The study aims to figure out how to improve existing examination tools to distinguish mathematically gifted children and to clarify procedures and criteria for selecting candidates. Toward this end, it examined correlations between grades of gifted children selected through evaluation by pen-and-pencil tests and their creative problem-solving capability and performance assessment, and analyzed learning activities of the gifted children. According to the analysis, results of pen-and-pencil tests turned out to have low correlations with their creative problem-solving capability and performance assessment, but it was found that their creative problem-solving capability has high correlations with results of performance assessment. The analysis also found that there were some students who participated in a program for gifted children with high marks but had difficulties in adapting themselves to it. It found that there were children who joined the program with low marks but emerged as successive performers later on. In this regard, the existing examination tools to tell the gifted students apart need to be used to the fullest extent, and other diversified tools to evaluate mathematical capabilities that include mathematical creativity need to be further studied and developed. Qualitative studies on affective development of the gifted students and their creative problem-solving processes need to be conducted.

This research is to explore mathematics gifted education which considered individual difference of gifted students in elementary school-level. The purpose of this study is to develop a differentiated instruction model and mathematical materials for gifted students that consider students' individual difference. We also investigate effectiveness of differentiated instruction through change of self-directed learning ability and studying satisfaction of gifted students. The results of this study will provide basic information on the after research related with development and application of mathematics gifted education program and differentiated instruction.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze teaching-learning program which can be applied to mathematically gifted students in primary school, Our program is based on constructivist views on teaching and learning of mathematics. Mainly, we study the algorithmic thinking of mathematically gifted students in primary school in connection with the network problems; Eulerian graph problem, the minimum connector problem, and the shortest path problem, The above 3-subjects are not familiar with primary school mathematics, so that we adapt teaching-learning model based on the social constructivism. To achieve the purpose of this study, seventeen students in primary school participated in the study, and video type(observation) and student's mathematical note were used for collecting data while the students studied. The results of our study were summarized as follows: First, network problems based on teaching-learning model of constructivist views help students learn the algorithmic thinking. Second, the teaching-learning model based on constructivist views gives an opportunity of various mathematical thinking experience. Finally, the teaching-learning model based on constructivist views needs more the ability of teacher's research and the time of teaching for students than an ordinary teaching-learning model.
In this paper we intended to present the case of mentorship program for the gifted in elementary mathematics education, which is related with Waldorf education. We installed the program to four six-grade students during six months. We focused on cultivating integrated perspective, aesthetic perspective and substantial skills. For the aim we dealt with the item, construction based on the aesthetic experiences. Finally we presented three main ideas, construction of regular polygons and flowers, construction of islamic design, and farmland cleanup with construction. We also contained the students' project in this paper.
The purpose of study was to develop distance education programs that combine the characteristics of the programs for the math gifted students. To this end, the first is to establish the standards for the development of distance programs for the math gifted students. The second is to develop the distance education programs for the elementary school math gifted students according to the program procedure models for distance education. The third is to apply the programs developed to actual distance education field and analyze the results to verify the validity of the programs. This program can increase high-level mathematical thinking power even though it is the distance education, not the face-to-face education. Second, this program make contributions to active mathematical communication through newsgroup or reflective journals. Third, the use of Diffy Game facilitates the selection of in-depth contents, which will in turn enable the development of intensive programs.
The purpose of this study was to provide and analyze the fundamental data on leadership skills and to analyze leadership skills among giftd elementary students according to grade, subject and gender. The main research questions in order to achieve the purpose of research are as follow. First, are there any differences of gifted elementary students' leadership skills in gifted groups? Second, do leadership program have an effect on improvement of gifted elementary students' leadership skills? The subjects for this study were 488 gifted elementary in 4th-6th grade in Busan. The students in the experiential group went thought 16 session do leadership program. After that, they had pre-tests and post-tests. the devices used to verify the effectiveness of the program were leadership skill scales. For this research analysis, MANOVA was used to investigate the first research questions and MANCOVA was used to investigate the second research question. Results from this study are as follows. Firstly, students in higher grades received fewer leadership skills points. This fact suggests that the leadership programs from the fourth grade should be implemented in 5th and 6th grade gifted education as well. Secondly, in the analysis of the results from gifted mathematics and gifted science, little significant statistical difference was shown. Thirdly, the analysis of leadership skills according to gender showed statistical significance. Finally, the study showed that the leadership education program had a positive effect. So the gifted 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students improve their leadership skills points by the end of the 16 week programs. Consequently, it is suggested that leadership education program on gifted elementary education was significant to improvement of leadership skills.
