Recently the operation of tilting train is considered in order to speed up the conventional railway, The vehicle and track should be studied to operate the tilting train. In this study, the basic technical feasibility was studied in order to operate the tilting train in the specific line.

In relation to the connection of South-North railway(Kyongui-Line), the operating speed of the train in Kyongui-Line was reviewed. Due to the insufficient maintenance to support on the track of north section of Kyongui-Line, it is very old. The plan that the train run in the north section faster than present time was studied. Finally, the electric power required in the north section was predicted.

The Korean high speed railway system is scheduled to open sometime in 2004. To fulfill its duties, it is essential to view intermodalism in easy access to high speed railway station. To study travelers' choice of mode and to make improvements the transfer, a SP survey of 3628 was conducted in national level in the fall of 2001. An understanding of KTX passenger mode choice is crucial for station-related facility capacity planning. Development of main and regional high speed stations, as well as changes in the roadway and railroad transportation system for station access, will influence the relative demand for traveling by train from compel ing other transportation mode. The research described here was designed to derive a general overview of the basic travel patterns with an emphasis on intermodal transportation system.

This paper deals with the exchange of tourists and the operation of sightseeing train encouraged by the inter- Korean cross-border railway project. First of all, how the inter-Korean cross-border railway project has developed will be discussed. After this, tile present tourism state, facilities, the state of railways and roads of North Korea, and major tourist attraction around the Kyonguisun will be shown. And then, several aspects on the agreements between the Korean National Railroad (KORAIL) and North Korean railroad system will be summarized. And, finally, the economic effect of the line including the operation schedule of the Kyonguisun sightseeing train, the demand forecast, the computation of railway fare, and profit sharing will be depicted.

This paper introduces KTX RCM(Reliability-Centered Maintenance) project which is for development of a decision making support system on the KTX maintenance framework. The functionality of the system is composed of ( i ) Fundamental Data Management, ( ⅱ ) Maintenance Goal Management, ( ⅲ ) Maintenance Program Management, ( ⅳ ) Cost-Effect Analysis, ( v ) Parameter Management. This system may improve existing maintenance Management procedure for rolling stock of KNR.

This study analysed how to divide the maintenance of infrastructure in overseas countries' rail reform from train operation to get implications for KNR's reform. Sweden and United Kingdom divided the maintenance of infrastructure from train operation. France divided the two functions just only in laws and train operator is entrusted the maintenance of infrastructure. Germany divided the two functions but not completely, so integrated indirectly through the holding company, DB AG. Japan integrated the two functions into train operator, but separated the construction of infrastructure from the train operator. From these analysis, the authors suggest to make clear the goals of rail reform to assess the success or failure of dividing the two functions directly or indirectly.

1899년 9월 18일 경인선 철도가 개통된 이래 우리철도는 100년이 넘는 역사를 가지고 있다. 1970년대 경부선 최고속도를 140km/h로 향상시킨데 이어 현재 우리나라는 건국이래 최대규모의 사회기반시설인 경부고속전철 사업을 추진중이며, 2004년에 300km/h급 고속철도 서비스가 개시될 예정으로 경부축의 상대적 거리는 더욱 가까워지면서 발전이 촉진되지만, 타 지역의 개발은 상대적으로 지체됨에 따라 국토의 편중개발로 인한 지역적 불만을 초래하게 될 것으로 예상된다.(중략)

This parer studies the efficiency of the logistics policy which can be secured for the international competitiveness in Korea. In addition, we examine the present problems of logistics policy and propose the direction of the policy in the future. In conclusion, the logistics policy in Korea leave much to be desired in the point of centralization, specialization, and efficiency. We will have to improve these points in priority.

A study on the trend of the rail transportation in view of the change of Korea public transportationThe traffic policy of a city in Korea has brought to many traffic problems by putting emphasis on the only side of mobility in the past that the personal transportation was put first in importance more than the public transportation. As the result of this policy, in the process that the traffic policy of large cities in Korea changes into accessibility, it is shown for re-lighting up the development of the public transportation to be going to be able to get many suggestions in searching for the desirable developing direction of the new means of transportation that will arrive at Korea in the future. Especially, compared with the policy of U.S.A. on the traffic plan that has concentrated on the road and the vehicle, and that of Europe that has put first in the walking and the public transportation system, it is considered as an important thing that the lesson is given to us about what is important for the desirable city development. Transportation can be divided into four; a railroad transportation. a road transportation, a marine transportation, and an aerial transportation.

Now operating of many urban railway lines are currently in progress in tile Seoul, but the inadequate consideration of links between different lines could create inconvenience as the public transport. This paper is studied about the connection design of urban-railway service convinced for other metropolis railways forms and propose the base pilot plan of the railway network linking system in Seoul Metropolis.

The KTX, first Korean Highspeed train from Seoul to Busan, is scheduled to begin its passenger service in 2004, with improvement of existing railroad between Daegu and Busan and Honam region. This paper aims to suggest the best train operation plan and detailed diagram pattern so that the KTX could work effectively as much as possible. I suggest for instance, connecting direct train and local train, hub stations plan, multi-destination train, and improvement of fare system.

The TGV has been developed in a competition with the domestic air transport. But recently, with congestion, do-regulation of air transport and with the increase of number of cities served by the TGV, operators of rail and air transport are looking for a complementarity between the two modes. In this paper, we'll analyse the background and development of high-speed rail-air links in France for a development plan of high speed transportation network in a national level in Korea.

