Claude Régy's Poetic Directing : The Aesthetics of Silence (끌로드 레지의 시적연출 : 침묵의 미학)

  • This study is intended to review the poetic directing created by the aesthetics of silence of Claude Régy, a French director who carries out playwriting in silence, departing from conventions through the concept of "potentiality" proposed by Giorgio Agamben, an italian philosopher. Claude Régy stated, "What's fundamentally important is not to say what you want to say." Thus he tries to create the stage of "silence" rendered in overly slow, excessively segmented dialogues while selecting restrained minimal means. Agamben makes Bartleby who "prefers not to" as a cardinal model of his perfect potentiality, asserting that the nature of potentiality is revealed in the pause of actuality. As in Agamben's philosophy, Claude Régy's directing is also the "pause" of words and actions. This silence is not a return to actuality but a creation of the moment at which "the invisible" become visible. The silence of words or the silence of an empty stage with dim lighting is viewed by Agamben as potentiality that has "underlying passivity" and is "hospitable to non-existnece". In this light, this study is to create another direction for the theater arts of our time and the 21st century and to extend the horizon of new directional modes. It aldo reviews the concept of Agamben's "potentiality" that provides critical viewpoints to "the artist without content", works directed by Claude Régy who has created his own distinctive styles of direction with the aesthetics of "slowness" and "silence", L'intérieur by Maurice Maeterlinck and Quel'un va venir By Jon Fosse.

A Cross-Cultural Study of the Spiral of Silence Theory with Individualism-Collectivism and Uncertainty-Avoidance (문화적 차이에 따른 침묵의 나선 효과 검증)

  • This study explores how fear of isolation and willingness to speak out are affected by cultural values. The cross-cultural studies on the spiral of silent theory were conducted mostly in Eastern and Western countries and compared the results. It attributed to the results to the "individualist-collective" attitude difference. However, it did not explain the differences in the same individualism societies as well as in the collectivism societies. Thus, this study examined the impact of cultural values on the spiral of silence theory with 'individualism-collectivism' and 'uncertainty-avoidance'. To that end, the current study conducted online surveys in India, South Korea, the United States and Spain where have different levels of individualism, collectivism, and uncertainty-avoidance. As a result, individualism contributed to lower the fear of isolation, and collectivism and uncertainty avoidance have raised the fear of isolation. Besides, individualism and uncertainty avoidance also reinforce the willingness to speak out, while fear of social isolation has been shown to weaken the willingness to speak out. The study also found that fear of isolation has the mediated effect of individualism and collectivism on the willingness to speak out.

Effects of Abusive Supervision on Organizational Silence and Organizational Commitment in Travel Agency (상사의 비인격적 감독과 여행사 종사원의 조직침묵, 조직몰입과의 영향관계)

  • There is an increasing awareness about the abusive supervision(AS) and organizational silence(OS) in organizations and literature about the relation between organizational commitment(OC). But there is a shortage of studies about the abusive supervision and organizational silence in travel service. The purpose of this study is to research reasons of abuse supervision in organizations, its effects, results and applications which can minimize or remove abusive supervision by discussion. In this sense, Questionnaires were delivered 9 travel agencies in Seoul and 241 of them were taken. Questionnaire data was analyzed, and according to the results, some implications were proposed. Abusive supervision affects on organizational silence and organizational commitment of employee in travel agent. Organizational silence ha positive effects on organizational commitment. Organizational silence plays as a role of mediator variable in proposal research model. It is hoped that the present research will encourage future multi-level theoretical and empirical work on abusive supervision.

The Effect of Leader's Self-Deception Behavior on Team Learning: Mediating Effect of Psychological Safety and Silent Climate (리더의 자기기만 행동이 팀학습에 미치는 영향: 심리적 안전감과 침묵풍토의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study aimed to demonstrate the dual mediating effect of psychological safety(PS) and silence climate(SC) in the process of team leader's self-deception behavior(SD) influencing team learning(TL). We conducted a survey of 294 workers in domestic companies and analyzed the data statistically using SPSS 21 and SPSS Process Macro for hierarchical regression and bootstrapping. The results are as follows: 1. all correlation coefficients are significant showing that SD has positive correlations with SC and negative correlation with PS and TL, 2. simple mediation effects(SD-PS-TL and SD-SC-TL) are all significant, 3. the dual mediation effect of psychological safety and silence climate on the relation between team leader's self-deception behavior and team learning(SD-PS-SC-TL) is verified. This study showed that the authenticity of team leaders could be an crucial element for organizational communication and effectiveness. Finally, limitations and suggestions for future research were discussed.

