The Effect of Free-inquiry Science Activity and Characteristics of Interaction in Each Inquiry Steps by Cognitive Level and Learning Motivational Type of the Students (학습자의 인지수준 및 학습동기 유형에 따른 자유주제 과학탐구의 효과 및 탐구 단계별 상호작용 특성)

  • This paper analyzed the improvement of cognitive level of the students and interactions which occurred in each step of free-topic scientific inquiry to help science teachers understand free-topic scientific inquiry better. Free-topic scientific inquiry is helpful to students with a deep strategic learning goal orientation type or a deep strategic ability goal orientation type in their transition (2B/3A) of cognitive levels. Most students have difficulties in the phase of establishing topics and hypotheses. The result says that the discussion techniques are improved through free-topic scientific inquiry, but the quality of interaction is not easily improved. The deep strategic learning goal orientation type concretizes opinion through interaction in free-topic scientific inquiry. The deep strategic ability goal orientation type are actively involve in the interaction, but they pay no attention to the process because they stick to the result. The surface strategic ability goal orientation type can not deepen a discussion due to high frequency of low level inquiry. However, the frequency of high level inquiry increases through free topic scientific inquiry operation. As a result, the characteristics of free-topic scientific inquiry were discussed and the educational implications of the progress of free-topic scientific inquiry and the organization of grouping were drawn.

A Study on Home Economics Teachers' Perception in Free Learning Semester (자유학기제 운영에 대한 가정과 교사의 인식 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the perception and understanding of Free Learning Semester (FLS) in home economics teachers and to provide basic informations for effective implement of FLS in future school curricula. Home economics teachers perceived that the objective of FLS was to help students explore their careers and make preliminary decisions. In addition, teachers thought that FLS should be run by active students' participation to find out their dreams and talents. However, teachers felt difficulties in obtaining information or documents related to implementing FLS. Moreover, there were lack of connected activities with local communities to operate FLS. Teachers recognized that it is necessary to receive FLS-related education. Regarding home economics teachers' role in FLS implement, they should provide career education with a perspective of lifelong career and nurture students' capability to lead their lives by themselves. In that sense, FLS should help students find out their dreams and talents, think about their career, set up lifelong career plan through home economics education, and nurture capability to lead their lives. In addition, home economics teachers should provide continuous career education in home economics education at academic semesters.

  • In 2021, AI basics were introduced in the high school curriculum. There are many worries that the problem of utilization-oriented education will be repeated with the introduction of artificial intelligence education rather than the principles that occurred when ICT was applied to education in the past. Most of the existing AI education platforms focus only on the use of AI. For artificial intelligence education of middle school students, there are difficulties in learning about the process by which artificial intelligence derives results and learning the principles of artificial intelligence algorithms. Recently, as the educational application of metaverse has become a hot topic, research has been started to improve learning achievement by arousing students' immersion and interest. This research developed educational game contents about decision tree algorithm using metaverse as educational contents that can be used in middle school AI education. By applying games to education, it was intended to increase students' interest and immersion in artificial intelligence, and to increase educational effectiveness. In this paper, the educational effectiveness, difficulty, and level of interest were analyzed for pre-service teachers regarding the developed game content. Based on this, a future principle-oriented artificial intelligence education method was suggested.

Design and Implementation of Teaching-Learning System for ICT Underachivers (ICT 학습부진아를 위한 교수-학습 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • It is more than 10 years since ICT training learning was introduced to educational curriculum, and it is now time for overall consideration about the result of the education. The most important difficulties that the teachers have are that there are big differences in the level of learning ability. The characteristics of ICT curriculum are its tool and stepwise progress. The main problem of a curriculum with such characteristics is with underachivers. To distinguish ICT underachivers, the present study was developed a distinction tool for investigation: The objects were the students in the 6th grade of the 4 elementary schools in Gyeonggi-do, and inquires were made to find out characteristics. Inquires were also made to the elementary school teachers in Goyang-city to find out the actual instructional situation. A teaching-learning system will be suggested to prevent the occurring of ICT underachivers by analyzing their characteristics. The system consists of a distinction examination module, a teaching-learning module and a feedback module, which are web-based, as well as an off-line actual class module. The purpose of the system is to prevent underachivers in ICT classes, so that the students' ability to utilize computer will be improved to a higher level.

Middle School Students' Construction of Physics Inquiry Problems and Variables Isolation and Clarification during Small Group Open-inquiry Activities (중학생의 소집단 자유탐구활동 중 물리 영역 탐구문제의 구성과 변인 추출 및 명료화 과정)

  • The study aimed to analyze middle school students construction of physics inquiry problems for open inquiry from the viewpoint of variable isolation and clarification, and investigate students' difficulties during the processes of variable isolation and clarification to get implications for teaching and learning strategies for small group open inquiry activities which have been included in the 2007 national curriculum. The participants were 4 students who had attended an outreach program for the science gifted run by a university institution located in Seoul area. They performed an open inquiry on egg drop for 13 lessons for 30 hours. Level descriptions for variable isolation and clarification have been developed and applied to analyze students' inquiry problems and variables included by the problems. Students iterated inquiry processed 5 times and the inquiry problem showed progress gradually. Dependent variables have been isolated ahead and the levels of variable isolation and clarification showed higher than the independent variables. Many kinds of independent variables isolated extensively and the independent variables and control variables have been mingled. One of the reasons why students had some difficulties in isolation of independent variables could be the absence of theoretical models. The realities of school lab could restrict the variable isolation and clarification as well as topic selections. Some sensory or extensive variables such as broken eggs and drop height seem to be salient to be focused on as core variables. Lack of background knowledges could be one of the reasons for students' difficulties in variable clarification, such as theoretical definitions and operational definitions. As a result of lacking background knowledges, students could not construct theoretical models even though they could isolate and clarify variables as scientific lexical definitions. Some perceptions of inquiry as trial and error or reckless establishment of causal relations between variables could be accounted as one reason.