This primary study has some bounds md limits owing to the descriptive reviews but not detailed analyses. However, 1 tried to do the comparative analyses and case studies about location and size of rail station for future efficient use of spatial structure. Therefore, I reviewed the location of railway station and some design standards of railway station facilities by type (high speed rail, conventional rail and urban rail), and also, suggested future direction for rail station as the core of city development relating with urban structures and human settlement system reformation.

There are two methodologies to increase transport capacity of railway. The one is to invest railroad equipment or vehicles, and the other to improve operation efficiency through operation optimization. All of these is intended to increase transport capacity by improving line capacity. So far, we treat line capacity as the criteria for evaluating investment alternatives or for restricting train frequencies, and this criteria is calculated statical and experimental numerical formula. But, line capacity has special attribute that change dynamically according to operational condition, so there is a need of new line capacity estimation system. The Purpose of this paper is to present a new line capacity estimation system based on the probability simulation and its applications.

This paper is to investigate adoptability of the genetic algorithm to the railway traffic conflict resolution problem. We categorize the problem in two cases, one is the specific-boundary case and the other is not. GA is may be used in the first case, but not for second case. For a sample problem, an GA is designed, and the GA is being compared with Ho's.

Recently, in the metro railways, researches on the skip-stop operation and development of the double deck train-set are active, which is to improve the service quality through reducing the passenger travel time and suppling seating service. Constructing new line or reforming the existent line needs huge amount of budget. Therefore, previous to start these large scale projects, scrutiny on benefit improvement, cost reduction and those optimal trade-off is indispensable. In this paper, a quantitative analysis to determine the optimal train service patterns and train-sets necessary is proposed, under the skip-stop operation condition in the metro railways. The analysis models are formulated in mathematical programming model, and tested validity using the LINGO 7.0.

The purpose of this article is to depict the organizational effectiveness of "A" Subway Corporation based on the cognitive response of employees(subway drivers). To attain this purpose, several aspects of current personnel aid organization management system and organizational culture are surveyed through questionaire and analyzed by SPSS. The questionaire includes two parts of items. First, it includes items on personnel-related factors such as evaluation system job, wage, role, leadership and job satisfaction. Second, it includes items on organizational culture model suggested by Rousseau. The major findings are : 1) In general the cognitive response of driven concerning personnel-related aspects is to a certain degree negative. 2) The cognitive response of drivers concerning culture-related aspects is awfully negative. 3) Job satisfaction of drivers is highly related to role and leadership factors in terms of personnel-related aspects, on the one hard, and to achievement factor in terms of culture, on the other hand.

This paper studies the outcome of the privitization policy which have been proceed for the railway reform in Japan. In addition, we examine the current problems of privitization policy and propose the direction of the policy in the future. In conclusion the privitization policy in Japan railway leave much to be desired in the point of competition, deregulation. debt and employment. We will have to examine these points. And We will consider the merits and demerits of Japan' case in Korean railway privitization.

The improvement of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, following the June 2000 Summit, has opened up the possibility of reconstructing the railway between the North and the South. The interconnection of the railway systems would allow cargo transportation from the south of the Korean Peninsula to Russia, China and Europe. This could open up a faster and more economical cargo transportation route than the all-water route.(omitted)

At the present time, civil structure based of aseismatic design in the Korea began about 1997. However, most of the railway bridge constructed with block and block in the past can easily deteriorate with time due to the increase of repeated traffic loading, increase of train speed, etc. In this study, soil properties of the substructure of railway bridge with block and block was investigated through the SASW(spectral Analysis or Surface Waves) and RCTC test in the field and laboratories. Also, stabilization of liquefaction after occurred earthquake was investigated through the Seed & Idress method use of N value and Andrus and Stoke method use of S-Wave velocity.

There are many railway structures which were designed without conidering aseismic capacity. In special, masonry structures constructed long time ago should be reviewed about their resistance to earthquake. In this paper, technique to evaluate the capacity of masonry railway bridge is tried to develop by means of FEM analysis. In general FEM analysis program, 3-D solid element is used for masonry structures and response spectrum analysis procedure is tried. In addition, 3-D solid element has material properties equivalent to mortar-brick composite body. Used FEM program is ABAQUS-CAE.

In locations where the cost or concrete is relatively high, or in situations where the weight or concrete members is to be kept to a minimum, it may be economical to use hollow reinforced concrete vertical members. Hollow reinforced concrete columns with low axial load, moderate longitudinal steel percentage, and a reasonably thick wall were found to perform in a ductile manner at the flexural strength, similar to solid columns. However, hollow reinforced concrete columns with high axial load, high longitudinal steel percentage, and a thin wall were found to behave in a brittle manner at the flexural strength, since the neutral axis is forced to occur away from the inside face of the tube towards the section centroid and, as a result, crushing of concrete occurs near the unconfined inside face of the section. If, however, a steel tube is placed near the inside face of a circular hollow column, the column can be expected not to fail in a brittle manner by disintegration of the concrete in the compression zone. Design recommendation and example by moment-curvature analysis program for curvature ductility are presented. Theoretical moment-curvature analysis for reinforced concrete columns, indicating the available flexural strength and ductility, can be conducted providing the stress-strain relation for the concrete and steel are known. In this paper, a unified stress-stain model for confined concrete by Mander is developed for members with circular sections.

