Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of aqueous extract from Picrasmae Lignum(PL). Methods: To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of PL extract, the productions of NO, PGE2 and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine(IL-1b, IL-6 and TNF-a) were measured in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Furthermore Western blot analysis has been done to look into the inhibitory mechanisms such as MAPKs and NF-kB. Results: PL extract down-regulated LPS-induced NO, PGE2, IL-1b, IL-6 and TNF-a productions mainly through JNK and p38 MAPK pathway and NF-kB pathway. Conclusions: These results suggest that PL extract may be effective for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of aqueous extract from Cicadidae Periostracum(CP) on the RAW 264.7 cells. Method: We examined the cytokine productions including nitric oxide(NO), interleukin(IL)-1b, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells and also inhibitory mechanisms such as mitogen -activated protein kinases(MAPKs) and nuclear factor kappa BNF-kB) using Western blot. Results: CP inhibited LPS-induced production of NO, IL-1b and TNF-a but not of IL-6 in RAW 264.7 cells. CP respectively inhibited the activation of MAPKs such as extracelluar signal-regulated kinase(ERK 1/2), c-Jun $NH_2$-terminal kinase(JNK), p38 and NF-kB in the LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Also oral administration of CP inhibited CLP - induced endotoxin shock. Conclusion: our results showed that CP down-regulated LPS-induced NO, IL-1b and TNF-a productions mainly through ERK, JNK, p38 MAPK and NF-kB pathway, which suggest the anti-inflammatory effects of CP.

Objectives: This study was designed to investigate the effect of Ojeok-san(OJS) on the estradiol valerate(EV)-induced polycystic ovaries(PCO) in rats. Methods: PCO was induced by single intramuscular injection with estradiol valerate(EV)(4mg) in female rats. Normal group(n=8) were injected with sesame oil and orally administrated distilled water for sixty days. PCO control group (n=8) were injected with EV and orally administrated distilled water for sixty days. OJS treated group(n=8) were injected with EV and orally administrated OJS for sixty days. Then, we measured weights of body, ovaries, adrenal glands and uterus of rats. The histomorphometrical changes of ovaries were also evaluated. And we observed the NGF and CRF expression by immunohistochemistry. Results: The results were as follows - The weights(mg) of ovaries in OJS treated group($57.4{\pm}9.4$) were significantly increased(p < 0.05) compared with PCO control group($42.3{\pm}8.5$). - The numbers of mature follicles in OJS treated group($9.3{\pm}2.5$) were significantly increased(p < 0.05) compared with PCO control group($6.1{\pm}2.1$). - The expressions of NGF-immunoreactive cells in the ovarian granulosa cells in OJS treated group were weaker than PCO control group. Conclusion: From the these results, we concluded that Ojeok-san(OJS) has inhibitory effect on the development of EV-induced polycystic ovary. And it's effect maybe related with decreased NGF activities in the ovary.

Objective: This study was performed to investigate the effect of acupuncture at HT8 on brain activity in perimenopausal women using fMRI. Methods: 15 healthy perimenopausal women volunteered in the study. No stimulation, sham stimulation, duration of acupuncture treatment on HT8, and rotation of acupuncture treatment on HT8 were randomly given for 6 minutes, with 20 seconds' intervals. Results: 1. In comparison with sham stimulation(Sham-B) and duration of acupucture (S1-B, S1-Sham, S2-S1), the areas of fMRI signal activation areas were just like cases including no stimulation. But the areas of vision were activated in S1-Sham. 2. In comparison with duration of acupuncture(S1-B, S1-Sham, S2-S1) and rotation of acupuncture(S2-B, S2-Sham, S2-S1), the areas of vision were activated in duration of acupuncture, and Supplementary motor area(SMA) were especially activated in rotation of acupuncture. Conclusions: After using fMRI and analysing effect of acupuncture treatment at HT8, we could confirm that fMRI signal activation areas by acupuncture treatment at HT8 were different from areas by sham stimulation. And according to acupuncture stimulation methods with duration and rotation, etc, we could confirm the specific reactions of series, and could get useful basic data for research of acupuncture from now on.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the gynecologic use of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus(葱白) in Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑). Methods: I reviewed Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑) to researched the gynecologic use of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus(葱白) as Danbang(單方) in Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑) and the use of Allium Fistulosum Linne(葱) about women's breast disease in Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑). Results: Allii Fistulosi Bulbus(葱白) is an effectual remedy for pregnancy and childbirth. And Allii Fistulosi Bulbus(葱白) is used as not only medicine for internal use but also medicine for external use. The method of Wibub(慰法) with Allii Fistulosi Bulbus(葱白) for woman's diseases is to stupe a lower abdomen. Allium Fistulosum Linne(葱) is used in women's breast disease as medicine for internal use and medicine for external use. Conclusions: Allii Fistulosi Bulbus(葱白) is able to be used in disease about pregnancy and childbirth. so I consider that it is necessary to study methods which improve practical use of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus(葱白).

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine correlation between Heart Rate Variability and urine analysis of women with urinary disturbance. Methods: We studied 34 patients visiting ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$hospital from January 2010 to September 2010. The subjects were categorized in two groups, symptom group (n=11) and no symptom group(n=23). We studied the difference of Heart Rate Variability and urine analysis between two groups by Student T-test and correlation between Heart Rate Variability and urine analysis by Pearson's correlation coefficient test using SPSS for windows (version 17.0). Results: Occult blood of symptom group was significantly higher than no symptom group. SDNN, TP and HF of symptom group was significantly lower than no symptom group. Occult blood and SDNN, occult blood and RMS-SD, occult blood and HF significantly showed negative correlation coefficient. pH and TP, pH and LF significantly showed positive correlation coefficient. Conclusion: The results suggest that urinary disturbance can be related to decreased activity of autonomic nervous system. Also urine from women with urinary disturbance tend to show higher occult blood.

