The purpose of this paper is to review the gifted education from a reflective perspective. Especially, this research touches upon the issues of selection process from a critical point of view. Most of the problems presented in the mathematics competition or in the programs for preparing such competitions share the similar characteristic: the circumstances that are given for questions are too artificial and complicated; problem solving processes are superficially and fragmentally related to mathematical knowledge; and the previous experience with the problem very much decides whether a student can solve the problem and the speed of problem solving. In contrast, the problems for selecting students for Gifted Education Center clearly show what the related mathematical knowledge is and what kind of mathematical thinking ability these problems intend to assess. Accordingly, the process of solving these problems can be considered an important criterion of a student's mathematical ability. In addition, these kinds of problems can encourage students to keep further interest, and can be used as tasks for mathematical investigation later. We hope that this paper will initiate further discussions on issues derived from the mathematically gifted student selection process.
This study is to suggest the alternative to limits of intelligence focused on Psychometric tests. Through this study, it was found that triarchic theory of intelligence and thinking styles, which were suggested by Sternberg, were useful. The subjects are 122 student who are at three science-high-schools. The results show that the subjects preferred judicial, executive, and hierarchical rather than conservative styles of thinking, and they had strong analytical, creative, and practical ability. The correlation between academic achievement and triarchic intelligence except automation was significant. The difference of academic achievements was not significant by styles of thinking related to creativity and pattern of triarchic intelligence. There was no interaction between two variables as we expected. The practical ability illustrated the total academic performance very well. And executive, judicial thinking styles were prediction variable in case of considering with triarchic intelligence. Through the results, it could be suggested that triarchic intelligence and thinking styles of non cognitive concept could be important standard referred to selection for the science-gifted, and argued that the reform of the science-high-school was needed to produce the creative-productive science-gifted student.

The purpose of this study was to compare the career awareness and social contribution consciousness between the elementary science gifted students and the general students. For this, survey was taken by 201 gifted students and 216 general students. Methods used are Cronbach alpha, frequency, percentage, independent t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results are as follows : 1. The gifted students have higher career awareness than the general students. The gifted students recognize their own interests, aptitudes and talents which they are concerned. 2. The gifted students have higher social contribution consciousness than the another. This shows that the gifted students have desire to be respected and positive view of social contribution. 3. There is a positive correlation between career awareness and the social contribution consciousness. According to the past studies, students' household economic status affect their view or grade which they get.. Based on these results, we suggest that a development of educational program for career awareness and social contribution consciousness which can improve gifted students' social responsibility consciousness is necessary.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the difficulties of teachers who teach gifted students in invention and to help address their concerns. To this end, the researcher interviews four teachers with more than three years of experience in guiding gifted students in invention. As a result, they have the difficulties such as difficulties in themselves, relationship with parents, in teaching students, relationship with school and relationship with education office. Supporting measures are 1) strengthening incentives for inventive gifted teachers, 2) continuing in service education, 3) improving the student selection process for gifted students in invention, 4) improving parents' perception of gifted students in invention, 5) improving awareness of school administrators, 6) consistent and continuous administration.
The purpose of this study was to compare Grit, failure tolerance and psychological well-being between elementary science gifted and general students. The subjects of this study were 48 science gifted students and 70 general students in the 5th and 6th grade of elementary school in Gyeonggi province. The results of this study were as follows: First, Grit, failure tolerance and psychological well-being of science gifted students were higher than those of the general students, there was a statistically significant difference. Second, science gifted students showed higher correlation between grit and failure tolerance, grit and psychological well-being than general students. Grit of science gifted students had a positive correlation with all sub-factors of academic failure tolerance and psychological well-being. In general students, there was a positive correlation with all sub-factors of Grit, academic failure tolerance, and psychological well-being except for the emotion sub-factor of academic failure tolerance. Thirdly, as a result of the regression analysis on the elements of failure tolerance affecting the Grit, science gifted students showed emotional factor but general students had behavioral factors. Also, as a sub-factor of psychological well-being on Grit, both science gifted and general students showed autonomy.
