  • In this study, we have look through the national progress of computer science education in South Korea and analyzed the main subjects and contents of each period. We suggests the ways to evolve the current computer science education in terms of class hours for computer science education, hierarchical instructions, and the limitation of current national curriculum. In South Korea, it has been leaded the computer science education in the world since the it was promoted in earnest since 1995. Based on the recently revised national curriculum, South Korean government are taking efforts to nurture a leader through computer science education in terms of the students' future skills. However, it should be promoted to strengthen the ability of not only problem-solving ability through programming education, but also balanced computing and digital literacy through enhancing the ICT skills. In order to improve the curriculum of computer science education in elementary school of South Korea, a sufficient class hours of computer science education should be secured first.

  • AI education is being emphasized nationwide as a literacy education. At this point, it is necessary to identify critical issues and suggest the direction of future research by examining domestic AI education research trends. To this end, the study applied the scoping review method. A total of 29 AI educational studies from 2017 to 2020 in South Korea were analyzed. As a result, it was confirmed that the number of studies increased rapidly in 2020, and a large proportion of studies targeted elementary school students. In addition, the study found that AI principles were treated as contents at a high rate, both cognitive and affective aspects were frequently reported as a learning outcome, and various practice environments were used relatively evenly. Based on the results, the direction of future research was discussed and suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to design a training program for pre-service elementary teachers, incorporating the concepts of extended reality technologies. This program contained the basic skills necessary for them to utilize in their future classrooms. To accomplish this, 12 undergraduate students of various majors enrolled in one of Korea's national universities of education were selected as research subjects. For a total of 6 times over 6 weeks, they participated in a training program learning the basic concepts of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, as well as creating their own education software to use in simulated classes. To improve the quality of future research efforts, this study found it would be beneficial to: 1) expand the relevant support equipment, 2) provide students with preliminary, background knowledge of text-based programming, 3) introduce short-term, more intensive training, and 4) improve the survey methods for this research.

  • This study analyzed students', parents of student, and school master' survey materials and reading, math, and science knowledge performance based on OECD PISA 2009 Koreana data. Also, school library level variables grasped the impacts of academic achievement. Through this study looked for suggestion to improvement, educational accountability and leverage of school library. The results, first, when they use reading more pleasantly thought, they achieve higher scores in academic performance. Second, when they use more books and reading resources in housekeeping, they achieve higher scores in academic performance. Third, when they were more visits school library for exploit internet, they achieve higher lower scores in academic performance. Fourth, when the member of the staff in the school library are more lack of people, they achieve lower scores in academic performance. Fifth, private education's experience in reading have a negative influence in reading achievement and science achievement. Sixth, school library's visiting and library application study about national language curriculum in the impacts of academic performance would not change statistical evaluation significantly.

  • Ability to make informed decisions by critically evaluating media information on socioscientific issues (SSI) is one of the crucial elements of scientific literacy that citizens should obtain. This study aims to investigate how middle school students evaluated media information about socioscientific issues (SSI) when they faced two different types of information (i.e., numerical and empathic information). To achieve the aim, 96 middle school students responded to the questionnaires asking them to evaluate reliability and persuasiveness of SSI media information. The questionnaires consisted of two sets of newspaper articles on each SSI (pro-numerical/empathic, against-numerical/empathic). After reading the articles, the students evaluated reliability and persuasiveness of each article and wrote the reasons for their evaluation. The results were as follows: First, the students believed that news articles with numerical information were more reliable than the ones with empathic information in all SSI contexts. They tended to trust scientific evidence and data from numerical information, and real cases, societal problems, expressions, and values from empathic information. In addition, they evaluated their reliability based on the logic of information, accuracy of information, breadth and depth of data, and quantity and quality of sources both numerical and empathic information. Second, in case of evaluating persuasiveness of the articles, they focused more on the values that information contained, richness and logicality of the information, rather than the types of information, regardless of the type of information.

  • In this paper, a case of deep learning artificial neural network education was studied for artificial intelligence literacy education for preservice teachers and incumbent teachers. In addition, through the proposed educational case, we tried to explore the contents of artificial neural network principle education that elementary, middle and high school students can experience. To this end, first, an example of training on the principle of operation of an artificial neural network that recognizes two types of images is presented. And as an artificial neural network extension application education case, an artificial neural network education case for recognizing three types of images was presented. The number of output layers was changed according to the number of images to be recognized by the artificial neural network, and the cases implemented in a spreadsheet were divided and explained. In addition, in order to experience the operation results of the artificial neural network, we presented the educational contents to directly write the learning data necessary for the artificial neural network of the supervised learning method. In this paper, the implementation of the artificial neural network and the recognition test results are visually presented using a spreadsheet.

  • This study investigated the degree of understanding pre-service teachers' random variable concept, based on the attention and the importance for developing pre-service teachers' ability on statistical reasoning in statistics education. To accomplish this, the subject of this study was 70 pre-service teachers belonged to three universities respectively. The teachers were given to 7 tasks on random variable and requested to solve them in 40 minutes. The tasks consisted of three contents in large; 1) one was on the definition of random variables, 2) the other was on the understanding of random variables in different/diverse conditions, and 3) another was on problem solving relevant to random variable concept. The findings are as follows. First, while 20% of pre-service teachers understood the definition of random variable correctly, most teachers could not distinguish between random variable and variable or probability. Second, there was a significant difference in understanding random variables in different/diverse conditions. Namely, the degree of understanding on the continuous random variable was superior to that of discrete random variable and also the degree of understanding on the equal distribution was superior to that of unequality distribution. Third, three types of problems relevant to random variable concept dealt with in this study were finding a sample space and an elementary event, and finding a probability value. In result, the teachers responded to the problem on finding a probability value most correctly and on the contrary to this, they had the mot difficulty in solving the problem on finding a sample space.

  • The development of intelligent information technology based on intelligence and data and network technology implemented by artificial intelligence has instigated innovation in society as a whole and has shown wide social and economic impact. Therefore, not only overseas but also in Korea, AI education is in a hurry to cultivate talents who will lead the upcoming society. Data is an important part of artificial intelligence, and data literacy, which can collect, process, and analyze data, to make data-based decisions, can be seen as an important competency to be developed along with AI literacy. Therefore, in this study, an AI data science education program that can increase data literacy of elementary school students was developed and applied to the experimental group, and its effectiveness was verified through a pre- and post response sample t-test. As a result, all of the four detailed competencies of data literacy, data understanding, collection, analysis, and expression, showed statistically significant improvement, indicating that the AI data science education program was effective in improving students' data literacy.

  • The educational environment, where the change to blended learning and AI convergence education through non-face-to-face is accelerating, is based on the cultivation of digital literacy. This study attempted to verify the effectiveness of future competencies by creating a collaborative SW education program on the metaverse platform that emerged by supplementing the problems through non-face-to-face. Twenty programs on how to design and create software were organized for small-scale elementary classes in the metaverse. In order to verify the effectiveness 4C competency tool presented as future educational competency was selected, and homogeneity test for the experimental group and t-test were conducted. The results showed the SW education programs based on metaverse was effective in improving collaborative communication skills, confirming the possibility of SW education through blended learning.
