This study looks into the change of the concept of museum and the programs as well from sociocultural point of view Since the very beginning in history, the museum has been a place to educate people with diverse evidences regarding on the human history by preserving legacies of the past. Throughout the long history, the concept of museum and its programs have been revised in accordance with social changes. Consequently, these changes brought the transformation of museums' roles nowadays. The reason is the public in diverse society are so accustomed to stimulus and dynamic cultural changes has induced those change in some senses. The study points that the variation of museum programs are to be developed and museum marketing strategies including global management of art museums should seriously be considered. It also brings new form of museum architecture. The concept of revitalizing museum can expand the band of public and provide them opportunities a place for various cultural activities which can lead a new trend in this society.

This research grasped the change of bathroom type, the present status for the residents' bathrooms, the level of satisfaction and preference for the residents' bathrooms, along with the plane of large-size apartment. This research aims to contribute to making the bathroom space to be able to satisfy the residents' desires. A total of 115 samples, acquired via internet survey, were analyzed with the statistical computer program SPSS PC+ 15.0 with the bathroom plane analysis. The results of this research are as follows. 1) As the results of the most representative plane, were divided into total 4 bathroom types, public bathrooms were $3.9-5.29m^2$ couple bathrooms were over than $3.17-8.3m^2$ in the average bathroom area, and there were two in less than $199m^2$ and even three in more than $199m^2$ in the number of bathrooms. 2) Three bathrooms were preferred by the residents who have three bathrooms now and by the younger generation though two bathrooms were preferred by most residents in the bathroom number. Most of the public bathrooms and couple bathrooms were considered to be proper in the bathroom area. 3) The preferred types were different according to each brand in the preference of the bathroom form. This means that to present a new plane figure including various bathroom forms is recommended in planning the bathroom space hereafter, that the bathroom spaces are changing. 4) In the bathroom environment, to present the technical solution through the study for the natural lighting and the sound arresting is required. This research hopes that the results of this research will be able to be used as the basic data to provide the bathroom space equipped with a pleasant environment condition to the residents.

Recently, the interest is increased rapidly about the New Hanok as contemporary house. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to recognize New Hanok as valuable things, which represents traditionality of urban, and to seek how it can be developed as contemporary house. This research analyze the characteristics of New Hanok is built since 2000. The result are as followings. First, many contemporary architects used only the roofing tiles and traditional Hanok elevation design as the design vocabulary of New Hanok. In future, the design vocabulary of New Hanok must be developed variously. Secondly, the construction of New Hanok is possible from the land of minimum $100m^2$ in a city can be found. Thirdly, as a result of having analyzed at the form and the spatial side, it has been analyzed that New Hanok can be divided into 3 types in the form side, which is 'the transfiguration of format', 'the motive borrowing of traditional elements', 'the vertical extension and reconstruction'. In the spatial side, it has been analyzed that New Hanok can be divided into 3 types, which is 'the center of Madang', 'the integration of circulation', 'the transfiguration of design principle'. Lastly, The contemporary architects were analyzed into having a thought that New Hanok must maintain an appearance of Hanok.

Nowadays, numerous major cities around the world are undergoing urban regeneration through 'culturenomics' as a key strategy, which finds out cultural resources in a cultural backwater and revitalizes the city and its economy by making full use of those resources. The purpose of this study is to research the strategies and the characteristics of the contemporary museum by regeneration of abandoned architecture through such case studies as Tate Modem in London, PSI Contemporary Art Center in New York City, Hamburger Bahnhop-Museum for Contemporary Art in Berlin and Ullens Center for Contemporary Arts in Beijing. This study eventually suggest the basic guideline for the contemporary museum by regeneration of abandoned architecture, aiming to establish Seoul as an environmentally cultural city. The case studies show all of the four museums preserve almost all of their appreances, basic structures and spaces, but, their material expressions, exhibition methods and their programs vary depending on their goals and strategies differentiating the way they preserve the old architectural elements and the way they add the new ones forming their unique characteristics.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning of 'dis-joint' in the works of Louis I. Kahn. Kahn tried to realize his main architectural thoughts of 'what it wants to be' and 'how it was done' through his whole life. The concept of 'dis-joint' had been developed to visualize his architectural thoughts. Kahn used' dis-joint' to show and emphasize the structural system for the raison d'etre of building. Kahn's 'dis-joint' can be categorized as 'spacing', 'butt', 'slit' and 'protrusion'. Kahn used this kind of unusual way of joint beyond simple exposure to stress the existence of element, part and building itself. Through variable combination usage of 'dis-joint', Kahn can realize his architectural thoughts into building in a concrete way. The efficiency and function of joint is not the main issue in his works. 'Dis-joint' was the concrete tool to show the tectonic of architecture and construction process to enhance its presence. Therefore 'dis-joint' of Kahn's architecture is not a joint only to combine building parts but a concrete mean to realize his thoughts in a corporeal way. These facts insinuate that Kahn's architectural philosophy is based on the thoughts of tectonic and its realization.