Currently Korea encourages gifted highschoolers and junior high schoolers to participate in international achievement contests such as International Olympiads. Participants for these contests are selected nationwide among gifted students in areas of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and others. They go through a series of screening tests and programs. One of the screening processes is Korean Olympiad School, which provides study programs each summer for student-candidates prior to following year's International Olympiads. Approximately 40 students of high schools and junior high schools, in each subject of study, gather at Korean Olympiad Summer School, and they go through intensive study programs during short period of time. Out of 40 candidates, less than 20 students are finally selected to participate in International Olympiads. In this study, a psycho-educational program called "Situatin Coping Training Program" was developed to enhance ahievement motivation for these student-candidates. This study was to see if this tranining program actually improved their cognitive, emotive motivation factors, and to see how this training program affected their achievement level. Training was administered for five days. This training program was found effective for participants to increase self-efficacy, internal locus of control, and anxiety coping. These cognitive and emotive motivation factors, other than intelligence, were found to have positive relationship with achievement level, of which self-efficacy and attribution style of students were found as two best predictors of achievement. This training program was perceived as necessary by participants, and helpful for recovering self-confidence and self-control as well as coping pressure. Suggestions were made that this kind of training program be administered as regular curriculum in preparative study programs such as Korean Olympiads, since cognitive, emotive motivation factors are related with achievement, and furthermore, be utilized in all gifted education programs in Korea. in Korea.
Problem posing is used to develop the creativity program and adaption for the gifted, and to screen the gifted students in the selection process. However existing creativity assessment factors(fluence, flexibility, originality) has been recognized to have it's limitation to assess the mathematical creativity. To improve the creativity assessment, we propose new set of assessment factors for mathematical creativity test through problem posing. For this study, we let 19 mathematically gifted students to pose two good mathematical problems for a limited time after solving a certain problem so called a reference problem. A week late, we let the subjects, pre-service teachers, and experts to evaluate the problems posed by the subjects, and leave the reasons for evaluating highest mark and lowest mark. With this date, we propose fluence, flexibility, originality, anti-similarity, complexity, elaboration as the set of mathematics creativity assessment factors.
This study had suggested the direction and implications of mathematics education for the gifted student by looking into domestic research trends in relation with mathematics education for the talented children from 2000 to 2010. 168 theses were analyzed by researching theses about mathematics education for the talented children and the total 10 kinds of special journals that are registered or to be registered at National Research Foundation of Korea in order to find a research trend about mathematics education for the talented children. As a result of analyzing theses of each year, the number of theses on mathematics education for the talented children has been increasing largely since2004 and it is steadily being conducted until now. As a result of analyzing theses for each research theme, frequency was shown in order of development research about educational course program for mathematics education for the talented children and research on characteristics of the talented children. For analysis result of research target, research targeting elementary school students has taken great importance. For the aspect of research methods, research about development of program and research tool was used in theses and qualitative research method was mainly used in journals and therefore a direction of mathematics education for the talented children was discussed according to this.
The purpose of this study is to provide useful information for improving interaction between teacher and student by analysing gifted class in mathematics with the Flanders Category System. Research questions are as follow. In gifted class in mathematics, How is the result of analysis regarding interactions between the teacher and students, according to 1) Flanders' Coding system? 2) Flanders' language pattern? 3) Flanders' Index system? For this, 3 gifted classes in mathematics were recorded by video camera and analyzed by Advanced Flanders(AF) analysis program version 3.54. Results are as follow. 1) Code Category Analysis mostly consists of lecture, voluntary speaking and chaos, silence work. 2) Most class patterns are not in accordance with effective class pattern models. So teacher needs to accept student's opinion actively and give appropriate feedback. 3) In Indices Results, revised I/d ratio, teacher's question ratio, student's speaking ratio, Student question and wide answer ratio are higher than analysis standard, indirect ratio is lower than analysis standard.
