The purpose of this study was to verify the stability of environmental disposition through analyzing the short term effect of the 'Interior Design History' course on students environmental dispositions, especially their interior image preferences toward traditional/modern, female/masculine, and simple/complex characteristics. The pre-test post-test control group experimental design was used. The independent variable was the experience of the Interior Design History course, and the dependent variable was environmental disposition measured by IIPS(Interior Image Preference Scale). The measurements were done at both beginning and end of fall semester, 1997. Subjects were using 71 undergraduate students of Drafting course (control group) and 35 undergraduate students of Interior Design History course (experimental group) at Y University. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and F-test through ANOCOVA. This research revealed no effect of the Interior Design History course on students interior environmental dispositions. The stability of those environmental dispositions and also the validity of the IIPS were proved.

The purpose of this study was the wumul-maru components of Sarang-taechong with themselves in traditional houses. Physical trace method was used for this study. The samples were taken from the Sarang-taechong of 6 traditional Korean houses, Yunkyungdang, the ancient Chusa estate, Sunkyojang, Chunghyodang, Yangjindang, Unjoru. The major findings were summarized as follows; 1) Regarding to the changgui't'ul(long board); the number was from 0(minimum) to 3(maximum), the size was $244.3{\times}4407.1mm$ on average, and the proportion was 1:18.9. 2) Regarding to the tongguit'ul(center board); the number was from 5(minimum) to 18(maximum), the size $188.7{\times}2374mm$ on average, and the proportion was 1:12.9. 3) Regarding to the marunol; the number was from 42(minimum) to 155(maximum), the size was $247{\times}574mm$ on average and the proportion was 1:2.29.

The curriculum analysis of lighting design course in the Interior architecture departments in American universities reveals they share a major concern in the basic lighting theories, the sorts of light source and lighting equipment, daylighting, and interior lighting plav. The curriculum is usually composed of two semesters, the first semester being about lighting theory and simple project, while the second one abut more professional fields of design studio. The curriculum of lighting design at the Interior architecture departments in Korean colleges and universities usually consists of introductory courses in the field. Almost every institution allocated only one semester for the courses, and as the courses should cover the broad range within a short time, they were lacked in the required depth and systematic approach. The analysis also reveals the curriculum in Korea puts emphasis on the interior lighting equipment design, while disregarding the importance of daylighting. In comparison, American institutions have their curriculum focused upon the use of daylighting. The curriculum of lighting design courses in Korea, a major part of space rendering methods in the field of Interior Architecture, should be improved without delay. The courses should be included in the required subjects and the educational aims should be changed from offering a general understanding of the concepts to providing professional knowledge and skills, which would contribute to the competitiveness of the departments.

The point of this study consists in analysing influences of the postmodern design in the contemporary architecture. Since the modern architecture, new concept of architectural design has been materialized in the Late-Modern and the High-tech style but the revolutionary changes has been tempted by the postmodern architects who introduced the Rhetorical language in the contemporary architecture. In concrete terms postmodern architecture divided architectural elements from existing function (according to U. Eco, it is the primary function of architecture) and gave another function which is the secondary function or the symbolic function or architecture. And the methods of deviation from the conventional code is exactly the rhetorical expression technique which governed the history of art in Europe (but these technique is more intensively applied in the postmodern architecture) So this study is purposed to analyse the different rhetorical "figyres" regarding the syntax and semantic of the architectural langyage, and particularly to approach to the basic mechanism of the New Design Concept in the Contemporary Archiecture.chiecture.

Nowadays minimalism has influence on Korean Architecture and Interior Architecture at the turning of new generatiov. Minimalism is a plural phenomenon that has developed from Modernism to Contemporary but there is the tendency to define minimalism within Architecture and Art. Also it is a fact that there are many disordered minimal aspects in Architecture. This study is started from accurate understanding the mistakes in the field of Interior Architecture, that are brought by the elapse of time, and analogizing the circumstances of Interior Architecture in the field of Architecture. Especially the purpose of this study is to grasp the relation between the minimal characteristics of Korean traditional Architecture and the stagnancy of Korean Architecture. Under the assumption that the characteristics of minimalism exist in Korean tradition, this study contents the characteristics of minimalism in western modernism to analyze the contemporary Korean Architecture and interior Architecture that the assumption is appled to.

The purpose of this study was to identify design evaluation items for assisted living facilities for the elderly. To achieve this purpose, the 23 design issues in assisted living facilities were examined through literature analysis. Then, the field studies were carried out by using these items and by asking open questions, or any other suggestions for unexpected, but important design issues in their facilities. The field studies were conducted through interviews with several residents and surveys with staff in six selected assisted living facilities in Cincinnati, Ohio. Finally, the 23 design evaluation items for assisted living facilities were identified. These items can be used as evaluation criteria or design guidelines for assisted living facilities.

The western architecture is being transformed with the utmost rapidity in the 0th century. The architectural culture is strongly influenced by various thoughts and views on life of people. And then it would reflect the sprit of the same times. Architects have much imaginations that tend to limit of the present at a glance. In order to understand more easily the architectural characteristics, it is the best way to see the architecture at the high of our eyes. That is the reason why the wall was chosen as a element of architecture. I would like to emphasize the architects who were the representative in their ages and their works that are based on the conceptions at that time. However, I didn't refer to make a comparison with qualities of them anywhere of this study. Because it is necessary that we should be accepted the architectural paradigm as a matter of course.