Objectives: To evaluate the clinical use of Kupperman's Index, Menopausespecific quality of life questionnaire(MENQOL), Menopause Rating Scale(MRS) by comparison with the Subjective measures of hot flush. Methods: The participants were 107 women (45-60 yr) who were not currently on hormone therapy, and had reached hot flash scores of 10 or higher. The evaluating indexes of this trial are hot flush score, hot flush VAS, Hot flush consistence time, sweating VAS, Kupperman`s Index, Menopause-specific quality of life questionnaire (MENQOL), Menopause Rating Scale(MRS). Results: 1. The hot flush score, hot flush VAS, sweating VAS were significantly correlated with each other, but the Hot flush consistence time with no special relationship was found on Subjective measures of hot flush 2. The Kupperman's Index, Menopause-specific quality of life questionnaire (MENQOL) and Menopause Rating Scale(MRS) were significantly correlated with each other. 3. There was significant correlation between Subjective measures of hot flush and Menopause-specific quality of life questionnaire(MENQOL), Thus Menopausespecific quality of life questionnaire(MENQOL) is considered the most suitable on hot flush related research. Conclusions: There was significant correlation between Subjective measures of hot flush and Menopausal scale, thus the use of various indicators are needed for the assessment of climacteric symptoms.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to recognize the relation of menstrual pattern and dysmenorrhea affected by obesity of first-year female college students. Methods: From March 22th to April 2nd, 2010 we researched 251 first-year female students at OOcollege, aged 19(born after March 1991 to February 1992) by questionnaires to investigate their Body Mass Index(BMI), menstruation and dysmenorrhea. The BMI range of normal group is 18.5~25, abnormal group is over 25. Results: 1. The normal group was 227 people(90.4%) and the abnormal group(over BMI 25) was 24 people(9.6%). 2. In the mean of BMI, the normal group was $21.08{\pm}1.64$ and the abnormal group was $27.94{\pm}2.19$. 3. There was no statistical difference between the normal group and the abnormal group in menstrual cycle, menstrual amount, menstrual color and menstrual blood clot. 4. There was statistical difference between the normal group and the abnormal group in menarcheal age, menstrual duration and dysmenorrhea. 5. In the mean of VAS, the normal group was $3.68{\pm}2.45$ and the abnormal group was $3.21{\pm}2.05$, and two groups were not different statistically. Conclusion: This study showed the relation of menstrual pattern and dysmenorrhea affected by obesity. The normal group and the abnormal group were different statistically in menarcheal age, menstrual duration and dysmenorrhea. In consequence of this study, it was supposed that obesity had an effect on menstruation.

Objectives: This study aims to search the clinical cases that treated leiomyoma through the traditional Chinese medicine, to understand the study trend on leiomyoma in China, and to clairfy the cause of leiomyoma and its treatment by the oriental medicine herbs. Methods: We searched the key word "leiomyoma" in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI)[http://www.cnki.net], and narrowed its searching area to the papers published in the year 2010. Of 720 study papers, we chose 21 clinical papers on the leiomyoma, and studied the patient case, treating method, result of treatment, and checked the category, cause, treatment method of leiomyoma. Results: The results are shown in the Table 1-3. Conclusions: Leiomyoma is categorized in the traditional Chinese medicine as both lump occuring inside the body and stony abdominal lump. The main cause of leiomyoma is qi-stagnation and blood stasis, essence deficiency and pathogen affluence. The treatment method is used by activating blood and resolving stasis but harmonizing the spleen and stomach to prevent damaging healthy qi. The development herbal medicine of treating leiomyoma is Gyehongbyeolgaphwan, Gyejibongnyeonggyonang, Gungryusogyonang, Angonpyoen etc. In treating leiomyoma, the herbs were much used to regulate qi as Baekbokryung, Danggwi, Baekchul, Doin, Moryeo, Achul, Mokdanpi etc. Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) treatment of leiomyoma has efficiency of improve symptom but low ratio of complete recovery.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to know the correlation of transvaginal sonography findings, CA-125 and blood stasis pattern for 15 adenomyosis patients. Methods: We got questionnaires from 15 patients among 243 patients who had hysterectomy related with adenomyosis in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, OO medical center from April 11th 2010 to November 15th 2010, and analyzed them. We conducted correlation analysis between age, pain(VAS), duration of pain and blood stasis score, and between difference and sum of uterine walls, CA-125 and blood stasis score. For statistics, we used Spearman correlation coefficient and SPSS version 17.0 for windows. Results: The correlation between sum of uterine walls and CA-125 showed statistical significance. The correlation between CA-125 and blood stasis score showed statistical significance. There is no statistically correlation between age, VAS, duration of the pain and blood stasis score. There is no statistically correlation between difference of uterine walls and CA-125, and between difference and sum of uterine walls and blood stasis score. Conclusion: The result showed that sum of uterine walls is related with CA-125. We need a further study to develop blood stasis indicators with a validated questionnaire, and more subjects involved at multiple institutions.

Objectives: Oriental Medicine has thousands years of history. But this era, every medical decision should be based on scientific evidence, that is evidence-based medicine (EBM). This study is to suggest quantitative case report form for dysmenorrhea that can be easily used in clinics. Methods: First, to search published papers in Korea and overseas, OASIS, KISS and NCBI(pubmed) database. Second, to search clinical trials in clinical trial register website, ISRCTN and clinicaltrials.gov. Result: Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) is the most commonly used scale. Conclusion: The main scales for dysmenorrhea are Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Multidimensional verbal Rating scale(MVRS), pain-killer intake amount and restriction of daily life activities. To measure the effect of herbal medicine, more than 2 menstrual cycle is recommended.