영동선 이설사업 일환으로 영동선 동백산역(강원도 태백시 연화동)과 도계역(삼척시 도계읍)간의 본 터널은 총 연장 16.4km인 장대터널로서 전북 완주 전라선 슬치터널(6.12km)보다 10km 이상 길고, 정선 고한과 태백 추전을 잇는 4.5km의 정암터널의 3배가 넘는다. 특히 이 터널은 구간의 높이 차(약 3백80m)를 극복하기 위해 Loop형태로 설계되었고, 열차의 안정성, 구난대피, 환기측면에서 단선병렬 터널로 설계되었다. 또한 불량한 선형과 노후된 터널구조물로 인한 열차 안전운행 저해요인을 해소하기 위해 천공발파공법을 굴착공법으로 채택하였다. 영동터널의 굴착골법은 다음과 같은 세밀한 위험도 분석기법을 통하여 결정되었다. 본 논문에서는 실드 TBM과 같은 형태의 기계화 굴착공법과 천공 및 발파에 의한 굴착공법에 따른 공사중 특정의 위험도를 분석하였다. 공사 민감도 및 현장 경험등의 기타 중요 인자를 고려한 위험도 분석결과에 따라 본 현장여건을 고려하면 천공 및 발파공법이 영동선 터널의 굴착공법으로 가장 적합하다고 제안되었다.

The actual buckling of the railroad track structure is suspected to be a complex interaction between the vertical, lateral and torsional modes. To make the analysis tractable, however, most studies restrict themselves to either the vertical or the horizontal plane. Based on a comprehensive and realistic three-dimensional track model developed in the previous study, three dimensional buckling analysis of CWR track subjected to temperature load was performed. Using the study on buckling temperature and mode, sensitivity of track components such as tie spacing, ballast resistance, stiffness of pad-fastening system and rail size were investigated.

철도가 국내에 도입된 지 어느덧 100년이라는 세월이 흘렀다. 1906년에 처음으로 항공기가 시범비행을 한 이후, 거의 같은 기간 동안 항공기술은 실로 놀라운 수준에 도달하고 있는 반면 철도의 발전은 너무 미흡한 상태에 있다. 물론 여러 가지 대내외적인 여건 때문에 철도 발전이 여의치 않았지만 이제는 국내 고속철도의 도입, 엄청난 물류비 상승, 대륙철도 개통의 필요성 등 제 2의 철도르네상스라 할 수 있는 호기를 충분히 이용해서 그 동안 정체되었던 철도기술을 충분히 발전시켜야 할 것이다.(중략)

A new German high speed railway slab track was investigated. The construction objective was to provide a durable and maintenance free track system consisting of precast concretepanels of consistently high quality and highest achievable accuracy in track geometry. The System on the basis of precast panels similar to the slab track system constructed on the line Dachau- Karlsfeld in 1997.

Now, Korea National Railroad is planning many ways to increase the maximum operating speed of train up to 200km/h by 2010. Among those ways, connecting conventional line with the KTX is the strongest alternative. Mostly, conventional lines are consisting of both KS50N and KS6O rail. However, the excessive abrasion might be occurred between wheel and rail when the KTX designed to operate on UIC60 is operating on the conventional line. On this study, new standard of 60kg-class rail considered suitability for both KTX and wheel used in conventional line is presented. It seems to be an effective solution for increasing maintenance costs expected when commercial speed of conventional line is increasing.

The transition between bridge or tunnel and plain track has different rail pressure and distributed stress on formation. This paper shows distribution of rail pressure on transition at which spring stiffness are changed. By this study, it is revealed that the changing into relatively high stiffness causes increased rail pressure visibly and draw up dynamic track force. A medium stiffness structure and reinforced rail could be effective for reducing track force on the transition.

In this study, a numerical method which assesses running stability of freight car loading 300m CWR and structural safety of conventional railway track when passing over curves and steel girder bridges is presented. Optimal speed of the freight car is suggest on the basis of numerical reviews for stability of derailment of the freight car and structural safety of track at weak points of the conventional line.

This research suggests the assessment method of the additional lateral force caused bending moment of CWR when a freight car loading it is passing over turnout system or curves. The characteristics of lateral lone are analyzed by calculating the lateral pressure acting on the rails of conventional railway.

The transition between bridge and earthwork often causes the problems of maintenance. The damages of the track on the transition area influence running safety of train and serviceability, increase the maintenance cost. Therefore it is very important to evaluate the dynamic responses of transition and take a efficient measure. In order to evaluate the dynamic behavior of track, the field estimations are performed at the transition area of a conventional line between bridge and earthwork. And the track system on the transition area numerically analyzed to evaluate the dynamic behavior of damaged track with void sleeper. The measured values and Analysis results such as wheel contact force, rail stress, displacement acceleration and track irregularity in the transition area show the dynamic forces are severe. So it is recommended that the transition area should be improved the rigidity by reinforcing the rail.

This paper deal with optimal design of reinforced track as a track reinforcing method for transition area of track support stiffness in transition area between bridge and earthwork. When vehicle passes through transition area, dynamic properties between vehicle and track are studied by the analysis of vehicle-train interaction for the each case when reinforced tracks are used or not. furthermore, optimum decision of type and length of track are made based on the performance adapting variable parameters : support stiffness of track for bridge and earthwork, heading direction of vehicle and type and length of track.

The frost heaving pressure can be a problem for weakening of the railroadbed material. In this study, upon freezing a saturated soil in a closed-system from the top, a considerable pressure was developed. This pressure is induced as a result of a curved ice-water interface. This study was initiated to investigate the soils frost heaving expansion pressure and physical characteristics resulting from freezing and freezing-thawing cycle process. Weathered granite soils, sandy soil were used in the laboratory freezing test subjected to thermal gradients under closed-systems.

