  • In today's media environment, TV programmers and advertisers must strive ever harder to attract the attention of audiences. Yet what may be even more crucial is engaging audiences in conversations on social media and nourishing stronger relationships. To provide insights into how to improve audience experiences through social media television coviewing (STVC) behaviors, this study investigates audience motivations for using social networking sites (SNSs) while watching sports program (i.e., social media television coviewing-STVC) and examines relationships between identified motivations and key audience engagement outcomes. The results reveal four motivations for STVC behaviors: sports-related interaction seeking, information seeking, convenience seeking, and socializing. Further, results reveal that sports-related interaction seeking, information seeking, and socializing motivations are significant predictors of satisfaction, investment, and commitment to the program. Audience engagement outcomes are not predicted, however, by convenience seeking or by variables pertaining to SNS-use regarding STVC behaviors.

Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 22.0 program. First, regarding the effects of work spirituality of art psychotherapists on interpersonal relationships, the sub-factors of workplace spirituality (vocational consciousness, inner consciousness, and empathy consciousness) had a positive effect on interpersonal relationships. On the other hand, community consciousness and transcendence consciousness, which are sub-factors of workplace spirituality, do not appear to have a significant effect on interpersonal relationships. Second, regarding the effects of social support of art psychotherapists on interpersonal relations, the sub-factors of social support, such as evaluative support and material support, had a positive effect on interpersonal relationships. This means that higher vocational consciousness, inner consciousness, empathy consciousness, evaluative support, and material support factors of an artistic psychotherapist are conducive to better interpersonal relationships. • The purpose of this study is to examine the moderating effect of social capital in regards to the influence that family income and job status have on the level of satisfaction with family relationships among married immigrant women. We conducted the second analysis of "2009 National Survey of Multicultural Family State" and used moderated regression analyses. Controlled variables included age, education level, offspring status, and Korean proficiency, while independent factors included family income and job status. Moderating variables of social capital included trust, participation, and network. The results showed that all the demographic variables, as well as family income and job status, had significant influences on married immigrant women's satisfaction with family relationships. In particular, when factors of social capital interacted with family income and job status, the study showed that it had a different influence on the satisfaction with family relationships. Moreover, the moderating effects have been shown to be more certified through its comparison of the increasing and decreasing trends of social capital. This research has been shown to be significant, based upon the findings on moderating effects of social capital in respect to married immigrant women's level of satisfaction with family relations. Practical implications of our results in the context of social welfare were discussed.

  • Objective: This study examined the relationships among social support in the workplace, social support outside the workplace, child care teachers' psychological burnout, and teacher-child interactions. Methods: The subjects of this study were 262 child care teachers and they responded to questionnaires on research variables. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: First, social support outside the workplace had a direct effect on teacher-child interactions; that is, child care teachers, who perceived that they received a high level of social support outside the workplace, had high-quality interactions with children. Second, social support in the workplace had an indirect effect on teacher-child interactions through child care teachers' psychological burnout. In other words, child care teachers, who perceived that they received a high level of social support in the workplace, experienced less psychological burnout, which led to high-quality interactions with children. Conclusion/Implications: This study confirmed that the paths in which social support in the workplace and social support outside the workplace influence teacher-child interactions were different. Although the pathways were different, the results of this study emphasize that both types of social support are important factors that promote teacher-child interactions.

  • Previous research has provided inconsistent findings as to whether socially (in)competent individuals benefit from social networking sites (SNSs) use. Based on the rich-get-richer model, some studies have shown that socially competent individuals expand their existing networks even further via SNSs use. Based on the poor-get-richer model, other studies have shown that those with poor social skills can achieve beneficiary outcomes from SNSs use by overcoming their deficient social resources of offline environments. The present study is devised to add evidence regarding how and why social skills are related to SNSs use. To this end, we tested the relationships between social competence and three types of Facebook communication activities: interaction, self-presentation, and passive observation. Further, drawing on the social cognitive theory, the mediating role of outcome expectancy in the relationship between social competence and Facebook communication activities was examined. Using an online survey in South Korea (N = 708), it was found that individuals with higher social competence were more likely than those with lower social competence to engage in interaction, self-presentation, passive observation on Facebook. Moreover, these relationships were mediated by outcome expectancy that the desired social outcomes could be achieved as a result of Facebook use.

  • Relationships between peer acceptance, peer victimization, and self-esteem in adolescents were examined in a sample of 392 eighth grade students(189 boys and 203 girls). Data were collected using questionnaires regarding peer acceptance(social preference and social status), peer victimization, and self-esteem of adolescents. High social preference was positively related to self-esteem. Social preference varied as a function of social status both in boys and in girls. Popular boys had higher self-esteem than neglected and rejected boys; popular girls had higher self-esteem than neglected girls, who had higher self-esteem than rejected girls. The more boys and girls were victimized by peers, the lower their self-esteem. The higher their social preference, the less they were victimized. Rejected boys and girls experienced peer victimization much more than either popular or neglected boys and girls.
