  • The STEAM education and the computer science education have become increasingly important with the advert of science technology that enhances the national competitiveness. The purpose of the research is to develop the STEAM education program focused on programming education. I introduced a programming activity utilizing a sensor that can trigger students' interest with relation to other school subject factors. I applied the education program to grade 4-5 students, then compared and analyzed effects of the education program by conducting pretest and posttest regarding the creativity, reasoning skills, and the affective domain in science learning. Overall, the analysis reveals that the STEAM education program developed in this study improved fluency, originality and creativity index of the students' creativity, reasoning skills and scientific attitudes.

  • This study analyzes students' motivation for learning when applying SW-STEAM education using Flipped Learning. As a main content of the study, we developed a program that combines SW education with existing subjects and utilized flipped learning as a method. Elementary school students were given an education program. The data were collected through pre and post-test of learning motivation. As a result of analysis, the SW-STEAM program based on flipped learning has improved attention, relevance and confidence. We expect that the results of the SW-STEAM education program developed in this study and the learning motivation analysis will help in the direction of the SW-STEAM education and be useful as a basic resources for settling in class.

  • In STEAM education, contents that has been extracted from a variety of areas, so it can work closely and systematically. Therefore STEAM education requires systems thinking that can be grasped effectively these different disciplines. The purposes of this study are to develop a STEAM program based on systems thinking, and apply the program to the secondary science gifted student in order to investigate the educational effect. A model of the Program developed from previous research and theoretical contents of systems thinking and STEAM. A draft of the STEAM program was developed on the theme of "rocket". A total of 113 students was participated in this study. 100 seventh and 13 eighth graders were enrolled at seigy. A single group pre-post test paired t-test was conducted on them in systems thinking skills. Result of applying the program to the students as follows. The systems thinking ability was improved after the application of the program. 'Mental Model', 'Personal Skill', 'Team Learning', and 'System Analysis', 'Shared Vision' emerged for both improved significantly. In conclusion, the STEAM program based on system thinking improves students' systems thinking skills. This program of results can be helpful in cultivate human resources with the problem solving ability based on system thinking and STEAM literacy by used in public education curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a STEAM-based science education program for children and to verify its effectiveness. An S-STEAM-based science education program for young children was developed through careful analysis of prior research on science education for young children and S-STEAM. The participants were 29 four-year-old children from daycare centers located in Seoul (an experimental group of 14 and comparative group of 15). The S-STEAM program was applied to the experimental group, while the control group went through a general science education course provided by the government. TTCT of Creative Thinking (TTCT: Figures A and B) was used as a research tool, and a multiple intelligence test tool was applied to teachers of the groups. Afterwards, analysis of covariance was implemented to find the S-STEAM program's effects. First, the results showed positive effects on overall creativity, as well as in fluency, originality, abstractness, elaboration, and openness components of creativity. Second, the results showed positive effects on overall multiple intelligences and its components of linguistic, musical, spatial, logical/mathematical, physical exercise, interpersonal, and naturalist intelligence.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze Korea STEAM Programs in the perspective of Engineering Design. A pilot study of analyzing 41 STEAM programs was conducted by using Guzey et al. (2014)'s STEM program analysis framework. Based on the pilot study result, we suggested specific criteria to analyze Korea STEAM program and developed an analysis framework by considering characteristics of Korea STEAM program we found. The analysis framework suggested by this study has 5 more criteria compared to the Guzey et al. (2014)'s framework. By using the suggested framework, we analyzed another 76 STEAM programs developed by the grant of Korea foundation for the Admin of Science & Creativity (KOFAC) in 2016. The analysis results show that only 28.5% of total 76 Korea STEAM programs are focused on Engineering Design and the programs categorized as 'Complete Engineering Design Lesson' were only 5.4%. More than half of the programs (62.3%) are focused on only science contents with crafting and/or concept drawing activities.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop educational programs of STEAM-based project under the theme of "Photography of Earth" for the circle activities of the creative experiential activity, to be applied this program to them and to identify technology subject self-efficacy and change in attitude toward engineering. In order to achieve the research objectives, this program was applied to middle school student in Cheonan, STEAM-based circle during 9 class instruction. The results of this study are as follows. First, the STEAM program contents for circle activities were selected through utilizing a five-stage design model(preparation, design, development, implementation and evaluation) and analyzing the curriculum. After that we have developed a teaching plan, STEAM-Story, student activity sheets from the viewpoint of cultural fusion and have applied the circle activities of the creative experiential Activity during 4 months. Second, The result of the test(pre- and post-test) about STEAM program that has been developed were different about technology subject self-efficacy and attitude toward engineering. Therefore, we have verified that the effect of the STEAM-based project under the theme of "Photography of Earth" for the circle activities on the attitudes toward engineering and self-efficacy in middle school is effective.

  • Based on the constructivist learning environments model and the learner-centered psychological principles, STEAM education program with the theme of eliminating smog was developed. Through the program, senior elementary school students will learn and apply the convergence knowledge of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics such as the human body's respiratory system (S), immune system (S), big data (M, T), computer programming(M), and aduino sensor utilization (E) directly to solve the problem. After expert validity testing, we found that developed program meet the standards of STEAM education program development and can develop creative thinking skills to find and solve problems in students' daily lives. In addition, this study is meaningful in providing a reference example for the development of STEAM education programs that enhance convergence knowledge in the future.
