In this paper, a study of damage detection for 2-Dimensional Truss Structures using the parametric projection filter theory is presented. Many researchers are interested in inverse problem and one of solution procedures for inverse problems that are very effective is the approach using the filtering algorithm in conjunction with numerical solution methods. In filtering algorithm, the Kalman filtering algorithm is well known and have been applied to many kind of inverse problems. In this paper, the Parametric projection filtering in conjunction with structural analysis is applied to the identification of damages in 2-D truss structures. The natural frequency and modes of damaged truss model are adopted as the measurement data. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified through the numerical examples.

The primary objective of this paper is to trace the post-buckling behavior of space trusses in the inelastic range. Modeled member material behavior characteristics of struts in the post-critical elasto-plastic stage are determined and three types of idealized hardening rules are described. To perform this analysis, the present work is used the current stiffness parameter method combined with the cylinderical arc-length method. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the accuracy and the application of the numerical solutions introduced above.

The objective of this study is the development of size, shape and topology discrete optimum design algorithm which is based on the genetic algorithms. The algorithm can perform both shape and topology optimum designs of trusses. The developed algerian was implemented in a computer program. For the optimum design, the objective function is the weight of trusses and the constraints are stress and displacement. The basic search method for the optimum design is the genetic algorithms. The algorithm is known to be very efficient for the discrete optimization. The genetic algorithm consists of genetic process and evolutionary process. The genetic process selects the next design points based on the survivability of the current design points. The evolutionary process evaluates the survivability of the design points selected from the genetic process. The efficiency and validity of the developed size, shape and topology discrete optimum design algorithms were verified by applying the algorithm to optimum design examples

A single layer latticed dome is one of the most efficient structures because of its low specivic gravity. For easily analyzing of a single layer latticed dome, joint system is assumed to be pin or rigid joint. However, its joint uses ball whose system has intermediate properties of pin and rigid joint. Therefore this study has a grasp of bending rigidity, stress and mechanical properties through experimental and analyzing method of the bolt inserted ball joint. To analyze the stress of bolt and sleeve, this study uses through 3D elastic contact and cubic element, and then the ball and the bolt are perfectly connected for easily analyzing Compared experimental results to F.E.M, each specimen has an error of less than 12 percent. In the results of stress distribution through F.E.M, stress occurs from bottom of bolt to top of sleeve, and most of tension appears on the bolt, also compression occurs from upper parts of the bolt to the sleeve. The assumption of bending stiffness in ball joint is well known that bolt resists only tension and upper sleeve resiss compression. The results of experiment and analysis have
$7{\sim}56%$ error, assuring that upper part of bolt occurs of partial compression. In the result of modified assumption have$4{\sim}20%$ error. -
This paper is developed a computer program to analysis the elastic local and overall buckling stress based on Eurocode 3 Part 1.3 for the flange and web, and Euler equations for columns of cold-formed channel under compression at elevated temperatures. The high temperature stress-strain relationships of steel used this paper are determined according to Eurocode 3 Part 1.2. Critical temperatures and the elastic local buckling stresses of the cold-formed channel columns under compression at elevated temperatures are analysed by the computer program developed in this study. Analysis examples are given to show the applicability of the computer program developed in this study.

