A study on literature review of mathematical modeling in mathematical competencies perspective (수학 교과 역량 관점에서의 수학적 모델링에 관한 선행 연구 탐색)

  • The animated discussion about mathematical modeling that had studied consistently in Korea since 1990s has flourished, because mathematical modeling was involved in the teaching-learning method to improve problem solving competency on 2015 reformed mathematics curriculum. In an attempt to re-examine the educational value and necessity of application to school education field, this study was to review the literature of mathematical modeling in mathematical competencies perspective. As a result, mathematical modeling could not only be involved the components of problem solving competency, but also support other competencies; reasoning, creativity-amalgamation, data-processing, communication, and attitude -practice. In this regard, This paper suggested the necessity of the discussion about the position of mathematical modeling in mathematical competencies and the active use of mathematical modeling tasks in mathematics textbook or school classes.

A Comparison of Effect of Lecture-Based Learning and Problem-Based Learning on Scientific Reasoning in Basic Medicine (교재중심 강의와 문제중심학습 방식이 기초의학에서 과학적 추론에 미치는 효과 비교)

  • Purpose: The aim of this preliminary study was to evaluate the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum on development of comprehension of basic medical knowledge and quality of semi-structured problem solving including scientific reasoning skill. This scientific reasoning contained five components including: size of simple, design of research cause-effect, construction of risk factor, analysis statistic of data, interpretation of result. Materials and Methods: Seoul National University Dental students (100) participated in this experience during two weeks, 2004. Forty eight multiple-choice questions (MCQ) concerned "Infection Control and Prevention" were asked before and after two sections of Lecture-Based Learning (LBL) and PBL (pretest-posttest control group design). A semi-structured problem in epidemiological research was asked to these students after two sections (posttest-only control group design). Data (mean and SD) were analysed using the t Test for two independent samples (p<.05), comparing PBL versus LBL. Results: Our analyse of scores show no difference between LBL and PBL in the development of comprehension of "Infection Control and Prevention". The quality problem solving (epidemiological research) was significantly different between the two groups (p=.029); specially, two components' scores of reflection on scientific reasoning cause-effect (p=.000) and interpretation of result (p=.001) were significantly better for PBL than for LBL. Conclusion: Theses results indicate that comparing LBL and PBL, PBL curriculum have not been disadvantaged in comprehension of basic knowledge, and have contributed to develop the scientific reasoning in problem solving.

Creative Problem Solving Styles, Conflict Management Types and Team Performance in the Cooperative Learning of Engineering College Students (공대생들의 협동학습에서 창의적 문제해결스타일 및 갈등관리 유형과 팀 수행)

  • This study was conducted to compare the creative problem solving styles and conflict management types between engineering college students with high and low team performance records. Most students with high team performance records preferredDeveloper style(76.7%) and Task-oriented style(65.1%), whereas most students with low team performance records preferred Explorer style(72.2%) and Person-oriented style(86.1%). Results of the comparison of conflict management types revealed that most students with high team performance records belonged to a competitive logic type(22.8%) and an accommodative compromise type(17.7%), while most students with low team performance records belonged to an accommodative compromise type(20.3%) and a permissive resignation type(12.7%). It would be useful to provide the engineering students with the specialized program to complement their problem solving styles and conflict management types.

Rule-Inferring Strategies for Abductive Reasoning in the Process of Solving an Earth-Environmental Problem (지구환경적 문제 해결 과정에서 귀추적 추론을 위한 규칙 추리 전략들)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify heuristically how abduction was used in a context of solving an earth-environmental problem. Thirty two groups of participants with different institutional backgrounds, i,e., inservice earth science teachers, preservice science teachers, and high school students, solved an open-ended earth-environmental problem and produced group texts in which their ways of solving the problem were written, The inferential processes in the texts were rearranged according to the syllogistic form of abduction and then analyzed iteratively so as to find thinking strategies used in the abductive reasoning. The result showed that abduction was employed in the process of solving the earth-environmental problem and that several thinking strategies were used for inferring rules from which abductive conclusions were drawn. The strategies found included data reconstruction, chained abduction, adapting novel information, model construction and manipulation, causal combination, elimination, case-based analogy, and existential strategy. It was suggested that abductive problems could be used to enhance students' thinking abilities and their understanding of the nature of earth science and earth-environmental problems.

