  • The emergence of wide channel bandwidth wireless standards requires the use of a highly linear, wideband integrated CMOS baseband chain with moderate power consumption. In this paper, we present the design of highly linear, wideband active RC filters and a digitally programmable variable gain amplifier. To achieve a high unity gain bandwidth product with moderate power consumption, the feed-forward compensation technique is applied for the design of wideband active RC filters. Measured results from a $0.5{\mu}m$ CMOS prototype baseband chain show a cutoff frequency of 10 MHz, a variable gain range of 33 dB, an in-band IIP3 of 13 dBV, and an input referred noise of 114 ${\mu}Vrms$ while dissipating 20 mW from a 3 V supply.

  • A low power 10bit current-mode folding and interpolating CMOS analog to digital converter (ADC) with arithmetic folding blocks is presented in this paper. A current-mode two-level folding amplifier with a high folding rate (FR) is designed not only to prevent ADC from increasing a FR excessively, but also to perform a high resolution at a single power supply of 3.3V The proposed ADC is implemented by a 0.6${\mu}$m n-well CMOS single poly/double metal process. The simulation result shows a differential nonlinearity (DNL) of ${\pm}$0.5LSB, an integral nonlinearity (INL) of ${\pm}$1.0LSB

  • Low-voltage, low-power gm-C filter utilizing newly dveloped operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) is described in this paper. The OTA has only two MOS transistors in saturation region between $V_{DD}$ and GND, and thus low voltage operation is possible. To improve the linearity, the OTA is made differential. Common mode feedback, essential in differential circuit, requires no additional implemented in $0.8\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS process, and the center frequency can be controlled from 15MHz with 3.0V single power supply.

  • A dB-linearity improved variable gain amplifier (VGA) for GPS receiver is presented. The Proposed dB-linear current generator has improved dB-linearity error of ${\pm}0.15$dB. The VGA for GPS is designed using proposed dB-linear current generator and composed of 3 stage amplifiers. The IF frequency is assumed as 4MHz and the linearity requirement of the VGA for GPS receiver is defined as 24dBm of IIP3 using cascaded IIP3 equation and the VGA satisfies 24dBm when minimum gain mode. The DC-offset voltage is eliminated using DC-offset cancelation loop. The gain range is from -8dB to 52dB and the dB-linearity error satisfies ${\pm}0.2$dB. The 3-dB frequency has range of 35MHz~106MHz for the gain range. The VGA is designed using 0.18${\mu}m$ CMOS process. The power consumption is 3mW with 1.8V supply voltage.

  • A 5-GHz band Low Noise Amplifier(LNA) using SOI MOSFET is designed. To improve the noise performance, depletion-type SOI MOSFET is adopted, and it is designed by the two-stage topology consisting of common-source and common-gate stages for low-voltage operation. The fabricated LNA achieved an S11 of less than -10dB, voltage gain of 21dB with a power consumption of 8.3mW at 5.5GHz, and a noise figure of 1.7dB indicated that the depletion-type LNA improved the noise figure by 0.3dB compared with conventional type. These results show the feasibility of a CMOS LNA employing depletion-type SOI MOSFET for low-noise application.
