  • Although the intrinsic characteristics of DNA molecules and carbon nanotubes (CNT) are well known, fabrication methods and physical characteristics of CNT-embedded DNA thin films are rarely investigated. We report the construction and characterization of carboxyl (-COOH) group-modified multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT-COOH)-embedded DNA and cetyltrimethyl-ammonium chloride-modified DNA (DNA-CTMA) composite thin films. Here, we examine the structural, compositional, chemical, spectroscopic, and electrical characteristics of DNA and DNA-CTMA thin films consisting of various concentrations of MWCNT-COOH. The MWCNT-COOH-embedded DNA and DNA-CTMA composite thin films may offer a platform for developing novel optoelectronics, energy harvesting, and sensing applications in physical, chemical, and biological sciences.

  • The Cu/Cu2O/CuO photoelectrode has been successfully fabricated by Rapid Thermal Annealing technique. The structural characterization of fabricated photoelectrode was performed using X-Ray diffraction, while elemental composition of the prepared material has been checked with X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The synthesis parameters are optimized on the basis of photoelectrochemical performance. The best photoelectrochemical performance has been observed for the Cu/Cu2O/CuO photoelectrode fabricated at 550 ℃ oxidation temperature and oxidation time of 50 seconds with highest photocurrent density of -3 mA/㎠ at -0.13 V vs. RHE.

  • This study proposes a route for surface modification for p-type cobalt oxide-based gas sensors. We deposit a thin layer of Ni on the Co oxide film by sputtering process and annealed at $350^{\circ}C$ for 15 min in air, which changes a typical sputtered film surface into one interlaced with a high density of hemispherical nanoparticles. Our in-depth materials characterization using transmission electron microscopy discloses that the microstructure evolution is the result of an extensive inter-diffusion of Co and Ni, and that the nanoparticles are nickel oxide dissolving some Co. Sensor performance measurement unfolds that the surface modification results in a significant sensitivity enhancement, nearly 200% increase for toluene (at $250^{\circ}C$) and CO (at $200^{\circ}C$) gases in comparison with the undoped samples.

  • We present the fabrication and characterization of transparent carbon nanotube film (CNF) piezoresistors. CNFs were fabricated by vacuum filtration methods with 65?92% transmittance and patterned on Au-deposited silicon wafer by photolithography and dry etching. The patterned CNFs were transferred onto poly-dimethysiloxane (PDMS) using the weak adhesion property between the silicon wafer and the Au layer. The transferred CNFs were confirmed to be piezoresistors using the equation of concentrated-force-derived resistance change. The gauge factor of the CNFs was measured to range from 10 to 20 as the resistance of the CNFs increased with applied pressure. In polymer microelectromechanical systems, CNF piezoresistors are the promising materials because of their high sensitivity and low-temperature process.

  • TE$_{01\;{\delta}}$ mode Cavity Resonators with a low loss dielectric rod and YBa$_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO) endplates were prepared and their microwave properties were studied at temperatures above 30 K. Both sapphire and rutile were used as the dielectrics. The TE$_{01\;{\delta}}$ mode Q$_0$ of the resonator, designed to work as a tunable resonator with variations in the gap distance (s) between the dielectric rod and the top YBCO, was more than 1000000 at s = 0 mm and at 30 K and .the resonant frequency of 19.56GHz when a sapphire rod was used for the dielectric. The TE$_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ mode resonant frequency (f$_0$) appeared to decrease as the temperature is raised. Meanwhile, the temperature dependence of the TE$_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ mode f$_0$ of the rutile-loaded resonator appeared different with f$_0$ increasing according to the temperature and Q$_0$ more than 300000 at 30 K and f$_0$ = 8.56 CHz. Comparisons were made between the microwave properties of the sapphire-loaded and the rutile-loaded resonators. Also, applications of the TE$_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ mode cavity resonator for a tunable resonator with a very high Q$_0$ as · well as a characterization tool for surface resistance measurements of HTS films are described.

  • We present nondestructive characterization for remanent life of advanced ferritic steels, next-gen energy facility materials by reversible permeability. The reversible permeability is based on the theory that the value of reversible permeability is the same differential of the hysteresis loop. The measurement principle is based on the foundation of harmonics voltage induced in a sensing coil using a lock-in amplifier tuned to the frequency of the exciting one. The peak interval of reversible permeability(PIRP), Vickers hardness, and tensile strength(TS) of the aged samples decreased with aging time. We could estimate the remanent life of advanced ferritic steel by using the relationship between the peak interval of reversible permeability and Larson-Miller parameter(LMP), non-destructively.

  • Recently, metal oxide films such as MgO or ZrO$_2$ have been studied as buffer layers to fabricate the superconductor with preferred orientation and as diffusion barriers to prevent the reaction between superconductor and metal substrate. In this research, we focused fabrication and characterization of MgO and ZrO$_2$ films on textured metal substrates. We fabricated MgO and ZrO$_2$ films on the Ni metal sheets by sol-gel dipping method. The microstrcures of the films were investigated by SEM and AES analyses. The films were coated with different cycles and dryed at 400$^{\circ}$C and 500$^{\circ}$C . The final films were heat-treated at 700$^{\circ}$C, 800$^{\circ}$C, and 1000$^{\circ}$C, in air atmosphere. We investigated the alignment of MgO and ZrO$_2$ films on Ni metal sheets by XRD and pole figure. The grain growth of metal oxide films was improved by the increase of the drying temperature and annealing temperature. The grain growth was increased with the annealing temperature. The alignment of metal oxide films depended on the thickness.

  • Purpose: The physicochemical properties of a xenograft are very important because they strongly influence the bone regeneration capabilities of the graft material. Even though porcine xenografts have many advantages, only a few porcine xenografts are commercially available, and most of their physicochemical characteristics have yet to be reported. Thus, in this work we aimed to investigate the physicochemical characteristics of a porcine bone grafting material and compare them with those of 2 commercially available bovine xenografts to assess the potential of xenogenic porcine bone graft materials for dental applications. Methods: We used various characterization techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy, the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller adsorption method, atomic force microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and others, to compare the physicochemical properties of xenografts of different origins. Results: The porcine bone grafting material had relatively high porosity (78.4%) and a large average specific surface area (SSA; $69.9m^2/g$), with high surface roughness (10-point average roughness, $4.47{\mu}m$) and sub-100-nm hydroxyapatite crystals on the surface. Moreover, this material presented a significant fraction of sub-100-nm pores, with negligible amounts of residual organic substances. Apart from some minor differences, the overall characteristics of the porcine bone grafting material were very similar to those of one of the bovine bone grafting material. However, many of these morphostructural properties were significantly different from the other bovine bone grafting material, which exhibited relatively smooth surface morphology with a porosity of 62.0% and an average SSA of $0.5m^2/g$. Conclusions: Considering that both bovine bone grafting materials have been successfully used in oral surgery applications in the last few decades, this work shows that the porcinederived grafting material possesses most of the key physiochemical characteristics required for its application as a highly efficient xenograft material for bone replacement.

  • Flower-like and plate-like CuO nanopowder has been successfully synthesized using a facile microwave-assisted synthetic route. The morphology and size of the final products strongly depended on microwave power. The phase, structures and morphologies of the as-prepared products were investigated in detail by BET surface area analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition, the chemical oxygen demand of polluted lake water was employed for characterization of these new photocatalysts. The results showed correlations between the morphology of CuO micro-crystals and their catalytic properties.