Continuous loading is applied the sample has been developed to overcome some of the problems associated with the incremental loading consolidation test. Therefore, it is able to reduce the test time and provide a well defined the curve of effective stress versus strain due to continuous stress-strain points. Also, the constant rate of strain consolidation(CRSC) test has been accepted widely as a standard method in foreign countries because of its many advantages. However, in Korea the CRSC test has not been used in engineering practice and experimentally verified. Because there is not a precise criterion of testing despite consolidation characteristics are influenced on strain rate and Pore pressure ratio. Consequently, it is difficult to apply in engineering practice. In this study, artificial neural networks are applied to the estimation of th proper strain rate and pore pressure ratio of the CRSC test. This study shows the possibility of utilizing the artificial neural networks model of estimation of the strain rate and pore pressure ratio in the CRSC test.

The objective of this study is to suggest the optimal method for reinforced earth retaining wall through the appropriate selection of reinforcing materials, development of design criteria. Thus, the efficient land utilization and securing safety in the train operation in service lines could be achieved. For this goal, a large scale shear laboratory test was carried out to evaluate the reinforced effect of earth body reinforced by attachment-type geogrid.

The heavy downpour caused by unusual weather has destroyed a railroad bed. It caused a large amount of soil loss due to soil erosion. Hence, there is necessary to rehabilitate the destructed railroad bed as quickly as possible. Application of geotextile bag can standardize the rehabilitation process. Geotextile bag method can be more stable, faster, and more economical. In this study, the stress to geotextile bag was estimated to select the appropriate geotextile material. Geotechnical characteristics of geotextile were also determined.

Sand Compaction Pile (SCP) method, which uses sand material, is frequently used in Korea. However, the use of sand for SCP faces environmental and economical problems with the shortage of its resources. Therefore, it is necessary to substitute other materials for compaction piles. One of the alternatives is using gravel in lieu of sand. Granular Pile, constituted with sand and crushed-stone, is one of the methods to improve soft clay and loose sandy ground. In this study, modeled pile load tests are performed in test cell. The observations are made on the consolidation and the variation of water table of three different grounds, original, sand pile installed, and granular pile installed ground. In addition, engineering characteristics such as bearing capacity, settlement and drainage are investigated. The test results show that Gravel Compaction Pile (GCP) is more efficient for increasing bearing capacity and reducing settlement than SCP and had similar pore water pressure dissipation to sand. Therefore, the results show that GCP can be a good substitution for SCP.

In this research problems of recent design methods and their improvement for SIP in domestic areas were studied by using the characteristics of load-settlement curves and bearing capacity from field loading tests. Elastic and plastic settlement for total settlement in each loading step conducted domestic areas had a tendency. From these tendency and bearing capacity determined by loading tests we can ascertain that empirical chart can be assistant tool in SIP design. It showes that SIP design using N-value in domestic area with soil condition of grarute type results in very conservative bearing capacity, to be opposed in soil with unprofitable geological condition the design can be insecure. Also, we can ascertain that Meyerhof's bearing capacity used modified N-value on tip part of pile is more applicable than recent design method where tip bearing capacity is 20NAp N-value limited to 50. These results show that modified design method can he more economic than before because of using pile's bearing capacity to tolerable load of pile material.

A first evaluation of the possibilities of high speed trains in conventional railway in Korea have been investigated. The radius of curvature was considered the major problem with high-speed trains in Korea. If KNR(Korea National railway) likes to increase the speed, is then whether KNR shall construct straigthen the track or develop a train that can reduce travel time in curves The research concerns structural design of train car-body is to reduce heavy stress concentration. Using 3D solid modeling, Finite Element analysis and shape optimization combined with powerful postprocessing, graphical display and animation to achieve complete and accurate design and performance will be carried out further project Main purpose of this project is to provide korean tilting train car body's conceptional design. Based on first year research results, the design of car-body will be performed by train manufacture.

Tilting train is the best solution to provide faster passenger service on conventional railway lines without too costly modification of infrastructure. Kinematic envelope gauging is very important when applying tilting trains % conventional railways with limited clearance. Due to tilting motion, the kinematic envelope of tilting train is larger than that of non-tilting train. This study was done to estimate the maximum dimension of tilting train being suitable for Korean conventional lines. In this study the two worst cases of tilting train movement was assumed and related suspension displacements, geometrical overthrow of train on une, wear of wheel & rail were combined to determine kinematic envelope.

This report was studied about system design of tilting car for speed up for conventional railroad of KNR. The maximum operating speed of Kyun-Pu line was recorded a 140km/h by saemaul train at 1985 and the average speed its is 107km/h now. The chungang line, janghang line and honam line of KNR had rebuilt to the electrified line for operation of tilting train. This report was described about the operation status of advanced countries, the operation situation of trains of KNR, system design for operation and speed up by EMU tilting train on the conventional railroad in the future.

To estimate the reliability of the standard electric multiple unit developed by Korea Railroad Research Institute, the vehicle system composed of 4 cars is divided into 14 subsystems. The 14 subsystems are connected in series. For each subsystem except for car body and bogie, failure rate is evaluated by an optimal failure model used in reliability engineering. For car body and bogie probabilistic structural integrity analysis is carried out. The distribution of failure rate of each part and system is assumed to be exponential. The estimated MTBF of the vehicle satisfies the planned MTBF.