The Effects of Trust in Supervisor, Work Intensity and Organizational Cynicism on Organizational Silence in Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 상사신뢰도, 간호업무강도, 조직냉소주의가 조직침묵에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of trust in supervisor, work intensity, and organizational cynicism on organizational silence of clinical nurses. Data were collected from 134 nurses in 6 hospitals in two cities in February 2018. The data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS 25.0. There were significant correlations between trust in supervisor, work intensity and organizational silence, r=-.32(p=<.001) and r=.18(p=.043), respectively. The factors that significantly influenced organizational silence were trust in supervisor (${\beta}=-.36$, p<.001), the length of career in current hospital (over 10 years, ${\beta}=-.67$, p=.002), type of work (day only, ${\beta}=-.79$, p<.001; 3-shift, ${\beta}=-.64$, p<.001). In order to reduce clinical nurses' organizational silence, programs should be provided to increase trust in supervisor and to offer changes in work types and work intensity.

A Study on the Authentic Leadership Influencing on Innovative Behavior: Focusing on Mediating Effect of Employee's Silence (진성리더십이 혁신행동에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 구성원 침묵의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • It is believed that there will be changes in the behavior of members according to the characteristics of the organization's leader. The purpose of this study is to find out the factors that induce changes in the behavior of employees of the organization through empirical research. In order to accomplish the research aims, we developed and verify the research model using authentic leadership as an independent variable and the innovative behavior as a criterion variable. In addition, by using the silent phenomenon of the members as a mediating variable, we also tried to find out how it affects the behavior of the employees. Empirical results of the study showed that authentic leadership as an independent variable had a direct influence on the innovation behavior of employees, and the mediating effect of silence also had a partial mediating effect. These findings suggest that leadership and Silence factors which are internal motivational factors leading to behavior of employees are affected innovative behavior. There are some expectations as follow. Based on this study, it would be an important issue that the study on the necessity of silence management of employees through research on the causes of silence felt by members of the organization and the influence.

The Impact of Fairness of Industrial Security Practitioners on Willingness to Comply with Workplace Silence and Security Policies (산업보안업무 종사자의 조직공정성이 직장내침묵과 보안정책준수의지에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to improve the working environment of industrial security workers by analyzing the effects of organizational fairness of workers in industrial security work on silence in workplace and will to adhere to security policy. The data used in this study consisted of a total of 190 respondents. Statistical analysis of correlation and multiple regression analysis was performed using the SPSS 18.0 statistical program, The results of the study are as follows. First, it can be seen that the more silent the workers in the industrial security work are not being treated fairly, the higher the silence in the workplace. Second, the factors of distribution and interaction fairness affect the will to comply with the security policy, so fair distribution and fair treatment of the compensation can increase the willingness of the industrial security worker to adhere to the security policy. Third, it was found that the dominant silent factor influenced the will to adhere to the security policy, and the more the silence about the organization and its job, the lower the will to adhere to the security policy. The results of this study show that organizational fairness and silence in the workplace directly and indirectly influence the willingness to adhere to the security policy.

Mediation Effect of Fear of Negative Evaluation and Avoidance Motivation between Covert Narcissism and Organizational Silence (직장인의 내현적 자기애가 조직 침묵에 미치는 영향에서 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움과 회피 동기의 이중매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of office workers' covert narcissism on organizational silence and identify the (Duel)mediation effects on fear of negative evaluation and the avoidance motivation. This study used a survey of 393 office workers to measure the covert narcissism, the organizational silence, the fear of negative evaluation and the avoidance motivation. The collected data were analyzed by IBM SPSS 23 and SPSS PROCESS macro in a Bootstrapping method. The result shows that the covert narcissism, the organizational silence, the fear of negative evaluation and the avoidance motivation have positive correlations. In addition, a simple regression analysis was used according to the research model and all of them showed adequate coefficient of determination between each variables. Next, the mediating model was verified by mediation of the fear of negative evaluation and the avoidance motivation. In the relationship between the covert narcissism and the organizational silence, the mediating effect of the fear of negative evaluation was not verified and the avoidance motive showed a partial mediating effect. Finally, in the relationship between the covert narcissism and the organizational silence, the fear of negative evaluation and the avoidance motivation were gradually mediated through the (Duel)mediation effects model, and the model was statistically significant. Through this study, The implications of this study were discussed, not only the limitations of the study but also the necessity of further research were discussed.

The Effect of Hospital Organizational Culture, Organizational Silence and Job Embeddedness on Turnover Intention of General Hospital Nurses (병원조직문화, 조직침묵과 직무 배태성이 종합병원 간호사의 이직의도에 미치는 영향에 대한 융복합 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of hospital organizational culture, organizational silence and job complexity on turnover intention in nurses working in general hospitals. The subjects were 152 nurses working at general hospitals. Data were collected from April 19, 2017 to April 30, 2017, and statistical analysis was analyzed by hierarchical multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. As a result of the research, turnover intention showed a positive correlation with resignation and defensive silence, whereas there was negative correlation between consensual organizational culture, sacrifice, suitability and connection of job inclination. The factors affecting the turnover intention were the present work experience, defensive silence, sacrifice, and the explanatory power of turnover intention was 47%. Therefore, in order to lower the turnover intention, it will be necessary to provide various programs to change the communication pattern in the nursing organization, and to provide differentiated welfare system.
