  • Recent studies have indicated that boys show better scientific achievements compared to those of girls. It is also a general conception that boys would be better than girls in terms of scientific creative performances and potential, although there have been few studies to support the general opinion. As the gifted education in Korea is progressing very rapidly, the importance of understanding the creative characteristics of gifted boys and girls has been increased. In the present study, we have compared and analyzed three different measures of creativity utilizing 135 gifted students (77 boys and 58 girls) to provide an empirical evidence for the different degrees of creative performances between gifted boys and girls. The instruments used to measure diverse aspects of creativity include the Torrance Test of Creativity (TTCT), the Test of Creative Problem-solving and Finding in Science (CPFS), and the Creative Behavioral Checklist in Science(CBCS). The results of the study indicate that girls, rather than boys, showed better creative performances, demonstrating moderately higher average scores on the three creative measures used in the study. The results are in contrast to people's general conception that boys would be more creative than girls. Implications of the study in connection with identification and educational practices for gifted education program have been discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between process variables, personality traits, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation and their mathematical creativity and how much these factors affect this creativity. These results show the major factor in mathematical creativity as being the gender difference between the gifted male and female middle school students. This also suggests that the education and living guidance of both gifted male and female students should take a different direction in relation to their gender differences in middle schools. In conclusion, all of the normal intellective and non-intellective factors, as well as home process variables, are the basic major data concerned with the effects of mathematical creativity. So, it is with all of this research that the proof for researching synthetically via a new creative research model can be offered.

  • With recognition of the self-leadership and creative personality for developing student competitive capability, this study examines the relationships among self-leadership, creative personality, innovative behaviour and learning satisfaction based on survey data from university students. The main findings of the study are as follows: first, the study found that self-leadership was positively associated with creative personality while there was also a positive relationship between self-leadership and innovative behaviour as well as learning satisfaction. Second, the empirical analysis of the paper also shows that creative personality partially mediated the relationship of self-leadership and innovative behaviour, but not for the relationship between self-leadership and learning satisfaction. In addition, the hypothesis on the positive association between learning satisfaction and innovative behaviour was not supported. This paper contributes to our understanding of self-leadership and innovative behaviour research by expanding to university student context and highlighting the role of creative personality. This study proposes that developing the self-leadership and creative personality of student are required for better innovative behaviour and thereby, learning performance.

  • The development process from creative potential to realized talent is complex and non-linear. This feature of the process stands out more in the process of living a creative life in the long-term rather than in a situation to solve certain problems in the short-term. The purpose of this study is to develop Creativity Path Inventory (CPI) for undergraduate students based on Sawyer's Zigzag Model which is one of creative process theories and to verify reliability and validity of the inventory. Thus, reflecting the characteristics of each stage of the model, this study developed 88 items in 8 factors and finally confirmed 38 items in 7 factors through item analysis and verification process on construct validity. Internal consistency of a total of 38 items in CPI turned out to be .835, confirming the reliability of the inventory and goodness-of-fit index of the final model also demonstrated an appropriate result. CPI with verified reliability and validity will help enable people who want to manifest creativity in view of everyday creativity to realize self-improvement by self-reporting their strengths and weaknesses on their own.