This research aims to analyze the characteristics of the architectural space of Rem Koolhaas based on the spatial discourse of Gilles Deleuze, a philosopher of post-structuralism which comprehends pluralism accepting even contingency and uncertainty beyond deterministic attitudes of structuralism that has led the western discourses since the 19th century. First of all, this research will reflect on Deleuze's spatial concept through literatures and extract the characteristics related to architectural spaces. Then, on the basis of these characteristics, it will analyze the characteristics which were applied to the interior space of the recent architectural works of Rem Koolhaas to find out how Deleuze's spatial dicourse was embodied. Among Deleuze's speculations, the characteristics which falls under the spatial discourse were classified into three categories; degree between the striated space and the smooth one, the space of events and singularity, and the space of the multiple sense. These analysis words are used to look into the correlations among the specific practicing methods embodied in the architecture of Kookhaas. In conclusion, in the architectural space of Rem Koolhaas, it was found that the characteristics of Gilles Deleuze's spatial discourse of post-structuralism were embodied by the methods such as (1) Space of continuous transition, (2) Space of the $multiplicit{\acute{e}}$ accepting contingent events, (3) Space of the multiple sense, and (4) Space of movement.

Library is a communication channel between book and human. Specially public library furniture plays an important role from every aspect in information materials and users, among users and in relationship between library managers and users. This study defined library furniture as a communication channel which connects library materials and users and was based on 35 local libraries and 12 overseas libraries. The author studied major elements and characteristics which constitute communication types among storage furniture, furniture in reading areas and furniture in digital reading area. The followings are the results from the study. First, storage furniture should be designed by reflecting characteristics of library materials and for effective delivering to the users. Therefore utmost communication can be made by searching for various designs in book-shelves and effective manner of display. Secondly, furniture in reading areas should support various users' needs from customized browsing to long hour studying and there should be properly supported for private space and correspondent reading postures. The third, there are needs for design conditions to support privacy and for comfort from long hour reading and mobility out of posture change in digital reading areas. The fourth, there should be ergonomically designed furniture plan and surroundings in public library which can boost various reading postures. Also furniture plan should be done by considering users' bodies and eyes orientations which can result in improved power of concentration.

In the digital age, as it is ambiguous to distinguish between the original and a replica, the order of reproduction which is more realistic than the reality is becoming a new cultural order. Before the period when digital paradigm dominates, always the reality has been an object to be copied. But, today is an age of Simulacre where code of digital technology dominates. Such a phenomenon is shown in the construction space without exception Gilles Deleuze who was a representative philosopher of the post-structuralism depicted the concept of Simulacre as an instant 'event' passing by without change in an object or substance. As the result of analyzing what kinds of feature for the concept of event is expressed in the digital space, a diagram itself could be a design process, the digital space with correlation was able to be created through the change in the meaning according to the changing image and my body which was the leading part to form primary space. In such a meaning, this study pays attention to Deleuze's 'Event(Simulacre)' concept. At this transitional period when a new concept of digital space is about to take root, the modern philosophers' theories and the discussions about spatial relativity should be continually studied, along with the development of spacial theories for the modem construction.

This study is subway station canopy evaluation to improve the landscape of a street furniture design. From a survey of the professional abstracted the design elements of subway station canopy in Daegu. And then, it practiced a canopy design appreciation by the analysis of appreciation items. The results are as follows. First, this research analyzes each quality a classified by the four characteristics at the subway station. In general station case, the slope roof was consistent in used to be unified. If the symbol of the express station wasn't common in cross-section or material. In addition, the design evaluation in the lower canopy were evaluated. Therefore, in case of the city installed in the canopy, the characteristic of city gateway and the symbolic characteristic of a design that is required. Second, subway station canopy existed in widely opened site come out a lower rating about safety. Therefore, considering the safety light device or system need to do. Third, if the horizontal or sloping roof shape come out in a lower rating, the highly evaluated curve shape is considered to apply. Forth, a structure material of the canopy was highly evaluated the aluminum composite panels and structural steel pipes. Therefore, to improve a beauty of the city, to give rhythm to a structure material of the canopy of the aluminum composite panels and structural steel pipes will be desirable to use as the main ingredient.

