  • Suspension insulator have made use of porcelain insulator mainly, but polymer insulator is using recently. Polymer suspension insulator have advantage that it is light than porcelain insulator. The ageing performance is excellent and it is possible for mass production. There is high possibility of mountain fire because a lot of potential inflammables such as fallen leaves are stacked on the ground Therefore surface aging of polymer insulator most of the overhead transmission lines in Korea are operated on the mountain need analysis of transmission line into forest fire. surface aging property is analyzed by SEM, EDX, XPS, FTIR, DSC in this paper.

  • Eventhough the productivity has been improved remarkably by introducing automatic facilities, the 100% inspection is necessary because the possibility to produce large amount of defective goods is also increased. Since it is extremely unreasonable that workers inspect very large amount of products as 100% inspection, there has been many researches for the automatic inspection system. In this thesis, we develop an automatic detection system of suspension insulator's minutes cracks System The automatic detection system of suspension insulator's minute cracks: To detect the minute cracks of suspension insulators, images of the insulator are acquired with a progressive scan camera, rotating a suspension insulator on a turning table. And after the shadow and noises are eliminated by preprocessing techniques, we detect minute cracks using the features of them.

  • In this study mechanical for stress according to Pin type of high voltage suspension type insulator. R-shaped metal pin. and a tapered metal pin having a tensile pin having a tensile strength of more than the breaking strength of insulating body are provided in porcelain insulating bodies, and a suspension insulator according to the present invention, a test for determining the tensile strength of the insulating body was made and the results. These insulators are designed and produced by using the computer analysis of mechanical and electrical stresses together with the technical know-how accumulated from long year of study into every respect of insulators.

  • The distribution facilities, such as suspension insulator, line post insulator, lightning arrester, COS, used for long periods in the industrial pollution area were investigated. The electrical test and the material analyses were performed on the polluted and non-polluted facilities. The low frequency dry flashover voltage of polluted suspension was decreased about 8% in comparison with non-polluted one. The polluted materials turned out with the iron which came from the foundries. The polluted materials turned out with the iron which came from the foundries. This conductive materials decreased the leakage distance, resulting in reducing of electrical properties.

  • The main objective of this paper is to design and mechanical strength analysis of UHV(Ultra High Voltage) suspension insulator. One of the important properties required for suspension insulators is mechanical strength under tensile load. The cement and porcelain part are express according to change of pin head type an aspect mechanical stress. These insulators are designed and produced by using the computer analysis of mechanical, electrical and electrical stresses together with the technical know-how accumulated from long years of study into every respect of insulators.

  • The suspension insulators are subjected to harsh environment in service for a long time. Long term reliability of the insulators is required for both mechanical and electrical performances. We studied an analysing method to find out a deformation of brittle porcelain with a thermal expansion of simulation analysis and experimental results show that cement volume growths affect severely to b mechanical failure ageing.

  • Porcelain suspension insulators have teen used for a long time in distribution line. However, Puncture breakdowns in porcelain insulators caused by weaking cement between metal fitting nad porcelain material. There is little puncture breakdown in Epoxy casting insulator. This paper presents electrical test results for the development of suspension insulator used Cycloaliphatic Epoxy resin.   • This paper presents the results of lifetime evaluation for porcelain suspension insulator using tensile test. The specimens were collected from the branch offices of the KEPCO. The tensile tests were performed with the instron which had the speed of 1mm per minites. The factors of quality were calculated with the maximum tensile strength measured from each specimens. With the quality factors, a factor of lifetime was determined. The lifetime of porcelain suspension insulator as a factor of fabricated years was evaluated.

  • The suspension arrangement of insulators provides flexibility and assists in power transmission in transmission lines. The performance of the insulator string is strongly influenced by the environmental conditions to which it is exposed, its shape and the inherent material properties of suspension-type insulators. The suspension-type insulators are mostly made from glass, porcelain and ceramic material due to their high resistivity. Irregularity in charge distribution throughout the porcelain insulator may lead to accelerated aging and electrical breakdown. A very high and steep lightning impulse voltage may also cause breakdown of suspension-type insulators. We investigated various material characteristics such as alumina addition, surface morphology, x-ray diffraction pattern and relative density of suspension porcelain insulators manufactured in 1989 (36,000 lbs.), 1995 (36,000 lbs.) and 2001 (36,000 lbs.) by the KRI Company for use in 154 kV high power transmission lines. We compared the material characteristics of these porcelain insulators with that of the top-of-the-line porcelain insulators (36,000 lbs.) manufactured by the NGK Company in 2000. These suspension-type porcelain insulators were exposed to arc and flashover tests to examine their electrical and mechanical strength. It was noted that alumina addition (17 wt.%) for K-2001 was one of the major contributors to the enhancement of the performance of the porcelain insulators and to their ability to withstand very high current generation during the arc test. The porcelain insulators manufactured during 2001 also showed the highest relative density of 95.8% as compared to the other insulators manufactured in 1989 and 1995 respectively 94.2% and 91.5%. We also discuss reports of various failure modes of suspension-type porcelain insulators.

  • The dry and wet flashover characteristics on the contaminated distribution facilities was investigated. The test were carried out on the suspension insulator, line post insulator, lightning arrester, cut off switch, etc. In the dry state, the flashover voltages of facilities contaminated with B, C, D classes are similar to the non-contaminated ones. However, in the wet state, the flashover voltages of facilities contaminated with B, C, D classes are decreased. The flashover voltages of some few facilities show under the standard value. This results indicate that the high humidity may cause the flashover on distribution facilities.