Analyses of Subject Competencies of the Units Related to Core Concept 'Relation' in Middle School Technology-Home Economics Textbooks based on 2015 Revised Curriculum (2015 개정 교육과정 중학교 기술·가정 교과서의 핵심개념 '관계' 단원에 구현된 교과역량 분석)

  • The purposes of this study were to develop analysis criteria and analyze the two subject competencies of units dealing with the core concept 'Relation' of the middle school Technology-Home Economics textbook in accordance with the 2015 revised curriculum: 'practical-problem-solving-ability' and 'relationship ability'. The subject of analysis of the current study was the activity assignment of Chapter 1 related to the core concept 'Relation', from the twelve middle school 'Technology-Home Economics II' textbooks. The results of this study were as follows: First, some textbooks showed differences in highlighting or downplaying the components of certain subject competencies. The analysis results for 'practical-problem-solving-ability' in textbook A, E, and G were shown in the high frequency, while in textbook D in the lowest frequency. The analysis results for 'relationship ability' in textbook K and A were shown in the high frequency, while in textbook J in the lowest frequency. Second, Value Judgement was the most frequent component of 'practical-problem-solving-ability' followed by Logical Thinking, Practical Reasoning, and Decision-Making. Family Relation and Sense of Community was the component of 'relationship ability' most frequently dealt with followed by Communication, Conflict Management, and Respecting Others, however Environmental and Ecological Awareness was not shown at all. The two subject competencies were mostly reflected in the Technology-Home Economics textbooks from all the twelve publishers.

A Study on Mathematical Creativity Task (수학적 창의성 과제에 대한 고찰)

  • This study reviewed the notion and strategies of mathematical creativity from two point of view, mathematics and creativity. By these reviews, the spectrum was presented as frame of mathematical creativity task. Creativity and mathematics were seen as polar opposites and mathematical creativity task fit clearly at various points in this spectrum. Some focused on the quantity of ideas and originality from creative point of view. On the other hand, some focused on reasoning, insight, and generalization from mathematical point of view. The tasks on the spectrum were served as the vehicle of mathematical creativity and mathematics classroom. Therefore, there were some specific suggestions that mathematics classroom could be made a place where students and teachers would be able to foster their mathematical creativity.

  • To revitalize the trucking market, many studies are being done but it still has a lot of problems such as imbalance between supply and demand, poor profit structure of truck owners, ect. Therefore, it aims to study what kinds of prerequisite are needed to solve these problems through analyzing system structure and mechanism of the market. To achieve it, System Dynamics methodology, appropriate to make a simulation model and analyze dynamics of the system, is utilized. To obtain an empirical research point of view, time series data related on trucking market-provided by The Korea Transport Institute-are used. In addition, interview with a local representative logistics company and a ICD(Inland Container Depot) operation company is performed to find out technical and functional supporting factors to solve the existing problems in the market.

  • One of important factors for improving the learning achievement of students in computer programming education is to provide plenty of opportunities of problem-solving experiences through variety forms of assignments, However, for the most cases, evaluation of programming assignments is performed manually by instructors and automated tools for the accurate evaluation are not equipped at the present time. Under this restricted environment instructors need much work and time to grade assignments so that instructors could not deliver sufficient programming assignments to students, In order to overcome this problem. au automated programming assignment evaluation system is needed that would enable instructors to evaluate assignments easily in an effective and consistent way and also to detect any plagiarism activities among students in program source codes readily, Accordingly, in this paper we design and implement a Web-based programming assignment grading system that allows instructors to evaluate program performance automatically as well as to evaluate program styles and piagiarism easily with appropriate feedback.

Studies on Effective Management of Cabotage in Maritime Co-operation of Northeast Region (동북아물류협력에 있어 효율적 Cabotage운용에 대한 연구)

  • It is recent trend that every countries are opening their border in the name of liberalization of contemporary era. Shipping is not exceptional and it used to be said as international business. Therefore, co-operation and openness of maritime sectors between regional countries is required to utilize resources that each countries can manage. It can be done by employing their vessels in other countries' short sea area. However, there are some problems to implement this practices, here cabotage is centre of issue. Each countries do not open their sea in order to protect their national interests in sovereignty. But, it should be opened if co-operation between each countries work well and properly. To achieve true maritime co-operation, countries as Korea, China and Japan in Northeast Asia region should have understanding for the opening of cabotage. In order to make things work well, it can be done by the lessons from EU and American cases. Therefore, it should be clarified such as market scale to provide cabotage trade, employment as well as interested parties, and technical safety matters as well as environmental standards. Then cabotage matters can be smoothly resolved between three countries in Northeast Asia region.

Challenges and Solutions of Electronic Journal Consortium (전자저널 컨소시엄의 당면과제와 해결방안 모색)

  • This study was aimed to establish a workable strategies to operate KESLI consortium reliably. To encourage the research purposes, it was mainly investigated international literature on current challenges for the e-journals consortium in comparison with the domestic implications. Major issues and challenges are divided to six items by scholarly communication changes and e-journals percentage increase, a big deal for a contract -based consortium pricing model in vogue, a consortium of the price hikes and making budget difficulties, use the standard statistics by the results of the use, archiving and archive security uncertainty, and contracts public availability of such external conditions. As a result, the international challenges of E-journals consortium was similar to KESLI, but the depth of information and research on domestic was weaker than the international research. To see more research and a rational perception based on scientific evidence and alternatives that enable KESLI working in the field was needed to be.
