The purpose of this study is to determine the level of key competencies and teacher efficacy of pre-service industrial teachers as related to their personal backgrounds, and to analyze the correlation between personal variables, key competencies and teaching efficacy. This will be provided as basic resources for pre-service teacher training program to improve the understanding of key competencies and teaching efficacy of pre-service industrial teachers. The results of this study are as follows. First, the teacher efficacy of pre-service industrial teachers was found to be above average (M=3.0), and teaching efficacy (M=3.41) was found to be a bit higher than personal teacher efficacy (M=3.28). Upon analyzing the significant differences of teacher efficacy resulting from background variables, it was found that gender and major had no difference while the effect of school year on teaching efficacy of teacher efficacy showed statistically significant differences. Second, the lower regions of key competencies of pre-service industrial teachers all were above the average 3.0. Gender and school year were exhibited no significant difference, and only the global competence of key competencies showed significant difference. Third, it was found that the gender and major of pre-service industrial teachers had no correlation with teacher efficacy and key competencies. On the other hand, school year variable showed significant positive correlation with teacher efficacy (r=.274) and key competencies (r=.168). Lastly, it was found that key competencies and teacher efficacy had positive correlation of r=.475.

This article describes the status of science teacher education in Taiwan. The pre-service and in-service science teacher training system, institutes, curricula, programs, and evaluation on the institutes were briefly introduced. The differences before and after the 1996 reform of science teacher training system were compared. Finally, the attempts and efforts that have been done through the channels of research to promote science teachers' professional development were addressed. These efforts include the Case studies of exemplary science teachers' teaching performances, the development of licensure instruments for the certification of science teachers, the use of computers and distance education for supervising student teachers, the exploration of promoting science teachers' understanding about the nature of science, the exploration of promoting science teachers' pedagogical content knowledge, the exploration of promoting science teachers' ability of increasing effective student-teacher and student-student interactions, and the exploration of effective teaching strategies.
This study investigates the pre-service teacher trainees' reactions to and evaluations about the earth science teaching method that utilizes songs. The subjects of the study were 81 university students in teacher training institutes for primary schools and secondary schools. The researcher used songs which the subjects judged to be reflecting some of the natural phenomena related to the earth science. The teacher trainees were taught some of the earth science concepts with the help of the selected songs. Discussions about the possibilities of the songs as an ai d to science teaching were also encouraged. The teacher trainees demonstrated positive reactions to the teaching method, and expressed their intention to use songs in their future teaching. The method also inspired the trainees to be inquisitive in their everyday life and seek other effective teaching methods.
This study was carried out to evaluate the job implementation of in-service training on career education & guidance teacher's career education in the National Education Training Institute. To accomplish this purpose, pre-survey & pre-survey, sucess case method, and return on expectation were investigated after 3 months completing in-service teacher training. The populations of this study were conducted for 136 career education & guidance teachers who completed in-service teacher training at the National Education Training Institute in July, 2018, and it was conducted by survey research and qualitative content analysis of job implementation. Among the 136 trainees who completed the training, 75 responded to the job implementation survey and 4 people participated in the successful case technique. As a result, the average value of job implementation was 4.17 out of 5 points, which was relatively high. The success case technique was analyzed by interviewing success cases and failure cases. Behavior change according to job implementation was the biggest role of Planner, followed by role of Instructor, role of Career educator, role of Learner. In addition, the case analysis provided the opinions of the interviewers in terms of motivation, competence, and environment for job implementation. In terms of the return on expectation, 85.3% of the respondents were positive, and the net promoter score was .85, indicating that the participants were satisfied with their willingness to participate in the training again. Based on the results of this study, we suggest that it will be required to study about new training methods and extra factor analysis.
The perception of pre-service teachers who participated as liaison teachers in the gifted education organization's different operating styles and the differences in the thoughts of these teachers were analyzed in this study. The inquiry survey was performed for 74 liaison teachers who had participated in the observational activities in the university annexed science gifted education center and the dormitory based gifted students education center supported by education of administration in Chungbuk Province. The individual in-depth interview was performed with 7 teachers based on the analyzed data. The perception of pre-service teachers who participated in as liaison teachers in the university annexed science gifted education center and the dormitory based gifted students education center was different from important element of the gifted and qualification of the teacher for gifted education. It was revealed that the differences between the education parts, education schedule and education methods of two the education centers, which were performed during the semester, influenced the perception of pre-service teachers who participated as the liaison teachers. The necessity of the systematic training on the observational skills and class contents were suggested as the essential support system for liaison teachers. The results of the study indicate that the gifted education organizations operating styles, the activities of liaison teachers, and pre-service teacher training program for gifted education emphasizes the long term actual guide experience at the education field for the gifted.