Many researcher's efforts have made a significant advancement of space frame structure with various portion, and it becomes the most outsanding one of space structures. However, with the characteristics of thin and long term of spacing, the unstable behavior of space structure is shown by initial imperfection, erection procedure or joint, especially space frame structure represents more. This kind of unstable problem could not be set up clearly and there is a huge difference between theory and experiment. Moreover, the discrete structure such as space frame has more complex solution, this it is not easy to derive the formulation of design about space structure. In this space frame structure, the character of rise-span ratio or load mode is represented by the instability of space frame structure with initial imperfection, and snap-through or bifurcation might be the main phenomenon. Therefore, in this study, space frame structure which has a lot of aesthetic effect and profitable for large space covering single layer is dealt. And because that the unstable behavior due to variation of inner force resistance in the elastic range is very important collapse mechanism, I would like to investigate unstable character as a nonlinear behavior with a geometric nonlinear. In order to study the instability. I derive tangent stiffness matrix using finite element method and with displacement incremental method perform nonlinear analysis of unit space structure, star dome and 3-ring star dome considering rise-span
$ratio(\mu}$ and load$ratio(R_L)$ for analyzing unstable phenomenon. -
First author proposed a proportioning method for member sections of a single layer reticulated dome subjected to uniform and non-uniform load without any geometrical initial imperfection, and discussed the validity and effectiveness of the method which was based on linear buckling stress and a knock down factor. However, buckling of a single layer reticulated dome is strongly affected by initial imperfection. It is well known that geometrical initial imperfections reduce the nonlinear buckling capacity of a single layer raticulated dome. Thus, structural engineers may be recommended to reflect the effects of geometrical initial imperfections in proportioning member sections. In this paper, firstly, the presented proportioning method by first author is applied to dome without consideration of any imperfections and the thickness and diameter of each member are determined. Secondly, the load bearing capacities of the proportioned domes are checked with the imperfection, by the inelastic buckling analysis.

The measured damping ratio was analysed to obtain amplitude dependence. Wind-induced vibration of 20 story steel-framed building was measured to investigate amplitude dependence by RD method. Micro-tremo vibrations of 20 RC bearing wall typed buildings were performed to analysis the amplitude dependence by formula proposed by Tamua and ESDU. Amplitude dependent damping in 17 story steel-framed building was showed clearly in the increasing rate of 9%. But Amplitude dependent damping of 17 RC bearing wall typed buildings was very low in the increasing rate of 2.5%. The tendency of dynamic properties of building obtained here are useful for the validation of dynamic properties of buildings in the evaluation of serviceability.

This study presents an effective stiffness-based optimal technique to control quantitatively lateral drift for 3-D steel frameworks subject to lateral loads. To this end, the displacement sensitivity depending on behavior characteristics of 3-D steel frameworks is established. Also, approximation concept that can preserve the generality of the mathematical programming and can efficiently solve large scale problems is introduced. Resizing sections in the stiffness-based optimal design are assumed to be uniformly varying in size. Two types of 30-story frames are presented to illustrate the features of the Quantitative lateral drift control technique proposed in this study.

The pushover analysis is becoming a popular tool for seismic design of building structures. In this paper the state-of-art on static nonlinear analysis of building structures is presented with the emphasis on the effects of analysis parameters; i. e., lateral load patterns, modeling of members, and analysis computer programs. The analysed results may have variation even if a same structure is analysed. This paper is to investigate how large the variation is and what the main causes of the variation are. The difference of analysed results, the resultant variation of lateral story shear force and flexural strength of structural members are discussed. The pushover analysis procedure are routinely used in the seismic design of building structures, but some problems must yet be clarified, such as the effects to evaluate the parameters of analysis on the basis of a lateral load patterns and modeling of members.

Cable domes deform very largely because of the characteristics of flexible hybrid system and pre-tension, and include geometrical non-linearity in those structural behavior. Especially wind load is more dominant than seismic load, because cable domes are flexible structures whose bending stiffness is very small and self-weight is very light. Therefore, in this paper, the Modified Stiffly Stable Method is applied to analyze the nonlinear dynamic behavior of cable domes and compared these results with ones of the
$Newmark-{\beta}$ Method which is generally used. The Seoul Olympic Gymnastic Arena is taken as an numerical example and three kinds of models with giving each different intensity of pre-tension are selected. And dynamic nonlinear behavior of cable domes are analyzed by artificial spectrum of wind velocity wave which is similar to actual wind loads. -
The recent large-spatial structures are frequently made from light-weight structural system and it has a good mechanical efficiency and uses new materials. The large space is made by light-weight structural system using tension members mainly, and generally it is called a soft structure. The cable dome structures which are a soft structures are very flexible, the stresses and nodal coordinates of other members are changed when we control the stress of one member. Therefore, we have to do two kind of works for effective and accurate construction of the cable dome structures. The first work is making a working scenario to complete the final objective form and the second is revising constructional errors occurred in process of the actual works. These works are called constructional analysis. At this time, we have to consider geometric nonlinearity to reflect the sensitivity by the initial stresses of cable dome structures, and constructional analysis comes down to a nonlinear problem after all. In this study, we try to approach the constructional analysis of the cable dome structures using the numerical method, and then verify it.

