  • Online content evaluation standards were suggested in order to improve quality of education for informatics gifted students in this paper. This evaluation standards were developed by thinking and learning style and characteristics of gifted students which were presented in preceding research. The evaluation standards were reviewed through reliability analysis as well as analysis of the characteristics of items and validity analysis by experts of informatics gifted student education sector. In the result of analysis, reliability of items has been very reliable. Level of difficulty and discrimination about the characteristics of items has also shown satisfactory value. Developed the evaluation standards has 5 evaluation categories such as "talent development", "Interaction", and others. It also has 11 evaluation factors and 40 evaluation items. The online content evaluation standards can be helpful and useful in order to develop qualitative online contents and select online contents for informatics gifted student.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how teachers recognize the differentiation of gifted education in invention to gifted education in science. An online survey was conducted to more than 500 hundred school teachers to ask (1) if gifted education in invention is necessary as an independent area of gifted education, (2) if gifted education in invention should be differentiated in identification, education programs, councelling, facilities and so on to gifted education in science, and (3) what problems gifted education in invention are facing and how we can promote gifted education in invention. Findings by this study are like the following: 1. Almost all teachers, regardless of whether their duty is related to gifted education in invention or not, recognized the necessity of gifted education in invention as an independent area of gifted education, especially from gifted education in science. 2. Teachers recognized the differentiation of gifted education in invention in diverse aspects of gifted education, like identification, educational programming, and so on, especially to gifted education in science. 3. Teachers recognized the shortage of trained teachers as the most critical obstacles to gifted education in invention, and also thought training programs for teachers as the most important means that can promote gifted education in invention.

  • This study examined the effects of students'perceptions of classroom on self-regulatory strategy use, persistent intention, and achievement in an online Science gifted program. The sample included 434 middle and high school students who participated in the 3-months online gifted program. Participants volunteerly surveyed on their perceptions of classroom (appeal, challenge, choice, meaningfulness, academic self-efficacy), self-regulatory strategy use, and persistent intention. Student achievement data was collected from online learning system. Multiple Regression was conducted to analyze the effect of students'perceptions of classroom on various dependent variables. The results of this study showed that (1) students use of rehearsal strategy was positively related to academic self-efficacy among the sub-variables of students'perceptions of classroom and the use of rehearsal strategy was negatively related to challenge; (2) the use of elaboration strategy was positively related to challenge and meaningfulness; (3) the use of time management strategy was positively related to academic self-efficacy and the use of resource management strategy was positively related to challenge; and (4) students' persistent intention was related to appeal, challenge and meaningfulness, achievement was related to challenge.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the outcome of 'The second plan for identifying and nurturing of science-gifted student' and investigate the implications for the third plan. 'The second plan for identifying and nurturing of science-gifted student' was made for the promotion of science-gifted education from 2013 to 2017. This plan is composed of three strategies with 25 sub-projects: a systematic identification of science-gifted students with potential, an activation of creative and integrated science-gifted education and an establishment of optimized science education supporting system. We supposed six implications through the investigation of the performance analysis of each sub-project. First, the third plan should be composed of projects to be able to be supported directly. Second, the paradigm shift is needed from quantitative expansion to qualitative expansion. Third, third plan should include a special support for profoundly gifted students. Fourth, a specialization plan for science-gifted institute is required. Fifth, it is necessary to establish a camp or residential type gifted institute. Sixth, it is needed to have a quality management of science-gifted programs and MOOC (massive open online course) on science-gifted programs are needed.

  • In this study, learning preferences of the informatics gifted participating in on-line programming practice has been investigated and the tutoring strategy based on learning styles was developed and verified its effectiveness. On-line programming learning is the environment in which learning is done through interaction with a tutor. For determination of the students' learning styles, Grasha-Reichmann's learning style was utilized. Key elements, learning activity and feedback, of tutoring strategy were derived based on learning style and developed on-line programming learning tutoring strategy. To verify the effectiveness, six-class period of learning C-language of 173 middle and high school students based on learning styles was applied for 12 weeks. As a result, the experiment group applied with a tutoring strategy based on the learning style showed significant improvements in terms of satisfaction and achievement than the control group.

  • In this paper, we attempted to provide the bases of effective educational programs for fostering ICT competencies of gifted students in science. For this purpose, we tried to answer the questions like 'What are the ICT core-competence for gifted students in science?' and 'How can we educate those competencies effectively?' We started by reviewing existing studies on ICT competencies for talented people in future society and then adopted one[6] as the basis for further validation. We tried to work with as many G/T experts as possible, and decided to use the online survey methodology because the experts are scattered all over the country. The survey was sent to the corresponding person who is in charge of G/T education in each area, and then e-mailed to G/T experts in that area. Through these procedures, three hundred four(304) G/T experts from all around the country participated in this survey. The results showed the followings: (1) G/T experts agreed with the importance and necessity of ICT competencies for gifted students in science; (2) G/T experts agreed with the validity of three core ICT competencies, which are 'knowledge and skills competence, creativity competence, and characteristic competence,' for gifted students in science; (3) G/T experts agreed with the validity of educational goals, which are suggested for fostering each ICT core-competence of gifted students in science; and (4) G/T experts regarded 'product-oriented education' and 'ICT device-oriented education' as important and effective types of education programs for fostering ICT competencies of gifted students in science.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the self-directed learning types of software education learners and to characterize them according to each type. To do this, 429 middle school students participating in online software education at K university were surveyed and a latent class analysis to analyze self-directed learning types was conducted. As a result, the self-directed learning types of the software education learners were classified into 'highest level of self-directed learning type (class 1)', 'self learning style recognition type (class 2)', 'self learning style preference type (class 3)', and 'lack of self-directed learning type(class 4)'. Also, the level of software learning achievement according to self-directed learning type of software education learners was found to be the highest at 'highest level of self-directed learning type (class 1)' and lowest at 'self learning style preference type (class 3)'. Based on these results, we suggested the strategic implications for software education.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of science journal writings on the cognitive and affective features of the science gifted students. In this research, the tasks of on-line science journal writings were assigned for 6 months and the subjects in this study were 21 students of Chemistry Division of the Center for Science Gifted Education, Seoul National University. Consequently in science journals, science concepts are found in various aspects according to the writing formats, and psychological and behavioral characteristics of the science-gifted are revealed in positive or negative aspects. In cognitive prospect, science journal writing equips students with better understanding about science concepts and scientific research. In affective prospect, science journal writing help students improve observation and attitude toward science as wren as writing skills. Accordingly, science journal writing has positive effect on cognitive and affective characteristics of the science-gifted. In conclusion, acknowledged by most of science-gifted students as both beneficial and appropriate in their education program, science journal writing should be emphasized in education for science-gifted students.