The purpose this study was to examine the actual condition and trends in changing the seating style in the house, focusing on the behavioral posture. The data was collected through the self-entry questionnaire designed for this study and the sample of 400 in total, 200 cases from Korea and 200 cases from Japav. The major findings were as the following : the seating style of Korean and japanese female university students were the floor-seating trends in the present conditiov. But they generally preferred the chair seating in the future. The purpose of the research is to reveal the process of the formation of modern church architecture in 20th century. In order to do that, neo-gothic architecture which starts in the point of view of ethic in the 19th century will be discussed first. Then the relations between Arts and Crafts Movement and church architecture which is the beginning of modern architecture movement will be revealed. After that, the purpose of Secession's church architecture which tried to separate from old architecture and the formation of background of localistic church architecture which is one of the modern church architecture will be discussed. Based on those discussions, the research in concluded the several characteristics of church architecture which makes it modern architecture. The research is focused to the portions which is related to the church architectures among the architectural conditions so complicated as to be easily confused. And also it is focused the architect those who should be mentioned in the same context and their works.

The purpose of this study is to find out the symbolic meaning of interior color a the chosun dynasty's upper class houses, and to review it from a point of view of the Western coloring harmony theory. from this study, the Oriental philosophy, the ideas of Confucianism, and the ethnic traits influenced the interior color of the Chosun Dynasty's upper class houses like an-bang or sarang-bang. The results indicated that main color, auxiliary color, accent color were harmonized with similar harmony by hue and with contrast harmony by value and chroma. Therefore, interior color image of Korean traditional houses should be applied to the various design field as well as modern interior desigv.

This study is on relations between minimalism, which is one of important theme in the contemporary design, and East-oriented speculatiov. Minimalism, one inclination of neo-modernism is characterized by Essentialism. That is connected with East-oriented thinking, especially Taoism. The paradigm of contradiction and paradox replaces the paradigm of rationality and the law of cause and effect. Minimal tendency is appeared at Modernism in 60's and Neo-modernism in 90's. The differences are originated with their manner on simplicity. Minimal tendency in Modernism is characterized by 'less is more' and that in Meo-modernism is by 'more with less'. The minimizing strategy is not considered as means as in modern age but as purpose in neo-modern age. This paper explains minimal architectural space as spatial problem and recognitions on that, not as the figurative problem. Conclusively the relationships between minimalism and eastern ideas are represented through the boundary and extensity of space, void and solid, de-formalization and Essentialism.

Telecommuting becomes a new form of work according to the development of information technology. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the interior space planning of telecommuting centers by means of surveying office workers' opinions. The major findings of this research are as follows. The opinion about whether to use telecommuting center if provided is showed highly positively. In the matter of space type of telecommuting center, 'mixing type I (open plan office but division with high partition)' is the most preferred, the next, is 'closed type'. The most preferred type of workstation is 'independent type', the next is 'X type' and the third is 'link type'. Preferred partition height is '1,300-1,500mm'. When planning telecommuting center, the most important element of space plan is 'size and layout of workstation' and the second is 'private space for confidential work'. In public workplace, the most important element 'refreshment space', and the second one is 'mailing system'.

This study aims to offer fundamental design strategies for concerning public·service space in museums through comparative analysis between korean and foreign museums. In so doing, it deals with the spatial configuration of public·service space. It suggests that the careful consideration about the public·service space should be taken in order to make the museum public in real sense. Some design strategies suggested in this study can be used as fundamental data for a public museum design, in particular at the early stage of the design process.

This study intends to analyze the various spatial structures of the Seoul city museum with reference to the layouts and the qualitative mode of exhibition items. Understanding the way of actual exhibition design can be a clue to understand the contents of exhibition story which guarantees to make the pertinent space and visitors route organization between different levels of architectural space and exhibition space. The basic methodological ideas of this study are as follows; 1) Systematic analysis about the characteristics of exhibits, historic context, and hierachy of each thematic zone. 2) Analysis of physical combination of object spatial cell in the view of visitors circulatiov. The study on architecture can be started with the aesthetic attitude which cognizes it as the art of the space. Architectural space as the subject of the aesthetical study, however, has been ignored such a long period though it should be centered of the whole architectural theory. Even it has not been dealt with independently but just only as a part of aesthetic or artistic field. Also it is true that academic approach to the architectural space as per the aesthetic cognition has not been done so satisfactorily. This study, therefore, aims at prescribing compositional scope from aesthetic cognition of architecture understanding the rational function, mechanic structure, and artistic beauty by man's subject standard of judgement as per the space, the special sphere of architecture. For the absolves, the architectural space in this study is not approached as the spatial art with the meaning of being included the arts general, but with the meaning of intrinsic peculiarity of architecture, based both in practicality of scientific concept and arts of the aesthetic notiov. In order words, the essence of architecture can be prescribed as the architectural realities as the functional, formal and symbolical space not simply the spatial art, and its real but aesthetic meaning can be cognized aesthetically.