The cable structure is a kind of ductile structural system using the tension cable and compression column as a main element. From mechanical characteristics of the structural material, it is profitable to be subjected to the axial forces than bending moment or shear forces. And we haweto consider the local buckling when it is subjected to compression forces, but tension member can be used until the failure strength. So we can say that the tension member is the most excellent structural member. Cable dome structures are made up of only the tension cable and compression column considering these mechanical efficiency and a kind of structural system. In this system, the compression members are connected by using tension members, not connected directly each other. Also, this system is lightweight and easy to construct. But, the cable dome structural system has a danger of global buckling as external load increases. That is, as the axisymmetric structure is subjected to the axisymmetric load, the unsymmetric deformation mode is happened at some critical point and the capacity of the structure is rapidly lowered by this reason. This phenomenon Is the bifurcation and we have to reflect this in the design process of the large space structures. In this study, We investigated the nonlinear unstable phenomenon of the Geiger, Zetlin and Flower-type cable dome.

The structure systems with non-rigid member were classified by the composition type of line and surface members. As a result of the classification, there are 1-way cable structure, cable net and radial cable net structure in the line member system. And there are pneumatic structure and suspension membrane structure in surface member system. In addition, when the line and surface members are composed together, there is the hybrid membrane system which are divided into hanging type and supported type. In this paper, the Korean terms of structure systems with non-rigid member are recommended through this classification. In each the structure systems with non-rigid member, the examples were also investigated considering their historical developments. It present that the light weight structure system and the openness of space have pursued with the developments. So largely, cable net structure with membrane, membrane structure and hybrid structure have used in these days.

The dynamic instability of snapping phenomena has been studied by many researchers. Few papers deal with dynamic buckling under loads with periodic characteristics, and the behavior under periodic excitations is expected to be different from behavior under STEP excitations. We investigate the fundamental mechanisms of the dynamic instability when the sinusoidally shaped arch structures are subjected to sinusoidally distributed excitations with pin-ends. The mechanisms of dynamic indirect snapping of shallow arches are especially investigated under not only STEP function excitations but also under sinusoidal harmonic excitations, applied in the up-and-down direction. The dynamic nonlinear responses are obtained by the numerical integration of the geometrically nonlinear equation of motion, and examined by Fourier spectral analysis in order to get the frequency-dependent characteristics of the dynamic instability for various load levels.

Researches on spherical shell which is most usually applied have been completed by many investigators already and generalized numerical formula was derived. But the existent researches are limited to those on spherical shell with isotropic or orthotropic roof stiffness, periodic distribution of roof stiffness that can be caused by spherical and latticed roof system is not considered. Therefore, this paper is to develop a structural analysis program to analyze spherical shells that have periodicity of roof stiffness distribution caused by latticed roof of large space structure, grasp buckling characteristics and behavior of structure.

Deployable structures are space frames consisting of straight bars that are linked together into bundle and can be deployed large, load bearing structures. Deployable structures are easy to set up, to assemble, to disassemble, to transport and to keep for the use. Also, reusability and flexibility are another important advantages for environmental matter. Since deployable structures have various advantages, they offer viable alternatives for a wide range of potential applications in the temporary construction industry as well as in the aerospace industry. The purpose of this thesis is to decide on geometrical parameters of the design through the numerical analysis and create a final configuration of deployable structures using the geometrical parameters. The Multibody Dynamic Analysis that is dealt with mechanics and aeronautics is used for the method of analysis.

