The subject of this study in 2019 was 2,246 multicultural adolescents who were in the fourth grade of elementary school at the time. As a result of the study, it was found that the more positive and positive parental support and parenting attitude were, the higher the degree of school life and social competence of multicultural adolescents. On the other hand, the degree of school life and social competence varies according to gender, and it was found that female students were higher than male students. There was a significant difference in the degree of school life according to the mother's educational background, but there was no significant difference in the degree of social competence. These results suggest that parental support and parenting attitudes are major environmental variables in the educational ecosystem that affect the school life and social competence of multicultural adolescents.

  • This study aims to propose desirable operational strategies for public library programs as a means to alleviate the daily difficulties faced by married immigrant women. To achieve this, We conducted an analysis of 326 multicultural programs from 132 institutions, all of which were supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2022. The purpose was to gain an understanding of the current situation and identify any issues related to these programs. Additionally, we conducted interviews with married immigrant women to gain insights into the challenges they encounter in Korean society and to determine their specific demands regarding library programs. Furthermore, we interviewed librarians responsible for multicultural services to better comprehend their experiences in managing such programs and to understand their perceptions of multicultural services for married immigrant women. Based on these findings, we have proposed four operational strategies for public library programs targeting married immigrant women. These strategies include: 1) Program content, 2) Program operation method, 3) Building a personal network and utilizing human resources, 4) Collaboration with other institutions.

  • At public elementary schools in areas where multicultural students are concentrated, they have difficulty understanding classes due to their lack of Korean proficiency. Multicultural teaching and learning materials produced by teachers have not been managed or reused and stored individually. To overcome this situation and increase students' learning effect, the study applied digital curation to multicultural teaching and learning materials and suggested to link the materials with a platform that can be stored, used, and shared. The study was based on B Elementary School in A City, a multicultural international innovation school under the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education. The process of applying digital curation to multicultural teaching and learning materials was analyzed by collecting, organizing/selecting teaching and learning materials, categorizing subject, classifying subtopic, and linking with platforms. • Ninety-eight bestselling children's picture books from 2008 to 2014 were analyzed for multicultural education. The criteria used for the analysis included Culture, Diversity, Identity, Equity, Anti-bias, and Cooperation that were drawn from Kim & Park (2011). An examination of the books revealed that they contained concepts of Cooperation, Identity, Culture, and Diversity in their orders of frequency while ideas of Equity and Anti-bias were barely depicted. Differences between domestic and translated books were found. Translated picture books reflected Diversity more frequently than domestic ones. Under a criterion of Culture, Recognizing Differences and Similarities was more frequently portrayed in translated books while Respecting for Cultures was more frequently found in domestic ones. Findings were discussed in terms of bestselling picture books' limitations of dealing with critical multicultural issues, domestic picture books' lack of reflection of changing multicultural realities, fantasy picture books'dealing with critical multicultural issues through metaphors, and possible problems of the books conveying biased or confusing messages. It was suggested that an adult's role is essential when the bestselling literature is used for the purpose of multicultural education. Their deliberate guidance can help young children engaged in critical issues of race, gender, and ability and develop their multicultural sensitivities through literature.