An overview on humanistic imagination in mathematics education (수학교육에서 인문학적 상상력에 대한 소고)

  • The purpose of this study is to discuss what the incorporation of humanistic imagination into mathematics means to mathematics education and to suggest implications for mathematics education in school mathematics. Traditionally, mathematics has been perceived to be far from our life problems because it targets logical and pure abstract thinking. According to international mathematics and science studies such as TIMSS and PISA, Korean students have relatively high mathematics achievement in the international research, but their attitude toward mathematics is very negative and their awareness of why they are learning mathematics and their satisfaction with life is low. In mathematics education, linking mathematics with humanities imagination allows students to view problems of human life from a humanities perspective, and to have an understanding of others and reflect on themselves from a new perspective. The researcher introduces several examples of whether mathematics and humanistic imagination can be combined for mathematics education. In this study, the ultimate reason for learning mathematics is to achieve learners to realize the principles of life or Dharma, and to live a happier life. However, in order to expand its rich meaning by making these new attempts in mathematics education, the researcher argued that tolerance and patience are needed for many challenges and difficulties in improving the quality of mathematics content itself including applying humanistic imagination to mathematics properly.

A study of subjective oral health actual condition in elementary school teachers, Daegu area (치기공과와 치위생과 학생의 특성과 전공학습 인지도)

  • Surveying perception of majors to students of Department of dental technology 433(48.3%) and Department of dental hygiene 463(51.7%), and their sex rates 272 (30.4%) for males and 624 (69.6%) for females, 896 examines in total, have let us to know the level of student's perception of their majors and now able to adjust the level of major's lectures and maximize the ability to study has brought these conclusions. 1. Although the hometowns of students had similar rates between large and small cities disregarding their departments, the type of highschool had differences for the academic highschool graduators were the most. Also, CSAT was the highest than other specialized types when entering. 2. Self selection considering employment percentage was the highest for the student's choice of selecting department of dental hygiene and dental technology. 3. For the satisfaction of school and education systems, "satisfied" and "normal" were as high as 74% in both department of dental hygiene and dental technology for school satisfaction, and 75%, 74% for satisfaction of environment from the two departments. 4. As for the satisfaction of department and environment, department of dental hygiene and dental technology both answered "satisfied" and "normal" the most, but in satisfaction of companions, they have shown relatively high satisfaction by answering "very satisfied" and "satisfied". 5. Difficulties of majors relating to the perception of learning, department of dental technology and dental hygiene both answered too much to memorize and hard to understand. 6. Department of dental technology's try for majors relating to the level of perception of learning have shown that they have high understandings in proportion to how much they try but for department of dental hygiene has shown not much differences. 7. Department of dental hygiene had higher stress than department of dental technology in studying majors and there were both some differences statistically.

A Study on ICT-based Elementary Education for Musical Composition Using Multimedia (멀티미디어를 활용한 ICT 기반 초등학교 가락짓기 교육에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this paper is to verify the usefulness and validity of ICT-based elementary education for musical composition using multimedia technology. Cearing with the characteristic of musical education, multimedia technology, which has made dazzling progress thanks to the rapid development of computer for the last several year, is expected to be a new alternative to overcome various problems of musical education and enhance students` musical function and knowledge. In particular, if ICT-based musical education is introduced in teaching musical composition, in which many elementary school techers feel difficulties, significant education effects will be produced. ICT-based musical education method in the paper identified imitation and problems in traditional theory-based learning and musical composition class using musical instruments and, as a part of resolving the limitations and problems, instructed elementary students in how to use a computer program and applied the program to musical composition class. As a result, the method maximized learning effect and improved stusents` ability to create melodies in a short term compared to traditional teaching methods.

A Case Study of Teaching and Learning English via E-textbook (디지털 교과서를 이용한 영어 교수-학습 사례연구)

  • Recent technological advancements, along with an increase in mobile Internet access, have spurred on significant developments in the production of e-textbooks. This case study explored the affordances of an iPad e-textbook through teacher and student experiences in English lessons using observation and interviews. The results showed that English learners and teacher benefited from handy and quick web access and the all-in-one features of the e-textbook (dictionary, hyperlinks, and note-taking functions). However, information oversupply by the e-textbook confused students' learning and both students and teacher pointed out technical difficulties in using the e-textbook. In order to implement English pedagogy with technologies such as iPad e-textbooks, teachers should be equipped with the relevant technical skills and content knowledge in order to assist them in becoming autonomous learners in the digital classroom.

  • As job mismatch intensifies in the employment market, the work based learning has emerged as a solution to this social problem. The so called Korean dual education system is expected to raise jobseekers equipped with knowledge and skills demanded by industry. This study intends to recommend an effective operational model for contracted education programs at higher institutions in order to support soft landing of Korean dual education system. Students of contracted education programs are adults graduated from vocational high schools and working for companies during weekdays. In consideration of the difficulties experienced by employee students, more flexible operation of academic affairs is required. To address these challenges, the recommended contracted education model includes such beneficial features as S-OJT courses, standard curriculum based on National Competency Standard, recognition of prior learning, flipped classroom, and tutoring system. In the last part, several directions for implementing the new contracted education model are discussed.
