Objectives : The objective of present study is to evaluate anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects of Perilla(Perilla frutescens; Labiatae, PF), the roots of Peucedanum praeruptorum(PP) and the root of Scutellaria baicalensis(SB) in vitro and anti-asthmatic effects of mixture of PF, PP and SB(PS) on ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma in BALB/c mice. Methods : Anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects were observed on the lipopolysaccharide(LPS) treated RAW 264.7 cells through Nitric Oxide(NO) production and RBL-2H3 cells through ${\beta}$-hexosaminidase. Anti-asthmatic effects were observed on the number of inflammatory cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF) and the level of IgE in serum on OVA-induced BALB/c mice. Results : The treatment of PF, PP and SB(12.5, 25, 50, $100{\mu}g/m{\ell}$) resulted in a significant inhibition of NO production in RAW 264.7 cells and mast cell degranulation in RBL-2H3 cells. Oral administration of PS(400mg/kg/day) resulted in a significant reduction in the numbers of eosinophils in BALF and level of IgE in serum. Conclusion : The oral administration of PS is effective in ameliorating the eosinophilic infiltration in vivo and thus can be a good therapeutic candidate for allergic asthma.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of Cheongsimyanggyeoksan(CYS) water extract in vitro and in vivo. Methods : To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of CYS, Raw 264.7 cells were pretreated with $3-300{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ of CYS for 1h, and then exposed to $1{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ of LPS. The cell viability was detected by MTT assay. Productions of nitric oxide(NO) and pro-inflammatory cytokines were measured in culture media. Protein levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) and Nuclear factor-${\kappa}$B($NF-{\kappa}B$) were determined by immunoblot analysis. The effect of CYS on acute inflammation in vivo was evaluated thorugh measurment of carrageenan-induced paw edema. Results : In vitro study, cell viability assay CYS treatment of $3-300{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ has no cytotoxicity in Raw 264.7 cells. LPS-induced NO production was significantly inhibited by pretreatment with $30-300{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ of CYS. Production of interleukin-6, -$1{\beta}$ and tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ by LPS were significantly decreased by CYS pretreatment. CYS reduced LPS-mediated iNOS expression. Moreover, CYS significantly induced $I-{\kappa}B{\alpha}$ expression and reduced $NF-{\kappa}B$ expression. In vivo study, CYS significantly reduced the increases of paw swelling. Conclusions : These results suggest the clinical basis of CYS for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to confirm the Efficacy and Safety of "Functional cosmetics containing Humulus japonicus Extract" on dry skin due to mild atopic dermatitis. Methods : A total of 48 patients who visited Semyung Oriental Medical Center from March 20th, 2018 to July 5th, 2018 were included in the study. In this study, the patients were treated with Functional cosmetics containing Humulus japonicus Extract and positive control group. For 6 weeks of gross examination, instrumental assessment were made before and after the study to evaluate how well the products for treatment group with positive control products for control group in recovering the dry skin barriers by mild atopic dermatitis. Results : 1. In the primary endpoint, Skin Hydration showed a statistically significant increase and Transepidermal Water Loss(TEWL) showed a statistically significant decrease in treatment group between Baseline and 6 weeks. 2. In the secondary endpoint, Skin Hydration showed a statistically significant increase in treatment group between Baseline and 3 weeks, but TEWL showed no statistical significance. 3. In the secondary endpoint, Skin Hydration showed a statistically significant increase in treatment group between 3 weeks and 6 weeks, but TEWL showed no statistical significance. 4. In the secondary endpoint, Change of Skin Hydration and TEWL between treatment and control group showed a statistical significance in 6 weeks. 5. In the secondary endpoint, Change of Skin Hydration of 1cm below the medial aspect of the elbow between treatment and control group showed a statistical significance in 3 weeks. 6. In the secondary endpoint, Change of Skin Hydration between treatment and control group showed a statistical significance in 3 weeks and 6 weeks except Center between the medial aspect of the elbow and the wrist in 3 weeks, and Change of TEWL between treatment and control group showed a statistical significance in 6 weeks. 7. To evaluate the safety of the products for the human body, Adverse events, EASI Score, Itching Symptoms Assessment, vital sign check were conducted; There were no severe adverse events during this study. And both experimental group and control group showed no abnormal level. Therefore, it is suggested that products, if used for certain period, should be safe for the human body. Conclusions : According to the above experiments, it is suggested that "Functional cosmetics containing Humulus japonicus Extract" should be effective for dry skin due to mild atopic dermatitis.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of traditional korean medicine treatment on patients with olfactory disorder who did not respond to steroid treatment. Methods : A retrospective chart review was conducted on 16 patients who visited the outpatient clinic with olfactory disorder for over 1 month. The patients were treated with Herbal medicine, acupuncture, electronic moxibustion, intranasal pharmacopuncture, and olfactory training. The treatment effect was evaluated by KVSS I test. Results : There was no significant difference in KVSS I test score according to sex, age, duration of treatment, number of treatment, the days after onset. There was no significant difference in the KVSS I test scores before and after the treatment for the cases of sinonasal disease, head trauma, and idiopathic cases. However, there was a significant difference in cases of post-viral olfactory disorder. Conclusion : Traditional korean medicine may be effective for patients with post-viral olfactory disorder that did not show improvement in steroid treatment.

