This paper presents a variable gain amplifier (VGA) for an analog front-end (AFE) of ultrasound medical imaging. This VGA has a closed-loop topology and shows a 37-dB-linear characteristic with a single-stage amplifier. It consists of an op-amp, a non-binary-weighted capacitor array, and a gain-control block. This non-binary-weighted capacitor array reduces the required number of capacitors and the complexity of the gain-control block. The VGA has been fabricated in a 0.35-mm CMOS process. This work gives the largest gain range of 37 dB per stage, the largest P1 dB of 9.5 dBm at the 3.3-V among the recent VGA circuits available in the literature. The voltage gain is controlled in the range of [-10, 27] dB in a linear-in-dB scale with 16 steps by a 4-bit digital code. The VGA has a bandpass characteristic with a passband of [20 kHz, 8 MHz].

This work describes a 3 V 12b 100 MS/s CMOS digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for high-speed communication system applications. The proposed DAC is composed of a unit current-cell matrix for 8 MSBs and a binary-weighted array for 4 LSBs, considering linearity, power consumption, chip area, and glitch energy. The low-glitch switch driving circuit is employed to improve the linearity and the dynamic performance. Current sources of the DAC are laid out separately from the current-cell switch matrix core. The prototype DAC is implemented in a 0.35 urn n-well single-poly quad-metal CMOS technology. The measured DNL and INL of the prototype DAC are within $\pm$0.75 LSB and $\pm$1.73 LSB, respectively, and the spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) is 64 dB at 100 MS/s with a 10 MHz input sinewave. The DAC dissipates 91 mW at 3 V and occupies the active die area of 2.2 mm ${\times}$ 2.0 mm.

An active phased array antennas can not only electrically steer the beam by controlling the weighting of the excitation signal, but can also form a pattern null in the direction of the interference source. The weight of the excitation signal to steer the main beam can be easily calculated based on the position of the radiating element. In addition, the weight of the excited signal for pattern null formation can also be calculated by setting the required radiation pattern and using WLSM(Weighted Least Squares Method). However, in a general wireless communication network environment, the location of the interference source is unknown. Therefore, an adaptive pattern null synthesis is needed. In this paper, it was confirmed that pattern null synthesis according to the required radiation characteristic was possible. And based on this, adaptive pattern null synthesis into the direction of an interference source was studied using a binary search algorithm based on observation area. As a result of conducting a simulation based on the presented technique, it was confirmed that adaptive pattern null forming into the direction of an interference is possible in efficient way.

An optimized 4-stage 12-bit pipelined CMOS analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architecture is proposed to obtain high linearity and high yield. The ADC based on a multiplying digital-to-analog converter (MDAC) selectively employs a binary-weighted-capacitor (BWC) array in the front-end stage and a unit-capacitor (UC) array in the back-end stages to improve integral nonlinearity (INL) and differential nonlinearity (DNL) simultaneously whil maintaining high yield. A digital-domain nonlinear error calibration technique is applied in the first stage of the ADC to improve its accuracy to 12-bit level. The largest DNL error in the mid-point code of the ADC is reduced by avoiding a code-error symmetry observed in a conventional digitally calibrated ADC is reduced by avoiding a code-error symmetry observed in a conventional digitally calibrated ADC is simulated to prove the effectiveness of the proposed ADC architecture.

A simulation study of a 10-bit two-stage DAC was done by using a conventional current switch cell. The DAC adopts the segmented architecture in order to reduce the circuit complexity and the die area. The 10-bit CMOS DAC was designed in 2 blocks, a unary cell matrix for 6 MSBs and a binary weighted array for 4 LSBs, for fabrication in a 0.35-${\mu}m$ CMOS process. To cancel the accumulation of errors in each current cell, a symmetrical switching sequence is applied in the unary cell matrix for 6 MSBs. To ensure high-speed operation, a decoding circuit with one stage latch and a cascode current source were developed. Simulations show that the maximum power consumption of the 10-bit DAC is 74 mW with a sampling frequency of 100 MHz.
In this paper, an A/D converter is implemented to obtain 8bit resolution at a conversion rate of 10Msample/s. This architecture is proposed using the 2-step architecture for high speed conversion rate. It is consisted of sample/hold circuit, low power comparator, voltage reference circuit and DAC of binary weighted capacitor array. Proposed A/D converter is designed using 0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. The SNR is 45.3dB at a sampling rate of 10MHz with 1.95MHz sine input signal. When an 8bit 10Msample/s A/D converter is simulated, the Differential Nonlinearity / Integral Nonlinearity (DNL/ INL) error are ${\pm}$1 / ${\pm}$2 LSB, respectively. The power consumption is 13㎽ at single +2.5V supply voltage.
In this work, a A/D converter is implemented to obtain 8bit resolution at a conversion rate of 10MS/s for video applications. This architecture is proposed using the Pipelined architecture for high speed conversion rate and the Successive - Approximation architecture for low power consumption, and consists of two identical stages that consist of sample/hold circuit, low power comparator, voltage reference circuit and MDAC of binary weighted capacitor array. Proposed A/D converter is designed using 0.25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS technology The SNR is 80㏈ at a sampling rate of 10MHz with 1.95MHz sine input signal. When an 8bit 10MS/s A/D converter is simulated, the Differential Nonlinearity / Integral Nonlinearity (DNL/ INL) error are $\pm$0.5 / $\pm$2 LSB, respectively. The power consumption is 13㎽ at 10MS/s.

The e(lect of capacitance error on the A/D conversion accuracy in the A/D converter using binary-weighted capacitor array was scruntized. Besides the Monte-Carlo method considering the inter-capacitance ratios as random variables, " correlation approach" con-sidering the correlation coefficient between capacitances is proposed in this paper. Bt was observed by the measurement of capacitances of monolithic MO5 capacitors that the correla-tion coefficient between capacitors decreases as the capacitor size incrrases. It was also verified that the parallel connection of unit capacitors and the common centroid layout scheme signi(icantly increase the inter-capacitance correlation coefficients.