This study expects that Team Based Project Learning can act positive role to improve pre-service elementary teachers' teaching competence from previous studies. So designing and executing Team Based Project Learning program, I can provide some suggestions to the teaching method for teacher training education. In this study, Team Based Project Learning focuses on the use of history of mathematics in school mathematics. Also from organizing the team to evaluation, I conduct team activity systematically both inside and outside the classroom. The result of this study shows that pre-service elementary teachers' teaching competence has improved and I could identify the positive response about the value of using the history of mathematics and effect of Team Based Project Learning in mathematics learning.
This study explored the socialization of novice Home Economics(HE) teachers employing a qualitative research method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with four novice HE teachers from secondary schools. The collected data was analyzed inductively by NVivo, a kind of CAQDAS. The following analysis was organized around three stages of teachers' careers: first, as for influences on teacher socialization prior to formal teacher education, their experiences on 'apprenticeship of observation' provided them both positive and negative role models; second, as for the socialization role of pre-service teacher education, they mentioned that college courses were poorly connected to classroom realities with only a few helpful lectures on HE Education; third, as for socialization in the workplace and its culture, the novice HE teachers were confronted with many kinds of problems including isolation in the classroom, in-service training programs not geared to novices, an overwhelming workload, and so on. Because of these problems, they yearned for and also formed networks with other HE teachers in order to overcome their limitations. The findings supported the notion that interactive and dialectical processes exist during all stages of HE teachers' careers. This study suggests that the teacher in-service training programs are more relevant, and that the introduction of mentoring programs and classroom manuals and teacher manuals would be helpful in practice. These innovations call for cooperation between universities and provincial offices of education for teachers' professional success in teacher socialization.
This study was designed to identify the Attitude toward Engineering and Teacher Efficacy of pre-service teachers of engineering department, evaluate the validity of the difference and inquire into correlation between the Attitude toward Engineering and Teacher Efficacy. The study results are as follows. First, the Attitude toward Engineering of pre-service teachers of engineering department turned out to be 2.94, which is below average(3.00), and a bit lower figure than that of Teacher Efficacy(M=3.34). Second, there was no significant difference between the Attitude toward Engineering and Teacher Efficacy in a gender factor. In case of a major factor and grade variables, there was significant difference between Attitude toward Engineering and teaching efficacy of Teacher Efficacy. Third, as a result of analysis on the correlation between Attitude toward Engineering and Teacher Efficacy, it turned out that there was significant difference between in sub-area a few, which leads to conclusion that the attitude toward engineering and Teacher Efficacy will be gradually improved if educational institutes training pre-service teachers of engineering department operate teacher education courses considering major characteristics and learners' levels and give successful guidance to pre-service teachers. In addition, since the gender factor didn't make any significant difference between the attitude toward engineering and Teacher Efficacy, there is no need to develop and operate separate educational programs only for female or male pre-service teachers.
Objective: This study aimed to reveal pre-service early childhood teachers' perception of children's environmental education using concept mapping and demonstrating its importance. Methods: Based on Kane and Trochim's(2007) procedure, 33 pre-service early childhood teachers conducted brainstorming and statement writing, and then the importance of selected statements were rated by 202 pre-service early childhood teachers. Selected statements were analyzed through multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis. Results: Pre-service early childhood teachers perceived children's environmental education as concept mapping with 2-dimensions and eight clusters. The following eight clusters were established (1) daily practice through hands on experience, (2) nature environment, (3) recognizing and coping with environmental issues, (4) environmental preservation practices, (5) environmental sensitivity and consideration, (6) purpose of children's environmental education, (7) necessity for children's environmental education (8) Practice through connection with child's home and community. And then among the eight clusters, the most important was recognized as 'daily practice through hands on experience', and among the statements 'young children learn through the method of playing in nature and experience nature' was considered the most important. Conclusion/Implications: Based on these results, we discuss the importance of children's environmental education of pre-service early childhood teachers and how to support to develop teacher's training program.
In this study, we carried out mathematics teacher-training course. The topic of this training course is the understanding of content area reading in school mathematics. The teacher-training course is planned to guide mathematics teachers can perform effectively the teaching of content area reading. In particular, we illustrated the pre-service mathematics teacher education practice. Mathematics teachers investigated various teaching strategies that can lead their students read reading materials related to mathematics effectively. In this training courses, teachers reflects on their own experience and they have an opportunity to learn the new strategies that improve their teaching methods. Teacher educator and in-service teachers share and discuss their practices, they have a meaningful learning experiences. In this study, we presented the processes of the teacher-training course and the results of practice. Furthermore, on the basis of the limitations of this study, we suggested recommendations for the future teacher training program.