This paper describes the result of endurance test on the Sangju test track. The purpose of the test is to prove the endurance of the Korean EMU for the commercial operation. Test conditions are more severe than actual operation on the commercial line. But endurance test come to an end well without severe problem. Hereafter, Korean EMU will be applied the quality certification of railroad supplies as a testing vehicle and their components will be applied in a new line.

This paper proposes the Systematic Design Methodology of the Korean High Speed Train. High Speed Train do not operate in isolation and are part of a rail system which is influenced through input and output effects from the environment and from the neighbouring system. To fulfil its overall desired function, such input and output relationships between the systems must be considered in the system boundary conditions. Therefore, the overall interrelationship of all these effects has to be carefully considered during the design process. Here proposed methodology may provide a guide line and criteria for the systematic problem solving method of that highly complex High Speed Train System.

Tilting system allow the train to pass curve at higher speed without affecting passenger comfort. As the tilting trains offer the optimum means of providing faster and more comportable rail service with minimum of environmental disturbance and capital investment, more than 14 countries have now adopted or are about to adopt tilting train technology. The Korean National Railroad is also planing to apply faster tilting train to the areas where the High speed rail service are not provided. This paper shows the concept design of Bogie and Tilting system for 180 km/h Express tilting train for Korean conventional line, which was done as a part of the KNR's R&D project.

The coldproofness should be studied in order to operate the freight car by connecting the South and North Korea Railway. Actually, there is no standard for coldproofness in South Korea Railway, The standard for coldproofness of the Russian Railway, the Chiness Railway and the North Korea Railway was studied. From the analysis of these standards, the standard of coldproofness was proposed for the freight vehicle connecting the South and North Korean Railway.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept design and the structural strength of the double-deck rolling stock vehicle. Aluminum is very useful material for the carbody structure due to its characteristic of light weight. Large alumillum extrusion profiles(panels) have toe of merits such as easy production of complicated shapes, reduction of welding and cutting lines, and cutting down the labor cost. AED type is being applied to the standard EMUs and the EMUs Kwangju subway in Korea. Light material recommended the double-deck rolling stock vehicle because the center of gravity of the train is higher and its weight is heavier than those of the normal vehicle. So we applied the technology of the large aluminum extrusion profiles(panels) to the double-deck vehicle. We performed the structural strength analysis and examined its safety.

오늘날 차량의 경량화를 위해서 알루미늄 차체를 사용하는 것은 필수적인 결정처럼 되어버렸다. 차체에 사용되는 알루미늄 압출재의 형상은 아주 다양하게 제작이 가능하다. 그러나, 다양한 형상이 가능한 만큼 설계 엔지니어에게는 결정하기 어려운 문제가 되어버린다. 주어진 하중조건하에서 최적의 형상을 설계하는 방법을 찾는 것은 이제 알루미늄 차체의 사용이 보편화되어가는 시점에 매우 중요한 일이 된 것이다. 본 논문에서는 형상최적설계란 도구를 사용하여 압출재 형상을 설계하는 방법에 대한 가능성을 살펴보고자 한다. 몇 개의 간단한 예제를 통하여 가능성을 점검하였고, 분석을 통하여 몇가지 결론에 도달하였다.

Stainless rolling stocks are usually fabricated by spot welding process without painting. Indentation on the surface of the car body after spot welding injures the beauty of the stainless rolling stocks. In this study, electrode tips to reduce the indentation are developed and applied to the actual spot welding works. The developed tips are composed of head, nut hole far cooling water, body and resistance material. They provide large surface contact area with the base materials during spot welding and enhance the current density by necking. Experimental results using the developed tips show that small indentation and sufficient tensile shear strength is produced due to large contact area and enhanced current density.

In this paper, an engineering database management system(EDMS) has been developed to support the system engineering for design of the high speed titling train to be put into the conventional lines. The developed system can be operated on client-server or web circumstances. To accomplish the concurrent engineering in design of the rolling stocks, this system has been fully equipped with a powerful viewer and a postprocessor for 3D CAD data or FE results. The system was tested using the engineering data produced during carrying out the G7 project to design KHST(Korean High Speed Train) in a crashworthy viewpoint. Through this example, it is shown that the system should be powerfully applied to improving the performance of the system engineering.

The transmission system of high speed train serve in the severe condition compared with those of other trains, namely, they have to transmit high power to run with high speed and they have to make maximum use of the limited space. To clarify the strength of gear for Korea High-Speed Train, a bending fatigue test of gear specimen is performed and compare with actual gear's. From this result, specimen test is useful to infer S-N curve and endurance limit of actual gear that much time and expense are consumed.

In this study, we have analyzed the optimum control of wheel for coach car in maintenance process to grasp the problem relating to this coach's wheel exchanged. So, these problems brought about decrement maintenance cost. This study were deliberated to solve problems concerning maintenance process of wheel exchanged and wheel specification in rolling stock workshops of KNR. Here, we describe some results.

The strength evaluation of a wheel is becoming very important due to the high speed of railway system and the reduction of wheel weight. Therefore, in this study, the influence of thermal stress at tread breaking in Korean High Speed Train wheel was investigated using FEM. During FEM analysis, the mechanical load or wheel-rail contract load and braking load were considered. When 300% of the block force was applied, the maximum von Mises stress of 61.0 ㎫ was found at the outside plate around 400mm far away from the wheel center.

This paper describes the result of wearing test on the Sangju test track. The purpose of the test is to evaluate an amount of wearing for EMU's panto shoes. Panto shoes are affected in wearing by environment of owing to expose the vehicle. Especially, the rainy season, they are found easy to get an increase in wearing of panto shoes. To evaluate an amount of wearing, we ca]lied out running test for 5 months under the ground line conditions.