Objective : This study summarized the characteristics of clinical trials for atopic dermatitis medicines approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety(MFDS). This study may be a reference for the design of clinical trials of atopic dermatitis herbal medicine treatment which may be carried out later. Method : The characteristics of the clinical trial were analyzed for clinical trials registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, CRIS, and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute among the clinical trial approval statuses posted on the website of the MFDS. Result : 1. Clinical trial drugs were developed in various formulations such as oral medicines, injections, dermatologic agents, and similar proportions. Relatively little clinical trials were found for herbal medicine. 2. In the control evaluation test, most of the treatments for the control group were performed with placebo using Vehicle. 3. In most clinical trials, one intervention group was in the form of a parallel assignment with only one treatment. 4. The age of the subjects was 11 out of 28 studies including minors, and clinical trials targeting minors were also found to be significant. 5. In the case of atopic dermatitis, the cases of subacute chronic or atopic dermatitis more than 6 months or more than 1 year were often used. 6. Most clinical trials were divided into mild to moderate atopic dermatitis or moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. The SCORAD index, EASI, IGA, BSA, and NRS were used as the evaluation criteria. 7. Regulations for the drugs used prior to the trial period for the treatment of atopic dermatitis vary somewhat from one clinical trial to another. 8. IGA was used most often as a primary efficacy tool, and SCORAD index, EASI, and NRS were also used.

Objectives : This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Gwakhyangjeonggi-san(GJS) on atopic dermatitis(AD) induced by 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene(DNCB) in mice. Methods : The mice(Balb/c mice) were divided into three groups; normal Balb/c mice with oil treatment(Sham group), DNCB-induced AD mice(AD group), and GJS treated AD mice(GJS group). GJS group were orally administered GJS daily for 2 weeks. We observed changes of clinical skin severity score, the expression of thymic stromal lymphopoietin(TSLP), interleukin(IL)-4 and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-${\alpha}$ in skin and mast cell infiltration. Also, serum immunoglobulinE(IgE), IL-4, $TNF-{\alpha}$ and IL-6 were evaluated. Results : The clinical skin severity score of GJS group was decreased compared to AD group. In hematoxylin and eosin staining results, GJS group showed a significant reduction of epithelial skin thickness. In addition, expression of TSLP and mast cell infiltration in skin were also reduced by GJS treatment compared to those of AD group. Thus, we evaluated expression of IL-4, Th2-dependent cytokine, and $TNF-{\alpha}$, pro-inflammatory cytokine in skin. GJS significantly reduced both IL-4 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ compared to AD mice. Moreover, levels of IgE, IL-4, $TNF-{\alpha}$ and IL-6 in plasma also significantly decreased by oral GJS treatment. Conclusion : The present study suggests that GJS can significantly reduced symptoms of AD, therefore it can be a promising candidate for anti-atopic dermatitis treatment.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Cheongshimyeonja-eum gagambang and Soyeom pharmacopuncture for nummular eczema patients. Methods : This study was conducted with three patients treated with nummular eczema at Cheonan Oriental Medical hospital of Daejeon university. All three patients were treated with Cheongshimyeonja-eum gagambang and Soyeom pharmacopuncture. For the evaluation of the results, we used Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) as an assessment methods and took photographs of the lesions for comparison. Results : After the medication, eczema lesions of the three patients were remarkably improved. The lesions were examined by the photographs and the VAS of pruritus and relating symptoms, Conclusions : This study suggests that Cheongshimyeonja-eum gagambang and Soyeom pharmacopuncture could show effectiveness on nummular eczema.

Objectives : Paralytic strabismus refers to the nerve paralysis in the muscles responsible for the movement of the eyeball for any reason, resulting in a restriction of eye movement. This study is to report a case of the paralytic Strabismus caused by midbrain infarction treated with Korean medicine. Methods : Patient received Korean medical treatment such as acupuncture & herbal medicine (Saengkankunbi-tang). Result & Conclusion : During 15 weeks of the treatment, patient's strabismus and diplopia were improved.

Objectives : This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Hwanggigunjung-tang on child with nose bleeding. Methods : We treated 7 nose bleeding patients with allergic rhinitis. We evaluated frequency, duration, amount of nose bleeding. Results : After the treatments objective score of nose bleeding was remarkably decreased. Conclusions : This study suggests that Hwanggigunjung-tang is effective with nose bleeding with allergic rhinitis.
