  • Engineering Colleges in Korea have two educational objectives: 1) strengthening of speciality 2) cultivation of the engineering literacy such as the ability of working together, the ability of communication and creative thinking. In order to achieving these objectives, Engineering Literacy education was originated. The improvable proposal of general education course of engineering college is divided into two parts. One is American type that emphasizes on the general education independently of major. The other is Korean ABEEK's type that attach importance to engineering literacy. This study researches the case of Seoul National University that applied ABEEK's engineering literacy on redesigning the curriculum. To redesign the curriculum, college of engineering, Seoul National University reduced the optional courses in general education and had the students complete the engineering literacy. • The purpose of this study is to suggest the general education contents for undergraduate students at engineering related departments through need analysis in order to develop creative and integral talents. For this study, the need analysis was conducted by using focus group interviews, Borich's educational need equation and the Locus for Focus Model, and highly ranked priorities on both methods proposed as the highest priorities. As a result, 'drawing up a letter of self-introduction and a portfolio', 'understanding fields', 'understanding careers related to the major', 'presentation skills', 'knowledge for certificated exams', 'method to deduct creative ideas' were high on the list of top five priorities. The selected items by Locus for Focus Model show that undergraduate students at engineering related departments need general education contents associated with career development and communication by priority.

  • This study was conducted in an inclusion class in M Inclusion Day Care Center in Busan. Thirteen sessions of cooperation teaching were applied in the inclusion class. In this sense, the purpose of this study was to identify what kinds of change occurred in the perspectives of teachers' role on both the general education teacher and the special education teacher during cooperation teaching. The data were collected through participation observations, teachers' reflective journals, and interviews. From the results of the study, it could be suggested that various types of teaching strategies need to be introduced to both teachers from the beginning of inclusion so that the general teacher and the special education teacher could understand each others roles and tasks, share opinions and ideas about daily activities, and experience the roles of the other teacher.

  • Nowadays, open education is popular in Korea. Various open education methods such as open time, open space, open curriculum, team teaching, small group learning are actively introduced into mathematics education. Current 'open education in mathematics' in Korea can be characterized as the application general education reform movement (open education movement) to mathematics education. This movement is interested in teaching methods rather than contents. In this article, I discussed with the limits and the problems of this application and argued that not the method-centered open general education reform movement but the content-centered mathematics education's own reform movement is necessary for the true mathematics education reform.
