Phase Converter) and 4:10 deserializer. The designed CDR has been designed in a standard $0.18{\mu}m$ 1P6M CMOS technology and the recovered data jitter is 14ps in simulation.