This study was started to develop maintenance technology for wheel tread suitable domestic railway environment. As a pre-study to develop optima] wheel tread, we analyzed the wear characteristics of wheel tread that is being applied to railway rolling-stock in KNR. To analyze wheel wear characteristics. we have conducted the simulation and experiment for passenger rolling-stock and obtained useful datum. Here, we describe some results.

Train driving should be satisfied to run fixed distance within given time, and it is desirable to minimize energy consumption. Minimizing energy consumption depends on the train operation modes by driver or automatic operation. In this article, an optimal operation to minimize energy consumption by changing modes of train operation by a driver is investigated. First, powering model, braking model and consumed energy calculation model are introduced by using Matlab software. The accuracy of the model established by simulation is compared with the real experimental data, which is obtained from an authorized institution. Second, several simulations under a variety of operations in the ideal track are executed, and then the optimal pattern of train driving is found.

The development of railway vehicle and bogie involves the proper selection of design parameters not only to achieve high speed of the train but also to reduce the vibration. In this study, an analytical model of a high speed freight car is developed to find the critical speed. The high speed freight car can generate the snake motion of the lateral, rolling and yawing motion of the car body and the bogie. The numerical analysis for the equation motions with 17 degrees of freedom showed the running stability and the critical speed due to the snake motion. Also the vibration modes of the high speed freight car was calculated using ADAMS RAIL software, which showed that the critical speed have the yawing modes of the car body and the bogie.

Honeycomb structures have advantages in weight reduction with stiffness increment. As far as noise is concerned, however a light aluminum structure, instead of a steel frame, should have an equivalent mass density in order to maintain sound insulation performance. In this paper, an evaluation of a material effect on noise has been examined.

High speed railroad noise is one of the main causes of environmental impact. An estimate of the relevant noise levels is usually required in order to evaluate the noise barrier and the anti-noise trailer. This paper introduce the test procedure and the estimate for HST noise. The aim of this is to measure, by means of a test, the level of acoustic pressure present during the passing of a KTX(Korea Train Express), in order to satisfy the contractual requirements and the noise criteria. A number of measurements are carried out in order to estimate noise impact by HST along test track.

The railway signal ing system consists of several vital computerized equipments. Now the project for development of signal ing system for the next-general ion high-speed train is progressed according to the consortium. The developing signal ing system by this project, kTCS(Korean Train Control System), is composed of kTCS-CTC, kTCS-IXL, kTCS-ATC and etc. The KTCS signaling has to be operated as a integrated system by interface between each signaling. To achieve these, communicat ion protocols between each signal ing have to be designed and message codes are defined. In this paper the configuration of integrated kTCS system and designed communication protocol is presented.

In this paper, it was proposed that hazard analysis and risk assessment about railway signal systems using FTA(Fault Tree Analysis) and ETA(Event Tree Analysis) one of the reliability analysis methods executed and output value based on the hazard baseline of CENELEC and EC 61508 producted, and also the SIL(Safety Integrity Level)/THR(Tolerable Hazard Rate) about the system set. On the basis of this principle, more systematic standardizations are required to operate railway system and in the future, we hope that safety and reliability of signal equipment will be better improved.

In these days, as the scale of our technology becomes larger and more highly advanced, the magnitude of an accident tends to be large. For this reason, in some systems whose accident may cause a large-scale and long-term catastrophe, a preliminary and quantitative safety assessment has become required before its construction. A method developed for this requirement is risk assessment. In this study, we focused on the methodology of probabilistic risk assessment, which has been developed mainly in the field of nuclear power industry, and considered the process to adopt this method to railway system in order to establish a scientific and comprehensive way of safety assessment.

As the European Union has strengthened and computerized signalling systems have been widely used, the European common standards for the safety of railway signalling systems such as EN 50126, EN 50128, ENV 50129, EN 50159 began to be published from 1996 in CENELEC. At that time, a safety guideline, 'Safety Guidelines for Computerized Train Control and Protection Systems' was published in Japan. The Korean National Railroad also published a safety recommendation for the train control systems with taking into account the Korean railway conditions. Now the preparations for IEC/TC9 Standards are well underway and these standards correspond to CENELEC Standards referred above. These movements and activities are to cope with many technical and operational changes and to reflect the globalization trend of railway sectors along with the computerization of signalling devices. In this connection, this paper studies the globaliztion trend in the safety standards for railway signalling systems and discusses the counterplans for the trend.

This study presents the core contents and superiority of localized Point-Machine which Alstom transferred its technology to Samsung SDS for High Speed Rail, developed based on existing MJ8l Point-Machine that is used in France and other countries. The scope of study includes introducing performance improvement of Localized MJ8l and conducting comparative analysis between Localized MJ8l and french products as well as NS type Point-Machine that has been deployed in the existing rail link. Moreover, the general architecture, features and test run results of Localized MJ8l are described.

Section insulators are indispensible devices for the electric railways, which divide electrical connections between the trolley lines without losing mechanical connections, and this means that they should have both good electrical insulation performance and mechanical performance for pantograph interaction. This paper reviews some technical aspects of the several type section insulators and makes analysis of difficulties during operation. The closed type section insulators are proposed for newly electrified railways, because they have good mechanical and electrical performances for high speed trains up to 200[km/H]. Technical specifications of closed-type section insulators based on survey of the advanced technologies are provided, and also the neutral section configuration method which might be the best solution for newly electrified railways in Korea of 200km/H speed.