Sociological, technical, and organizational changes have affected the culture of business in many ways. These changes are now encouraging new concepts in the workplace environment such as emotional approaches for a more creative and humanistic workplace let alone enhancing image of the company. The aim of this study is to understand current situations of common office areas and serve as a stepping stone for designing more creative and stimulating work environments. The study first examines concepts of new office designs in our modem society, then defines categories such as territorial fuzziness, eco-friendly, fun and play. Secondly, by using content analysis as research tool the researchers have investigated how the conceptual categories and detailed design presentation methods are shown in workplace designs in Korea. Scope of study is limited to 39 office design projects from 2002-2008 presented in the Korean monthly magazine 'Interiors'. As results. territorial fuzziness was found to be most popular method while play the least. For application wise, meeting rooms, rest area and hallways were places where these concepts appear the most. Even though, these new approaches in office designs can be found in our domestic offices, still more experimental and active approach seems to be needed.

Nowadays, the constructions of dams are being issued by the public due to the preservation and protection of nature considered more important than development. These social phenomenon can not be evitable due to arguing the both attitudes, preservation and development of nature. However, There are possibilities to make an agreement with the compromise between the two sides. The common goals of the attitudes are concerning human beings and their life quality. In this atmosphere, the exhibition hall of dams is very important to lead the agreement of both groups because the spaces not only provide contents to compromise by showing positive factors of dams, but present condition of using water as natural resources. The purpose of this study is based on the effect of the applied media in an exhibition hall as presenting education and enlightenment factors. To examine the effect, this study categorizes the existing media by communication types firstly. Secondly, based on the categorization, existing media of each dam exhibition hall are analyzed by numerical way. Thirdly, the general characteristics of applied media are defined by integrating the spatial contents and media. The data from the study are effective to provide the basic data for following design works for the exhibition space.

The SARS virus began to appear and spread in North America and Southeast Asia in the early 2000' s, infecting and harming many people. In the process of examining the causes for the virus, studies on the airborne SARS virus and the way it spread were carried out mainly in the medical field. In the field of architecture, studies were done on the diffusion of air pollutants in buildings using gases such as $CO_2$, $N_2O$, or $SF_6$, but research on virus diffusion was limited. There were also explanations of only the diffusion process without accurate information and discussion on virus characteristics. The aim of this study is to analyze the physical characteristics of airborne virus, consider the possibility of using coupled analysis model and tracer gas for analyzing virus diffusion in building space and, based on reports of how the infection spread in a hospital where SARS patients were discovered, analyze infection risk using tracer gas density and also diffusion patterns according to the location, shape, and volume of supply diffusers and exhaust grilles. This paper can provide standards and logical principles for evaluating various alternatives for making decisions on vertical or horizontal ward placement, air supply and exhaust installation and air volumes in medium or high story medical facilities.

The number of the disabled is increasing every year. Growing interest in social welfare, but still the disabled person in places is restricted on the activities are due to obstacles. This study proposes an improvement direction through an research and analysis of installation status of convenient facilities in social welfare halls was planned after that the law of increase of convenience for the disabled person is enforced in 1998. This study analyzed nine social welfare halls of seoul including Yongsan-gu(GW), Guro-gu(GD, HW), Yeongdeungpo-gu(SG), Seodaemun-gu(SD), Dobong-gu(DB), Nowon-gu(NS), Seongbuk-gu(WG) and Dongdaemun-gu(JG). The evaluation criteria for the installation of convenient facilities for the disabled person in each social welfare hall based on the law of increase of convenience for the disabled person, and referred to other data. Also, review the criteria for the installation of convenient facilities, and grasp the present situation through the survey of convenient facilities in social welfare halls, and provides the installation standards of convenient facilities. The result are as followings. There were many problems to be improved in approach of the intermediate space, parking lot, entrance of the inside space and corridor that must be installed for the convenience of the disabled. In the intermediate space, the slope of the ramp, curb, induction handle etc. for a safety must be installed. Parking spaces for the disabled must be located closest to the main entrance, an induction marker or the handle, and the attachment of a directional sign etc. must be improved. In the inside space, it is convenient for the disabled person use to install an automatic door and swing door simultaneously at the main entrance. And, the height of the door handle, an induction block, a braille display panels of the appropriate height in the entrance, a braille display in start and end of the stairs handle, the handle of the side wall, the stairs to prevent slippage etc. must be improved in the corridors. The case of the sanitation which is a recommendation item is equipped formally with disabled toilets are difficult to use. Information and other convenience facilities for the disabled person in all the social welfare halls were not considered.