Thick composite laminated plates is considered in 3D finite-element. To consider continuity of transverse stresses and displacement field, mixed finite-element has been developed by using layerwise theory and the minimum potential energy principle. Mixed finite-element has been enforced through the thick direction, Z, of a laminated plate by considering six degree-of-freedoms per node. Six degree-of-freedoms are three displacement components in the coordinate axes directions and three transverse stress components
${\sigma}_z,\;{\tau}_{xz},\;{\tau}_{yz}$ . The model maintain the fundamental elasticity relations that are stress-strain relation and displacement-strain relation, because the transverse stress components invoked as nodal degrees of freedom by using the fundamental elasticity relationship between th components of stress and displacement. Random vibration analysis of the model is performed by computing consistent mass matrix and computing covariance in frequency domain technique. -

This paper deals with the flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete beams by means of thin fiber reinforced plastic(FRP) laminas. This study focuses on modeling of structural of concrete bonded FRP laminate in flexural bending members. Used computational equation is derived by relation of stress and strain. The section analysis is based on experimental observations of a linear strain distribution in the cross section until failure, and a multi-linear moment-deflection curve that is divided into four regions, each terminated by a similarly numbered point. The load-deflection relationship in each region is assumed to be linear. The present model is validated to compare wit the experiment of 4-point bending tests of R/C rectangular beams strengthened with CFRP laminates, and has well predicted the moment-displacement relationships of members.

This study purports to analyze equally stressed surfaces in tension-membrane structures through a geometrically nonlinear approach. It adopts the formulation of a 4-node quadrilateral isoparametric plane stress element considering the orthotropic characteristic of membrane textures. Tension structures, which include cables and tension membranes, such as a cable dome initially exhibit unstable conditions because no initial internal stiffness such as bending stiffness is present. Such a structural system requires prestressing to the tension members to attain a stable state. A tension-membrane structure retains a stable three dimensional curved surface as a structural shape. This analytical process for finding the geometry is referred to as Shape Finding Analysis. In order to assess the validity of this study, we examine equally stressed surfaces of saddle and catenary shape shell structures and carry out pertinent stress analyses

This paper discuss the conditionally sampled actual wind pressure distributions causing peak quasi-static wind loads in the large span roofs using the wind pressures at many locations on dome models measured simultaneously in a wind tunnel. The actual extreme pressure distributions are compared itk load-response-correlation (LRC) method and the quasi-steady pressure distributions. Based on the results, the reason for the discrepancy in the LRC pressure distribution and the actual extreme pressure distribution are discussed. Futhermore, a brief discussion is made of the equivalent static wind load estimation for the large span roofs.

This paper focused on problems of design, construction, and maintenance caused by construction implementation processes. They were analyzed through case study of structure safety diagnosis projects. From the case study, it is expected that the introduction of Construction Management from the first stage of procurement will improve construction cost increase or burden on small design company. It strengthens coherent management from design and source contractor selection to build review of responsibility. The coherency will prevent changes in designing or infirm unreliable construction. It is desirable that expert opinions are considered when structure changes and establishment occur and that, if necessary, actions such as source selection, periodic audits, and diagnosis arc checked and fed back to maintenance.

An accumulated crack damage which propagates progressively with time was frequently observed on several engineering structures, This paper numerically demonstrates this damage process on large cooling tower shells under thermal and wind loads. Damage states under varying loads are investigated and the influence of this progressive damage process on the life-cycle of cooling towers discussed. The paper presents briefly some fundamentals of the geometrically and physically non-linear numerical analysis employed for reinforced concrete, especially concerning the models used for concrete, steel reinforcement and the bond between them. As a numerical example an existing cooling tower with noticeable meridian crack damage is analysed. The existing damage state of the cooling tower is determined by quasi-static analyses for temperature, hygric and cyclic wind leading. The change in the dynamical behaviour of the structure as mirrored in its natural frequencies and mode shapes is presented and discussed. Finally, the example shows that such damage processes develop progressively over the life-time of the structures.