In this study, the relation between the mtation which are usually caused by the creep of the contact wire, the bar geometry and the forces(wire tensions) for the triangle-shaped distribution bar and straight-shaped one in dependent tensioning device system is reviewed. According to the result a rotation of distribution bar in triangle-shaped one modifies the distribution of the tensions between the three wires hooked in a distribution bar. On the contrary, a rotation on the straight-shaped one leads to no tension distribution change. Therefore, to use the straight-shaped distribution bar instead of triangle-shaped one is recommended. In addition, the design contents of the distribution bar which will be used in electrification of Gyeongbu line are described in this paper.

While performing the advisory services of the electrification of conventional lines for KTX(Korea High Speed Train), we faced the speed-up problem of catenary system for the existing narrow tunnel. To solve this problem, the new system, to be named "Oblique encumbrance tunnel catenary", was developed. This system is mainly characterized by a simple catenary type, a dual bracket, a oblique encumbrance, a small system height and the same bracket used for the radial tension load and compression one. In this paper, the basic concepts, overall system configuration and main points considered in a design phase for the ′oblique encumbrance tunnel catenary′ are described. Moreover, the detail design criteria and other contents like manufacturing pilot products and verifying the performance through a factory and site test are added.

According as railway signalling equipments are computerized recently, necessity of communication protocol for interface between these equipments is increasing, Therefore the research about communication protocol structure that is need according to computerization trend of these signalling goes, especially communication protocol structure for interface between LDTS(Local Data Transmission System) and EIS(Electronic Interlocking System). Analyzed existent protocols that is applied currently for interfaces between above two signalling for this research and also technology analysis of internal/external similar protocols and operator and maker's requirement. With these study finding plain in this paper, explained summary of communication protocol structure for interface between LDTS and EIS.

In this Paper, it has a proposal of the RFID(RFID : Radio Frequency Identification) system for high-speed recognition between the tag attached a mobile object moving high-speed and the static reader. It used 13.56MHz frequency at ISM band, and designed a reader in order to recognize a mobile object moving high-speed. It will be expected that RFID system enables a smooth railway signal control applying in railway system through the cyclic loop antenna.

This paper show serial communication method in order to design how to interface between fault tolerant systems with redundancy. Problem has been in the method that fault tolerant system had switched of serial data with common switching device. This problem degrade reliability in itself and total system which is interfaced with that serial communication system. So Arbitration module of serial communication which is suggested in this paper can improve the reliability using voter algorithm which fault is detected passively.

This paper show communication network scheme problem for the railway is solved which were electrical noise and line break in wayside using rerouting communication line, Considering the availability and the maintainability based on the reliability in design of communication networks. At first, Self-Healing Ring algorithm is suggested in that solution which is satisfied with above requirements. And also, in the advanced type, Dual Master scheme is suggested that the problem which is occurred in line break of both main and sub line at the same time can be solved using DMSHR(Dual Master Self Healing Ring). Therefore total reliability in railway system is going to be advanced using DMSHR scheme.

Railroad has been one of major public transportations with the advantages of safety and schedule accuracy. However, the sustainable development will be the first principle in order to save the earth environment in the future, and the only transportation that satisfies it can continuously survive. Transportation has caused air pollution severely. Thus, the most environment-friendly means of transport should be chosen to maintain clean environment in the 21st century. Railroad is currently the best choice to fulfill the mission. But, the overall railroad technologies should be developed in consideration of clean environment to be a future leading transportation.

Recently, interest in hygiene has been arouse in the health care field. Consequently, Filters with antibacterial agent applied to improve air quality by sterilizing bacteria, fungi, etc. We actually installed antibacterial air filter containing 2.5wt%Ag zeolite on the air intake route to air-conditioner in passenger cu, and evaluated filter's performance on antibacterial effect. By the microbe liquid spattering method, we found that the antibacterial air filter has notably sufficient antibacterial efficiency against standard strains and wild type strains. Antibacterial effect was observed at whole area of filter media by zone of inhibition test. The evaluation of microbe quantity was conducted through mixing dilution plate culture method. In comparison with ordinary filter, the amount of germs attached on antibacterial air filters was larger. The amount of germs attached on ordinary filters was very small since ordinary filters contained less dust. In comparison in antibacterial air filter with thickness, the amount of germs attached on 9mm filter was smaller than that of on 6mm filter. i.e. thicker filter, superior efficiency.

Subway has been used one of major public transportations because of overpopulation and heavy traffic problems in the metropolitan areas. In this study, continuous date of PM-10(particles with aerodynamic diameter < 10
$\mu\textrm{m}$ ) and heavy metal concentration measurements for autumn and winter period were analysed. These measurements have been carried out at the outdoor, concourse, platform, tunnel. The study results showed that the average seasonal concentration of PM-10 particles were 181.01$\mu\textrm{g}$ /㎥ in autumn and 129.03$\mu\textrm{g}$ /㎥ in winter, respectively. The concentration of Fe, Cu showed the largest peak concentrations during the respective season. -
As the air pollution caused by diesel vehicles goes worse, so non-road vehicles exhaust gas standards are more strict in an foreign countries. There is growing evidence that diesel vehicles could play the important role in determining health effects. Most of the particle number emitted by diesel engines is in the nanopaticle range, D
$\_$ p/ < 50nm, while most of the mass is in the accumulation mode, 50nm < D$\_$ p/ < 1000nm range. The aim of this work was to investigate pollutants in the exhaust of railroad diesel rolling stock under load tests. -
In this study we reported the Smoke Density test method of interior panel of railroad passenger car and investigated the specific smoke density(Ds) by NBS smoke chamber to the variance of some test conditions. First we compared the result of Ds from ISO 5659-2 with that from ASTM E662 for same phenol FRP Secondary studied the Ds value to the variance of resin type and to the variance of specimen shape.

Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs) contribute to the formation of ozone and PAN which are injurious to health through complex photochemical reactions. Growing consumption of fossil fuels results in significant emission of VOCs and other air pollutants into the atmosphere. In this study, Ambient an grab samples of VOCs were collected at the platform and the concourse of six stations in the subway from February 21th to 28th. Among the total contents, Toluene (118.74 ppm) showed the highest concentration in the Indukwon station platform while other contents were measured low concentrations. Also, the platform concentrations were higher than the concourse concentrations through the whole contents.

We have made known the study of shape development of interference device for vehicle noise control. It's primary object greatly attenuate the noise due to transport vehicle by small products installed on the noise barrier edge. Also, it is able to improve the insertion loss of a noise barrier without increasing the height of noise barrier. The present time, we set up a newly manufactured products on the noise barrier edge and testify to it's the performance use of an experiment and evaluation for the reduction of railway noise. In this paper the frequency characteristic of interference device of noise barriers with attached newly developed products in terms of shape, absorptive material and split panel, are examined using field test around of railroad.

Recently, in various industrial field standardization and performance improvement are actively on going. Noise barrier is generally used to reduce railway noise. But the effectiveness of its use is low because of low level of technology development. In this basic study, test item and its specification are suggested for standardization of railway noise barrier.

Contact wires are made by metallic materials and exposured at atmosphere. We have investigated mechanical properties and the present condition of air pollution as to the messenger wires and ACSR wires of these contact wires. Mechanical properties between new contact wires and used, the used one's tensile strength and elongations was decreased by effect from corrosion. We observed a fatigue properties which was investigated by fatigue test because contact wires were affected with amplitude vibration everytime the train passed through the railways. In the evaluation of fatigue test, it was also shown that fatigue life of the used wires was decreased 50 ∼ 60% compared with that of new ones in average by effect from corrosion.

This study reviews several of the procedures that have been used to predict ground-born vibration. The vibration responses are measured at three sites that have different soil qualities. The measured vibration levels are compared with the predicted results by previously used vibration level prediction models. In this study a numerical method, which is based on explicit differential method, is used to compensate tot existing prediction models. Although numerically computed results are not quantitatively in good agreement with the measured results, the trends are comparable in the sense that vibration level does not decrease monotonically with distance. Also, The site with the deepest tunnel gives the highest vibration level.

Sound absorbing materials are applied to the exposed surfaces of curved subway tunnel for the reduction of curving noise level. Before the treatment, acoustical engineering simulation is performed to predict the noise level reduction for different kinds and amounts of absorbing material. The principle of geometrical acoustics is utilized to Peform the simulation efficiently and accurately. The noise levels of the inside and outside of running car body are measured to find the noise level reduction. The average noise level reduction of 8 ㏈ has been attained. It has been shown that the simulated results are comparable to the measured ones.

This paper suggests measures for improving such systems by reviewing current eligibility criteria for the construction of urban rail transit including subway and LRT in Korea.

본 연구는 합성교량의 경우 브라켓이나 가로보에 사용되고 비합성교량의 경우 연결재로 사용되는 스랩앵커를 Push-Out Test를 하여 실험으로 얻은 특성을 실제 소수주형모델에 적용하여 FEM해석을 통하여 거동특성을 파악 하고자 한다. 일반적으로 전단연결재 실험의 경우 콘크리트 슬래브와 강재 주형 사이에 직접 길이 방향 전단력을 작용시킬 수 있을 뿐 아니라 실험의 편리함 때문에 주로 Push-out 실험이 많이 이용되고 있다. 본 실험에서는 BS-5400에 제시된 바에 근거하여 실험체를 제작하였다. 이 실험을 통하여 탄성구간에서의 강성(k) 값을 알아내어 3D FEM 해석에 적용한다. 이때 콘크리트 바닥판과 강재와의 연결을 축 방향으로는 특정한 강성 값을 넣을 수 있는 Joint Element를 사용하여 연결시키고, 1경간 단순지지와 2경간 연속교에 대하여 연구를 수행하는데, 1경간 단순지지의 경우에는 Joint Element에 여러 강성 값과 실험을 통해 얻은 강성 값을 적용하여 합성거동을 파악하고 강성 값에 따른 합성정도를 규명하고자 한다. 또한 2경간 연속교에서는 슬랩앵커의 강성 값을 적용하여 많이 문제시되고 있는 내부지점부에 슬랩앵커를 사용하였을 때 슬래브의 인장응력이 어떤 변화양상을 나타내는지 파악 하고자한다.

국내 철도사업은 1899년 경인선이 개통된 이래 1970년대까지 지역 간 수송수단으로써 여객은 물론 산업물자 수송 등을 통해 국가 경제 발전의 초석이 되었으나, 1970년대 이후 고속도로의 투자와 함께 자동차 대중화 시대를 맞이하면서 철도는 도로교통에 지배적 위치를 내어 주게 되었으며 계속되는 투자부족과 수송시장의 변화에 대처하기 어려운 철도운영체계로 인해 서비스 수준 저하, 수요감소, 수입 감소로 이어지면서 경영적자를 야기하고, 이러한 재정적 어려움은 재투자를 어렵게 하는 등의 구조적 악순환이 반복되고 있다.(중략)
