  • We discuss certain structure theorems in the class A which is closely related to the study of the problems of solving systems concerning the predual of a dual operator algebra generated by a contraction on a separable infinite dimensional complex Hilbert space.

  • We characterize reducing subspaces of weighted shifts with operator weights as wandering invariant subspaces of the shifts with additional structures. We show how some earlier results on reducing subspaces of powers of weighted shifts with scalar weights on the unit disk and the polydisk can be fitted into our general framework.

  • In this note we set forth three possible definitions of the property of "almost commuting with a compact operator" and discuss an old result of W. Arveson that says that every operator on Hilbert space has the weakest of the three properties. Finally, we discuss some recent progress on the hyperinvariant subspace problem (see the bibliography), and relate it to the concept of almost commuting with a compact operator.

  • We investigate the number of the solutions for the biharmonic boundary value problem with a variable coefficient nonlinear term. We get a theorem which shows the existence of $m$ weak solutions for the biharmonic problem with variable coefficient. We obtain this result by using the critical point theory induced from the invariant function and invariant linear subspace.

  • We investigate the number of solutions for the superlinear elliptic bifurcation problem with Dirichlet boundary condition. We get a theorem which shows the existence of at least $k$ weak solutions for the superlinear elliptic bifurcation problem with boundary value condition. We obtain this result by using the critical point theory induced from invariant linear subspace and the invariant functional.

  • For each connected and simply connected three-dimensional non-unimodular Lie group, we classify the left invariant Lorentzian metrics up to automorphism, and study the extent to which curvature can be altered by a change of metric. Thereby we obtain the Ricci operator, the scalar curvature, and the sectional curvatures as functions of left invariant Lorentzian metrics on each of these groups. Our study is a continuation and extension of the previous studies done in [3] for Riemannian metrics and in [1] for Lorentzian metrics on unimodular Lie groups.

  • In this paper, we present some upper bounds for unitarily invariant norms inequalities. Among other inequalities, we show some upper bounds for the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. In particular, we prove $${\parallel}f(A)Xg(B){\pm}g(B)Xf(A){\parallel}_2{\leq}{\Large{\parallel}}{\frac{(I+{\mid}A{\mid})X(I+{\mid}B{\mid})+(I+{\mid}B{\mid})X(I+{\mid}A{\mid})}{^dA^dB}}{\Large{\parallel}}_2$$, where A, B, $X{\in}{\mathbb{M}}_n$ such that A, B are Hermitian with ${\sigma}(A){\cup}{\sigma}(B){\subset}{\mathbb{D}}$ and f, g are analytic on the complex unit disk ${\mathbb{D}}$, g(0) = f(0) = 1, Re(f) > 0 and Re(g) > 0.

  • Let M be a semi-invariant submanifold of codimension 3 with almost contact metric structure (𝜙, 𝜉, 𝜂, g) in a complex space form Mn+1(c). We denote by A, K and L the second fundamental forms with respect to the unit normal vector C, D and E respectively, where C is the distinguished normal vector, and by R𝜉 = R(𝜉, ·)𝜉 the structure Jacobi operator. Suppose that the third fundamental form t satisfies dt(X, Y) = 2𝜃g(𝜙X, Y) for a scalar 𝜃(≠ 2c) and any vector fields X and Y , and at the same time R𝜉K = KR𝜉 and ∇𝜙𝜉𝜉R𝜉 = 0. In this paper, we prove that if it satisfies ∇𝜉R𝜉 = 0 on M, then M is a real hypersurface of type (A) in Mn(c) provided that the scalar curvature $\bar{r}$ of M holds $\bar{r}-2(n-1)c{\leq}0$.

  • Using invariant theory, new invariant cubature formulas over a unit cube are given by imposing a group structure on the formulas. Cools and Haegemans [Computing 40, 139-146 (1988)] constructed invariant cubature formulas over a unit square. Since there exists a problem in directly extending their ideas over the unit square which were obtained by using a concept of good integrity basis to some constructions of invariant cubature formulas over the unit cube, a Reynold operator will be used to obtain new invariant cubature formulas over the unit cube. In order to practically find integration nodes and weights for the cubature formulas, it is required to solve a system of nonlinear equations. With an IMSL subroutine DUNLSF which is used for solutions of the system of nonlinear equations, we shall give integration nodes for the new invariant cubature formulas over the unit cube depending on each degree of polynomial precision.
