  • The Spatial Autoregressive (SAR) models have drawn considerable attention in recent econometrics literature because of their capability to model the spatial spill overs in a feasible way. While considering the Bayesian analysis of these models, one may face the problem of lack of robustness with respect to underlying prior assumptions. The generalized Bayes estimators provide a viable alternative to incorporate prior belief and are more robust with respect to underlying prior assumptions. The present paper considers the SAR model with a set of linear restrictions binding the regression coefficients and derives restricted generalized Bayes estimator for the coefficients vector. The minimaxity of the restricted generalized Bayes estimator has been established. Using a simulation study, it has been demonstrated that the estimator dominates the restricted least squares as well as restricted Stein rule estimators.

  • This paper deals with a balanced model reduction for T-S(Takagi-Sugeno) fuzzy systems with time varying state delay. We define a generalized controllability gramian and a generalized observability gramian for a stable T-S fuzzy delayed systems. We obtain a balanced state space realization using the generalized controllability and observability gramian and obtain a reduced model by truncating states from the balanced state space realization. We also present an upper bound of the approximation error. The generalized controllability gramian and observability gramian can be computed from solutions of linear matrix inequalities. We demonstrate the efficacy of the suggested method by illustrating a numerical example.

  • The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) is a popular method for a high-dimensional regression model. LASSO has high prediction accuracy; however, it also selects many irrelevant variables. In this paper, we consider the moderately clipped LASSO (MCL) for the high-dimensional generalized linear model which is a hybrid method of the LASSO and minimax concave penalty (MCP). The MCL preserves advantages of the LASSO and MCP since it shows high prediction accuracy and successfully selects relevant variables. We prove that the MCL achieves the oracle property under some regularity conditions, even when the number of parameters is larger than the sample size. An efficient algorithm is also provided. Various numerical studies confirm that the MCL can be a better alternative to other competitors.

  • We frequently encounter outcomes of count that have extra variation. This paper considers several alternative models for overdispersed count responses such as a quasi-Poisson model, zero-inflated Poisson model and a negative binomial model with a special focus on a generalized linear mixed model. We also explain various goodness-of-fit criteria by discussing their appropriateness of applicability and cautions on misuses according to the patterns of response categories. The overdispersion models for counts data have been explained through two examples with different response patterns.

  • We explore the structure and usefulness of CERES plot as a basic tool for dealing with curvature as a function of the new predictor in generalized linear models. If a predictor has a nonlinear effect and there are nonlinear relationships among the predictors, the partial residual plot and augmented partial residual plot are not able to display the correct functional form of the predictor. Unlike these plots, the CERES plot can show the correct form. This is illustrated by simulated data.

  • This article introduces the R package ELCIC (https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/ELCIC/index.html), which provides an empirical likelihood-based information criterion (ELCIC) for model selection that includes, but is not limited to, variable selection. The empirical likelihood is a semi-parametric approach to draw statistical inference that does not require distribution assumptions for data generation. Therefore, ELCIC is more robust and versatile in the context of model selection compared to the currently existing information criteria. This paper illustrates several applications of ELCIC, including its use in generalized linear models, generalized estimating equations (GEE) for longitudinal data, and weighted GEE (WGEE) for missing longitudinal data under the mechanisms of missing at random and dropout.

  • In this paper, we study the local influence analysis of LIU type estimator in the linear mixed models. Using the method proposed by Shi (1997), the local influence of LIU type estimator in three disturbance models are investigated respectively. Furthermore, we give the generalized Cook's distance to assess the influence, and illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method by example.

  • Credit scoring is an objective and automatic system to assess the credit risk of each customer. The logistic regression model is one of the popular methods of credit scoring to predict the default probability; however, it may not detect possible nonlinear features of predictors despite the advantages of interpretability and low computation cost. In this paper, we propose to use a generalized partially linear model as an alternative to logistic regression. We also introduce modern ensemble technologies such as bagging, boosting and random forests. We compare these methods via a simulation study and illustrate them through a German credit dataset.

  • This study developed a Poisson generalized linear mixed model and a procedure to estimate genetic parameters for count traits. The method derived from a frequentist perspective was based on hierarchical likelihood, and the maximum adjusted profile hierarchical likelihood was employed to estimate dispersion parameters of genetic random effects. Current approach is a generalization of Henderson's method to non-normal data, and was applied to simulated data. Underestimation was observed in the genetic variance component estimates for the data simulated with large heritability by using the Poisson generalized linear mixed model and the corresponding maximum adjusted profile hierarchical likelihood. However, the current method fitted the data generated with small heritability better than those generated with large heritability.