The purposes of this study were to inquire the status of academic integrity of the student in mentorship program at a science gifted institute attached to university and to seek the teaching plan of academic integrity. We administered questionnaire to 51 students who passed the enterance exam of mentorship program at the science gifted institute in 2013. The questionnaire consisted of three topics, 1) using reference, 2) purchasing, deputizing & plagiarizing of homework, 3) cooperative learning. As results of survey, students have a ethic in the following order: 'purchasing, deputizing & plagiarizing of homework', 'using reference', and 'cooperative learning'. Especially, the lack of conscious about 'cooperative learning' turned out to be a problem, because students have to research by cooperative learning during mentorship program. And there was no significant correlation between each topic. Finally, there was no correlation between ethical knowledge and degree of practicing it.
The aims of this study is figure out the characteristics of justification patterns and mathematical representation which are derived from 14 mathematically gifted middle school students in the process of solving the spatial tasks on Archimedean solid. This study shows that mathematically gifted students apply different types of justification such as empirical, or deductive justification and partial or whole justification. It would be necessary to pay attention to the value of informal justification, by comparing the response of student who understood the entire transformation process and provided a reasonable explanation considering all component factors although presenting informal justification and that of student who showed formalization process based on partial analysis. Visual representation plays an valuable role in finding out the Idea of solving the problem and grasping the entire structure of the problem. We found that gifted students tried to create elaborated symbols by consolidating mathematical concepts into symbolic re-presentations and modifying them while gradually developing symbolic representations. This study on justification patterns and mathematical representation of mathematically gifted students dealing with spatial geometry tasks provided an opportunity for understanding their the characteristics of spacial geometrical thinking and expending their thinking.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the attitudes toward science and support for scientific activities of the scientific gifted students' parents and the general students' parents in elementary school. The objects of the study were 99 scientific gifted students and their parents and 433 general elementary school students and their parents. The instruments for the measurement of attitudes toward science included three scales: cognition :About value of science, affection toward science and science learning, and cognitive participation in scientific activities. The instrument to measure parents' support for scientific activities included two scales: indirect support and direct support. The results of the study showed that the attitudes toward science of scientific gifted elementary students' parents were more positive than the attitudes toward science of general elementary students' parents. Also the gifted elementary students' parents supported many more scientific activities for their children with various methods than the general elementary students' parents. Their preferring support methods for scientific activities included 16 items including the collection of information about science education, the record of TV science programs, purchase of scientific books, subscription of periodical publication about science, preparing material for scientific activities, and reading scientific book with children.
In this study, an 'Independent Study Checklist' for gifted mathematics students was developed and applied. The characteristics shown in the results after the 'Independent Study Checklist' was applied to mathematics gifted students were analysed. The checklist was divided into six phases of the independent study process and included checking contents at each stage. Observations, student interviews and results of the process of 'Independent Study' were collected and analysed to understand the characteristics of students' outcomes. The results from the application of the 'Independent Study Checklist' suggest the followings. First, the 'Independent Study Checklist' took the role of a self-check list to identify the process of the 'Independent Study'. Second, the check points of the 'Independent Study Checklist' presented the view of discussion to gifted students. Third, the 'Independent Study Checklist' was used as teaching material for teachers of gifted students. Fourth, 'Independent Study Checklist' was optionally used according student's study topics and method. Fifth, the checklist at each phase was continuously used during the whole process of 'Independent Study'. The teachers' interest and encouragement took the role of facilitating students' study process.

As the importance of SW education increases, the necessity of SW gifted education is being required that early discovery of talented children in SW fields. In 2016, thirty SW gifted classes were set up for elementary and secondary school students and SW gifted education began. However, SW gifted education could not be carried out with consistency in detail because each class had different conditions such as selection methods of gifted students, curriculum and environment. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the situation of SW gifted classes in order to decrease the gap of the SW gifted class. In this research, all the SW gifted classes were investigated in the view of the curriculum, environment, student selection and contents through reviewing the installation-performance reports and on-site visits of all classes. Also, limitations and problems of the SW gifted classes were described and improvement methods were discussed.
